Same. If the Auric Cell rebate is why we aren't going to be given a fair shot at finishing it then remove the rebate. I can pay ten bucks but I won't if I can't finish it.

In the PTB, yeah, not in the live game yet. There's still a difference.
Yes, now is the time to voice your opinion, and I've already told you where to do that (and how: not so rant-y).
Additionally it's up to players individually to decide what's unfair and grindy to them and what isn't, that's not for you to say in their place.
Referring to: "We can see when something will be unfair and grindy."
Look at forum. Seems pretty clear on how we feel about the unfairness of the Rift.

I'm neither a BHVR employee, nor am I being paid for damage control.
I'm merely saying that The Rift isn't even implemented yet. I'm saying: be open-minded about it. Things aren't set in stone yet and this is what the PTB is for: trying things out. So, go over to the feedback forums, and post your concerns there, or bump up a post that already addresses your concerns. I think it's much more likely to be seen by the devs there as a feedback forum is naturally more valuable to them in terms of development than a forum for discussion about anything is.
And I'm not undermining anyone's voice here. I'm just providing my point of view on all of this with suitable argumentation for why I came to those conclusions.
But it HAS been implemented it is the ptb. We also have eyes. Most of us have been playing dbd for years now. We can see when something will be unfair and grindy.
Now is the time to voice our concerns not after.

I bought the game on Switch and during the first couple of days, besides the bugs and stuff, things went smoothly. Now I can hardly find a game. My server is rather DEAD and I don't have the option to choose a different one so I might as well delete the game. Every other game I've played with dedicated servers lets you choose the server to log on to. Why haven't you implemented that on Switch? It's either living in a good "region" or quitting.
Have you tried contacting Behaviour? You should email them.

It’s for OPTIONAL cosmetics, that you can buy later. Honestly if you pick and choose what you want you’ll pay less than the people who grind it out. Stop ignoring that discussion.
Not the money. Get over the money. It's the unfairness of the time and difficulty of the challenges. You are hung up on the money. Even on the free track the grind/difficulty is unchanged.
-
@johnmwarner said:

Just my personal opinion. I don't think there are any bad killers anymore. If you mean bad as in compared to other killers then yes. But as in objectively bad even when not being compared to other killers then no.
Freddy was the last truly bad killer. But he's much better now.
I like where most of the killers are. I don't like Doctor not because he's bad but because he's not fun to play against. Don't like Nurse because she is too hard to play. Don't like Spirit cause she is too hard to play.

Got the terminator DVD box set from years ago. It clearly says that it's sci fi action horror. They do alter slightly for the later films but it still states horror on all of them.
And the Simpson's have the Treehouse of Horror, should we add Homer as a survivor?
Treehouse of Horror is closer to DBD than anything in Terminator.
What about Eric Foreman? That 70's show had a couple Halloween episodes too.

I'm just saying, nobody knows how long this will actually take.
On top of that, all of this is based on the math of one person, who uses a variable in said math, that being how long a game would last in order to calculate the total required hours to gain all rift fragments, and he didn't even write down his mathematical process of reaching the amount he has obtained. I'm not saying he's wrong per sé, but banking on this alone to make an assumption such as "it'll be impossible to achieve if you don't do X" is just a little far-fetched.
Also add the fact that The Rift is still in its PTB phase, and will still take a couple weeks before it'll see implementation in the live environment, so a lot of things may, or may not, still change.
There's also the fact that this is still the first "battle pass" to be brought into the game, which means that there is still the need to learn for everyone, especially the developers, on what is a good middle ground to make The Rift rewards obtainable my most players whilst still requiring the player to dedicate some time to the game.
And let's not forget that buying the "Premium Track" is entirely optional. In fact, it is entirely possible for you, the player, to not buy the Premium Track, play the game and level your Rift progress, and then buy the Premium Track when YOU are satisfied with the rewards you'll obtain from it, if at all.
Some games don't allow you that freedom (Fortnite), because those games require you to have purchased the pass in order to make the most progress possible. This isn't the case in DbD.
TL;DR:
- The Rift is still in PTB, changes are still possible.
- The Rift is rather non-predatory, as the player can level the pass in advance before deciding to buy the Premium Track, and this is no secret. The Premium Track also doesn't feature "XP boosts" like other games have to encourage buying it before the end to "level it up faster".
- This is the first iteration of The Rift, it's entirely possible the devs are still looking for a good middle-ground to make The Rift accessible to all whilst still requiring some dedication and effort from players to complete.
- Companies need to make money. The Rift having a price shouldn't be surprising, and is still amongst the better value-for-money additions to the game compared to single cosmetic sets costing equally as much.
- All these assumptions are based on the calculations of one guy, that didn't list his mathematical process, and that was made during a time in which The Rift was still in a "beta", meaning that any future changes will make this entirely irrelevant.
So, as with all things: Don't rant. Don't get upset over it. Give your feedback regarding your concerns about The Rift to the devs in the therefore designated forum category (https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/3-3-0-ptb-gameplay-feedback), and wait and see if they make changes. Give The Rift its chance to be implemented in a way that will be benefitial to all.
How much do you get paid to dmg control? Lol. Now is the time for us to voice our concerns as customers and you try to undermine our voices? Awfully fishy. No way in hell are you not employed at BHVR.

But it isn't meant for casuals. All it is is a way for people to get content early and at a bargain. With the exceptions of charms (no ones really gonna cry over them lbh) everything will eventually make it to the store at a later date for you to purchase with either money or iridescent shards.
If it wasn't meant for the average player it wouldn't cost money. There are not enough "hardcore" gamers (aka no lifes) in any one game to sustain a live service.

I voiced my concerns about how these things make it feel like a cash grab
- Excessive grind that very few people have the time to complete
- Time locked challenges
- Challenges that detract so much from normal gameplay, many players will throw just to complete a quest
- The ability to pay your way through the tiers because they know you can't grind your way through them without living an extremely unhealthy lifestyle and giving up your IRL commitments.
I also noted that, from a business standpoint, it's probably a bad idea to reimburse every auric cell spent if they fix the grind.
It's fine now because no one will ever make their money back but they'll go broke if they ever make a version of the rift that isn't an obvious scam. (Well, they won't go broke because they have many, many, many other sources of income but they will probably just break even on Rift content)
Or they could... you know... make it not a scam. By simply removing the Auric Cell rebate. There is MORE than enough content in the premium pass to be worth ten bucks.
I'd rather spend the ten and actually be able to complete the pass and get what I paid for than to have the potential of getting Auric Cells back and the pass be uncompletable.

The spirit was one of the killers I was begging for and it was a "grudge-like" killer that twitches. Shes perfect.
The archives are really the thing sparking my intresest as you really have nothing to do once you reach rank 1
Other changes I wanted to suggest would be some sort of reward for reaching rank 1 or maybe more bloodpoints per match
I came back after a 6 month break for the archive too. But if the Rift doesn't see any changes before launch the I'm leaving again.
The Rify is way too hard and way too time consuming for average players.
Obscenely difficult challenges hidden behind a time gate so you can't even do them until the rift is about to close. And even if you were a DBD god and completed EVERY challenge it would only give you enough fragments for HALF of the Rift. You would need to invest 100+ more hours to finish the Rift assuming you beat every challenge and had perfect lobbies and games.

The issue is that even after you have all the challenges done you still wont have enough rift fragments to complete the pass. You need over 100 hours on top of all the challenges to complete it. Thats not factoring in matches that you cant do the challenge because of DCs or just bad games, lobby wait times, DCs, etc. It looks to require around 4 hours everyday for the 70days without even a day off. You have plans for Saturday and Sunday? Better make up for it by doing 6hours everyday...
Exactly, all of the "it's just an hour a day" ppl aren't being realistic. It's an hour a day assuming you complete one challenge every match and you complete EVERY SINGLE challenge while also pretending that lobby times, crashes, leveling the bloodweb, disconnects and ect aren't going to inflate that time.

Too late for that, that has already happened.
From DLC that was directly purchasable (80's Suitcase, Bloodstained Sack) to ingame store with anti-consumer premium currency that you cannot purchase in the denominations you want (Auric Cells) to an even more anti-consumer battlepass system.
Less and less content for more money. I wouldn't surprised to see loot boxes that give random perks or cosmetics in the next year.
-
@Mrjuice said:
The pass isn't really that bad. I mean, it is your choice to spend that 10 dollars and play A LOT to make the next Pass free. I don't like it, and I won't buy it. However, I do not see this as a thing that would force people to pay. If you can't stop yourself from buying the Pass because there is a good skin in there, that is your own problem.
The thing I am most worried about the Pass is that eventually they would put BPs, Perks, or Add-ons (basically anything that you earn by playing normally). If this happens, this could result in a sort of P2W situation. Those who bought the pass then can grind less and get a character fully maxed out much faster.
In my opinion, instead of complaining about this Pass, why not try to give out useful suggestion to the game and hope that the devs can use the money they get from the Rift Pass to allow them to do more balancing and fixing the core game?
If the Auric Cells rebate is why they made the pass unbeatable I'd rather they remove them from the pass.
10 dollars is more than fair for what is offered in the pass. I would gladly pay for it. IF and only IF it could actually be beaten by the average player. Which as it stands isn't the case.
What I want is to be able to finish the Rift. I don't want my Auric Cells back if that means making the Rift unfinishable.
-
I was for it until the difficulty of challenges and time requirements were exposed as scams.
I wanted to buy it.

