I did this with sadako once I figured out she's trash. since she's undetectable you don't need to proxy camp cause the survivors will come straight away. once you get another victim you can wait till they die and they'll probably be at 3 gens at most, so you can play normally after that and they have no chance.

Facecamping/camping only really works with killers with an instadown. Camping as a strat with any M1 killer is going to bring you nothing but pain and 4 man escapes. Bubba is really the only killer who can reliably camp and win, and that depends on the survivors being altruistic.

And it you really want to camp, that's your right, but unlike the other killer mortal sin (tunneling), it becomes less and less effective as the skill of your opponents goes up. If you climb mmr, you will see a lot more 3 man escapes even if you camp one to death.

And it may not matter to you, but camping will not earn you friends, and when you do lose, expect to get your nose rubbed in it.

    Re-build the engine.

It's far too restrictive and is clearly causing massive performance issues.

Yes, this. Have/hire a team dedicated to rebuilding the bones of the game with something other than spaghetti so what should be basic tweaks aren't ordeals or impossibilities.

I think we're officially reaching too many licenses.

You may be right, but I don't think it's going to stop.

There's only two ways the game is going to stay relevant, imo:

    1. Reinvent/refresh its mechanics and gameplay
    2. Keep bringing in new IPs

I definitely see one as more likely than the other.

I don't want to use this argument, but I genuinely do not see how people get any use from her unless the Survivors are just bad.

Not sure what to say. I am pretty certain I don't play at low MMR and she's pretty effective for me, and found her more challenging to go against than many other killers I have faced recently (but also walked all over Sadako players trying to play her like a traditional killer).

I really think people saying she is bad are just missing a lot. If someone tries chasing around loops a lot, they're going to have a bad time, but that's just operator error.

I think she is low B tier at worst, easy A tier in the right hands. A bit perk/add-on dependent, but definitely better than average.

But hey, everyone has an opinion.

    • Supernatural - Winchesters as Survivors, a Demon as the Killer and the Bunker as the map
    • The Shining hotel and topiary maze map
    • Donnie Darko - Frank the Rabbit as a killer skin
    • Phantasm - The Tall Man as the killer, the mortuary as the map and Jody or Reggie as the survivors
    • The Thing - The Thing as the killer, RJ MacReady as the survivor and the research facility as the map
    • Alien - The Alien as the killer, Ridley as the survivor (maybe with Jones in tow), and the Nostromo as the map
    • Event Horizon - Dr. Weir as the killer, Capt Miller as the survivor and the Event Horizon as the map
    • It - Pennywise as the killer, probably Bill as the main survivor (could be any of them though), the sewers as the map

Also some classic unlicensed killers that might be fun

    • Medusa - special ability includes that she automatically inflicts conditions on survivors who have her in their field of view. I think a killer that survivors want to actively avoid looking at would be pretty cool in terms of tension. 🙂 Perseus could be a good survivor.
    • Werewolf - A classic werewolf killer. Probably with a lunge similar to Demogorgon's, some sort of out of chase fast travel run on the map, and maybe the ability to detect the direction to the nearest survivor by holding down the Power button (i.e. animal sense to detect the closest prey). Any werewolf or monster hunter for a survivor works.
    • Mummy - An old fashioned massive mummy. Could do it as a massive juggernaut type a bit like Nemesis that can chew through pallets and breakable walls but doesn't have high map mobility, and/or with a "mummy's curse" that can inflict a condition on survivors. Presumably an archaeologist would be a suitable survivor.

I could get behind Supernatural, but I would much rather chose one of the monsters of the week than a demon. I think when the show leaned full on into the Angels/Demons arena is when the show turned mediocre. But that's a rant for another place.

I love the idea of the Thing, but executing the mimic mechanic without making it OP might be too tall an order. If it could be done, that might be the paradigm changer that the game needs, though. It would really upset the apple cart.

Pennywise I see as the most likely here, and maybe soon. People saw the latest teaser as pointing toward FNAF, but it was the latest in a number of circus related teases which I think could just as easily be pointing toward Pennywise.

  • Having played a ton of Sadakos over the past 48 hours, I feel like there are people who know how to use her, and people who try to use her like other killers. The former type are actually pretty challenging to go against. I faced a few that were downright oppressive. The latter really struggle.

