He's going to be a lot stronger if the buffs get through

    Eh.

His strengths will be better but his weaknesses will be worse, and he has weaknesses for days.

  • Freddy. He's just boring.

He's supposed to make my character go to sleep, not me.

Clown is another one I don't like facing. I always either get ones that carpet bomb me with purple stank or have an Iri Finger. Also, a Clown player committed the msot egregious tunneling against me I've ever encountered, and I'm still scarred by it.

  • I think omnidirectional moaning would be pretty neat. It gets louder or quieter, but it doesn't let you know what angle she's coming from.

That way, you'd know to get ready to make a play, but she still has advantage of determining the attack vector.

Seriously, it's like he was designed to be terrible. Every single game I play with him just goes horribly, because he has absolutely no presence.

    Well, here's why he's bad:

    • He has no real way to apply pressure to the map.
    • He is required to stick to a single target at a time.
    • He cannot change targets once he starts stacking Laceration or else he will lose resources with nothing to show for it.
    • He is not good at handling high wall loops.
    • He has no snowball potential whatsoever on account of Laceration.
    • He can lose damage to a target easily if he loses track of them or they fail to present Line of Sight long enough to refresh the Laceration Decay timer.
    • Due to Laceration Decay, Trickster does not have the capability to make long term plays, only short term. By short term, I mean immediate. If he goes 20+ seconds without hitting someone with his knife, all damage he has dealt with knives is gone.
    • His build options are a bit more limited than others because he has a Lullaby. (ie: He cannot make stealth builds)
    • Building off that last one, it's actually fairly hard to make a build that synergizes with his gameplay.
    • Main Event cannot be stored and used as part of a plan, which makes it at best unreliable and at worst completely worthless.
    • Main Event fires automatically, broadcasting his location and allowing Survivors to avoid it (and him) rather easily.
    • Due to the single target issues listed above, he has no real method of applying pressure to a small group, and must instead pick one to pressure while the others can leave without consequence.
    • Main Event, for what little it is worth, is penalized every time he smacks someone with his standard attack.
    • Main Event deactivates his knives for a period after use, not allowing him to follow up and finish off any work he did with Main Event.
    • On top of everything else, Trickster is a 4.4m/s killer, despite how weak his power is.

Nah I think it’s probably Blight, then Huntress, then Nurse, then...Billy maybe? Pyramid is up there too.

Huntress has easy hitboxes but in theory a god aimbot huntress is doing skybox shots 24/7 right?

These are all debatable and likely situational. Which is fine, it shows a good variety of characters with learning curves for players that want a challenge with good payoff.

But it runs great on PS5, so is it a hardware issue or not?

    Both.

The game is simply not the same game on each system. The optimization for each one is going to be different. Clearly, something went wrong with the latest DLC that is taxing the older consoles too heavily. If I had to guess, it's shader related, though I have no way of knowing for certain. Furthermore, the game is hardly streamlined from the get-go, with its constant hiccups and odd pauses between actions suggesting the code is in dire need of being cleaned up. All of this piled onto older hardware without optimizations to make it work better on said hardware can and will cause issues.

He called her brain dead because she was Strong and when I told him it's the hardest Killer to master along with being the most bugged, he said it wasn't. That's the only screenshot I didn't bother getting since it cut out right after.

Nurse is arguably not the hardest killer to master.

She's the hardest to get good with, but arguably not to master. Blight is, in theory, harder to master, because he is forced to interact with everything on the map to get results. Furthermore, Blight players need to create a massive mental list of things they slide or bounce off of, and recall that at split second intervals when determining their pathing. Nurse is probably second behind him. Also, this is all debatable, but Blight has a good case insofar as mastery is concerned.

All that said, Nurse is certainly not braindead and is ONE of the hardest killers to learn, much less git gud at, much less master.

Edit: Also, that's not even a very good Nurse build. If you were running Infectious Fright, they could at least complain about you riding the scream notices to easy hits. Nurse doesn't need slowdown, so a Nurse using slowdown is clearly a Nurse that hasn't learned Nurse that well yet. The fact they lost is entirely on them, not you.

