  • I think that the current peoblem with the ranking system has several points that I'll quickly list:

    1) Rank means time for Survivor, skill AND time for Killer. Killers have to cater more towards the current Emblem system than a Survivor, but some still cling to the outdated idea of a 4k means everything. There are more horror/slasher movies where one gets away, but heavily injured/traumatised.

    2) Disconnect between balance over Emblems and Kills. A lot of what people seem to try and balance around is the concept of pure lethality, while the Devs seem to juggle Emblems and kills. Legion and Hillbilly are perfect examples of this. Legion: 28 stabs, but did they die? Hillbilly: lethal, but one-shot is detrimental to rank. Devs claim they're balanced but community puts Hillbilly in the top 3, while Legion is commonly called the second worst.

    3) Poor matchamking system and an imbalance in the ranks. This builds on the other two points, because some killers prefer one-shot mechanics, camping and tunnelling are "viable strategies" and reward bad play and focus on rushing down a survivor team means that they are going to rank up slower than survivors creating more of a rainbow effect, especially with SWF not locking you out of playing outside of certain ranking brackets.

Will hidden rankings help? Not really. There'll still be a massive disconnect between the player base between each other and the devs about what's truly important. Tunnelling and camping will still be supported. Tutorials will still be vague.

That being said, if new players were warned that the tutorials will only teach the mechanics of the game, and a lot of the rest is learned through repeated gameplay, then it would go a long way. I kinda like that mindgames and perk synergies are not tutorialised, though. And part of the charm was learning these things for myself.

  • Depends on the match.

If I get camped or tunnelled out of the game instantly, I'm going to be pissed because I just spent 5 times as long trying to find a game as I did sitting on a hook or lying in the dirt, rather than actually playing.

Flashlight at pallets, endless.y teabag or show toxicity towards me when I don't and I percieve you as the type of person who is out to ruin my day just because I felt like playing something besides Survivor.

It's also as xenotimebong said. One person is purposfully targeting you with a game space of 5 people. I'm guessing we've all had those chases where the killer's gone after us for 5 minutes straight as gens are being worked on and internally screamed "GO AWAY! THERE ARE GENERATORS TO PROTECT!"

Yes Because the game want 4 escapes every game wait no thats what survivors want the game calls you a killer it wants you kill by hooking survivors just because you chase until gates are open and they escape doesn't mean thats how the game us ment to be played

I kill. I said I kill. I also TORMENT. The only example I had was Legion getting Merciless with one kill. I easily 4K with Pig, Doctor and Freddy. If we count an unlucky hatch escape as a 4k, then almost always 4k

The tutorials of Dead by Daylight only teach you the mechanics, not the deep intricicies such as perk combinations, mind games, or what the game wants. You have to learn that yourself. I play the rank game, I play with knowledge of the Survivor experience so I can counter it effectively. Funny thing is that when I did, I got WAY more emblems, and I also had way more fun. Stalling out the game and choosing when a survivor dies is the ultimate feeling in the game for me, and the current emblem system.

If you want to be a mindless kill-monkey, you do you. Just don't @ me because you can't come up with a decent justification for your playstyle or counter my points.

You can pip all you want but if survivors are exiting those gates you lost dont try to lecture me because you play how they want you to and only no life nerds act stuck up about punctuation on a message board your not really impressing about being a grammar nazi if that what you are going for

When it takes me about 3 reads to figure out what you are saying, then add some damn full stops. Easy as that.

People have their own definition of winning, and I follow the pip system that the game provides.

My original point you are obviously ignoring is that there is more to this game than just kills and killers like you aren't going to help the game's health. Killers who NEED buffs are being ignored because of kill-hungry stat boosters. Decisive Strike and Borrowed Time have become meta perks for survivors to try and prevent/delay underhanded tactics. My way of play both naturally counters those perks AND co-insides with what the ranking system wants.

If you want to be permanently kill-hungry then F13 is the game for you. Go nuts. Just don't complain that the DbD system doesn't support you and the player base flame you for using underhanded tactics.

They could always crossplay across consoles only.

