Its simple. Spirit has a strong chase power, wraith doesnt. Spirit can get a hit on almost every tile, while wraiths cannot get to you and need to break a lot of pallets to hit you.
If you play against weak players, it doesnt matter. You dont need a good chase power, if the survivor cant loop. So wraith seems better.
-
I mean its a information perk, which rarely gives you information and this information is most of the time useless.
This is obvious if you look what insane buffs you could do and still nobody would run it. You could:
- add a 10sec aura read
- 10 sec oblivious effect
- 30 sec exposed status
All of this together would make this perk really strong with franklins. But only one of this buffs would be fine for this perk.

More like people abusing the sbmm metric to play specifically towards losing mmr so average players have to play against more experienced players who just want easy matches again
@Crowman said:
Considering that people abusing the matchmaking system by having a low rank person in their swf to get matched against lower ranked killers was a thing, you are highly underestimating the desire for people to have easy games is.
No invisible mmr stops the afk killer from deranking. Or the survivor from suiciding, creating a smurf. People will abuse the MMR for easier matches without knowing their rating, some are doing it even right now. So the rating doesnt really matter in this regard.
The only problem with knowing this metrics, is the opposite. For example if for some reason, a metric would say a good killer keeps everyone injured and this would give you a lot of mmr, suddenly sloppy would be top meta. And the devs want different playstyles: hit-and-run, tunneling, camping, 3gen, find-chase-hook-repeat, etc.

That's less necessary while your on gens
Are you joking? Its really important to look around while on a gen. Always look where the killer is and its useful to see other survivor, too.
It gets even more crucial if the killer is undetectable, has a low terror radius, is a fast moving killer, has long range attacks or he has perks/addons, which give him undetectable etc.
So if you want to be atleast a decent survivor, look around you.

I believe they're doing it so players can't figure out how to manipulate their MMR to bully less skilled players. Some people believe it's because they haven't actually made a new system, and it's all a placebo.
No, that makes no sense. You always know how to downrank (afk, etc). There are other games with invisible mmr and people just were afk or just moved their character (to avoid afk disconnect). Its more about the optimal way to play the game. The devs think if everyone knows how to gain mmr the best, everyone would play like that. And they have often stated that they want to see different playstyles.
-
Grades have nothing to do with MMR.
-
So less survivor would cleanse and plague would be more of a M1-killer?
-
Who cares, if its gone? It was stupid anyway, if there were two lockers near each other. There are many more interesting flashlight saves.
-
Yh a lot of new players think this way. But its not true. He is an average killer and needs his speed for map pressure bc he has a weak chase power. Uncloaking and cloaking are not to fast. If his uncloaking would be slower it would defeat his purpose of an ambush killer. If you hear the bell, you shouldnt be able to react most of the time. Try to spot him earlier or anticipate where he could be, if theres a los-blocker.

Mainly certain challenges like unhooks or hatch escapes. As for MMR some might throw to get easier killers so they can have fun in the chase
Yh some will throw, smurf etc. But that has nothing to do with rewards or a visible rank. Rewards would even be a good countermeasure.
People dont downrank bc they see they have a high MMR. They downrank if they dont want a hard match. And you dont need to see your rating to downrank. Being afk or playing bad is no science.

The opposite. People would intentionally drop so they stomp people.
So you mean anyone needs to see their rating to drop it? I think everyone is smart enough to know how to lose. Just be afk or dont hit survivor and you get easier matches.
-
Its based on the emblems. So wait for the rank reset and you get easy adepts.

"Here is a saying that still exists a year from today:
make sure you're never near a hook when a save happens because they'll have BT,"
This saying is even now outdated, bc it doesnt matter if you are near the hook. They will always have BT. And if you just want to hit the rescuer, they will bodyblock.

You said: "Not to mention that gaming skill isn't something one should ever boast about to begin with."
So i wanted to know whether you think you should never boast with any skill or its only the case for gaming skill. So i wanted to know how you think about boosting with your chess/football skill etc (two random examples). Do you think gaming skill is worse than other skills?

2 things:
1) I dislike how this game has one button to do 20 different actions. Some of which, can overlap with each other (like what happened to you here, or a gen/locker near a window. MnK have tons of options and there are two buttons on controllers that are not used on console. Oh- and the d-pad’s left & right.
2) I wonder if you weren’t already on top of it when the DC occurred, if it would have allowed you to enter with the correct button prompt afterwards? That shouldn’t matter though, just goes back to what I was saying above.
Atleast we can change some. I have now one for healing, repairing etc and another for pallet dropping, vaulting etc.

