Game starts, I pick up a lantern, this Nea and Feng take offense to it, then try bodyblocking me and purposefully blowing up gens/slamming pallets near me so the killer will come for me.

Can we just end it already? I refuse to play games like this. How petty are other survivors. Worst part is 2 offerings were burnt, so there should have been 4 lanterns, enough for everybody!

Oh and even better, I burnt one of those offerings, one of the people trying to get me killed couldn't have....yet they get mad at me for having the nerve to take a lantern.

Don’t blame the event for the players.
Well when I say event I meant the experience during the event brought about by the players.

DBD makes a perfect psychological experiment. They make a few tweaks to the rules and carnage ensues. Governments and researchers could make use of this stuff. It highlights the depths of human greed......all this from a relatively simplistic videogame :|
  • I've said this for a while, that whole building needs looking at. It's like a fortress and every single survivor will run there as soon as a chase begins. It's repetitive.

This is why survivors always burn offerings for this map too, they're very frequent.

I'd prefer if they nerfed the asylum a little bit and perhaps buffed some other areas of the map to compensate. Just so more of the map gets used.

I'd like to see the escape rate only counting games where NOED hasn't been used.

    THIS ^^

They point to a 2 kill ratio to say the game is balanced. That number isn't accurate at all. Take out all the games where NOED activated and see what the ratio is then. This also isn't accounting for the added kills where whoever the last guy to get hooked when gates are powered gets face camped. Or survivors accidentally getting caught just because they were trolling after the gates were open.

It should only count kills prior to gates being powered. Then we'd see how actually "balanced" it looked.

Everytime I see a Wraith, Leatherface or Pig there wouldn't be a single kill without NOED. Almost every single time.

I play solo and do 2-3 totems but it seems the other 3 survivors can't do 2-3 totems between them.
  • @Dreamnomad

The Game (map) is broken right now. Some hook spawns are really bad. They said on one of the recent dev streams though that it will be getting its own algorithm eventually which will factor in the two floors.

Hopefully it's the next update. Hopefully.
  • You mean when you don't hear a skill check, don't see a skill check, let go of a gen and it blows up?

I've been considering taking technician just for this. Buff it from 50% to 75% and I probably would.
  • Oh man the amount of bloodwarden and noed combos im seeing is unreal.

Hmm, kind of regret asking for killer perks to be hidden lol
  • I'd like to see the escape rate only counting games where NOED hasn't been used.
  • STBFL is a good perk.

    PWYF is not.
  • It's always funny how all the low rank survivors still have level 3 of all the meta perks.
  • See I'm not sure if the devs realized they basically buffed DS by making it easier to pull off. This goes against them saying it needs to be nerfed.

So if you're reading this what is the solution? I think we need an emergency nerf. Only the obsession should have it so that killers aren't punished for walking a mile to a new hook under this new system.

Or revert the hooks. Either way please stop tampering with them until the DS problem is fixed first.

I'd also like to point out that the new hook spawns don't seem to talk walking distance into account. I used a hook on groaning storehouse for a sacrifice. Got a second survivor down in there later - because it's a hotspot, every survivor is going to run there. So I get them down but I can't make it to a new hook at all. There was one nearby within x meters of the hook that had been used, however your spawning algorithm didn't seem to take into account the fact that I had to walk right to get out of the building and then walk left to get to the hook. It only serms to count distance in a straight line. The actual walking distance was too far to get to the hook.

Trying to figure out why on earth a killer should just willingly go into a toxic game.

Problem is killers have no idea which SWFs are toxic, which aren't, and which will lie about not being toxic when they actually want to make the killer miserable anyhow.

I get it. Give SWF a chance.
Thing is, we have, and that's why we're here, and others blew it for you.

Until this game is balanced around 4 survivors communicating and coordinating (and it's not),  prepare to be dodged.

Pretty much. i'm not bothered so much about friends, I just want people who play the game normally. It's meant to be a horror game, survivors should be running around scared and evasive. Having some moron run over to you clicking the flashlight wanting to be chased, tbagging at every pallet, and having the biggest crutch perk in all of gaming as a safety net just ruins the mood.

  • It depends.

Sometimes it's pure salt that they're losing.

Other times it's frustration at teammates farming them, killer not leaving the hook etc
  • When is this update coming? I thought it was today.
  • Yeah you can use Reshade just fine, it's whitelisted. Also Nvidia freestyle.

  • I don't expect nor care too much about the lantern. I don't always get one and that's fine there is still 20 points in the generators.

I just don't like having my fellow survivors be as big a threat to me as the killer. It's meant to be an asymetrical game, 4 vs 1.

