I'm not sure what the community's personal experience with the update has been, but mine has been awful.
As someone who enjoys running off-meta builds I was excited to experiment with the new survivor perks that had been buffed with this update. Unfortunately I didn't really get the chance to use them in more than half my games because I kept getting Nurses who (no exaggeration) had all of us slugged on the floor at four gens. It was as though the game hadn't changed at all and confirmed my fears that Nurses would become more prevalent since this update only makes her even stronger than before.
The base kit BT is laughable and did nothing in the games where a normal BT would have saved a survivor from getting tunnelled. It is very easy to wait out a five second BT. Since DS for some reason is now laughable as well (with a 3 second stun you may as well be stabbing them with a crayon) tunnelling was much more prevalent in the matches where we weren't all immediately slugged. I did not see OtR often if at all so I can't comment on that perk rework.
Gens take 90 seconds to repair now and killer gen regression has been buffed in a few areas. Although I find the gen speed decrease a fairly monotonous way to make the games last longer (who wants to hold a button for even longer than before?), it is understandable considering the amount of games I had pre-update where gens would fly in a single chase. No killer should experience that. Despite these changes, the killers I had took advantage of longer gens to instead camp out survivors because they knew now they were more likely to get away with it. Or they hard tunnelled at the start of the game even though in theory they should no longer need to to perform well at high MMR due to the buffs they recieved.
What I'm trying to get at is that I feel as though the update has changed nothing at all for the better from the survivor perspective. I'm sure killers are having a blast with these changes, I would be too, but ultimately for me I can't help but feel let down. I went onto the game yesterday hyped and quit it after a couple hours absolutely miserable. It is a shame. And I feel as though these changes were not made with solo queue players in mind. Playing solo queue is already a detriment as it is hard to coordinate and mistakes can be very hard to come back from. With these changes a single mistake could very possibly end the match for everyone. I understand that killers are supposed to be strong and feared but the best matches are the ones where it is not clear which side will emerge the victor. I don't want to play matches where effectively the game is over for us in the first couple of minutes because we have little chance of coming back from a mistake due to increased gen times etc.
All these points all in all have made me finally uninstall the game. Perhaps I am being cynical or got incredibly unlucky games but this update for me feels like it has done nothing to improve the game. In fact it has made it worse. Feel free to disagree with me, I know some people are loving the update and I'm happy they are. I just wish I could enjoy it too.
Maybe I'll be back for the next chapter. Who knows.
Narrator: the Survivor was crying about Nurse, but never drop a tear for SWF on Voice Comms. That was fine, or that she thought.
-
Narrator: but it wasn´t Killer sided, they just thought it was. They did not know what was coming from Discord.
-
I hear you man, it would be nice to have all Killers like M1 The Trapper but with powers like Spirit so that it becomes BLIND once starts chasing you. Right?
edit: if Nurse is OP, Discord is 10x more OP.

Whats the new killer meta?
Didn´t hear? The new extra 0.2s from Thanatophobia.

It isn't, and if you think it is, you have no idea how to play.
It is. You are just too noob, playing against kids or 0 rank people sure looks easy... for now. Maybe you have faced people doing achievements and not playing to win. I can also do the authority falacy.
Play against Discord coordinated friends, that´s a separate story.

@Tactrix said:
You guys don't see what's about to happen do you? Because Gen Rushing was addressed but tunneling and camping were made worse, this game will be super killer sided now. And for every killer who thinks that's a benefit think it through. Survivors will quit. Not slow down, QUIT. When that happens your que times will triple. But that won't fix anything, because the game will still be broken and killer sided. The only people who will not get 4k are the ones playing into SWFs or baby killers. And from that point you will see a heavy decline in the population of this game. Because as much as you laugh about survivors quitting, you need survivors to play this game. So have fun with that.
Narrator: but that never happened, because the game is still Survivor sided, by far.

