I like new killers coming into the game, but it presents a learning curve for both new killer and survivors. It's just one of those things, I suppose.

I like Spine Chill and use it a lot. It's effective against all killers and particularly effective against stealth killiers, such as Ghostface, Wraith, Pig and Shape. But I don't use Spine Chill all the time. There are times when I'm in a game with say, a Wraith, and bring something like Balanced Landing on a map with no verticality and wish I'd brought Spine Chill instead. I just wish I had 5 or 6 perk slots sometimes.

At the start of the PTB, Ghostface made some eerie sounds when stalking (or was it approaching?) a survivor. But killer mains, including red rank YouTubers, made a big fuss about it and BHVR removed it. I can see why the devs were reluctant to create a stealth killer with such a strong ability, without giving survivors much of a warning.

It wasn't just killer mains that complained. He was simply too weak, although it was only partially because of the sounds that gave away he was in stealth. In fact, the main issue was how easy it was to break him out - there was no buffer. Now, though, GF can abuse that buffer, removing the intended counterplay unless someone runs around following him and pulling him out whenever he intends to stalk.

  • @Jimsalabim said:

I feel like his power is so underwhelming and boring. shock shock and more shock. I really think he needs to have some variation in his repertoire to be a bit more upredictable and scary. He is crazy he could do so many tricks with the survivors to spice it up. Are the devs just afraid that this is too hard to balance or they just don't care to mix it up a bit?

He's the next killer to get tweaks, and they'll be buffs so we shall see what happens. :)

  • I actually think he needs very rare and rare versions of these add-ons that are a bit weaker, as tbh most of his add-ons don't have much use (admittedly still better than most plague add-ons lmao)

  • If the ghostface is stealthy, there's no way to really counter him, sadly. He can easily 99 survivors he doesn't commit to and go for easier chases, in order to catch you off guard for an instadown with no warning.

(Not saying he needs a nerf, please no, he's too fun to play as, but against he's just not fun)

I would disagree. By the time you hooked the survivor twice (assuming you are playing against a good survivor) 3 gens will have already popped. I think chasing/injuring multiple people is the most efficient and gen delaying playstyle.

I know lol, I'm just messing since the majority of the forum killer mains talk like that unironically despite the fact that what you say is true

I don't think moris are really fair. They shave off a lot of the difficulty of sacrificing a survivor, many times resulting in a win that wasn't really acquired with skill or strategy.

What do you mean? Tunneling is a highly efficient strategy (lol)

The best I've come up with is modifying the requirements to mori a survivor.

Cypress Mori would allow you to Mori the obsession after the first hook.

Ivory Mori would allow you to Mori 2 survivors once all survivors have been hooked at least once.

Ebony Mori would allow you to Mori all 4 survivors after all 4 have been hooked at least once.

I feel like they'd still be powerful, but you could no longer just tunnel a survivor down.

As for keys. Why not add an extra gen needs to be finished to use the key? So in order to have a 3 man hatch escape all gens would need to be completed. For a two man escape 4 gens need to be done. And 3 gens for a one man escape. This would take pressure off the killers a bit. While still making keys fairly strong.

As a side note. I really wish they'd remove broken keys. Or massively up the aura reading abilities. That or make broken keys require you to succeed a series of skill checks to use to unlock the hatch.

Broken keys could just have innate larger aura reading range and longer use and they'd be fine. I actually like to bring skeleton keys in just for the auras since 30 seconds is a lot to have of bond or killer view.

That said, broken keys with the wedding ring are pretty decent.

    4 swf + 4 flashlights -> Ebony incoming.

I mean, flashlights and medkits are what I like to see in my lobbies as killer. It means they'll waste time doing things other than gens.

You're forgetting two important things - (a) you earn about half of your Rift fragments from completing challenges, and (b) you earn xp while you're playing matches to complete challenges.

So the total time to complete the Rift will probably end up being closer to 100 hours than 200. Personally, I'm guessing around the 120 mark. Which is still a fair way above the devs' original estimate of 70-80, but not so catastrophic as some people's inflated estimates would have us believe.

That is still absolutely catastrophic, though.

I've had some green ping games where it happened regardless...

Ping is misleading and it's subject to change depending on the users internet... it could say it's green but spike to red in an instant...

And it's not even ping that causes this... it can just be because of the lunges range in-general.

Dude, it's 100% ping related lmao the only way this can happen is if there is something wrong with latency.

