Why was it canceled? We can't do anything to cancel grabs that I know of. This sounds like entitlement.

If you are unhooking another Survivor with the Killer right behind you, you can instead just tap the action key which will activate a grab instead of a hit. The grab gets cancelled, however, because you did not keep unhooking, which locks the Killer in place for a bit. This can be done in any circumstance where a Survivor can stop performing an action that can result in a grab.

This was an issue because the Killer would be locked in the grab interaction for a bit while the Survivor was not, allowing them to commit an action without penalty in front of the Killer.

At most levels of play, this happens accidentally and not intentionally, but a few players DO try and get this to work in their favor. It's risky, but if it pays off, it pays off well.

  • Strongest insofar as performance is Pyramid Head. Given the answers in this thread thus far, that seems to be a pretty solid entry.

As for design, it's a bit harder to say. Best designed may go to Myers or maybe Ghostface. Sure, GF doesn't always work as intended, but the concept behind it is very fitting for the character. Myers makes the system simply work better, though, and his kit allows him to adopt multiple playstyles which is something we don't see with many other licensed Killers.

  • So, when a teaser for a licensed Killer is hockey mask on the ground at Camp Crystal Lake with a machete under it, and the filename for the teaser is "Jason_Teaser":

"Well, the hockey mask is a mask, kind of like the animal costumes..."

"A camp is where kids go, and FNAF takes place in a place for children..."

"Machetes can be dangerous, and FNAF is dangerous..."

Sounds like you lack creativity yourself. Chances are they'll rip off an existing Killer's powers or concepts, but there's a lot of room for imagination with Pinhead's unique abilities...

    Yes, but also no.

I think the point they are making is that the gameplay of DbD runs a bit counter to the general methods Cenobites use. Cenobites GENERALLY do not chase. They can literally appear next to you at a whim and of their own choice. They rarely attack with their hands directly. The only time Pinhead was seen chasing and attacking with his hands was in the third movie, where he was de-powered on account of not being directly connected to Leviathan anymore. Even then, he primarily used alternate methods of hurting people, chains and hooks.

You are absolutely correct in that they will likely just recycle mechanics in order to make Pinhead, however. I agree 100% there. I wouldn't be surprised if we got the whip that Nemesis uses, but as a chain instead, that stacks Tricksters Laceration to he must hit multiple times for an Injure, and Freddys teleport. The new special animations will likely just be him using the chains to whip pallets and to pull Survivors up from the ground instead of bending over.

  • I'm sort of wondering if they will user Chatterer instead of Pinhead. While it might disappoint some fans, it would be a better fit. Chatterer is the strong man of the group. He's also a child that was taken into the labyrinth and turned into a Cenobite. As such, he does not have the wealth of intelligence that Pinhead, the female Cenobite, or even Butterball. He's mentally the weakest of them, but he physically the most active, and is the most willing to use his hands to do something.

More than likely, it will be Pinhead. He's just too iconic not to. However, I honestly feel that Chatterer would be a better fit for the overall gameplay of the game. Also, if it IS Pinhead, having the female Cenobite as an alternate skin would be pretty great. She is much more aggressive than Pinhead is, but otherwise displays the same intelligence and capability as him. Canonically, she is nearly equal to him in terms of capabilities.

  • So, as a fan of Hellraiser, I have many ideas.

As someone that has played DBD, however, I threw all those ideas out and went for the most basic things I could:

Chains of Bad Stuff (probably scary or edgy sounding)

M2 to make a Survivor you are aimed at stand still for 1.5-2.5 seconds. They can break out of this. If you hit them, they take an injury and have Deep Wound. If they get out, they can only get Injured and cannot be put into the Dying state. This makes Pinhead have to aim and hit them to stop them in place, then make his way to them and secure a hit.

    Lament Configuration

Press CTRL (Secondary Killer Ability Button) to put a Lament Configuration down. Anyone that gets within the radius of it will be chained. This will notify Pinhead and lock the Survivor within its radius. The Survivor can run over and attempt to solve the cube, with the same success rates as Beartraps. Nailface will have between one and three of these (CANONICALLY SPEAKING, there is more than one Lament Configuration. Three are seen in the second movie. In the comics, there are MANY more of multiple designs). The Lament Configuration plays the iconic music box theme, which lets Survivors know they are getting close to it. Crouch walking does not set it off, and can allow a Survivor to disarm it without setting it off. Pinhead will either need to collect his boxes in order to reload, or have the reload function that Clown has, though using the second option would remove all Lament Configurations currently in play.

