  • The fact that the tentacle hit gives survivors a speed boost and doesn't cause damage is something that high SBMM survivors will take advantage of, especially if they're playing together. Just simply removing the speed boost would do wonders for Nemesis. But yeah he's pretty useless at high MMR, especially with the brain dead zombie bots he has at his disposal.

    It sucks, yeah.

Oh look, all the perks I want to use, whether meta or because of fun interactions, are spread out across like five characters aside from the ones I want to play! Totally enjoying the "spend a week grinding someone to 40 because I just want access to one perk". /s

Just simply removing the blood point cap would do wonders. At this stage they're clearly not going to do a big overhaul to reduce the grind, so just remove the cap. How hard can that be?

Survivors in the dream world are oblivious and only hear a 32 meter non directional lullaby. This makes it easier for freddy to approach. More sleeping survivors also makes your teleport cooldown shorter.

It might be non directional, but it's pretty easy to determine which direction he's approaching from. There's just not enough there in the dream world to warrant it existing.

    There isn't. Not anymore.

Freddy was completely ruined in July of 2019, and the fact that nothing has been done yet is genuinely concerning.

I made it my personal mission to do my absolute best to bring his on-release version back to the Fog. I mention this precious killer at every opportunity, insist on his return whenever I can.

Though...I admit to you, my friend...

It is hard to keep talking when your words always fall on deaf ears.

EDIT: I thank you for helping raise awareness about this matter.

Here is a funny gift, as a sign of appreciation:

    That is hysterical 🤣.

What's ironic is that it seems like the biggest horror icons are what need a rework. I want to see Freddy go back to more of what he used to be, and Michael Myers desperately needs something, anything to help him compete in 2022.

The real reason people play swf is because they want to have fun and play with their friends. The vast majority of dbd players don’t care all too much about doing challenges or having bad teammates. I for one used to only play survivor with friends because I didn’t want to be lonely.

Not everyone needs to win or have advantages against the killer every time.

Exactly. Survivor is far more chill than killer. You either sweat in a killer match, or have a fun time playing with friends as survivor. It's not hard to see why most players choose one role over the other.

It's because they're scared that reducing the gtind will means players having nothing to work towards and thus won't play the game.

But there's going to be a breaking point at some point where the grind is simply too much for new players and user numbers will start to decline.

They need to make the change before that happens, not after.

Honestly I think we're already there. Yet another killer and survivor is about to be released with their own set of perks, and since everything needs to be leveled up to tier three to be the most effective, means that everyone's in store for a massive grind, especially if they want those perks on all of their killers and survivors. And like you said, God forbid if you are a new player because you're getting screwed the most.

  • I think how you get around that is if Behavior introduces a perk that allows you to reactivate a hex, but in doing so it's only effective at half its original strength.

  • @Erak said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2644047#Comment_2644047

Well it has been reduced drastically twice already. Bloodwebs in 2016 were way bigger than now and you would only earn a fraction of the bloodpoints that you get today. Also you could only get one perk per bloodweb.

But because the game gets bigger and bigger every 3 months, and the last grind reduction was a long time ago, we need anotherone.

Simply reducing the size of the webbs isn't cutting it anymore. There needs to be a serious overhaul. Either remove the perk tiers, the blood point cap, or allow players to unlock the perk that they want when they want it.

  • I hate to make a blanket statement like this, but Behavior isn't going to do anything to reduce the grind. It's been over 5 years, and this has been a constant complaint that has never gone away. And what makes it worse is the fact that they know that it's a big issue with their player base, and yet they still don't do anything about it other than give us some codes here and there for free blood points.

  • Between never-ending bugs, and the recent NFT and DDOS debacles, Behavior makes it incredibly hard to support their game. Not to mention watching Killers get repeatedly nerfed into the ground should surprise no one just why there are far fewer people playing killer than ever before.

When this game fires on all cylinders it can be a blast to play, but most of the time it's nothing but sweat and headache inducing, and the toxic and petty behavior from people within the game makes it that much worse.

  • @ColonGlock said:

You have unlocked a new level in DBD mastery. The point is the fun! Once you feel the joy of just experiencing the gameplay from moment to moment without expectations of victory you have won. Simple perks mean you are just focused on the chase and the hook. Win or lose this is where DBD shines.

