Honestly, I think your problem is more about playing solo-Q than about survivor in general.
Speaking as a killer main, there's a vast difference between playing against coordinated SWFs and solo players. I've been playing since 2017, and medkits have ALWAYS been the strongest item in the game.
The nerfs were necessary. Medkits are still very strong, but now you can't get 4 heals plus a syringe out of them. There are other good ways to heal. If you're a solo player, I strongly suggest the perk Bond to find people to heal you. You can thank me later.

You're really not, but okay. 3% Haste has nothing on 15% Hindered (Clown) and nobody gets juiced by Pig.
Bruv I've played a lot of Pig and you would (probably not) be shocked by how many survivors get demolished because they don't know the simple law of Booping the Snoot.
Seriously though, Pigs are legally required to let you go if you give them a boop. It's in the survivor rulebook.
Back on topic though, MFT is an extremely powerful perk. I won't say it's OP, but I will say that I hate it because it makes me paranoid. If I'm having trouble catching a survivor I don't know if it's because they're running MFT or they're just cracked or if they're subtle hacking. It's genuinely unfun to play against, and it needs to be nerfed at least a little bit because it gives survivors too many benefits with absolutely no cost.

The backpack build is toxic! I was doing the archive to carry survivors 180 metres far and then this happened:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/9EGNCP3Z39YK/20230812203121-1.jpg
Kate later wrote: "Shame on you." because I was using this build. A bit hypocritical when she was the one that actually disconnected from the match but I guess someone as toxic as me shouldn't complain. 😉
I'd say this SWF got a bit unlucky. I understand that they weren't happy about this but calling this a toxic noob build and later on implying it's overpowered goes a bit far. I gave the Steve hatch but it turned out that was a mistake. The things he wrote are very much in line with those you can see.
This is probably the most funny match up I've had until now. I didn't even look at their items in the lobby. It just kinda happened.
Have you had similar moments where you either countered the killer's or the survivors' builds?
Champion, you played backpack build against a 3-man breakout squad. You literally hit the jackpot on that one. And the fact that they were salty about it rather than enjoying the irony?
*chef's kiss*

No.
I started playing in 2017, and back then the only difference between Macmillan, Coldwind, and Azarovs was that the different realms had a different colored tint (and also that Coldwind had corn).
The newer maps each feel visually distinct, and although the DBD devs have something of a checkered history the art team have been killing it and have been consistently upping their game (with the notable exception of Borgo. That map is ick).
I've never understood the goobers who were upset that the updated maps no longer have a colored tint. Tint or not they look a lot better. Period.
-
For Nemesis:
Green or yellow addon: Alpha tyrant
-zombies no longer spawn in the match
-vaccine crates no longer spawn in the match
Basically any addon that reduces vaccines would be rad. Having to consistently hit survivors 3 times is crushing considering how situational his tentacle whip is. And zombies are 95% useless anyways.
-
Comparing a AAA single-player/co-op RPG to a multiplayer-only AA asymmetric horror game is like comparing apples to grenade launchers.
And for the record, you can say what you like about Behaviour's attempts to keep their game fresh and balanced (it's been pretty checkered), but nobody can deny they've been putting in the hours. Plus the game has overall improved a lot over the past year.
-
If your friend is having trouble understanding the killer's power than my recommendation, as always, is to play as him and figure it out from his end. At the very least, you can watch some YouTube vids of people playing him.
He's a decently strong killer and although his power is quite complicated, he has plenty of counterplay once you understand it.
Check out Otzdarva's videos for some in depth analysis... Or just check out Otz because he's awesome.