People who insist she is bad are clearly in the latter camp. I mean if you keep trying that and don't have success, that's a you problem, not a Sadako problem.

    She isn't bad at all.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

There's nothing to fix though... her camera seems pretty accurate. It's both a good and a bad thing.

Yeah, this can be a huge advantage at loops, if you're demanifested and the surv can't see you over the wall.

But overall I think the positive and negative balance out here.

  • I think being able to walk though survs is great, but if you extend it to objects, you might as well just let her walk through walls.

The best thing that BHVR did was reduce her manifest/demanifest time, but if she can pass through pallets it becomes OP.

No more boomer horror stuff. Give us FNAF.

    1. FNaF sucks.
    2. Most of the stuff in the game is GenX/Xennial/Millennial horror. Boomer would be like Night of the Living Dead, Rosemary's Baby, etc.
  • No one really knows, and really I don't care as long as I am having fun. That said, I can usually tell when I have moved into higher mmr because everyone has transformed fully into meta sweatlords. When this happens, I just throw a few games.

But I do get a chuckle out of all the YT titles that are like "blah blah blah blah... AT TOP LEVEL/MMR", and then you watch, and it's like yeah, not so much.

  • I'm kind of blown away that some people can't seem to grasp that you can have 7 day a week staffing without overworking people. It's called scheduling patterns, and you can use multiple types within one company to maintain coverage. In a 24/7/365 product as service model, this would seem to be the no brainer call.

It does not require anyone working extra hours, or otherwise infringing on someone's work/life balance. This should not be a difficult concept.

  • "M for Mature" doesn't mean people should be allowed to use slurs, ever. And really, that's pretty ironic, if you think about it.

And because other lobbies are worse doesn't mean BHVR should set their conduct bar lower. If they want to have higher standard for conduct, I am all for it. It's their platform and if they want to mandate that people only use it to communicate in a civilized manner, that's 100% their right.

Now the execution leaves something to be desired, for sure.

  • I'm not even talking about overtime; no one should be mandated or forced to work overtime.

But people do realize that you can have your days off, and they don't all have to be on Saturday and Sunday, right? It's not hard coded that your work weekend has to be on those days.

  • @AGM said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2848247#Comment_2848247

Right, but to give an example from medicine, within a practice there is usually a rotation among the doctors of who is on call for urgent matters that may arise on nights and weekends. I don't understand why there can't be a rotation of a single person with access to the kill switch from home should any issues arise on nights and weekends, who can at least quickly kill switch problems until the team as a whole can examine the issue more in-depth when the team returns.

To be very clear: I'm not asking for the whole company to be at work 24/7. Just a rotation of a single dev who can kill switch things quickly from home if an emergency problem should come up outside of normal working hours. I don't think that's an unreasonable request.

Yeah, I mean it's pretty standard practice in many fields where services are active 365 to have some folks who work say, Wed-Sunday or something. And as you say, at least be able to log in and kill switch something.

What businesses in 2022 close on weekends?

And working from home or overtime is not a thing?

Yeah, that's actually kind of crazy, for a tech based company to shut it down on weekends in this day and age.

When you have a product as a service where things could go wrong at any point, it's actually kind of inexcusable not to at least have a skeleton crew or on call staff to jump on things as they come up.

  • I've only played a couple matches at Badham over the past few days (all as surv), and I guess I did notice that the school was open, but had assumed the killer busted the walls. Didn't know it was a bug.

Saved my butt a few times, though, lol. I was really torturing one killer looping the school while running lithe, assuming they had done it to themselves.

Glad I haven't had any killer matches there during that time, because that is not cool.

  • The thing that really sets DBD apart from your typical toxic VG garbo is the crazy level of "rules for you, but not for me" mentality you see in the community, stemming from a near total lack of perspective from a huge portion of the player base.

I'd be interested to see an accurate accounting of how many players exclusively or primarily (95%+) play one side, I think this asymmetry is the key to the whole thing. I mean that seems kind of implicit, really, psych/sociology 101 type stuff.

I have no way of proving it, but I would bet that a huge portion of DBD players play one side almost exclusively, and view the other side with ignorant disdain. If you ask most people will say they play both sides, but I think that is to lend credibility to whatever argument they happen to be making, and probably only cross over for the occasional daily.

