  • Did I miss something?

The update to Legion just looked like QoL with no change to gameplay or counter play. Did people just forget how to counter Legion, or was the change that significant?

  • Play Nea, she's both. At the same time. In one. By herself. Together. Other words for duality.

  • I personally like the way Legion plays, though I don't see these changes as a big deal. They are the QoL changes that have been asked about for a while. While that's a good thing, it's simply going to make Legions normal game plan a bit stronger, but doesn't really address Legions plethora of weaknesses.

The insta down doesn't matter that much, and only shortens the time Legion spends focusing the last person they hit with FF. It also, from what I understand, doesn't work when there is less than 4 survivors, so it's another scenario where Legions power only really works at the beginning of the trial. On top of this, it is going to be a set way Legion gets a down, and survivors are going to hate how predictable and inevitable it is.

As silly as it sounds, the best way to avoid the insta down is to run to Legion when they pop FF so you aren't the last person they hit.

The addon reworks are honestly good.

Going back to the actual topic, I don't want a Legion rework. I just want their power to be iterated on the be more interactive and flexible, with some bite. It also needs to be constitution viable throughout the entire trial. The changes don't really address that.

  • So, if Legion gets a down in the fifth hit, what happens when there's less than 4 survivors? Does FF only have full power against 4 players?

RPD and The Game are my least favorite. Springwood sucks too. I see a lot of people say they hate the Swamp, but I never understood why. I’ve never had trouble with that map.

The swamp has a fat-shaming spot, but is otherwise fine for me.

That said, some of the hills don't work for certain Killers, because their powers weren't designed to work on anything that isn't flat.

I don't buy this logic anymore, survivors clearly don't mind playing gen simulator.

Changing the core gameplay loop would still be a better solution than a small bandaid fix.

DbD is covered in bandaid fixes. It's time to rip them off, look at the wound, and fix it right.

  • Well, slowing down gens is simply not a good answer. That makes even more of the Survivor gameplay just "sit in one spot and hold M1". The issue stems more from the core gameplay loop than any one little adjustment could fix. The very core game would need to be changed in order to make things better.

People keep saying this build. But reality is that's not the strongest blight build 🤣🤣🤣. They just run in to mediocre blights that crutch on it

It's not that the Basic Blight build is the strongest. It's not. Rather than catering to the skill ceiling, the Basic Blight build instead lowers the skill floor, so that players that don't want to git gud at him can use him more affectively. It's not about being strong, it's about being easier.

Players that take the time to learn Blight will generally stop using the Basic Blight build and focus on builds that make him stronger at the high end. Players that don't want to learn Blight as much but want a consistent performance from him will bolster his low end with the same ol' build.

  • Yup, genrush sucks too. I'm completely guilty of doing it, though.

  • So, I don't know if it matters or something, but everyone is saying to run certain Killers or builds, but that seems counter-intuitive if you're trying to adept Freddy.

  • I feel like I should make a quitting thread now too.

I uninstalled several weeks ago, though, so it'd be a bit late.

  • I used to use Balanced Landing as a way to get a Sprint Burst with an activation I could control. My guess is something similar.

To be honest, me either but loved the outcome that came out from it.

Good times in middle school playing the Slender games and the fan games while reading some Creepypasta.

What's funnier is he was an entry for a "Paranormal" Photoshop contest

I was in SomethingAwful when that happened, and the entire craze around it has always felt like I was watching everyone blow up over joke fanart some dude made.

Also, just saying, Slenderman had a (bad) movie, so I'm not entirely sure, but licensing might be required to add him to the game.

  • Killers understand how lame it is. They camp anyways.

    Checkmate, atheists.

  • I still don't get how so many people got wrapped up in a SomethingAwful photoshop.

  • I still wish they had made him more of a ranged strategy killer that could build Laceration on Survivors that didn't vanish until they changed Health States. Then, he could set up snowballs or big plays.

Than theyll make COH let you clease without corrupting a pool as a counter to plague

If this happened, I'd reinstall the game just to uninstall it again.

I'm probably going to get flames for this one, but in terms of scariness, it was the Trickster's release that was the best in my opinion. I mean think about it:

    • Ji-Woon let a bunch of innocent people burn while they were screaming his name and he enjoyed it, he enjoyed the attention.
    • He would sneak into people's houses and kidnap them, torture them to make them scream and used those screams to make music (and if you listen closely, his chase music sounds like distorted screams).
    • He's one of the most human killers in the game which makes it scarier.
    • He laughs and giggles when chasing and lacerating the survivors, at one point he even hums the ring around the rosey nursey rhyme randomly during the trials.
    • A cool little detail is when someone DC's, he laughs.

While I'm definding 'success' differently compared to the other answers, the detail to Trickster was amazing at making me feel scared while playing Dead by Daylight again.