I disagree. I think the perk without endurance and haste stacking is healthy for the game. It's an alternative to exhaustion perks. Friendly reminder that Overcome exists.
What M1 killers are you referring to that are so weak that this perk significantly impacts them?
What M1 killers are disproportionately affected by MFT? A lot.
My main shout-out would be to the Doctor, mostly because I play him a lot and his ability gets absolutely trashed by MFT. His power is finicky enough that even once you get good at him shocking survivors at pallets requires super-tight timing. Survivors moving 3% faster throws that timing right out the window and makes his ability feel supremely useless.
Other killers who get their timings thrown off by this 3% change? Off the cuff, I can name Wraith, Hag, Nemo, Trickster, Freddy, Clown, and Pig.
That's really the big problem that I have with MFT. Top tier killers like Nurse and Blight don't really care about it. It's only the weaker M1 killers who get disproportionally affected by it. Do we really need a perk that only punishes the weakest killers?
-
I started playing in late 2016. Put in 3000 hours until a year ago after MMR, when I uninstalled. I reinstalled about a week ago and am having some fun but am considering uninstalling again.
I'm a killer main and I quit because MMR turned my favorite party game into an unbalanced comp game. I'm considering uninstalling again because I'm playing a lot of M1 killer with no meta perks and I keep getting matched with comp teams that predrop, rush gens, and then t-bag me at the exit gates. I just wanna goof off and have fun and this isn't that game anymore.
-
As a killer main, you learn to ignore most of it, but it can get exhausting and stressful when it feels like you're getting either salt or BM in nearly every match (especially since I'm one of the most chill killers out there).
That's why it's important to just be nice to people. On the rare occasions I get positive feedback - or even just a 'ggwp' - it feels completely revitalizing. That's why I try to pay it forward and try to spread positivity. The toxic players aren't a majority, they're just the most vocal minority. The way to combat them isn't by calling them out, it's by being positive and empathetic.
-
I wouldn't say that camping against Reassurance makes you an A-hole. I would, however, say that it was probably not the correct decision to make. Choosing to camp when you know the survivors are running anti-camping perks seems to me like you're just setting yourself up for failure and frustration.
I'm not saying this to be insulting. It's hard to Monday morning quarterback when I know so little of what went down that match, but if a survivor is hiding near the hook for the specific purpose of using Reassurance then letting them get away with it is just giving this player exactly what they want.
-
Holy Crap I did not expect that to be an actual thing.
...is it co-op?

Anyways - I hope something brings you back to the game, even if it's to try a PTB out here and there, good luck playing whatever sinks it's hook into you next.
Thanks! I'm totally open to coming back if I see some vital improvements. In the meantime I've been trying out the newest Monster Hunter with some friends. Honestly I find it kind of shallow. It's fun - but when you're with friends you can have fun playing Paint Drying Simulator 2017 (tm).

Yeah! I hate having to constantly hold M1 to mend.
I much prefer other killers, where I just have to constantly hold M1 to do gens, or hold M1 to heal, or hold M1 to open gates, or to open chests, or set up boons, or to....
-
I've spent 5 years playing the game with a minimum of meta perks just to try and keep things fun for everybody and build positivity, but starting this past weekend the level of intensity from SBMM finally made me revise that - and I'm not happy with the results.
Trying to play killer with M1 characters like Legion or Sadako becomes an exercise in frustration because every game I get slapped with survivors bringing 4 DHs, strong items, and slamming me with 2nd chance perks. It makes me desperate to see survivors running literally anything else
But then I play survivor and half my games are against Nurses with absurdly powerful builds where if you don't bring DH you just die immediately.
Clearly everyone is playing as 'sweaty' as possible because that's the only way to stay competitive, but it's now making me feel like a dupe for trying to be the odd man out, which is especially enraging when survivors clobber my weak killers by giving themselves massive advantages and then tbag me at the exit gates.
After 3000 hours in the game I'm getting super fed up and am seriously considering quitting for good. Don't worry though... Even if I leave there are still *loooooads* of other killer mains still playing the game.
-
I'm kinda agreed, but probably for different reasons. The devs are doing the best they can, but they never accounted for SWFs on Discord.
That... and there are too many elements that can sway a match. They can never truly make the game 'balanced' or 'fair', but they can keep it being fun, which is what's most important.
-
Oh, I thought you were talking about Wraith. Thou shalt never stop me from Bing Bonging.
Spirit's new music is pretty cool, but if you think THAT'S distracting you should try straining your ears for footsteps with Nemi's heavy-metal thumper of a chase music going off.
-
Probably not the weirdest salt I've ever gotten, but it happened just the other day:
I'm playing Wraith on Storehouse. I was using goofy off-meta perks but the survivors brought 2 BPS so I was feeling pretty charitable towards them. Then I got my first down really quickly and she insta-DCed, so I started feeling REALLY charitable towards them. I went out of my way to be as chill as possible: Chase and hook the Claudette, then the Kate, then the Dweet. Give them a chance to regroup and heal, then start again with Claudette. No chance they were gonna do all the gens, but at least they got something resembling a normal game that would earn them a lot of points.
Gets to the end of the match and I bring Dweet to the hatch, except that he crawls away from it. So I shrug, kill him, and wish them ggs. The Dweet then goes on some incredibly long rant about how bad I suck. I won't reprint it here; no doubt most of you have heard the same kinda things more than a few times.
Still not sure what peeved him off so bad. Guess he just needed a punching bag to vent on. Except in this case the punching bag was laughing its butt off at his attempts to land a hit. I figure that's just about the only way to fail at punching a bag.
So yeah... that was interesting.