It really is. Obviously when you're being steamrolled time and again it's really hard to to tell someone to just have fun, but it amazes me just how effective a simplistic build can be. Obviously I don't 4K every game, but it's amazing just how effective a chase build can take survivors by surprise!

  • Behavior did announce that they're looking into ways to involve the bots more, and incorporating a training mode that would allow you to use perks, and maps, and different Killers of your choice seems like a given. You can already do that with the mobile game, so there's no reason why you can't do that with the main game.

  • SBMM has definitely made matchmaking a mess. The fact that it revolves around nothing more than kills and escapes is not an adequate representation of skill, so people are constantly being teamed up and pitted against people they have no business playing with. Not to mention playing as survivor imo is just boring. Hold a button to work on a generator, hold a button to cleanse a totem, hold a button to heal, etc. I'd much rather be playing killer, but the continued nerfs have made it rather painful.

  • What I don't get, is how could Behavior think that providing a link to an interview is enough to win over their player base? You want to speak to the press first? Fine, but have the decency to address your player base too.

I like dead by daylight, I really do, but god do I have trouble supporting Behavior as a whole. Bug ridden chapters, NFT debacles, and now DDOS swating. And this is all within a year!

  • What frustrated me more than anything was seeing Behavior address the DDOS attacks to Eurogamer instead of addressing their player base first. I think it goes to show just how little they care for the people playing their game compared to the public eye of the gaming press.

Actions speak louder than words, and their inaction in regards to cheaters and hackers speaks volumes.

  • Boring? No. Annoying? Yes.

The power role is most definitely not the killer anymore, especially if you're playing against a coordinated SWF. There's simply no perk nor power that can adequately match survivors being fed that much information. And the continued nerf to killers is definitely irritating. Perfect example: Spirit. They changed it to where survivors can always hear where she's at when she's phasing, not to mention BHVR is still contemplating including a visual dust cue on the ground. As if that wasn't bad enough, they gave a buff to Iron Will if she's using Stridor. So survivors will always be able to hear her, but she can no longer hear them in any way. I'm not even a guy who plays Spirit, and even I think that's ridiculous.

Honestly between the nerfs and the SWF, I've accepted the fact that I'm lucky if I get one kill.

  • @JPLongstreet said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/293784/why-cant-the-ptb-exist-on-consoles

The reason as I understand it is due to how long it takes DBD game file updates (patches/hotfixes) to be approved separately by Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo. And the PTB essentially is an alternate set of game files.

Apparently it's like a 5-7 day turnaround or something, and also the reason why more than one patch even in the same week doesn't happen.

If the game has stayed only on PC they could've pumped three updates through Steam in a single day if necessary.

Makes sense, but if that is the case, then it definitely makes console players like myself hold off from purchasing these chapters on release date. If BHVR can't accurately see how well these chapters run on consoles without releasing it first, then I'm certainly going to hold off on day one purchases from now on, especially after how horrible Next of Kin and Resident Evil chapters ran on day one.

I thought I was going to at least play two matches a day, and maybe finish dailies. But the game is so unbearable as killer I just don't login anymore. Previously, I used to sit and cycle through perks to make builds, but nothing works anymore. The game used to feel like being saddled with more work than you have time to complete. But now, it just feels like there's no point in trying. So, I haven't been playing regularly.

I imagine the game will recover when they stop balancing for new players, and stop catering to people that don't like PvP games that choose to play a PvP game. What makes a PvP game a good PvP game is the balancing, and there are survivors that still complain even though the game is so easy for survivors it's boring to play as.

I used to do the same. I figured that I would tackle whatever the daily challenge was for killer, and then turn off the game. But like you said playing killer is so stressful that I don't have fun in that role anymore. The nerfs that they keep applying to killers makes playing as them incredibly frustrating. Perfect example: Spirit. Survivors received a buff to Iron Will in that Spirit can no longer hear survivors that equip it, and thanks to the recent nerf Spirit received, players will always be able to hear where she's at when she's phasing. So imagine never being able to hear survivors, but survivors can always hear where you're at. This is supposed to be a 4 v 1 game! Makes playing as the "1" less than ideal, and sadly that kind of balancing keeps being applied to all killers in general.

