Just use your unpredictability as a weapon. They might be so utterly confused about why you sped straight past them with a charge that was so blatantly not going to hit into a clearly open space that they stop for a second out of fear.

Billy, come on now. It's not worth the risk. You could seriously hurt someone.
I'm trying to hurt people! It's just that it's really hard to steer this blasted chainsaw when I'm seeing double!

Alright, for those of you that wanna know what Killer is all about, it's like this y'all. c'mon. Killer is 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 5% pleasure, 50% pain and 100% reason to remember the game.
He doesn't need his 4k every match. He just wants to kill whether it's with M1 or the Powers. They feel so unlike every other Killer, alone. In spite of the fact that Survivors still think that they know 'em. But hook 'em, they know the code, it's not about the victory. It's all about the entity and making some noise. Bringing a Mori, making sure the Hex stays up. That means when you put it down, Surv's pickin' it up.
Who the heck is the Hag anyway? She's never really seen much. Never concerned with chases but still leavin' them hooked up. Humbled through opportunities, given despite the fact, that many misjudge her because she makes a livin' from laying traps. Put it together herself, now the picture connects. Never asking for Survivor nerfs, or to get some respect. She's only focused on the web she drew; her will is beyond reach. And now it all unfolds, the skill of an artist. This is 20% skill, 80% fear. Be 100% clear 'cause Freddy is ill.
Who would've thought that he'd be the one to set the forums in flames. Then have him wreckin' with Sloppy Butcher, Jump Rope and Swing Chains. Teleport back, dropped Pop, took the slowdown perks. Unlike Nurse mains, Freddy has the stupidest VS. This dude is the truth, now everybody be givin' him nerf posts. His hate's through the roof; I heard he hookin' the SWF too. This is 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 50% pleasure, 5% pain and a 100% reason to disconnect from the game.
They call him Oni, he's sick, and he plays kinda like Mike. After the campfire he's slow, then you M1 Survivors to snow (ball). Not a traditional Samurai; he's an Oni; a demon. Survivors want to match with and Trappers hope to be him. Power takes years in the makin' patiently waitin' to blow, now the revival of Yamaoka's takin' over the globe. He's got an ancestral line; her power is equally cool. You won't believe the kind of kills that come out of this kid's tools.
She's not your usual mindgame or juke. She knows how to work the power she's got, even ignoring the (pallet) drop. She often gets a comment on her rage. People keep asking her, "Was it a given at birth, or does it come from the nurturing?" No, she's livin' proof Kazan was speakin' the truth. You'll hear the buzzin' quicker with her Bloody Hair Brooch. Rin and her line are known around as one of the best, dedicated to what they do and give a hundred percent.
Don't forget Trapper, nobody really knows how or why he works so hard. It seems like he's never got time, because he picks up the traps to place them every time. And I've seen him at work when that trap goes off in his mind. It's like a design is written in his head every time, before he even knows about the Key or Borrowed Time. And those Add Ons he runs with, the Perks he assigns? Ridiculous, without even trying, how does he do it? It's 10% luck, 20% skill, 15% concentrated power of will, 50% pleasure, 5% pain and a hundred percent reason to remember the game.
(This is apparently what happens during long lobbies/load times when you drink and DBD, remember to consume alcohol responsibly. I wanted to improve the last part more, but I'm not a Trapper. Pun intended. )
I will drink responsibly when you pry this beer out of my shaking, sweaty fingers.
Until then I'm going to enjoy the aroma of Pacific Northwestern hops and bounce off of walls and whack people with my cane until I...
...wait, what were we talking about?

