  • Killers have craploads of techs.

There's the general ones like tractor tech, TL tricks, and specific mind games you can play at tiles like jungle gyms.

Then there's the map specific ones like jumping onto lockers/pallets from the top of coal tower, jumping the hole in the floor on Badham, dropping through the window on Disturbed Ward.

Then there's the killer specific ones. Doctor can lock survivors into the killer shack. Trapper can use traps to avoid getting pallet stunned. Hag can use her traps' camera spinning effect to make survivors miss vaults or doors. Legion even even has a forbidden tech that lets him avoid his frenzy cool down if he gets blinded while vaulting.

Right... but I was referring to team mates who are NOT being chased, but still don't do objectives, in order to save DS 'just in case'.

I haven't seen anyone doing that so far. Doing nothing for 60 seconds is massively inefficient, so high ranked survivors won't be likely to do that. Low ranked survivors don't need an excuse to do nothing.

I'm still using DS in my survivor matches and still getting value out of it, so this idea people are having that the perk is useless now is bunk.

It's an anti-tunnel perk, not a free invincibility perk. Let's all just take a deep breath and adapt.

  • But Huntress only gets 5 hatchets compared to Trickster's 60. And she takes way longer to throw them.

I don't even know how you can compare the two.

    Nerf Trickster

  • Speaking as the one Hag player on the planet who doesn't trap hooks, most survivors don't know how to play against Hag since she has a pick rate of 0.00003%.

The number of survivors I've encountered at red ranks who simply don't know that Hag traps and PH trenches can be crouch-walked over (or as I call it, the poop-scoot method) would astound you.

Or maybe it wouldn't astound you. Maybe you would be completely non-astonished. It's still a lot though.

  • Survivor:

Adam with DS, DH, Kindred, and Windows

Killer: I play a lot of killers and use different builds on all of 'em. My favorite two at the moment are-

Bubba with BBQ, Pop, Ruin, Surveillance (no addons)

Trapper with STBFL, Pop, Surge, and Discordance (any bag addon and setting speed)

Im the kinda belndy who runs quick and quiet, Iron will, lithe and dance with me and just disintigrates mid chase

It would please me to pretend to be pissed off by you.

Sounds like a fun build though.

See... as someone who probably has spent way more time on the "low tier" killers than I should to see if I can make them work... most Killers have at least something they have that can royally mess up the Survivor team in the right context.

Legion's Frenzy might not look like the most impressive ability in the game, but a good set of chain hits will waste so much of the Survivor's time. Throw on Trail of Torment and you might be able to get more good chain hits even after good Survivors know you're Legion.

A lot of people say that Myer's kit is out dated and needs buffs. I don't necessarily agree. Him starting off as literally the stealthiest killer in the game and later being able to flip flop between a very tiny 16m TR and Instadowns and a crazy lunge all have their own value. I've very rarely found a Survivor team that can handle everything a Myers can throw at them in a single game.

I poured 2.5 hours into Trickster last night. Honestly I just don't see much of anything there. Against good Survivors, he's just got nothing to throw at them. Everything with his knives is too easy to counter and unlike Huntress, Plague, and Deathslinger, he can barely punish brief screw ups. Now... he actually is more lethal than Deathslinger or Huntress. I've seen it myself when playing him on the PTB and against friends who are green rank Survivors. If you stay in the open too long he can cut his way through health states far faster than they can. Heck, vs one of said friends I caught him in a large dead zone and cut through 3 health states (syptic) before he was able to get to safety. The problem is that no Red Rank Survivor will get caught out bad enough to catch 24 knives with their back. They just won't. And when they don't, he's got nothing else.

That's the difference, at least to me. Nobody is probably ever going to claim Legion or Myers is S tier, but even they seem miles better than Trickster and better equipped to handle good Survivors.

Legion and Myers are still among my favorite killers. I call Legion with Dark Devotion my Magician's Build, because I can Frenzy all 4 survivors, slug the obsession to go undetectable, and then clutch the match all at once (ta-daa!).

As I've said, I don't play ranged killers, but I'd imagine that people will find some fun tricks to pull off with our new giggly T-poser.

  • There's a certain class of Blendette who use Sprint Burst, Urban, Spine Chill, and Self-Care and then just play super-immersed.

In all honesty they're God's gift to killer mains, but it pleases me to pretend like they piss me off. And then to extend that faux-rage to all other Blenderinos.

...as I said, I've got issues.

  • @dspaceman20 said:

Because I was playing as a Claudette.

Ooooooooh... I've been known to tunnel Blendettes.

Not because I hate Blendies, but because it pleases me to pretend to hate Blendies.

