Just smack em, and if that isn't enough drop and slug the Survivor you're carrying. I one time turned a one basement hook into a three basement hook since the Survivors wanted to try and body block.
-
Either Micheal or Hag since they are the only two I go up against. The occasional Doctor.
-
For me it's more of a lack of variety. Hag on Groaning Storehouse has been one out of every three games for me. Go in, spend two minutes finding the hex totem, see it, shine flashlight and destroy seven traps, break totem, go to nearby generator, break trap, repair gen, go to hooked Survivor, break five traps, flashlight breaks, try crouching around to get past traps while fellow survivors run around like little children told they can have free candy, Hag finds me, get chased, downed, and hooked, team mates circle jerk until I die. Enter new lobby, Hag on Groaning Storehouse...
I just want some variety.

I want it to be an original killer with a REALLY bizarre power, referencing this Killer has spent more time in the Entity's domain and has become warped because of it.
-
It's always more of a spur of the moment decision for me, though the odds increase if I've had a fun chase. You spend a minute looping around the same pallet, you spend your time on the hook. It's more fun to find a Survivor on the other end of the map, down them, and than get to message them saying "Want hatch?" Than cradling them like precious cargo all the way to the hatch so they can leave.

I love the idea of what this game is supposed to be.
Playing a Survivor, you find yourself trapped in a small area with three strangers you are supposed to work together with while an unstoppable terror is stalking you to kill you. You don't know if you can count on your fellow Survivors, you don't know what you're up against until it's looking at you, and every popped gen brings an increase of both hope for escape and fear of capture.
Playing a Killer, you have this sense of power that few games give you. You are a lion among sheep, stalking your prey and instilling fear in their hearts. You may not know where your prey IS, but you know where they are going. Even if they get a few gens done, it's no big deal. That just decreases the amount of safe places they have since you now have less places to search. And the best part? The meat can't fight back. No matter what they do, they will never kill you. They will never stop you. Even if they escape, they are still trapped with you. And you'll have your chance to put them on the hook again someday. All roads lead back to the fire.
Now sadly certain mechanics take away from this idea, but for the most part this game is one of the only of it's kind.

I enjoy it when I get to face Killers I don't see often. Playing on PS4, feels like I only ever see Hags and Doctors, and if it's not those two it's a Shape or a Trapper. Every two dozen games or so I get to go against a different kind of killer, but more often than not it goes like this.
Enter game, go to gen. Skill check red cause of Ruin? 75% chance it's a Hag, so begin crouch walking everywhere til I find the Hex totem. Is it not a Hag but a Doctor? Hope I can stay out of his terror radius, except my fellow Survivors have the uncanny talent for leading the Doctor to me. Neither Hag or Doctor but a Shape? Stealth around. Trapper? Pay attention to where I'm walking and check pallet and vault spaces.
Also recently I've had Killers tunneling me like I'm the lady of the night of the film. Chasing an injured Survivor but see me out of the corner of their eye? Chase me. Survivors scatter and fellow Survivors run in a closer direction than I do? Ignore them and chase me. Everyone got hooked twice but me, everyone is injured but me, and by chasing me they lose the opportunity to get a single sacrifice because the gates are open? Get. Tatsu.
Of course, Killer side isn't to much better since I get the tocis SWF groups who send me angry messages when I kill them threatening to report me because I must have hacked since there's no POSSIBLE way I could have gotten a 4K against their SUPERIOR skillz!
Love DBD, hate members of this community.
Thanks OP for a chance for a mini rant. Makes me feel better.

I treat Survivors like naughty toddlers when I catch them off their hooks. Don't they know I'm putting them there to keep them safe? They could get themselves hurt running around the maps!
-
Dark Sense is telling me you're across the map, I'll be oh hi Billy, how are you?