Nemesis Tentacle is not a second CD to use.
A full second before he could fire is an absolute death sentence compared to the change the devs have stated (0.4). It's still bad that he can't quickscope, but jesus some of you just want to murder killers.
According to the wiki Nemesis does take 0.35s to charge his whip. I always thought it was closer to a full second. So yeah, quick revisement: If Slinger took 0.35s to ADS and 0.4-0.5 seconds to cancel out, isn't that a pretty reasonable change? As I said, you can still nail people at windows so long as you even partially predict it. And the increased movement speed while scoped should help make up for the delays.
-
I'd imagine it'll be fairly reasonable, maybe a second to ADS before you can shoot, and maybe abother second to cancel out. More in line with Nemi's tentacle whip or Demo's shred. You'll still be able to nail people at windows, but you'll have to predict it *slightly* better rather than reflex reacting.

I had a group of them recently and they sounded like rattlesnakes. I couldn't grasp how quick they were able to click them. They spent all 15 minutes of the game clicking them like it. They think they're very clever/funny bless em
They remapped the flashlight to the scroll wheel, which is why they can click so fast.
They're not usually trying to be toxic. They want your attention because they're near a safe loop and want to be chased, or they're trying to distract you because their teammates are healing/repairing nearby.
Ignore them. As long as they're following you around clicking they're not doing gens, which means they're not a threat. Usually they'll get desperate enough for attention that theyll make a mistake and give you a free hit.
-
Even if they improved the zombie's AI they'd still be pretty useless, and I don't like it when when killer abilities are so RNG based.
I'd rather they dropped the zombies and buffed up his tentacle strike to make it more consistently useful.
-
Also, is it really all that embarrassing to lose an online multiplayer match when you're still learning the ropes?
If a survivor BMs you because you're inexperienced then that's on them, not you.
-
I mean... it depends. Most of the killers have at least a bit of a learning curve, so you're going to struggle for a bit and lose some games while you figure them out. That's okay though, at least for me. Turns out the more complicated killers like Blight and Huntress are also more fun and satisfying.
We killer main go through this every time a new killer is released: we're trying to get a handle on their power while also not having many perks to work with, but we're still being matched against red rank survivors running the same 6 meta perks. You get past that phase pretty quickly though.

