  • I've never once in all my time been held hostage by a killer, nor have I ever blocked in a survivor for longer than it takes to fully land a special. I feel like that is a problem with such a low incidence that it probably isn't worth addressing with manpower. And even it it were addressed, I'd bet for sure that it would lead to survs' bodyblocking for each other failing to work consistently (or at all), so replacing a small headache with large one.

I have been sandbagged/blocked by other survs on innumerable occasions, though. That is a much more prevalent issue, I'd think.

Comon dude it's pretty funny because it normally results in your death, I never understood how you can play this game so seriously

I don't play it that seriously, I'm not some kind of MMR chasing sweatlord. But like 95% of the time I also don't feel like straight up clowning around, or spending 10-15 minutes of my day being the comic foil for a SWF that decided that's what they wanted to do.

Even if you're not offended by it, it's usually just wasting the killer's time.

  • Just because the team isn't trying to "win" doesn't make it innocent and/or good natured. Let's be real here, what many/most of them likely want to do is make the killer look inept/foolish. For the killer, that is often a whole lot less palatable than straight up losing. People generally don't much care for being made into an object of amusement for someone else.

I say if a squad wants to just "mess around" like that, let them do it in a KYF setup. Simple. In random matchmaking, always assume the other side wants an actual game.

Again, we have a scenario where so long as the survs are having fun, all is good to them, even if it's a crap sandwich for the killer. I don't get hurt by it, but it's annoying af, and for many people it feels like straight up disrespect. At the very least, it's a near total waste of the killer's time.

  • Dead Hard, but barely.

After some thought, I think might rather see these hated perks just nerfed into the ground, rendered utterly useless wastes of perk slots, only existing to be mocked and only used by wretches who can't let them go.

Make Dead Hard useable only once per match, remove the dash. Make CoH like 75% the speed of Self Care. Make NOED deactivate after the first exposed hit.

ImHexyAndINoed is freaking great. Just the right amount of cheese.

  • You love/hate to see it. I've had players still macro clicking me when I'm on 7 or 8 hooks with 3 or 4 gens left, and no chase has lasted longer than 15-20 seconds. It's like, do you not see what is happening here? You gonna stick with that?

Probably the types that go GG EZ after getting wrecked, too. It's dedication to the bit, I guess.

  • The odds of seeing four head ons and 2 flashlights in the same group and them not being a bully squad is pretty damned low

My favorite is when you get a group all hopped up on Ayrun videos and trying to bully, except they suck at it and you stomp them

  • Badham and Coldwind. Seriously, to hell with that corn and open space.

Haddonfield, though I am curious to see how it will have changed.

Nurse needs to be hard to play considering just how strong she is.

She is, relative to other killers. I think most nurses are really bad, tbh. Players who put enough time into learning her can be oppressive, but most don't.

If I had to rank the top 10 easiest games I've had as a surv, I'd bet all of them would be versus a Nurse. If you run into a player who is just learning Nurse, it's usually a pitiable display to watch.

Conversely, the same would probably be true of the top 10 times my team got absolutely stomped. The SupaAlf type Nurses are easily the most oppressive killers to go against. Not much to be done, unless you're a god tier surv.

For survivor I'm in agreement. Minus a couple binding issues I feel like controller suits survivor better. I like to do slow walks, as far as I knowyou cant do that on PC

Yeah. It's also easier to hug walls/corners when running, imo. I actually bought a nice PC controller just for DBD survivor play.

  • Controller's really not so bad outside of a few killers (projectile killers - aiming with a stick just can't compare to mouse) and it's waaay easier to get spun when using a controller.

For survivor I actually prefer the controller. I don't want to start a war, but imo analog movement > digital, all day (in DBD, where strafing isn't really ever needed). Button binding is essential, though, as by default the same buttons are bound to multiple commands, which can lead to frustration (and unintentional hilarity).

Like anything else, it's really about being comfortable with it. JRM put out a vid yesterday where he plays with a controller, and it was hilarious.

  • Grind reduction

Prestige actually worth spending BP on

    Cross progression

    Blocking flashlight macros

Assurance that FNAF isn't coming to DBD

    Map balancing

    Buffs to bottom tier killers

Dead Hard erased from existence and memory

    Increased DC penalties

  • David always looks like a variation of a braindead meathead goober, a man who you would want on your side in a fight, but wouldn't trust to tie his own shoes. Which I suppose is exactly what he is supposed to be.

Feng looks worse, but not significantly different. Elodie looks...wrong.

Claudette looks better than ever, though.

Imagine if Survivor POV was first-person. I would ######### myself every match.

First person surv POV might legit kill people.