  • I really hope so. DbD has a unique premise, but has many flaws holding it back.

I also worry that better games COULD come out, but that people wouldn't play them because of the licensing DbD has. On top of that, some people are kinda mindlessly devoted to this game, and have, in the past, made a point to poopoo on any competition that is even offered. That kind of fan zeal can kill better games in favor of the worse-but-popular one.

I play many other games, and even when I'm completely outclassed, I feel like I got a fair shake. DbD is one of the only games I play where I don't often feel that. Things are either stacked for or against me, fair shake be damned. I don't like that. If another game came along with a similar premise but felt more fair, I'd hop on that in a heartbeat.

Well, if you want to go the whole 'Don't remake the entire game' route, sure. 😋

Though gen speeds would also have to be increased, since it's nearly impossible for some Killers (via mechanics or player skill) to get 12 hooks in a normal match.

How would you handle Kobe attempts? Since I assume Struggling would be out (or Killers would just camp, like now); would Kobe attempts just fill their hook counter? Maybe 2 attempts = 1 counter?

Hadn't thought about yeeting oneself off a hook. So, dunno. Maybe it would lock them on the hook for a bit if they fail?

Also, the gen speed thing honestly just needs a whole new thing added to it, like finding parts or fuel or whatever. Like, turn the game INTO A GAME, instead of M1 simulator.

Also, as stated before, killers overall would need some buffs in order to make 12 hooks more viable. That, or it wouldn't be 12 hooks per say. Perhaps, 8 hooks, and after that, the killer Moris the Survivors out of the game. So Moris would come in at the end of every match to signify the killer is on the final kill streak.

To further help with gen issues, I would make it so that 3 gens are locked at the beginning of the match, and stay locked until a gen is done. Then, one of the gens that was locked unlocks. Every time a gen is done, one unlocks. This would reduce the amount of wandering the Killer has to do. With that in mind, killer buffs wouldn't need to be as severe.

At this point, it's becoming a new game, but it already sounds a lot more fun :P

  • @Power_Guy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2337221#Comment_2337221

Ok, fine. Since being hooked or removed from the game is so unacceptable to Survivors, here's my fix:

Remove the hooks. Then do the following:

Killers have to down Survivors 4 or 5 times, then get to mori them. These are the replacement to hook states. (Of course, numbers can be changed for balancing)

If the Killer manages to down everyone at the same time (An All Incap), then everyone's 'Down State' progresses by 1. (IE: If someone was Downed 2 times & is on the ground, but everyone is downed before they are saved, they have now been Downed 3 times).

Perhaps everyone will stay Downed for 10-15 seconds; long enough for a Killer to go kick a gen.

At this time, everyone will get back up to Healthy, since everyone was Downed. If a Killer is near a Downed Survivor as they are healed from an All Incap; they are stunned and blinded.

Survivors leave no scratch marks for 10 seconds after an All Incap. (This is to 'reset' the game state, and prevent a Killer from camping one Survivor)

Either that, or the Killer gets to mori one of the Survivors, and the others get back up to Healthy. But that may encourage more slugging.

BUT! Survivors can no longer crawl; they have to be found by their fellow Survivors. This prevents crawling out a gate, since being 'Downed' is the new Hook State. Also; the Killer cannot carry Survivors anymore.

There is no Bleedout Timer, to avoid new camping. The Killer is expected to Down people and move on until he can Mori.

Adjust Gen speeds for this new gameplay.

That's the only way I can think of to remove camping & slugging while still keeping the match going and not removing Killer or Survivor agency. Plus; now moris have a more common use as the End State instead of being fluff.

Personally, I'd just make it so that Survivors can switch hooks and not die until the set amount of hooks for the Killer is reached. To make up for this, all Killers would be buffed to make that gameplay more viable.

Perhaps, once the hook counter is filled, the Killer then Moris them out of the game. Hook swapping can have a cooldown on it as well, so the Survivor must sit on the hook for a bit to give the Killer time to adjust and figure out where all the Survivors are going. This would allow something like Make Your Choice to still be viable.