The developers always treat this game like survivors are some AI and always baby the killers when they dislike something,
The developers always treat this game like Killers are some clowns and always entitled survivors when they dislike something.

you lost a lot of skill overnight then. Imagine having harder games with all those basekit buffs on Killer
It must be. But I am being honest, last 4K I made were 4 alive cocky Survivors healing on EGC and gates open, which takes more Skill than it seems haha.
-
It´s intended. there are two "Experiences" the "SoloQ" experience and the "Survive With Voice Comms" experience.
You can choose one or the other at will - as Survivor - as Killer you don´t get to choose.
People complaining about Solo Queue are just selecting the wrong Experience. if you don´t like that one there is no point in keep playing that Experience. Pick the SWF+Voice Comms Experience. Different levels of difficulty.
I think devs did a pretty good job so far separating these Experiences for Survivors, my issue is with the fact that Killers cannot adjust accordingly nor select their Experience.

I have been playing around 40 Killer matches since the new patch. Every Killer in rotation with average Addons and 1 slowdown perk. These Kids cant reach endgame at all. This is not even fun anymore, it feels like I play against bots.
And no, Im not low MMR. I was always 4king 80% of my matches before but I actually had to bring some meta, sweat and work for it.
Now I dont use meta, dont sweat and just chill while hearing to music.
I disagree. My games as Killer are MUCH harder now.

I see quite a lot tbh when I play Survivor, before the patch even. And I have run it a few times just to use something new.
I don´t do gen slowdown builds, pure adrenaline-aura-gokill builds only (also lightborn if they go flashy which is 75% of time) where every second counts for me, while Survivors eat pizza and peel coconuts during gameplay.

Play the Survive with Friends in Voice Comms experience.
You just selected the Solo Q experience where even running Kindred matters.
So obviously it's a harder mode.

Yes yes, because the clip of the survivors lasting a whopping 35 seconds against a Nurse wasn't proof enough that she was previously an issue and even now more so
If they are terrible to die in 35s that's a one off thing. Not the usual trial. I once hit an entire team with a Bubba using the chainsaw, probably shorter match than yours so what? There are Lemmings playing we know that.
And if you hook on 35s but don't kill then you still have 11 more to go, assuming they won't heal.

Hi, I'm sorry, I'm a little confused. In the first post I quoted, you said that you expect SWF's to be communicating and to expect it as part of the game, but in this post, you're saying that SWF's communicating is not balanced and never can be - which seems contradictory. It seems like it's a part of the game that's supposed to be there, but it's also unbalanced and not fair. Why is an intentional game mechanic then intentionally unfair? It comes across as saying "We know SWF is unfair, but you have to deal with it, sorry."
I'm fully, 100% supportive of bringing up solo-survivors to the level of SWF's and then balancing Killers around EVERYONE having the same level of information. But it's been 6 years this has been a problem and half a year since that player survey went out judging people's interests in giving free info to solo survivors. I'm skeptical this will happen until ~2024 and I guess Killers are just supposed to "deal with it" until then.
If Survivors have two experiences ...
"Solo Q Nightmare Mode"Solo Queue-
"Eat Pizza With Your Friends on Comms"SWF+VoiceComms
And we know both have different balance, and that SWF+VoiceComms provides advantages, and there is no intention to change that, at the very least I think it would be fair to make it so that Killers can also choose the experience they want, and not having to play against a bully 4SWF squad that swaps to flashlights last second in the lobby.
Now they might come with another diversion such as "that was referring to perks". Well, the point still stands. There are two experiences one gives you free perks the other one denies you the advantage others gain. Either way, the Killer always loses.
It comes across as saying "We know SWF is unfair, but you have to deal with it, sorry."
It does not come across, it´s EXACTLY what it means. Which was always known anyway, people kept pretending otherwise just like the "devs say it´s not cheating" - whatever, use another word or mechanism to sugar coat it. If we want to tolerate it, allow for Killers to know who are they playing against - even if as a kind gesture. Still unfair though.
Everyone says they don´t use the comms to get advantage, fine, then allow Killers to opt-in and listen to that chit-chat. However, not possible cause not built-in mechanism. Also, sometimes it would be useless as not everyone speaks English but still... you could "opt-in" or not.

