Again, even if it’s an intro video, it could be worded a little better. That’s my opinion.

To be fair, moving in a straight line is not beneficial when the killer is not stunned and you don't have a speed boost.
However, if you have a speed boost and/or the killer is delayed, then yes widening the gap by holding W is the right call.
Context is everything. Context, apparently, is lost on people in this day and age.
And the video doesn’t provide much context.

"What seemed to be"
So you had no idea their skill level, or even if they wanted to get away, or dropped the controller to grab their bong, or were just drunk? These are just some internet randoms you knew nothing about? Fun stuff. Not sure what it's supposed to prove, but fun stuff nonetheless.
Also "while possibly using some windows along the way" isn't what the video you started this thread to complain about mentioned, it was just running away in a straight line. No vaults, no pallets. Get it?
So in the end from your comment what we have is "I played some randoms who didn't loop well, I think they would have been better trying to link loops and get distance, but have no way of testing that theory"
Well since this game has zero indication of what a player’s skill is (hidden MMR), no - neither myself nor you, nor anyone can tell what the player’s true skill level is other than the eyeball test.
You act like I’m the only one with this opinion. The average person here knows about the Hold W meta and how effective it is.

It takes skill to pull off well but you can use bite the bullet with self care or a med kit to lose the killer when he's after you. It doesn't work if they have nurses but nurses seems to not be a current meta for killers.
The main reason it can work is the fact you go from making a lot of noise to no noise which can throw off the killer.
True… although the Killer can still follow your scratch marks and blood trail, and since you’re forced to stay completely still to get the effect it’s a huge risk.
The perk is average at best. IW is an undoubtably superior perk.

So I tested this with my wife and a couple friends.
She's never played before, and only has a copy of the game because she likes stranger things and didn't want to miss the chance to get Nancy if she wants to play around Halloween, which puts her at the exact skill level the video was made for.
We tried each killer. As soon as she saw me playing killer, she ran away in a straight line.
She lost every single chase.
Turns out, it was pretty futile for a newbie with no understanding of the game mechanics to try and run away in a straight line.
It's almost like there is some game mechanic that makes killers run faster over time in a chase like that, meaning ultimately it's impossible to outrun without any other tools. Weird, right? /S
And I’ve played against what seemed to be inexperienced survivors who tried to loop me and I down them faster than if they just simply held W to gain distance, while possibly using some windows along the way.
-
@Snowbawlzzz said:
W isn't the best tactic. It works, but a good looper will always waste more of the killer's time than a W holder, and people should strive to be good loopers. Why would BHVR tell people to do braindead crap?
Because they balance the game for braindead survivors.
-
SBMMR is a joke.
It’s called “skill” based matchmaking rating but there’s nothing in the formula to take actual skill into account. It’s based off of escapes and kills, as well as how long you’re in the trial.
Pretty good job so far.

Tbf, Pyramid head can still guarantee hits. The change virtually did nothing.
If you vault, yes. But he can’t immediately m1 like before if he lets go of m2.

I mean, aside from the most biased people, everyone should agree that Deathslinger needed some changes. If those were the right changes is a different thing, but he needed something.
The problem wasn’t his quickscope, it was that he could quickscope and still have the option of letting go and using basic attack (for example, if a survivor didn’t take a window/vault).
What’s funny is that BHVR did it right with Pyramid Head - they added an action delay if he let go of M2, so he couldn’t just guarantee hits.
It’s baffling that they didn’t learn from this and simply apply it to Deathslinger.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
Sucks to be you I guess.
Everything in this game can be changed. Regardless if you paid money for it or not. They can completely change the game and it still does not matter if you or anyone else paid money for it.
And you actually agreed to that with the EULA.
What you’ve said is completely true, unfortunately.
A fun killer is released - survivors cry “op” “no counterplay” - killer gets nerfed to rot in D Tier - nothing you can do about it

Interesting grammar but I’ll try to decipher it.
Your thread title is about the Evil Incarnate achievement needing a change. Your post has nothing to do with the achievement, but rather how the add-on descriptions confuse you. Tombstone Piece does not say you keep EW3 after a survivor kill but that is beside the point of your thread title. Here is the description:
- ”Killing a Survivor drains the power of Evil Within III, resetting it to Evil Within II.
The achievement does not need a change because you can run both iridescent add-ons to accomplish this.

