if the totem is in a dead zone then it’s not going to get much value is it… but hey just laugh because I thought that video was funny, every one needs to lighten up

A dead zone is precisely where they get the most guaranteed value out of it. The killer either has to sink a comparatively huge amount of time to go there and snuff it, or simply not have pressure via injuring survivors for the entire game. It's a lose-lose situation.

I find the "just do bones" meme disingenuous for this circumstance. It's disrespectful and emblematic of how rude this game's playerbase is. It's so easy to be nice to one another, but people playing this game rarely choose to be.

  • @Sabby said:

Just a comment the fact someone said follow the footsteps I have 300$ headphones, These and the volume up, I don't hear footsteps with out addon to increase the volume then only thing I hear usually is a totem being touched and the fact is what if you are hearing impaired and or your house is noisy? I mean come on?

Even if you aren't hearing impaired, footsteps are incredibly inconsistent. Sometimes the audio occlusion works properly, sometimes it doesn't.

In any case, the healing boon obliterates the option for a killer to injure and break chase in order to go back to a high priority gen. There's no pressure created in that circumstance anymore because they can heal at medkit speeds, infinitely in a dead zone. The injured state is not a thing anymore when it matters the most, and that is an obvious problem.

Shadow step obsoletes lucky break and distortion. It's power creep, plain and simple.

  • She probably doesn't bathe and just reeks of layered patchouli.

  • Old undying was very unfair and dumb RNG. No thank you.

  • To what end? Navigating to a dead zone, doing the action, to disable a perk for maybe twenty seconds?

  • @Junylar said:

Nope. "Just do bones", as they say!

How many times? Infinitely, you say?

It's almost like this equivalence doesn't add up. Odd.

  • @drakolyr said:

Boon Totem perks do need to be looked at more... Cause the fact that they can be placed repeatedly is a problem and on top of Hexes

Already got nerfed if you put it on a hex. The boon totems aren't map wide and dont have that powerfull effect as hex does. SImple as that.

The complaints about NOED are getting to be too much at this point... either do Totems or leave if/when you get the gate(s) open

He says, after complaining about boons. Just do bones, stop complaining about boons. Duh.

Right now the Killer has to worry about:

    4 Survivors

    Up to 16 perks

    7 Gens

    Hooks

    Items

    Our own Power

    Hex Totems

    And now Dull Totems

    Map Geometry

Most of this also applies to survivors.

Survivors need also to look at:

    Killer special abilities.

    Killer Addons

    4 Powerfull Perks

    Unhook/heal other survivors

    etc etc...

Both sides have their stuff to do or "wasting" time.

This false equivalency is absurd. The sides are asymmetrical and must be judged by a separate sets of criteria.

It goes both ways. Folks saying hexes should be relit cuz boons can be is ridiculous. They're different sorts of things, the only commonality is that they use totems for their effects.

So yes, killers have more to worry about than survivors because they have to think about similar sets of things.....multiplied by four. The role is stressful at times, this is undeniable. Adding more stress and time pressure onto it is a hostile way to treat that part of your playerbase.

Probably agreeable if it took 14 seconds as well to destroy them.

Is be okay with this. Snuffing boons just *feels* bad and pointless. You hook a survivor, snuff a boon nearby or that you saw during chase and a new one's lit on the other side of the map. Boon whack a mole is supremely unsatisfying.

Trapper got buffed, plague got buffed, and Myers had some addons buffed. I would hardly call that almost exclusive to survivors especially when considering that we got a few killer perks buffed as well.

The killer perk buffs were largely inconsequential. Were the marginal buffs they gave those other killers worth butchering Slinger? I'd say not. Net loss in killer power this patch when you include the massive buffs survivors got.

it does affect it, spinechill is an aura reading perk. Edit: i guess i was misreading it last night, thought spinechill was aura reading related.

Yeah, it doesn't affect spine chill or small game. It's probably the weakest status effect and five seconds is just nothing.

  • @Iliketoplaykiller said:

J O L T is pretty sick now, now applies blindness on top of exhaust so those filthy spine chill users can't get value off of it.

...... blindness doesn't affect spine chill. And the effect is only for five seconds. It's worthless.

If you beat them they will dc over it and trash talk you.

This has a simple solution: "GG GL next".

Don't engage with these people, don't watch their streams.

  • Oh no. Anything but iri stone trapper. Too powerful. Uncounterable.

You wanna feel powerless? Try going against a swf TTV squad as a low tier killer. Utterly miserable.

  • @IronKnight55 said:

Sure! If they delete Ruin and Undying! :)

I don't run either of those perks. I'd happily accept this.

  • Please stop talking about it. They'll butcher it.