And maybe try out PC+Consoles but not commit if it doesn't work out.

Make it so that console can detect M+KB and ONLY pair people with other M/KB users, or controller players who opt on.

    Simple as that.

  • He does, just a short one for a NON-LETHAL POWER. And he doesn't put you into Tier-III straight from one.

    Jeez.

Practice a few more games against him. If you watch his hand, there is a short delay after he waves it to when you're actually shocked.

He's also now the best non-mobility killer, but still easily loopable. Just don't hang next to a vault or pallet too long.

Aww, thanks for noticing. Been taking a break from this game and playing others, but this one keeps drawing me back. Such a love/hate relationship.

Yeah, I'll take a break from playing occasionally, but I'll still be on here to get the news.

Depends on what mates want to play or how work's been. Being an essential service kinda sucks some days.

In terms of ranking up and blood points. Fast games where you slaughter the survivors in seconds, doesn't benefit you all that much. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWEs9qKq6WA

Neither do instant-downs. Gotta remember that too.

I've heard a lot of Hillbilly players complain about that too. Half the chase, half the reward.

  • @elvangulley said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1219540#Comment_1219540

Sounds Like you just want to escape every game killers job is to kill not to make sure survivors have fun or screwing around not playing the game optimally

Really? We're going down this road?

What part of PIG Main says that i want easy escapes?

If I can constantly DOUBLE PIP as the Legion while only getting one kill, or "screwing around" as Pig by playing strike and fade, and still getting a 4k easily, then I'm pretty sure I have a deeper understanding of what the game wants from me compared to someone who can't even use punctuation to form a proper sentence.

  • I kinda like the solo-struggle, as it makes me improve.

But whe I get 5 games that are 4 Ebony Mori's, 5 NoEDs then even I'm gonna scream "######### KILLERS? WHO HURT YOU?" And I play killer too. And before you even ask, hardcore tunnelling Huntress who only cared about their obsession, two were Spirit then played the same Hillbilly twice with faster saw both times. Hillbilly didn't spread damage that much either

Not much fun to be had there.

  • Yeah. We've all eaten the rainbow at some point. Or stumbled into a tiny blue village.

  • Well, it's more Yui or Kate now, but they don't have the same ring to it. And I was a Claudette when I made my account.

  • I'd argue that this is false, especially with the current ranking system. The name "KILLER" and "SURVIVOR" are as misleading as just about every tutorial in the game. It's more like Torturer/Hunter/Predator than just a Killer, where as it's also a case of Victim.

Your goal is "Killer" isn't simply to kill. It's to inflict suffering. It is to protect generators. It is to DO THE ENTITY'S BIDDING. Then kill them.

But you're right. The community is mistaken, and you have perfectly highlighted that misconception.

It is a bit much. This status effect would only be applied by Cannibal

If you had this in effect, then Gashes would be the chainsaw's effect, not an instant-down. Which I'm OK with.

  • @SquirrelKnight said:

I get that, and it sucks when it hits you. That still doesnt mean the perk is badly designed.

Its the nature of team games for everyone to work hard on it. I totally know its a pain to get hit by NOED, but you even say you do what you are supposed to do and your team doesnt. Use aftergame chat, teach survivors to do the bones.

Xbox player. There is no chat. And hardly anyone reads messages. And I've covered why it is badly designed in kther threqds about the perk.

My changes to NoED would help alleviate the stresses of going against it and it's BS surprise factor: only activates after all gens are completed in instantly notifies of the Exposed effect. Still an increadibly strong basic perk, doesn't affect dominating killers and discourages gen-rushing within reason while no longer being an infiriating surprise.

  • @Waffleyumboy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1219457#Comment_1219457

Maybe there is a better way to slow down objectives? Maybe they get a new status effect, maybe called Gashes that decreases their healing, sabo, and repair by 15% but can be removed by a teammate restoring you of it which would take 8 seconds. AND Gashes can't be removed within 50 seconds of them being applied. AND Gashes being removed makes you scream. AND Survivors move 10% slower while they have Gashes and are Exhausted. AND Deep Wounds stacks on top of Gashes. AND Survivors are 10% louder with Gashes. This would encourage survivors to group up and make their location known to you so you can put your new and improved chainsaw to work. What about that?