  • It would be an insanely nerfed version of the movie/comic/book creature that basically plays like Demo.

It MIGHT have acid spit as a ranged attack, even though that's a bit of a rarely seen ability.

It would not have wall crawling. It would not have vents to move through. It would not eat faces, save for a Mori. It would likely not have a tail attack. It would not have acid blood.

I'm not at all a fan of FnaF, but I'm not at all thrilled about Pinhead either. I think he has an awful, tacky design, the movies were awful, and the series as a whole just seems like a really tacky gore fetish. It's like if an edgy 12 yo decided to rip off Silent Hill.

I'd 100% prefer Candyman, same era, the movie has dated just as much, but the concept at least had some merit, and the movie was at least good for it's time.

Like there are some killer icons that people may not actively 'want' in the game, like Candyman or Pennywise, but if there are two that people specifically do NOT want, they are FnaF and Hellraiser. That's probably where the toxicity comes from.

I have yet to see someone complaining about including hellraiser.

but people get angry at the inclusion of every character, so that's just normal

I've seen a few complaints about Hellraiser being added. People are already calling him a reskinned Deathslinger despite there being nothing about him yet. It's weird, and as a Hellraiser fan, it feels like my favorite horror franchise is being attacked for no reason. HR fans don't constantly make threads or wild demands, and are generally petty quiet about their fandom.

That said, you aren't wrong on that second part. I complain about Nemesis, but I think he needs to be fixed and made better. I'm not upset that he isn't Springtrap.

  • The design was, and still is, pretty bad. People weren't complaining about the inclusion of the characters. Also, the chapter broke consoles. Again, that wasn't because people didn't like the characters, it's because the game was at fault.

With Hellraiser, people are complaining about the inclusion of it. That's a different thing entirely.

yes, it is like freddy. what would that be like in dbd? doctor's madness system that has the effects of old freddy dream world with slower gens? Its going to be an interesting chapter with survivors getting boon totems. I wonder who the survivor is from Hellraiser?

None, most likely. They have said it's going to be more of a paragraph than a chapter. Expect slim content. So no map, no survivor.

I remember him having some strange magic to read peoples minds and him being immortal. I am pretty curious for what his perks are going to be as the perks often relate to the character lore in some odd way. I am hoping we get one really good killer perk that feels rewarding to use and impactful to gameplay, something to the level of Myer's save the best for last perk. a lot of licensed chapters, the perks are almost completely forgotten about. Like nobody uses any of demo's perks or Freddy fire up or ph/nemesis perks. I feel like licensed chapter perks should feel memorable in some way.

He can read minds, yes. Not control them, though. It's more that he knows all of your fears and trauma. He can use this to mentally wear you down and break you. The movies don't use that much, though, and you only see it in extended lore.

Coming from someone who was really hoping for Fnaf this chapter, I have to disagree and tell you that it's pretty much confirmed to be Hellraiser at this point.

    Pretty sure they were trolling.

Unless, pinheads power will be to turn into springtrap.

  • I really don't want ai or Twins mechanics again.

Combined with what others have said regarding him/them never running, I can imagine them summoning hooks to do the dirty work for them. From the little content I have seen thus far, hooks coming out of nowhere seems to be part of their MO.

    Yes.

A big part of cenobites is that they rarely get their hands dirty. They are a bit more regal. So they control hooks and chains to do such things for them.

  • Every new chapter is fnaf.

    Every.

    New.

    Chapter.

All chapters Fnaf. All killers are fnaf. You are fnaf. I am fnaf.

    This world is fnaf.

    Fnaf.

    Fnaf.

    Fnf.

    Fffff.

I think some people are getting a bit tired of this everytime a new chapter comes up.

  • Well, if you go by the movies...

Chains. Hooks. Chains and hooks. Pinhead carries a knife around his belt that he uses in a threatening manner in the second film, which could be his standard attack weapon. That said, in guessing it will just be a hook.