    Yeah.

I mean, this is basically my last 4 games.

Game #1: Obnoxious Pinhead game. Full SWF, 3 with flashlights and one toolbox (all switched to last second). Haddonfield offering+further hooks offering. Clearly smurfed their MMR down, there is no way I should be playing against 3000 hour players with my sub 300. Teabagging and clicky macros from the start. One got cocky and I hooked, which led to me being able to pressure and get my chain hunts+Plaything+Retribution combo going. They got into lockers until the AFK crows started, then they all DCed.

Game #2: Good Hag game on Ormond. I get 2 kills, but it was close. GG's all round in postgame.

Game #3: Pinhead game on DDS. Survivor runs up to me almost from the start, teabags. I down them, hook them and they suicide on hook. I decide to be a nice guy and give the others a chance to farm, deliberately letting them get a few gens deep and not 3 hooking anyone, usually letting them have a chance to heal. Game still takes ages because they don't bother looking for the box once the chain hunt starts. I get yelled at in postgame for 'not ending' and they threaten to report me for holding the game hostage. Urgh.

Game #4: Demo game on Haddonfield. Survivors get 3 gens done super fast, I manage to hook someone and that person rage DCs. I wind up with a nicely defensible 4gen (for Haddonfield), with portals in excellent positions and end up with a 4k fairly fast. I get yelled at in postgame for being sweaty and not 'giving them a chance when they had a DC'.

    You just can't win.

Honestly I just want a bot mode like what DBD mobile has. These days I'll take playing over real players any day. The less I have to contend with toxicity the better. At least with bots I can facilitate how hard or easy they will be.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2622983#Comment_2622983

    Bingo.

I support this game because I really, really like it. It's still very frustrating to be a killer main, and only part of that is the mechanics of the game.

There seems to be an attitude towards the killer role from both developers and survivor players that is different to the attitude towards survivor players. Nerfs are doled out more rapidly, and often inexplicably in the name of 'this is unfun to play against', despite this being true of nearly every meta survivor perk and addon.

Not to mention the daily 'we should be allowed to DC if we aren't having fun' thread, inevitably written by a survivor player.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2623199#Comment_2623199

I don't mind this. I try to think of killer as more being a facilitator of fun games for the survivors.

That said, a big part of what makes me bitter is the attitude of survivors in-game.

If they spent a few days playing killer, they'd be a lot more grateful to killers who don't play for the 4k every game, rather than teabagging and flashing killers all the way to the gate and gloating at them in postgame.

Yes, this is the internet and as such, probably needs a jumbo enema. It still does wear on me over time.

The toxicity can definitely wear you down. Nothing worse than getting stomped by a toxic team. It's easy to tell someone to just ignore it, but another thing entirely when you're inundated with it time and again.

  • Killer is not the power role, and hasn't been for quite some time. The sad truth is, is that playing killer is far more nerve-wracking which is ridiculous. As such I've learned to accept that when I play killer, I have to face the fact that I'm lucky if I get one kill. There is no perk nor power that can counter a well-coordinated SWF.

  • Because of SBMM I find myself getting matched against people I have no business playing against. If there aren't enough highly skilled players available, then I usually get walked all over. Sad thing is it wouldn't be so bad if this was a ranking system that actually looked at actual skill, but instead it revolves around kills and escapes, and in my experience nothing good has really come from it.

  • Personally I think there are few things that go into this. First of all, there hasn't been a major theatrical Hellraiser movie in years. There's been some straight to DVD releases, (some of which have been incredibly bad) but nothing that's caught fire, and because of that Pinhead has fallen off the radar for many people. He hasn't had an opportunity to be exposed to a new audience. Thankfully there is a new reboot coming out that will hopefully live up to the original and please fans both old and new.

Secondly, as people have indicated, playing as Pinhead isn't exactly a walk in the park. Not only are his chains very hard to use, but he's the only killer that can sandbag his own power. Most of the time you have no choice but to walk through your own chains in order to get to a hooked survivor, and when you do that you instantly break your own chain. Chains already break easily against the environment as it is, and having you add to that made it frustrating to play. Personally for me if they were to remove this detriment I could see myself playing him a lot more.