...I think maybe I have some issues.

  • A certain low-level twitch streamer (no naming names) slugged me until I bled out as Huntress because after my teammates were dead I healed mid-chase with Inner Strength and then bonked him with Head On. When I asked him why he said his chat told him to.

...but then I watched his VOD. He straight up did not have anyone in chat, and after I locker-bonked him he called me "Satan the Devil" and bled me out because I "wasted his time". I'm still proud of that.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/239138/how-many-of-you-play-both-sides

I got the game in 2017 (I believe don't quote me) and when I first got it, I lovedddddddddddddddd the aesthetic of Nurse. I wanted to be a Killer main and realized I sucked really bad lol. So ever since like mid 2017-2019 I was exclusively a Survivor main playing Killer every once in a blue.

Now I love playing both, mostly Killer because I love Hag and Huntress but I don't really play Killer as much as I want because of all the baggage that comes with it.

I still think the most visually impressive killer in the game is Spirit. Her disconnected limbs, the shards of glass embedded in her skin, her weird floating hair, and the way she summons that slick glass katana impressed me so much that I mained her for a year or so before all the negativity against her started dragging me down. Still love her aesthetic though.

  • I got the game in late 2016 and play roughly 50/50. I still consider myself a killer main though. I'm rank 1 killer and high red ranks on survivor.

  • @sleepywynd said:

Now obviously he needs a few things, notably being:

A 5% speed boost to his base speed

Knives bouncing off walls base kit

No recoil (or at least VERY little) as recoil on a knife-throwing character is absolutely senseless... they're knives... not a gun. Guns have kickback, knives do not. Nothing has recoil in real life unless it uses explosives (in one way or another and no, a bouncy castle does not 'recoil').

However, people (from my experience) are playing him completely wrong. I watch as game after game, he just pulls out his knives at the start of a chase and hopes he's gonna hit 16 of them on you before you lose him or loop forever (spoiler, throwing like a fool won't work). He. Is. Not. Huntress.

Throwing knives aimlessly in a chase (even if you eventually m1) loses value as the common melee that you could've hit (probably sooner) allows for your knife pressure to increase substantially. The survivor vaults while injured? 3-4 hits, they pallet camp? 2-4 hits. Easy down. The point being, knives shouldn't be used at the start of a chase (usually). They need to be used selectively to pressure survivors into mistakes and/or out of loops and pallets (unless you're on midwich, in which case, go off with those bouncing blades).

While far from perfect, there is something to be desired in his unique control over loops and enclosed rooms/areas. People slip up when m1ed and on 6 knife hits as they're only trying to get away.

Sidenote, David King could totally brawl the guy.

OMG, I totally want to see a throwdown between shirtless David and Trickster now.

I haven't bought the chapter yet, because the only killers I straight up never play are the ranged attackers (Huntress, Slinger, and now Trickster). I still enjoy playing against them though, and I figure if Trickster doesn't vanish into obscurity people will be figuring out how to use him.

I'm also weirded out that so many people on these forums are enraged by this chapter for the exclusive reason that the killer is weak. IMO it's okay for BHVR to not make every killer S tier. Especially coming off the heels of PH, Blight, and Twins, I'm absolutely fine with being given a killer who's weaker than the average. He still seems fun to me, even if I won't be playing him.

  • It'll be a very niche build. Most killers aim to win the match before gens are completed. 4 endgame perks gives you no value for most of the match and is basically a tacit admission that you're not good enough to stop survivors from completing their objectives.

There's also the fact that No Way Out and Blood Warden can just be waited out by skilled survivors, just like Corrupt Intervention can be waited out at the start of the match (Corrupt is still really good for a lot of other reasons though).

  • I'm okay with it. Even if it is an 'exploit', I feel like it's good gameplay, so if survivors pull a high level trick like that on me I'm just gonna congratulate them on it.

  • This may sound like patronizing advice, but remember it's just a game. When the game first released I was ready to quit after 20-30 hours of playtime and a string of embarrassing losses. I ended up watching some streamers to get some tips, and by far the most important thing I learned from them is that it's a game and you're supposed to be having fun. It's okay to lose; it's not okay to be an a**hole about it.

Other than that I'll occasionally take breaks and go on a walk when I have especially rough matches or face particularly noxious survivors. The worst thing you can do is throw yourself back in to take vengeance on the next team. Every time I go against a killer with NOED, an Iri mori, and Iri addons I think to myself, "Who hurt you and why are you taking it out on me?"