Also, in the films, he can summon columns covered in flesh and blades. In theory, he could summon his own hooks.

While he can teleport in the movies, he's otherwise slow, and never more than walks. He'll likely be a 110 speed.

We don't talk about CDHead. 😁

    Or Pistonhead.

  • Hi, I'm a stupidly big fan of Hellraiser despite how bad the franchise got. I also basically left dbd and this commotion had summoned me back.

To start with, Hellraiser is about people that play with a music box puzzle called the Lament Configuration that opens up a gateway to something akin to hell. Once opened, the cenobites, which are beings of that hell, show up to drag the victim with them to an eternity of torture. To them, this is a sort of blessing, as you get to experience the most radical sensations they can possibly impart on a living being. To most people dealing with it, it's like a monkeys paw of sorts. Lust for power, sensation, knowledge, etc, lead to a prize, but the prize is a trap door to suffering.

Once summoned, cenobites seemingly have overwhelming power, but the series never focuses too much on that. The third movie shows them shrugging of guns like its nothing, while the second movie has one killed by a knife. Calling it inconsistent is entirely fair. That said, they can teleport around, change reality, and summon bladed chains and structures on a whim. They are also intelligent. They can converse with you, toy with you, and even let you run freely away from them if they feel it suits them. The first three movies, which all have the best claim to canon, even show the victims making life or death deals with them. That said, they always intend to take the victim with them.

Later in the franchise, the meaning is mostly lost, and the cenobites mostly seem to show up like some kind of final judgment for the Damned. This is because the movies were not intended to be Hellraiser movies and were modified in order to retain the rights.

Within hell itself, the cenobites are basically a religious order of suffering. They serve a deity called leviathan. Leviathan resides in the center of the maze that is their realm. They have their own castes, ranks, political structures, etc. There is more, but that should be enough to start with.

The first movie is basically required viewing to get them, though the second movie is honestly my favorite. The third is kinda bad, but has a bit more lore and is still canon. Everything after that is pretty rough and honestly bad. Bloodlines is still technically lore, but also completely contradicts the first three movies. I see it more like a bad fan fic.

  • I do my best.

    Sometimes.

    Not often.

I don't really do my best.

  • While there are plenty of Killer + Perk combos that work well, they aren't all created equal.

Thanataphobia works on Barflady and Stabkids, as it utilizes their ability to remain relevant, but the actual amount of time Thana adds to gen repair isn't actually a big deal. Even with Thana, a good team will know that it's still better to just bang out gens and disregard healing.

Blight + Tinkerer, on the other hand, gives rapid and strong results that are nearly impossible to ignore. Combined with Ruin, that makes the whole combo much stronger than other such combos with different Killers and Perks.

  • Even if a good competitor came out, I don't think the DbD playerbase would give it the time of day. The brand loyalty is shooting out of every orifice. Gushing out of every hole. Bursting at the seams.

  • "Something doesn't seem to work the way I think it should, so it must be that the entire player base of the opposing side is using exploits."

  • @nursewannabe said:

Most Freddy players were bad killers that just relied on his forever build. They just switched to other easy but easily rewarded killers (against randos) like Bubba and Wraith

Freddy players that didn't use slowdown add-ons basically felt no difference in his gameplay. Reminder that the walking slowdown while placing snares only happens when the snare is fully charged and the player is holding it, which basically happens never, so that was a non-nerf

Like most "nerfs", what BHVR did was just a placebo and the nerf is just in the reduced number of people playing that killer

Pretty much this. Freddy has NEVER been OP, but he was boring and had builds that gave him easy wins because messing up wouldn't hurt too bad if gens were taking forever to complete. Freddy with gens taking forever. Some kind of... Forever... Freddy.

Ya, the nerf to Forever Freddy didn't hurt his potential for the most part, but got rid of one of his most mindlessly simple builds to run. He still has all the other fix-ins that make him a jack of all trades, master of none, and can still combine them to eventually get what he wants, which tends to be a tickle session. With knives. His playstyle can still feel boring for Survivors: WAIT FOR DREAM TIMER TO GIVE FREE BUFFS, chase Survivor, snare loops, get a hit in, eventually down them, hook, repeat. Everyone I know that used to play Freddy but dropped him only periodically play Killer and always go for an easy Killer to win with. They dropped him on account of losing Forever Freddy as they saw it as him losing his easiest build to play.