Honestly so? its not meant for casual players, its only a couple hours a day, and I know a lot of us will play 100 hours in 70 days easily.
If you play this game consistently, and its your main hobby/game, you should have no issue hitting it. If you don't play that much, well it isnt really for you. Its for those of us who unlocked every perk and P3ed everyone we wanted years ago, and obsessively consume everything dbd related we can.
If the pass wasn't for everyone it would be locked and unavailable to anyone who hasn't p3'd everyone or reached a certain number of hours in playtime.
The fact that a new player has access to it means BHVR made it for everyone and wants everyone to buy it.
Don't be stupid. You are a terrible marketer.

Why is a cash grab from casuals bad? Are they a victim class in the oppression Olympics?
Casuals come in dead last in all aspects of life. If you insist on being casual then accept others with more dedication come out ahead. Welcome to a meritocracy.
Casuals are the reason the game still exists. Without us the playerbase isn't big enough for the game to survive. Every game dies when the casuals leave.
No life neets who play 8+ hrs a day are the minority.
-
@Fibijean said:
It depends what you mean by casual. If you mean people who start up the game once a week and play a couple of matches, I don't think it's really reasonable to expect that people like that ought to be able to max out The Rift.
100 hours in 70 days is really not an extraordinary amount, and is quite a reasonable goal in my mind for rewarding players who are reasonably well-invested in the game. It only becomes an issue at the point where it turns out that the time needed in practice is far more than the estimated 100 hours.
It's 100 hours IF you can do EVERY challenge. If you can't beat EVERY challenge it's way more than 100 hours.
The 100 hours estimate is assuming you have the skill to beat EVERY SINGLE challenge.

While I do agree that currently the grind is too much and should be reduced, you don’t NEED to finish it. Let’s say you grind the pass and only get to like lvl 43 or something. You can look at all the rewards you would get by purchasing the pass and decide wether or not it’s worth it. Chances are it will be since you will be getting tons of cosmetics still. You might not get them all but it would still be a better deal than what we have now, aka $10 for a SINGLE skin.
It's 10 dollars for a guaranteed skin. The pass is designed to give you as little as possible. The skins are even broken up to make sure you likely won't get the full set, encouraging you to spend more money to get through more tiers to finish the skin.
It's designed to make you spend more than 10 dollars,

Nope, I was defending it. But it being unbeatable made me change my mind.

Are we seriously equating the rift with loot boxes now? The rift is pretty consumer friendly imo, especially to dedicated players. You can grind the whole pass before you buy anything, and then towards the end decide if you want to purchase it or not with a guarantee of what the rewards will be.
Consumer friendly? Lol. Literally unfinishable for 99% of DBD consumers. Friendly my ass.

I disagree. I find there too be incredible potential in other genre's. Even horror movies like Nightmare or Friday or Chucky eventually change into different genre's, Chucky and Freddy especially. Hell, even Scream was never truly horror, since it was always just a spoof on horror movie tropes and it never went full on horror IMO.
And, IMO, the first Terminator was pretty scary as a kid. The thought of an unstoppable robot from the future chasing you down too kill you is pretty scary.

It's not about the money. I want what I pay for.
But isn't that the thing, you aren't actually paying for cosmetics. You are paying for the ability to unlock them from grinding for them? (Unless you also unlock tiers with auric cells as well).
And don't get me wrong I think it's crap to make it potentially- unobtainable especially for many, even just some. Like it seems ridiculous right now.
Also using NOED and blood warden... sure that's a great combo. And seems like an EZ way to do the mission.. but what if survivors realize killers are doing this and trying to unlock their challenges? And just run the hell out before you get a hook in. Etc. I know some people are very skilled in this game and it is very obtainable, but I think the point of these is to try to make the majority have a chance at completing them. Not just for a few. Hopefully they find a balance to this and resolve it.
I am also concerned with how people are going to be playing/and or possibly throwing games when the rift comes out just to try to complete the challenges.
Then you should be able to unlock them be grinding. This, this is more than a grind 100+ hrs on top of the difficulty is not a "grind" it's unreasonable for an average player.
When you pay for a water park they don't gate off the biggest slide until 10 minutes before closing time. They don't tie bricks to your ankles to prevent you from reaching all the rides before closing.

