Silent Hill nor Resident Evil fit. BUT the characters sure as hell do and I gotta say with the specific characters they chose 100% RE wins BUT with they way they went about Nemesis by making him act nothing like Nemesis was a huge problem. So the current iteration of Nemesis in DBD does not fit much but the real Nemesis from RE3R would've for perfectly with some obvious toning down.

Silent Hill is a (survival) horror franchise, through and through… therefore it is objectively a better fit for DBD. In the same vein, I would say Evil Within fits this category as well and I hope it makes it into DBD somehow.
Resident Evil was still an appropriate franchise to assimilate into DBD, though. It’s more of an Action/Horror with survival elements.
It's the creator of survival horror and the king of it. It depends on the game you're playing.

I like his punches/and tentacles but they shoulda gave more to his arsenal. Like his rpg...hell I'd be fine even if it was only in a Mori. Speaking of which I wanted this as his Mori (at 3:10) https://youtu.be/mUeaXG8QEOc
Nemesis is really smart and uses a decent arsenal of weapons and it's such a shame that he only uses his tentacle in DBD. Also I know I'm not the only one who think the zombie AI is alot worse than it was in the ptb. Like I believe the ptb zombies were alot smarter. Also had some ideas for stronger add-ons replacing the zombies with other re 2-3 creatures like lickers or hunters they'd each have their own speed and detection ranges...just ideas. Not my job to make it balanced.
Off Topic: lol
@TheDarkTyrant you got a discord or steam I can dm you on? Our last Convo kinda got cut short. I'd like to talk to u more about builds or resi evil.
I like his punches as well. I don't mind the tentacle. The only reason I rag on it in DBD is because it takes up spots that should've probably been one of his more iconic abilities. I kinda thought he would have the tentacle though even before he was announced. I just didn't expect zombies. I even tried to be optimistic. I first saw the trailer and gameplay and hated everything I was seeing. But I really tried to tell myself maybe its not as bad as I'm saying but it just made it even worse for me trying to be optimistic.
I personally appreciate what they were trying to do with the more but the execution was way off. I like how it is a reference to 2 of his kills. The beginning of the mori is Mikhail's death when he stabs and wraps the tentacle around him. The throw and stomp of course is one of the cooler kills that can happen to Jill in the real game. But the impact just feels off and animation. The tentacle stabs in the mori are odd feeling and the stomp just does not feel good enough. And the 2nd tentacle stab at the end is the weirdest part for me. What I wanted personally to be the mori is something simple. I just wanted him to punch the absolutely hell out of the survivor and while they are somehow still standing he does the animation he does on pallets and then does the head stomp while they are on the ground and literally crushes the head. Gone.
But yeah I feel like they should replace some of his current abilities and maybe use it later. Zombies could just be repurposed into Walking Dead which I'm sure they will eventually get.

Thing is, it's RE coming to DBD, not DBD coming to RE.
If you want Nemesis to be more like REsistance, the entire game of DBD needs a rework on health systems, objectives and classify what would do how much damage. I mean, sure, give him a rocket launcher in the game right now. What do you think would happen? 1 healthstate per shot like huntress? Is that what you think would make Nemesis feel more powerful? A fast speeding rocket exploding in your face to only cause survivors to hobble around?
Ofcourse not.
Instadown them? Would feel like Nemesis, but you'd essentially have a character that is Iri Head Huntress as a basekit. Would be awful balancing-wise.
Could they have done better? Not really. Better AI, broader addons, maybe, but power-wise? It's actually quite good.
This is the realm of The Entity, it is in control of what happens around these parts. Nemesis not having a rocket launcher, is The Entity not allowing Nemesis to have a rocket launcher. Nemesis didnt exactly get here by choice either. The Entity is like a honey badger, it takes what it wants.
The thing is I you can balance it. I don't care how they balance it. They could make it the worst killer for all I care. Just add the abilities in some form. And a rocket launcher can work. It can work how it does in REsistance but tweaked for DBD. Like getting it in a different way and having 1 shot perk rocket and it is just an instadown. Nemesis can work. Everyone tells me DBD isn't RE and that is my point. The Nemesis in DBD right now make it feel more like RE than Nemesis and Nemesis can fit perfectly in DBD's world.