Wow. That is a lot in one ability.

Let's just get through the next patch in map size before we look at gen-speeds again.

What do you think about my idea? Sorry if it's unoriginal, I just needed a way for him to slow gens down. Mobility is definitely out of the picture.

Well, Mangled is already applied by one of his add-ons. It also won't stop people who don't use Iron Will (such as me!) from healing. It'll add a slight delay and probably add frustration.

Broken is just no. Too strong for such an easy ability to down with.

I still think they could do something for bubba that makes him different than billy but makes him a little stronger

And that second last word was kinda the point. A LITTLE better. I've tried to see how Bubba could be viable with a base kit, but I can't.

He has lethality, but that's it. No map pressure, no tracking, terrible for the Emblems in terms of ranking with people relying on the instant-down.

Can't give him a mobility option, because then he's Hillbilly with a re-skin and you have to pay actual money for him. Can't take away his saw, because that is his entire identity except for his mask.

I dunno. If he ever reaches the status of mediocre, it'll be the equivelant of the Doctor rework.

  • Clown has potential and can be saved. Dunno how, but they could by removing all his slowdown effects, as in reloading and throwing or any others he has.

Bubba is gonna be permanently trapped in a bad spot becase he has to be different from Hillbilly.

No, stop blaming killers because the rest of your team sucks. We shouldnt have to keep getting nerfed into the ground because too many victims are boosted. Make it so actually good survivors get to the ranks so they cleanse bones conserve resources and simply play well.

Its not the games design, its your team. You did more than was needed for 1 survivor. If you did 3-4 bones then your team didnt even bother to do one. Dont blame the perk, blame your team mates.

Oh, believe me, I blame my team. But, much like the excuse of "I payed money, I can play how I want", there are so many things wrong with that excuse.

Point was that the excuse of "Do bones" shouldn't be a go-to defence of this terribly designed perk because I do what I'm meant to but my team don't, and I am nearly always the one to get punished. I am not even exaggerating.

  • Huntress/David King chapter is free, so just get that.

Halloween is also one of the best with Laurie having Decisive Strike and Myers' everything.

No real standout survivor perks, though. Most of the commonly used ones are base game.

Also depends on if you're a PC/Console player because we get Doc/Fen and Nea/Hag for free! And by "we" I mean console. Get Spark of Madness if you're on PC because Doctor is great, plus haa the perk Monitor & Abuse and Feng Min has Lithe.

But the reason why i bought laurie was for the OLD DS. It's an anti tunneling perk now which isn't my playstyle.... I like to loop killers while others gen rush and DS helps with that.

Ok, but do you even play Killer?

If the answer is no, then my question is why buy a whole DLC? Why not just the Auric Cells for Laurie or wait for DS to be in the Shrine?

I had something in there for all of your points.

  • @Ivaldi said:

So you want a slower Infinite Tier 3 Myers? Billy? Bubba?

Yeah. Permanent Tier-III Myers is a perfect example.

But a 115% killer and vaults slightly faster. Still super painful even though it takes ages to build up to.

  • Ummmmmmmm.

Legion's Feral Frenzy is a NON-LETHAL power, unless you let it be.

DS is still good. Killers just know how to work around it. It's also now more of an anti-tunnelling perk, rather than a free wiggle out.

The Shape's perks are some of the best in the game, if used correctly. And he is considered a very strong stealth killer.

  • But we already have Hillbilly/Leatherface, and they're 115% killers.

Anyway, good to see you're still around Professor. Haven't heard from you in a while.

  • Well, rank reset just occured and matchmaking has been kinda sloppy for a while now you're either going to eat the rainbow or come across a small blue village for a week or so.

  • Ummmmm. No there isn't yet. Not unless @Peanits can confirm.