Ok, to make it completely clear: Addons dont matter in the MMR-calculation. That was just your fourth point. I just shortened it bc it was a post about your four points. After the colon is my opinion. I really would prefer i you ask me something about that and not about semantics.

Add-ons do matter.
You can't tell me a All-Seeing Silent Bell Wraith is the same strength as a no add-on Wraith.
Addons dont matter for the matchmaking. Thats your fourth point.
-
What is your opinion on the MMR, Sluzzy? Tomorrow you dont need to play against strong killer anymore.
-
Just crawl away from the hook, while the killer has the attack cooldown.
-
Win condition: would be nice, but im fine with playing for 4k/3ks with Hatch.
Visible ranking: we need one. 100%. I think without one i will quit after 2 chapter. I want to have a goal.
Killer: they really need to speed up their work pace. Significant changes every big patch. Use the data from the MMR.
Addons etc dont matter: its ok, but they should nerf outlier like they did before (iridescent head). Buff weak things like almost 70% of the perks. But the most important part is that every busted map needs to be toned down. Rework map rng, some tile combos are just broken.

People say NOED cultivates bad habits on killers but I think over reliance on Tinker / Ruin / Undying is far worse.
You're REALLY putting all of your eggs in one basket with Ruin Undying and Tinkerer is really good but kind of bad when it goes off ×3 and you can only go to one generator.
Personally I run Tinkerer for the undetectable status effect more than anything. Otherwise I like to use Discordance because Prove Thyself is rampant and finding 2 or more survivors on a gen is a goldmine.
The funny thing is that discordance is one of the best perks to use with undying/ruin/tinkerer. Like you said probe thyself is common and most of the time you cant stop a gen with tinkerer, when two survivor are on it. Even without prove thyself its hard. So discordance is the perfect perk to counter this.
But discordance works certainly great alone. Most of the time you find two survivors at the start of the game, you can keep track of the entire team better and it helps you to find the survivor you want to chase.

It literally doesn't matter, the entire point of MMR is to put people into trials with opponents who could potentially win.
And besides, Otz wa smaking zero sense in that video. He kept going on about how MMR will make people play sweatier in order to increase it... Except that it's completely invisible, has no reward for increasing it, and no possible bragging rights because of a lack of verification. He doesn't seem to be thinking too clearly on the issue.
I think he says they will play sweatier bc he had this experience in the MMR-test. But we will see soon what the effect really is.
I personally want to see the rating and i dont care if its sweaty. Right now i would even prefer it over the noobstomping. But maybe i will get sick of it.

There is a BP reward (250k BP for the highest grade) for survivor and one for killer. Grades have nothing to do with skill.

Whats this "tech" stuff people speak of. I am out of the loop on this lingo.
I dont know the exact definition, but you could say tech are tricks.
For example the CJ Tech: a pallet is dropped. At one side is the killer and a downed survivor, on the other side is a survivor with a flashlight. If the killer tries to break the pallet, but the flashlight survivor slides over it, the killer picks up the downed survivor instead bc its impossible to break the pallet, now the survivor can vault back and get an flashlight save.
If you search for DBD tech, you should find a list with many techs.
-
@ThiccBudhha said:
I think you can fast vault from stationary if you are directly in front of it.

addons can bring you up to around rank 3-4 by themselves. Around that point people start playing optimally, and even incredibly busted stuff such as Mother Daughter+Yakuyoke Spirit or BNP+Key won't be enough on their own. Crossing the last threshold requires you to use every last drop of your kit and abilities with utmost efficiency.
Im a little confused. Do you talk about the old emblem system (bc you mentioned rank 3-4) or about the MMR-system?

