First of all, thank you for all the comments - it's been a huge help. I've finally had time to go through them all, and I have some clarifying questions for some people. Some of these may sound rather pedantic, but I'm genuinely just trying to understand your ideas better.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1253588#Comment_1253588
Which second chance perks specifically do you avoid as survivor? Why do you assume that Nancys and Bills in particular are likely to be a detriment to the team?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1253676#Comment_1253676
You say that you like to do totems as survivor if the gens are going too fast. Is that a tactical move in case of NOED (since if gens are getting done fast, it's likely no one else has bothered with totems), or a kindness to the killer, or a combination of both?
You teabag killers who camped and tunnelled, but don't want survivors to teabag you if you had a bad game. What if a killer camped and/or tunnelled because they were struggling? Do you consider it acceptable as a killer for a survivor to teabag you if you camped or tunnelled them? (I'm not attacking or judging you, just trying to understand your point of view.)
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1253697#Comment_1253697
Can you elaborate on what you mean about being toxic with perks? Are there particular perks that you will never use, or that you will only use in specific scenarios?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1254245#Comment_1254245
What would you define as "abusing" DS?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1254361#Comment_1254361
Do you ever use killers that have an insta-down built into their power? If so, do you use that power?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1254625#Comment_1254625
By "farmers", do you mean survivors who rescue teammates near you, or survivors who are trying to farm for bloodpoints?
If you don't use the Tombstone Piece, does that mean you also won't use Judith's Tombstone, or is that an exception for some reason?
What do you consider "accepting" a boop? Do you let the survivor escape, or do you only let them live until you see them again?
Do your survivor rules apply only to yourself as a survivor, or are those expectations that you have of the survivors when you play killer as well?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1254890#Comment_1254890
Do your survivor rules apply equally to other survivors, or are they purely self-imposed?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1258641#Comment_1258641
Do you avoid Haddonfield and Ormond offerings out of respect for the killer, or because you personally just don't like playing on those maps?
What do I define as abusing DS? Well, I tend to stick with the common consensus of it as in doing REALLY stupid actions in a killer's face because you have DS active. This includes unhooking in my face, blatantly working on a generator or even something more subtle like teabagging at me when I found you healing someone.
Basically acting like you have immunity to the killer because of a mildly inconvenient 5 second stun. Most killer's DON'T run Obsession perks, and half of them are negative to you.
-
Just because it isn't 100% anti-tunnelling doesn't mean that it isn't an anti-tunnel perk. I use it as an anti-tunnelling perk, and only an anti-tunnelling perk. Since I'm also one of those weirdos who doesn't actually like to remain injured, it's a good way for me to get a timer set to heal up.
So it's all in the application.
-
It all depends in your personal playstyle.
Legion is a more reactive killer, where as Trapper is active.
And what I mean by that is Legion can just react to seeing survivors wherever they are and is more suited to a player who thinks on their feet and adapt on the fly.
Trapper kn the other hand, relies more on preparation and planning with setting up your traps and keeping them open all the time, as well as trying to force survivors onto them.
-
It's a joke.

Yeah, I don't see why they would be bannable. If people can leave the game for 6 months and have fully upgraded level 3 meta builds, then me making a second account so my rank 20 mates never verse MY killers is kind of reasonable. And I even specifically go with underpowered perks because of it.

