Why is there a prestige cap?
I don’t see how this would hurt anything other than giving the heavy hour players an endless push to see how high they can get their main to show off. Feels kind of bad hitting p100 and no future growth after that after putting more blood points into them.

Because they only designed 100 prestige icons.
Seriously, it's all arbitrary, why does it matter? Why did you rush to P100 anyway if not for the P100 badge to show off in every lobby?
That's the idea. They don't want players pressured to get to P100, P9 IS fundamentally the last prestige, anything above that is just extra levels anyway.
I think they could give some cosmetics for P100 like similar skin to old legacy skins. That would not be even hard to make but it would be nice reward.
Bring other character to P100 you can have more than just one.
Some people like to focus on solely their main.
Goals in video games matter. It gives people goals.
I can only assume it's because they didn't feel like making portrait art for more than 100 levels.

I will say it's absolutely hilarious that both of us independently arrived at BHVR laziness.
I wasn't necessarily meaning it like that. They may want to, just other priorities first.