  • Learning to loop well and conjoin tiles is pretty key. Assuming that you're a killer main (based on your name and nearly 800 posts) I'm guessing you've already seen numerous examples of survivors looping well. Learn from them and practice. Learning to loop individual tiles well like jungle gyms and shack is important, but learning to conjoin tiles is what the best survivors do.

Equally important is learning good game sense from the survivor perspective. A good teammate spends a lot of time on gens in addition to getting chased. Prioritize splitting up and doing multiple gens. Tackle the central gens first to avoid getting 3 genned. Learn (through experience) when you should be slamming gens and when you should break off to get the save. Trust in your teammates to be altruism-crazy.

Scouting the map and remembering which tiles/pallets are where is very important. "Scouting" often just means looking around while doing gens to see what's nearby. When the killer starts a chase with you you should already have a plan on where to run to and how to loop them.

Also, don't be afraid to take a dive fir your teammates. Letting the killer hook you for the first time to draw him away from your teammates on death hook is super helpful.

Above all, be efficient. You need to do gens to win, so they should alaays be your priority. Nothing causes me more distress as survivor than getting chased for several minutes and downed only to see my teammates aren't doing jack-squat.

  • Shirtless Blight is gonna be super gooey and gross. I'll buy it.

  • Not to pile on here, but as a Killer main who plays both sides I'm still getting use out of the perk as a survivor against tunnelling killers while SWFs (and solos) that I play against are less able to abuse it for 60 seconds of invulnerability.

Overall a very healthy change and despite being 'nerfed' I'm going to continue using DS as my one second-chance/insurance perk to discourage naughty killer behavior.

  • DS gets nerfed. Blight and Wraith get buffed.

OP: When will BHVR start thinking about killers!!!!!!1!1

  • You can still slug them if they're bodyblocking, and now they can't rush to unhook their teammate with DS and BT. They have to trade hooks instead of getting the unhook for free.

I haven't played since the update, but for the past month since the DS change was announced I've been keeping track how DS is used both by myself when I play survivor and against me when I play killer.

My conclusion was that all the times I used it would still work after the changes, but most of the instances where it would be used against me would not work anymore.

Blocking for their teammates is good gameplay in my opinion, and not abusing/exploiting perks.

  • As a Blight main I like indoor maps like Lery's. I just don't like them as certain killers like Blight and Billy.

M1 killers tend to do better on indoor maps because the survivors don't have massive lines of sight to tell them which direction the killer is coming from. Those maps are also smaller, so there's less distance between objectives.

    Also, don't DC as killer.

McLean confirmed yesterday (again) that this is not intended and implies that it is being fixed!

Well, it only took them... *checks watch* ...7 months to fix Blight's FOV. I'll look forward to that hotfix in chapter 342.

  • Well, he came out yesterday, so people playing him don't have any good perk setups or any real experience with the killer. You and your teammates have 16 perks that you spent weeks/months grinding BP to unlock and have practiced playing with them.

That said, Trickster does seem bad. But it's still morning of Day 2, so let's let things calm the Eff down a bit before we all rage into these forums and...

    ...oh, too late?

  • I assume you're talking about the small window in main building? Loop in the opposite direction so it's harder for them to fast vault. If you have an anti-loop power, use it.

Or just switch targets. They can't stay in the main building forever and if they're chasing you around a single window for ages that's on you.

  • Beast of Prey is just 'press bloodlust to outplay'. Even though half the time it doesn't even work and you end up 'no TR on the ground'.

  • Dude it's totally OP. How am I supposed to Dead Hard when the killer has no red stain? Look behind me? It's too difficult to spin my camera with my stretched rez FOV.

  • Dead Hard is fine... and I'm saying this as a rank 1 killer main.

Everyone here saying it takes no skill and is 'press E to outplay' or 'undoes a survivor mistake' needs to learn to adapt.

95% of the time it can be easily countered. The 5% of the time when it can't be countered is when survivors use it perfectly. That just seems like good gameplay to me. I respect it.

  • I'll agree with this, although it's not a universal rule.

When playing by the Survivor Ruleboook (TM) against good teams, I generally expect that the first 2-3 gens are gonna pop quickly and that if I have hooked every survivor and secured my first kill while there's still 2-3 gens left I'm on a comfortable path to victory.

New killers always come here to complain about how they lose multiple gens before their first hook as they fail to realise that's somewhat normal in a game where the killer gets more powerful over time.

That said, both roles can make a comeback, but especially killer. For all the games where I get a 4k with 4-5 gens left I'll occasionally have a match where I kill all 4 survivors after the last gen has popped.

  • I always give a gg wp or gg<3. It's common courtesy and good sportsmanship in a game where people tend to misread your actions due to the game's asymmetric nature.

