I feel SELF-healing (Not healing others, but like using a medkit or self-care) should let you keep DS up.
I just read the description again; anything where you're healing (including self-heals) doesn't deactivate DS, I guess that got changed. I wish that I could still styptic or syringe a friend, though.

I won't, both of those perks are pretty cool!
It 100% is meant to be an anti-tunnel perk, it punishes the Killer for tunneling because they have to waste even more time if they do. Also I wouldn't be opposed to DS hiding scratch marks n stuff for 10 seconds or something, either, but currently it does just fine in punishing the Killer for tunneling. Anti-tunnel :)
Also, I got my facts wrong with the time you get from DS. That's my bad there.
I was using holding W as a reference, and yeah I even said you should find a good loop earlier did I not? But yeah, solo queue can make getting caught again rough. Not much I can do about that there though, I'm not, nor do I know the CEO of face-camping.
I didn't. At all. I covered both ways your line could be taken in separate sentences. DS only affects tunneling off of a hook, though, and evidently thats the only type of tunneling that can be punished. A perk punishing a long chase would be terribly unfair, so.
I also started playing this game before the DS rework, I am painfully aware of old DS. I do think they're doing a good job with that concept, though, as DS is still a terribly effective perk in its current state, while now being fair.
Though, I believe we've reached the greatest middle ground we could with this argument and its clear we agree and disagree with statements in this thread in different ways, so I'd like to call it here and agree to disagree.
Finally, somebody with class.
So the nature of a perk can be divided into two parts: activation requirements and payload. Activation requirements are what it needs to start working, payload is what it gives when it starts working. DS, historically, has had very lax activation requirements, while its payload has always been the same; a killer grasp escape, a second chance to break free and do whatever. However, its activation requirements are slowly being molded into that anti-tunnel niche; and it doesn't jive with its second chance payload. It's a second chance, if you get tunneled off of the hook. An anti-tunnel ought to instead have an anti-tunnel activation requirement with an anti-tunnel payload. EG, having it so that for x seconds after you are unhooked, if you are hooked again in those x seconds, you won't move down the next hook state, you instead keep progressing from when you left off and at a slower rate, x amount of seconds decays twice as slowly while in chase/slugged, twice as fast while in a locker.
And yeah, this is pretty much the closest we'll get too agreement. As much as I get my rocks off to being told that I'm stupid (ask David), I think this is a fitting conclusion to our encounter. As long as you respect inner strength I'm happy.

It’s 10 seconds of zero scratches, which is the most of any perk in the game (tied with Distortion).
If Killers can lose Survivors with the 3 seconds of stealth from Dance With Me and Deception. Imagine the options for 10 seconds. Especially when another teammate is making noises and leaving a trail.
It’s all about breaking LOS in jungle gyms, shack, main buildings and indoor maps. Once a Killer loses eyes on you, you’re completely gone
Not until I inevitably un-break LoS and the killer can see me in my glitzy disco ball outfit. No, I will change my clothes, fashion is more valuable than winning.
-
Be careful not to get too general. If I went against iri head huntress, I am 100% sure that I would kill myself on hook, along with all of my teammates. Hell, I'll take the 5 minute ban.

Either way, I'm just sick of how they are marketing this chapter and tbh I'm kinda sick of their twitter anctics in general but I'm sure it's just me
It's just dishonest and oblivious to the actual state of the product they are marketing.
I'm sure some people think the Chapter's fine in its current state and I respect their opinion even if I fundementally disagree
Well, the marketing is pretty on-spot for the theme; classy socialites & Kim Kardashian go nuts with the social media advertising so at least we can give BHVR points for thematic consonance.
-
Just one day of Shirtless Myers is all we ask ....
-
I've said this in some other obscure thread but I think the chat filter was meant to shield them from the legal liability of what DBD players say. Just like all other online mediums of communication, they are partially responsible for what their users say and do, and if that amounts to something criminal (which isn't surprising considering what this community is like), they can possibly be held liable.
-
@Brokenbones said:
Because they are insistent on their release schedule and are confident that their 'social media marketing' is enough to get the chapter to sell
With this chapter even more-so considering the constant spam of social media about the chapter on top of the fact that they're trying to pull in more demographics into the game (they made a seperate Korean twitter just for dbd).
I'm extremely disappointed. I was disappointed by the PTB but I was hoping they might've made some tweaks in the weeks thereafter, some more polish and so on.
I've said it before, but it's gonna take months for this killer to be even remotely close to a final product.
I don't think they're trying to get more demographics, it's more milking what you have for everything it's got. One Korean killer from an overwhelmingly not-Korean game isn't going to increase the player base in Korea, which is actually already pretty sizable.