Alchemist's ring is ridiculous. It does nothing for new blights and when you consistently hit rush attacks you just...win harder. Compound 33 had its nerf already, I'd miss speed addons but he has so many good ones I can live with it.
They may gut him eventually but considering how long it took them to deal with spirit I think I'll be rushing long after your standing still days are gone ;)
I'd be happy for the devs to nerf Blight's addons if they can just stop him from sliding off of every other wall.
Given how much I love this game it makes me sad that my greatest wish is for BHVr to make the game functional on its most basic levels.
-
I've been playing DBD since the start of 2017 and I frequently take 2-3 month breaks due to the toxicity.
I've only been playing regularly for a couple weeks now but I'm already thinking about taking another break. Ever since MMR hit I'm seeing the same meta builds over and over, which is wearing me down very quickly. And at high MMR I'm getting tbagging TTV players in half my matches.
Props to the perkless Blight who demolished me last night though. I love Blight, but playing him perkless takes real testicular fortitude.
-
I don't think Oblivious is all that useless, it's just a bit situational.
What annoys me is that killers like Demo and Oni still make giant clomping footstep sounds that survivors hear from a mile away when they gain Undetectable. Yet Nemi loses his footstep sounds. This should be standard for all killers.
#nomorefootsteps
-
I would say that Trapper is one of the few killers that gets little value out of Ruin. If you're taking time at the start of the match to set up, you're frequently going to lose 1 or 2 gens very early. Corrupt would be a better choice than Ruin if that's your playstyle.
My build is Surge, Pop, STBFL, and Discordance. It's a very aggressive build as it doesn't afford you any time to set up at the start of the match. You have to place traps on the fly, but it's excellent for snowballing survivors out of existence.
You get bonus points (and bonus BP) for using the padded jaws addon to farm STBFL stacks.
-
If Dead Hard is a "free second chance" that "takes no skill" and is just "press E to outplay" then why do 99% of the survivors I play against goof it up or get easily baited into using it?
-
Agreed. I fell out of love with Plague back in the old days when the meta was to never cleanse and push gens hard. Now that she gets a free fountain she's fun to play again because people actually give you your power - or they refuse to cleanse and you use your free fountain to snowball them.
Def one of the better changes the devs have implemented.
-
Off the top of my head, the hill bug. I was usually nice to survivors who got stuck in the hill, but I once saw a survivor get stuck, another survivor run up to push them out only to get stuck with them. Then I ran up as killer to save them and got stuck right alongside them. So we just hung out in the hill for a bit.
-
It doesn't actually have lingering hitbox. It hits twice: once when you extend it and once when you retract it.
-
I don't like this fixation people have that every new killer needs to be A tier.
Nemi is solidly in the middle of the pack in terms of power. He's not as strong as PH, to be sure, but he's fun to play and I'm still winning 90% of my matches with him.
Also, with respect to Otz, I think Nemi's power is a bit more in line with Demo than it is with PH. I've found a lot of success with faking my power to make people dodge around for an easy M1.
-
I've got bad news for you if you bought the DLC just for the map: the map is actually free. You don't need to spend a dime to get it.
The DLC is the characters and their perks. Which you now have! Congrats! They're pretty fun!
I don't know if you're newer to the game (which is fine if you are! Welcome!) but virtually every new chapter launches with bugs like this. It's always been there, but the pandemic has exacerbated the problem somewhat. They'll fix it when they can.
The reason you can't pick maps without an offering is that it would be unfair to your opponent/s. Certain maps are better for survivor and certain maps are better for killer.
You CAN pick maps if you play a private game though, so if you and your friends just want to play on RCPD (once it's released) you can do that. You won't get BP for it though.
-
Look, I don't want to victim blame, but if you leave that badonkadonk hanging out someone's gonna peep on it.
Also, you get to play against Myers? I thought I was the only one left.
-
I would disagree. Looking specifically at killer perks, the ones I think of as being strongest tend to come from original characters, with the exception of BBQ and STBFL.
NOED is free, Ruin/Devour are Hag perks, Pop is a Clown perk, Discordance is a Legion perk, Plague has 3 massively underrated perks (Corrupt, Dark Devotion, and Blood Echo), Starstruck comes from Trickster.
I could probably think of more, but the bottom line is that as a killer main I don't think licensed characters have especially powerful abilities or perks.
-
Sabo-ing is a fun gimmick, so try it if you want, but it's not a consistent or reliable strategy. I frequently see people trying to sabo the minute I pick a survivor up and counter them simply by walking to a different hook. In order to sabo correctly you need a very specific build:
-Alex's toolbox with sabo speed addons
-Breakout
-Dead Hard
The technique is to follow the killer to the hook and body block it, take a hit, then sabo the hook and dead hard away while the killer is on attack cooldown.
I went against a team of 3 the other night who were all running this build. I countered it by taking my free hit against the sabo-er then dropping the survivor I was carrying and chasing after the sabo-er for an easy down. They got 1 successful save out of maybe 10 attempts and in the meantime gave me so many free hits/downs that I overwhelmed them.