Salty survivors are gonna salt, but you get a lot more positivity when you give some in return. You catch more flies with honey and all that.

I had a great chat with a team I crushed as trapper the other day. I didn't even feel disingenuous giving them a 'wp', since my Trapper works best against teams that know how to loop optimally.

  • People have mentioned that it's pretty easy to bait out.

It also takes 3 seconds to activate, so once you know a survivor is Q&Qing into lockers you'll be able to anticipate and have a much better chance of yanking them out before they charge their perk.

Also, the stun isn't as long as DS and doesnt require you to break or sidestep a pallet like after getting pallet stunned, so you can usually catch up pretty quickly.

It also denies them of using other exhaustion perks like DH or SB.

I've always felt like Head On was a bit of a one trick pony. Get locker stunned once, shame on them. Get locker stunned twice, shame on you.

  • @Kellie said:

It's considered toxic because it prohibits survivors from playing the playing the game for an extensive period of time, especially if the killer is doing it consistently.

That's why so much people complain about it, but I much rather be camped or slugged than tunneled.

But if the killer hooked you it would still "prohibit you from playing the game". You'd be dangling from a hook waiting for your teammates to save you instead of recovering on the ground waiting for your teammates to save you.

    I don't get this argument.

  • Survivors who let their teammates die to camp hatch and then tbag you on the hatch like they just won.

Getting chased for 2 minutes and hooked only to discover that my teammates aren't even working on gens.

Anyone who complains about Dead Hard.

  • Yes, it's a very strong perk. It also a teachable for Bill, who is a completely free character, so it's something you'll want to unlock early. His perk Unbreakable is also very strong.

  • @fogdonkey said:

Interesting... so far it looks like noone really cares about teabagging. However in many threads people are raging about "toxic teabagging survivors" :D

When people talk about "toxic teabigging survivors" they're not JUST talking about teabagging. They're talking about survivors who use every BM in the book. They're usually part of a boosted SWF on comms. They always have a map offering. They're playing 2nd chance perks: the game. Their teammates usually have BNPs and instaheals and keys. They'll often have OoO so they can tbag you from the opposite side of the map. They'll clicky-clicky their flashlights and tbag you at every pallet. Then even after you beat them by playing fairly They'll be super rude in the post-game chat and call you a trash killer and tell you to uninstall the game. And God forbid you're a lower ranked killer going against these creeps. They'll say "gg ez baby killer" and other nonsense. Their goal isn't to win, it's to bully the killer so they can feel better about themselves.

The kicker is that they're never actually all that good. They just hug super safe tiles all match while their teammates push gens. They'll drop God pallets instantly and then tbag because running to a safe pallet and pressing spacebar makes them 'a better player than you'. I've got too much skill and experience to let cretins like that bother me, but they're hell for newer players to go against.

  • Would you mind borrowing my terror radius for the next half minute?

  • I keep coming across this user named WarNung whose comments are incisive, witty, and well reasoned.

I'd bet he's also very handsome and a demon in the sheets.

  • Seeing survivors do this makes me roll my eyes so hard that I give myself a concussion. It's actually darkly comic, because you know they're going to be salty enough to start rusting your moniter.

Otzdarva had a moment in a recent compilation vid where a Laurie was standing on the hatch waiting to tbag and he phased over to her as Spirit and closed the hatch on her. The instant karma was precious.

  • Drops pallet while she's chasing you to make her guess which side you're on. Do the same thing with window vaults.

Avoid grass, crouch to make less noise (even when injured), and walk to hide your scratch marks.

Pull a 180 degree turn so that she phases right through you and gets confused.

Blend together these strategies and others so that the Spirit never knows what you're thinking or planning and can't predict you.

Best advice of all is to play her for a bit and get a feel for how her power works and how the game looks from her perspective. Alternatively watch some streamers. Tru3talent and fungoose have loads of educational videos of them outrunning Spirits.

  • Speaking as a former Doc main who still plays him a lot he's by no means a low tier killer, but he's not top tier either, especially at the highest ranks. Regarding the OP's points:

-Doc's ability to reveal survivor's locations just isn't all that useful at high ranks. Most survivors at that level don't stealth as they prefer to be chased. Also, high level killer players are really good at finding survivors anyways by using crows/blood/sounds and even just general game-sense.

-High ranked survivors will never miss his funky skillchecks, even if you bring Unnerving/Lullaby. They just have too many hours experience with them.

-His anti-loop is decent if you master it, but it's nowhere near the level of killers like Nurse, Spirit, Freddy, or Deathslinger.