There’s already Self Preservation for that. If you were running both OtR and SP, and your Unhooker takes a hit, then you have a exceptionally good chance of disappearing on the killer.
Well self-preservation activates at a different time than OtR. Plus, I doubt the killer just blacks out when they hit my rescuer. Even a Blendette can be seen running behind a wall.

Honestly, @Bloodshade has the best answer from any discussion yet. Designing a video game can be an absolute chore; more than most people in the community realize. Not only do you have to dedicate time to actually design the damn thing in concept, which makes it so that you rarely have time to play often, you have to tell your programmers to finish it by deadline x and try to keep bugs to a minimum. They already delayed him once, so they were clearly having issues with timing already.
And it's a lot harder to just "listen to the community." Who represents the community? You can go onto the forums, but the loudest people here are often in the minority. It's just hard to find good advice and merge that with expert game building to make a perfectly efficient system.

It'd depend on the modification. No scratch marks would make it immediately meta and too strong. Making them cover a bigger or smaller area would be either an advantage or disadvantage at basically random times. Making them just harder to see would just be a headache for the killer, particular those with vision disabilities. So I don't know how you could modify them in a way that was fair and fun.
I thought about adding something like "half running," where you shuffle along pretty fast (maybe around 80% or 90% speed), but don't leave scratch marks. Then I remembered we have a finite amount of keys.

Solos need so much help. A chase indicator would alleviate so many problems. I wish they would have implemented something for that when they redid the UI.
I actually played mobile once (Don't worry, I already have a therapist), and they let you see the exact item and perks your teammates were running in the lobby. Add that to the pre-game chat and you can coordinate well with random strangers.
I thought a little chase indicator would have been nice too. Maybe a little perk, letting you see the auras of any survivor in a chase and gain an objective speed bonus the closer they are to you (either that or some buff about altruism but I'm too lazy to think about it).
-
@gatsby said:

You can be seen for a little bit. You just have to lose LOS within the 10 seconds.
Literally any indoor map, shack or jungle gym tile can give you what you need to disappear. All you need is a wall with some corners. Because the Killer won’t be able to guess which direction you went. And again there will be another teammate leaving tons of blood and scratches to follow.
I think having the killer know the general area of where you are is still pretty meh. I would really like it if it let you make a silent escape, without them knowing you were there. It would be a lot more interesting on that end.
-
@Blazelski said:
I knew OtR would get more attention with the DS nerf.
Clearly it does not need a buff, everyone should just accept that all survivors running Off The Record and Babysitter for absolute stealth after being unhooked should become the new meta. /s
I'm not entirely sure if Off the Record needs a buff, or if the other meta perks just need nerfs... Off The Record might actually be popular if Iron Will capped at 75% noise reduction or something.
My best shot at buffing it would be that you don't make any footstep (and maybe falling) sounds for the duration. But it's kind of hard to buff this perk much in a way that makes sense and is worthwhile without tipping it over into being too good and filling the niches meant to be filled by other perks.
What about modifications to scratch marks?

Oops meant to write down not injure and I dont think anyone needs good aim to be able to hit 8 out of 60 knives bounced off the floor. New blades seem more fun but are undeniably weaker imo
Yeah,16 blades is definitely excessive, which is why he should definitely have regular M1 capacity. His power is meant to help him get injures in situations where range is an issue (EG, Haddonhell fences), M1 at all other times.
-
@gatsby said:

It’s pretty common with unhooks.
If your teammate takes the hit after you’re unhooked, you can disappear. If you run BT and your teammate takes the BT hit, you can disappear.
It’s also not uncommon for Survivors to be grouped up when working on a generator and being interrupted. Self Preservation can be your ticket out of a bad situation.
Keep in mind that when Self-Preservation activates you leave ZERO TRACES. All you need is to round a corner and the Killer won’t be able to track you. The second they lose sight you’re gone which is especially likely to happen if other, trackable, teammates are nearby.
Dance With Me loses scratches for 3 seconds and still leaves a blood trail and sound. And that can throw Killers off big time. Now imagine 10 seconds with no giveaways at all
Well, that brings the issue of you have to not be seen, and I have literally not seen a Blendette in a few months (which I guess is the point but ...).
-
He's pretty meh but pretty fun to play.

Old trick blades could be cheese to remove the biggest flaw of it taking like 16 knives to injured. You could bounce them off the floor and could down people much faster.
Well again, my aim sucks (And its 8 knives for a down, 4 trick blade ricochets for a down). Plus, new trick blades let us raise with indoor maps.
-
Probably because it doesn't last that long. I doubt main event buffs would make Trickster very good, though.