I suppose if you're worried about people farming as killer then you could slightly reduce the BP from quick matches (or increase the BP from ranked) as for try-hards well that's simply a part of playing a game, some people simply want to improve in a stress-free environment and it's not like you'll find less try-hards in ranked.
Oh. I'M not worried about farmers! They're great for me, since I'm now an Archivist. I actually have half a chance to get them done against farming killers.
-
Yeah, killers are tunnelling less now that heaps of people HAVE run the perk and they're probably doing better overall as a result. Or getting called out less on their scummy behaviour and are doing just as well.
I've never had a problem with DS when I play killer, but I'm a bit unique in how I play. Last time I ate one was a test to see if they had it, and somebody had OoO so eating it made their perk weaker. I would have dropped her if she didn't though.
-
It'd be the same as it currently is, but there wouldn't be a need to rank up. You'd get a lot more farming killers or full try-hards trying out a sweat build.
If you've ever played Rainbow Six: Siege, then basically it's how their Quickplay mode (formerly Casual) goes. I team up with 4 other mates, and we get shoved against 3 Diamonds when most of us are Gold. We're basically a bunch of Greens going against Reds at that point. Not every game, but we can tell pretty quickly when that happens.
-
@Bovinity said:
Legion can be a ton of fun, but the power ultimately ends up feeling a bit like a pubstomper.
If a SWF group refuses to separate, or a pug group doesn't "get it", then they get punished extremely hard.
But if people just separate, or on certain maps, it feels like they're just reduced to being a M1 killer with no real power who will just keep stunning themselves.
That might also just mean that I need to git gud, though.
It is strongest in 2 situations: The beginning of the game, when survivors don't know who you are and in a 3-gen. Closed in maps like The Game can help, if you know how to traverse it.
But, yeah. It's not really an ability you can capitalise on to do well in high ranks that easily. Even still, hitting ONE person and dashing off is still fine, especially if they stop healing eventually.

Wait!?
I have to read more!?
❤️
Hillbilly - too easy to use for such a strong killer (talking about the average player, obviously.)
Lots of hate on that one. Lot's of "Buh high level gameplay" when that's not what I was talking about. Basically 1 hour in Hillbilly is worth about 8 in Spirit or 20 in Nurse.
Clown - strong power, but too easily counterable and lots of drawbacks. Survivors learnt how to beat him, and that was it.
-
Did you ever consider that stagnation leads to boredom? Maybe we DON'T use the "meta" build because that is boring and we like a bit of excitement.
It is exciting for killers to get flamed for being total scumbags after tunnelling, camping and being genuinely horrible because you can?
Why should I have to forfeit MY perk slots because YOU don't want to actually play the game?
Yes these perks do exist for these reasons, but they shouldn't HAVE TO, let alone become the most optimal choices to run. Killers brought the current meta on themselves. They have nobody else to blame. I'm just glad that my personal playstyle doesn't allow for such behaviour, and never gets completely flamed, ridiculed or disparaged as a result of it.
I for one also hate one-use perks, and prefer general consistency and permanent use. Part of the reason I still run Self-Care over Inner Strength. That and I already had Claudette levelled up long before Nancy was released.
-
HAHAHAHAHAHA. Four. I do NOT play this game for Rift!
Surv 4/Kill 10 anyway.
-
Okaaaaaaaaaay. So what then happens to the person possessed by Valak? Even though I don't recall her ever possessing someone in the Conjuring movies. And, no, I haven't got around to seeing The Nun yet. I have other things to catch up on. Do they just become passive viewers as you roam around in their body? Or is there some kind of struggle feature to try and exorcise Valak?
There are so many questions that come from a power such as this.
The Warrens would be cool Survivors to have in the game though.
-
Did I do a TL:DR in the last two? I can't remember.

iri head takes skill, and its not like its an overwhelming thing unlike doctor shape and nightmare's playstyles. people always say that in rebuttal to people disagreeing with shape's ultra-rare's, the thing is though whether you avoid it or not youre going to get stalked or a fraction of stalked by him regardless even in chases and its not uncommon that games are entirely wrecked when its activated. He shouldnt be able to just pick you up and kill you at the beginning of a game where it wastes everyone's time including the killer's and no one get's points or pips.
Umm. Disagree. Much like a Hillbilly, I can just wait until I'm rubbing up against you for an instant-down with zero skill requirement.
I hate Myers' pink add-ons, but the level of stalking required is ridiculous. I just really hate how Tombstone can one-shot KILL me after a nanosecond of stalking. Make there be a stalking milestone before kill and I'll be fine with that.
As for your points with Doctor, he was only super strong at the lower ranks. Where people don't know how to beat him. Yes, Iri King and Queen are annoying to go against (especially TOGETHER), but he is very counterable. He literally waves his hand before the Shock effect has time to take effect, and Madness 3 is quicker to go away than Deep Wounds.
He is the strongest NON-MOBILITY killer in the game because of his excellent tracking. He is also what is known as a Pressure killer meaning that you're always meant to feel his presence. Just watch his hand and throw a pallet or vault early. Problem solved. At the end of the day, he's a basic killer with a basic attack, zero mobility options and can be looped for days IF you know what you're doing. Practice. We all had to do it.

