There was never any plan for us to introduce voice communication, nor is there. It's not something we wish to do ourselves especially as there's many other methods for players to communicate with their friends.
Many people also bring up balancing when they talk about bring solo level up to SWF level by voice comms, which completely disregards the fact that not everyone speaks the same languages and that server regions cover areas with many different languages. We have discussed in the past how to bring solo survivors up to the level of SWF, and I believe that this is still under discussion.
Your actual friends - typically - will speak your language. Assuming that's not the case it's beyond stupid if you ask me, and just a way to deviate from the actual topic.
Does Voice Communication provide an edge against many killers ? Does it give an advantage versus no comms?
If the answer is yes, then adjust the perks accordingly or we must be honest with ourselves and admit a good chunk of players are essentially cheating. People don't like the word, I get that but...

Note that at the beginning there is a question about playing ranked mode together to which the answer is no. That is not about SWF but about what ranked KYF would be. That might be where the confusion about whether or not SWF was planned is coming from.

Even then, voice comms is a separate story entirely.

Discord released in 2015, I made my account before DBD even came out, and a whole year before I started playing even, you are talking absolute nonsense lmao.
Still it wasn't as popular, people were using also Teamspeak back in the day, so what?
If Discord closes tomorrow that's also planned By Behaviour right? They accounted for it since inception too, "anectdotically".
I wonder what People in Nintendo Switch would do, or whoever does not want to use Discord.
SWF with voice comms is colateral damage and unintended. And it's cheating. People just hate to admit it.
That very same people, accidentally, will cry about "nurse breaking the rules of the game". The irony.

This guy is a waste of time.
Have played since beta, SWF was always intended and was implemented before it was even ready.
This is the "due to popular demand" -- you're clueless.
You can plug your ears and stomp your feet like a toddler all you want, playing with friends was and never will be cheating.
Learn to read before "giving out". I am talking about SWF + voice comms in particular. SWF is a separate story.

The devs set the rules of the game. They've said many times swf isn't cheating. So no matter how much you stomp your feet and cry about it swf is still not cheating.
The devs set the rules of the gameIn code. Do you see voice comms in the base game? no. You use Discord.
SWF using voice comms is cheating, SWF is just unfair but not totally broken, can be tolerated. Voice comms is cheating.
People already tune nvidia settings, also "stretched resolution" was a thing too. Clearly nothing to do with "The Rules of The Game".

No, it is not good to slug all 4 survivors for 4 minutes. What are you on? DS can only be a minute tops, and you'll know which survivors can potentially have it. If Unbreakable/Soul Guard is an issue, you should hook them because slugging forever allows them all to crawl apart and then pick each other up. For Deliverance, the obvious answer is to hook the ones who aren't on first hook first, and then get those ones last so you can monitor them. And if they're all on first hook, none of them can have it. Same deal with Adrenaline; Adrenaline isn't going to do anything if you just hook them, but it can do something if you slug everyone and someone gets up.
And frankly, even if one of them does bounce off hook in some fluke, you've already won the match and it'd take something massive for them to successfully reset after that.
There's no reason to do a 4-man bleedout unless they've made themselves unhookable and are refusing to move closer to hooks.
It´s intended by developers since release. Confident there is even a Q&A about that.

People hang way to much impact on stuff like this.

My prediction is basically nothing grand will really change.
There will be a mix up of perks for a bit. The crowd will settle on a new meta.
The same people will complain about the same things they always do.
DBD will continue to be just as fun or unfun as people make it for themselves.
I’m looking forward to the perk shake up if only to see some build variety for a bit.
This is from a player who plays a bit of everything, every killer, multiple survivors in solo and in swf when folks are up for a game.
Kill your friends will still be the most fun format because you’ll get a consistent game with people you know and enjoy playing with.
Kill your friends will still be the most fun format because you’ll get a consistent game with people you know and enjoy playing with.Who plays that though, barely no one? to be honest I thought it was a dummy button. It gives you no progress or bloodpoints, and if you want to test things out you normally go to the PTB.
This is how is see it.
SWF => Absuse WITH Friends. => lot of people
KYF => Abuse YOUR Friends. => no one plays this
SoloQ => Play The Game (but Good Luck with the unbalance created) => average and new players

I don't believe what devs said there. In fact, I am telling you they lied there in that interview.
1- It was implemented after Kill Your Friends, which has the same technical challenges.
2- Did not ship with SWF initially but something similar was implemented soon enough (after popular demand, not before).
3- Voice Communications are not native to the game many years after. Does not sound like "planned" to me. It all comes from Discord or Steam built-in features that appeared years after the game was released (or if you play in Epic you don't even have it on the Epic launcher).
Furthermore: intended or not, promoted or not, I am telling you that SWF + Voice Comms give you an unfair advantage and it is essentially cheating.

