As long as MMR exists no matchmaking will work. We don't have enough players, and yes i'm accounting for CROSSPLAY, to warrant not only an MMR system but a functioning matchmaking using MMR.
MMR in DbD is all but uselesss since there's absolutly no way to do any sort of tracking on any sort of statistics to have any guess where you'd be placed. BHVR themselves already admitted the system fails at depicting skill so why it's used it's beyond me except for the fact they've spent an entire year and thus lots of money during that year to attempt the system so now wer'e stuck with it wether we like it or not. And we don't like it...
Plus the Cap for MMR is so low that i'll argue 90% of the active playerbase is High MMR without much effort. It doesn't matter if you're 2000 MMR or 2 million MMR, if you're above the soft Cap then you're High MMR.
Matchmaking should always prioritize connection quality imo. Whats the reason for prioritizing queue times if the connection is bad and the match doesn't play well? The only reason DbD is prioritizing queue times is because there's been a massive drop in the player count. The game went went from nearly 70k active players just in Steam to about 34k. Roughly 50% of the player base has left the game since July 2021.
I'm from Portugal and i spend more time playing with and against Russian players, be it day time or night time than i do against any other players from any other region.
My survivor matches are either 4 man escapes or 4 man fails, there's absolutly no consistancy to my matches. I can be on a winning streak and then i'm randomly put with something i'd describe as absolute BOTS. On killer it's even worse i don't even get easy matches whatsoever and i'm strictly unable to play certain killers or it's guaranteed that i won't even get a single Hook. I legit can't play Wraith or Ghostface if i'm against Russian players, i'll get the sweatiest survivors you can imagine, body blocking on first hook, insta sabos, insta saves, you name it i've faced it. If i play Sadako or Pyramid Head i can have "normal" matches but if i win 2 matches in a row then i'm immediatly sent to "death row".
You know this game has 100x the population of games I play with players making the same "SBMM doesn't work because low population" argument. As I said before, you can have better quality matches or you can have quick matches, and BHVR chose the latter. Small studios can pull it off, by extending the matchmaking time a little along with region parameters. It's not rocket science.

Seriously, why is it so hard to be put up against people that are similar in skill to me? When I played survivor, my matches, for the most part, were great in terms of the killers I faced and teammates I got. Now that I am taking a break, the majority of my matches are lopsided and I end up feeling hopeless when I play. It's like every survivor I chase knows exactly what to do, how to do it and how to counter me.
Before anyone says anything, yes, I am bad. I hit my skill ceiling a long time ago, there is no amount of "git gud" that I can do. I'm not asking to nerf survivors, I'm not asking to change the game, I'm just asking to be matched up fairly. Is that too much to ask for?
Is there a problem with killer population at higher mmr? Is that why I keep getting these sweat lords? I mean, every time I log on, killer always has a blood point bonus of 50% before 6PM and 100% after.
I'm at the point where I'm wanting to just play Bubba and watch the light die out of my victims eyes as they lose hope until I finally break my addiction to this game and move on.
Sorry if this can be considered as a rant, but it is extremely frustrating.
BHVR still desperate to make sure players get any match rather than wait longer for quality match. Heaven forbid such a thing could be done. Add lobby skipping, and you have a recipe to ensure at least some players are guaranteed miserable experience. But BHVR, you keep doing you. Any match at any cost.

Got a video showcasing how you can full heal a survivor in under 2 seconds, or even just barely over 2 seconds when they are suffering from Sloppy Butcher.
The basic build is having two survivors run the following perks.
We'll Make It
Desperate Measures
Botany Knowledge
Resilience
Than both survivors bring an Emergency Medkit with Surgical Sutures and Medical Scissors
Than you need a 3rd survivor to run Boon Circle of Healing.
If every survivor is injured and both survivors with the heal build manage to get We'll Make It, and heal the Injured survivor with the Medkit, you can do so in under 2 seconds, or just barely over 2 if they have sloppy.
I have a video to showcase this.
Also I will note, you can replace botany with We're Gonna Live Forever and maybe do a pickup in under 1 second with this scenario.
Let me know what you guys think 🙂
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/74AXUPQRYMVG/dbd-clip.gif
Why do I never see survivors run this in matches I play? Seems oddly specific to SWF.
-
Playing as survivor, I think bots replacement could work, or even a quick queue backfill, but probably the playerbase are too conditioned to think they just have to get to the next game quickly. It's hard proposing changes that challenge engrained mindsets.