I've only found out about him recently. They both do share similar features.

I knew her lullaby was Russian but never actually bothered to what it meant. That would be scary to think that as a child.
Not really that scary. But then again, I'm an Australian and have had a Redback Spider (Black Widow for all the Americans out there) fight a Sydney Funnel Web and win, so you stop being scared of most things after that.

If I remember correctly she was inspired by a Russian urban legend instead, which is what her lullaby is based off of. Both the lullaby in the myth and her lullaby are the same, just obviously different people singing it.
Her lullaby is an actual Russian lullaby named Bayu Bayushki Bayu. It's a folk lullaby warning kids not to sleep with their limbs hanging over the edge of their beds or wolves will come and get them. Pleasant, huh!

The difference between NoED and Blood Warden is that one both has an activation requirement and has actual counterplay.
If I ever see a Blood Warden
It's different to NoED robbing me from a well deserved escape, especially when I have done 2-4 bones and the other idiots on my team have literally just gotten me killed because of their general incompetence and the killer can't actually win a chase.

And it's not even used for that. The number of discussions regarding the broken matchmaking is testimony to that.
From what I've heard, that's because of lobby-jumpers lately. They leave and it expands the brackets of what's acceptable.
Not to mention that I've had games with all Greens that were harder than Reds and Purple one game, then playing like all Brown ranks the next. It's not even that Matchmaking is broken lately, the playerbase is as random as some of the ranks you're paired with.
-
Nurse's pink add-ons are not THAT bad. They don't severely limit your power and actively sabotage you to the same level that Pig's do.
No matter what anyone says either, Nurse literally ignores the map so she'll always be the strongest. Spirit's strength doesn't come from any sort of mechanical skill, though. It comes from people not being able to tell anything. As for Billy, firstly he is SO ANNOYING to go against since just about everyone considers his chainsaw his primary weapon, but yes. He is really strong. He permanently has soft destruction, high mobility and an instant-down tied into a small charge timer and small "cooldown".
-
I have Killer archives to do, and I don't care about tier lists or my brothers saying that "Ghostface is a better Pig! Just play Ghostface!", but Pig is just really REALLY fun. Yeah, Ghostface is more lethal but does he have Pig's stall potential?
I've never had a feeling like landing the perfectly tipped Dash attack and downing a particularly annoying survivor while playing survivor. But with the matchmaking rainbow and even then the pot luck of the survivors anyway, some games I'll get an easy demolish against reds/purples or I'll struggle to hold my own against people "my own rank" at green. Those matches are just extremely frustrating so after one of those, people will either stop and take a break or do something obnoxious like Ebony Mori tunnel.
-
I drink and I paint Warhammer 40k miniatures.
I've been playing Warhammer for something like 10 years, and have heaps of models to paint so I generally do that outside while there's daylight and come in and play DbD a bit before I go to bed.
And for anyone wondering: Necrons, Chaos Space Marines, Chaos Daemons, Death Guard, Thousand Sons, Chaos Knights, Harlequins and Tau. I do not have a problem, I swear. Just because the minimum points that I can play is 28,000 and climbing does not mean anything.

Yeah, uh. Which one?
You'll be looking for Reaper Andross, Silent Sausag or MidKnight#4342
I'll be on a bit later and usually play pretty late. Reaper is my main account, and the other two are just because I had issues syncing up my 360 account to a Microsoft account and I didn't want to leave them there. And I have other people who occasionally play, but they're ranks 19/20.
-
Depending on your rank, you do technically need perks in order to cover up some of the fact that you're learning her. If you're on Xbox, I can also help you practice and I need to learn her too.
But yes. Totally worth learning. The most balanced killer in the game and one of the most unique by FAR.
-
*Realms.
Autohaven has different layouts such as Azarov's Resting Place with the I----I shape, and there's more traditional maps like the one with the gas station at the back.
Same goes for Coldwind Farm with maps like the Thompson House and Fractured Cowshed.
Even if you only get variations of those two realms it's still more than 2 maps.