Playing killer is a lot more fun and satisfying (for me at least), but it can also be a lot more stressful since you have literally zero downtime and the amount of information you need to keep track of is immense. Managing your time and information is key; it's okay to give up on chases if the survivor is sticking to safe loops like glue or if you need to go defend your gens.
There are little tricks you can use to help keep track of where survivors are: if someone gets saved from a hook and healed 16 seconds later you can reasonably expect that they and the person who rescued and healed them are going to jump on the nearest gen together. If you can keep track of where you hooked them and how fast they were healed you'll know where to find them. This kind of information is crucial.
Expect to lose gens early on but make up for it later as the survivors have fewer gens to do and fewer pallets to run to. I often hear new killers getting dismayed because they lose 1-3 gens in the first couple minutes. This is totally normal and you always always have time to make a comeback.
The most valuable skills you can learn are how to down survivors quickly. This is a big topic and I can't explain it all here but as other people have said you can check out streamers to see what they can teach you. I particularly recommend Otzdarva (https://www.youtube.com/c/notOtzdarva/videos). Mindgaming your red glow to give survivors less time to react is important, but the best advice to winning chases I can give you is to be precise rather than fast. It's always worth taking the extra second to ensure you'll get the hit rather than attacking immediately and getting 360'd/Dead-Harded.
-
I usually go with the AK-47 with a 2x scope.
This game is finally starting to feel balanced.
-
Because the game's asymmetrical people can't really tell what you're thinking and tend to project emotions on to you. I find I get more positive responses if I give people a "gg wp" or a "gg <3".
Things have been pretty chill for me recently barring a few wannabe trolls.
I did have a baffling match the other night though where I beat a 4 man SWF as Bubba. They were pretty chill (i.e. bad at the game) so I went out of my way to play nice: no camping or tunneling, no killing survivors until everyone was on death hook, etc.
I was fully prepared to give one of them hatch until one of them DCed to give their teammate hatch but goofed it up. I gave them a "gg <3" but then the last survivor responded with an all caps:
HOW'D YOU LIKE ALL THOSE PALLETS TO THE FACE?!
I responded with, "Fine, I guess. How'd you like all those chainsaws to the face?"
He hit me back with a sick burn:
YOU ONLY CHAINSAWED ME TWICE, LOSER
Needless to say, things only got funnier from there. Sometimes the only thing you can do about a salty player is giggle. Loudly.

Of course. DS gets nerfed, now they go for the next Perk. When DS got nerfed and got the Unhook-requirement, the Forums were flooded with Threads to nerf Adrenaline for weeks. This will happen with Dead Hard now.
Once you give Killers a hand they grab the whole arm, more and more, never satisfied.
Survivors on the other hand are perfectly content with what they're given. Undying came out and changed the game's meta and survivor mains flocked to the forums to shout about how great they thought it was and how they didn't want it to be changed.
...let's not start that fight, shall we?

OMG, you are sooooo right. There is absolutely no problem with someone having a repeatable and uncounterable second chance that completely undoes a mistake that should have resulted in them getting downed! Anyone who thinks that the perk design, even ignoring DHfD, is unfair (giving the survivors the ability to just avoid getting hit that the killer worked for) is clearly a biased killer main and shouldn't be allowed to talk publicly!!!
Killer main, btw.
I mean... you get less than half a second of i-frames once per chase and only when you're injured. You make it sound like survivors have an invincibility button they can push any time they want.
Have you ever tried Dark Souls? I'd bet you'd hate it. Players have a repeatable and uncounterable dodge roll move that undoes a mistake that should have resulted in them getting hit. It's terribly designed.

Some people only play against baby default skin survivors who at best Dead Hard into a wall so they think the perk is fine. I wish people HAD TO verse a tournament team once in a while so they would see what the game really looks like when survivors know what they're doing.
I can immediately upload a clip of mine versing UBK Exlelite and his team so people see why Dead Hard is just cheesy bs at its finest.
I played Pyramid Head and had a 100% accurate shot through the wall. Guess what happened. Dead Hard aka "press E to outplay/undo mistake" and off they went all the way to the next loop instead of going down.
But yeah let's ignore Dead Hard because most survivors have 100 hours in the game and use it to Dead Hard into a wall.
A good survivor dodged your power?
That's so unfair.
We should nerf his perks.

It's the one powerful survivor perk that can be baited out
Some killers have abilities that LOOK like M1 to screw with survs too, e.g Wraith starting the bell hit, survs see killer moving and just hit E
It's the one powerful survivor perk that I, as a killer player, find fun interactions with where it becomes a sort of mindgame scenario between me and the survivor
We're getting DS and OoO nerfs, which were the only 2 perks that I think are TRULY unfair, please chill a little
I agree completely.
I'm genuinely baffled by all the 'nerf DH' threads that have been popping up recently. DH is easy enough to play around most of the time and makes for more interesting chases because injured survivors with DH are more likely to take risks rather than playing it safe and dropping the pallet early.
And people who complain about 'Dead Hard for distance' need to understand that that's literally the function of the perk. Buying you time in a chase to reach the next window/pallet is exactly what exhaustion perks are for. I find DS/UB users far more annoying than DH, because I can't do anything about their perks.