You then spent like 10 posts trying to sugar coat it. Somehow. Yet, we need to always read threads in various forums about how Nurse "breaks the rule of the game", a Killer which is considered a base Killer which is part of the code and not a third party plugin. Like I said, bullshit.

It was according to plan, I already posted the devs talking at great length about how it was according to plan, and your claim that this was something that was developed in three to four weeks from scratch with no testing is incredibly far fetched. And them saying it was added by popular request is true because it was requested well before release as well. That doesn't mean they suddenly got so many requests that they added it in three weeks with no testing at all.
And by the way, the dev chat I posted is from 2018, well before that 2019 patch you're citing, so I have no idea why you think survivors weren't playing in swfs on comms from 2016 through 2018.
It was never according to plan. It was after they released the game, after having Kill Your Friends and by popular demand. From a technical standpoint KYF and SWF are virtually the same: but one gives you nothing nor allows you to abuse, the other one allows you to cheat and have advantage in the game. I do agree though it's nice to play with your friends to the same game, but using voice comms is just not right and people use it.
And by the way, the dev chat I posted is from 2018, well before that 2019 patch you're citing, so I have no idea why you think survivors weren't playing in swfs on comms from 2016 through 2018.Because Discord was not that popular back in the day, I suppose. Players need something easy to use when doing Voice Comms because the game does not support voice comms natively. As it would be blatantly cheating, and again, because they never had it planned in first place.
You have been bullshitted and I have explained you why and how. Now it 's up to you to have personality or believe in their tales years after the facts.

Dbd's live release was June 2016, version 1.0.0. Survive with Friends was added in patch 1.0.3 July 11 2016. So one month give or take between the game's live release and SWF being added. You really think they added a totally new game mode in one month without it being in development before that?
The third time I am telling you. The networking code was already implemented, the lobbies, the match making it was all already there. You are telling me they had Kill Your Friends but SWF was a technical issue hahaha please. It´s pathetic.
SWF was a tweak rather than a full blown feature. Yet still, from my link above:
Following popular requests != according to plan. SWF as it is now is from 2019 though it seems.
Nevertheless, SWF is a mistake when it becomes to balancing the game, specially when people say "Nurse breaks the rules of the game", I suppose we refer to the Entitled Survivors Rules of The Game.
Think about it. Why on Earth would you not release the game with SWF from the start if it was so much intended, and then you do like a month(s) later "because technical issues", absolute bullshit. Plus, SWF in patch 1.0.3 is not quite what we know today.
SWF today is simply Abuse With Your Friends. Which is the reason no one plays KYI because Abuse Your Friends is not the same as Abuse With your friends.

You honestly think they had a game mode "Kill Your Friends" at release and then just a patch or two later had "Survive With Friends" ready to go in that short a time without it being something that was already in development?
Patches are Updates to Dead by Daylight . The following is a list of all the Patches that have been released for the Game since its release. The release dates are from the Steam version only."A patch or two later" how long is that in months or years? As you can see there on my link, on 3.2.0 was merged as SWF in 2019 so from 2016 that is nearly 3 years. Sure there was a version of SWF after popular request and not because they had it there ready to go and planned. Like I already said, the networking code and the lobbies were already implemented so turning on the feature had virtually no effort and it had to be a game decision.
As we can see however, this has nothing to do with Kill Your Friends, so no similar fashion. At all.

Lol, sure, it's just a big conspiracy and he made everything he said in the video up. 🙄
There is no conspiracy. They did not make SWF from the start, the rest is just bullshit to make up for it. The don't wanna admit it, it's fine.
I am sure they could have discussed or talked about it, but it does not mean it was INTENDED TO BE THERE, but the opposite is true, they knew deep inside the design of the game was not made for SWF and so they did not do it, until somehow they changed their minds.
Still an error. Clearly. Except for the amount of players and money it provides to them on that regard that was a good decision.
but you are telling me that they didn't do it because "technical issues" my friend... the networking and the coding side of things including match making was already implemented if they wanted SWF since the beginning they could have put it anytime with virtually no additional effort.
In short, like I said, they made all that up.