Maybe survivors shouldn't just prioritize the light bringer and unbroken ones. Get in some chases, mind game the killer, heal people up. Get some emblems, some points, better for everyone
Well, yeah. That's why you never tunnel and force them around the map. If I dash I to a recently unhooked person with Nurse's, rather than their healer, I slug them. More Malicious/Chaser for you, since it's a hit, down and some bleeding and they just so happen to get Benevolence if they aren't idiots. Some times you can force their hand as killer, and tunnelling forces them onto generators since at least 2 of them are safe.
It may be because I mainly play Pig, and have more of a "Gen-Protector" build or playstyle, but having my main objective as protecting generators rather than killing survivors has actually helped me massively. If survivors can't do a generator, they can't escape!
Some of us also aren't god-loopers, so we have to find other means such as stealth which isn't viable with some of the skins in the game. My current build has Kate with her biker outfit and dark basic hair. I like the look of it, but it is also darker and easier to hide with. And Q&Q, Lithe and Dance with Me. I can hold my own in a chase, but I need to escape some time and heal in others.

Because if DS is the same as going after a healthy survivor, just go after them anyway to put them back on hook so they die sooner. It is the killers objective after all
IS IT THOUGH?
Why must we cling to this outdated ideology that kills are a killer's sole objective?
Is it not more fun to simply enjoy the hunt and inflict pain onto others? To stall out and control the flow of the game? To REVEL in the gleeful anarchy of tormenting your victims and making them beg for a merciful end?
What I'm saying is extend the game and get some emblems. It's better for everyone and way more fun.
-
Basically it comes down to treating others as equals until they prove otherwise.
I hate it when people flashlight me at a pallet, attempt to abuse DS (especially annoying considering my generosity and playstyle!) and teabag endlessly. I play Pig because I like her, not to meme.
I also never do these things to a killer, so I expect that they won't camp or tunnel me as a sign of respect.
The only rule I really break is "no slugging", but I only slug one person at a time in the mid-game unless they do something stupid like have 4 people swarm the same generator at the same time, yes that has happened and 2-3 of them ate dirt for a good 2 minutes. I'm actually somewhat tactical about it and I'll leave you on the ground if you have an RBT or got unhooked recently as to give you a chance and apply pressure to the rest of the team.
-
You seem to be a PC player, but I'll try to word this the best I can as a console player.
Billy's turning is tied to his camera, or at least it is for me. You are locked into looking forward, and use the camera to steer. Oni can sidestep somewhat with movement keys, but Hillbilly can't.

Whispers is pretty great on Doctor since you always know when you’ll get value from Static Blast. It’s also good on Trapper for knowing when you may be being watched settings traps. Also on stealth killers like Pig/Ghostface/Myers, you can get an easy early-game chase/stalk by using it to narrow down where the survivors spawned without wasting time slowly looking for people. It’s also great in the end game for knowing which door someone is at.
Yeah, I don't rate it on Pig but I also don't do the Whispers/Monitor strat to get closer with crouch. I just crouch walk a lot.
As for Doctor, it's indeed true. Good for knowing when to pop Static Blast. Not one of his best perks, but certainly a good one if you don't have all the top perks for him.

If I'm running instead of healing you, you should probably be running too cause Spine Chill just lit up.
As a Spine Chill user, myself, I do actually understand that one. I may not play that build much if ever any more, but I understand why someone runs.
And unless they're a stealth killer, then I should be able to hear a TR soon after so I can assume it was Spine Chill.
Main point was that there are those who run away from a perfectly safe unhook/heal situation and don't heal, leaving me to heal myself. Or a killer has returned quickly before and I'm moving away to avoid them and they run in a different direction.

