If you play the game casually, then I don’t see why any of this upsets you. Play and enjoy, regardless if you win or lose. But the fact is that if you want to win, you shouldn’t be able to do so with minimal effort. You need to sweat if you are playing against other human beings.
Sweating is fine for competitive-minded players. But killers have a much smaller margin for error than survivors due to the 1v4 aspect, so the effort required to have a fun and competitive match as killer is higher. That’s why you see all these slowdown perks (Ruin, Pop, Corrupt, Tinkerer) in 90% (yes, I made that percentage up but the principle is valid) of killer builds. This creates frustration, and humans tend to be aggressive when they’re frustrated.

I don’t feel weak playing survivor at all. I have time to cleanse totems, do gens, and t-bag the killer during the game. Pretty stress free experience.

That sounds fun to be a survivor then. Not.
That’s why BHVR coddles to the survivor side. If survivors have to actually use more than 5 brain cells versus a killer then they’ll call the killer “un-fun”.
Can’t jeopardize those booty short cosmetic sales!!

You can but you won’t.
There’s an insufferable amount of hackers ruining the game right now but BHVR hasn’t done anything about it. You think they care to ban one player who AFK’s on a specific map?

I still remember very vividly a match that made me so mad I quit playing for a week and stopped maining ghostface. I was playing on rotten fields (before the rework) and despite the fact that I started the match really well (I managed to get 3 hooks before the first gen was done), one meg managed to loop me for the entire match while teabagging me. She kept 360ing and the more she did it the more butthurt I got. At the end I ended up not getting any other hook.
After that I learned that I really should not be getting that mad over a game.
Your name is very appropriate for this scenario. That’s why you should never get tunnel vision. If a survivor is wasting too much time, go for a weaker link.

completely fair, but don't complain when it happens to you, simple as that. Play like a dick, have fun getting treated like it.
It happens even if you don’t play like a dick.
If you have a rough game, survivors still have the propensity to send you a “ggez baby killer” despite being unprovoked.

Since each killer has a different power levels, you can play any killer and hit a ceiling with that killer. The good thing about MMR is if you have a weaker killer, then you will always go against survivors at that skill level. I think MMR actually fixes a lot of problems with their system. I play Trapper a lot and he's considered a weak killer. With MMR, I will always be placed against survivors that will challenge me but won't totally decimate me every game.
That’s not actually true. If you’re at Max MMR with (let’s say for example) Spirit which is 1900, your worst killer who you never play or practice with will be around 1700 MMR instead of the starting 1100.
The Devs claim that skills and game knowledge is shared amongst killers. Well duh, if all you do is chase as an M1 killer then it’s the same principle. But if you want to learn a power you’re SOL, you have to face against experienced survivor.

What does simply clean mean ? It will not be quite that simple. I'm curious anyway what the survivors will do....many will certainly go for the throat. One will want to destroy totems, the other bless. I think that will be fun :)
If a killer is “reactivating” a Hex perk by snuffing a Boon, you can cleanse the totem instead to permanently remove the Hex from the match.

And I agree with the fact that killers having to snuff out totems continuously would not be healthy for the game. But sometimes when people test things, they may test something in its most overpowered state to see whether that has potential or if it will not work. The sheer amount of feedback received from both forums and videos on YouTube and other services may help dictate to them how it's ridiculously strong, and with data they can amend it before it becomes live.
It's healthier for sanity to realise a ptb is just that and when the game goes live to hope the data and feedback received makes them fairer.
We can only hope.
BHVR doesn’t have a good track record of releasing a well balanced product on a consistent basis.

The only thing I really question in regards to measuring for a metrics is the chase duration. While on paper it seems like a good idea, but we run in to the problem of how do we measure killers who can break chases/loops? Like for Bubba and Billy, how do we measure what's good for them since they can insta-down survivors with their chainsaws? What about stealth killers like Ghostface who can expose a survivor and insta-down them too if they get the jump on them? Also Nurse just flat out breaks even measuring something like this since cus of her power.
Other than that I actually agree with the other points and I've actually said the same thing about grading the survivors more as a team and giving them more BP as a result, to make the amount earned somewhat closer to what the average killer can earn. Also wouldn't totally screw survivors who get camped/tunneled right out the gate, so they'd be able to get more than just like 12 BP lol.
It’s not a problem because:
If you’re playing nurse and end chases quick then you should be getting paired with survivors who last longer in chase.
If you play Bubba and instadown a lot, same principle applies.
-
I feel like my worst killers that I never play with get matched up with the sweatiest gen rushing survivor teams.
I played Pyramid Head on Midwich for a daily and I only got one hook because I kept missing Rites attacks. All of my opponents were red grade 1, while at killer I’m currently gold 3. Also, I never play PH save for dailies or build requests.
Meanwhile with Spirit I get paired against sweat squads about 50% of my games. So strange.