  • Disconnecting against a hacker is completely understandable, and it's frustrating to see a ban happen because of it. But otherwise a DC is still a DC, and if you're abandoning a match for no other reason than you simply don't want to be there anymore (and we've all been guilty of doing it), then you shouldn't be treated any different from those who repeatedly DC. You may not be a jerk in the majority of your matches, but I guarantee those that played with you in the few that you did feel otherwise.

  • Gamers have been asking for this for years. In other words, don't hold your breath.

  • OMG I haven't laughed this hard in a long time! Lord that picture couldn't be more accurate!

So sorry man that you're going through this. Stay strong! It's a shame that there are still plenty of people out there who don't take covid seriously. Hope to see you back in the fog soon!

  • @Irisora said:

MM is broken or non existent. In soloq i get a lot of eyesores that can't loop the killer a single time and to top it off ialmost every killer tunnel and camp from hook 1. So its ######### up for both sides.. The only ones that rejoice are SWF in this game.

SWF is what leads to a lot of enjoyment with this game. Unfortunately dead by daylight was not designed with voice chat in mind, and of course BHVR won't remove it because it's too popular of a feature. But the downside is that the killer has no perk that can adequately counter survivors benefiting from being fed so much information. And unless you're devoting hours each day into mastering the mechanics of the game, you'll just be walked all over, which has definitely led to many players like myself playing less and less.

  • The biggest downfall about SBMM is that if there aren't enough high-ranking players currently online within your region, then you'll be facing off against people you have no business playing with or against. Believe me I feel your pain. I'm a very casual player myself, and I rarely touch killer as it is, and when the new ranking system went into effect I played one match with Doctor and one match with Pyramid Head, and I only managed one hook with Doctor and one kill with Pyramid Head. It was miserable. The other night I played three back-to-back matches with Nemesis and I only managed one kill in each match.

Technically speaking I should have the lowest of the low when it comes to SBMM for killer, and yet I just get walked all over. It hasn't been fun at all, and I feel everyone's pain with the new MMR. The amount of people playing killer is dwindling, and unless BHVR does something soon, the queue times for survivor is going to get ridiculously long.

  • Yeah the code giveaways are nice and all, but the fact that it's a one-time-use means everyone is mad scrambling to not only take advantage of it, but if you're doing anything remotely productive like working, then it's pointless.

  • Michael Myers is the only killer that can literally run out of power if the remaining survivors are unable to be stalked. Personally I think once a survivor is highlighted in red, then the stalking speed is reduced by 50% instead of being removed completely.

  • @danielmaster87 said:

SWF isn't toxic. The people in one can be.

Exactly this. SWF isn't toxic, it's the people in it that can make it that way. I completely agree though that having a well-coordinated team all talking together puts the killer at a huge disadvantage as there's no killer perk that can properly counter that. It's what can make playing as a stealth killer really frustrating. Sad thing is, dead by daylight was not designed with voice chat, but BHVR allows it, and obviously for good reason because it's popular. But what sucks is that they don't do anything to inform Killers that they're playing against a team on comms. At the very least they could give you increase blood points for having to play against a handicap like that.

Swf needs separate queue, this would solve so much problems, swf is not only bad for killers it's also bad for solo survs, nothing worse than being matched with swf because they will priorize their mates mostly. The thing is that to perform well vs a good discord swf you need to be an experienced killer at least +1k hours or you will just get stomped and humilated. You can not learn this from watching videos, you need game sense that only comes with experience so that you make the right quick decisions without thinking.

One point that is overlooked imo is that the experienced killers are the most important players for the game, they bring the fun for survivors but they are leaving and switching roles, you can see that by the many recent complaints about camping killers, good killers don't do that, a lot of people just play killer for challenges, without the rifts the situation would be far worse. Also nowadays even if you are a good killer you need to tunnel, it's forced, who tells you else has no idea, i can't even take the time to kick gens anymore as for how fast i have to do anything.