Sounds like someone got wrecked by a "noob" recently. Did you get violated by a chainsaw recently? It's ok this is a safe space and you can talk about it.

    Why so toxic and salty?

Well excuse me for voicing my opinion. Guess next time I'll not bother.

ever since i first saw you i have held on to these gifs finally i can use one

Unlimited instadown chances, a chainsaw that has the most generous hitbox I've ever seen, the ability to cross the map in seconds allowing camping without camping.

Yeah Billy is the noobs killer. He's strong yet doesn't require half as much skill as the Nurse or Spirit.

  • I think this event has just made everyone extremely salty.

    Bring back Hallowed Blught.
  • I'm not a fan of survivors who don't burn offerings racing survivors who did for lanterns. The guy who used the offering will get points you won't. You will find another one. Obviously the other guys were dicks too though.

Yeah just added this detail in. I burnt an offering. One of them couldnt have so not sure why they were mad at me. They seemed co-ordinated though so im assuming 2 man swf.
  • So you have an isolated incident... yet it is every game?

And you complain about it and want the event ended early?

    What?

    Millennials these days....

Dude...have you been reading the forums?

People have been complaining about other survivors trying to get them killed for days now.

This was the worst example because it looked like a 2 man swf but I've had survivors pulling this crap since the event started.
  • I don't use those characters too often but I can see how those maos are bad for them.

In general no I don't D/C. The game always shafts me with the worst maps for whichever killer I'm using but I roll with it and figure it's fair and just luck. However if I get coldwind multiple games in a row then I d/c. It's unfair to ask someone to play those maps 5 games in a row especially when survivors burn the offerings timr and time again.

The idea of having it not repeat recently played maps is a good idea.
  • Is this where the PR people come in and tell me it's ok to play competitive? even though this was in the first 5 seconds of the game. Not a gen done, trying to get people killed because they took 1 lantern out of 4, would have been an enjoyable game I'm sure :|

That's the thing about playing survivor, sometimes you don't even have to do anything wrong to get killed your team can make that happen for you
    Thats the problem.

A single survivor is weak, but together they are strong.

However right now I have the killer to worry about AND other survivors.

  • I think with the new spies they need to be rebalanced.

Spies can seem OP on Macmillan and lerys, but it's almost useless on the coldwind maps.

  • lmao I just had a Clown who had NOED, Bloodwarden and BBQ.

He got looped by one guy for most of the game. Looped....as Clown!!

  • It really is stupid. I don't know why everyone cries about prayer beads, I'll take that over JT any day. At least I get 3 chances with prayer beads as opposed to 1 with JT.

And stop blaming the survivor for being bad. I've had Myers stalk the hell out of my team, tap M2 on me and then kill me. How was that my fault? lol. He got a second from me and the rest from everyone else. I got punished for their mistakes.

At least with prayer beads or Iridescent heads I don't get punished due to their mistakes.

  • I would ask them

"While you're chasing this survivor, what are the other three survivors doing?"

And then I would tell them to not be afraid to switch targets, if they run past a gen during a chase and see someone on it, go give that survivor a slap too. Don't just sit around the hook, go out and chase and hit all survivors as much as possible. You need to be breathing down their neck every second so that they don't have time to do gens.

    Whats the problem with that?
Seems like the other way around is ok

why do you always have to be like that?

And no having 20 minute long killer queue times wouldn't be good as Hallowed Blight proved. They're increasing killer points now so that survivor queue times aren't as long.

I always love using arguments for the exact opposite
So its fine to have 20 min survivor queues, but on killer side its a nono?

Not sure what you're getting at.

survivor queues aren't fine either. That's why they've increased killer rewards. If you think it isn't enough, well they probably want to play it safe rather than risk pushing the balance the other way.

Survivor sounds better but I've found killer to be more consistent for this event.

If things don't change then perhaps they will change it even further.

  • No.

I've seen other peoples stats and there is no difference between the rarity of the items they get. I did it with Feng too and noticed no difference.

It's just for cosmetics at this point.

camping in a battle royale is different to camping in DBD.

In PUBG holding a building is a defensive position. The opposing team has guns and has an equal chance of taking them out.

As a survivor on the hook you can't do anything.

it's the mechanics of dbd. its hard to explain but a lot of it feels unfair. I wouldn't compare it to games like starcraft anyway, I mean DBD is fun but it's not on that level nor is it that polished.

I get that it's different, but the general mindset remains.

Why do people expect the opposite side to care? To have mercy? It's not just camping, it's also tunneling, looping, gen rushing, flashlight saving, DS, NOED, slugging,... ANYTHING that's not purely toxic (teabagging, flashlight triggering,...) exists to be used as a method to win.

