No matter how you play, you can't make everyone happy. Some people will be upset and fling verbal abuse if they lose, and they'll gloat and fling verbal abuse if they win. Play how you want. I usually try very hard not to tunnel or camp and I still got complaints up until I turned off messages and friend requests (I'm on PS4). I continue to try very hard not to tunnel or camp, but I do it in blessed silence and it feels sooooo much better that way.

I presume? It was a supposition, to defend oneself is to admit it..

"People like you are why DC penalties should never be removed. I’d even say make them more punishing we don’t need babies on this game." No lesson please, no lesson !

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1784329#Comment_1784329

Basically I didn't even come to discuss with this person (who allows himself to follow me on another topic).. despite the fact that he knows perfectly well that discussion between us is impossible...! I say, it's deliberate.

"you may think you're perfect in every way in this game but you dismiss areas that are out of your control and then cloak your own rage quitting in a cloak of righteousness that others can see and know what you are doing, you are projecting your own failing upon others and trying to claim the moral high ground which you do not have for many reasons."

I'm starting from a disconnection penalty to this..

The argument is going all over the place. That's what happens on forums in general, really. Let's try to simplify this a little...

You said you leave matches because you don't like the way the other side is playing. The killer hits you on the hook a bunch, you don't like it, you leave. The developers of the game do not consider that to be a good reason to leave a match. That is why the disconnect penalty exists, because the developers do not want players leaving matches just because the players are unhappy with how it's going. You can argue about that all you want and claim it's not fair, but after years of players complaining about the rampant disconnects in matches the developers have made their decision and it is highly unlikely they will change their mind.

You asked "I would like to know when the penalty will go down to 5 minutes?" As far as I know, the developers keep knowledge like that to themselves because knowing the exact numbers would lead to people trying to get around the system. They don't want players to know when the penalty will go down so that disconnecting becomes an option again because the developers don't want players to disconnect in the first place.

As to your connection problems, there are a lot of people who play DbD who do not have connection problems. You can request technical help with the issue on the DbD forums, through a help ticket, and/or from your internet service provider.

If I had your GTs I'd play killer against you, I'd do exactly what you do... tunnel, camp, hit hock... just to know the reaction, because in the end it's often when you've never been there that you don't understand anything. Play only killer, nerver play in survivor.. logic😋

... there is no one in this game who has never been tunneled, camped, and hit on the hook. Even "mains" play the other side occasionally, and if someone has played survivor they've experienced this.

(Also, I like how in your previous post you wrote "thank you but keep your analysis,we don't know each other ." and then made a load of assumptions about someone else, telling them how they play.)

  • Aren't there some changes to the Daily Rituals going live tomorrow? iirc, the minimum reward will be 30k for all rituals, and Ghost Face's ritual is being changed to just stalking a few survivors, no leaning or downing required.

I could be wrong, but I could swear I remember that being mentioned.

  • It really depends on the situation. In terms of what choice you should make, I don't think it's different than hooking a single survivor anywhere else except that it's easier to defend if you do see someone heading for the unhook. If you hook 2+ survivors down there, that's when it becomes more advantageous to stay close or outright camp.

    Nope,it was exactly the same.

Awake survivors had terror radius and sleeping survivors heard the lullaby

Really? Wow, it's been so long I can't even keep track.

I remember it was funny seeing survivors who were clueless about Freddy's gameplay going into the basement, and I'm just watching their auras like, "Wow." But at the same time any survivor who knew what they were doing was a pain. I turn a corner, they're cleansing my hex, and they know how much time they have left before they fall asleep so they're not worried enough to run off before they destroy the thing in my face. And playing against him, I had so much time during which I knew I was untouchable during any match, and if my stealth failed I knew immediately because I'd start to fall asleep.

He was such a mixed bag. But that's just my personal experience.

Edit: Oh, I see below this that I was kinda right! Lullaby when awake but it still acted as a TR for perks like Coulrophobia. Yeah, I wasn't sure about it acting like a TR or not, but I really did think I remembered the lullaby-when-awake thing; nice to know my mind isn't completely gone yet lol.