The amount of detail that went into Trickster and giving him personality is probably some of the best DbD has seen. He feels more like a person with his own mind than the Survivors do.

  • NP.

Also, ya, all you can do is report them. Honestly don't think it does anything, but that's the only tool BHVR has given for that. Sorry you had to deal with that.

As a mini-rant, I HATE the stupid idea that people whine about a legit character in a game being played. Especially in a "casual" environment. Like, the character is in the game. People are going to play the character. Get the f-ck over it, you know?

  • Pretty sure you aren't supposed to show the names of the players in these kinds of pics. Might want to edit them out.

  • I left DbD before learning much of anything about it, and came back when Pyramid Head was announced. He was the first Killer I tried to main.

    I hated it.

I then looked through the Killer roster and, based on visuals, picked up Legion. That was MUCH smoother, and put me in the right mindset to learn the game properly. As such, I always recommend Legion as a Killer for people learning the game. Legion requires the player to learn the fundamentals, and their power doesn't really get in the way of this. Also, Legions power is great for learning the fundamentals AND how you use Killer powers to work around the basic mechanics of the game. When using Legions power, you also get a very clear idea of how Survivors will often react when actively avoiding you at a distance, which is something you can keep in mind with all Killers. Legions weaknesses are also kind of unique in that they are actually the same weaknesses that all Killers have, but amplified dramatically. This lets a learning Killer REALLY see these issues and forces them to come head-to-head with them, making them learn to deal with them as such. Also, Discordance is a pretty solid Intel perk that works well on many other Killers, so learning to use it is a big bonus.

Pyramid Head doesn't really have this as well, because his power specifically makes Survivors act in ways that are very different than how they would with any other Killer. Similar to Nurse, Survivors adopt strategies that are specific to that Killer, which can lead to assumptions of Survivor strategies that simply aren't true. Pyramid Heads perks are iffy at best, often situational, and even more often outright kinda useless.

At the end of the day, it's up to the player if they want to learn on Pyramid Head. My personal suggestion is not to, but it's not against the law to do so. More power to you and whoever you pick.

  • I already uninstalled DbD and am waiting for the beta to drop. While I don't think VHS will be perfect by any means, I'm hoping it will be fun. I just don't have fun with DbD anymore.

  • "A whip is a ranged weapon."

    Eh? Ehhhhh? Eeeeeehhhhhhhhhh?

I mean, it's a melee with some notable reach, but I wouldn't call it a ranged weapon. That's like saying a blunderbuss is a melee weapon.

  • @TheMadCat said:

DS is fine how it is now. If you have time to heal yourself or someone else, you're not tunneled.

Legion will down people while having a speed boost? No. People will DC as soon as they see it's Legion.

They already DC against Legion, so no changes there.

  • I don't think any of these games will outright kill DbD. That's like saying Siege would kill CSGO. Instead, they will compete and give an alternative with a different set of pros and cons. I figure VHS will basically be like that. The Siege to DbDs CSGO status in the genre.

  • Escape is the goal of the Survivor. It is the sole metric that matters. If you were good, you'd escape.

    -The devs, probably

  • To some people, winning is fun. Not saying they are right or wrong, just saying that they might find going completely overboard to an instant victory as entertaining.

  • VHS has potential. People complain about the Teens being able to gang up on the Monster, but they have to build up to do that. It's not something they can always do. Imagine having to do a 40 second gen just to drop a pallet. That's not "ganging up". It's a different gamestyle with its own merits. That said, I'll take it over camping and tunneling. We'll see how well it does.

  • Legion would be able to down Survivors way too fast with that. Every use of his power would be a guaranteed down. He'd become too strong in the 1v1, while still mostly lacking in the 1v4. It would essentially turn him into Melee Trickster.

  • I really wanted him to become a mix of a strategy Killer and ranged Killer. To do this, his Lacerations would only expire on a change in health state, allowing him to stack them over time and then do big plays. Instead, they double downed on him needing to tunnel his target. He had potential, and we've seen none of it.

  • Still waiting for the Sluzzy interview.

  • Add skeletons and black cats and jack-o-lanterns and witches. 2spoop4me.

  • Nerf Legions breathing.

  • When the planets align, Legions ability is to hand out ass-spankings like a champ. Just "good game" with a knife and move onto the next Survivor. At the very beginning of a trial, you can have all Survivors wounded, and one slapped on a hook before the first gen even hits 10% completion. This is when the planets align, however.

Normally, Legions ability is VERY situational, and requires the player to essentially know where everyone is, and recognize when they are close enough to hand out drive-by-knifings. Furthermore, more than most other Killers, Survivors will do their best to keep distance from Legion so as not to hand them the use of their power, and will scatter from each other constantly to avoid making Legions power useful. This is the single hardest part of playing Legion: Everyone knows their weakness.

Now, against Survivors that trip up and in the right hands, Legion is slightly stronger than most will say. This DOES NOT make Legion secretly good, just a bit better. Legion comes with MANY techniques that are not listed on the label. Similar to using a knife and a garden hose to fix a car, it's possible to get extra use out of Legion that wasn't intended by design. Also like using a knife and a garden hose to fix a car, these are sub-optimal methods of accomplishing a goal that work much better on Killers designed for them. As a quick example, Legions power is mostly useless against a single target, save for the quick injury. However, if you don't see another target after hitting the first, you don't JUST follow the person you hit. You watch where they are going and cut them off. Body block the door or window they were going to use. Maybe use them to drop a pallet on your head to bypass Legions fatigue. Now, you just squeezed a bit of value out of Legions power that isn't really advertised.

There's a lot that goes into playing Legion well, and even if you do everything you can, it's mostly going to come down to utilizing the fundamentals of playing ANY Killer well while working around a kit that doesn't give you much, but can be twisted a bit to make a few things work.

Yeah sure. You know you can ran faster with more frames do you?

This isn't Dark Souls. No function or mechanic of the gameplay is tied to FPS. FPS merely makes the game run smoother.

  • Guess I should be banned for making the game run at 144 fps.

Hello fellow survivors, please stop relying on your perks and actually learn to play. Bringing up DS DH BT and coms every game won't make u any better, so stop abusing it.

Yes, it makes the game more challenging, but who wants easy games every time? And you DON'T have to win every match you play! Sometimes, I have more fun in the matches that I lose because the killers looped me well and I actually had to try in order to escape.

    Did i miss something? 😂

People still abuse DS? I think I saw DS all of three times yesterday, and only saw it proc once when I had a group of Survivors near me and I didn't know which one had just come off of hook.

  • Sometimes it's not enough to dunk. Sometimes you want the opponent to know what your jock tastes like on the very back of their tongue.

  • Twinspirational.

I'm ending it now, you can't stop me dad.

  • I wouldn't mind if it showed all generators, but also color coded them to let you see which ones had the most progress. That way, you could race to finish a gen.

  • @AGM said:

Let's see if you follow my logic.

    Commodious Toolbox with both charge add-ons: 32 + 12 +8 = 52 charges

    Streetwise's 1.25 multiplier: 52 x 1.25 = 65 charges

Now we factor in new Built to Last's charge replenishment, plus our original charges: 65 + .99(65) + .66(65) + .33(65) = 193.7 total charges

193.7 charges divided by 1.5 charges per second gives about 129.13 seconds. In other words, it would take 129.13 seconds to use those 193.7 charges. (Which, for reference, is nearly 2.5 gens. 1 gen = 80 charges.)

    But wait! There's more!

If you add the 36 seconds spent replenishing your toolbox in a locker to the 129.13 seconds you get 165.13 seconds total invested in using and charging your toolbox. And, if you divide 193.7 by that total time investment, 193.7 divided by 165.13 gives you a final efficiency of 1.173 charges per second.

For reference, Resilience by itself has an efficiency of 1.09 charges per second on its own, and finishes a gen in 73.4 sec. This Built to Last build would complete a gen in 68.2 sec.

    In conclusion:

Streetwise with new Built to Last and a Commodious Toolbox with two charge add-ons can finish gens 7% faster than Resilience on its own without even needing to be injured.

Therefore, the ultimate gen rush build will probably be Streetwise with new Built to Last and a Commodious Toolbox with two charge add-ons, and either Prove Thyself, Fast Track, or Resilience as your final two perks.

If anyone noticed an error with my math, or have any other suggestions to make this build even faster, I'd love to hear it. Oh what evil have I unleashed upon this world...

Could double up with Resilience and Spine Chill. Don't know how much of a difference it would make, but faster is faster.

  • I once played Clown and was told to play a real killer.

Was once accused of gen rushing against an Iri head Huntress when only 2 gens got done.

  • So stop running the same perks against them so they don't have to run the same perks against you so you don't have to run the same perks against them so they don't have to run the same perks against you...

  • They are so hesitant to fix Legion they buffed a worthless addon to still be worthless.

I mean, I guess it means they looked at Legion for more than a second before saying "nope".

  • Be what I want you to be.

I want a pony, and a cookie, and a potty...

  • @R2k said:

Jokes aside it required 30 years experience and 10 years of actual testing to find out Legion is underperforming. So i assume they will make Legion good when i hit my late 80.

That's when they'll announce they are looking at Legion. The adjustments will come on the next pass. Your grandchildren may see it in their twilight years...

  • Interesting idea that needs to be tweaked for balance. I'm definitely not against new mechanics, and I totally get they won't always land on the first iteration. I just hope we aren't waiting too long to see them get tweaked.
