Wasn't sure on the perk tier to prestige ratio. Thanks for the correction.

    Sure thing.

It's 50 tiers per prestige but for some reason P1 starts at 70.

If your character is P0-50 and you did not spend any more BP on additional lvl 50 webs. Then it is in your best interest to P1-1 that character.

Why? Because every prestige level gives +2 with the catch-up. Placing that character at P3-1 after the update. If you leave them at P0-50 with 59 perk tiers, you will be P1 or barely P2 after.

Why should you not P1? Do not P1-1 if you have all perks. If you have all perks then after the update you will be P3 or higher anyways. Plus you get to keep all your offerings and addons.

Agreed with everything you said except this: P0 lv50 with 59 perk tiers before the update will still be P0 lv50 after the update. You need at least 70 tiers for P1.

For what it's worth, here's my opinion:

Characters currently at P0 with less than 70 perk tiers and few valuable items in their inventory (including addons and offerings) should be prestiged to P1 before the update.

Characters currently at P0 with over 70 perk tiers or who have items you don't want to lose should just try to acquire as many additional perk tiers as possible.

Characters that have already prestiged at least once should not be prestiged again until after the update unless you really want the red background for that character.

Of course it's going to vary from player to player based on their goals and priorities.

I am Jonathan Lightborn user (no relation).

I hate being blinded at pallets and during pickups so much I will essentially play every game with only 3 perks because Lightborn is permanently equipped on every killer.

  • Perks previously bought from the shrine will automatically be unlocked at tier 1 on every character (of the appropriate role, of course.) Tiers 2 and 3 can be unlocked in the bloodweb as normal.

As far as previously acquired teachables, I think I remember reading that they will also automatically appear at tier 1 on all characters but I need to see if I can find the post. Either way, if you got a perk as a teachable it will still appear in bloodwebs.

    Found it:

    peanits-teachables.png

  • Here is the perk tier to prestige conversion according to the PTB.

    70 to 119 = P1

    120 to 169 = P2

    170 to 219 = P3

    220 to 269 = P4

    270 to 319 = P5

320+ = P6 (only survivors can have this many)

  • The red background will only be given to characters that are P3 before the patch goes live. There is no other way to get it.

It is still true that perk tiers will give you prestige levels (70 for P1, 120 for P2, 170 for P3, etc)

The cost to prestige has been lowered to 20,000.

Each pre-patch prestige level will essentially give you 3 levels after the patch goes into effect, so a P1 before the patch will be P3 after (P3 before will be P9 after).

There is no right way to do it. I am prestiging some characters now if they don't have items, add-ons, or offerings I care about, while other characters I'm just getting more perk tiers through level 50 bloodwebs without prestiging.

  • If you P1 before the update then they will be P3 after. This won't get you anything directly (except the bloody torso cosmetic when you P1) but it will put you that much closer to P5 through P9 where you would get the rest of the bloody cosmetics and the new perk charms.

I would say if you don't have any really great items (like event stuff you want to keep) or offerings (like cakes or BPS) then you should prestige now. On the other hand, if you don't care about bloody cosmetics or charms at all, then don't prestige until the update.

  • Your definition of cheating is missing a key component. Cheating isn't simply having an unfair advantage. It's gaining that unfair advantage by subverting rules or acting dishonestly.

I am not athletic in any way. If I play 1 on 1 basketball against a professional basketball player, my opponent decidedly has an unfair advantage but is in no way cheating.

If, however, we are playing in an official amateur 1 on 1 tournament where all players are expected to be amateurs and my opponent pretends to be an amateur despite being a professional, then that is cheating.

If the DbD rules stated "no comms of any kind" then I would agree with you, but since comms are not against the rules then they are by definition not cheating.

Okay so just to 100% make sure I got this understood, I'm just gonna make up a random example.

A prestige 3 Meg with 147 perk tiers unlocked.

This would be 3 + 6 + 2 using the formula you gave, so in this scenario I would end up with a prestige 11 Meg? However it would be capped at 9 for the update, I just want to make sure I am understanding how these are all added.

With the changes announced today, any character that is P3 before the update will be P9 after, regardless of perk tiers (since 9 is the cap)

Ok I for one agree that it shouldn't cost bp to prestige now but...are we really complaining and acting like it's the end of the world over 20k bp....Unless MMR screws me with teammates or a super skilful team as Killer I can easily make at least 10k in one game. I could see if it was like 200k or a growing cost with each prestige but it's not thank goodness.

I am really glad they reduced it from 50k, but it still doesn't change the fact that there was no reason to introduce a prestige cost in the first place.

  • 1. I'm not 100% sure but I think you stay on the same level.