From the DBD Dev Q&A session 2018-10-16
"Is using voice communication an intended game mechanic? As in was it designed and balanced for this game in regards to solo survivors and killers?"
McClean - "That reminds me of a neat anecdote. Because I often hear that Survive With Friends was not intended and was only added due to player complaints and player demands. And I was there at the time. And also I think our game director talked about this last time he was on stream. The Kill Your Friends mode and the Survive With Friends mode were always intended. It's just that at the time we only had time to do one of these modes before release and we chose Kill Your Friends.
I've seen that myth out there quite often so, no, from the very beginning we intended to let people play with their friends. That being said this is a game where we try and have this horror atmosphere and sense of isolation, there's no spoken dialog in the game, it's lonely and quiet except for the pounding drums when you're about to die. And that's all intentional, it builds up the feeling of the game. But realistically this is a game in 2018, we're not going to tell people you can't talk to your friends while you play the video game. ... (To Stefan) You've often talked about the desire to lessen the gap a bit by giving more information that a coordinated group could have to solo players.
We don't have a lot of details of what that looks like in the future, we've talked about lots of crazy ideas. ... (For instance) It used to be that if you weren't the killer or the Obsession you wouldn't know who the Obsession was. Now you do and you can get some interesting information like the little entity arms wiggling when the Obsession is being chased. That's information that a Survive With Friends group could have easily given each other but now solo players are able to do that. I would love to see some more subtle things like that and maybe perhaps some bigger ones in the future. Nothing to announce on that end.
But to bring it back to the comms, was the game balanced for them originally? I don't know I'd say it was or wasn't really...?
Stefan - "I think when you look at how much the game has grown over the last two years and how much we've learned about how the game plays and how the mechanics play out, I think it's adjustment period. Comms we knew were never going to be shut down, we just didn't want to have it be forced on players. We didn't want someone to fire up the game and hear someone. We didn't want Trapper to be chasing someone and hear 'AH GONNA GETCHA GONNA GETCHA' and be like 'Just shut up, man!' That's what chase music is for! 😄 I don't think that's something we want to go towards.
McClean - "I would say it does affect our game design now where we're not going to put design where it's going to hinge on some survivors knowing something while other survivors don't. And now when we work on other mechanics we always have to ask ourselves how is this going to work for a solo group versus how is this going to work for a coordinated group. We do keep this in mind these days, even if it's not 'the intended' way to play we have to acknowledge that's how people do.
https://youtu.be/gTpZSllfMmw?t=549
So bottom lines are:
- SWFs were always intended to be in the game, they just got delayed a bit at release due to time constraints
- The devs fully expected people to play in swfs and use comms, and over time think they got a better handle on what that meant in terms of how the game plays out
- They have no problem with people using comms but also don't want to force people to use comms, and they like how the game feels in terms of solo survivors being isolated so they don't want to discourage people from playing that way.
- They do take solo groups versus swfs into account when designing new content.
My reading is, the guy made that all up. They likely commented about it and reached out the conclusion that it was not a good idea, then they changed their mind for profit.
They then put in place a stupid Q&A and talk to you - a random fanatic from the Internet - about "myths" and what not.
In short: it's mostly made up. Plus as some other user was saying above, they also said in an interview that SWF was untested and not planned initially. Yeah, devs say many things like go play Civ 5 and "we did a good job so far".
SWF was not intended as it never made it to release. Period.
Sure then skins were also intended of course just like giving away the game in Humble Bundle because no one was playing it.

For other Killers to verify and eventually drop the perk if it is malfunctioning. Since devs don't seem to care as much with reports for cheating or bugs unless they are so obvious and exploited that they get forced to check.

This is a big lie.
SWF was not intented because it wasnt avalible at release. People used to jump between lobbies until the got matched (No crossPlay on that moment). DBD was a failure and players stopped playing like one or two months later, the game was literally dying and they decided to make a master move, SWF.
They never tested it, NEVER. But the game was dying and that was the best idea, they released SWF with zero balance, with zero care about how killers will be abused since that moment until now.... And today, 5 years after the worst idea on this game, they still not balancing SWF because they know that 60+% of players are using this cncerous feature and nerf it is loosing money.
They already said it on a interview - There is nothing we can do to balance the game around survive with friends, we could loose a huge amount of players.
So please, do not speak without info.
THIS. But they don't want to admit that SWF+voice comms is CHEATING and at the same time and Survivors want to nerf Nurse "because it breaks the rules of the game". It's just sad.
Also Nurse had several nerfs and it's very hard to use.

She definitely breaks the game, she literally teleports through every survivor defense (windows & pallets), still not the same as calling it cheating, though.
Show me these threads comparing "unfair play" to calling it cheating, you're obviously can't because you know survivors aren't literally calling killers cheaters for tunneling or camping etc, they definitely call it unfair and unfun, but calling it cheating they're not, this is cringe lmao.
The Nurse is a base Killer of the game. And does not break the rules of the game because it´s part of its code base.
Discord and voice communication does give you free perks, aura reading and advantages that do break the rules of the game. The game has no in-game chat or microphone chat. Playing SWF gives you an edge, but is tolerable - yet the game mechanics don´t really apply the same when SWF are in play. Using voice communications is directly cheating, there is no point in trying to sugar coat it.

What point are you making here? Can you show me the swathes of threads calling NOED, Nurse & Killers cheating? People are entitled to moan about whatever they want whether you agree with them or not, if someone wants a little moan about Calm Spirit, they're entitled to, but it's not even on the scale of lying to yourself and trying to convince yourself that something is cheating when it isn't.
SWF was always intended, as they've discussed many times, and with SWF comes comms. Also with the development cycle of Dead By Daylight starting where it did, a pretty small company back then probably didn't have the means of implementing it cleanly, the game was also P2P which makes it harder, especially when the killer is host, and then comes along Discord before Dedicated servers get added and there is almost no point in adding in game comms and adding more spaghetti code to the game.
Can you show me the swathes of threads calling NOED, Nurse & Killers cheating? There are countless threads about "nerf Nurse" who "breaks the rules of the game". So no, I don´t need to do so, everyone knows yet Nurse is a base Killer.
There are plenty of complains from Survivors saying that Killers "cheat" "play unfair" via Camping and Tunneling, too. Survivor even invented the words even though... it´s base mechanic and its allowed by the game rules.
-

Except with adding SWF they clearly meant for you to talk to each other, no company on planet earth adds a "play with friends" option and doesn't expect you to use voice comms, that would be silly.
If that was the case there would be voice comms in-game implemented by the house. The game was not designed originally with voice comms in mind, or else, there would be at least a chat inside of the game during trials, too.
Fact is, Voice Comms give an unfair advantage, you can call it cheating or whatever you prefer. I don´t care what devs say. It´s like when people obsess not to "shame and name" people who cheat... like if they would care.
Also it´s fun how people defend devs when they say SWF is not cheating then you refer to rules and what not, but 90% Survivors moan about NOED, Nurse and Killers "tunneling".

For you..
the devs promote playing with friends. They give you the option. They have a discord so you can play together. They have a section here to help. Find players. Just because people can talk and play together in a video game doesn’t make it cheating. Cheating is actually hacking into the game and giving your self 1 second heals at all times. Playing with friends in a video game where the people that Made this game encourage doesn’t make it cheating.
One thing is promoting SWF or allowing voice comms. Another thing is that it gives you unintended or unfair advantage vs other players including the Killer. SWF + voice comms is unfair against Killers and Solo Q and it does not matter what the devs say or try to implant in players head.
Does it give an advantage that you would not have outside of the game or give you free perks? YES IT DOES
That is cheating. Plain and simple, you can sugar coat it? yes. We can all agree and do like if it wasn´t and sure devs don´t like people pointing the obvious when they don´t have a solution.
But the fact is the fact.
-

Devs already said it wasn’t cheating. So nah
Devs say many things. That´s clearly incorrect. They take plenty of wrong decisions, and that´s plain lying.
- You gain aura reading for free.
- You disable plenty of Killers for free (e.g. The Trapper) or stealth Killers. Including Wraith.
- You coordinate better and make informed decisions that break the balance towards survivors. Too many gens, killers cannot pressure enough so information is crucial.
- Better combo an item selection on lobby.
... and I can continue.
That´s pretty much like running a hack to gain soft speed.
edit: the only reason why SWF is "tolerated" is because it brings money to the game in the long run. Just like when it was free in Epic Store or Humble Bundle many years ago.

Yeah because every swf is a sweat squad or bully squad. Still don’t get how playing with friends is “abuse” when the devs promote it. There is even a section on the forums to help you find players. And you can dodge your own lobby’s as killer when it looks like a swf so. Idk why they need to tell you. We all know that every killer would dodge a swf and only play against solo que players for easy games because solo que is terrible. The people playing with friends would never find a game. Thus leading to this games demise. Your ideas to penalize players playing with friends may help you but it hurts this game in the long run
Still don’t get how playing with friends is “abuse” when the devs promote it.To clarify that, because SWF play with voice comms 99% of time. Which is cheating, literally.