Well, I've cheated a bit and based my reply on other posts that I have read from this person. I just gave them advice that I thought might be useful.
I'm aware what I said doesn't address what they complained about in their post (i.e. depipping) directly, but it's just so difficult to take complaints about rank seriously..
Yeah, I tend to ignore any history that I have with someone on here, and just go post-by-post. I might see someone's name I know and have had problems with and think "Oh, god. Not this guy again. Here we go!" but sometimes you find a post that you agree with from them.
-
Never. Unless they run at me with a flashlight or something similarly stupid.
If they get a hatch escape, then fine. They earned it. I basically got a 4k then anyway. And with my personal playstyle, I probably got Merciless anyway.
I'll slug tactically in game, especially someone with an RBT or who got unhooked 30 seconds earlier. Not to avoid DS, but because they're generally not my target and it's like giving them a second chance.
-
Surveillance. It's so useful and NOBODY expects it!
I mean, yes everybody talked about combining it with the reworked Ruin, but I've been using it since I started playing killer. It's such an underrated perk and fantastic on stealth killers. I find that the main goal for me is not to just kill all of the survivors, but to actually protect the generators. This perk gives me tracking because they touched my gen, and tells me which generator I need to possibly kick next. "Possibly" as in "is my Ruin still active". You could also easily combine it with Pop Goes the Weasel.
It was also fun in lower ranks with Overcharge on Doctor. Easy detection.
They never see it coming.

It's not balanced yet, since the killer community still lowers and soloQ is the nightmare.
He's right though. Most killers on here seem to just want an easy 4k. The game is balanced around a statistical 2/2 scenario, possibly with some of the Emblem system sprinkled in there.
Maybe you need to switch up which killer you're playing and find something new to do. I personally find great enjoyment in playing Pig and just trying to spread damage and stall the game out for as long as I can.
And while it would be nice to see the Killer become more of a power role, and balanced around 3k/1 escape more, I can see why keeping it the way they do is fine.

Probably from the same Survivor who used Adrenaline, Borrowed and DS and calls NOED toxic. We all get "facecamped", again Insidious is a perk and there to be used. PErks can not be toxic, there is a counter to everything.
Never. Only ran DS to actually stop being tunnelled. And I don't call NoED toxic, I call it a badly designed perk and have highlighted how. This isn't even about perks, though. This is about people using the scummiest tactic in the game to get easy kills because they can't be bothered to put in half an effort.
And if you MUST know, here's the 3 perk builds I've been bouncing between since the Stranger Things chapter. I did start the later two after Cursed Legacy, but I played the first one before that.
Claudette - Self-Care, Bond, Spine Chill, Sprint Burst
Yui - Self-Care, Botany Knowledge, Balanced Landing, Decisive Strike
Kate - Lithe, Dance with Me, Quick and Quiet, Self-Care
Don't just assume anything about anyone. I play both sides, I know what I'm doing and I hate one-use only perks.
-
What isn't toxic about literally telling someone that they cannot play the game just because you don't feel like playing? How is it OK to just ruin someone's experience and potentially make them quit because you are a terrible person? Before you make a stupid post saying something like this, add some damn reasoning.
I was literally facecamped out of my first game in Dead by Daylight and my first thought was "Why did I buy this game again?" because of it. If that is what you want, then please keep ruining the game for people and sacrificing your rank in the process.
-
@Kate_Main_01 said:
These were funny! What makes Yui and Zarina seem like show offs? Is it just the frequency in which you see them after release? I notice a spike in any new Killer or Survivor but have always thought that was just to get their perks to the teachable status. I never see Yui on PS4 but I do see a lot of Zarinas.
In my experience...
Pig - you nailed that! Especially with the latter part, Pigs seem to be extremely good at being oppressive and applying pressure the moment you get on a gen.
Jake - probably one of the most diverse looking characters I see. Wannabe boy model? Biker? Hobo? You never know what you're going to get. My personal experiences with Jakes haven't gone one way or another for me to have a stereotype for him. I wonder if the reason they are sabo'ing hooks is for the challenges, I used to do that before I got his teachable on just about everyone else.
That was one of my brother's ideas. It tends to be a trend where a new survivor comes out and HEAPS of people use them, only to drop them when the new one comes out.
Beginner Pigs tend to focus on the trapped survivors as they are usually injured and focused on getting to one of 4 points on the map, that BOTH players can see. They then have this epiphany that maybe I should be targeting every one else since I know where that one will be.
As for Jakes, it's something that I've noticed a lot and while they usually have a diversity in cosmetics, they usually play the same way.
-
Wow. I break every stereotype here.
And here's some new ones for you:
Pig - Will either tunnel you off hook if you're marked by a Reverse Bear Trap, or is a 5000 IQ game mastermind that will ensure that it feels like there are only ever two players on the map. And she's one of them.
Jake - Gonna sabotage every hook they see, or teabag and click a flashlight whenever they see the killer. Probably a Monto fan who thinks that they're better than they really are.
Hillbilly - Relies on only getting one hit per chase, but it happens to be an instant-down. Thinks that a 4k is a true sign of a killer, but will immediately complain about getting "Brutal Killer" after only using their saw.
Legion - I hit red ranks with a 20% sacrifice rank, but still get Relentless killer every game. Why don't survivors go down when I stab them repeatedly?
Yui - Look at me everybody! I bought the new DLC!
Zarina - Look at me everybody! I bought the NEW new DLC!