Map sizes would also need to be reduced, but realistically, that's never happening.

  • The RPD map crashes many last gen console players. Also, when it was first released, that map and Nemesis caused a massive amount of crashes for console, as well as overheating some consoles to the point of seriously damaging them.

Edit: On top of that, the RE chapter currently presents serious performance issues for last gen console players as well. Many of these issues are ongoing.

The fun in this game is being chased? Not when you have this many killers now who can down you from a distance or have some kind of ranged ability to make running from them not as effective as it should be. I thought Nemesis was pretty balanced but his powered up tentacle basically makes pallets useless against him. Also I wasn't being hostile. I was being honest. A lot of killers complain about this map when it hasn't even been out long enough to be fully memorized and studied as to how good of a map it really is. I don't care about rank, pips or sweaty game play so for me a map like this and being a RE fan is the best thing ever. People care way too much about rank in DBD rather than just having fun. This is literally a playable map in DBD of the most iconic place in the RE series and probably in all of survival horror video games. That alone is enough to be excited about this. I will literally be playing the RPD badge every chance I get when the offering goes live again.

Imagine using all those offerings, just so you don't get to play because everyone DCs.

    You're right.

    That IS an unpopular opinion.

Joking aside, he's not as bad as everyone makes him out to be, as in he's ARGUABLY not the worst killer in the game, but he's easily in the bottom five as far as the roster goes. In some scenarios, he IS the worst killer in the game. In others, he's just bad. Yes, it takes time to use him well, but even at his best, he's one of the weakest killers in the game. With the upcoming changes, his strengths are getting more highlighted, but his weaknesses are being made even worse, so don't expect any real change in his position towards the bottom.

They act like it happens every map because they want to convince the devs that it happens every match.

They hope to force the Killers to play in a set way that makes it easier for them to win:

If camping is punished or somehow removed; they will have easier unhooks, which means a better chance at escaping. Or get abuseable rewards (Look at the old 'fix' for camping that was removed when Survivors abused the hell out of it)

If Killer's cannot slug; then either they will have an easier time getting people up, or better chances at saves.

And if tunneling is somehow punished; then they can bodyblock Killers who have to avoid 'tunneling' them (Look at Borrowed Time).

All of it is, at its core, ways to tie the Killer's hands, take away player agency, and make the game easier for Survivors.

For all they scream about 'fair play' and 'toxic jerks'; I have NEVER seen a Survivor say 'If we are about to get a 4E, I let the Killer kill me'.

Yet Killers are 'toxic' 'sweats' and 'tryhards' for getting a 4K. Survivors just expect to be given the hatch because they want it. But Killers don't expect a free kill when the gates are open.

Survivers don't let the Killer hook them if they run the Killer for 3-4 gens. Yet Killers are expected to 'stop playing like an ass' if gens have not popped by the time someone is hooked.

It's double-standard hypocritical BS. Killers are expected to cater to Survivor's wants and expectations for a 'fair game' but it never goes the other way.

For all they scream about 'fair play' and 'toxic jerks'; I have NEVER seen a Survivor say 'If we are about to get a 4E, I let the Killer kill me'.

    I've done that :D

If I feel like I've bullied a Killer too hard and I'm not aching for a win, I'll throw myself into the jaws of death at the end as an apology. Unless they bring NoED. No remorse for NoED.

Oh for sure they exaggerate things that happen and hozw often they do. Of all the things that people claim happen to them

I've NEVER seen someone slug an entire team out and let them bleed out. And if that did happen..That's the teams fault for letting 4 people be in the position to get slugged at once. That takes a massive ######### up.

Sure tunneling and camping happens. But again....In the last 30 games(yes I've been keeping track) Camping and tunneling has happened once.

Stridor spirit happened 3 times. So cool out of 30 games. 28 it didnt happen and 25 of them were enjoyable.

Yet people act like it happens every match.

I've actually had that happen to me. Once. Only one time.