To op: You are not going to be a successfull killer soon, simple as that, so decide for yourself if you are willing to take that long dark road that is killer school, is it worth it? Probably. Focus on basic gameplay not perks, you need to master basic gameplay, then it doesn't matter much which killer you are using, i perform roughly the same with any killer.

I appreciate the advice, I really do, however the downside about playing dead by daylight as killer is that not only are you at a great disadvantage should you be facing a SWF, but so many matches are heavily predicated on RNG, which sucks.

And you're right, you need to play consistently in order to get better, that can be said with any game, but because dead by daylight has no true training mode, practicing against people more highly-skilled then you can easily get people tilted and cause them to stop playing altogether. It's kind of like that argument with single-player games, where some people say, "Hey after 12 hours the game gets really good!". But who realistically wants to devote that much time into something before they start enjoying it? To each their own, but I'm not one of those people.

  • @JawsIsTheNextKiller said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/291910/i-just-cant-do-killer-anymore

I'm going to make an assumption here. You are swapping killers.

You should pick a killer and play a few games without swapping to another. It should only take a few games for your MMR to adjust for that killer.

If you keep swapping killers you will just encounter loss, loss, loss, loss and you won't see a noticable change in your MMR.

I have swapped between a few different Killers recently, but they're killers that I'm used to playing with. But since I rarely play killer to begin with, my rating should be fairly low, especially if it's on a Killer I've never touched before. But it doesn't seem to matter.

Perfect example, my very first match with Pinhead resulted in one of the most sweatiest, toxic games that I've ever had. Constant teabagging, pointing, flashlight clicking, it was miserable. At the end of the match that resulted in just one hook, I got messages like "EZ killer", "git gud", etc. As you can imagine I decided to switch back to killers that I was used to playing, but it didn't get any better. Simply put, being thrown into the deep end to learn how to swim is an incredibly frustrating learning tool.

  • @Pulsar said:

I am sorry you feel that way.

Man you hit the nail on the head! There's nothing more defeating then being told to ######### at the end of a match. Nothing incentivizes me more to play something else.

  • @Yamaoka said:

Seems like many people are giving up on killer gameplay.

Personally I play more killer than ever before because since MMR I just feel like losing as killer is the most normal thing.

Doesn't mean I lose every match of course but you know... If you have those unwinnable matches at least you know it now happens to any other killer player as well.

Tru3, CoconutRTS, Ralph, Otz, SchwabbelTown (a very good german killer main) etc. - all of them now lose regularly despite their experience and dedication.

It's not rocket science. Killers have to juggle 4 survivors with 2 health states and 3 hook states while using the killer's mechanics to their full potential while survivors have to press the action button on windows and pallets to prolong chases and otherwise hold the action button on a generator to win. Survivor gameplay by default is just easier.

The killer's objective not only takes longer (unless you try to slug and 1 hook everyone) but it's more difficult to complete said objective as well.

Even if a survivor is fairly new to the game it will take a while to catch them if they just pre drop safe pallets and hold forward even if they don't even look behind them in chase.

Think of The Game map. Not only are there a billion pallets but most of them are so safe the survivors can literally drop them without looking at the killer and be safe for a while unless it's one of the few killers that can somehow ignore pallets and still hit you (i.e. Nurse).

That's just my opinion anyways as someone who's played both sides since 2017.

That's fair. I do find myself playing survivor far more because it seems as though if there aren't enough high-ranking players currently online within your region, then you'll be facing off against people you have no business playing against. For people like myself that can prove problematic, because having to grind for hours upon hours against far more experienced players doesn't make for a good learning tool. Not suggesting that bots would be a better alternative, but at least it would allow casual players like myself to get a better understanding of a Killers power then being forced into sweat-inducing matches time and again.

DBD is still a fun game to watch, and for some streamers it is the meat and potatoes of their content.

Agreed. I find it more entertaining to watch players with thousands of hours under their belt play killer instead of myself playing killer. With DBD having no proper training mode, getting thrown against far more experienced players time and again doesn't make for a great learning tool.