I have 1200 hours in this game and have never once experienced this scenario. I'm don't see how this can be 'extremely common' to face, outside of hyperbole.
The only way I can possibly imagine people are seeing this more often than extremely *rarely* comes down to how good you are at hunting survivors as a killer.
In my mind, it's literally a skill issue, and if it's really so common that you see it 'all the time' then whispers should be a permanent part of every loadout for you. Because this also means that you're stomping games 'extremely commonly' and probably don't need all 4 of your current perks to get to the '2 survivors left at 2+ gens' stage of the game. Let's be honest, it's probably 4 slowdowns and no information perks, isn't it?
If you've never seen it, then it doesn't exist right? Clearly a "skill issue" in comprehending other peoples experiences.

The one time during this recent Winter event I played killer without VPN, a survivor DCs and my internet goes out a solid hour after that. I tried resetting my router etc. It's a strange coincidence. I always play DBD with a VPN just to be safe from this petty BS.

Carmina. 😘
-
The "community" is its own worst enemy a lot of the time. Compared to other games I play, DBD offers so many ways to basically ruin other players experience. I blame the devs for forcing this competition mindset.

I already think the Red Forest lithic structures are castle-like enough. I would prefer something that felt medieval village with thatched roofs etc. like in Borgo.

"Hitting second stage on first hook = killing themselves"
This I actually don't blame people for. If you can see the other 3 survivors not being prevented from saving you why should you be bothered to stick around? To me this is 100% more frustrating than someone DC on their first down at 5 gens.
If survivors going to leave me to die on hook at 5 gens it save my time to just get out of the game and into another ASAP.
OP, the best thing is to team up with others. Solo queue is just miserable.

Leave the achievements as they are.
I achieved all my adepts the hard way and I don't want them cheapened just to please a few whiners.
They are achievements not participation trophies.
I suppose you could say getting prestige the old way was also "cheapened". But it's a game not climbing a mountain or training to become an astronaut. Get some perspective.
I would change it to Ruthless because there are too many malicious DC.

Survivors with thousands of hours, aka the people I get matched with, do not make mistakes. At least not blatant ones which would enable someone like Wraith to sneak up to them. That alone makes playing someone like Wraith an impossible scenario. It's really awful how extremely outclassed various killers are.
Many low tier killers are no fun to play, if you are constantly being matched against too experienced players.
Also the same issue when they complain about only seeing Blight or Nurse.

So he makes a snarl sound also when I get close to people? Whats the since in the invisible if he's just going to blow it with a snarl so stupid lol.
It helps to have survivors that only listen for the bing bong or are only focused on skill checks. A lot about playing killer is capitalising on survivor mistakes.

It's a two-fold problem: the game is often frustrating for one reason or another, and the results of the match don't matter. Grade doesn't matter because it's based on pips and not a ranked ladder. We can't see MMR or opponent MMR. There's no compelling reason to care about the outcome of a match. Players aren't going to put up with frustrating things in a game when there's no reason to stick it out. They'll go next. A d/c penalty is not a solution. It's a band-aid.
I've never played another online PVP game where players disconnect and quit to this degree. And DbD is the only one I've played where the outcomes essentially don't matter. I'm just saying there's a correlation.
I see it a lot in other games when the matchmaking puts players with big skill difference. Most people don't want to get stomped especially if the matchmaker allows pubstomping (putting full team against randoms). Difference is in some games replace the player with a bot or backfill with someone else in the queue. In others it almost guarantees a loss for the remaining team.
-
They never fixed age old problem of "any match is better than no match" ideology, wait times and skipped lobbies. I'm going to take another extended break after Xmas. Coming back for the event was fun but reminded me a lot of the MM problems still exist which sucks the fun out of the game.

Why should digital cosmetics be seasonal?
I don't see it as a win-win situation i think it's simply a condition to drive more sales.
IRL seasonal cosmetics are seasonal because supply and demand. A christmas sweater won't get made in June because nobody wants it then, it would be a waste to make that.
When it comes to digital cosmetic there is no such thing as waste. All people do is buy permission to use the thing. Making it seasonal definitely does not seem necessary at all.
Well because it's a traditional thing, just like the seasonal events. It would be weird to see Xmas jumpers for sale in the summer for example.
-
Seasonal things should be seasonal, IMO this is a win in The War on Christmas. 😘

TBH the game just needs a set timer for a match 45 minutes or 60 minutes. If the survivor doesn't escape. The entity should take them and the match should conclude ^_^.
This has been needed since hackers taking game hostage and disabling EGC.

I have VSed many myers who are infinite tombstoning and upon checking their achievements already have it, this is why I use lockers now, because more often than not they aren't doing it for the achievement, then again - I've never been allowed to do anything to get my achievements.
I think it's simply unfair to assume it's to "deny an achievement" nobody knows if the survivor is trying to get an achievement or if the killer is genuinely after it as well.
I haven't got the achievement but survivors who do locker strat just put me off trying. It's another MMR thing. I can't be dealing with trying to play Myers against the average players who just above my paygrade.
There's the fallacy of survivorship bias (nothing to do with survivor/killer but only looking at successful Myers).