  • Other then BP offerings, I only burn map offerings, and then only on the occasions where I feel like I'm getting a bunch of the same maps over and over and want to break out of it. Or maybe a black ward if I am low on rare add-ons.

Most of the others just aren't worth the button presses, save for Moris, which are really more just for flourish, and I like to hoard them.

Which really gets back the grind; I have thousands of these things that are utterly useless, yet cost a huge chunk of BP.

A really good scratched mirror Myers is probably the closest thing to truly scary this game gets. Sadako (properly executed) is up there, but going against a really good SM Myers puts the anxiety in you.

The stealth killers are really the most fun to face, imo.

Wym? You don't get BPs from the shrine, you spend shards to unlock perks....

If you buy a perk you already own in the shrine, you get a 150K BP payout, so basically trading 2K shards for 150K BP.

  • @MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:

I have to be honest, they are probably the most useless thing in the whole game, either buy skins or perks, tbh, perks give bps which in itself, sounds nice but I can have the same amount in about 2-3 games and skins well, not that much interesting, sadly, can we do more with them please?

I think they're fine, though I think we should get more of them.

IIRC, they were implemented as a way to reward players with the ability get what would otherwise be paid content (cosmetics) for a playing a lot. For that purpose it works well enough, but I think more would be nice.

One iri shard related idea I have is to give a bunch of them for prestiging, since the current prestige system is...uninspiring.

I do agree that the exchange rate in the Shrine sucks, there's no way I would trade 2000 shards for 150K bloodpoints. 150K is nothing. It might take me a week to run up 2K shards, I can get 150K BP in 30-60 minutes.

I honestly think 1 million BP would be totally fair there.

It does suck, I have over 4k hours and every killer P3 lvl 50. I just moved a few weeks ago and my new internet has been acting up. They sent a tech out and it's still doing this. It's just annoying because it's the only game that actually kicks me when the hiccups happen and I wish I could just hop right back in the matches.

This might be a noob level question, but are you hardwired or on WiFi?

I recently moved (well, like 6 months ago), and have the best residential internet package available where I live, but was getting booted from (only DBD) matches on my PC which was connected via Wifi (because it was relatively far away from the modem/router), but that resolved after I ran ethernet to it.

Also in the past, I had a run of frequent DCs in DbD due to a bad cable, which abated when I replaced it.

  • Not being able to play a game you bought feels crappy, but also reality doesn't conform to the way you feel it should just because.

Getting booted and then being allowed to re-join sounds simple, but there's a lot of variables there. How long will be you be DC'ed for? What is going on for the other four players while the game waits for you to re-join? Should they just be frozen? Where do you cut off the reconnection window? It might be consistent for you but not for others, and all that would have to be taken into account when implementing a solution, and if there isn't a consistency there, it's probably not feasible.

In order to justify assigning manpower to a problem, said problem has to be widespread enough to justify it.

The unfortunate reality is that if your internet is chronically unstable, you're probably just screwed here. Feels bad I'm sure, but this is simply the reality for a few unfortunate people. Might just need to accept it and move on.

The art team is almost always on point, and the images look awesome. The real questions are will they make it so Balanced Landing isn't abuseable here, and will they put breaks in the 10 mile long fences/hedges.

And of course nerf the house of pain.

  • Yeah, but can you see her belly button? No one is asking the important questions

  • Sometimes I'm like "hey, I haven had a game on Haddonfield for a while", then I remember. I also still have that thought about Hawkins, which I actually miss.

That said, Haddonfield was an abomination to play as killer, and I have hope the rework will make it a map worth of its origins.

  • It really is, but I can't stand looking at her face when she is moving; dangling/detached/missing jaws/mandibles are one of very few horror images that I find deeply unsettling, even after being desensitized by decades of constantly watching horror movies.

Which I suppose is the point, and part of what makes it cool.

  • Basically anything that makes a player deviate from their plan or otherwise counters their expectations is fair game for being called boring.

It could be the most electrifying play anyone has ever seen ever seen, but if it doesn't conform to someone else's expectations, it's boring. Or toxic. Or something.

It's difficult because of course not everyone will feel the same and won't want to purchase all their characters again.

True, but for me the more oppressive part is gaining all the levels, cosmetics (even just the ones earned via gameplay would be huge), and perks again. Relative to the investment of thousands of hours, the monetary cost of new characters is not really a big deal. Especially if you consider you can earn the original characters with iri shards.

I understand that this issue has a lot of nuance/complexity, in part due to platforms not wanting to lose out on their cut of sales (and I'm sure to factors that aren't readily apparent), but I don't see why it has to be all or nothing.

I see the same sort of thinking with the suggestion people have for implementing a practice mode. In the Q&A it was said that they don't want to do it until they can make it just right (optimizing bots for each killer, etc.), but really people just want anything they can get, and hearing that something won't be addressed unless it can be addressed comprehensively is really frustrating.