Just a Devil's Advocate thought here: Undying was originally overpowered, but then nerfed from patch notes 4.2.0 to 4.5.0. So they ultimately changed it, most probably based on feedback and data. Since this is a ptb when it is first being tested, it currently isn't fair to compare it as Undying was out for a while before being changed, and this is the first time a Boon is being seen in action. Like a tester.
I'd say it would be fairer to make that comparison if they have not altered Boon totems at least between now and when "Hour of the Witch" is officially released. Because a ptb is for testing and the Boon has not been made live, it's worth reserving judgement.
It’s more about how BHVR likes to contradict themselves when something doesn’t make the game “fun for survivors”.
My listed quotes of their official statements are a reflection of that hypocrisy:
Cleansing totems is too much work for survivors, but it’s okay for killers to have to waste time snuffing Boons all game long.

That doesn't matter. You have to remember a LARGE portion of players don't play killer much or even at all. They don't care about evidence or the observable reality of how DBD truly is when it comes to game balance and design choices, or how the game really is. They are bias and only acknowledge bad ideas or things when it only affects their favored side of the game negatively. Just look at all the people rejoicing over the Spirit nerf. The viable killer pool against actual decent teams is already jokingly small. Now one of few killers in that pool is getting nerfed, and most players couldn't be happier about it.
“The lives of the many outweigh the lives of the few” kind of vibes.

Just make it so that if the killer finds and snuffs the Boon totem, it becomes a Hex totem for a minute or two, DEBUFFING the survivors instead. So if they all want to run boons, you can pop 'em all and make the survivor team way, way weaker than if they just put one, well-hidden boon in an out-of-the-way corner of the map.
That lets boons stay super powerful because if they ARE discovered, the killer gets a chance to turn the survivors' perks against them.
Exactly. Right now boons have ZERO risk or downside.
Hexes have a huge risk because once gone that’s 1/4 of your side’s perks gone for the rest of the game.
Boons are just 1/16 perks but can be relit. Gotta love the logic.

Do survivors have Ruin
Do survivors have NOED
Do survivors have Haunted Ground
In summary, Killers have hexes that do insanely powerful effects that affects the entire map, when duplicated 5 times with Undying, you suddenly have a seriously unbalanced game.
You do see how how having Ruin, NOED or Haunted Ground which effects the entire map duplicated 5 times is entirely different than having a medkit that only affects a small area.
Just wait. I’m sure our amazing developers will have a Boon: Anti Ruin “generators repair themselves” soon enough.
Ruin, NOED and Haunted get disabled permanently after being cleansed. Boons do not, therefore they should either (a) not have drastic effects or (b) have drastic effects but be able to get permanently cleansed.

We can only hope but i dont believe they are going to nerf it because of the range restriction on the totem. If they nerf it i expect them to remove 4 meter on the totem or something ######### like that
28m is a big range for a perk that benefits 4 survivors.

Its simple because they want player to buy the new survivor so her perk need to be strong

65% is still 65%, no matter how the survivors play or killers play.
That’s a narrow view of looking at things.
If I get 4 hooks all game and end up with 4 kills because I brought NOED, you’re basically saying killers are overpowered. In reality, the survivors had the power role the whole match until an unbalanced perk gave the killer the edge.

It actually would solve A LOT of issues, for those who want to play casually it would solve queue times a reduction in sweatier players since they are likely to gravitate towards ranked, and benefits for competitive players is they get a more balanced game since the devs could look at more accurate data, how ever they can't just add a ranked mode with no incentive other than climbing the ranks. Just adding a charm or a cosmetic for reaching the highest rank would probably be enough of an incentive, maybe even more BP.
The last part is the only thing that would push players towards a ranked mode over casual. No one is wanting to sweat their balls off consistently in ranked if they can get a mixed bag in casual mode, UNLESS there is an incentive like double bloodpoints.
-
@Munqaxus said:

Boons are completely different from Hexes. You can't compare the two as if they are the same thing. It's like comparing an apple to an orange.
Boons
- Any totem can be selected to be a Boon
- Boons do not start at the beginning of the match
- Boons can be destroyed in 1 second
- Boons make a loud chiming noise within 28 meters so the Killer can easily find them.
- Boon notify the killer when they are made.
Just because you add "totem" at the end doesn't make them the same thing. Saying there is hypocrisy in balancing makes absolutely no sense.
You realize that Hex: Undying was nerfed because Ruin and Devour Hope existed. Boons don't have Ruin or Devour Hope like effects. Now if the developers made a Boon that made all gens speeds go faster. Or if the developers made a Boon that let you Mori a Killer, then you would have a point.
- Already an upgrade over hex perks. You can pick a hidden spot rather than something out in the open, easy to see.
- Only takes 15-20 seconds (I think) to bless. Not very long.
- But they can be relit.
- Survivors have Maps and Totem Aura perks to help them find totems super easily.
- Survivors are notified when they’re under the effect of a hex.
In summary, survivors have easier ways to counter hexes than killers do for boons. FACTS.