I get that and understand that they are a company with a lot of properties but I still can see them giving a basic 3d model of nemi for them to use and rework to fit the game and you also need to remember that Capcom would also have to approve how the character would act in this game
Honestly they probably would've approved of almost anything. BHVR decided to present a power with zombies and they probably just said sure go ahead.

Yes I can see Capcom doing this I mean they ignore a lot of their own properties especially the ones that saved their company from bankruptcy
They have a lot of properties to manage. Can't do them all right now. And they're a buisness. Obviously they are gonna focus on the big ones a lot more. But they do smaller ones. I mean they are making a remake of damn Power Stones right now. But the licenses they do use a lot like RE they actually listen to fans and know what RE is supposed to be.

On Mikey I been running corrupt, bbq, pop, infectious/bamboozle.
Clown is usually anti heal build...lol
Nemmy...sorta all over the place can't really decide yet
On Michael I like Bamboozle, Ruin, Monitor, and Pop. I also swap pop for Fire Up sometimes when I feel like it for extra fast vaults.
For Clown its Brutal Strength, Fire Up or Enduring, Ruin, and STBFL.
For Nemesis I'm using Bamboozle, Ruin, Pop, and STBFL

I really wanted to get into trickster too but he was a struggle on console lol still kinda is...like I wanna get into him but I don't know if I should give up on him and just fully commit to clown as my shard dump for outfits lol
So yeah you main nemmy/clown/Myers basically?
Yeah basically. I can do very well with Clown and Michael the majority of the time. I don't like using add-ons so it is probably holding me back a little bit.

I mean I don't really like the zombies anyways. I honestly want them gone. Not just because I want him to be more accurate but I just find them boring as hell. The majority of the time the zombies hurt me by blocking me than helping.

My guess is that the model used in dbd was provided by Capcom i dont think they recreated it probably just had to adjust the skeleton for whatever rig setup dbd uses. I am not saying this to excuse that from slipping past the QA department its just that when working with any other companies properties your often forced to leave it as is especially when they are picky about their work.
I mean DBD makes the models. Why would Capcom make it? I mean as you can see the textures are god awful on him. Other killers have way better textures. Would Capcom really do that?

No other hills? Not even those with nemesis?
His zombie AI doesn't work. The two undead lovebirds spend more time caressing each other over some rock in the corner of the map instead of maybe trying to harass some survivors. This relates to gameplay, is the inside of his hands really a more definitive sign of a substandard product?
I don't care about the balancing. I care about the accuracy.

I quite enjoy him, maybe it would benefit you to see how others play him as well? and I would love to see what you can do as well.
I play on PlayStation. I understand why people like him but for me just since the zombies the majority of the time are not doing much just doesn't do much for me. I have put on a million perk loadouts and can hit the tentacle very consistently since I know where you can and cannot hit but even the tentacle has big problems. Such as giving them 3 health states. Since he is my main I'm always playing at the high level and usually have 2-3 gens done when I get the first down unless I somehow find the weak one which I can't really know easily right away.

Anyone can compare a game to any other game for any number of reasons.
But alright. DBD + F13 for example. Both are asymmetrical horror pvp games. They both have a killer vs a team of survivors. Both have looping. Both have objectives. In both games you can escape from the killer. Etc.
I don’t know enough about REsistance other than it’s an asymmetrical pvp game.
That's just the basic stuff is what I'm saying. When you actually look at how it plays and stuff, it is very different and can't really be compared all that much.

Even if that were true, which imho it is not, why would it mean that people shouldn’t compare the two?
I want you to compare them. What are some big comparisons between DBD and REsistance or DBD and F13? Enough to be something you would suggest to a DBD fan for it being like DBD and they'll probably like it because of them liking DBD.