I recently bought the PC version of DBD (and all the paid characters) after putting in 1700+ hours on PS, but I just feel a bit despaired at the prospect of having to earn everything again.

I think that if nothing can really be done for any of it, a more detailed explanation as to why might help people accept it.

  • Man, that's pretty bad. I hate camping, but I gotta say I actually don't get camped all the often (maybe like 1 game out of 20 I'll get really camped).

Of course my personal definition of camping is pretty forgiving (unless the killer hangs out within a 5-10 meter radius I don't really consider it camping).

If you are getting face camped that frequently, I feel for you. I might stop playing surv for a while.

  • I played as Spirit for the first time in a while last night and had 3 DCs in two matches, all at the beginning. Like, really? She's not even remotely OP anymore.

I had to use Bubba the other night for a daily and in one match I had 2 DC's the first time they heard the chainsaw.

Not in this game, because it only reduces the gameplay diversity for one, the better you are, the less you can do, playing in strict way just to win is pretty unfun.

I think playing at low MMR while actually being on-par with low MMR survivors are the most fun way to play this game, playing at low MMR while being somewhat good is second, and playing at high MMR is not fun regardless of your skill.

Yes, the game at top level is insanely boring, and totally formulaic. Tournament play is mind numbing to watch, I can't imagine playing that way and enjoying it.

It's the same few killers and survivors running the same perks and all playing the exact same way, but at maximum sweat. It is not inspiring. Using a current comparison for example, I do not feel the same way abut PvP in the Soulsborne games. That tends to get more interesting as you scale up in skill. DBD doesn't, it just gets tedious.

I don't play at low MMR (I am pretty sure, I think), but I would rather play at the low end than the high end.

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/314268/fix-tunneling-meta

    A few things from a killer's perspective.

    • I try not to tunnel people too much, but if you run directly into me I'm not going to pass you up. Ditto if someone I'm chasing runs to you and unhooks you in my face.
    • It's not my responsibility to distribute damage evenly. It's up to your team to protect you and you to evade better.
    • Tunneling straight off hook is basically facecamping, and BHVR are working on a mechanical change to the game to eliminate this. It was in the internal testing phase last we heard.
    • Killers are under at least some pressure to win, in that nobody likes being gloated at and survivors tend to be incredibly mean if they manage to 4-out. I'd rather be complained at than be gloated at.
    • If you're facing 2000 hour monsters as a brand new player, either the SBMM system pooped itself after a long queue or a lobby dodge, your MMR is so volatile it has no idea where to put you, you are better than you think or you're running into smurfs.

That all said - as a killer, getting someone out of the game early is just...sort of how this game is played at higher MMRs. If you try to be a 12 hooker, you end up being as bitter as a streamer I won't name. If the game gets to 1 gen left and everyone is still alive, I'm probably going to lose and get teabagged all the way to the exit gates, unless I'm sitting on the fattest NOED+NWO in the world.

By all means though - try the killer role a bit yourself. You'll see what I mean.

I am convinced that like 75% of survivors have never played killer (or have like an hour or two of time in killer), and honestly, truly believe that they are being tunneled even when they aren't.

And the ugly truth is that sometimes you get killed faster than your teammates simply because you're not nearly as good, and are repeatedly dangling out there like a carrot for the killer. I don't know how many times I have been talking at my screen telling the surv on death hook (while the rest of the team has only been hooked once or not at all) to stay away from me. Like c'mon, man.

But sometimes the tallest nail gets pounded.

  • @Cetren said:

Easy fix to tunneling - nerf COH and making switching targets viable again.

There is not fix for tunneling. Nerfing CoH would reduce it, but there is no nerf, perk or otherwise that will stop a person determined to tunnel from doing so. Not without being stupid OP, anyway.

  • @Lucent said:

Why would they reduce anything that encourages people to play more from their perspective?

People's playtime doesn't benefit them at all (which is why protests where people stop playing are useless), people buying stuff with actual money does.

And even if it did, I would bet the grind discourages people from playing as much as it encourages it. The state of the grind makes the game feel inaccessible to many, especially newcomers.

There are a lot of videos out there laying out her attributes, I'm not going to go into it again. I have fun playing as her, and I'm not getting wrecked out there even against decent teams. I dunno. I do it almost every game and I win most of them. You can watch Pro Vengeance camp/tunnel his way to 50+ winstreaks all the time. That's actually who I learned how to do it from.

I don't watch Otz but I refuse to believe he got those streaks playing for 12 hooks. You know he 100% "confirmed" some kills or was apologizing profusely to the survivor mains on his channel as he tunneled some people to win.