Especially since it's a 4v1 it should be expected that there is even LESS room for fairness / forgiveness than in an even 5v5. I don't get it.

4 Players play against ONE player.

4 Players expect that this one player actually cares about the fun of the 4 opponent players.

What logic is that? If anything, the 4 players should be encouraged to make the match fun for the Killer in that case. The Killer is alone, no one to communicate or mess around with. Allow them to have some fun.

I guess nobody should care but it's on the development team to find solutions so that everybody has a fun time.

Personally I try a bit. If someone disconnects early then I'll let the last person have the hatch because it's not their fault if they got screwed.

If someone brings DS though then I couldn't care less if I play dirty with a bit of camping or tunneling, they don't care about giving me a fair or fun game so I don't care about them. Same for tbaggers.

Because of the nature of the game.

Something like call of duty is simple and fun. Both sides have guns, both run around trying to shoot each other.

In DBD each sides have different roles, however due to the game design certain playstyles can be unfun for the other side.

As survivor going on the hook and then having the killer stand in front of you so you cant get escape isn't very fun.

Likewise as killer having survivors run in circles around structures where you cant hit them isnt very fun either.

There arent many games like that where the design causes the gameplay to be unfun.

But Dota and LoL can also be abusive. If your opponent realizes that you're bad, they will start to feed on you, merciless. It's normal, they want to win so they take advantage of your lack of skill. You're not going to blame the enemies "Stop farming me!" you're going to ask your teammates if they can help you.

CS:GO is full of campers but you're not going to call them out as "######### campers", instead you adapt and learn how to deal with them to prevent yourself from getting killed by them over and over again. You're going to playing more carefully.

In Battle Royales you're always expeting people to play in the scummiest way possible to ensure their #1. If they lack the aim skill to beat you, they're going to camp and if it works, they simply won by using a smart tactic. They avoided aim combat because they knew they'll lose it, so they forced me to get out of my comfort zone and this is how they won.

In SC2 / AoE / any other strategy game, people use "cheap" rush tactics to beat you but if it works, that was a smart move. I'm not going to flame them for using that tactic, as it allowed them to win.

I can't think of a game where people expect the opposite side to put their own victory at risk simply to provide a funny experience for the opposite side. Name me one.

As a survivor on the hook you can't do anything.

A single survivor is not supposed to be able to do anything against the killer, since this is an asymmetrical game. The rest of them together, however, can do something.

Not really. They can use BT but that's about it.

As a team they can rush gens. It works in swf because your friends win, but nobody really cares about solo, not when the devs push this "every man for himself" narrative. If the team doesn't matter and only you matter then what good is it if they make it out? what fun do you have on the hook?

However if they pushed teamwork more and perhaps gave bonus BP/XP based on how many survivors made it out alive, then perhaps that would be better.

DBD is meant to be asymetrical 4 vs 1 but the devs seem unsure if they want it to be that or if they want it to be 1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1 vs 1 as this event has proven.

  • I leave them to die.

Sometimes they rage, sometimes they crawl and seek you out knowing the killer is following them, sometimes the killer will pick them up, get them to reveal your location so they work together to get you killed - this happens a lot.

Why? because I'm not stupid enough to take the bait? if I see the killer run to the other side of the map looking for me then I'll help but I'm not stupid enough to attempt it when the killer is hovering nearby keeping an eye on them.

Then the killers get salty that you didn't take the bait and work with the other survivor to get you killed. It's so toxic. That's when it's disconnect time.

For the record if this happens to me and I get slugged, and the other survivor has done a decent job then I lead the killer far away. Normally to a random locker on the other side of the map so that I can help that other person live.

(in addition to the "toxicity of DbD"...)

There's also a weird mentality going on in DbD, it's very different to other games I've played. People expect the opposite side to care about their fun and their experience - even if it might cost them the win.

Coming from very competitive games, I thought it was quite obvious that people try to demolish the other team as hard as possible. It's normal, both teams want to win and they'll do anything to achieve that. However, if you do that in DbD, you're going to get a lot of hate.

I'm still wondering why that is? I can't really understand it... Is it the mixture of "casuals that just want to have fun" and "tryhards that just want to win"? I never expect my opponents to have mercy with me, why should I? It makes no sense.

I think that's a big part of the problem, because it's the reason why people get so frustrated over a single match. This part could very easily be solved by creating seperate modes for those; Casual and Ranked.

Because of the nature of the game.

Something like call of duty is simple and fun. Both sides have guns, both run around trying to shoot each other.

In DBD each sides have different roles, however due to the game design certain playstyles can be unfun for the other side.