  • I get why; Freddy is assumed to always be running pop, ruin, forever freddy add-ons. I don't run that stuff but get some people DC instantly as soon as they realise because of who I am. Depressing, but I understand why.

Especially when you consider that these builds are combined with the bloated kit he has thats not that fun to go against.

  • @FireHazard said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/817360#Comment_817360

Yes, to this extent even before Dedicated Servers came out.

I know it's easy to say Dedicated Servers is causing this... but it's much more than DS's when it comes to the lunges in this game. They're all by default the same, and no matter what people think... that's 100% how it is...

Some people perceive the lunge to be "broken" or "too long" because their hitbox had to be extended to accomplish this feat... that's why Freddy's always looks odd... Same with Hag... but the lunge has always been able to go behind the pallet to hit you on the other side... even if you stun the Killer.

Also, another note. It also has to do with 3rd person vs 1st person... so to the Killer the attack hit, but to the Survivors that's not the case.

It was able, but it was rare. A green ping game would never allow it to happen, whereas now it happens almost every game, multiple times a game; as I said, the servers exacerbated it; I didn't say they caused it.

And I can also confirm that the 1st vs 3rd person view argument is false, given just how much I play both roles.

Theoretically that's what should happen, but in DBD its usually the opposite. Remember DBD doesn't have an ordinary playerbase.

When playing as a survivor 8/10 times I see a survivor trash talk a killer saying "your bad, ez win, Go #########, camper, etc..", I've rarely see a killer do this, and most of the time after I match I'll say you did great, or some form of encouragement, because a Killer is very unrelaxing to play. But they are one of the players bases that can take it, on the other hand survivors can dish it, but not take it.

Every other game I get as survivor I get that from trhe killer lol

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/102231/worst-experience-ever-as-a-nice-killer-really-what-do-you-guys-think

Survivors are toxic, people argue on this all the time but any reasonable realizes most of the toxic people are survivors because survivor can constantly win and is a lot more relaxed as killer. Not everybody but i bring it up because it's really not worth listening to the toxic people who only play survivor on here lol.

This situation just sucked but for future reference you should never trust them, you should have dropped him as soon as he sent the message and downed the other guy. I think it goes without saying but in that situation it would be just as much of a dick move to kill them both

That logic doesn't add up, tbh. Less relaxed = more toxic, which is the opposite to what you suggest.

In reality both killers and survivors are just as bad; it's the DBD community as a whole. In fact, online gaming communities in general, at that!

    Freddy, red ranks, Xbox, Ormond

Yesterday I had to do the mission to sacrifice 5 survivors, I get a 4k as legion and then proceed to start a match as Freddy...

THEY DIDN'T EVEN DO A GEN (Full red ranks SWF)! I get them all to last hook, 2 guys DC (which doesn't count as a sacrifice for the challenge...) and then I go and message the last 2 guys "care to farm? I need 1 sacrificed survivor for a challenge, so, 1 of you has to die and the other can escape, you guys pick who", they answer back "sure, full red ranks and couldn't even do a gen, you're a really good killer, thanks"

I farm with them, and as soon as the last gen pops I let one destroy my NOED and then I proceeded to down him, he messages me "not me", I let him wiggle off, and as he runs away I notice what's happening... the other guy was at the hatch with a key... They both got a hatch escape...

REALLY?! You get to play against a non tunneler, non camper killer who owns your team and lets you farm by politely asking for ONE KILL, ONE! And you play me like this...?

I sent a message to both... "That was really low... I guess that's what I get for being nice"

Survivor 1: "Yep, that's what you get, deal with it"

Survivor 2 "I see an oportunity, I take it"

DON'T YOU DARE COMPLAIN ABOUT TOXICITY IN THIS GAME WHEN YOU ARE THE KIND OF PEOPLE WHO PROMOTE IT!

Sorry if I bored you, just felt like sharing...

I'm not gonna stop doing this kind of nice things every now and then, but I surely got really mad...

Someone already posted it but it just reminded me of Otz's latest video, to be honest.

I'd always just take the first one in that situation, although I'd likely not message to offer a farm at that point in the game, especially not in red ranks. As survivor and killer, I can safely say red rank players are the worst.

Idk why it seems that ever since the latest update, the survivor moaning seem way louder. I notice it both as a killer and as a survivor, so much that I started wasting a perk slot to use iron will... Am I hearing things? Lol is it just me?