AFK killers, you mean the Cenobite exploit where they stand on the box just to grief players with endless hooks?

Just play the game normally, you will get it eventually.
I dont really understand why people want to play to get those Achievements. Especially because the reward for completing a game is almost non-existent.
It's nice to unlock an achievement and see a really low % rate. I know some players don't care for these things but part of me enjoys having unlocked some super low % achievement, it feels rare and special like I can say "oh only a hundred players have this". I have used all my RPD offerings already. ☺️

I get the feeling, even tho i just prestiged rebecca to 22, it feels more like pressure on u as soon as u show up to a lobby, like that person has high prestige, he must be good, or a target, and has to play better than any other rebeccas in the lobby. kind of regret prestige
It is a similar thing to XP level in some FPS games I play. I can be the highest level in a lobby and if it is visible I have had players call me a noob for not destroying them in a match, or if I am destroying them, players leaving the match early because they feel it's unfair to have been put against me. All it shows is I played the game a lot, it doesn't mean I am master rank.
I think it's maybe younger players who have these beliefs as they are not able to self-correct that it is possible to play the game a lot and still be a "noob". Plus attitude about gaming in general, I play to have fun and have zero aspirations for esports/hardcore competitive or streaming.
-
I think they should only be shown post-match. It just another way for survivors and killers to judge lobbies.
But the root of the problem is the MMR and the wait times for matches giving bad matches. Lobby dodging on purpose means other killers are having to deal with those lobbies, it's just selfish.
As a killer that returned to the Winter event after a break I admit I have been weary of anyone P10 and over because it's like a red flag when I am a low MMR killer. But I still get players that are hiding in a P0 alt with meta perks so it's not a given.

Sounds like a bit of an overreaction to something that is not a big deal. I'm not really sure why you're this upset, especially to the extent you would quit the game over it. I don't see this as lowering standards by any means. We're talking about the same developers who have made community designed skins and offered them for free in the free version of the battle pass. They've made a lot of cosmetics you can unlock for free just by playing the game as well as all unlicensed characters. They didn't have to do all that. They could've made everything cost auric cells but they didn't. I think you're being too harsh about this. Feng is a popular character so it makes sense that their focus would gravitate towards her for ideas to further monetize off her popularity with the community.
Well it is a big deal for me, both Feng cosplay outfits look out of place in the game. That's my subjective opinion. It ruins my immersion. If I see Cheryl in it, okay I might feel have a little sick in my throat, but it's manageable. We have different standards. That's fine. For every one of me, there are probably 20 whales who will buy the skin on Feng.

You can play offline next update though. I just think it would be unfair if offline people could farm bloodpoints/ shards while us online players have to actually work for it. I’m glad bhvr isn’t gonna do it.
I mean the whole concept of "working for" something in a video game is so Stockholm syndrome from years of psychological conditioning there are always players who have done it the hard way moaning about it when others get an easier path. At the end of the day, game should be fun to play. Not a second or third job.
Could BHVR make more money potentially from game sales this way? I think so.

Cheryl is one of if not the most iconic character from Silent Hill. She doesn't need Feng to increase sales of this cosmetic for her. Giving Feng this cosmetic doesn't hinder the value of it to those who want it for Cheryl. Its just something extra for Feng that will appeal to Feng players who may or may not be Silent Hill fans. I think a lot of players will get Fengs Princess Heart cosplay outfit just because they like the way it looks. I hope they continue Feng's cosplay collection and expand it even further to perhaps killer cosplays too.
Giving Feng cosplay just cheapens the original cosmetics. I want BHVR to be creative with some 'tegrity not milking a cash cow.

So are you complaining about MMR or Queue times???
MMR does work... but Queue times make MMR a moot point
They admitted their system was bad. It's not hard to implement a smarter matchmaking system that just means wait times a little longer for a quality match. Look at Splitgate, they managed to pull it off and they're a tiny studio.
At this point it's a waste of energy even rehashing the discussion over and over on the forums. BHVR know it's a problem they just need to fix it.
-
@RaSavage42 said:
Honestly it's not MMR... it's the need for quick Queues that messed you up
Prestige doesn't equal skill... it just shows how much BP a player has spent on a character
People don't want to wait for an even match... they just want to play
That they haven't fixed this problem even though devs pointed it out months ago the issue with skipped lobbies and queue times. It's the main reason I no longer play this game regularly and won't buy more DLC.
There are F2P games with better matchmaking than suffering this nonsense. But they don't care as long as 4 survivors get their pubstomp experience.