@Friendly_Blendette said:

Not being able to stop shooting is a definite nerf imo as if you have tinkerer or some undectable thing you cant sneak up at all and it also makes any form of midgaming impossible during main event since you have a map wide red light more or less.
They nerfed the one addon that made him even remotely good and even with it he was still kinda mediocore
They fixed the main event taking ammo bug and I am convinced it was a bug because of his power description
Well they also gave him the ability to cancel main event, which has the unfortunate effect of, well, canceling main event, but it's a step.
I really had difficult getting use out of trick blades. My aim isn't much better than dog water but I can presume that it was also that the add-on wasn't that fun in the first place. I actually prefer the new trick blades; All I did was equip Lery's and go to town. It never worked but it was fun nevertheless.

Which is exactly what killers have to decide. If there is an obsession, killers have to assume that every single survivor is running DS. Every decision they make is based on incomplete information. Risk vs Reward. Before, DS was reward with little risk. Now we must make a tactical decision when DS is active.
The risk for killers was a 5 second stun, which they could shirk by slugging. Now, the risk for survivors is to completely deactivate their perk, their only defense against tunneling (other than good looping but for god's sake it's solo queue).

No slowdown while throwing knives.
Main Event can be activated at any point once it is fully charged. (you can wait to use it until you have a good opportunity).
With these changes, Trickster will be about Legion, Ghost Face, Myers, Pig, Demo power level, which isn’t crazy but is at least playable.
Those all sound good, plus a massive increase to the time after which the laceration meter begins to decay.

But we already have killers like that (e.g Nurse and Deathslinger)
Well Deathslinger and Nurse are definitely harder, because they have one (or two) shots to be spot on the survivor. You have to be good at sniping, hence why they're rated "hard." Trickster is more like seeing the survivor and start shooting, hence why he's rated "easy."

Myers was a marketing scheme but as well a thoroughly thought out addition to the game now and back then, trickster is a poorly designed shiny toy to attract new players with zero substance and reason to be in the game other than, "oh, asians like our game? lets make a k-pop killer!" what's next zombies from minecraft?
Comparing Myers to Trickster is comparing apples to oranges. Myers was a pretty unimpressive killer, and we all remember the hellscape of DS/Object that the halloween chapter brought along. Trickster is weak, but his design isn't "poor" and it's not for either of us to determine why they chose to design him the way they did.

having been one to reserve my judgement and been excited for his release, and having been someone who really, really, really wanted him to be and hoped he would be good, allow me to say he's dogshit. absolute dogshit. Getting Over It made me less angry, drawing a 6th damage heal vs Dragonic Nouvelle Vouge makes me less angry, learning nurse made me less angry, than playing as him. he's so unbeliavably weak and isn't even fun to back it up.
the midchapter better bring some solid buffs to him or twins, and the 5th anniversary better be at least adequate because this chapter is the biggest letdown i think i've ever had in my life and i play gatcha games in my free time.
The Twins do not need a buff, believe me. They need a mechanics change but not a buff.
Plus, I don't think any of us really expected him to be A-tier. Based off of how much crap Spirit, Hag, and Freddy get (and who can blame them,) BHVR was probably just afraid to make him too OP. Either way, regardless of how much canine feces he's on par with, I think he's fun. I wish he was 115% and had a handful of buffs, definitely, but he's enjoyable.

He wasn't buffed in the Ptb...
He had many glaring issues in the Ptb But not including:
-Iron Maiden didn't affect his reload.
-Main Event going down Despite maxing it out early on (Still does this btw. so yer ######### for power)
-16 hits with a POWER, Keep that in mind
-110 / 4.4m/s Easily loopable. can be abused by good survivors
-100% needs addons to win otherwise gg
-Ricochet addon was nerfed, Needed to be basekit
-Has an Ultra-rare involving you to be up-close and personal with it (Did i mention it doesn't down you / injure you either)
-Recoil on knives make no sense
-Lacefuckyouation Decays despite being in a chase. might as well punish myself for using said power if i end up not able to catch said survivor round a corner
And P l e n t y more my guy,
He was buffed. It's in the patch notes on DBD's twitter, among others. Not much, but we'll have to wait out and see.

Killers in this game are supposed to be something supernatural so i could see it getting removed.
Well I think the in-game reason for recoil was to prevent a lack of line of sight from being a death sentence. They overdid it, undeniably, but it's still a well-deserved concept.

You’re forgetting that Self Preservation also hides scratch marks. As well as blood trails and silencing. For 10 seconds as well, which is plenty of time to disappear.
No other perk in the game does those things at the same time. You literally turn into a ghost if you can break LOS.
It will probably only activate a few times during each match, but the opportunities it can provide to get out of bad situations can’t be understated.
The issue is that in what situation are you going to be with another survivor, unseen by the killer, and in need of an escape? Such an arrangement is just not that common.

Right, because you get access to BHVR's balance sheets.

There is no version of this where you're right.
Tapping a gen is contributing less than a percentage, in addition to ending the regression (which again, is literally nothing). There's no dichotomy here.