Kill rates are at 65% last time I checked 2 weeks ago. So you are right, the game isn't balance for 2 kills / 2 Escapes.
It’s not 65% because killers are over performing, it’s 65% because survivors make mistakes or get too cocky.

No it wouldnt, because people who feel like playing the game at a more competitive level can, there is literally no downside to adding a dedicated ranked mode. There is not a single game out there, no matter the genre, that suffered from having a ranked mode
It wouldn’t “suffer” but it would be pointless and not solve the issues this game has.
-
@Munqaxus said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2542867#Comment_2542867
You are the one saying that Killers should be handed 3 kills per every 1 escape. The is the very epitome of Entitlement.
2 kills / 2 escapes is exactly even and considered a draw.
Even experienced killer players that I watch on stream can struggle to get a hook before 2-3 gens pop. The game isn’t even balanced right now for 2K/2E.
Some “stats” that show more than 50% kill rates are very misleading. Perks like NOED can secure endgame kills when they aren’t deserved. Survivors can get too altruistic. Survivors try to wait around the hook to get saves instead of rushing gens… the list goes on.
If survivors are efficient, there is no reason they shouldn’t get at least 2 escapes every time.

Edit: If they make any changes at all.
This. Nothing too drastic changes from the PTB to the live server. It feels like it’s more of a “how many bugs can we catch before it goes live?” environment rather than “how can we balance this further?”

Unranked would use grades or no means of matchmaking, meaning faster queue times. And ranked would use MMR. Queue times might be longer but those who want to play this game competitively will go against others with the same mindset.
So the same game, but two different queues…
That just means sweaty killers and survivors will go into the unranked mode and stomp on those looking for more “chill” games.

A clock survivors are winding back each time they place a boon.
Outside of stacking the healing speed effect (which bhvr seriously needs to look at, a simple 3 second delay after being hit before you can heal is all it takes) they really aren't that big of an issue.
The fact that the boons have a cost of time alone makes them so much more better designed then all the current meta perks where they get all their powerfull effects for free.
Boons as a concept is one of the most healthy survivor changes we had in forever.
In order to have their powerfell effect they have to give the killer what they vallue most, time.
I applaud you for making a reasonable argument here.
And I would give BHVR a little more benefit of the doubt for their hypocrisy in their statements if they simply came out with a good product the first time - not releasing unbalanced trash in the PTB and making the PC community their free playtesters.
-
@Shroompy said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2544422#Comment_2544422
Thing is with that, normal matchmaking had issues
Another issue is a lack of separation of casual players and competitive players, we need a ranked mode
What would the difference be between the 2? Typically “unranked” modes mean you don’t earn any experience (bloodpoints) or you are restricted from certain things (perks). I doubt many will go for the unranked mode if there’s little incentive other than the promise of it being potentially less sweaty.
-
Survivors focusing on doing gens quickly isn’t the problem. It’s the speed at which they are able to do them.
Killers can have 0 hooks by the time 2 gens pop, that’s a problem.

Saying the balancing is survivor sided doesn't mean they don't nerf survivors too, nor does it mean they don't buff killers. They do, and everything they've done the killers appreciate.
The imbalances become apparent when you parse out changes over time. When they nerf killers they will sometimes buff something to make up for disparities the nerf creates. But when they buff killers, they almost always nerf some other aspect. This isn't the case with survivors. If survivors are nerfed, it's usually to make way for a new perk they're releasing, or the thing was broken. Mettle of man is one such thing, it was broken. Undying was not broken.
Undying is a good example of how power gets unevenly distributed. If undying hadn't been changed, it would be perfectly balanced in conjunction with the release of boon totems - I don't think it'd be over powered at all. But, alas, they're not switching it back.
Another example, they nerfed stridor and indirectly buffed iron will which has no counter anymore. Now, they're nerfing the spirit, but they're not reverting the changes to stridor. They're also buffing no mither, which even with stridor will only cause grunts of pain to be at 50% which is what no mither was before the change.
Change after change like this compounds into an imbalance over time.
Survivors: Spirit has no counterplay
Also Survivors: *run Iron Will*