There is another issue you didn't talk about in OP.
When people in this community compare DBD to other games, it's basically a death wish. Because they're looking for DBD 2.0 and they go to try out these other games and try their best to put faith in the competition so something can finally "kill" DBD (hint: no other game will; DBD will kill itself) and then the community that came from DBD will suck the life out of it because they want the game to not be itself but DBD 2.0 and seize their support when that doesn't happen.
It's why all the other potential competitors failed. On top of simply not being good enough to compete with DBD in general, DBD's community also played a huge part in their failure. I really don't doubt the same will happen to VHS.
I mean I honestly believe those other games are just better video games than DBD. DBD doesn't have much content compared to them.

dbd really only became successful because of their marketing more than the game itself. They even promote streamers to make the game look fun.
But in reality I had more fun playing HSH, and RER than I ever did playing Dead by Daylight, but not enough players in those two games I can't get into games, and I am addicted to DBD hoping the next match is going to be as fun and balanced as I see the streamers get.
I mean if you play on PlayStation I'll say those other games you can find matches pretty fast. i play them all the time and sometimes find many matches even faster than DBD right now.

I mean working in a way that isn't neutered or OP. I thought that they could have made it work but the more I think about it, the more of a balancing nightmare it would be.
We have a gun in the game, but it's far from lethal compared to Huntresses Hatchets or even Tricksters throwing knives. Both of those can down Survivors but a spear gun can't? Imagine if it could. You'd have to rework the entire power and I'm sure he'd either end up being better than Huntress, or a harder Huntress.
I think that if they had tried to give Nemesis a rocket launcher (the flamethrower would no doubt have been a technical nightmare in comparison), it would never be truly balanced or in a state that players would be happy with. His tentacle works off of tech that exists in the game so they know it will work and be fairly easy to balance. Zombie AI was a risk and it...sort of paid off? It's totally RNG based but they do something I guess.
I'd ######### love it if Nemesis had weapons just as much as the next guy, but I'm not surprised that they couldn't make it work, or chose not to do it to avoid a balancing/technical nightmare. He is what he is and I think for what he is, he fits the mould just enough.
Well I don't think it'd be hard to balance. That is also why you should get testers and have PTBs. The easy part is making it work. You pick it up and shoot it once and its a 1 shot explosion that has a little blast radius. The only hard part is the requirements to get it. Is it how many gens, if so how many gens for each one? At every 1 gen, 2 gens, or the final gen? Is it after you get this many hooks or after filling out a meter? The actual way you use the rocket though should be easy to make. But yeah I also understand why they don't have weapons for him but I really do belueve it could've worked.
-
@RenRen said:

They could restrict it so it's one rocket launcher per gen or something and make it hard to actually hit.
Yeah there is ways to make it work. And I don't get what he means by weapons won't work. We have an entire spear gun in the game. I think it could work.

People are going to compare games. Why wouldn’t they.
VHS and DBD for example. Why not compare the two? They’re both 4vs1 asymmetrical pvp games. They have similarities and differences. Just because they have differences doesn’t mean they can’t be compared.
That isn't my point. I'm saying they have not many meaningful comparisons in the gameplay other than its 4v1
-
@NomiNomad said:
I feel like your talking about VHS here, since that's the newest game in a long line of "competition."
At a surface level, they are comparable. At least, to the general public. Both games are 4v1, with that 1 being a monstrous killer of some kind. The deeper you look, the more the games are different, but most people aren't going to look deeper. They're gonna see two 4v1 games that have a killer as a playable character.
It's like people comparing TF2 to Overwatch or Paladins to Overwatch. All those games are similar in the way that they are all hero shooters. The comparisons stop there, pretty much. The mechanics of the games are all different, the way they work. TF2 has a Loadout system, Paladins has a skill system, Overwatch is "pick character and your done". But most people just see "HERO SHOOTER" and compare them. That's just how it works.
I'm talking from the deeper area. I 100% understand why people compare them, I mean they are the closest thing but since I'm someone who plays a lot of these games I just feel its not super great to compare them.