It was pretty fun watching survivors trying to heal in your face when you had coulrophobia

I thought old Freddy was the opposite of current Freddy, so he had a lullaby instead of a TR when the survivor was awake?

  • I love watching this guy's stuff, it is so cute!

  • Yes! Definitely! There has never been anything as fun as watching a survivor cleanse a totem while I stood by helplessly because they hadn't fallen asleep yet. Devs, return this aspect immediately or expect a killer boycott!

actually it can be different, depends on how many actual hooks there will be but for the killer the points given when someone does d/c, you end up getting points in brutality and not sacrifice as it should so the even is not considered for emblems properly. also same goes for the survivors as well. but I agree with you @TragicSolitude

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1783868#Comment_1783868

if you're already on the hook why not just try to escape three times and not struggle, you keep your points, don't get a penalty and they don't get to keep hitting you. I personally find it's idiotic to keep slashing you but some of them think this reduces your time on the hook but it doesn't. but why give up points even if a couple 1000, when you're already there and give the killer something for what they did. and you don't get the penalty so guess what..... you don't get that 5 hour penalty. I sympathize that the killer was being an ass but not for your time out for disconnecting.

If it's the first hook, the difference in BP is 575 points. If it's the second hook, it's 375. Either way, that's not a lot of BP. Yeah, it gets more complicated if you take category and emblems into account.

You're right about some killers thinking it reduces time. If a killer keeps hitting me on the hook, I'm usually like, "This has got to be a rank 20." Lo and behold, it usually is. The game doesn't teach new players crap with its excuse of a tutorial, so a lot of new killers really do believe that hitting survivors on the hook has some sort of effect. Why wouldn't they? Nothing tells them otherwise, and the survivor reacts to being hit. So, 90% of the time if I'm being hit on the hook, I know it's nothing personal; the player on the other side thinks it's a legitimate part of gameplay, and that misconception really isn't their fault.

  • Ooh, I hope so. I love when survivors burn Haddonfield: I get to put the controller down and go get a snack. I mean, I assume they want to do gens uninterrupted; you don't pick Haddonfield if you want to interact with the killer.

  • @Jill10230 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1780886#Comment_1780886

First: YES I quit the game several times, simply because I refuse to serve the points of a *** who hits me 20 times in a row for no reason... it's irritating, I'm human I feel his bad thoughts and I don't play for that! My looping skills are 10 seconds maximum.. it's sure it's irritated!

Second: I don't care about your "sympathy", you don't get it when you hook the survivors I don't expect sympathy here.

I just wonder why the developers mysteriously activated the permission to hit survivors on the hook when a few months ago they deactivated it... Anyway

When you DC, the killer gets points for that; the difference between the points they get for sacrificing you and the points they get for you disconnecting is not that big. If you're already on the hook, you might as well just suicide so that you still get any points you earned. You're screwing yourself out of a lot more points than you're taking away from the killer, not to mention the dc penalty you incur. You're not hurting the killer, only yourself.

  • @SunderMun said:

I've never witnessed people DCing for Devour Hope before, tbh.

Back when I was trying to get the "mori 4 survivors in one match" achievement, I used Devour Hope. It took me sooooo long to get that stupid achievement because if my hex didn't get broken immediately into the match then survivors would DC the moment I downed them before I could even start the mori animation. It was an absolute headache.

  • The killer can't exactly watch a player switch from one survivor to a survivor with a different perk loadout. I mean, the killer doesn't see which perks are equipped, that player could've switched from a Meg running Object of Obsession and Soul Guard to a Laurie running Adrenaline and Deliverance, the killer would have no idea either way. The only case in which a survivor character is more than just a skin is Claudette in dark clothes, but that has nothing to do with perks.

The big problem is survivors being able to last-second switch with items, either suddenly putting on a key or switching to a character with a key. It's the last-second items that screw over a killer being able to properly prepare for a match.

  • For one thing, you're probably not the first match the killer's had that day. If that killer's matches are anything like what I've experienced, matchmaking is kicking the crap out of him and he feels like a punching bag. If a killer's celebrating and smacking you on the hook just for one chase (and you weren't being a toxic dick), he's either a huge baby or he's had some very bad matches and he's just letting out his frustration on you, in which case it's not personal and has little to do with you at all, really. In fact, he may be frustrated at himself, because if his previous matches have gotten him tilted then his performance is probably suffering which only makes him more frustrated.