Sounds that are tells within the game seem much more obvious now; for example I not once heard the Spirit's feet walking while in phase, until this patch. Now, if she's using Prayer Beads and I'm aware, I can listen out for and hear her footsteps very slightly.

Other noises seem much better too; I wonder if it's a result of the upgraded engine.

I would argue survivor moans seem too loud right now, at times. It's as if I'm running stridor; they sound like they're right next to me but they can be like 2-3 loops away quite often.

Here's an idea. Get however many gens are needed to power the exit gates up to 99.9%. Pop one then if the killer leaves the hatch to investigate then run to the hatch. If the killer keeps camping, pop another one. A lot of times killers will just AFK while standing on the hatch to screw with survivors. Maybe this increases the risk of dying, but you'll get more bloodpoints even if you die just by getting into another game. No matter how you slice it, hatch stand offs are a waste of time and unnecessary. In the past, I would always blame the killer for hatch stand offs but this sounds entirely like your fault.

This most certainly was the killer player being at fault, tbh.

  • In the scenario of being slugged there should really be an option to concede defeat and leave the match without DCing, tbh. Easy fix.

I do like the idea of letting the survivor choose to bleedout faster, although if that happens then they should probably not show exact health of said survivor to the killer. Either hide it or show as if they didn't choose to speed it.

    Billy could use a adjustment.

Instasaw billy is broken, but most don't run it and billy himself is fine. The devs even say so...please dont whine and get one of the more fun killers to play vs nerfed...

Freddy has a loaded kit; forever freddy should not be a thing on top of him having spirit level of 'mindgame' built into him. (that is to say, the game does the mindgaming for the player)

  • Only time I care about SWF is when I somehow queue up against a 4 stack of rank 1-3's as a rank 11 killer, as an instant queue, as well.

Meanwhile as survivor I can queue up for half an hour and get my rank killer every time, both swf or solo. lmao.

  • @anarchy753 said:

Ok first, overperforming. A killer should (we assume) average 2 kills per match if they are "balanced," good survivors should beat them, bad survivors should die to them, good killer players should do well on them, bad killer players will probably struggle.

If a killer is overperforming, that means that they're averaging far more kills than that. It isn't simply that good players are playing them a lot, but that their power gives too much reward for how difficult it is to use. Spirit is not difficult to use, her power gives her huge mobility, allows her to land easy hits with very little counterplay on the survivor's side (there's not really anything you can do about a killer bumping into you and knowing exactly where to swing when you have no idea if they're behind you or in front of you) and her add ons present some huge issues, like Prayer Beads.

To say "don't nerf Spirit, buff everything else" is what people (Nurse mains) said for years about Nurse. The issue is that that presumes that Spirit is balanced, and that buffing everything else up bring EVERYTHING to a point of balance. From the information we're given (that she is "overperforming") we know she ISN'T balanced.

Nerfing her, like Nurse, is not going to bring her down to M1 killer tier by default. There's a lot of small tweaks (taking out prayer beads, no collision while phasing, no passive phasing, an actual tell to her standing-still "mind game") that would make her much fairer to play against without hurting most good Spirit players significantly.

People who like killer don't often just suddenly start enjoying survivor more. People play different killers, it's more about the hunting and gameplay than it is about just playing DBD. Red rank killers don't HAVE to play the most broken thing in the game to do well, and if they do, they probably shouldn't be highly ranked anyway. It's incredibly unlikely that changing Spirit would magically kill red ranks. Consider that most of these killer nerfs, buffs and reworks are coming alongside map reworks that make playing other killers less cumbersome, and a lot of fixes to things on the survivor side as well. It isn't as simple as "nerf Spirit, killer as a whole is dead."

Yes, there is a "next" after Spirit too, the devs basically gave a not-quite-concise list on the Q&A this week, mostly problematic add ons like Iridescent heads, or the Key/Mori situation. It doesn't mean 1 by 1 they're killing anything good, it's change to make both sides more enjoyable across the board by fixing overly strong aspects of the game that are oppressive because of how strong they are. Sadly, Spirit is one of those things.

Thank you for breaking the chain in this echo chamber. It's scary to see so many outirght ignoring the information we were given previously with regards to the spirit's performance.

I found it! Thank you very much. https://deadbydaylight.com/en/news/welcome-to-the-archives

It says every two weeks on there, with the first scheduled to release on the 5th of November (two weeks after the planned release on the 22nd) but I expect that will be pushed back due to the delay, so we can probably fairly safely expect a new Tome on the 13th.

no problem, and nice, i couldn't find it so assumed it was gone now! I expect they will be delayed too, but we shall see.