The player was extremely toxic, however, and taking out some frustration on us that they got from the previous trial. This was a while back with a Huntress that was running old Iri Hatchets and a bandolier to have a stock of them. They also never seemed to understand that they were venting on innocent players, and insisted on being as insulting as possible in the post-game lobby.

That was just one person, one time. I've never held that against other Killer players. However, other people seem to behave like that Huntress and just assign their frustrations with a few to the whole. People like to forget we're all individuals and strawman whatever they don't like for a convenient target.

  • I can't help but laugh at how goofy Nemesis looks.

Sadly, that's all I get out of him in a trial, because he certainly doesn't bring anything else to the table.

I agree that there should be some changes to the game design... I'm not a game designer so I'm not sure what they'd do. My thought is they should figure out what makes the game 'not fun' for people then adjust from there. It's tough because I am not a very competitive gamer. I'm not sure I'd be playing an asymmetrical game if I was, though.

Thanks, I wasn't trying to be too defensive, but yeah. I think it's valuable to remember that there are five people in each match looking for something. Hopefully, it's to have a good time with the entertainment we've chosen here. I think too often, people are choosing to make the other side suffer which is a weird thing to want to do.

I agree. Also, I am mostly a Survivor main with Killer brain. As such, I try to look at the game as a whole rather than from the perspective of a single side. From that perspective, it becomes much less about telling people how to play, and more about how the game should be designed to be played. That's where I find a lot of faults.

I also have a pretty big love for game mechanics. I love learning them, analyzing them, theory crafting them, etc. This game is a gold mine of "interesting ideas that DO NOT WORK WELL in their current form". There are things that would make this game better for everyone, truth be told. The issue seems to be a mix of devs not wanting to change much about the game and a rather divided community that is extremely adverse to changes to the game and a pension for shifting blame or creating toxic narratives.

I don't know how to end this post, so have a good one, hope you have some good games.

  • There are ways to tell, but it's still an educated guess at best. No real way to confirm. Generally, however, you can tell by how they time unhooks compared to what you are doing, how well the team as a whole moves around and against you, etc. Are you against a mess or a swarm? These are all hints, of course, not tell-tale signs.

  • @Sypherpathic said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2336390#Comment_2336390

Well, I did say "I THINK" so you know, I'm not saying they have to... Do you really have fun on those matches where you hook everyone and end the game as fast as possible?

No, I don't. I choose to spread the love and try not to force anyone out of the game early. However, that is a choice I make on my own. I don't think other people should feel like they have to make that choice.

Also, I wasn't really going after YOU, but more going after the rather popular sentiment that Killers should just change how they play rather than demand the devs fix the game design issues. ANY other successful game would rework the core gameplay loop to deal with these kinds of issues. DbD is one of the few games I've ever seen where the community defends bad game design and instead just demands that people play it differently.

Sorry if you felt attacked. I mean that sincerely. I just want people to demand changes to the game design, not to how people play the game. It's nothing against you personally.

  • Because it might've been too...

    Oppressive?

  • @Sypherpathic said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2336226#Comment_2336226

Sure. At some point, enough survivor players will decide something else is more fun and leave. Your queue times will go up and at some point, the game loses more viability.

Sure, it's baked in for killers to send survivors out of the match (I'm feeling literal today so calling it 'killing' doesn't really fit the game's story since the survivors just go back to the campfire in lore), but when players feel punished by other players, they will leave the game. How is that good for anyone?

I think killers should be looking at how to make the match fun for everyone playing. Sure, you should still 'do what you're there for', but for myself, I will sometimes avoid death-hooking someone and look elsewhere and similar. To me, if you're playing just to 1-2-3 kill survivors, you're missing the point of the game.

I think killers should be looking at how to make the match fun for everyone playing.

No. That's the devs jobs via game design. It's not the players job. If a killer WANTS to do that, that's fine. They can play how they want. That said, they can play how they want. They have no reason or responsibility to do the devs jobs for them and tailor the experience of the Survivors. That lets the devs off the hook for bad game design. It's shifting the blame. So no. Killers shouldn't have to do that. Optional? Sure. Should? No.