  • @unluckycombo said:

Nah, I actually like that you can Bless totems multiple times. I think it gives the survivor a good dichotomy of having to choose whether they should spend their time on a gen or blessing totems, and since it takes so long for Survivors to bless versus Killers breaking, it helps pull Survivors off of gens more if they're dead set on continuously getting boons up.

The opportunity cost for giving your entire team 6-8 perks is very small indeed.

  • Snuffing them feels pointless and unsatisfying. Just let me destroy the totems

I know that this is how it works. That there is an short delay (even if the describtion says immediately). But what I mean is that there is a huge latency. I really got used to when I have to shock, but now I have to shock many meters before I normally had to shock cause the latency is way higher.

Yes. I'm not talking about the latency as-designed, but connection latency. The plague and huntress have similar problems.

    And here's the fun thing.

Even if we do start using renewables, society then has to deal with ever increasing population and standard of living coupled with consumer culture on a planet with finite resources.

I am so, so sad that the space race isn't as popular nowadays.

It is infinitely easier to. repair the world we have now instead of terraforming or finding a new one. The will just needs to be there.

  • Yeah, latency really neuters his anti loop. You have to shock well in advance of when you really should.

  • I've been running dumb builds and intentionally tanking my MMR. The bad part is that sometimes I feel like trying and slap on better perks and stop soft throwing and I end up against teams I just stomp. It makes me feel bad.

First match today was vs 3 Mikaelas.. so in the first minute or two, I heard 3 boon totems going up.

I know in a week or two people will stop playing her as much and won't use her perks as much because they're a bit situational if the placement isn't great, but still, with a full party using them, and everyone seeing every blue totem auras, it can get out of hand fast.

You'll see them in nearly every game, much like dead hard. They are too valuable, do too much to just be set aside.

  • @Beaburd said:

Funny, I was actually just thinking this perk is pretty amazing now. The time it wastes as a supportive perk is kind of impressive, especially on the right killer.

    For example:

It takes 14 seconds to cleanse any totem, or boon a dull totem.

In comparison, it takes 28 seconds for a full-stack Thrill to cleanse any totem, or boon a dull totem.

It can even take a whopping 47 seconds for a full-stack Thrill+Thanatophobia to cleanse any totem, or boon a dull totem.

    ---

So worst case case scenario, with a full hex build, and the survivor cleansing everything except Thrill, Thrill alone is probably going to add about 30 seconds of cleansing ([14/.5 + 14/.6 + 14/.7) - (14x3)]. That's basically half a generator by itself, and ignores the sometimes enormous task of finding these totems on occasion.

For reference, Sloppy Butcher adds 4 seconds per M1. That's like hitting 7 Sloppy Butcher M1s at the start of the game.

    ---

It gets funnier if you include Thanatophobia, because every extra totem cleanse penalty after Thrill makes them exponentially more powerful.

Say you have a single person injured, that previous 28 second cleanse time (14/0.5) from Thrill turns into a 31 second cleanse time (14/0.45). Then 35 seconds (14/0.4), 40 seconds (14/0.35), and finally 46.7 seconds (14/0.30) the more you have injured.

    ---

And it gets even funnier when you realize that they HAVE to choose between destroying a totem entirely vs booning it when you're running full hexes. This is funny because booning takes 24 seconds to complete by default.

This means Thrill makes booning a hex take 48 seconds (24/0.5) longer for the first totem and up to a maximum of 80 seconds (24/0.30) to boon a single hex totem if you have max Thrill and Thanatophobia active.

    ---

Honestly, I'm having a blast running Thrill + Third Seal + Blood Favour + any other totem perk on Legion.

Although I admit it's making all the boon players miserable lol

But yeah, I think Thrill is actually super good if you're running a 4 or even 3 hex set up.

The minimum amount of time wasted running Thrill in the worst case scenario is ~30 seconds, excluding travel time. The maximum amount of time wasted running Thrill gets pretty disgusting, especially if you have a way to reliably track survivors like Legion does.

Unfortunately, a survivor can also just spawn right in front of your lit Thrill and get rid of it forever. All your numbers mean very little when the value is not guaranteed.

  • @Clevite said:

I think they are trying to get away from the abandon chase meta through perk notifications.

    I. E. Tinkerer.

Make killers actually work to find survivors and win chases instead of free alerts.

It's hardly free if you bring a perk for it. It costs you a perk slot for a perk of variable value. When something costs you, it's the definition of not free.

  • No. This patch was almost exclusively survivor buffs.

  • This post is very very bad.

  • This is the number one reason I can't play plague. So frustrating.

  • @ChiSoxFan11 said:

    Was it really, though?

I play a ton of both killer and survivor, and I have usually been at Red Rank/Rank 1 while doing so. Prior to SBMM going into effect, almost every lobby I faced as killer was also filled with Red Rank survivors, most really good, many part of multiple-person SWF groups all (or most) running meta-perk builds (which is fine, since I'm not a hypocrite -- I would and will run them as well).