It's kind of understandable, if you want to git gud at a chosen role (and don't have thousands of hours to burn), choosing one and sticking to it seems like the best bet (though it really isn't, since "knowing your enemy" is pretty important). And I think a lot of people really enjoy the tribalism, and lean into it; really identifying with their preferred side.

I don't a have a ton of hope that things will get better in this regard.

FNAF and The Shining (Jack Torrence). Neither of them would make sense.

Yeah, I want no part of FNaF, and while I love The Shining, I can't see any way to make that work in an interesting way.

Unfortunately many of the best horror franchises just wouldn't translate, but many seem hell bent on forcing a fit.

    @lauraa said:

Surprised at how many people are saying Scooby Doo :(

Really? I mean everyone loves Scooby Doo, but the game would have to completely jump the shark for that to happen. I feel FNaF would be pretty close, but Scooby Doo would be full on.

  • I know the layout well, but I am not a huge fan.

That said, it isn't necessarily a troll move to use the offering, as it can be really nice if you are a stealth killer.

If you are a Huntress or Oni, RPD is worse than waterboarding. Just miserable.

  • If you were able to coordinate in solo, camping Bubba (and likely campers in general) would largely become a relic of the past. But no one seems to be on the same page, unless they are on comms.

Few things are as frustrating as watching your team just throwing themselves at a facecamping Bubba.

  • That's the popular narrative, but I like it.

somebodys not watching CoconutRTS and dowsey dont they. mobility its whats best about her power. try to research so youll know how sadako becomes an A tier killer with no counter.

Actually the new killers are already designed to have no counter at all, especially with sadako, her mobility comes with a "passive attack".

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2840757#Comment_2840757

you really cant please killer mains, wont they right?

It's not just coconut and Dowsey, there are plenty of streamers out there playing at a high level and have lots of success. I did not play in the PTB (and I am almost certainly not top tier MMR), but my Sadako games tonight have been pretty good.

I am beginning to think the the "Sadako sucks" crowd are either:

    1. Unable to break free of the "Must. Loop. Always." mindset
    2. Not very good

She's not going to be an S tier or tournament killer, but people saying the sucks and/or is D tier are out of their minds.

And beyond the results, I think she is fun as hell to play as.

  • I got adept on my third game. I think she plays pretty well, though people will figure out counterplay, and it's not hard to see what it is, which is why I am hoarding the items I know will keep her viable a higher levels.

  • I've played only a handful of matches with her so far, but I'd wager I've made at least 3-4 people legit poop their pants.

Basekit she seems average, but with the right combination of her add-ons and perks I have yet to unlock, I can see her being really, really fun.

I can't imagine that, they'd essentially have to remake her, which would take longer than she has been out.

  • I said "significant". No one is running NOED for the speed boost.

You could split DH in two (one for the iframes and one for the dash) and people would run them both.

    DH is a busted perk.

Any midchapter or bug fix patch would like a word with you on that..

Yeah, I was talking about the disruption of the regular pace, like skipping a character chapter entirely and devoting that manpower to game health.

  • @Nun_So_Vile said:

I wouldn't be against it per se, but they would need to pubically detail their plan to the community exactly what main issues are going to be addressed because there are so many areas that need it. This might include minor bugs, balancing, and reworking some of the core gameplay to name a few.

Yeah, lay out a list of things that are to be addressed, and I am absolutely on board. And I think it would be one of the best things BHVR could do.

Buuuut you can't monetize a health patch, so we probably won't see it. Gotta make something that can be sold.

except not exactly, because being on a gen is actually doing something, as opposed to doing nothing, or going to the gens that you can use, which are obviously being patrolled.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2837196#Comment_2837196

This is an interesting point. For the killer using corrupt is stopping survivors from playing, but survivors that instantly do gens is... playing the game. That is their goal to do it. Thats like being mad at a killer for hitting you.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2837106#Comment_2837106

Maybe having them have to cleanse the gen before working on it, so that they cant just hide, but activly have to do work to get started, keeps the same benefit of time for the killer while not being a 'you cant interact' perk.

As a survivor, Corrupt doesn't bother me much. Gen blocked? Find another one or do something else; scavenge chests, break bones, set boons, etc. It's not "stopping you from playing", that's just silly. As killer, unless you are a Trapper/Hag, the only thing to do is find/chase/down/kill. Survivors have plenty of busywork they can while corrupt ticks down.