And we can agree to disagree. When I check my lobby and it's your usual bully SWF with 16x meta perks trying to finish all the gens in 4 minutes and then teabag and talk smack in the endgame chat. No, I don't feel bad about it. Not in the slightest. You won't ever win those games doing anything else unless you are spamming Nurse 24/7.

Playing nice at my MMR? You get the Truetalent experience when he tried to play nice against that tourny squad. Getting slapped and 4 man outed with 2-3 hooks lmao.

And really I don't mind doing it at all and honestly enjoy killing people first hook when I can, especially in the basement for the thematic part of it. That's just called efficiency.

Not to derail, but I don't think Otz ever claimed to go for 12 hooks all the time. That I think is more Trutalent's position, and they famously debated about it.

Tru likes to sanctimoniously preach about the 12 hook thing, but generally does poorly in challenges. I do not subscribe to the notion that killers should always strive for a nice even distribution of hooks, but I also will go a little out of my way not to drum people out of the game straight out of the gate.

And I have zero desire to play at top MMR, but those who do seem to play with a combination of camping and tunneling, I am more talking about dedicated camping being ineffective. Like I am going to find one surv, hook them and facecamp them to death and then do the same to the next sort of camping.

And I don't face as many sweaty bully squads because I will throw a few matches to lower my MMR when I start running into them with any sort of frequency. I don't play DBD to sweat (there are games I play with intensity, this is not one of them), I play for fun.

And tourney DBD is just horrible, imo. The least compelling version, imo.

Also, I take your word that you do well, but out of genuine curiosity, how does it go when you hook/camp someone and the rest of the team just leaves them to die and slams gens? How often does this happen? Does this even happen often, or are people too driven by altruism?

  • @UnknownKiller said:

  • Yeah, I am having a blast with her. She's very add on/perk dependent, but I get consistent kills (not many 4K, but very few 4E, so far) and the jump scares are great. I'm relatively certain I have cause some soiled pants.

She gives me an alternative strat to standard looping, which I love, but without pushing the "hold w" meta forward much more.

You said her three perks, but were they running Play With Your Food? It's a good perk for a hit and run killer, and I can see it being part of Sadako build.

I disagree with that, as someone who regularly wins while facecamping. All it takes these days is No Way Out + Rancor and you are golden. Facecamp for 4 gens, follow the obsession until the last gen is done, rancor them, and then collect a 3rd kill since NWO held the gates during the mori animation. Here's a guy who got to a 50+ streak facecamping post MMR.

Dead By Daylight | Professional MLG Facecamping 69 Live w/ Bubba - YouTube

I would argue that killer in general will never make you friends if you win. 12 hooks or facecamping, the salt will be the same.

Me? I do it because it's easy. And I don't care about survivors having fun. I have played enough killer that the care is totally gone.

And why limit yourself to just one? Camp AND tunnel to win. Doing both to the same survivor is a "Russian tech" now apparently but I just call it "playing to win".

It can get boring, but it's a tool in the arsenal. And all it takes is a few springwood/haddo offerings in a session before i'm legit done and start facecamping and tunneling everyone I can get my grubby hands on.

I suppose it comes down to preference, but I find camping boring, and I don't think it's all that effective as a primary strategy. As a combo strat? Sure. But if you start camping from the start and the surv team sees what you are doing and is good, they will hurt you for it.

I might camp in the EGC, or if the squad is bombing the hook (which isn't really camping at that point). But going into a game planning on camping from the start? Nah, not for me.

But most of the time, I am not a "play to win" guy, I can get competitive, but DBD isn't a game that reflects skill all that well, so I don't feel driven to win like I do in some other games. I only camp during the EGC, and only rarely tunnel (if I am feeling spicy and am losing and trying to pull a game back), and only slug to 4K if I have a tome challenge or the survs rubbed me the wrong way.

And yeah, the tribalism in this game is such that many are going to dislike you regardless, but not always, and if someone really, prolifically camps or tunnels, you file that name away for future reference.

  • Doctor is bad? I mean he's not ever going to be a comp killer, but I don't think he is bad by any means.

But to the question, I enjoy all killers, and feel that there are only a couple that are just so limited by design that competing against even decent survs is a challenge (mostly looking at you Legion). I don't much care for playing Clown either, as he is just kind of boring.

Pretty much all the other killers you can play in a fun way (Myers for example is a weak killer who can be a blast to use), so long as you aren't going against a bully squad. I won't use these killers if I am trying to win games, chasing grade just before the 13th, or feeling spicy, but nearly all the killers can be fun.

Honestly, the killers I enjoy the least are probably ones widely considered to be strong: Nurse, Blight, Twins.