Been playing for a few months, best advice I can offer is to learn the weaknesses of each killer. Here are the one's I picked up. Also, always shift attention during a chase from where you're going to the Killer as well:
Trapper: Keep an eye on the ground, especially near spots of interest (Gens, hooks, pallets, vault spaces, etc.)
Hillbilly and Leatherface: Stay out of open spaces, become a tree hugger.
Wraith: Look for the shimmer. If you can see it, you have a head start.
Nurse: Watch the Nurse, try to be unpredictable in movements. When she blinks, run towards her.
Doctor: Just stay away from the terror radius as best as you can. Not gonna lie, I hate Doctors, both in game and in real life.
Pig: Be wary of any figure moving in crouch, and keep an eye out for your surroundings. If you don't let her ambush you, all you have is an average chaser.
Freddy: Listen for the lullaby, and try to stay hidden. If pulled into a Nightmare, try to escape and find a gen to work on. Get a skill check and fail it, wakes you up. Same if you can heal yourself, fail the skill check. Aside from that, look for a Survivor to wake you up.
Huntress: Same as Freddy, listen for the hums and try to be unpredictable in movements, along with sticking near obstacles to block hatchets.
Hag: She's a little tricky if you don't have a flashlight with you since that's her weakness. If you are lucky enough to have one use it on her marks. The marks can generally be found in the same places a Trapper would put them. Just be wary of gens, hooked survivors, basement entrances, and most importantly hex totems. If you have the flashlight, scan areas you consider suspect to destroy them.
Clown: Be unpredictable during the chase. Not a lot of Clown players, at least on PS4, but if you do run into one remember their objective is to control the chase. Keep an eye on them and when they rear back, dart in a different direction than the one you were going to. They need to slow you down to smack you, don't give them that chance.
Micheal: Keep an eye on all lines of sight whenever a game starts. Most Micheals need to get to Tier 2 before they can do anything, so they will try to hide somewhere they can see you. If you do see one staring at your sweet, sweet booty, do everything you can to break line of sight and hide. And hope.
Spirit: Walk everywhere, do NOT run. Running gives her scratch marks, breadcrumbs to follow. And if you're lucky enough to see her phase into a Haunting from a distance, calmly walk in a different direction and keep an eye on where she'll pop into. Also, have a good set of headsets and push all audio into it so you can hear the wind when she tries to ambush you.
Some of this may seem obvious, but remember a Killer's greatest weapon is the mindgames they can play. If you can keep a calm head and play smarter, your odds of survival are much higher. Also, know you will not survive every game. Sometimes the Killer is smarter, you are not playing at your best, your fellow survivors are horrible at either the game or being good people. But you get better over time.

Just curious, I play on PS4 and I want to see if anyone else is having trouble with getting bloodpoints from a DCing Killer. I've heard that if a Killer DCs during a game, you are supposed to get all of your accumulated blood points, but it seems like that only works 10% of the time. The other day I started with 2136 bloodpoints. Played three games, each time the Killer Dced (Once when we opened the Exit Gate). By the end of those three games, I still had 2136 blood points. Than yesterday I played a game, killer DCed near the beginning, and I gained a few hundred bloodpoints for repairing a gen.
Is this a bug?
Also, to contribute to this post. I feel a DCing Survivor should net the Killer 5000 bloodpoints, and a DCing Killer gives each Survivor 20,000. Basically, give them the full worth of the game they've played.
-
And Decisive Strike should only work after the Killer has hooked you. That's what this post sounds like.
Insidious is a perk used to bolster a playstyle, a playstyle you don't like. This playstyle has weaknesses, specifically a perk called Kindred. Run it, let your teammates see that camper, and now you are making them waste time.
-
I'm reaching the point where I want to derank as a Killer, so I'm just gonna follow Survivors around until they figure it out. Once the doors open, if they tbag and try to hold me hostage, I'll just smack em. Either they leave and the game ends, or they go down and get hooked like they deserved.