Her Dash definitely shouldn't be a one shot. But it needs some form of improvement for it to be reasonable to use. The intended purpose of that Dash is to get that first sneaky hit. I'm aware you can mind game with ambush but that is very dependent on what loop you're at and it's typically not a good one. If Survivors hear me roaring the milisecond I begin charging that Dash meter, it defeats the purpose of that ambush dash. I'd be happy if she didn't start roaring until halfway through that meter. Or increased crouch speed/better viewing angle. Just something to make the other half of her power viable for gameplay.

Increase the charging speed slightly, kinda like John's Medical File base or maybe Video Tape. Move the roar back to the start of the dash, like it was on her release. Maybe reduce her TR back to 28m, again like on release.

Most of what Pig needs are literally minor number buffs to everything except her RBT's and she'd be a top-tier stealth killer.

  • @ZoneDymo said:

real gamers are dead man, it has become too common, too populair, thus ruined really.

What even defines a "real gamer" in this day and age, though? Obviously not anyone who plays exclusively mobile games, some kid that thinks that Fortnite dancing in public is socially acceptable or anyone who utters the phrase "PC Master Race".

But yeah. Deadzone complaints are justifiable, especially with killers like Huntress and Deathslinger existing.

  • It's entirely because of hackers and not letting them get infinite BP. I'm not surprised. I'm not thrilled. But I understand it and why it is still in place.

As for the in-game ones, they should possibly be either increased or removed. It's a remnant of an older ranking system, from what I've heard. I've only played with Emblems.

  • Tampered Timer is actually pretty decent, especially when combined with Crate of Gears to massively slow down the RBT. Good thing is as well that I find with the RBT is that most of the time it activates, you've just placed the trap/picking up the survivor. If it was changed to activate when removed from a hook, rather than reduced time, it'd be a pink add-on and used a lot more. Not an unwelcome change to me, though. Her current pinks are kinda underwhelming.

I hate that people can just leave with a RBT on, but it now doesn't activate at Endgame, even though it should but count as an injured survivor for the purpose of the EGC timer.

And no. Just no. Dash is fine. It's like saying "why don't we make Wraith's surprise attack a one-shot?" or instead of Ghostface stalking for a mark, he just one-shots people. Basekit one-shots are already infuriating enough.

    @KingFrost said:

-I'm okay with Trap Timer being set to Gen Completion. This encourages players to leave Gens unfinished when teammates have an RBT on their head.

-Pig needs some serious help with the RBT's. Ruleset 2 should be base. There should also be an additional effect to an unactivated RBT so that her power doesn't become pointless once the last gen is completed.

-Her dash attack is pretty much fine. It's great for saving stacks in STBFL. Speed up her windup a little, and maybe increase her crouch speed a little.

And good god NO. Do NOT make RS2 basekit. You want survivors away from your generators, and anyone who has any game sense will just do a generator and not care about the timer. It is an add-on that subtly hurts Pig more than it does help.

That's the fault of the other Survivor. He made the mistake of making an unsafe unhook. Or both of you made a mistake of staying at the hook too long to likely heal on the spot.

Without going into details that would make this post way too damned long, Survivors need to learn when to save or when NOT to save. DbD is a horror "survival" game and survival sometimes mean leaving someone to their fate so that you make it out if the Killer is hellbent on killing only 1 person at all costs. This then loops back into my first post of Survivors learning how to evade/avoid/loop the Killer.

To sum it all up as short as I can.

If Killers need to learn gameplay skill to do their job well, Survivors should learn some gameplay skill of their own to do theirs.

You can see where I'm coming from though, right? I shouldn't be punished because my teammate is an idiot.

  • It's more that the community needs to think less of a 4k being balance, and that the emblem system is something to balance around too.

Hence why Hillbilly is possibly considered "the centre of balance" and Legion isn't getting any buffs any time soon.

  • @Chewy102 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1216753#Comment_1216753

Now, I might sound to be talking out by backside or being one in general. But playing better should be what first prevents kill rushing instead of a perk.

That hooked Survivor should learn how to better loop or evade the Killer to prevent being tunneled. And the other Survivor/s saving the hooked should learn when it is safe/unsafe to do so, or at least be a distraction to give the hooked a chance to get away.