  • There were dates given on the website before, but it's now gone since that's been changed due to the delay. They were more or less every 14-16 days from what I remember, though.

  • @CallMeBacon said:

To be totally honest, none of these challenges would be as bad as they are if they just removed the "do in one trial" condition. They would just be time consuming and honestly that seems a better way to do this rather than make us tear out our hair trying over and over again.

Especially when there are bugs that stop progression from occurring every other game...

EDIT: Looking at the wording, I think its obvious that it doesn't have to be within a single match.

It's a master challenge, which means within one match...and literally says in a single match??????

  • To those saying it just means finish; read it again.

'completely repair' means from 0 to 100. it doesn't mean solo, but it's simply not doable in a realistic context.

Camping sucks, but it tends to get better once you get into higher ranks. Seems like the noobs don't know what else to do, or they don't have perks to tell them where to go....

My experience is the opposite; baby killers hardcamp, middle rank killers don't; red rank killers tend to.

  • @Mochan said:

Camping is nasty in this game, but not much to be done about it except learn to avoid the killer and learn to loop him well or juke him if he does find you.

Often it's that time for me for survivor, but instant as killer here on PC in Australia.

    This is recent, however.

  • I guess when we begged the devs to look at the challenges and rethink them they decided to internally say 'f* you we'll make you do what we want so that you suffer our mistakes'

The killer ones are so unlikely and the survivor ones too, unless in a swf (outside of flashlighting killer twice...do they expect us to intrentionally lobby into our friends as killers????)

Sorry for interrupting you sir. Excuse me please.

Seems I found the actual person that doesn't know what the nerf changed, but ok then. Nice ad hom, btw.

  • Going so far as to fix sounds so we can actually hear her footsteps would go along way to nerfing her/adding counterplay without changing her at all. I hope they start with that...since the main problem child here is the prayer beads add-on.

That said, the only real skill one needs to be a good spirit is to have a good headset. If all killers and survivors were this way too, that would be fine, but this isn't an FPS game by design (it could be but that would mean a TON of fundamental redesigns are necessary to make this ok)

because myers doesn't loss progress like ghostface, don't tell me you plan to make myers loss his power gauge like legion do ๐Ÿ˜‚ (Just a joke)

Legion shouldn't be losing power gauge after a regular M1 attack; it's a non-lethal power. (And that's not getting into the ridiculous stun length)

Being able to pocket the exposed effect that easily per person would be incredibly unfun and broken.

Myers is fine to do this because popping it once pops it for all survivors. it has cool techs but it's not abusable whereas removing this mechanic on GF would reward him for failing to use his power in a previous chase. Very oppressive and lacks any form of counterplay.

It is a eight second heal, no build needed. Just some pallet and some looping.

If a killer sees you use a medkit on them and it disappears they're going to know what's happened lol. Picking up a survivor cancels it. A build is most definitely needed to make ti work in most scenarios.

  • Lol they're far from useable unless you literally make an entire build surrounding the idea you might use it once in a game...(not a complaint, per se. I'd prefer a full rework so we have an add-on with use that isn't grossly OP, but then again we still have moris not getting changed...)

  • Yep, good riddance. Now for Moris...

  • How melodramatic; she's still S tier.

  • Dedicated servers have overall made the experience worse; green ping games don't make you immune to being hit from a thousand miles away, etc, as we were promised they would, grabs are buggy as all hell, and there are plenty of other issues that came with them including extra bugs for lobbies/matchmaking.

  • No thanks.

Still seeing too many people get kicked from the game (if there's no DC sound, the game crashed on them and it's every other game)

In addiiton to that, there are too many justifiable reasons to leave a game instantly rather than wait to be hooked, etc, when you just want to get on with your games, etc. Couple this with the fact that it takes so long to find a game right now for either role, and if you so much as duo as survivor the lobby error bug alongside loading screen crashes make it take obscene amounts of time to get a game; if it's one in which you're being farmed, a fellow survivor is running around just dropping pallets intentionally/sandbagging. Conversely, plenty of reasons for killers to DC too in this same vain. It's just not practical. I used to want DC punishments but then I saw the reality of the game, and it's all too contextual.

That is, a blanket punishment on all DC is very bad. And that is the only card the devs have dealt us; it's a horrific one.