Agreed with you on everything but DS, becuase I'm sick of Sabo Squads and wannabe bullies running around fresh off the hook, often at full health, trying to go for saves. It doesn't feel good being completely unable to punish that.

It's not what it used to be, but it still has a way to go before it stops protecting agro survivors and starts protecting against hardcore tunneling.

Fair nuff. I haven't seen DS since it got nerfed, so I can't speak to that personally, but I can totally see how that's a thing.

Agreed. I have no issue with changes that make sense and allow the perk to still function and be useful but allow room for other lesser used perks to shine through.

That being said, weaker and useless perks desperately need addressing imo, before gutting any perks right now. I genuinely don't think there are any perks on either side right now that are 100% busted and overly oppressive.

I will agree that trying to track a survivor with Iron Will is difficult but you can still follow blood (Unless Lucky Break is in play) but it's not impossible.

Well, Iron Will is supposed to make the Survivors grunts of pain quieter. This would not outright remove the sound that Survivor makes, rather remove the loudest sound they make while injured that isn't a scream. The issue seems to be that Iron Will is inconsistent, with reports of it removing breathing and even foot steps.

Those last two are VERY important when trying to track someone on the other side of an obstacle. BHVR needs to fix these bugs, and then determine if Iron Will is silencing more than it is supposed to. If it is, that needs to be fixed. If it's just a result of sounds being generally buggy, then those bugs need to be sorted out.

  • @ukenicky said:

Yikes I'm shocked people don't think either side is allowed to have a powerful perk but okay.

I wouldn't mind Iron Will receiving a very minor nerf somehow but all you people asking it to be nerfed into the ground scare me lol

Y'all just want every decent Survivor perk to be bad?

I tend to advocate for Killers, and I agree with you here. NO PERK SHOULD BE NERFED INTO THE GROUND. Rebalanced to be strong but healthy, yes. Nerfed into Kingdom Come? No. More useless perks are not what this game needs.

To be fair, I think a lot of people have a sort of PTSD from things in this game. Legion still gets a ton of hate for gameplay he can't even do anymore. Undying is nowhere near as bad as it once was, and it is still heavily maligned. DS cannot be be abused in a capacity REMOTELY approaching what it used to, but people still act like it's a nasty perk. It's on both sides, and it's a touch silly, but understandable.

  • I think the first order of business is that sounds in the game need to be fixed before we can even determine is Iron Will is causing problem, or just bad sound scripting. If breathing works, but the normal sound bugs are messing it up when Iron Will is in play, then ya, fix that. If Iron Will is hard-coded to remove breathing, that needs to be changed.

It is supposed to remove grunts of pain, not all the noise a Survivor makes.

Also, for anyone that says that using sound to find a target is a sign of being a bad player... no. The game has those sounds for a reason. You can hear how close someone is and where they are for a reason. They are intended to be an extra tracking resource in the event that visual tracking is not an option. If you're trying to cut someone off that is running behind a wall, you can hear where their breathing is going. You can't see their scratches, or their blood, or crows flying off. You see a wall. That breathing is THE mechanic you use to track their movement. Imagine not hearing a Killers stomping around, hissing, grumbling. You'd get fussy that despite the TR and Red Stain, you can't hear precisely where the Killer is behind an obstacle. The same thing works the other way around.

I'm actually pretty miffed that anyone would suggest that it's okay for Killers to be deaf to Survivor noises while they get to enjoy the benefits of hearing Killer noises. That is an insanely one-sided argument to make.

  • Before I state my list, I am generally of the opinion that nothing should be outright deleted, rather reworked into something that works for the game in a healthy way. However, the point of the thread is not that, so without further delay...

    Map: RPD

It's simply miserable for both sides. It's also the largest map in the game. A single floor is already the diameter of Red Forest, which was previously the largest map in the game, and it has a second floor. That is just nuts. Players have been stating for a long time that smaller maps are healthier for the game, and this is what we got. The complete opposite. Also, it's an indoor map, so it automatically invalidates a ludicrous amount of Killer powers and game mechanics simply because you can't see more than 20 feet in front of you. Into the trash it goes.