Which brings me back to my original point: It's a fun gimmick to try but you need an entire build and it's not consistent or reliable.
-
They do. I'm currently using voth those perks with POP on my Nemi. If you get all 3 perks on a single gen you can regress it a total of 39%, which is kinda evil.
-
Having taken a blast mine to the face I think the perk is hilarious. Keep it as is but maybe add some celebratory confetti.
-
I've been getting some value out of it as Nemi. It's not great though.
I do love that they got rid of the M1 requirements. I hate that M2 killers get locked out of so many perks because you need to M1 to activate them.
-
I got it on my first try but I got lucky (and went out of my way to 3 hook everyone). His perks are pretty mediocre but he seems very map dependent. Go to the right map (try Swamp or Ormond) and he can hit survivors over everything.
-
I'm enjoying it so far. Nemesis isn't top tier but he's pretty fun.
I got hit with Claire's super-flashbang in my very first match. It was VERY funny.
-
He seems okay so far, but I'm still figuring him out. Initial impression is that he's like Demo but with way less range and way shorter cooldown. Also he has to hit people 3 times.
Like Demo the key to success seems to be faking your power and mixing up your M1s and M2s. Also like Demo STBFL is God Tier on him.
-
I had a great match as Bubba the other night.
The first thing I noticed jumping into the lobby is that all 4 survivors had TTV handles and were playing Dwight with paid cosmetics. They also had 2 keys and 2 toolboxes, which is a rank 1 killer's nightmare. However, it occured to me that they were trying a little too hard to look like a sweat squad. So I prepped for a sweaty match while thinking they were probably just goofing.
Turns out I was right. The two keys were green. The toolboxes were brown. No addons on any of them. The first thing they did in the match was ditch their keys to loot medkits.
We ended up having a super fun, chill match. They played pretty well and I have the last one hatch. Then we all stuck around in the post-game chat to say nice things to each other.
Now we're all in a polyamorous relationship. Quadruple the Dweets equals quadruple the fun.
-
As someone who plays a lot of Hag I actually kind of like the idea of letting survivors disarm her traps without a flashlight. It could be interesting.
My thing though is that when I play Hag I almost never trap hooks because it's kind of oppressive and not very fun for survivors (and if you're a skilled Hag you really don't need to do it). Whenever I play against Hag though I get unskilled players who chase to get their first down, put every trap around the hook, and then just hover nearby.
I think one really positive change they could make is change it so that Hag can't place traps within 8 meters of a downed or hooked survivor. This would keep newer Hags from learning to rely on hook traps but give Big Brain Hags a chance to pre-trap hooks.
-
Play Bubba without addons until you figure out the muscle memory of when to use his charges. Every time he swings his chainsaw he grunts, so the basic timing is 3 grunts/swings, use a charge, 2 grunts/swings, use a charge.
Using your chainsaw is most effective when survivors are in the open, but make sure you're less than 5 meters away before revving. You can also use his chainsaw to force pallet drops. Just pre-rev before you reach a pallet and make sure you don't get so close that you get stunned while revving. If you do it right the survivor will have no choice but to give you the pallet or get greedy and eat a chainsaw. You'd be amazed how often survivors get greedy. Once you get comfortable with his saw you can start doing mindgames with it, doubling back around loops to get survivors to vault into you.
Demo's portals aren't all that good, so don't focus on them. His shred is easily his best asset. Winding up a shred makes survivors try to dodge and serpentine, much like Deathslinger. This makes it way easier for you to catch up to them and get an easy M1. If they run in a straight line or run through a chokepoint then you can pounce on them.
Hope this helps.
-
I actually love playing against sweaty teams, but then again I have about 2500 hours in the game over the past 5 years.
I think your first goal should be to redefine "fun". You're right when you say that matchmaking and ranking systems are borked in DBD, but you don't need to win to have fun. In fact, assuming you're not as experienced as many of your opponents, you shouldn't even expect to win a lot of the time. But you can still have fun in the moment by playing your best, making good plays, and learning from experienced survivors.
Your second goal should be learning to multitask all 4 survivors. Great survivors can loop any killer around God loops for several minutes, which is enough time for their teammates to win the match. It's totally okay to give up on a chase if a survivor makes it to a strong position. Most of your hits/downs will happen when you catch someone out of position. Bring a couple of really good information perks like Discordance, Bitter Murmur, Tinkerer, BBQ, Rancor, etc. and start working on learning to keep track of multiple survivor locations at once. That way, if you have to switch targets, you'll be able to find your next chase instantly.
-
Wait... this isn't a Sluzzy post? You really think Bone Clapper is OP?
Please tell is next about how Clown is Freddy 3.0
-
Speaking as a killer who gives hatch ALL THE TIME, I'm very selective in who I give hatch to. The Claudette Srlf-caring in the corner all game does not get hatch guaranteed.