Perks shouldn't be a replacement for player skill. This goes for both Killer and Survivor, but it does tend to be Survivor perks that give more second chances that have little to no counters and/or warnings. This (from my point of view) does make Survivor players a bit on the side of potato quality more often than not when Survivors have perks that grants them "skill" without needing to learn it.

Ok. So what about those times where you're on a hook in the open, or where the killer waits just long enough to not hit the other guy, and you have all of 2 seconds to make a break for it? In a stroke of normality, you don't have Dead Hard or Sprint Burst, instead opting to take Balanced Landing or Lithe.

    Your only option is DS.

    Call it mutually assured destruction.

    Too bad, I guess.

DS makes me have to play either one of two ways: To play to win, or cater to the survivor rulebook.

Given the fact that generators very often get done in around 5 minutes and I do not play top tier killers most of the time, I do not have time to 12 hook everyone as well as downing them for a minute inbetween those hooks, I choose to play to win.

Besides, 95% of the time, survivors that have DS, will abuse the ######### out of that invulnerability time window. Everyone loves to ######### they were tunneled, while they're healing right under the hook instead of attempting to hide, or will happily do generators 20 seconds later while that DS timer is still ticking, or will happily attempt a save with it up, or will happily run their butt to the exit gates with it still up (even though if you have DS up by the time the exit gates are open you weren't tunneled *the entire game*).

Well, I'm one of those freaks that actually trys to heal up in that time and get away. I also don't play top tier killers much, if ever and I seem to do just fine.

And I've had idiots run at me for an obvious DS play. They were left on the ground bleeding.

  • @DetectiveBingBong said:

See, but it's a fair assumption. Red Ranks should mean you worked hard to get up there and you have some measure of skill, above most other players.

While this is true, there are a lot of instant downs, and with the last that we've heard from the Devs about kill rates (which the game SHOULDN'T be balanced around as much as people think!) then killers don't have that much to worry about. I'd also argue that if you have to rely on something like an Ebony Mori to get a 4k at red ranks, then maybe you don't belong there as a killer.

  • I haven't been in this situation. Just putting it out there.

But it's as PrettyFaceKate said. IF they are dead-set on tunnelling, then they'll eat a DS. I'm still going to run it to try and dissuade some killers from trying to tunnel me.

Also, problem with your statement there @Sairek, what happens when you run an Obsession perk? And what if I'm running DS, not to abuse the perk, but to not get tunnelled?

Choppy, yeah, but a little choppiness can be devastating depending on what killer you are. In the video you can see how I almost missed that Feng. If I tried to shred, I would have missed, but that's only 36 seconds of the match.

I doubt it is my router or ps4 given I've had this problem pretty regularly, even after resetting my router as well as not playing anything for a couple days. But I still feel optimization needs to be a pretty high priority, especially due to how god aweful matches can be because of it. Deathslinger when aiming down sites, Doctor when static blast is ready, bloodlust activating, and of course GF and Demo. And I know I'm not the only one since all my friends claim the the same lag problems.

Lastly, I apologize if it came off as me "attacking" the devs, I just came off of a heated match as Deathslinger because I was having lag problems with him.

This might be a PS problem then, because I haven't noticed any of these problems on Xbox. One thing that might also help is doing what is known on Xbox as a "hard reset". I haven't had a Playstation since the PS2, aka the best console ever, so I can't help you with the technicals. If it's a lag issue, then it might be a server-side issue since Xbox just got our servers back.

Only other thing I can think of is just a general increase within internet activity because of COVID-19.

Inner Strength gives a free 8-second heal per totem

If ToTH is active(admittefly uncommon), you make cleansing future totems quicker

You can even leave one totem alone so you KNOW NOED will be there

Not to mention progress in the Objective emblem catagory.

I feel the same way about people who only play one side, with a rare exception or two.

As a whole, the player base needs to start considering and playing BOTH sides before we can start complaining about issues like perk/power balance, tunnelling, camping, items and add-ons.

That and my literal first game I was facecamped out of the game within the first minute. Probably has something to do with my opinions on the matter.