Basically you're left with decent tracking, extremely poor slowdown (from snapping out of madness), and okay-ish anti-loop.

Don't get me wrong, he's still loads of fun and has a ton of fun non-meta perk builds he can use, but he's neither top tier or bottom tier.

  • They're definitely prettier, so that's something.

Breakable walls were an okay idea that was implemented poorly. O actually kinds like them on Dead Dawg and Badham (and to a lesser extent Midwich), but they're really bad on the original maps (Autohaven and the estate maps - I forget their name ATM).

The Game looks super dope but plays like a survivor main's wet dream. God pallets every 3 feet and breakable walls that are the worst in the game.

I haven't played the new Crotus maps as much but they seem fine. Father Campbell's Chapel seems more or less the same, bit other than some dirty setups near the shack it wasalways pretty balanced. Disturbed Ward now has a much better main building for killers, which I actually don't like. Mindgaming people in the asylum was too much fun. I wish they'd just made the map a little smaller so that gens weren't so far apart.

It all looks nice though, so there's that.

Edit: Ormond is a little better, but it's still one of the better survivor maps.

  • Huntress is one of the highest skill level killers in the game. Her movement speed is 110%, so if you're getting frequently destroyed by her it means you're going against some high level killers, which is not surprising given that you're playing on a Sunday morning when only the most devoted fans are online.

Then again since you have nearly 1500 posts maybe you're trolling. Or maybe you're just an idiot.

    I can't tell.

  • @xEzekanarioX said:

People saying now that DS still works in a locker. I mean... Just dont tunnel? Worst part is when you ask those killers if they tunnel and they say no, its a meme.

If the killer were going for me after being unhooked and i dont want him to counter my ds (slug), then i would go to a locker to defend myself, because i cant do anything now while ds is active.

Oh, and im a killer main, seems like it works as an argument as well in this forum telling whats your main, besides the gold words "i play both sides" XD.

Speaking as a fellow killer main I love when survivors jump into a locker fresh off the hook. Under almost any other circumstances I prefer not to tunnel.

When a survivor jumps into a locker though I'm more than happy to pull them out, eat the 5 second stun, and let them escape. The next time I catch them though I'm going to tunnel them off the hook and eliminate them.

While I do so I'll say to myself, "Hey, wouldn't it be crazy if there was a perk you could bring to stop me from doing this, but you wasted it over some silly bull****? Too bad for you. Oh, you DCed? Get outgamered then."

There are those who think they are gamers, then there are old gamers like myself who just looks at it as another list of challenges I've faced in a long list of challenges I've stepped up to in my decades of gaming.

But... I also enjoy games like Dark Souls, so I might just be a masochist.

    Preach, brother (or sister).

Don't worry, us fellow Dark Souls masochists stand with you. Playing killer may be more challenging, but it's ultimately more rewarding.

Plus, I've noticed a massive correlation between Dark Souls fans (myself included) and killer mains. Best guess is that we love overcoming adversity.

  • I'm currently using:

    -Discordance

    -Surge

    -Pop

    -STBFL

It's a very aggressive build. With no Corrupt you don't have any time for setup at the start of the match, but the Disco/Surge/Pop combo is nuts at helping you defend and regress gens and Save the Best is an absolute beast of a perk in the late game. You can do a lot of exciting clutch plays.

  • It's still not as good as the OG HUD, but it's loads better than what we got after the mid-chapter update.

They put all the info that they had scattered around the screen back into a single place (even if it does take up more space now) and got rid of that horrendous objective text.

The only thing I actually like about the new HUD is that they fixed skill checks so that they're not constantly dropping frames anymore.

  • If the killer plays well and loses and goes AFK at the end I'll sometimes run to them and give them a kill to be nice. This is pretty rare though.

More often I'll see killers who play badly and get stomped on. I'll take my 5k escape points and move on. I feel sympathy, as I'm a killer main myself and I've been there.

At the same time, there's much respect for them for losing with dignity rather than playing with NOED or facecamping.

But still... 5k points is 5k points.

  • First sentence you wrote was "sPiRiT hAs nO cOuNtErPlAy". I skipped the rest.

Stop beating a dead horse. Maurice doesn't appreciate it.

  • It's not bannable, but is standing still and doing nothing while waiting for a survivor to show up really fun for you?

Because that's... really boring. I play loads of Bubba at rank 1 and I'm increasingly of the opinion that if you play him skilfully he's actually kinda busted strong.

If standing still and watching paint dry is your idea if a good time then... fine, I guess. But maybe try pressing the 'w' key. Stretch your legs a bit and actually engage with the gameplay. See if that fits your groove.
