Maps are divided in smaller squares. Every square is referred to as a tile.
Some of those tiles are templates that can spawn on different maps. Stuff like TL walls, jungle gyms, shack. Survivors want to run them a certain way and, naturally, killers need to deny that by running them differently.
You can google 'how to run common tiles/loops as killer'. Off the top of my head, Scott Jund, OhTofu, PainReliever and Raging Ryuga all have made guides about this.
This is great advice I will try this. Because the killer I really wanted to be my main was the Pig but I found her too underpowered.

Can we just freaking fix the hitboxes already?
Sorry but latency aint the only freaking problem whens it happens THIS often, the fact that the hitbox is so big is what allows even the tiniest latency to hit around corners.
Ive ran across this very issue on other games and the hitbox was alway the main problem, its too big and the latency shows it.
Its beyond me how there was one single attempt at fixing it and they just gave up right away.
She's a little underpowered right now in my opinion. She is too weak in the loop game. I can't seem to get huntress past rank 5

Bad advice, but just play the game some more. I have around 2500 hours and rarely if ever fail to 3-4k with any killer. Its all about getting those hours of dedicated practice and experience in, giving up and becoming a slave to the meta will only infuriate you further with each mounting failure. One day you may shout "How could i possibly lose with spirit!?" at your monitor in a fit of blind rage, never realizing you failed to grow as a killer by refusing to face loss. Don't let your anger control you, its just a game. Have fun and the experience will come naturally.
That's actually really good advice.

Aside from Nurse, Spirit, and Blight, the game largely comes down to how well the survivors play.
I tried Blight once. How in the hell do you control a pinball lol?

There's no separate hour count. A guesstimate is totally fine.
In terms of playtime, you're still green, which is good because when you fall short is simply because of lack of experience, of which one can always accumulate more.
In general, about 500h in each role is when someone starts to get comfortable and 1k is pushing into got gud territory, imho.
Many of the issues you're encountering now are linked to the fact that you're probably playing with incomplete builds and that rankings rushed you upward too fast, because that's how it works.
I'll give the advice that I always do. Watch a tutorial on how to run common tiles. Then pick a simple m1 killer (Legion is great for this) and get sound fundamentals in pathing and decision-making. Keep your mindgames simple and don't spam them. Stick to the rule of thumb: if you don't get a pallet or a hit before bloodlust 1, you did something wrong and consider abandoning the chase. Review interesting spots and what you did weĺl/wrong/coulda done better.
For the rest, it's practice. You can play any killer in red ranks. Some are more build dependant than others. Don't expect to 4k every trial against good survivors. The game would be broken if that were the case.
So when people talk about tiles what are the referring to?
-
No I've seen it happen multiple times. Maybe just coincidental? I'm mean it's not the end of the world. And I can't imagine people would go out of their way to troll in a lobby. But than again... lol

Nurse is more fun if you're a masochist.
Anyway, might I ask you hos many hours do you have playing killer? I'd genuinely like to help.
Hmm. I would say I have 300 hours in this game in total. How do I see my hours in killers? I would imagine at least 50% of my hours into killer. I play survivors a good amount

Depends on who you play since each killer deals with it differently. As for general tips forcing pallet drops early is the most important thing imo. Sure you may not get a hit but you’re creating a dead zone for later.
Don’t forget basic moonwalking and Double backing (Don’t do it too much though since you’ll just waste time)
Ya I do try this sometimes. Maybe I am W to much as killer.
-
Thanks everyone :) I have just a little over 300 hours into the game now. And I still have a lot to learn. Last season I got Rank 1 with Freddy. But I can't seem to do it with anyone else :/

That's the problem with high level dbd. It's in the survivors favour (if they are cooridinated) unless you use killer powers that "break the games rules" with sprit and nurse. That's why a lot of people dont want mmr because this will happen with a lot of good killer players, they will be forced to play spirit and nurse if they want to win.
That's basically what I am saying. I feel like I have to use them.

You don’t need the top killers to win. Or gen regression perks. I would suggest a killer player struggling in red ranks figure out the holes in their game.
The idea of only playing two out of twenty four killers sounds miserable to me.
No I mean I'm being more salty than anything else. I guess I just can't seem to counter really good loopers. I made it to rank 1 as freddy last season and maintained it for a good week. But there are just games where I would've been better off standing in a corner while survivors do gens.

Luckily there are!

After playing this game for a while this question has sort of dawned on me. I've personally noticed that the sweatiest killers tend to be Plagues, Spirits, and Freddys. The most memey/kindest killers i've noticed were Blights, Ghostfaces, and Demo's. What do you think?
You know I guess I am starting to wonder why this community points out the term sweats as often as it does. Idk if I know the proper sweats term. But I imagine it isn't much different from try hards? I mean even that terms to me is off putting. Why do we categorize sweats and try hards in a negative connotation? I mean what's wrong with trying your outmost best to win a match?
But to answer your question I would imagine this is an easy answer. It'd be your killers that are meta that are filled with "sweats"
Can you imagine if someone went up to any other top athlete and told them they were a sweat. Like #########? Okay so I did amazing? Thanks?
The term “sweat” has been used at large by Fortnite streamers to talk about players who use complex and difficult strategies to take down opposing players even when they wouldn't need to. ... “Sweat” literally means that after a fight, the player was surely trying so hard to make a flashy play that they're sweating

Well. It's meant to be grindy and addictive because they want you to play more. Especially the players that just like to play the game for specific contents, they give you incentives to play a lot more and play different things.
It affects competitive match quality but this game isn't really focused on being ultra competitive. If it was i don't think they would make super strong ultra rare add ons like fragrant tuft of hair.
Decent point but I think the game would still be plenty grindy already. And I think the game has enough of a replay value on its gameplay alone but that's just my opinion. And I'm not saying get rid of any perks just have them be a set tier. And not to get rid of any addons just have the best versions of those add ons.
I think it's the opposite. I think a huge player base is super competitive and interested in the meta builds. At least for me I play this game very competitively for the most part. I plan on having my meme fun builds eventually but it'll be 60 years until I have everything unlocked the way I want it.

I mean if we compare his basekit to nurse and spirit is he even on par?

Dead Space is one of my dream chapters, I so badly want to play as Isaac in his armor or the Ubermorph as the killer. The perks you thought up are super cool too
Here are my ideas for possible perks too.
RESIST THE INFLUENCE
Your experience with powerful forces has given you the ability to keep a level head under dire circumstances.
Begin the trial with 1 token up to a maximum of 2/3/4. Tokens can be gained by cleansing totems.
Whenever you would be affected by a Hex, instead consume 1 token.
STASIS
Advanced technology allows for creative strategies to deal with threats.
Press and hold the Active Ability Button for 2 seconds while standing within 4m of the killer to slow their Picking-up, Dropping, Pallet breaking, Breakable-Wall breaking, Generator damaging, and Vaulting speeds by 40% for 20 seconds.
Stasis has a cooldown of 100/80/60 seconds.
COMBAT PROWESS
You're no stranger to combat and are willing to fight back with the odds against you.
Press the Active Ability Button while walking to throw a punch directly in front of you, stunning the killer for 2.5 seconds if hit.
Combat Prowess causes the Exhausted status effect and causes breathing and grunts of pain to be louder for 60/50/40 seconds.
Okay I took a combination of our perks and put them together. Updated the 2 you picked and tweaked them. Let me know your thoughts. Reasons for the changes are as follows. Resist the Influence was just a tad too strong the way you had it. If you think about it it's actually a really good perk idea. Starting with no tokens would encourage the survivor to look for totems right away. Also if for whatever reason the killer is running Thrill of the hunt it does not negate this right off the bat. So you have to earn your first token naturally. This perk would be absolutely amazing for any totem hunting build. Having to succeed the skill check is icing on the cake as it justifies the amazing resistance to totem affects such as NOED. The fact that it can completely negate totem affects for the amount of time it is is pretty good. It still might be too strong in some cases but overall looks like it's in a good spot now.
Now with Stasis Module it was ridiculous with lasting as long as you had it lol. I changed it to just clarifying that it works on the killers entire movements and actions as a whole. But only up to 3 seconds as that's still a clutch amount of time to throw off the killer in chases. Or imagine you need to reposition yourself just a little faster to blind the killer picking up a survivor. Those extra 3 seconds can make all the difference. Maybe slowing an attack or ability. It all adds up. Because of the short amount of cooldown of 140/120/100 justifies this ability in my opinion as realistically you're using it maybe 5-7 times a match? So if you're slowing the killer down for a total of 15-21 seconds overall that is a lot.
I didn't see a reason to change Whatever it Takes as most people feedback was it was the better of my 3 perk ideas. I got rid of the other very situational perks as we have plenty of generator repair speed perks. And the other one was just a tad too ridiculous lol.
"Resist the Influence" Years of resisting dark forces has strengthened your mind beyond measure.
For every totem you cleanse gain a token up to a maximum of 5. When you would normally be affected by any totem effects you instead make a skill check. Upon succeeding the skill check you consume a token and ignore any currently active totem effects for 10/20/30 Seconds. After "Resist the Influence" expires any current active totem affects resume their affects as normal.
"You can't have us."
"Stasis Module" Once a supplementary accoutrement to your Rig suit is now an everyday accessory for you.
Press and hold the Active Ability Button for 2 seconds while standing within 4 meters of the killer to slow all of their movements and actions by 50% for 3 seconds. "Stasis Module" has a cooldown of 140/120/100 seconds
"Stick around. I’m full of bad ideas."
"Whatever It Takes" You're a master engineer and always find another way.
During the trial if you're the last survivor and at least 4 generators have been completed you're able to bypass the last generator being finished and open one of the exit gates but takes 100%/75%/50% longer to open the exit gates.
"...doesn’t look like I have a choice."

Against good survivors it's a bad strategy.
Tunnelling is good when the survivors are bad or there's one bad survivor with 3 good survivors. You tunnel out the bad one and leave the 3 good ones at a disadvantage.
Now if all 4 are good, whoever you are tunnelling is gonna loop you too efficiently, you might not even be able to get them on death hook by the time the survs get all gens done.
But as we know, most survivor players are complete ######### at the game.
You can tunnel no one's going to stop you. It's a playstyle. Boring as hell but I personally rarely tunnel. I only go for the same survivor if he sticks around while his teammates run off doing an improper unhook. I will punish them for this mistake. But 9/10 times I am going for a different survivor. I personally don't like tunneling unless I have no other choice. But when I ever tunneled I noticed more survivors escaping. At least against a good team. Doing it against a poor team is just not fun for me.

Devs, I understand that people were unintentionally DCing due to the crashes and I know that y'all are working on getting that fixed before bringing the penalty back, but please fix those issues. Players abusing DCs is a serious problem that is more problematic than the things that make people DC.

Wanna know what I did for the rest?
Farmed. For the rest of the time I've been farming. I made sure to get survivors to have 28,000 minimum and escape with crowns.
I've been doing my part.
But, I also would like to save a ridiculous amounts of cake as a memento of a good time.
Don't come to me like I'm selfish.

Thats not the point. Right now on the upper end survivor on the same skill level are too strong for most killers. So they need a change. But if you would nerf survivor and balance around good players, the game would be killersided for weaker player.
Okay that makes sense. I guess if that's the case the game should be as balanced as possible at the top skill player base. If we watched 100 matches with the 4 best survivors in the world and the best killer in the world would it be 50/50? 40/60? 30/70? Who wins more? That's what I would want to know. That is what matters. Because at that point all the lesser skilled players regardless of how good or bad they are will eventually run into the odds against them at the top of their skill level. Of course this is a survivor sided game and most people like that. It's how it should be. Why? Because 4/5 people are favored. A game like Evolve died because it was too monster sided. 1 player every match was having fun while the other 4 struggled the whole time. In DBD's case having 4 people being in favor is far more logical and makes sense. I wouldn't play this game if it was Killer Sided.
Yes if it was perfectly balance we would all love that.

They're a limited item. So. Yes.
I love collecting genuinely rare items in games I love to play.
You're like this old man I know. He accepts donations to this Parrot Rescue Organization that he works at and it's a non profit company. He does this to keep two African Greys there at the shelter. And he just likes the extra money. But the literal purpose of this Parrot Rescue is to rehome them away from the Rescue. He is literally defeating the purpose of what the company is supposed to be doing. It actually goes against the mission statement.
How does this pertain to you? You are hoarding something that is meant to be shared with other players. This also benefits you as not only are you helping others maximize their endless hunt for BP but your own.
And tell you what. You really like rare items that everyone and their mom has? Okay than just keep one for yourself and use the rest lol.

People who save their cake offering are like preppers. They've prepared for all imaginable apocalypse scenarios. They've have hoarded everything imaginable in hopes to be prepared. But than the world gets hit by a meteorite completely exploding our planet. But at least they got their Twinkies...

I think it’s situational awareness in a lot of instances. Trying to be fancy at the start of matches when those highlights they’re emulating from good players were after gens were done and hexes popped.
I swear survivors lose massively disproportionately more from the ‘bully’ type teammates than benefit. As killer I don’t mind, but it’s terrible when surviving.
That too. Agreed.
@Aven_Fallen said:
Maps should consist of only a really small number of safe Pallets/Tiles and mostly consist of unsafe Pallets. A good Survivor can actually utilize those, a bad Survivor will not get much use out of the unsafe Pallets.
And, furthermore, a bad Survivor will not waste that many valuable ressources. If you have a Map with 8 safe Pallets and said bad Survivor uses 5 of them, they got a chase of 1 minute and killed their team in the process. If you have 20 unsafe Pallets and the Survivor manages to use 5 of them (if they even manage to last this long), there are still plenty of pallets left to be used.
THIS would make a difference between good Survivors and bad Survivors. Obviously, Bloodlust needs to be gone with that changes, otherwise Killers would just get free hits all the time because they just need to hold W instead of trying to mindgame unsafe Tiles.
I cannot really think of other ideas which would help to keep Survivor-Skill but only punish bad Survivors and not good Survivors OR which might make good Survivors weaker, without having bad Survivors suffer.
And again I stress to not dumb down a game that already isn't that complicated or really that hard. It has a high skill cap as it should. Go play dark souls and than tell me this game is hard.