All they need to do is just add a standard skill check when a surivivor begins repairing a gen that is regressing.
Just a standard check, no fancy effects or extra regression, this alone would help solve gen tappers.
Ok maybe a special check that has no great skill check spot.
Base regression still could use a small buff but good idea, man.

Nobody's saying they are free from criticism, we're saying the criticism is grasping at straws to make them look bad and it's no surprise they don't communicate with us more often.
Don't compare developers with heads of state, please. They're nowhere near the same level.
It’s not grasping at straws. I’ll just say it one last time for the people in the back:
“Holding W” is a braindead strategy/concept that even Rank 20s can understand and utilize. Saying that running in a straight line is futile undermines that strategy. It’s fairly common knowledge that you can waste loads of time by not trying to immediately loop and instead opting for max distance. It doesn’t require a rocket scientist IQ or Otzdarva-level experience to understand this strategy.
I respect that you’re trying to be Devil’s Advocate here, and I understand your argument. I simply think they could have worded it better. That’s my opinion - which you’re not going to change, just like how I’m not going to change yours.

Which was already established as having been a simple mix-up between one of those Exhaustion perks and another one (I think it was between Lithe and Windows of Opportunity, but I'm not 100% sure).
This is why the devs don't communicate more. What's the point, if people are going to twist everything into something that suits their own narrative?
Imagine if the President never gave press conferences because the media would twist the words to suit the narrative?
No, communication is necessary. BHVR is just not very good at how and when they do it so maybe they’re gun shy (not a good thing). I didn’t really care about the NFT stuff, but many on this forum were losing their minds because BHVR didn’t address it until a day or two ago. During the Patrick Q&A, he ignored some highly upvoted questions in favor of stuff that doesn’t really impact the community/playerbase.
And yeah, I realized it’s intended to be a beginner’s guide. Doesn’t mean they are free from criticism, regardless if the strategy is for Rank 20’s or not.

Your version may have worked as well, but the numerous comments and insinuations that BHVR "don't understand their own game" or are somehow displaying ignorance because of that one cherrypicked quotes are absolutely embarrassing.
Your point has been addressed. You're the one ignoring perfectly good points.

Survivors feel they’re getting tunneled if the killer even slightly looks in their direction. This has been a topic before: the pride charm thing is a stupid excuse and should never be brought up unless a player is making derogatory comments in postgame chat or private messages.

Haven't you ever played through a video game tutorial? They don't start you off with the strategies used by the best players, they start with more basic concepts that you can actually grasp.

Remember when they did regular streams/community feedback? Now remember why that stopped? Same thing.
Plus, these forums (and let's be honest) are basically an echo chamber for, primarily, new killers to complain. Reddit seems to be the survivor equivalent. If they took anything seriously because it was popular on either forum the game would be broken 6 ways from Sunday.
There's no point in them even responding to people that can't see past their side. And if they did say something they'd be trashed for "not sticking to it" or "you said X and it's been 5 days since and it wasnt implemented! Explain! Proof you're Y sided!"...
There are some genuinely good ideas that get brought up here and there, but they all get moved to die in the “Feedback and Suggestions” subforum.

The very next thing they say after the sentence you are complaining about is "Create separation by vaulting through windows." and the one after that is "Drop pallets to block the killer's path. Time it just right to stun them, allowing you to create even more distance"

They can start by not saying running in a straight line is “futile”.

Nah, I get it. I don't really like Trickster's design either (mostly because I don't like yellow as a color) but one of the biggest issues I always had with the All-Kill release was the intense amount of hatred just because he wasn't ugly, a monster, or a guy in a mask. I want BHVR to try new things.
The thing I do like about Trickster is how 'normal' he is in comparison to someone like Blight.
Yeah! You can still have human killers but you can do something to their aesthetic to make them look more like something enhanced by the entity.
I know we have killers like Ghostie and Myers with simplistic designs, but they’re licensed characters (although iconic) so you can’t do much there.
-
@jesterkind said:

That's complicating it for a level of skill where it won't matter, though.
I'm not saying your version is incorrect, but the version in that video isn't either. It's not displaying a lack of understanding of their own game, it's simplifying their own game to explain it to someone who's totally new to it. You'll notice the video doesn't mention how many generators there are on the map, or the other item types, or any other even basic-level aspect, because it's a very brief overview of the game.
Could it have been phrased better? Probably. Did it warrant this kind of response? Not even remotely and it's actively embarrassing that this many people reacted this way.
It warrants this response because when a company is so out of touch with their product people will call them out.