It's an unfortunate truth in this game that as killer your most miserable matches are probably going to be against survivors who are pretty much untouchable, and so it's the survivors in the next match who are going to feel your pain. It takes a very laid back killer or a whole lotta weed for that to not be the case.

    This. Thank you.

Amazing you have to explain this to someone.

Well, OP isn't the first person to get the queue thing mixed up. It happens, no harm done. It's also kinda crazy to think that in a game where you need 4x as many survivors as killers, survivors are the ones with the overflowing queues.

  • @Blindninja said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1779448#Comment_1779448

No When I que as killer I get a game within 30 secs max

Then that means what people were saying: no one wants to play killer. The longer the wait time, the more people are queuing up for that role. If killer is instant, that means there aren't enough killers for the number of survivors playing.

  • @Blindninja said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1779428#Comment_1779428

Opposite for me. So that means it must be per region.

Like I said instant killer and 5 mins for surv here in Florida. So yalls theory about no one wanting to play killer cant be right.

Sorry, I think wires got crossed here or something. So you're saying that when you load up to play killer, it takes five minutes for survivors to enter your lobby? And when you play survivor it instantly finds a killer?

  • You've gotten balanced matches in the past? Damn, man, personally if I ever got a bunch of balanced matches in a row I'd be coming on the forums to find out what's suddenly changed. Unbalanced, now that's the norm. Constant rainbows, seeing red ranks and rank 17s in the same lobby. It's been that way for a looong time.

  • You're not the first person to suggest this. In fact, someone started a thread about this very thing four days ago. And it's been brought up many times before that.

The devs actually tested exit gate regression and found it disproportionally hurt solo survivors:

    @Peanits said:

This was actually something that was tested earlier on when the End Game Collapse was created, for what it's worth. While it's nice, it did mean that coordinated groups had a noticeable advantage over solo players. You could communicate and have one guy wait on the gate keeping it prepped and ready to open while the other guy goes for the save. Meanwhile a solo player would have to cross their fingers and hope for the best, possibly coming back to a gate at 0%.

Ultimately it was decided against. We don't want to widen that gap anymore than it already is.

As far as the blocking the gate bit goes, that would be considered griefing and you can report them for that.

And here's a link to the thread that quote is from https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/133469/exit-gates-should-reset-or-regress/

    Is doing totems an objective?

Last time I heard, you did not need to do totems to win the match.

By your logic, there is no counter to hex totems.

Just admit that you want a free tunneling pass. No need to be ashamed.

I mean, the devs didn't add totems to the game so that survivors could ignore them. They were added as another objective to slow things down a bit. NOED means ignoring dull totems at your peril. Undying adds another element to that. If survivors weren't supposed to treat totems like a second objective, the devs wouldn't keep adding in reasons for survivors to do totems.

And killers don't have to tunnel to get hit by DS. I've gotten hit by DS just for trying to stop a healthy survivor from making a hook save. I've gotten hit by DS because survivors chose to look the exact same. And I've gotten hit by DS because instead of lunging the stupid controls decided to grab the survivor off a gen.

  • I wholeheartedly agree, and I've said this ever since the map got reworked. It doesn't matter that the layouts are a little different, it feels very repetitive to get multiple Badham maps in a row. Like DbD doesn't feel repetitive enough sometimes. I mean, it kinda sucks to get different maps from the same realm multiple times in a row because they feel so same-y, but Badham takes that to the next level.

  • I don't run Ruin and Undying, but I get survivors acting like dicks because they're desperate to use their DS on the nice killer who didn't slug or tunnel. That's why I complain.

  • pre-nerfed basekit Nurse

    old Ruin

being able to change killers in the lobby

    Kate's original P3 head

  • My problem with NOED is more about my teammates and the way luck works out. I cleanse 4 totems, NOED procs anyway, and then if anyone dies to it it's going to be me. Sucks. It highlights part of why solo survivor can be such a poor experience.

One of the regular complaints about NOED I see on the forum is how it can reward killers for playing poorly and thus the killer never learns to get better. A usual giveaway that a killer is running NOED is that he'll tunnel the same survivor for five gens, and then he gets a 3k because of NOED. The argument against this is that survivors are letting this happen by not doing bones. After all, if the killer is busy chasing one person all match, you should've had time to cleanse totems. Survivors like to stick to their guns that they only have one objective, which is obviously not quite true if NOED is getting them killed. However, NOED hits solo survivors harder than SWF because there's no totem counter (like solos needed another thing to make their matches miserable).

Neither side is completely wrong, so the argument goes on ad infinitum.

  • This made me laugh. Really good write up. +1

Hey, remember how when Ghost Face was released there was no Undetectable status and OoO totally cucked him? He's never had an easy time of it, has he.

  • I've heard of this being a strat for farming, because the remaining 3 survivors can either farm or get steamrolled, so they usually choose to farm. So, it's not unusual, just kinda annoying when you're the unlucky survivor who got culled to make the other three submissive.

  • A mori (Cypress Mori, Ivory Mori, Ebony Mori) is an offering which allows the killer to kill survivors by their own hands.

The Tombstone add-on is an add-on that allows Michael to kill survivors by his own hands.

Rancor and Hex: Devour Hope are perks which can allow the killer to kill survivors by their own hands.

Whenever there's an achievement or challenge or something requiring a killer to kill survivors by their own hands, any of the above methods count towards it.

In general, when discussing DbD, most people refer to the animation where a killer kills someone with their own hands as the killer's mori because it's easiest. Even Pyramidhead's little kill he can do is often referred to as a mini-mori.

So, the Tombstone piece is technically an add-on with different requirements than a mori offering but the kill itself uses the same animation.

  • Nah, Blood Warden is super fun if you can actually get it to proc. I've really enjoyed it the... uh... I think I got use out of it just the one time. But I liked it!

As survivor, I can only think of one time I've died to Blood Warden, and it was my fault. I knew the killer had Rancor and I didn't immediately leave, I tried to stay and heal a teammate so they could go rescue the survivor who was about to be hooked. I knew better than to stay on the map.

Sometimes I wonder if people like us are the majority, but just don't speak up as much.

There just can't be massive amounts of suddenly good players.

So there has to be plenty of people like us if they stick around, just getting chewed up by bad match making, and smurfs.

Like you, I don't mind challenge, but I want to feel like I got a fair game in the process. SWF has already put a deep anxiety into my killer games.

If I play survivor, it's solo only. I'm too casual to have a ring of friends, and having been on the killer side, I feel pretty lousy even considering SWF. I would like to treat people in game the way I want to be treated.

If SWF were actually balanced, this concern would probably go away.

Most of my killer games is wanting to get BP, chase, hook some, and see how it ends.

I actually use Beast of Prey just for the BP bonus.

I use Beast of Prey, too! My favorite build on all killers is BBQ, Distressing, Beast of Prey, and Whispers. So great for BP. And I have noticed that some survivors get confused by the lack of a red stain with Beast of Prey, which is a nice bonus, but I'd use it even if all it did was boost BP gain. (And I am still sitting here waiting for them to add a perk that gives a BP bonus in the Brutality category. So many useless perks, they could at least create a useless perk with that benefit.)

I've tried playing SWF a few times, but being social can be kinda draining for me. And I felt obligated to set aside extra time to play because I was playing with others. I like the flexibility of being able to take a break, switch roles, or turn off the game and then pick it back up whenever the mood strikes. So, I stick to solo survivor and killer.

Matchmaking that put newbies with newbies, skilled with skilled, and casuals with casuals would go a long way to improving the gameplay experience. And I really don't know how the devs expect to balance anything when the right players aren't even versing each other.

  • @Rebel_Raven said:

Was thinking about getting back into the game during the weekend, but seeing so much... this, kinda killed it.

It's why I left ages ago to begin with. I was continually going in over my head because matchmaking doesn't give a crap that I'm a casual, and need other casual players.

I don't want to steamroller other players, nor do I want to become their plaything.

Watching tru, and otz dealing with what this likely results in, I just don't need to endure it. I'm a nice killer. I don't or can't play meta, and I don't deserve it.

I'll never be as good as they are, and I don't have the arsenal for it.

Seeing the Blood Lust test just widen the gap making less room for killers to screw up, and more room for survivors to screw up when you have to rely on the survivors to make mistakes didn't help much either.

And it's annoying because I still love the game. It's rare I have any affection for a PVP game since I hate dealing with other people, but yet here we are.

I just gotta wait for it to be a lot closer to fair. Haha

Sorry, I just had to rant, and get this out of my system.

Ohmigod, are you me? That's pretty much how I feel, except I'm stupid enough to let the Tome challenges/Rift bring me back when I take a break. I'm a casual player. I don't have it in me to be a hardcore super-competitive player, that's just not me. The game really needs to get its crap together with matchmaking. I'd like a challenge, but DbD is terrible at putting the right players in a lobby to create a match that's a fun challenge for all involved. So, I ping-pong between putting up a fight and playing super lazy/meme-y in an attempt to create a balance for myself that the game is so far incapable of achieving on its own.

its pretty messed up they let that happen in their game, it's so abusable

He might be going for the Jake mask, which requires sacrificing a certain number of Jakes. According to a bunch of players on the forum, it's the most difficult Leatherface mask to get because there aren't nearly as many Jakes as there are Dwights, Claudettes, and Megs. No joke, Leatherfaces are kinda infamous for tunneling Jakes for that very reason.

I think it does. The one who initially was toxic deserves toxicity back. But it has to be obvious that someone was acting 'toxic'. Camping when the gates are powered is not toxic. Tbagging is toxic no matter what.

Nah, toxic people want you to take the bait; being toxic back reinforces the behavior, either because they wanted the attention in the first place or because you're confirming their belief that all ______ are toxic. They hate it if you shrug it off and don't care. And tbagging isn't necessarily toxic, survivors can use it to say hello or thanks or as a tactic to try to bait the killer into a chase (I never chase the tbaggers or flashlight clickers, don't fall for the designated distraction). I've had survivors disconnect because I didn't take the bait and chase them, which tells me I'm doing something right lol.

I mean, you can handle it however you want, obviously. But like I said, it reinforces the behavior and creates an endless cycle, which is just... exhausting.

  • I saw an ad or whatever for the mobile game and it showed the survivor bots doing gens and making saves... I was just like "ohmigod teammates doing the objective where have you been all my life???" ... but sadly that's only on mobile.

iirc most of the devs play at very low ranks if they play at all. There's no reason for me to believe they are a better balance source when they have shown quite the opposite, especially recently. This BL test was probably one of the best steps they've taken in a while because they gave the testing to the community instead of relying on themselves and making probably another bad call. Now what they'll do with the info is another story that we'll have to wait and see.

Beyond just the ranks they play at, history has shown that in many ways they don't understand their own game. That DS, Mettle of Man, and Dying Light made it to the live game, and the fact that DS and Dying Light stayed as they were for so ridiculously long, are proof.

With four men on comms it's fkn EASY to break a 3 gen. All jump to a gen simulataniously, which gen should the killer protect then, tell me? As soon as he is facing one, the other two gens get done a bit. Knowing he will not chase you for long works in your favor, too, bc you likely won't get injured and do not have to heal. No killer can keep a three gen against four coordinated survivors forever, the last gen will be done eventually.

Like I said, he and his team had options, they just didn't like those options and were too afraid of getting downed to take the necessary risks. He just keeps repeating himself. Hopefully other survivors will read this and get some ideas of how to better handle the situation than his team did, or maybe best of all they'll see how important it is not to let themselves get three-genned.

Oh, we touched them initially, but as soon as he came he wouldn't chase after we left the 3 gen area .