Couldn't agree more with this. If some people use builds that carry them to a degree, then it's arguably good they have their skill rating increased, so they face survivors that are good enough to deal with them and their builds.
It's not like people are going to be able to boast with their skill rating, as it's not even shown to the player. Not to mention that gaming skill isn't something one should ever boast about to begin with.
My opinion is that you never should boost with anything, but do you care to explain whats the difference between gaming skill and chess, football etc. ?
-
@MarcoPoloYolo said:
Map offerings are the biggest offender. Given the wide disparity on how maps play out, picking a good map for yourself as much as you can obviously will skew the system.
Now, when it comes to add-ons, items, and perks, I feel "carry" is a bogus term. The high end-level of any game will be filled with pretty much nothing but the meta. The meta doesn't carry you to high-end level, meta is the entryway to high level. Your performance with the meta will dictate how far you actually can go. That being said, when it comes to rare and powerful items and add-ons, stockpiling them can carry you for a time since it's not normal performance.
Maps are really an important part. But even without offerings, they are in play. So an in theory fair matchup gets unfair bc an onesided map gets randomly chosen.
So i think they will need to revisit some maps anyway, if they want the mmr to work correctly. But i guess with this amount of maps, some unbalanced have not much impact on the data.
-
@BabuDweet said:
Well both sides can be carried by certain mechanics and things they bring into the match.
As killer, I main huntress at rank one and I never bring addons for her. Also don't bring ruin/undying, it's boring.
As survivor I never bring any items in and try to avoid the more typical survivor build.
I see a lot of killers bring meta ######### but in chase they really aren't the best but they can be carried by them perks.
Same with survivor, I witness survivors bring meta perks that give them their second chances and still go down pretty fast.
So yeah I do think by using certain perks, addons and items that it can affect how far someone can climb the ranks, or well the grading system now. Certain people won't be in grades they truly belong in.
I think so, too.
Fyi: The grades have nothing to do with your rating. Everyone can reach the highest grade bc its just depends on playtime.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
Survivors in particular can be carried by a number of things, items. Perks, team mates skill, killer skill even pure luck to an extent.
At some point though skill will almost always rise to the top.
I play all survivors using only their perks on a regular basis (no items) & have an escape rate of between 60 & 70% (elodie is currently winning that battle which was a big surprise to me personally.
I also play as a meg main running dark sense, kindred, spine chill & small game usually with a med kit & again have a similar escape rate i'll have a bad run every now and again or a really good one but my level is pretty consistent regardless of anything else & until I took a couple of months off & dropped down the rankings I was almost always red ranks.
I woulf be interested how do you manage this escape rate? Arent there unwinnable matches bc of your teammates? Do you play mainly swf or need to use the hatch often? Or what is your strategy with bad teammates? Taking aggro works only for me if the killer wants me to die and i dont want to bm to accomplish that.
-
@Carth said:
Arguably everything outside of base mechanics for both killer and survivor carry. 8 stacks of STBFL might mean the difference between a game wining vault or not. A toolbox with BNP can mean completing the last gen before the killer with pop active comes over and removes 25% of it. I guess it really boils down to would you consider things like the above in need of a nerf? What do you personally feel the strength level of addons and perks should be
Thats why i brought up the example about the 5/10 player against the 9/10. And the question is specific about reaching high level bc i dont think noobstomping things are really important. (For example dont nerf doctor bc beginner are screwed without stealth)
So how much can the equipment help you to reach high level in your opinion? And is it a bad thing?

I don't know if that's just his own speculation or if they said so directly but that's only half of the question anyways
The thing is there is no right answer. Take the average and people will abuse that, take the highest and they will have no fun.
Scenario highest: i have seen people use smurfs to play with their friends bc otherwise they dont want to play together. Or new people quitting when their experienced friend showed them the game.
Average is probably more fun without ill intent, but thats DbD. Focussing the weak link or triggering the killer as strongest survivor are common tactics.
So honestly i couldnt care less.
Edit: i dont think it was his speculation.

I think Otzdarva said that he knows that it will use the average. Dont know whether its stated in a blogpost or the devs did tell him.

@fogdonkey said:
I don't understand why it is a problem.
There is no race to get the highest MMR... If you have higher MMR only because of better perk choice, stronger add-ons or items, so be it. That's your playstyle.
Let me know why you think it is a problem... even Otzdarva didn't really explain why it is a problem.
I think its only a problem if this strong things create an unfun game. For example keys let you skip, in my opinion, the most fun part of the game. It would be still a 2k like against more experienced survivor, but the match without the key is more fun.

It takes away potential interest which is pretty important. A lot of people in this thread didn't bother to even read or look at the rest of his post after seeing the 700 wins. When I first read the post I had no interest with the tips or experience he had and only wanted more info about the streak. Had the 700 win thing not been there I feel a lot more people would have taken a deeper interest in his Hag tips which is what OP wanted in the first place.
As you said, a lot of people don't even know about Hags existence so any post to garner more interest in her is nice. It just feels like a waste since so many people aren't going to bother to read it or acknowledge the info after seeing the 700 win streak comment as you can already see with some of the posts in this thread. I just think it's a shame.
I think we're going to have to agree to disagree with the Dark Souls thing. I've got around 1600 hours in dbd and maybe a 150 in DS2 (which granted isn't a lot for either game) and I feel like doing a hitless run would be a lot easier and more consistent then doing a 700 win streak. It'd be more nerve racking on a constant basis due to the length but I also feel it'd be more consistent at a certain level. With DBD it'd be more luck then skill (though still a lot of skill needed) at that point.
I've really only watched Otz's few videos he has of the DS2 runs and some of his streak challenges live and I just can't see DS2 hitless being harder. I just might not have enough experience in either game to have a proper opinion but going from what I've seen of his videos and my own time in the games, I just can't see it.
Maybe i just overestimate Otz in DS2 and its a lot easier for other people. I never played the game myself. But i never can see me doing such things, while 700 wins seem possible for me. Every time i lose with hag its my fault. And i still have a winrate over 90%. Even against old object teams i won consistently. I got only one team in 3 years of DbD, which really countered hag. Granted, i dont play her much anymore, so its more like 2 years, but i have atleast around 1000 matches with her. So if i would play consistently, learn hag more and had enough luck to not get the 1% sweat team, i could get this. I would need to use the time of the day, where i have a chance with trickster without throwing knives at red rank, to have the lowest chance possible for a sweat team.
700 wins are around 120 hours and you are not allowed to lose a match. But you can make mistakes and you can decide matches in four minutes against the average team. So you dont need to be fully concentrated. But maybe i dont care about it so much, bc its a feat of luck and DS2 No Hit is a feat of skill.
For the point with the information. I think without 700 wins most would have never read this post. Nobody wants to play hag, cares about hag or wants to learn counterplay. Otherwise there are plenty of options to get this information without this post. 700 wins have atleast the chance to spark some interest.

I was saying who cares if it's true in relation to the reason why he posted it in the first place since he only wanted to show tips and experiences with Hag. Of course people will care after reading such a claim so it takes away from what he was trying to do.
The claim of 700 wins is also the biggest in DBD history. As far as I know I don't think another killer streak even comes close which would make this guy some DBD Legend. There was one with 200 on Twins and I saw a Nurse one with 185. If you know any that's higher I'd be curious to see them.
You're short-selling the claim IMO. I think it'd be a ton easier to no hit a dark souls game then it would be to get a 700 win streak on any killer. Hell, Otz has an all bosses no-hit DS2 run and he struggles at times to get even 50 wins playing as sweaty as he can.
Edit: I forgot his streaks were addonless so it takes away from my point a bit but even with add-ons I don't think he'd be able to get even close to 700.
A 700 win streak is not only a huge sign of skill an ability but also of astronomical good luck. It's way more interesting to talk about then any random Hag tips and tricks so asking for proof or even some minor gameplay is warranted. The fact OP refuses makes it seem like they're lying and that in turn also takes away from the tips and experiences they posted.
It doesnt take away anything from the tips he posted. Why? Bc none of those tips is new. Its stuff, which everybody who plays hag on a decent level knows and you find the same tips in every hag guide, most of the time in the beginner section. Most guides are far more detailed, too.
The sad part is that there are so many players, who dont know this things. Not many play hag, but as experienced survivor you should also know this things. This lack of understanding is the part, which makes hag suited best for such a long winstreak among all strong killer.
Lets take Otz as example. He said that Hag was the easiest winstreak. He didnt even try, used meme builds, no perks and he lost it over 50 on purpose. Addons make it easier and have you any idea how helpful map offerings are?
If you would have watched Otz in his DS2-time, you would know that every winstreak, even the Nemesis, which was one of the hardest, was a joke compared to DS No-Hit. It took forever and if you only watch the two videos, you will see how frustrating it was. 700 is a lot longer, but its not really high concentration the entire time. The Nemesis streak shows also the best strategy to get a high winstreak. Otz failed so many times, but why did he get it suddenly? He used something against streamsniper, but the important thing was that he changed when he played. Later in his streams the opponents got suddenly weaker. If you use that, its makes it a lot easier to win consistently. And if you only play 2 matches per day its possible. Otz plays 700 matches in less than a month.

Who cares if it's true? You don't have proof and are unwilling to try to so why did you bring it up at all when it would only hurt what you're trying to accomplish? How many people do you truly think would take the post seriously after reading such a claim. Not in pity since most people are calling you out but in genuine interest for Hag. Certainly not many.
I really want to believe you mean well and are not just trolling but your responses are completely nonsensical. You had something really nice here and you just spat all over it because of that claim. It just feels like such a waste since most people don't give Hag the time of day.
You guys are funny. You asking who cares if its true, when you care about. So theres your answer.
You and others make it seem like he boosted with the 700 wins as if he had found the cure for cancer. But he never boosted with it and he certainly shouldnt. 700 wins is impressive, but not a sign for skill. More a sign of impressive luck or exploiting the broken matchmaking. Dont get me wrong, you still need to be good, but thats it. Its nothing compared with no hit runs in DS, its even less a sign of skill then reaching the highest rank in Apex, LoL etc.
So why would anyone care about this anecdote before the information?
-
One of the reason is that even with it clown is not S-tier.
The other one is that almost nobody runs it.