That "matter of time" has been lasting for 4 years now. IMO, Let players play how they want

If these things are getting so frustrating it's a sign you need a break or at least deal back on the number of games you play

This game is only frustrating if you allow it to build up

The act itself isn't what I'm largely frustrated over. It's the fact that people can justify it the way that they do.

I understand the whole "I payed for the game, I can play how I want" argument, but it just doesn't hold up when I payed money and I can't play at all. What I'm trying to do is simply remind people that there is a human being on the other side of the screen, and probably has paid as much money as you to play the game and being denied that.

What I'm trying to do is help us improve as a community by hopefully convincing people to use some common sense and mutual respect for each other. If they teabag or toxic flashlight clicky, DS/BT abuse or any of that sort of thing, then they get what's coming to them. But doing it to an innocent who hasn't provoked you in any way? That's just rude.

  • Okaaaaaay, it's a little choppy.

You don't have survivors running in the same spot or literally flying into the sky like others have with Doctor lately. Might need to do something as simple as giving your device or internet router a small break.

No need to yell at the devs about a potentially easy fix. Being civil is also more likely to get things resolved quickly and effectively.

I do and I get run down a lot but I never expect the killer to be nice. Self care, bond, kindred, and opened handed is my current build on Ash. Game is not one on one it's four on one. Even as survivor I play for me then maybe I'll save my team if it is worth the BP but when I unhook always take agro to let others get distant.

I'm not saying to be nice, but be respectful.

Being nice as killer is giving the last guy hatch after a DC within the first minute and slaughtering the survivors with 4 gens left to so. Being respectful as killer is as simple as not tunnelling someone off hook or camping them into oblivion just because easy kill. Small difference.

I don't think there has ever been a shortage of survivors on this game. So I won't expect that to happen anytime soon. The way the game is going right now, the exact opposite is liable to happen.

Also. Your not the only one who paid money for this game. Seeing as you didn't pay for my copy my previous statement stands. Your fun be damned. Vice versa. I didn't pay for your copy so play however you want. The very idea that you should have fun because you paid money for a game everyone else paid for is ludicrous. If I'm losing a match badly I don't expect anyone to go easy on me. I extend you the same courtesy.

Again. It's NOT about me having fun, it's about literally not being able to play the game. I can't play if I just get targeted right off the bat and deleted.

So, your fun be damned too because active campers and tunneller WILL drive players away. Same with obnoxious flashlighters and DS/BT abusers. It's only a matter of time.

It's a good perk, but I do say it could use a rework. Just slightly, to give people a reason to actually cleanse totems.

Well, that's part of the reason I have suggested those two changes. No need for a full rework then.

The only way I find NoED as an acceptable perk in it's current state is as part of a full Endgame build. My changes also don't affect those builds too much.

As a normal perk to slot into a build, it's just dumb.

  • Well, if other people cleansed totems like everyone says they should, then sure.

I've also never called it broken, just badly designed. No warning for the most powerful status effect in the game is only a feature on two perks: NoED and Devour Hope. Devour Hope at least requires you to hook 3 people and run away quickly. It has an activation requirement, unlike NoED's "have a dull totem".

It can also rob some survivors of a well earned escape since it activated in endgame, unlike Rancor that only gives the Obsession Exposed and killable, but this effect is only active after 5 generators powered.

Make it notify when the perk activates, not on first hit and only active after 5 gens complete, then it is more in line with every other perk and is fair for bith sides. Still a VERY strong second chance perk for a struggling killer, but not a spit in the face because my teammates can't carry their own weight.

That way I play like there are no civility or play with survivors rules. In the end killers set the rules and pace of any game.

And it's an attitude like this that will ultimately kill this game. Set the pace, by all means. I'll slow the game to a crawl and bump off survivors when I get bored or just kill them if they try and push me.

Play some survivor. Learn their struggles. Go up against campers and tunnellers and see how much fun YOU have. It'll also make you a better killer since you know how they think.

That's also for the OP here. Play some survivor and you'll know what you want to have fun. I like a stealthy "Strike and Fade" approach when playing Pig if the game allows for it.