Yes, you keep repeating yourself. Again, the killer is not obligated to leave the area to give you a free generator, but that is exactly what you are saying he should have done. You didn't want to give him a "free down," he doesn't want to give you a free gen. One costs less than the other, and that is the down, because that is not a loss for the entire team and it keeps the killer busy at least for a time. One side had more they could sacrifice than the other side, and that was the survivors. But again, you were all too afraid of the killer. Your transparent attempts to get him away from the gens didn't work. How you guys didn't get so bored that you at least YOLO'd it is beyond me, because at least there's some fun to be had in that even if you do die.

Without seeing the match, no one on the forums can give you an in-depth answer about who did what wrong. At best this was a stalemate, and at worst it was the survivors holding the killer hostage. Again, unless it's a Doc who can literally stop you from doing the gens without downing you but by putting you in Madness tier 3, then you have options, you just didn't like those options. The game doesn't need more gens, it needs more structure and/or a timer so the match can't go on for an hour for no good reason.

  • Skilled Huntress (at least on PS4, where it still requires 100). That's the only one I have left to do. Following that, I'd say Evil Incarnate.

  • @JoeyBob said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1773105#Comment_1773105

And the killer refused to chase us. Can't do gens if he's camping them.

Unless the killer is a Doc who keeps putting you in Madness tier 3 while refusing to down or hook you, that is not true. There are multiple survivors left, so one may need to take one for the team while the others attempt to get a gen done. Instead, you want the killer to sacrifice a gen, of which only one is left. If you refuse to touch gens because you're all too afraid of the killer, then you are not even trying.

It makes sense to HAVE perks for core mechanics. But the number of perks for one core mechanic that we have right now, that's just ridiculous. For example, we have two perks for anti-gen tapping (Overcharge & Hex: Ruin), only that is already ridiculous.

Well, to be fair, Overcharge and Ruin have different weaknesses. Overcharge is better at the lower ranks where the killer has enough time to kick gens and the survivors haven't yet learned to hit skill checks; if the survivors can hit the skill checks, the perk does nothing more than waste the killer's own time. Ruin is good on killers that can pressure gens but useless on killers who can't, plus it's a hex perk which is very risky as it could be cleansed in the first thirty seconds of the match.

Since gens are the survivor's main objective, it makes sense that so many perks would be generator-related. Unfortunately, the perks are also there as a band-aid because gens can pop so quickly, but with killers all being different strengths it's difficult to change gens at their core in a way that won't make already strong killers even stronger.

Really annoying, especially because they be like "It'S nOt BaIt" and sooo many people fall for them.

Unfortunately, even if the original poster doesn't mean what they say, new players may read it and think it's serious. Giving a solid answer isn't necessarily for the original poster's benefit but for anyone uninformed enough to agree with them.

Also, sometimes it's fun to see just how much you can get someone to contradict themselves or look like an ass while trying to defend something that's obviously total bull. I've gotten some great responses where someone made a bad opinion look even worse.

But getting worked up about it or outright arguing, especially past the point of it being an amusing distraction, is a waste of energy and makes the problem grow.

  • Definitely against penalties for dodging, especially now that killers are locked once they queue up. If you're a Hag or Wraith and see 4 flashlights, your best options are to either dodge the lobby or AFK during the match. Plus, you damn well should dodge a lobby if the ping is bad, that's why it shows the ping in the first place.

I don't usually care enough to dodge. I'll dodge if I see "TTV" or "YT" in a player's name. If I see three Claudettes in a lobby and then the fourth survivor changes from whatever they were to a Claudette, I ditch the lobby, that crap ain't cute. I mean, it's not uncommon for me to ditch a lobby if all four survivors are the same character, anyway. Last time I played with four Megs, I hooked one, then couldn't remember which one I hooked so I just went AFK. I've even had matches where two were Lauries and I got frustrated because I couldn't remember who I'd just hooked.

As survivor, I may ditch if there are two Claudettes. I will definitely absolutely every time ditch as survivor if there are three Claudettes.

  • Surveillance is super helpful. You might be amazed at how quickly survivors may return to a gen. Also, Brute Strength. Corrupt will give you fewer gens you have to patrol at the beginning, but some survivors will just wait Corrupt out. Pop is good, makes kicking gens mean something if you don't want to throw the match.

    Obviously, don't run Ruin.