Since SBMM, while I'm still running into those survivors with the killers I play the best with, the killers I struggle playing, the ones I have only started learning how to play, and the ones I need to improve with, I've seen a definite difference between the caliber of who I end up matched against. I've actually gotten a chance to play killers like The Twins and Deathslinger -- ones I'd never have attempted to play against those Red Rank lobbies before (since prior attempts to learn them usually ended in 0-1 hook, 5 minute matches) -- and gotten to practice with them and learn how to use them without being stomped into submission by stupidly good opponents. I've had competitive matches with those killers I've wanted to learn, and I even managed to snag Adepts on a number of them (something I never would have been able to say prior to SBMM). Instead of playing just a couple of killers I know I could compete with, I've branched out and now play almost every killer on the roster, because the matchmaking -- at least for me -- has helped in doing so and feeling like most matches (not all -- there are still exceptions) I stand a chance, regardless of who I'm using.

The previous system, if you were a killer who did well and ranked up, was largely putting you into matches against tough competition anyway, regardless of what killer you played. While the current system could be improved and tweaked to take into account more than a kill/escape metric -- you'll get no argument there from me -- people who think the previous matchmaking was more casual was some utopia of fairness or "casual" play is looking though rose-colored glasses. The players who "sweat", for the lack of a better word, are going to do so with or without SBMM in place.

You are aware each killer has their own MMR rating -- heavily influenced by your overall killer MMR? So you have a baseline for new killers that's inflated automatically. It's a dumb system.

  • They're busted. You'll rarely see a game without them. The range nerf means that they only cover a third of the map instead of half of it. People go on and on about the time investment while conveniently forgetting the fact that the game objective is still being progressed by three other survivors, so it's not that big of a deal. Especially in light of giving the other survivors six(seven? Eight? With shadow step) perks rather than two.

Folks also seem to think only swf will take advantage of them: wrong. Every survivor sees the totem and will flock to it to avoid bbq and maximize heals. It's not even good sweaty survivor behavior, it's just very basic stuff.

The nice thing about this game is that a relatively static meta means that power creep is not an issue. This patch is survivor power creep in a very raw form. I'm not certain the devs have the wherewithal to balance things out.

  • Ah, I see you've given the survivors a gun. This will end well.

  • Not looking forward to how boons are going to fundamentally change the game

  • If it showed totems it would just be the best totem perk in the game, immediately. Survivor or killer I'm okay with.

  • Doesn't work on windows store. Bummer.

  • Better than dealing with dead hard.

  • @Clevite said:

You just stated, that suvivors "have one objective, gen rush". Boon totems change this, now they have a second objective if they want to run Boon totems. Not to mention time spent to reset them, as well and an increase in healing verses just doing a gen, so they actually provide the killer more time as people will be finally spending time to "just do bones."

But, I agree with others, you will see them for a month and everyone will go back to their preferred builds.

The survivors don't have this objective. *One* survivor has this fourteen-second objective. The others are still progressing the win state while the fourth survivor is giving them a fifth and sixth perk slot.

  • @Bwsted said:

They will be the flavor of the month and be forgotten for the usual meta before next chaptter. This is basically Counterforce drama 2.0

Nope. It eliminates an entire playstyle and reinforces the strongest thing a survivor can do.

  • What happens when I've hooked two survivors within a short distance from one another? Should I leave them and permit the unhook? If I don't, I've very likely won the game. If I let them leave and reset I'm at square one.

Under your system they'd just rotate out until they got unhooked. No punishment for their mistake. No thank you.

  • Did you know twins eats a five second stun every time Victor downs someone?

  • @Mandy said:

Can confirm that your MMR does not reset when the Grades reset (or at any other time).

MMR should really decay so that folks who take a break don't have to lose thirty games to get fair ones.

  • Your friends seem kinda whiny. Disconnecting for pinhead? God help them vs. nurse and spirit.

  • It's wild how people will scramble for any excuse for the DC penalty to be turned off. My dog ran away, turn off the DC penalty. The moon is a waxing crescent, turn off the DC penalty.

You had a hacker that didn't hold the game hostage. Just let go on hook and get in a new game.

  • I think he has one of the best Moris in the game, but yeah. The antidote is mostly worthless.

  • As regarding the OP, I kind of agree. The last couple patches have been net survivor perk buffs with very little for the killer. It'd be nice if they threw killers a bone or two.

  • @Crowman said:

Plague was never in the worst killer tier. I don't think anyone was putting her below B tier.

I'd put her down there in D-tier. Her vomit is just too unreliable with their netcode. It really hinders her.