I didn't know face huggers weredeath lol, I guess I play to much mortal combat

Facehuggers insert a parasite inside of your body, which puts your life on a very short timer. Also, if you need the absolute visual, it's putting its wang deeply down your throat and shooting a hot load of "you're going to die".

Within you, that parasite starts eating your insides, targeting organs that are not essential for short term living. It grows into a very angry snake called a Chestburster, which does exactly what the name implies. This process can take anywhere from days to minutes, depending on what the running time of the movie demands.

    Observe:

    https://youtu.be/AdBu6VAESeI?t=70

    Fascinating.

From there, it goes around, doing GOD KNOWS WHAT until it dings and hits level 3. Level 3, however, is its level cap, and you have a full sized Xenomorph on your hands. The Xenomorph takes on characteristics of the host it earlier ripped out of, though these characteristics can be very loose. In general you can expect Wall Climbing, Acid Blood, Poison Barbed and Prehensile Tail, Mouth in a Mouth, Exceptional Strength, Exceptional Speed, Exceptional Agility, and very deadly Lunges that add all those factors together to normally be enough to drop anything that isn't a dinosaur. While they are durable, however, they don't recover well from wounds, so they tend to be ambush predators.

  • Guess it's finally time to just ban anyone that plays Killer. GG Survivors, you win.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNjWpZmxDgg

Or, you know, stop blaming players for problematic game design and start demanding the devs fix their core gameplay loop. Can't do that, though, it just wouldn't be the same.

  • @IlliterateGenocide said:

I guess your right, but I think even if it's not perfect I'd love if they gave there best and made a unique killer than could climb on walls and spit acid/attach face huggers

Thing is, I don't think ANY of those attributes would make it into the game. The physics in DbD are wonky if you aren't standing on flat ground. A lot of assets simply aren't designed to handle movement on them, so wall climbing is likely out. Look at how bad lunging behaves on slopes and stairs. This game can't deal with advanced physics well. Face Huggers are a death sentence, and would require putting in an entire Xenomorph life cycle into the game, which would also kill one of the Survivors instantly when the Chest Burster emerges. Acid spit is doable, but it would basically just be Tricksters knives with an arc that require less hits to injure.

At most, and I'm being VERY generous, you would get a 115% Killer that can lunge and arc projectiles that take 2-3 hits to injure. Probably nothing else. A mix of Demo and Huntress with a Laceration meter to represent an alien that is supposed to be a drawers-dumping monster to go up against.

Idk, I don't think I would enjoy the killers if they were 100 on the mark, I like that they makes changes and give them powers that are unique to dbd , and it fits into the cannon or the entity twisting powers and stuff

You might like that, but fans of specific characters might not. I'm a long time fan of the Aliens franchise and Xenomorphs, and I would personally prefer to see them in ALL of their glory when adapted to pretty much anything. Imagine a game shoe-horning One Punch Man into a game where he can't defeat his opponents with just one punch. It would completely defy the point of the character. For me, DbD would do the same thing to Xenomorphs.

  • Not an RE fan at all, but that boulder scene pushes Chris well into the superhuman realm. Pretty hard to treat him like a dude that is dealing with overwhelming odds when he can literally move around the weight of several stacked cars by punching it.

  • Well, I don't much care for my family, so the thought of them being sacrificed for the eternal joy wrought by their agony doesn't bother me.

    So Nea I guess.

  • Personally, I would rather DbD didn't touch Xenomorphs. The amount of characteristics of the creature they'd have to throw out would render it almost pointless for a fan. It would be a model of a Xenomorph doing non-Xenomorph things. This game simply isn't designed to make an Alien function the way they do in the comics, books, and movies. I feel it's better left to games specifically designed around Aliens doing Alien things, and not Hook-Gen-Gate game.

Terminator, on the other hand, I could see much more easily in DbD.

I can't really do anything in a chase without lag it's literally impossible when will this be fixed?

It's DbD. You already know the answer to that question.

    :(

  • I keep it in my loadout if I decide that ghosting a gen before the Killer gets there is the play. Sometimes I want to draw attention and run them, sometimes I want to be a ninja. SC helps with the ninja bit.