Unless you think the only think you can do is gens? That sounds boring.

And yes, my point is totally valid. On larger maps for many killers perks like Corrupt are necessary, unless you are god tier. If you don't like that, rather than whinge about perks, maybe direct some criticism toward the root problem (gigantic and/or inconsistently sized maps) instead of the symptom.

  • @SunsetSherbet said:

A 3 v 1 is easier to win than a 4 v 1. The killer is trying to win the game.

Doing it at the beginning is a huge gamble that they rest are going to be altruistic. If they aren't, the camping greatly reduces your chances of winning. imo. 3 v 1 is better, but if you're down 3-4 gens by that point, you're probably not winning.

  • @Munqaxus said:

I'm surprised you would play this game because of The Doctor. Also Sadako? Isn't he just as bad as the flashlight clicky-clicky, most times the clicky-clicky doesn't even hit me in the face when I play killer and it's very rare when I see it. How about the flashlight blind, I could see that causing seizures.

Sadako is getting adjustments because of photosensitivity.

Even setting aside the photosensitivity issues, there is zero legitimate reason for flashlight macros to be used. The only reason is to be obnoxious, so any justification to get rid of it is enough.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

How that any less boring than just jumping on the gen you spawn in next to?

Exactly. Imagine being a Trapper or something and having 2-3 survs spawn in next to gens on the other side of Red Forest or something. You're pretty much screwed.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

How do you decide what the purpose of the Perk is? The description says both.

And in fact, the Dash is mentioned first, so if only one part should be the purpose, it would be the Dash and not the i-frames.

Fair enough, take one or the other, then. Or as someone earlier said, split it. Or block pallets and vaults.

Do whatever, but do something. The perk is busted as is.

  • @shelobster said:

REMOVE THE INSTA DOWN FROM NOED AND THE PERK IS FINALLY FIXED

Yeah, that's not a good comparison. The insta down is the only significant feature of NOED.

That said, if it were up to me both perks would be removed.

  • On huge maps with low mobility killers (situations were your map control is kneecapped), perks like Corrupt are the only thing that gives you a chance.

I would never run it on a killer like Billy, Spirit, or Blight, but for killers like Trapper, Myers, etc., it keeps them viable.

    Remember how imbalanced things are.

  • Other than to be a dick, or to secure a kill because you're so insecure that you doubt you'll get another, there is one obvious and legit reason: altruism.

You have to give the killer cause to move away from the hook. If the killer hooks someone, and immediately teammates start moving in, why would they leave? I don't know how many times I have seen survs pooping their pants with rage over a "camper" how only stayed around the hook because they descended on it like a plague of locusts. The killer is not obligated to immediately move away after every hook.

But beyond that, I don't see much reason to camp on the first hook.

  • I agree completely. The purpose of the perk is to dodge a hit. Take away the distance and you still have the attack cooldown to move away a bit, so it wouldn't be rendered worthless. And it's not just windows and pallets when it comes to distance, it's the exit gates, getting you to another tile, etc.

DH for distance has got to go.

  • @buzzaman said:

I think people will be surprised how little impact this will have.

Probably, I don't think there was as huge an epidemic of stretched res cheaters as many think.

I think COH is much more to blame for this than anything else.

CoH is to blame for many things recently.

  • Five just today, which is super weird, because I hadn't been seeing them at all.

More strangely, perhaps, is that I haven't seen a Huntress is a few days.

  • There are plenty of legitimate gripes from the survivor side voiced constantly, and many of them have to do with killers exhibiting a lack of skill and using undesirable playstyles (camping/tunneling). And there is are plenty of times the killer get shamed for lack of skill (git gud, GGEZ, etc.), so I think the notion that survs somehow suffer in silence is kind of a non-starter.

And no one should be told to "git gud"; if you're out of your depth on either side, you know it. You may try to play it off or deflect, but you know.

And in my experience, most of the "git gud" directed at survs comes from teammates.

And I know this is a source of debate among many, but the skill floor for killer is higher than the one for survivor (though not really significant for either side). And an unskilled killer stands out a lot more than an unskilled surv, a fact compounded by the fact that survs have a team to blend into. The game demands less of survivors than killers; and the climb from noob to being competent is a lot quicker for survivors.

  • I like Midwich as killer, and I feel like the hook spawns are fair and predictable, generally speaking. Bad luck, maybe?