When I get chat invites I just straight up ignore them. Tempted to try and see if I can communicate with the Killer just to be like "Hey, these guys trying to SWF. Want help killing them?" Really ruins the game for me on both sides. Really wish the devs would just build seperate servers so that SWF can only go against Killers who want to go against such a group.Wait? Very few if any Killers would? Huh, wonder why...
Enjoy your hour long lobbies then since you'll face what happened before swf was introduced.
Already do since Killers constantly disconnect if two or more Survivors show up at the same time.
-
I do find it strange that as a Survivor I hear loud klaxons whenever I open a door. Don't even hear a cricket chirp as a Killer.

Haunted Ground with Ruin is a must IMO. If I play a round as a Survivor and I see that Ruin hex, I immediately begin looking for the totem. If you mix in Haunted Ground, now you have 2/3rds of a chance of getting some good time to one hit Survivors. Other perks I feel are dealer's choice, I personally run Deerstalker and Monitor and Abuse.
Now, I play on PS4 so my strat works better than PC, but I use Haunting to ambush at gens. Monitor and Abuse allows me to get slightly closer to gens without triggering Survivors, but I get as close as I dare before activating Haunting to speed at a gen. This is where listening really helps cause if I hear that gen being worked on I can pop out and either get a hit in or if I'm lucky pull a Survivor off the gen.
Unrelated to Spirit, but I run Deerstalker cause I always slug the third to last Survivor. I've escaped to many games as a Survivor by waiting near the hatch while my last teammate dies (Say what you will, but if I'm injured I'm less likely to rescue you and I expect no less from fellow Survivors.) Deerstalker lets me leave them to die while I buy myself time to find the last Survivor. Once the last Survivor is on the hook where they belong, I just go back to where I left the third and look around the area. After thirty seconds or so I tend to find them hiding in a corner.
-
Been playing a few months now on PS4, and when I first got the game I purchased Pig for myself since I love the Saw franchise, and I found her ability to crouch and have no terror radius to be the greatest thing ever. I mained her for a while, but decided to switch over to Spirit once she came out.
Reasoning with Spirit is simple. One, Haunted Ground paired with Ruin. I have 2/3rds of a chance to get an exposed on my Survivors, and in the most ideal way this ever came out I had three people hooked in the basement before the first gen was even completed. What I mostly like about Spirit though is her Haunting, especially since a lot of people don't wear headsets and send their sound through them when playing DBD, so that loud wind is hard to pick up. (Actually played against a Spirit without my headset today and I couldn't hear anything over the gens.) I just pop the haunting, fly to a generator and listen for the sounds of maintenance, and if I hear it I pop in and get a Survivor.

And now he's Micheal. Don't get me wrong, I love Jason, but he doesn't have any "abilities" to bring that we don't already have.Dabrownman1812 said:
Why would it be bear traps though, could be a rage meter that fills up with time in chase and damage dealing hits to survivors. At max he vaults quicker, recovers 50% faster from stun, and pallets instabreak on stun impact, break pallets 30% faster. Would ne a chase tank. What if the power boosted his strength for the physical trials of chasing survivors since he is knowm for his brute strength.Peasant said:

If you MUST have Jason Vorhees in Dead by Daylight then I strongly encourage you to ask for a trapper costume that resembles Jason instead of just adding a trapper clone. -

Reading the lore, here are the branches:
Forced to Kill:
-Trapper by way of the hooks that hold up his clothes
-Nurse from the pillowcase around her head
-Wraith snapped when he discovered he was killing in his human life. He's a toss up since we don't know fully what happened to him.
-Hag, made a deal to gain the power to kill her cannibal captors and is now coerced into killing for the Entity. (May also choose to kill, up in the air on her)
-Spirit made a deal with the Entity to get revenge on her father, maybe the Entity is withholding the Father as a "reward"Perhaps by killing Survivors, their own torment is lessened.
Chooses to Kill:
-Hillbilly has an animalistic mindset, seeking only to kill due to his horrendous childhood.
-Shape (Micheal Myers), apparently made a deal with the Entity to kill Survivors over and over since killing is the only thing that brings him any peace.
-Huntress, finds hunting humans to be the greatest kind of hunt.
-Cannibal (Leatherface), Entity provides him peace so he kills to please it.
-Doctor, likes inflicting torture.
-Pig, follows Jigsaws philosophy but doesn't believe in it. Specifically says there was no chance for redemption, they were meat and meat deserves to die.
-Nightmare (Freddy), sure he's lost a large chunk of his power, but I doubt he's displeased with the whole affair.
-Clown, dude was a serial killer in life, now he gets to kill for the rest of eternity. For these Killers, the death of Survivors is it's own reward.