To clarify here, Mandy was referring to perks that are helpful for players that don't want to play in a SWF, as the discussion was about communication in the game.
It was not a discussion regarding giving the Killer the choice to play against solos or SWF, there is no plan to make that happen.
It would be wonderful if Killers could also opt-in for listening what Survivors chat in order to improve everyone's fun and make the most of the chosen experience.
This is something you can do in KYF with your friends on Discord, if you want to know what the survivors are saying, however it's not going to happen in public matches.
Thanks Rizzo90, I personally understood what Mandy was saying perfectly.
Because of some perks being free depending on how you play - among other benefits (or disadvantages if you solo-q) - There are two experiences effectively: the Solo Queue Trial Experience and the Survive with Friends using Voice Communications experience, on the former it would make sense to bring Kindred but you are stupid if you do that in SWF+Voice comms since you will use a stronger perk in that slot, instead.
You have just said there are no plans for Killers being able to disregard SWF compositions, however, it is a concern that Killers cannot adjust builds accordingly, as a Killer I would love to know what experience I am playing against. Which could also contribute to change the way Killers present the trial.
To me, the SWF+Voice Comms Experience feels truly unfair as Killer. Unlike Survivors, we cannot choose.
This is something you can do in KYF with your friends on Discord
Sure, but no one was discussing KYF. The debate was entirely focused in SWF and later voice communications. For listening to my friends I don´t have to limit myself to KYF I could do it in any mode. Even if not playing with them. That´s a given.
The point is that if the chat is not so much of an advantage in the different "experiences" like people imply, then, it shouldn´t matter if Killers join the chit-chat, too. Then again the main issue here are language barriers, but it could be done as an opt-in.

Don't really seem that different.
Yes thana, plaything, and pentimento on legion and plague feels better, but it was already strong on them.
But corrupt still feels necessary. Playing multiple matches with and without and comparing the early games, it's not even close.
Gen regression perks still feel like a necessity. Playing without still feels like you have very little control or power throughout the match, and makes matches feel like an uphill battle the entire time.
It just shifted some of the necessity of certain perks over to other perks, which is what I figured would happen.
I don't really see the kill rates improving as the main issue killers have is still in an issue, which is map balance and overly safe tiles strung together.
Until that issue is fixed killers are still gonna have the same issues.
Gen regression perks still feel like a necessity.oh man, I get very decent results most of the time (before update) and I barely ever run a regression perk I am more into putting pressure by Killing survivors or patrolling until I find a Survivor and depending on the situation abuse altruism and proxy patrol or go for the hunt.
It does fill like you have little control, and every second counts. Not as relaxing as playing Survivor that much I can tell you. But you get used to it.
When I do crazy builds with 4 regression perks - for testing - I notice that yeah, gens are longer up but I have harder time to Kill so ultimately they finish gens. Maps are huge with a ton of pallets, and to kill, you have to chase eventually.

In conclusion everything is fine so far. Is subject to change though.
That perks is pretty much like it was before, a bad turn from a Killer in a corner and the buff time is wasted.

@Sluzzy said:
BHVR actually did it. A perk in a horror game that is supposed to be used to dodge a hit was actually nerfed into uselessness. A perk that required immense skill in situations that required precise timing against many things that could cause it not to work (ie. server lag, killer connections). It is not fun to use now.
90 seconds to repair gens is not something survivors need or want to do. It is not fun to sit 90 seconds. Constantly nerfing survivors because of bad killers is causing the survivor role to be very unattractive and I opened the game today to play one game and clicked quit. 100% bonus points to lose against an overpowered killer is not enough incentive to play as survivor.
3 second stun against a Nurse, Huntress, or Blight is basically nothing. Any person disagreeing including BHVR needs to play survivor against one of these killers only one time to know. Decisive Strike and all of its silly deactivation conditions might be fun for killers but you feel very cheated as survivor and it is not fun. A 1-time use perk shouldn't be that weak. There is hardly any tools for survivors to use their skill and improve upon. Escaping is impossible against a killer that knows what to do.
Excellent killers do not have any issues winning an overwhelming majority of their matches. Balancing around very bad killers is not good for DBD.
That´s nonsensical. I have instant Killer queues, yet they suggest me to play Survivor.
3 second stun against a Nurse, Huntress, or Blight is basically nothing. So we want having to hit Survivors
(2+1)x4 = 12 times for each hook, so for three hooks each: a total of 36 hits to Survivors to 4K, minimum. Add healing, Deliverance, rescues, dh, bt, etc.
Yet, op is moaning because your crutch perk instead of 5s stuns for 3s only. Ok.