  • @Wampa1 said:

Couldn’t agree more, tried pointing this out on another thread and someone took exception to it and got all defensive of the game.I’ve played it on various formats since release,it has always had its faults but was also fun to play.Due to recent updates nerfs/buffs etc it is increasingly frustrating to play as killer.I’m sure VHS will have its flaws also but from what I’ve seen it looks more balanced. If the gameplay lives up to the hype people will leave in droves which is a shame.

The nice thing about VHS is that it's kill or be killed. Not only that, but all the perks on offer is available right from the get-go. If there's a perk that you want, then you can go for it. No pointless RNG grinding like there is in DBD.

  • It looks like you're encountering what I personally have encountered. If there's not enough high-ranking players currently online within your region, then most likely you'll be playing against people you have no business playing against. In a way it's no different than the old style matchmaking. You'll get some good matches and some bad matches. But if it's any consolation, according to the devs you just lost four straight games, so your next game/s should be easier.

  • The fact that Pinhead can break his own chains by walking through them makes playing as him a bit of a pain. Most of the time you can't help but walk through your own chains, and if BHVR were to remove that detriment, then he could be a really decent killer imo.

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

I just wish survivors could consistently get around the same amount of points that killers generally do without having to run WGLF. If you have a bad match you may not even get 10k. You can lose as killer and still get 15-20k.

I generally play around 70% survivor 30% killer, but a lot of the time I play killer is either at night when survivor queues are long, or when I feel like actually being able to get a substantial amount of bloodpoints.

I don't think this would entirely fix it, but I wouldn't be opposed to the idea of the BP categories being uncapped (eg. you can get more than 8000 in one category if you're the survivor that is on gens all game and never gets chased, or you get chased all game and can't be on gens) while still keeping the 32k total cap.

It sucks that WGLF doesn't work for picking someone up from the dying state. You already have a hundred percent increase speed in doing so, so why the two can't be tied together is beyond me.

  • It's sad that you literally can't go for the perks that you want. If BHVR wants to keep the blood web entirely RNG, then at the very least they can throw in a blood hunt once a month. The grind is absolutely atrocious, and the fact that they haven't done anything to fix it in over 5 years should tell you that they had no intention of doing anything now.

That is very true. The grind for shards is ridiculous. There are so many costumes that cost well over twenty thousand shards, and at most you'll get 300 shards upon ranking up, but that's only within the higher numbers. It's pathetic.

DBD mobile team: "Enjoy triple the blood points and experience for Halloween."

DBD team: "Here's some codes and some pumpkins".

The mobile team isn't anywhere near as protective of BP as the PC/console team is. Why? I have no clue. Maybe the mobile team is made up out of a lot of PC/console players who know how bad the grind is so they're doing a bunch of BP events. It makes me wonder what would happen if mobile and PC/console switched teams. Would mobile suddenly stop getting a crap ton of BP events?

What's even crazier is that the mobile game is FREE TO PLAY! Every time that I'm tempted to spend money on DBD, I'm reminded of what we still don't have 5 years later: no bot mode, no way to test out new killers/survivors, very few blood hunts to help reduce the grind, etc.

Because they love grind, the last double bp event was on dbd anniversary

Clearly😕. 5 years of perks that have to be grinded for. And not just the perks themselves, but you got to keep it up if you want to get to level three. If they haven't done something to fix this within five years time, then they sure as hell aren't going to do anything now.

    Pain.

Why is BHVR so stingy with BP

Agreed. Like if BHVR doesn't want to do anything to lessen the grind in the game, then throw in a blood hunt at least once a month. The grind is atrocious, and it's something that is talked about ad nauseam even from their own fog whispers.

The sad thing is that they have like double BP events all the time like every other weekend it seems like and we rarely get one and they didn't even pay for the game.

That being said I'm happy with the current event and the points they're giving out, the cosmetics in with the challenges etc... they really have done a pretty good job so far lol the amount of things they touched on in the last patch was nice, we can't complain too much at the moment.

If you are enjoying the Halloween event then that's great, but I find it lacking because it only rewards players that have purchased the new survivor. Now granted if you have enough shards then you can use that, but otherwise you have to spend money, and seeing that the survivor unlockables in the Halloween rift only cater to something that you have to spend currency on is really disappointing.