If Dead Hard isn't "press E to outplay" what is it then ?
You use Dead Hard when you would otherwise get hit so it is in fact nothing else but "press E to outplay".
Why even try to deny it?
I deny it.
Even if you're just 'dead harding for distance' you still have to route well and time your DH well or you'll still get hit. You only get 0.5 seconds of I-frames. Skilled killers value precision over quick reactions. If you're missing a lot of attacks due to DH you need to work on baiting the perk out better and only attacking when you know you can get the hit.
And for people who say Dead Hard can undo a survivor's mistake I would respond that players with Dead Hard take bigger risks because of it. Without Dead Hard injured survivors would just play it safer and drop pallets faster. That just doesn't seem as exciting to me.
-
They're supposed to be difficult achievements to get though, right? I'm okay with the idea that certain cheevos should be more difficult than just "do X number of things". Getting some achievements should be, well... an achievement.
Maybe try using the padded jaws? I've found some Adept Killers are easier if you use the gimmick addon that makes you weaker but gives you extra BP.
-
I agree.
As a Rank 1 killer main I've never had a problem with Dead Hard. I even like to use it when I play survivor. Is it a really good perk? Heck yeah. Is busted OP and "press E to outplay?" ***** no.
I'm not sure why we're suddenly seeing all these nErF dEaD hArd threads. My guess is there's a lot of newer killers because of the event and the issues with survivor, and with matchmaking as goofy as it is people are struggling to compete against experienced survivors with good perks.

If you've not played during this, you have no idea how bad it is right now.
My friends are like "I wanna play DBD!" and I tell them every time that it's not going to end well.
I have new friends that have just gotten the game and I told them not to even try it yet, until this is fixed.
To be more clear, I stopped playing because of the update. I know exactly how bad it is, which is why I'm taking a break.
-
I haven't really played since the update. I'll be back if/when they fix it.
I'm sure all the threads quieted down because the devs know the problem exists and are (hopefully) working on it. People have either acclimated to the ridiculous state of the game or have stopped playing like I have.
I have noticed though that a lot of content creators like Otzdarva and Puppers are posting older videos from before the update. It must be a tough time for them.
-
Not a bad build. I'm not personally a fan of thana, but you do you.
Whispers is a bananas perk for getting the best value out of your static blast. Since Whispers has a range of 32 meters, same as your blast, you can just use your blast once Whispers lights up to get a guaranteed shock. And if someone's hiding in a locker you'll know that as well. It's great for finding survivors at the start of the match, but it'll give you value for the whole game.
You might also want a gen regression perk to buy yourself more time. Pop and Ruin are the go-to perks there and Pop pairs well with BBQ, but Surge and Oppression are not to be underestimated. Surge combined with Pop is great at stopping survivors from finishing gens right in front of you.
My favorite doctor builds are new Impossible Skill Check and Sniper Doc. New Impossible Skill Check is Distressing, Unnerving, Lullaby, and Undying combined with the Calm addon. Sniper Doc is Whispers, Lullaby, and Thrill of the Hunt with the green electrode addon and the green addon that turns your shock therapy into a beam. You can zap people off your totems from around 30 meters away any time they try to cleanse.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

I love solo Q, but it helps to focus less on surviving/ranking up and more on enjoying the ride.
Also make sure that you always write in complete

I'm sorry you had a game like that, that streamer is the one in the wrong, not you. But I do agree with you that the playstyle of other players can too be very toxic.
Thanks, but there's no need to feel sad for me. This twitch streamer called me "Satan the Devil" in his VOD because I healed mid-chase with Inner Strength and then thumped him with Head On. I'm perversely proud of being called that. There's a larger conversation to be had about the fact that he felt I was being toxic despite me using fairly normal perks the way they were intended, but it all gets wrapped up in this delightfully stressful experience we laughingly call DBD.
I'll never like this guy, but I'd play against him again in a heartbeat just to see what majestic tomfoolery we can throw at each other next. I'll hate him for it and he'll hate me for it but it doesn't matter because his hatchetts can't hurt m-aaargharhargh!!
-
Easy Peasy.
For killer I know I've won when high ranked survivors stop playing cocky and start playing like I'm actually a scary killer. It's a delightful moment and I savor it like fine wine.
For survivor I never know when I'm going to win (killers always have a chance to make a comeback), but I know for sure when my team is gonna lose. It's that moment where I get chased for a minute or more before going down and then I see the auras of my teammates and not a single one are doing gens. And then my soul shrinks just a little bit more.
-
I'll be honest, I find certain builds annoying, like survivors with Deliverance/DS/UB or Deathslinger with M&A (I don't know why that annoys me but it does). There's a difference though between 'something I find personally annoying' and 'something I feel is toxic'.
OoO is the only truly toxic perk out there because of how it's used, and it sucks that it took the devs 4 years to finally do something about it. I don't like going against NOED, but I can live with it same as everyone else.
I'm saying this now because I went against a twitch streamer the other day (I won't name names) who face-camped me as Huntress (!!!!!!!). This was my second time against him and both matches were horrendous (in my first match against him he slugged me for 4 mins until I bled out). His excuse for camping me to death on my first hook was that I was using meta perks and he wasn't. For the record though I feel like BBQ, Nurses, and Iron Maiden are pretty meta for Nurse. My meta perks (DS, DH, and BT - I was only using BT because of a challenge) weren't really relevant because I didn't get to use any of them.
Sorry for the minor rant, but my point is that it's not about perks, it's about playstyle. Except for OoO. F*** that perk.
-
I don't mind it.
Mostly because half my Bubba games end up being on Grim Pantry. Main buildings are pretty strong, but there's a lot of dead zones and mind-gameable pallets.
My biggest complaint about the swamp maps is that they have some of the worst totem spawns in the game. Survivors always seem to find the totems on the corners of the map and both swamp maps have a particularly heinous totem spawn location next to a boulder that is literally visable across the entire map. Gods help you if your Ruin spawns there.
-
You couldn't have just posted this to today's OTHER "NeRf dEaD hArD" thread?
Or yesterday's "NeRf dEaD hArD" thread?
Not even the one from 2 days ago?

-
One of the more baffling things I see are the survivors who slowly walk away from me when they see me coming from 20/30/40 meters away and then use Sprint Burst at the last second. The explanation is obvious: they're trying to make me whiff a swing. But do they really think I can't tell they have Sprint Burst? They would have been so much better off by just using their SB to make distance when I was still far away.
-
@_HN_ said:
Agreed TheWarNung.
I'll be honest, at this point if feels like one of thos perks that should just be baseline, just make the exhaustion way longer and it will probably improve the game a whole (ofc that also mean killers should get something too, and the top of my list would be auto regression on gen with kicks that actually bump them down ala pop but only 5-10%, but that's another topic entirely).
Auto-regressing gens would've been a good idea if they had done it 4 years ago but with the number of regression perks in the game now (Ruin, Pop, Surge, Overcharge, Oppression, etc) they would have to overhaul a massive amount of the game to make it work.
-
These fat shaming spots make me want to take Bubba out for a few jogs. Big Boi needs less red meat and more cardio.
-
Not to beat a dead horse (Hi Maurice!) but I agree with most of the people above. I don't enjoy farming. I get more than enough BP by just playing the game.
If you want to learn Nurse that's a noble endeavor, but you're either going to either need to find a friend to play a private game with or get used to losing games for a while until you figure out her mechanics.
-
Rank 1 killer main here who has no problem with DH.
Dead Harding for distance isn't abusing or exploiting the perk, it's using it exactly as intended. If it makes you lose extra time during a chase, well... that's exactly what exhaustion perks are supposed to do. It can even be counterplayed... sometimes. If a survivor Dead Hards to reach a pallet they're going to panic-drop that pallet 95% of the time. If the loop is short enough you can run to the other side and hit them before they can vault back. It's not foolproof, but it's more counterplay than you get against a squad that 99s their Sprint Bursts.
When I see a survivor use DH well I don't rage, I just think "nice Dead Hard" and then keep playing.
Also, I use DH when I play survivor. It's not broken. It's just a really good perk.
-
It's only been 2 months since Twins dropped, and they generally go 3 months between chapters. The mid-chapter update only dropped last qeek, so they're at least a little delayed. My guess is there's at least another two weeks before the new chapter is teased, and a week or more after that before the PTB drops.
TBH though I'd rather they focused their efforts on last week's disaster of an update. The game is barely playable right now.
-
Huh. Fair point.
Too bad the emblem system is "soon (TM)" to be obsolete.
-
Impossible healing Legion? Seems perfectly cromulant to me.
Slam out gens efficiently and you win. Try to use self-care and God weeps.

@HexSmolPP said:
Umm isn't it physically impossible to do a gen in 27 seconds 😂 even with 4 people on it ctfu. Only way you had this happen, is if you had a hacker. We has a Dwight hacker where he had speed hacks and could finish gens by just touching them. He would fly across the map, tap a gen and it would complete. That's hilarious 😂 😂 I kind of wish you had the footage so we could see.
It is possible to do ONE gen in 27 seconds, but not FOUR. Four survivors stacked on a gen uninterrupted could do it, or 3 survivors with Prove Thyself or BNPs.
This guy went against hackers though. Save the footage and send it in to the devs.

I've also noticed some sound issues with the desync. Had a Bubba right next to me while I was looping a pallet at full health but I couldn't hear him rev up the saw. Scared the hell out of me when he just plowed right through me.
Yeah I went against a Blight a few days ago who didn't make any noise when he slammed off walls. Between that and registering hits from different time zones the match was impossible. That was the last match I played. I'll be back when they finally fix this issue.
-
I stopped playing days ago because killers kept swinging their weapon from the opposite side of the room and causing me to spurt blood.
Either BHVR finally broke their game completely or killers have learned some sort of crazy new forbidden jutsu.
-
Nope. I stopped playing days ago because of this very reason.
I'll be back if/when they fix this issue. Today's hotfix seems to mostly be about stopping Cheryls from glitching their linked cosmetics though, so I'm guessing it's going to be more of an 'if' than a 'when'.
-
After last week's update it's worse than ever. Killers are now regularly hitting survivors from 5 feet away. I stopped playing and won't start again until they fix this.
And the new UI is awful.

drop the item to counterplay franklins
The problem with this strat is that you have to win the match and then retrieve your item before you escape. If you die without your item you lose it, even if you have a White Ward or the Weaved Ring addon.
Not a complaint, mind you. I love Franklins and think there should be counters to strong items.
-
Weird. I'm a big fan of Franklins but I don't like to use it on event items. I'll only bring it with certain killers and only when there's 3 or more medkits/keys. The greed of survivors to reclaim their lunchboxes is unreal.
-
I want any chapter that came before this mid-chapter update.
-
Yes. Not only did their changes all make the game worse, but the new desync issues have made the game completely unplayable.
I've taken breaks from DBD before, but this is the first time in 4 years where I've had to step away from the game because it flat out does not work anymore.
-
Rank 1 killer main here who uses Dead Hard every time he plays survivor.
Yes DH is strong, but it's also the most skill based exhaustion perk. It is not OP. It is not "press E to outplay". Dead Harding for distance is useful and can be clutch in a pinch but you have to plan and route it correctly, which if we're being honest is true for every exhaustion perk.
Most of the killer games I play people panic and goof their Dead Hards. Most of the time you can bait it out. When someone does DH the last few feet to a pallet I don't get mad. I think, "nice Dead Hard" and then I win the match anyways.
Also, can we stop with the 'PC players are using macros for their DH?'. I'm not trying to start a PC vs console fight, I just don't like it when people make accusations of cheating with no evidence.
-
I'm appreciating all the fresh air I'm getting now that DBD is unplayable.
Don't worry devs! I'll come back if/when you fix this heinous desync issue.
...and fire the person who designed the new UI.
-
It's not toxic but it's not really smart either.
I'm a pretty chill killer who goes out of my way to play fairly and frequently gives hatch when survivors play nice. T-bag me and that option is off the table.
What's boggling my mind right now is that all the toxic t-baggers I've gone against recently have been objectively bad at the game. I've had survivors insta-throw every jungle gym pallet and then t-bag. I've had survivors t-bagging while looping me around their hooked teammate, preventing anyone from getting the rescue. I've had the lovely karmic feeling of watching a survivor t-bag me 3 feet away from a bear trap they're about to walk into. And then every single one of them DCed on death hook. Champions of the people, one and all.
All of this was just last night, by the way.
-
Killers lose emblem points if they're within 16 meters of a hooked survivor, but only if there aren't any other survivors around.
It might feel crappy that killers don't lose actual BP, but fear not. That facecamper is definitely not going to pip.
-
Bugs in DBD?
Unfathomable.
-
The point of hex perks is that they're high risk/high reward. They give you much more powerful benefits than regular perks but can be cleansed to remove those benefits.
If you don't like them that's totally fine. Play without them. That doesn't make them pointless though.

I've applauded virtually every update the devs have made (except the Billy nerf, and I don't even play Billy). So it's not that we "hate change".
The problem is that the game is a mess right now. The devs are scrambling to patch bugs, they have a million changes they've promised like MMR and key nerfs that are coming "soon" (TM), and instead we discover that they've been dedicating their resources to changing the UI.
The old UI was simple and elegant. Virtually everything you needed to know was in one corner of the screen. The new UI is a hot mess, which come to think of it is a pretty good metaphor for the state of the game right now.