If you pay money for it, it should be achievable. I agree. @Theoretical_Heart
The thought occurred to me when looking at this thread,,, I really hope the dev's did not design these challenges to be "hard" so as you go thru them you panic and buy more auric cells to progress through the tiers... negating the "cell return"... I think for the most part, I'll just have to wait and see what exactly is they do about certain things... I guess.. As I still have a lot of unanswered questions about it all.
Those are both master challenges. So they have to be done in a single trial.

well believe it or not, they're trying to make money from it. if they wanted every casual player to get future passes for free, they would just make the premium pass free from the start. its not meant to be easy, its meant to be a bit of a grind, like the rest of the game is. i know, it sucks. but, this is the PTB stuff, so theres still time for it to all change.
also im not good either, but i can certainly think outside the box for some of these challenges. not everyone will be willing to do it, but for me the gen grab is easy as heck. just farm. let them work on the gen, grab one, let them wiggle out, do it again. the NOED one? ive seen NOED turn 0ks to 4ks before. if clearly bad players can do it, im sure i can too. though like i said i'll feel like crap for it.
Lol, 100+ hrs on top of BS hard challenges is not a "bit" of a grind. I'd rather they remove the auric cells from track if that's why they made it impossible to complete. I don't want my cells back. I want to be able to get what I paid for.

I disagree. The game is a love letter too horror, yes, but that doesn't mean it can't have other characters in it. I find people who only want horror characters in DBD too be closed minded since there are tons of characters in film that would work so well in DBD, and too exclude them solely because they aren't horror is silly.
There's only so many horror characters that can be added, and too limit yourself that much would be silly and not smart. I say let anything in long as it fits the killer/survivor role. It's not like the game itself is really scary.
Limited? They can create original characters forever. If you think we ars even close to tapping out of horror you don't know many horror movies. Hellraiser, Friday the 13th, American Horror Story, American Psycho, Hellfest, Hatchet, Psycho, Child's Play, Candyman, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, IT, The Shining, Krampus, Leprechaun, the Thing, Killer Klowns from OuterSpace, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Sleepaway Camp... and more
The there are all the creatures from Crypt TV on YouTube
And Urban Legends like Bloody Mary
And Creepypasta like the Rake and Slenderman
And of course video games
The Horror genre is so deep that tapping into action movies is completely stupid.

No there are 352 TOTAL Rift Fragments in the archive, this is combining all 4 levels which are time gated btw. You have to beat EVERY challenge to get the 352 and even if you do that you 100+ more hours of grinding. This doesn't factor in lobby times, crashes, ect. It also doesn't factor in games that go beyond the 9 minute mark or games where you die fast.
The Rift is designed for you to lose money.

I'd like to think BHVR wants us to buy the pass. Maybe the should talk to us. But they don't even do the dev streams anymore.

1 - Bloodwarden + Noed
2 - I’ve already listed the killer to use
3 - Capture one survivor, and use insidious with leather face.
On on top of that not all challenges are meant to be achievable for every player. If you want it that bad then you have to grind for it. That’s the whole point of the rift. Players have been asking for challenges and rewards.
You are paying money for it. It should be achievable by every player. Period.

The challenges help encourage you to switch up your gameplay style and tactics.
So that mean as a survivor you may need to try different perks.
And as a killer play different killers for different scenarios. For example, Spirit,Ghostface,Myers and Pig are good for gen grabbing. And sometimes the Wraith(depending on add-ons)
Lol. Sure.
-Get 2 Sacrifices during the End Game Collapse using NOED (in one trial)
-Interrupt (grab) 4 survivors
-Get 4 sacrifices in the Basement (in one trial)

So I questioned whether or not it is ACTUALLY FEASIBLE FOR CASUALS to complete, and you somehow interpret that as white knighting.
The floor is yours.
Please explain.
We told you no it wasn't feasible. You responded "ha, well I can complete them" meaning the question was disingenuous and you'd already made up your mind.

I think kucerka hit this one on the head. No one plays him, so why would BHVR make cosmetics for a character who is largely forgotten about. Which is a shame, as they could do so many things with him. Same goes for Jeff. Not many people play him, so there are so few cosmetics for him.

Define "everyone's least favorite." He has always been in my top three from the moment I saw him, and recently surpassed Feng Min for the title of "Favorite Survivor." I realize I am a very small voice in the multitudes of people who play, but saying that NO ONE likes Adam is a straight up lie.
Do zoomers really not know what hyperbole is? The point wasn't that LITERALLY no one likes him. It was that he really doesn't see much play. I guarantee you if we had the internal data we'd see he's the least played survivor.
Geez, I'm getting old. I remember when ppl knew when something was hyperbolic.

To address the three direct questions that I have asked at the beginning of the thread, which, despite having several replies complaining about The Rift, still contains 0/3 of the answers I'm looking for.
Why post in a thread without addressing the questions asked in the OP and then ask the creator why they're posting said thread?
Nah you made it to white knight and excuse the design of the rift being intentionally unwinnable by 90% of players. Nice try though.