That's just different cultures though. In Korea, as far as I understand, Trickster's design is manly. Hell, from a few things I've seen floating around on the internet, there are some people scared of him in Korea. Where he's from.
I don't think it's fair to expect BHVR to design only for Western audiences.
Agreed, DAU was and remains a failure.
And I apologize if my opinion comes off as ignorant or phobic, I just don’t think his aesthetic is either manly nor frightening (for a DBD killer), cultures aside. He looks like a BTS guy with a bad nose bleed and edgy contact lenses. If you saw him in a dark alley at night with his bat, sure it could be a little creepy - but compared to other killers visual design like Myers, Oni, Hag… he’s a cockroach on the scary meter.

When the killer is right on you, and you're a new player, yes it is true. Even if it's not true under all circumstances, the point isn't for it to be the takeaway- the thing new players are supposed to take from that isn't "pallets and windows are always better", it's "pallets and windows exist"
This isn't a strategy guide, it's the "dip your toes in" barebones overview of the game, and under that context, what it says is true.
I’ve said this before but I’ll repeat it again:
Some people waste more time running in a straight line than trying to loop. So BHVR is still incorrect.
What the video should have said is (condensed):
Depending on your surroundings, make use of the environment by dropping pallets and vaulting windows or simply run as far from the killer as possible.
^ Not a perfect description but you get the idea.

I mean I can't say I disagree. I just find it leagues better in comparison to a few other chapters. Darkness Among Us in particular. Darkness Among Us did everything All-Kill did wrong, just worse.
Legion is a cosmetic character and nobody can change my mind. Their lore is some of the worst in the game, everything about their base design is drab and incredibly generic. Their original power design was so terrible it actually almost killed the game. Jeff is the only saving grace, along with some of the perks.
At least Yun-Kin has interesting lore and character.
I agree. Darkness was an underwhelming chapter and Legion gets nice cosmetics but he’s another killer with a boring power. Lore is also lame; a little more work and it could have fit into the whole “disguised as survivor” theme that their trailer gave off.

Literally few days ago i was watching SWF rank1 stream beating killers one after another and after 8 wins in a row they met killer with ~150h overall. Now I'm curious how actually MMR works and i don't think guy was so damn experienced to meet death squad.
Per BHVR’s lead game designer:
”there’s too much nuance to be able to make a real effective [MMR] system”
They’re literally admitting they can’t make a good matchmaking system. 😂
So why even force SBMMR onto the game? Make it a random matchmaking queue.

...This is aimed at new players who may not immediately catch on that looping is a thing, and it's designed to coax them into using the environment more. Holding W may be the right call sometimes but that's getting into a slightly more advanced area where you know the basics of the game, and this video is the basics of the game.
So yes, they said it, because it's correct and they should've said it. New players do need to be told that pallets and windows are a thing, that's what this video is for. Later on, probably not even that much later, they can be told that sometimes you don't need to waste resources and that running forward is the best call.
Genuinely, what did you want this to say? It's for onboarding totally new players so you simplify the concepts, which may lead to saying things more experience players know to ignore in some circumstances. This is totally expected and legitimate, nobody has done anything wrong here.
Even if it’s aimed at new players, they literally said verbatim “running in a straight line will prove futile”. That’s simply not true.

It's honestly so rare to see somebody not blindly hating on All-Kill it's honestly refreshing.
All-Kill was a cash grab for BTS fanboys/fangirls. The only good thing from the chapter was a couple decent (niche) perks.
Killer power is boring and not very strong (Main Event really only shines in a camping situation). Lore (which I don’t really care about compared to gameplay and aesthetics) is generic. Yun-Jin is a cosmetic character.

But BHVR says if you even have ONE killer with High MMR, that means you’re not allowed to have fun practicing with a brand new killer = you must be matched with the sweatiest of survivors.