Buffing killers is nerfing tunneling and camping imo. Those are pretty boring tactics and when i feel like i dont need them i dont use them at all.
I havent felt the need to camp or tunnel at all since the patch and i feel like im not the only one.
I think that has more to do with the rank reset more than any other thing. It might not look like that but Survivors are the winners in this patch with the Dead Hard exception.

All that stuff you're talking about has counters. Thana? Heal. With circle and new botany you can even pull it off vs legion and be efficient. Jolt? Hop in a locker when you're about to go down. Good survivors do this to me all the time and it's infuriating. Overcharge? It's a bad perk. If you touch the gen within 14? 15? Seconds then it's not any more than base regression which is nothing. Pain res? Sabo let's you see scourge hooks now. Run it.
I'm super sorry that your might have to figure out new stuff to run besides dead hard, iron will, DS and unbreakable every game now. Change is hard.

IMHO, the current meta looks more like the old DbD. Which is when I started to play. I wouldn´t be surprised if the old flashlights are back one of these days.
Worse for Killers and better for Survivors. I know everyone has declared this patch as buff for Killers... but nothing far from reality and you all will see.
Same with the bonus for playing a different role, I don´t think the amount of players matter as much devs just trick everyone and personally what I think they have done is they offer you the role you normally don´t play. Now again, I don´t read minds and I can be wrong but I have learnt to read this game releases and changes.
Like with the plethora of suspicious bugs and op killers than a month after release are nerfed into the ground.

I guess you're right, but survivor mains tend to have lots of killer barely leveled at all, or sitting at level 50 or something. Either way I guess you just have to take my word for it. I've been fuming about Dead Hard for the past 3 months on here and am so happy to finally be able to ######### play M1 killers without getting robbed every single chase. I'm also very happy with no DS endgame, that was bullshit too.
Either way, I know it's a kneejerk reaction, the ultimate truth is we have to see what happens, in low mmr games, mid mmr games and high mmr games. I think everything below high MMR is gonna be a nightmare cause the majority of the playerbase are casuals who can't run the killer properly, and will never learn to do so.
That´s fine, I am happy about DH too, but the rest was a buff to Survivors. Realistically.
You might be super good or your Survivors super bad, but expecting to get 12 hooks to 4K it´s just nuts, happens only against people not playing to win or complete noobs. And so, adding 20s to hooks and preventing grabs is just beyond stupid.
My point was: a statement so stupid can only be said by a Survivor main.

I managed to get them to rush P3L1 on all of them from level 40 except the one I actually play in the last 2 months after they announced the prestige reworks, so they're also all P9.
At the end of the day you can always just disregard anything anyone every says by labeling them as a "killer main" or "survivor main" but that doesn't mean what they're saying is wrong. I actually play both sides, although it's 90% killer.
I'm very, very curious to see how the playerbase develops over the next few months. Look, I'm having a blast cause it's so easy, but I think the average killer won't just let people go, spread hooks and play nice when they're clearly meeting someone newer. I think we're about to lose a lot of casual players.
I wasn´t disregarding but you said "I think we can safely add 20 seconds to each hook stage and remove hook grabs." which is absolutely insane.
You do that and the game is done for. No more Killers. It´s an insult to anyone who plays the game as Killer, now, if you play against
foolsSurvivors Enjoying the Solo Queue Experience that´s a separate story. You may haven them in P3 or not. I could have P3 all my characters many times, never did. Reason? IT WAS STUPID TO DO SO AND LOSE EVERYTHING. So never did. So in your case, we don´t know if you actually play Killer or you farm with Survivors.
That´s what I do, all my Survivors are fed with bloodpoints from Killer games. And I am not a "Survivor main".