  • They listen, they just don't always do what people want. Perfect example...

Community - DS needs a nerf

Devs - Lets space the hooks further apart.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRMBxnxWiNQ

  • Juggling wastes time and isn't always possible.

UP still relies on the survivor messing up, plus who wants to bring a perk just for it that's worthless outside of meme builds against low ranks?

  • I think self-care is now fine as it is (since the base healing time got increased to 16s).

As a killer, I'm fine with a survivor self-caring without items instead of doing gens. When I play surv, I usually don't use SC anymore since it consumes too much time and I go for something else instead, for example Bond.

There are some survivor toys I'd like to have a talk about but I don't consider SC one of them.

I feel the same. I dropped self-care because it was too slow, especially when killers are all running sloopy butcher.

Look at sabotage. It's something you can use if desperate, but most will use a toolbox if they want to sabotage.

Self-care should be the same. It's there if you really need it but ideally it will be a last resort. I think with the current healing times this is what it is. Getting healed by a teammate or using a med kit is preferrable.

I think survivors who complain about self-care speed forget this and they want it like the old days where it's a way they can easily use to heal every time.

Killers complaining should apply mangled. 40 seconds is enough to have a survivor out of action for.
  • What do you mesn killers can see you but you can't see them?

    BBQ? Bitter murmer? Nurses?

Try Alert or dark sense and you can see the killers aura. Plus things like spine chill give you a heads up when they're looking in your direction.
  • Killer points would go through the roof then and everyone would play killer causing the queue times to become 20 minutes long.
  • Have to agree here. DBD is the only game where I've had to make my steam profile private.

In fact I went 7 years without having to block a single person, then I had loads - all of which were from DBD.

Killers aren't innocent though. I need to constantly change my steam name just because so many of these idiots hold a grudge because you won after they camped so hard. So next time it's tunnel and mori and they try to get other survivors to work with them.
  • At red ranks people like points and pips, so they all compete for the unhook hence why they're all in position straight away.

  • When did this happen? Feels like I noticed this too. Anytime I down someone in an area that someone else died. The nearest hook is impossible.

They seriously did this intentionally? SO passive DS basically.

Yup. They changed it in the most recent mid-chapter update. They had a dev stream showing how the hooks work now.

It was REALLY bad in the few games I had on the ptb, but I think overrall it's kind if random.

Rotten Fields can be bad for it.

Groaning storehouse has one corner that only has one hook you can make it to, and to make matters worse the hatch often spawns there.

But as you say once one hook is gone you can't make it to another. Naturally survivors once they become aware of this exploit the hell out of it like they do everything.

So you can try to not create a deadzone but sometimes you can't actually make it to another hook anyway, and who wants to walk that far and risk taking a DS?

Agitation and hangmans trick become mandatory perks. Just more to add to the list of perks needed that make killet playable.

Oh and don't get me started on the game. I carried one to the hook last night and bam, DS. Get my second victim down and I cant make it to a single hook. It's so bad. I wondered why survivors were burning more game offerings recently and now I see why.
  • They aren't going to touch it but they should meet the community half-way.

    1) Show who was SWF after the game at the very least. This might make swf complaints go down a bit, as everytime a killer loses or has a tough game they automatically assume it's 4 man swf when in reality it was a 2set and 2 solos.

    2) Offer bonus BP based on swf numbers. 2 man swf = 1.25x bp, 3 man = 1.5xbp, 4 man = 2xbp....or something like that. It might lessen the complaints a bit.

  • @e8Lattice said:
I think we need to go right back to the basics and make killers actually have to work for their kills, not just expect a hook to be well within their range, I mean because they are! Most of them are easily within arms

Currently if you get to 99.9999% wiggle bar it affords you nothing. Make it so however far along the wiggle free meter has progressed, say you get hooked at 50% progress you then have a 50% chance to wiggle free from the hook. Same as if you got to 98% you now have a 98% chance to escape from the hook.

This wouldn't be a perk, this would be the default build that effects everyone. And then boil over is not so useless after all.

Yeah man the chase, the jungle gyms, the exhaustion effects, the immersed survivors with UE, the pallets, the loops, the blinds, the decisive strikes....none of that is the killer working for the kill, it's all about that time period when the survivor is on your shoulder!

  • Yes,

    1) You get points.

    2) Your team is more efficient.

Even if this person is bad it's worth rescuing them just because it's one more person to keep the killer busy until you can do the rest of the gens.

  • Probably Hag. I've got so many ebony moris on here, plus since I imagine these four are toxic I can play ultra campy to be toxic back.

I could use a few killers, but the ebony is what is most important.

1 … 30 31 32 33 34 … 68