All the online games mentioned feature an antagonist going after four individuals attempting to survive/escape. Whilst the gameplay differs, the basic 1v4 players horror format remains.
Regarding Resistance: four humans deal with certain dangers as they attempt to do tasks to unlock a door in order to escape. Much like DBD.
If someone asked "What are the closest alternatives to DBD?" most would mention some or all of the games you listed.
The thing is it has the same basic stuff in REsistance. But for anyone that has played REsistance would realize quickly that it is really nothing like DBD in how it works. I understand why people compare these games because these are the closest things but honestly they aren't even that close still. Its 4v1 with survivors and a killer and that's where the big and meaningful comparisons stop. You could say that they have to do an objective together to escape but that's just like every game.
-
@anarchy753 said:
Just because they have slightly different gimmicks doesn't mean they "can't be compared."
They're asymmetrical games that pit one person in a power role, usually a killer, against a small team of survivors who aim to either escape or defeat the killer. They're absolutely the same genre and they draw the attention of the exact same people who like that genre.
It's like saying you can't compare counter strike to rainbow 6 siege just because different people play them.
Honestly.
When I say that I don't literally mean they cannot be compared. I'm saying very little can be compared so its kinda odd to compare them. I understand why people do it and it doesn't make anyone dumb, I just think they shouldn't be compared if possible. But if people keep doing it which they will it is completely fine.
-
@GentlemanFridge said:
They’re being compared because of how small the genre is, with DbD easily coming out on top as the most successful.
People will compare Dota 2 with LoL, Smite, Heroes of the Storm, etc., despite the fact they are only vaguely similar.
Can’t blame people for comparing apples with oranges when those are the only things in the basket.
Yeah I completely understand why people are doing it and its completely fine. Doesn't bother me. I'm just making 1 quick post about it because I personally don't think its that amazing to compare them. I know its the only thing they can compare it to so if people continue it is completely understandable.

I dont really think his tentacle is that bad. He can hit over Pallets and Windows in Animation Locks (like PH does). And his Cooldown is not as punishing as PHs, but the tentacle does not go through walls. Which is alright.
The problem is that he needs 3 hits which good survivors can take advantage of easily, since PH can do the same things just better then why would you ever play Nemesis, and at least Pyramid Head actually has a useful 2nd half of the power. The zombies basically do nothing so no matter how well you can use the tentacle you're gonna get your ass kicked unless you decide to basement camp with STBFL Nemesis. But then just play Leatherface.

I mean, Billy is literally just a rip off of Leatherface, though. Like, obviously they play differently, but he was made pretty redundant with the acquisition of Bubba. Word up.
At least when we get Jason, Trapper will still have his traps and tight leather to differentiate himself. Billy is just kind of Cannibal on a diet. Less people to eat, I guess.
Billy does differentiate from Leatherface in power. The most important part that shows what that character is all about and gives them their personality and they are both extremely different.

One balancing bit I thought of, for the NE-a Parasites, limit it to 1 Zombie with the whole double respawn time, but Nemesis has to go infect them himself, he doesn't just start with one. This would also help in a way. Zombie just spawned and he's close to a gen? Infect. Now his lethality is greater, and those gens are more dangerous.
Yeah that makes sense. It'd be perfect. Just walk up to the zombie and do an animation where he grabs their head and puts on the parasite like the game.
-
@[Deleted User] said:
Accurate enough considering balance restrictions. His hook animation is at least pretty good.
I mean I understand where some people are coming from when they say that but at the same time the problem really isn't the balance restrictions. i mean we have Oni who is the closest killer to Nemesis and he is perfectly fine. They could put in the abilities he uses but balance them. They've done it plenty times before. I mean certain characters in the game could be overpowered if the matches were like a story mode of sorts but since its a video game they can easily balance this stuff but still make them feel like the characters.

@Bluebird said:
I'm only going to post this once, just because I've never actually made a discussion on it, but if you've looked through some Nemesis threads, you'll probably see me in them quite often. I'm personally not the biggest fan of Nemesis as he is, as I feel he doesn't represent him as he was in RE3: Remake, where he was pulled from. I've given these ideas in other threads but decided to lay them here in one convenient location.
In order for Nemesis to feel like the Nemesis we have in the games, I feel he needs at least 2 of these things.
- An add-on that turns the Zombies into NE-a Parasite Zombies, gives them a range of 5 meters, with a 3-4 second attack cooldown (so the Survivor doesn't get absolutely mauled with their current 1 second cooldown).
Pretty simple, the NE-a Parasites are a real interesting enemy you face in RE3: Remake, and since Nemesis has the NE-a Parasite himself, I feel that replacing both, or even just one of the zombies with a NE-a Parasite, would be interesting and would allow players to create more interesting zombie-focused builds. It'd also give the Survivors a new threat to face that'd be interesting to play with and against, as you can't just easily bait out the zombies. They'd still be blinded of course, but it'd be riskier. As a penalty, if both zombies are NE-a's, then the respawn time doubles. If Nemesis destroys them, they go from 15 -> 30, and if a Survivor pallets them, from 30(?) -> 60(?). This could replace the NE-a Parasite Add-on we have, since being Oblivious for 60 seconds after being infected isn't... too helpful, especially if YOU caused the infection, especially if they run out of crates.
- A running ability. Nemesis roars map-wide, then he runs at say... 150% speed? maybe 160% so he just outruns Exhaustion Perks? He has full mobility, can turn just as normal, but can immediately break pallets/walls (add-on that allows you to just rush straight through them if you've been running for 3 seconds), and you can just absolutely sucker punch a Survivor to end your sprint, dealing one health state of damage, but putting him in a... 3-4 second cooldown to recover from his sprint.
This would basically be an easier to steer Hillbilly or Oni charge, except you're limited to one health state, and can be used more for map traversal, if say Tinkerer pops (imagine that happening in-game, I'd probably [BAD WORD] myself). This could easily count as a Special Attack, akin to Legion's Feral Frenzy, so STBFL and the Iridescent Umbrella Badge wouldn't work with it, disallowing you from getting a quick and easy down. Similar to The Legion, there could be an add-on, or 2 add-ons, that reduce the cooldown you suffer by in total 1 second, going from 4 -> 3 seconds (only if the cooldown is 4 seconds).
- A special ability, akin to Trickster, although with a twist. For every 2 generators completed, an Umbrella Crate drops, which contains a Rocket Launcher (Doing this method means that Nemesis has, at max, 2 insta-downs excluding add-ons). If Nemesis goes to the crate (it'll probably be highlighted) and picks up the rocket launcher, *his tentacle (if he has it) is replaced with his Rocket Launcher, and he can't pick Survivors up. You hold M2 to aim the Rocket Launcher, it fires one shot, and immediately downs anyone within... a 3-4 meter radius, damages anyone for one health state within a 6-8 meter radius. It'd have a laser showing where the player's aiming, just like in RE3 Remake, and when it's used, he'd toss the Rocket Launcher to the side, similar to how he does in RE: Resistance (I can't find a clip of just the RPG being used).
I know that a few people have stated that having yet another one-shot down would be annoying, but that's why I came up with the idea that Nemesis has to GO GET the crates, he's just not given them, and they'd only be given if the Survivors are popping gens. That means, if a Nemesis downs everyone before 2 gens pop, the Rocket Launcher never gets used. There could be an add-on that drops an extra crate when the last generator pops (Very Rare, not sure what it'd replace, but it could replace the S.T.A.R.S. Badge as an Ultra-Rare). I also figured that the Rocket Launcher would keep the laser it has in the games, since it's technically able to insta-down everyone at once, which CAN be very strong and it'd prevent cross-map snipes.
Any of these (I'd love for all 3 of them) can be added and still keep the whip, just make the running and the Rocket Launcher be toggled by CTRL. I feel that this'd make him feel more like Nemesis, it'd make him pretty strong while also keeping him from overpowered, and would make everyone happy, as Survivors would have fun being chased by an absolute unit of a Tyrant (I'd LOVE to just see a Nemesis running at me with face-pummeling intent)
This is a fantastic idea! I honestly feel like they could easily make something like this work. We already have running plenty of times so that should be perfectly acceptable, a rocket launcher while maybe not fitting in the world of DBD can also fit as a gameplay mechanic when balanced correctly. And bringing in the Nemesis Alpha parasites would make sense if they wanted the Nemesis to connect a bit more with Nemesis from the remake and could work really well. Overall I don't think this would be that hard to implement. I mean they would just have to create a couple models for things like the rocket launcher, cases, and parasites but it wouldnt take that long. And the running can just be easily whipped up. He already has the animation and roar animation and sounds. Just replace his default mocing animtion with the one he has when walking slow, in the end game screen, or when he is holding someone and put the running animation in the ability. But yeah I do feel like something like this would fit and honestly be more of a fun killer for most people. Even those who don't care about the accuracy and just the fun I still think this type of power would succeed betterbetter in that area.

15 cuz gonna be legendary they wont do anything special but its 15 bucks
Legendary means it turns into a different character. Its gonna be $10 since no other character fits Nemesis as a Legendary.