    Chapter: Of Flesh and Mud

I do not mind Ace, but this chapter has to go. I don't want to see Ruin go, though maybe if it did, the devs would address the fact that the game is balanced around the Killer bringing slowdown. KINDA means that slowdown should be built in and slowdown methods should be modified to work with the changes. Instead, we get perks to pick and choose what aspects of the game we want to fix. Anyways, the real reason for this is simple: Hag. Plainly stated, she's incredibly strong, but her power is incredibly simple. This makes it a bit hard to rebalance her to where she's strong but feels more fair to play against. Any changes in either direction either make her too strong or too weak. I'm sure it CAN be done, but I can see basically all other Chapters being easier to figure out than her.

    Perk: NoED

I DO think this can be reworked into something better. However, if deletion was required, this would be the top of my list. It honestly feels like the devs giving a bad Killer a pat on the back, saying "you suck, here's a gun". It doesn't reward good players, it rewards bad players. I'm not going to argue that it has counterplay, because it absolutely does. I know it does. I personally don't have a big problem with it when I play. However, I've seen what it can do to a trash Killer that relies on it at the end game to make a play and look like they are worth a damn. Other games, other PARTY games, have similar mechanics that are equally hated, and for good reason.

    Mechanic: Keys

I honestly believe they can be reworked to be better, but similar to NoED, this would be the top of my list. When Moris were a means to end a game early, I hated them. I don't think either side should be robbed of their chance to make late game plays. Moris did that, keys still do that. The Killer puts in the work to have a mid to late game advantage just for the game to suddenly end because of a garbage free-win mechanic. Hatch is fine, I totally get hatch. Keys are not fine.

  • I generally don't pay attention to TTV names, but if I'm playing Killer and the choice is tossing them or the random Bill on a hook, Bill's getting a pass. I want that TTV audience of 7 to see their favorite underrated streamer spending some quality footage on a hook.

I have gone against some decently nice ones, though, so it's not all bad. Others were ######### that use Twitch as a means to just insult people with an audience that eggs them on.

I'm on an odd position with TTVs, though, because it was a Twitch streamer that caused me to get back into the game. Otz and JottSpund both got me into playing the game again when Pyramid Head came out. Before that, I hadn't touched it since the release of Hag.

  • People were reporting yesterday that they were still getting crashes on console. While it happens less, it's still an issue that would punish players that are having issues with last gen consoles. Until they can come out with a patch that definitively puts console out of risk of crashing and then punishing players for a dev issue, the DC penalties need to stay off.

I have no idea what shaders is but it could very well be a combination of the two

"Beyond simple lighting models, more complex uses of shaders include: altering the hue, saturation, brightness (HSL/HSV) or contrast of an image; producing blur, light bloom, volumetric lighting, normal mapping (for depth effects), bokeh, cel shading, posterization, bump mapping, distortion, chroma keying (for so-called "bluescreen/greenscreen" effects), edge and motion detection, as well as psychedelic effects".

They are what create the lighting, ambiance, and special effects. Particles use shaders as well. DbD uses a LOT of shaders, which is why people can rip the assets, throw them in a home-made demo, and it doesn't look the same. Shaders can be rough on older or weaker hardware.

  • Bill is old.

    Bill players act senile.

    Checks out.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

I think it's not animation itself that is causing performance issues but rather the process of how status effects are applied on the survivor

I think it's all connected to the use of shaders. Particles use shaders, the entire map uses shaders, the UI uses shaders. I seriously think one of the big issues is that DbD goes overboard on shader use, which are notorious for tearing up weaker GPUs. This would also explain why Freddys Dream World comes with a performance dip for weaker machines.

DS is often unavailable when you NEED it because you were tunneled but not picked up until after the timer runs out. It's so easy to circumvent; that is probably why people try to use it. I'm not suggesting it last in perpetuity but the timer is limited despite all of the conditions needed to trigger it.

I think that's an absolutely fair criticism. In it's current form, I would not mind seeing the timer for DS buffed. In fact, before the nerf, when people argued about it having the conditions it has now, I was someone that actually DID say it could run forever until they did a gen, healed, etc. I still wouldn't mind that.

DS certainly needed the nerf it got, but I would not mind a buff to make it a little stronger so long as it keeps its deactivation conditions.