It's kind of messed up how easy it is to tunnel a survivor out now. I'll give you a little guide.
- Hit them as soon as they get unhooked, no OtR.
- DS is now a joke, so you'll probably not even see it. It's especially hilarious if do have it and they go into a locker. With Darkness Revealed you can blink on top of them in a single blink with zero effort.
- DH is rightfully nerfed, but if they use it you can always just bait it or wait it out now, they have to take a 50/50 between you swinging immediately. And the timing is incredibly punishing.
- Hit them again, down them, hook them, gg ez
I think we can safely add 20 seconds to each hook stage and remove hook grabs. But I guess we'll have to see how the killrates end up now that survivors also must learn to play without Dead Hard and all.
I know, I know, Nurse thread #35920539, but come on. This is ridiculous.
Survivor main detected.
I don´t consider myself a super good nurse, but I went from 0 hits ever to consistently getting crazy stun hits and because of that I play Nurse more. I have been playing Nurse quite a lot last few months (I freaking 4K with my builds and tactics and no regression builds but pure aggressive builds). And since the update it has been significantly harder.
You cannot rely on 12 hooks survivors, you make it against noob survivors and these toying around with you or with rituals, but you cannot put enough pressure with Nurse even, so without proxy camping or tunneling (now more complicated with Spring Burst and basekit BT) you are pretty much doomed.
If Survivors play seriously and they are any good, it´s going to be four escapes. I knew this update was a huge buff for Survivors ultimately. I told you so folks, I told you so.

I don't understand why this is suddenly a scourge upon the community.
Literally. If a Survivor drops near a vault location and you fail to pick him up, or you have to fiddle to be able to pick and not vault you have already wasted 5 times more than that "buff". Devs fool this community the way they want LMAO.

Like Killers who cannot choose between SWF+Discord and Solos experience, you - sometimes - have to play against the 'Skilled Killer With Nurse Knockout' slug build.
Part of the game and totally intended by Developers. And I also think it's healthy for the game.
Play another experience next time.
-
I posted this already but I will repeat it once. Since I was involved in the thread.
Do we know where on the roadmap are with regards to Killers being able to choose among the two "experiences"?
It would be nice to have an actual option in the UI (like a toggle option) where - as a Killer - you can choose between these two amazing experiences: "The Solo-Q trial" and the "SWF+VoiceComms" experience.
At the moment, Killers cannot decide who they play against and cannot adjust their builds accordingly either.
Nor you can hear what Survivors say; even voice communication is not native to the game and requires third party tools (also on console). It would be wonderful if Killers could also opt-in for listening what Survivors chat in order to improve everyone's fun and make the most of the chosen experience.
To be highlighted from Mandy's insight:
Perks such as kindred exist because not all players want to play in a SWF, there's the solo experience there as well which has been discussed in this thread.
It would be kind then if Killers were able to choose experience, too. Thus my comment above.
But for a short term improvement it would help if Survivors were not able to switch to four flashlights last second in the lobby when the Killer cannot edit the build.

It's not cheating. Just because an option to play the game with a random queue exists, does not mean that the intended cooperative mode is somehow cheating. Behaviour wants people to play together and communicate.
No they don't want it. They cannot do anything but to accept it.
The perk design and the core game mechanics immediately disregard what you say.
Now, let's accept people want to tolerate it, how about allowing it for solo-q? Even as an opt-in, natively supported rather than with third party tools (you may as well use your phone or Walkie-talkie lol).
If you want swf and comms, then drop the perks than make absolutely no sense and don't claim to be balancing the game when Killers are by default at disadvantage.
Again, let's remember people say Nurse breaks the rules of the game. I haven't seen devs saying that using Nurse is cheating either.