Yeah man, sometimes I wonder I am crazy or what with that, like you know 4 Survivors can be everywhere but man... the whole freaking time even from the start does not make much sense.
This last game I was in the opposite gate in a large enough map, the distance from Gate to Gate should not be covered by Whispers... yet two Survivors escaped and Whispers was lit.
The bug with people that DC and then Whispers is still active (or even you can hear their screams) is totally confirmed. The other behaviours does not always happen.

Whispers range is 48 to 32 meters depending on the level. Where are you getting 25 meters?
Whispers´´´ aka purple, I use it in 99% of my builds. I have noted recently that in matches it was lit 100% of time which I found odd, but also, the fact that sometimes it stays lit near someone that disconnected and/or died on the hook is also super problematic.

You've never worked in game dev of any kind have you? ######### that you would never expect to cause an issue can cause issues for things you wouldnt expect it to effect for seemingly no reason sometimes.
I have.

I've been saying most of this game's issues stem from it being an elimination game for a while
No the problem is that they made weak Killers and very strong Survivors, and then the cherry on the top was doing SWF to allow for voice communication. See how no one plays Kill Your Friends.
-
Problem is playing Killer would still be dreadful. Too many loops, too many pallets and impossible chase... hooking gives you little reward in this version, imagine one like that.
Anyway, I haven´t read your post fully, but I can tell you there will be no DbD 2.
They tried with Deathgarden and that was rather a failure of a game.

You should probably put this post in bug reports instead of general discussions.
No one cares, if they cared this wouldn´t be broken at random YEARS after the game is online, plus, it´s such a simple mechanic that it makes no sense for this to be bugged. I could understand other bugs but Whispers? No, this should work flawlessly.

people playing killer on 100+ 4k streaks
Lies.

It´s impossible to pressure generators, I am ok if they manage to do them in 3 minutes if I felt like I had a chance to pressure.

Oh yeah. It’s strongest in the hands of good Survivors. Its a crutch for some of the best.
Wouldn’t be shocked if some super high MMR players quit the game over losing Dead Hard.
They will quit rather than play Killer, tbh.

What we need is the ETA for the SWF removal. It is time to rework SWF who break the rules of the game in line with all the other solo-q players that play without voice communications. Can we have a date on this please?

Dead hard is gone, halleluiah!
and now killers have received some nice buffs, and it is now time to rework nurse and bring her in line with all the other killers who cannot break the rules of the game.
Can we have a date on this please?

They will killers have already been complaining about que times I wouldn't say 30 but anywhere for 15 to 30.
I only play Killer pretty much and I have zero issues with queues. Nearly instant.
Europe.

Killer queue will go up to at least 30 minutes, AT LEAST. Lots of SWF will give up soon as well since all fun/balance is going to be taken away, only the hardcore sweaty SWF's will stay (which is around 1% of the survivor population and not 99% like killer mains make it out to be). I hope mainkillers will enjoy their huge queue just to get their 15 minutes of power fetish. Im out.
a BIG THANKS to BHVR for cutting my shackles, i can leave with 200% certainty now knowing that i will have more fun elsewhere!
gl to everyone that stays!
Sure they will LMAO

Where you take your times you don't seem to take account survivors has to find the gens. Important for killer is to find first survivor in less than 20s and get him in less than 30s. Usually one gen gets done while you hook but if you use any slow down perk you can stop other gen from getting completed. Still most survivors don't play optimally so you have to just take advantage of that.
With a map and aura reading that´s hardly an issue. Plus you can see them and you know where they are as long as you have a few hundred hours. Or if you play SWF it´s all trivial.
-
Given you have to search for the survivor, hit, clean your weapon, chase and hit and then pick up and bring to the hook anything past 20s is already really bad for a Killer.
If they unhook the Survivor and you have to chase them all over again you have this:
Up to 6 hits for 3 hooks. That is three chases... because you know "tunneling":
- 20s per chase would be 60s and a generator is done in ~90s.
- +5 to bring the Survivor to the hook (+15s total or more)
- +2s to pick the Survivor from the ground (+6s extra)
If they body block, you fail to pick up near a vault location, etc. That´s extra 20s easily.
And so, if a chase lasts more than 20s you can pretty much give up against a SWF team coordinated doing gens, if Survivors are overly altruistic and you let them, you are going to lose, too.
However:
- If the Survivors are not very good, you can over extend up to 30s but you will have to proxy camp.
- If Survivors do gens in parallel, and they keep at it, they will be doing three generators for a single kill.
But otherwise with a chase of 20s you will be spending 324s chasing four Survivors and generators are completed in 360s - that is reasonably tight for both Killers and Survivors that are not playing using voice communications.