    2. If you unlock tier 2 of SB in Dwight's bloodweb it will not change if you prestige Meg to P2. It will stay tier 2. However, if you prestige Meg to P3, tier 3 of SB (as well as her other 2 perks) will automatically appear in every other character's inventory, including Dwight's.

    3. A perk bought from the shrine automatically appears in every character's inventory at tier 1. If you already have the perk at tier 1 (through either shrine or prestige) then you can buy it again from the shrine to unlock it at tier 2 for every character. Same goes for tier 3.

    Hope this helps!

I didn't check streamers/YouTubers about the charms, and I didn't DL the PTB this time, but do the ones you watched owned the ST chapter? Because, for instance, I own it and my perks still look the same (with Nancy's face, Steve's body...). The charms do look the same because they own the chapter or...?

I'm not saying it's not a proof, I'm just curious.

Edit: I mean, if they didn't own the chapter, they won't have the charms... (I just thought about it, LOL.) But I'm still wondering if the charms don't look like this because the perks for the ones who have the DLC didn't change.

This is why I don't think the charms mean anything. The charms can only be obtained by those that already bought the dlc and they use the icons that are already in the game.

Correct, moving forward. However if you have the "teachable" perks unlocked already they will appear in bloodwebs without prestiging.

In fact, you may have tier 1 unlocked automatically if you have the teachable at the time the new system goes live (see image)

Because BHVR treats DBD like a free to play even though they charge for it. It’s ridiculous how much the game is starting to feel like a mobile game, and it sucks. There is no reason to add a prestige tax besides having some dumb mechanic slowing your progress. It’s like if BHVR thinks they did something too nice for players they need to add a big middle finger in there somewhere.

I don't even think that explains it. If bloodpoints could be acquired with real money (a terrifying thought) then it might make sense from a business standpoint, but as it is it's just a bizarre choice.

  • @ShinobuSK said:

That 50k prestige tax is truly some dumb #########

Yes, extremely dumb. The main issue I take with it is that it had to be a conscious decision. More than one person must have thought it was a good idea and I fail to see any good reason behind it.

  • @Mr_K said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3049693#Comment_3049693

Here's the issue. I could of done all of thise and still got double of my end game BP. Now I can still do the things listed but my extra 26-29k bp is absent.

Yes, no one can argue with that. And it definitely stinks that it's going away with the only compensation being a possible bonus for playing a role you may not want to play.

I only hope the developers mitigate the loss of these bloodpoints with things like more bloodhunt events, greater frequency of cakes, puddings, and BPS in bloodwebs, more frequent login rewards, etc. Also, the new 50k cost to prestige is just bizarre and completely unnecessary.

I do agree with the decision to remove bloodpoint bonuses from perks so we don't feel obligated to run them simply for the extra BP.

  • @Mr_K said:

Fine for you but BBQ was indeed responsible for half my BP intake.

This is simply not mathematically possible unless you:

    1) never claimed a daily ritual

    2) never claimed a tome challenge

    3) never used a bloodpoint offering

    4) never played a game in which another player used an offering like BPS, Anniversary Cakes, etc.

    5) never claimed a bloodpoint code

    6) never got a login reward

    7) never received a rank reset bonus

There may be more I am missing but every one of these things decreases the percentage of total bloodpoints earned from BBQ and WGLF, which at absolute maximum can be 50%

No. For example, Level 50 all perks with the new system is P6.

Prestige 3 with all perks in the new system would be P11 for killer and P12 for survivor (see videos from content creators showing the PTB - Paulie Esther has a good one). Each current prestige level earns a bonus prestige level (effectively doubling your prestige) then additional levels are awarded based on perk tiers.

The question we have is what level the character is on after the update. So a character at level 50 with 70 perk tiers and no prestige would be granted prestige level 1, but I'm not sure if they would stay at level 50 or be reset to level 1 (I think they stay at level 50).

I suppose things could change when the update goes live but this is how it was in the PTB.

Edit: Sorry, I misread your post. This is correct: All perks with no current prestige would be granted P5 for killer or P6 for survivor.

  • @I_CAME said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3047599#Comment_3047599

If you are a level 50 and have 70 perks unlocked does it just take you to prestige 1 level 1 or do you go to prestige 1 level 50?

I'm not 100% sure but I think you maintain whatever level you currently have so I think you would stay at level 50.

I wasn't able to do the PTB so I only know from patch notes and videos from content creators. Maybe someone who had access to the PTB can verify.

  • To get P3 you need 170 total perk tiers.

3 pages of tier 3 perks would only be 135 perk tiers. 4 complete pages of t3 perks would be 180 tiers and would be enough for p3 after the update.