You don't make the rules, BHVR does. BHVR says it's not cheating. Ergo, comms are not cheating. When you start making the rules, then you'll have a leg to stand on but until then, please, stop arguing.
"Just stop arguing and making sense"*LMAO*. How old are you friend?I don't like to repeat myself but I will do it.
1) BHVR does not have the power to prevent voice comms. So they don't have a say. So they just acknowledge it even if some perks don't make sense or it is unfair to Killers. They can only decide to allow SWF or not. Nothing else.
Discord is not up to them. Your monitor brightness or filters are not up to them either.
2) Why is it not cheating exactly? Because someone says is on a stream? Such a childish argument.
Ask yourself: do you nullify killers and their perks? do you gain free perks and better coordination using voice comms than without it? Do you get free information on what the killer is doing and where he is?
If yes -> you re pretty much cheating, use whatever other word you like. Though.
You may as well then run a soft hack, stretched resolution, etc.

See my previous post for how voice chat usage could have been prevented completely and very easily:

I don't see any reason why they would lie about their expectation of voice chat usage in a livestream (on May 12, 2016) shortly before launch (June 14, 2016).

Or it could be that it was actually NOT intended. And you are just believing if their tales. Blindly.
Again, they never had a say about expectations. People were to use voice comms if they wanted.
They just said the only thing they could say. What did you expect them to say?
"Hey folks, play with friends, although don't use Discord that's too unfair."
That argument of yours is just childish.
SWF brought new players, prevented the game to die and is a source of money. They don't care if you cheat either as long as they earn cash.

But they expected SWF to be using voice chat. If they didn't want that they could have just added SWF and made it so there is no lobby where you can check who you are going into the game with.
That the game isn't balanced properly around voice chat and that there are still perks being created that are dead on arrival (example: Empathic Connection, almost completely useless if you are on voice chat) is a separate issue.

It gave me an excuse to post Mrs. Crocombe so that's a plus 👍

Or it could be that it was actually NOT intended. And you are just believing their tales. Blindly.
I repeat, they never had the option to decide if voice comms were allowed or not. They did not include it natively, a red herring.

But it’s mentioned time and time again that SWF on voice comms are not cheating.

People should watch the whole video, might find more useful info outside the swf stuff. 😂
*totally not making an excuse after accidentally not including timestamp from copy/paste of the comment I made the other day on another post where someone claimed it wasn't planned and being too lazy to go back to that post again to grab timestamp because I just woke up* 😂
Do we have one of these where they speak about voice communications playing against bots? Whenever they introduce the feature, if they do.

I don't understand what you mean. That livestream is from shortly before launch. They went into launch with the expectation that players will use voice chat (once SWF is implemented). What does that have to do with allowing/banning voice chat?
🦆🦂
They knew the moment SWF was released people would cheat using voice comms. Pretty much.
What I said is that they never had a say, it was never up to them to allow it.

You are looking at it wrong.
SWF gives no advantage.
Being solo gives you a disadvantage.
The powerlevel of SWF is what it should be. Balance discussions should be about Killers that are too weak / disadvantaged when playing against SWF and solo Survivor players having too much of a disadvantage.
🦆🦂
Okay, I can accept that then, it's stupid to add actions though and not voice comms and relying in third party setups for such "intended feature".
Also, then remove aura perks, are not needed for Survsis, and nullified for Killers. Also remove Killers lime the Trapper it's kinda pointless if you can pinpoint traps to others, etc.
Also make it so you can speak with ANYONE and ANYTIME no? Just like in say Overwatch ot other online games, they don't relay on Discord.
I mean at this point trying to defend it is just lazy and becomes ridiculous as soon as you can reason about things.
Devs can say what they want, imho, on that regard they are simply full of s*t.

Different timestamp where the developers say they expect people to use voice chat.
No voice chat between strangers because it ruins immersion.
"We expect friends to communicate as they want [...]".
🦆🦂
That's again bullshit, it's was never up to them, they don't have to allow or disallow.
Devs don't have a say. They cannot control it, so you may as well say "it's fine we don't care". That's why they say that, I mean seriously people let's grow up.
Same goes for hardcore camping, they don't want it, they even try to balance to avoid it. But they can't without destroying the player base with unfair rules for Killers. Solution: say it's just "intended" and all good, yet the old actual 'facecamping' was quickly fixed once they had the chance.