It's worse to save them. After the event you'll only be getting 1 per match but during the event you can get up to 5. You should be stacking them not using them one at a time.
Exactly anyone who thinks saving them might actually be disappointed. What happens is everyone saves them and just uses them at random times throughout the year. So again you will see 1 per match. You maximize every match with 5 cakes during the event because everyone's using and getting them.
Now those on console your situation might be different. I can understand why console players would. But no offense console players I don't want your problems right now lol xD
All PC players... I would suggest turning off cross platform play so you only get PC players. SO if PC players are hoarding their cakes shame on them.

@Steel_Eyed said:
Simple: good survivors progress the game forward. Any action that does not progress the game is wasteful.
Following the killer with a flashlight as they chase a second survivor at five gens is the hallmark of a bad survivor.
Agreed it is about learning what works and doesn't. It's about strategy, making mistakes, and learning from them. Regardless of SWF or Solo play. When I first started playing this game I was horrible! I literally thought the only way to play was to hide as Bill and never engage with the killer and just look for the hatch. I literally did this. I would get into a match. Not help any of my fellow survivors if it put me at risk. And look for the hatch the whole game and hide around it. But I was so new I just thought it was every man for themselves. Than the more time and effort I put into it I realized how so wrong I was.
-
@TicTac said:
And how would you nerf good survivor without affecting bad survivor?
Its not about taking away the skill of playing survivor, but more about adjusting things which are too strong if you know what you are doing.
Fot example safe pallets make it easy to run most killers effortlessly, but bad survivor throw them down, get hit bc they panic and create a deadzone. A bad survivor should never loop as long as a good survivor but the current gap is too much imo.
So what are doing good survivor different, which of this things should stay like they are and which should be changed?
I would change your perspective. Why would they nerf a mechanic because players are good at utilizing it? I mean this question is like saying... "Hey we have football players who are really good at utilizing this play book. But some others aren't so much. Maybe we should just throw out the play book or dumb it down?" Umm here's what I'd say... "Bad players just get better at the game." Practice practice practice. Not, easier easier easier. So what's the difference between a good and bad survivor? Someone who puts in the time and effort. What's the difference between someone with a PHD and a High School Diploma? Time and effort put into it.
So what I would do is watch the top streamers and see what they do and shoot for that. Do you think football players are wondering how things can get easier to be on Tom Brady's level? Or are they trying to work as hard as Tom Brady?
-
At first I thought this was a bad idea. But it's not necessarily. I think 4 is just kind of that sweet spot number. I think a 5th perk slot doesn't really fix anything in this game. I think the game is in a good spot to be honest. Adding a 5th perk slot just narrows the field of diversity of perks that survivors are running. 4 perks isn't enough, 5, 6... What is enough? Do we just want all perks as passive abilities? A 5th Perk slot would be over whelming. And you said with so many perks now it's hard to choose just 4. Well I like that there is only so much I can do to make a build with 4. 16 perks for survivors at most and 4 for killer. It's a 1 to 4 difference. Making it a 1-5 difference would actually put the killer at an ever more disadvantage.
-

And I really just want one survivor with every perk and call it a day for that. And that'll save me also a butt load. And I plan on just having 2 or 3 killers with every perk as well. @JHondo said:
He needs some QoL changes. If you think about it Ghostface is similar to Trapper in that he's an M1 killer that gets the best use of his power by out positioning survivors. Ghostface is alright he just needs some consistency with his reveal mechanic. Trapper isn't in as awful of a spot as many people like to claim, he just needs his RNG fixed and to make using his power more efficient. I agree with some of the above ideas but the Stone add-ons should stay as they are, death state on escaping is incredibly useful but niche and Iri Stone is one of the only good Iri add-ons in the game that isn't absolutely insanely strong.
I would also add that traps should tint with the color of the map, there's no reason they should appear the color they do on all maps, right now they blend well with Coldwind and okay with Dead Dawg but stand out against the slight blue, green, and purple tints of Macmillan, Autohaven, and Yamaoka/Badham respectively.
I agree with with what you're saying. Two things I would do. The trap colors on different maps like you suggested. And I would have him start with all of his traps on him personally. Just like Hag has all of her traps on her already. Or Seals w/e you know what I mean.
-
I mean... They are great and all. But plenty of survivors and killers can be successful without these perks. Yes it helps against tunneling and camping. But beyond that BT only helps with poor unhooks. And Corrupt is just a good stalling perk overall. But a team of survivors who know what they're doing can easily wait out the Perk.