    Here's the breakdown:

    P1 for 70 -119 tiers

    P2 for 120 - 169 tiers

    P3 for 170 - 219 tiers

    P4 for 220 - 269 tiers

    P5 for 270 - 319 tiers

P6 for 320+ tiers (only survivor can have this many)

Also note that characters currently prestiged will get a bonus prestige level for each current level (so a current p1 would become p2, p2 would become p4, and p3 would become p6).

  • @Laluzi said:

The only thing better about the old animations were that the survivors had more of an aura of fear about their actions than they do now. Otherwise, they were way jankier and there's zero reason to downgrade back to them.

Yes! I would love to see expressions of fear on the survivors' faces. No reason they should look so smug being chased by a psychopath.

  • Based on content creators showing what happened to their characters in the PTB you are correct.

Each existing prestige level awards a bonus prestige level: P1 becomes P2, P2 becomes P4, and P3 becomes P6.

Additional prestige levels are awarded based on perk tiers.

A current P3 survivor with all perks at tier 3 ends up being P12. A fully maxed killer will be P11 because there are less available killer perks.

You have to pay to prestige in the new system? How much?

50,000 in the PTB. We can only hope they change it before it's live.

  • @Khelendrose2020 said:

I don't put anything past BHVR. I have several killers and survivors maxed out, but not prestiged.

Right. Two weeks ago if someone had asked "will it cost bloodpoints to prestige?" I would have thought "no, of course not", but here we are.

Anyway, to answer the original question, the developers have stated that nothing you already have will be lost when the new system goes live.

  • Not sure exactly what you are asking, but any perks you have already unlocked on a particular character will stay unlocked on that character at the same tier after the update.

Exactly why I only played a few F13 games online. Thankfully that game has fun single player options.

No voice com is one of the main selling points of DbD for me. I play solo exclusively and I have no problem with it.

  • It's not up to the developers of the game. It is up to the license holders. And with a character like Freddy, there are multiple license holders (which is why we only have new Freddy).

I'm sure BHVR would love to add Freddy cosmetics considering how well they would probably sell.

  • @lav3 said:

Bad for new players who struggle to get many teachable perks as possible.

Even if prestige doesn't reset anything, you have to spend nearly 450 thousand BP for 3 tier 3 perks.

Also don't forget you have to spend nearly 900 thousand BP for bloody cosmetics in P6.

New system can be good for old gamers and for the future but this looks like FU to beginners.

I think people should still be able to get tier 2,3 perks in bloodweb.

They can get tier 2 and 3 in the bloodweb once tier 1 is unlocked either through prestiging or the shrine.

  • Until you want a lot of pallets. I was doing a tome challenge where you have to break dropped pallets and it seemed like there were hardly any.

Same thing happens when I'm doing a challenge where I have to succeed skill checks. I get 1 or 2 skill checks on an entire generator.

I think DBD knows what I'm thinking and for some reason it hates me and enjoys giving me the middle finger.

  • You don't get any emblem points for the chase if the chase ends with the survivor getting away unharmed. The best way to build up points for this emblem is to find healthy survivors and hit them as soon as possible. For this emblem it doesn't matter if they heal so if you are just going for this emblem focus on getting hits and nothing else.

If you do hook someone, stay away from the hooked survivor. You lose points towards this emblem every second you are too near someone on a hook.

  • I'm a PS5 player and I feel like in a lot of games there is at least one other psn player. Sometimes it's even 3 or 4.

  • @KateDunson said:

What trigger me the most is that they are doing nothing for who like me has EVERYONE p3 full perk

I believe they are adjusting prestige levels to compensate. So a character that is P3 level 50 with all perks might be P6 or higher after the update. I'm not sure how its calculated, but they said prestige levels would be adjusted accordingly and not just for characters that have never prestiged.

I understand it might not be much, especially since characters that reached P3 already have the bloody cosmetics, but it is something.

  • I belive it's just P3. Doesn't matter what level.

    I can't say 100%, but I'm pretty confident.

  • I believe you have to find the invitation before the end game collapse.

Also, it doesn't show you earned anything on the endgame screen. You have to exit the endgame screen and then it only pops up for a few seconds. It's possible you got them and didn't notice.

Not sure if either of these possibilities offer any explanation for you.

BHVR condones toxicity so don't expect too much to change. Remember when they were changing the animations and they said they wanted to make sure that teabagging was still satisfying?

Teabagging is not toxic, though. Toxic is telling someone they should kill themselves. Toxic is using racial or homophobic slurs.

Wholly disagree that BHVR condones actual toxicity.

  • @cannonballB said:

    From their update:

    Shrine of Secrets

Unlike before, where The Shrine of Secrets would offer teachable perks that then needed to be found in Bloodwebs, the Shrine will now allow you to purchase perks directly. Purchasing a perk through the Shrine of Secrets will make the Tier 1 version of it immediately available on all Killers or Survivors, much like prestige. Subsequent Tiers of that perk will also begin appearing in Bloodwebs.