It'd be nice to have her appear more often though, and with the way that the cameras for Hillbilly and Wraith are, maybe we'll get some roster changes on console.

I've always felt like there should be more incentive to break bones than just to disable NOED or activate Inner Strength. Some kind of mechanic where, the more totems that are destroyed, the more powerful the survivors get in some way. Something that makes survivors want to look for and cleanse totems to improve their odds for escaping.
Well, there is the progress of gaining points into the Objective category and bonus Bloodpoints, but some people don't care enough about that.

Survivor is too easy and people rank up fast. I'm garbage as survivor at chases and almost hit red ranks last month. A lot of players get boosted by gen speed
Well, maybe for some. I'm not exactly fantastic at a chase, but I ran around a baby Legion (My Rank 6 vs. their Rank 15 and ZERO use of FF) and how many generators got done? Zero. One after I went off and healed. I've had WHOLE GAMES go quicker than that chase sequence!
Survivor's emblems are all intertwined, though. Rescue of a hook and heal them (Benevolence), so that they can then help you on a generator (gatekeeper) or use them as a distraction/distract the killer yourself so the gen gets done (Evader/Gatekeeper distraction bonus) and Silver Survival is basically guaranteed unless the killer hardcore camps/tunnels or first hook suicide.
Killer has to balance their emblems, between protecting generators, chases, damage, hooks and there are playstyles that do just manage everything, but there are some killers who do actually struggle greatly with this. Myers is a great example of this, with his limited mobility and built in instant-down. Harder to patrol generators, and instant-downs hurt Chaser.
I agree that Survivors are easier to rank up with, but it's by no means an easy game mode.

I hate NoED, but I can understand it on Trapper, and Dwight made the stupid play by going off to the basement IN YOUR FACE and deserved everything he got. There is nothing wrong with using perks to help you win, but it is all in how they are used.
Admittedly I'd be flaming my teammates for not cleansing totems in that situation, since I normally get at least 2 totems, unless they're all really well hidden. Too many times have I been cheated out of an escape because of NoED and my idiot teammates not cleansing totems.
It does seem though that you would have still been guaranteed at least a 2k, since Yui died earlier and you had one in basement in endgame. NoED or not, you would have traded Steve for Dwight and had that kill. If they tried to go back, it could have easily snowballed into a full-on 4k and they would have called you a camper even though they literally ran at you.

I've found a similar thing. I am actually finding it easier to go against reds that greens, and I'm currently a green rank killer! It feels like green ranks are actually doing the objective where as reds are trying to get chased be my ........ me.............. all................... game.
Damn. I just figured it out.
Reds are trying to get emblems, so getting chases and not doing generators that quickly. As a Pig main, I capitalise on that greatly, aince they're off getting the RBT's off. Greens don't care as much and are just doing the objective. Greens are harder to verse because they are doing the objective more.

His tassels were the things making that wooshing sound? I didn't know that!
You're gonna get that on every skin. Like I said, Myers and Pig have their heavy breathing, GF has his tassle noise and Wraith has thunderous footsteps. Think lf it as a small compensation for there being no terror radius. Those sounds are all pretty quiet anyway compared to a lot of other sounds in the game.