I play on PS4 so things work a little differently for me, but I've started maining The Spirit.
Again, this probably works for me better since I'm on PS4, but I find her Haunting ability works better for ambushing gens than during a chase. I try to use add ons that increase my duration of the Haunting, and let me tell you it's some of the funnest I've had ending the Haunt in front of a gen and watching Survivors scatter like chickens the moment I pop into existence. I mained the Pig before this, primarily for her ability to sneak up on Survivors, and I feel the Spirit does that better for me since I don't have to crouch before hand.
Perks wise I run Haunted Ground and currently Huntress Lullaby (Don't have Ruin yet) Haunted Ground is a little useless on it's own since it relies on Survivors just going for the cleanse before checking what they are dealing with. Paired with Huntress Lullaby (or Ruin), I find it more useful since I have 2/3rds of a chance to get Exposed on Survivors really early. I also run Deerstalker since I sometimes have to leave a Survivor lying around to either chase after another one or if there are only two left and enough gens to open the hatch. Say what you will, that's when I slug to either buy some time or set up some bait. My final perk is Monitor and Abuse so I can lengthen my chases in the hopes it messes a Survivor up, but primarily to reduce my Terror Radius so I can get just a bit closer to gens before entering my Haunt.
Playstyle is quick. I try to leave Survivors as little breathing room as possible, popping near gens to attack and chasing them down relentlessly. The way I see it, keeping them off gens is my main priority, so if I can down and hook I take the opportunity to give them one more objective to have to focus on. When I'm not in a chase, I try to use Haunting to head to where I think Survivors are working on gens or to look for scratch marks. Generally as the game goes on Survivors run less to deny me my trail, but early game when they don't know I follow those red scratches off to Survivor City.
The main drawback of my entire build and playstyle is I rely to much on the element of surprise the entire game, due to the slower movement speed and lunge range. Sure I can still win chases, but the longer I chase Dwight around, the more time Meg, David, and Claudette have to repair gens. If the Survivors also keep cool heads and play smart, I really have to try to get even a single kill. It's kind of like playing the Nurse I feel, where you can't make mistakes or else you set yourself up for failure.
I will say this though is that I LOVE the Spirit. I think another strength she has is that, at least from my experience, she's like the Clown. Few people are playing her at the moment, so it throws people off when they see her and they have to adapt to her style. I play against so many Doctors, Myers, Trappers and Hags that, while I still have to work for the escape, I play comfortably because I know what to do against them. Stay out of the terror radius, stay out of sight, watch the ground. Against the Clown I KNOW to keep an eye out for the pink gas, but sometimes instinct takes over and I run for that window. And than I get gassed.
Same with me. Everyone's looking for the Killer, so they may not notice the grass moving just a little bit funny before I pop in. Though I will also admit, I've only played one game against a Spirit, and they used their haunt more for playing mind games in a chase than ambushing a gen. All I had to do was play stealthy and the Spirit never saw me.
-
I think really my own rule is not dragging things out for my own amusement. If I hook a Survivor I go hunting for another. If someone unhooks that survivor and I'm nearby, I just mosi on back and smack people with my beat stick. I do prioritize the hooked survivor more often than not, though more out of pragmatism than malice.
Every dozen or so games though I do let the last survivor escape through the hatch, though I try to down them first. That's mostly to help people get the escape by crawling trophy since that's how I got it. I'm more prone to give this escape to Survivors who either led me on a merry chase, or ones who really showed altruism. The way I see it, I know I won, they know I won, so why not just let them escape. Might inspire them to do that at least once for someone else.
-
I like going against the Pig because of the mindgames she can play with her crouch, and Clown because I rarely go against him so it actually messes me up because I'm not used to him.
Least favorite has to be the Doctor and Have, partly because their abilities annoy me but mostly because I only ever seem to go against one of those two when I'm not against Myers. I now bring flashlights into every game just to ruin a Hag's day. -
I hover between 10 and 15, but I run Rancor, Haunted Ground, Monitor and Abuse, and Make Your Choice
-
I use Rancor, and I've only "used" it once. Seeing images of Survivors is all it's really good for, and even in that it's weak since if I'm on the other end of the map it's really useless. The exposed part doesn't help me much since I tend to just kill all of the Survivors before they can repair 5 gens. Only once did they get all five, and the game wouldn't even let me mori my obsession.
-
I use her to ambush at gens which has been doing pretty well so far, I don't even mind the whoosh sound that happens when I'm approaching since it gives Survivors a fair chance to know I'm coming. I do agree though her movement speed or lunge range needs to be increased slightly. Playing her on Lery's is close to impossible thanks to all the vault spaces and crap littered everywhere.
-
If you can give me one good reason why it HAS to be Latino. I judge off of their perks, not appearance. I'm not a racist like that.
-
Ran into a game like that, just tunneled the other Survivors, hooked them, than told the last guy I'd take him to gens so he could repair. This guy spent thirty minutes with me as I led him to gens. Even asked if he wanted to escape by crawling out, he said yes, so I wacked him and watched him leave.
Don't play their way.
-
There's not much you can do about either sadly, except for get better at hiding from the killer, which will just take time. Tunneling is an annoying but permanent part of the game just because of how much sense it makes. If I've hooked you once and haven't touched the Survivor next to you yet, I'll go after you every time. Hooking you again increases my odds of sacrificing you, increasing my points gain. Also depending on the perks I have, going after you may be to my benefit. (Obsession based perks mostly)
Face Camping is annoying, but just think of it like this. When a Killer face camps you, more often than not they are trying to make you rage quit by killing yourself on hook, hitting you and nodding their head to help them in that effort. NEVER ######### ON HOOK!!! It's exactly what a Killer wants. The longer you are on that hook, the more time other survivors have to repair gens. Killers have to fight against the clock, killing Survivors as quickly as they can since Survivors have all the time in the Entity's realm. I won a game a few weeks back against a Piggy where I repaired a generator and opened an exit gate by looping between three gens til I fixed one and hid near an exit gate until I saw the Piggy check the area and leave. I than went to the gate, opened it for a few seconds and hid again.
When a Killer face camps, they risk losing precious time, time Survivors need to repair gens. So if you wanna give the Killer the middle finger, milk your time on the hook for all it's worth. I know that doesn't help prevent face camping, but it's the best I got. Try to hide from the Killer, try to escape the Killer, and when all else fails milk your Struggle points for they're worth. And when you play a game where you get face camped and two generators pop while the Killer hits you like the blood filled pinata you are, you'll know I am right.
-
I main Kate and love Boil Over, not because of the increase in struggles, but obscuring hooks from Killer's views. Yes it's situational, but when you watch Killers walk past hooks because they couldn't see them through the wall it's worth it. Though it is useless when a Killer knows what they're doing.
Like me. I down a Kate, I quickly look for the closest hook before picking her up.
-
Face camping or camping survivors is a legitimate tactic, no matter what anyone says. You just have to accept that doing so give the other survivors time to repair generators. I'm also saying this as a survivor main. When I see a killer face camping or camping a hooked survivor, I just fix generators. At the very least I get a free generator.