You may also purchase a perk again to increase its Tier. This works seamlessly with the prestige system, as purchasing a perk you’ve already unlocked through prestige will instead increase its Tier.

So the way I read this is, it'll be less annoying because you can buy whatever perk you're missing whenever (not just when it's in the shrine). I could be reading that wrong though.

I think it's restricted to just perks currently in the shrine

There's a TLDR at the end of his video about his concerns.

    But a quick summary:

    • Some perks still need buffs (such as Dying Light, Furtive Chase, Autodidact etc)
    • Some perks still need nerfs (Mainly CoH, Prove Thyself, and Deadlock)
    • Basic M1 killers are buffed but there now is less incentive to use M2 attacks such as Shred
    • Hook trading is easier
    • Medkits are stronger now because of the Botany Knowledge buff
    • Off the Record is broken and is going to encourage bodyblocking more
    • Maps, items and offerings still need to be addressed
    • Nurse and Blight are even stronger now
    • Camping needs more counterplay

I like watching Otz but I haven't had the opportunity to watch his reaction to the latset developer update.

However I feel at least the first two bullet point presented here are unfair. In the anniversary stream they very openly said that they intended to change the most used perks while updating some others to compensate. Never did they say they would change every single perk that could use changing, nor would this even be possible in a single update.

would we keep getting them in bloodwebs in case we dont want to prestige a character whose teachables we're using?

i/e I have artist lvl 40 and right now I have her teachable perks appearing in bloodwebs of my other killers, but what happens after the update if I decide to get her teachables on a characters I haven't got them so far?

According to the developer response on this thread, your artist perks will automatically appear on all your other characters since you unlocked the teachables under the current system.

  • It seems a lot of people also aren't considering how this will affect future releases.

As it is now when you buy a new character you have to start from scratch with 0 perks. With the update, the new character will automatically start with all the perks you've already unlocked. If you've raised every character to level 50 at least once any new character will automatically start with every perk unlocked at at least tier 1.

It's a significant reduction in the grind when you factor in how the current system exponentially increases the grind with each new character.

  • @Remedicist said:

Wait, it works on addons too? If so, I'll definitely use that with diamond cufflinks

It says it extends aura reading by 2 seconds so there's no reason to think it wouldn't work on add-ons.

I see me using it with scratched and vanity mirror Meyers for sure.

  • Teachable perks are no longer a thing. However, if you prestige a character once that characters perks will unlock at tier 1 for all other characters. You can then unlock tiers 2 and 3 in the bloodweb as normal without having to prestige the character two more times.

  • @xfireturtlex said:

As others have pointed out, while the perk grind will be reduced by 75%, BP gains also just got cut by 50% for ALL players. In the end, this is doing next to nothing for newer or more casual players. Entry level grind is the #1 reason most players dont stick around. I know because over the years ive tried to get sooo many ppl into this game n not a single one of em stayed.

I like the idea of the new prestige system, but if you dont make significant changes to increase BP alongside it, its going to be dead in the water. Some potential que bonus is never going to be able to replace guaranteed double BP.

Disagree with the 50% cut for all players.

True it's pretty easy to hook all 4 survivors while playing killer, but not every player will have tier 3 BBQ on every killer, particularly new players. Especially since Bubba can only be bought with real money and the perk doesn't appear in the shrine very often.

Same goes for WGLF, and it was always harder to get 4 stacks making survivor even less of a guaranteed 2x bonus.

I definitely get what you're saying and I'll miss the BP bonuses from these two perks, but I think in the anniversary stream they mentioned more frequent login rewards, bloodhunt weekends, etc. We also have chilis, cakes, and other BP offerings. I know this won't completely make up for the loss but it will offset it a little.

  • @Adjatha said:

WGLF got a buff to compensate for the loss of the BP but BBQ didn't. Ain't that an embarrassingly one-sided kick in the pants.

True, but the effect of WGLF is way weaker than BBQ's. I feel the aura reading from BBQ is still somewhat worthwhile on its own, while the limited time boost to healing from the dying state is less so.

  • No, there's no secret perk combo that prevents the collection of event rewards.

It's possible you got a mask but didn't get the notification, or that you did and missed it since it goes by fast.

Also possible it's a bug. But as long as you collected the invitation before the endgame and then survived until a gate was opened you should have received a mask.

  • Green glyphs only spawn for survivors after generators are completed (not sure if you have to personally complete them) and for killer after hooking survivors.

My suggestion is to play killer, hook everyone at least once, then go glyph hunting. I usually get 3-5 a match that way.

  • @Grandpa_Crack_Pipe said:
