You know what isn't fun? A chainsaw being revved every 5 seconds.
Having a cooldown is also better than the alternative. Trust me, I could think of ways to hurt a killer way more than the cooldown-but-not-really that he's about to get.
Just learn to adapt like everyone else.

Even in the video shown just one normal map roaming sprint costed the billy OVER HALF of his over heat meter.
So from what we have been shown his mobility will be gutted pretty hard if he cant' even do 2 chainsaw sprints without overheating.
From what we've heard, it won't matter mid-sprint and you *GASP* use your hammer instead! But noooooo, why should I use my WEAPON like every other killer, especially when half the perks in the game are related to it?
FFS, can we all wait until the PTB before making any snap-judgements? Please?

You have to let ppl run away...part of the rule book.
If it is, then I didn't read that part. The only "rules" that I adhere to are against tunnelling and camping because I have been on the receiving end of them too many times myself.
And hooks are a vital part of pipping, more than kills. My challenge is no deliberate kills, try to rank as high as I can.

i'm hooking all 4 survivors and letting them escape. I'm am not progressing after rank 14.
I generally don't let people run away. I have however, planned on streaming killer to see how far I can rank up without deliberately killing anyone.
Probably going to play Legion for that one though.
It should be theoretically possible to do quite well with zero/minimal kills.
-
Depends on the killer, and unlike @The_Bootie_Gorgon I do just fine with letting survivors have a turn at playing the game. Easy Relentless for majority of my games.
Then again, two of my top 3 most played are Pig and Legion, who I also specialise in slowing down the game.
The secret here is that if you let them heal up a slugged target, then you get more emblems for hitting, chasing and gatekeeper.

Here's the thing though, as I mentioned earlier, revving the chainsaw was a great way to mindgame loops, with the better player coming out on top. With the example you mentioned (with the billy revving around the loop), that billy would most likely lose regardless of the nerf.
Dead by Daylight has always pushed away new players due to its inability to effectively teach all of the game's deeper mechanics (such as learning and being weary about specific perks in game), and this change only worsens that issue, as now not only are the bad players being punished for trying to learn, but the good players can no longer use the chainsaw like they used to.
Chainsaw mindgames are still going to be a thing, but they just can't happen for as long as before. Having to actually commit to using it, rather than hold 99 for ages was always one of the biggest complaints I've had with the saw, especially since all the killers I play normally loose ALL of their power charge if I let go of it.
I don't see this as being a huge problem, even for newer players. If anything, it will lure more of them towards using his hammer as a weapon.
Maybe I have too much hatred for Billy, but I also come from Xbox, and versed nothing but Hillbillies as soon as I hit purple back on old Ruin. 95% of my games were Hillbilly, 4% were Myers. He was our equivelant of Nurse or Spirit and was honestly WAY easier to pick up and do well with.
Anyway, at least I'm able to have a civil conversation about this with you, unlike the vast majority of the Hillbilly fanbase.

You needed the green addon to do good with billy play him whitout any addon and the only thing he have is mobility in a straight line and sometime you can get an unexpected down. Personally the nerf should have is changing the rarerity on some addon that all
Maybe on PC at the higher ranks, but lately I've hung around mid-ranks because I don't really care for rank any more, but hate noobstomping and don't really use add-ons.

This nerf will definetly punish good Billys, when you hold the revs without starting the sprint trying to curve, the chainsaw overheats way too fast.
I'm not going to be able to test this for months, being a console player. But I also hate Hillbilly playing as and against, so I probably won't go back to him anyway. Still going to say let's just wait for the PTB though.
They did change Ghostface on there after player feedback suggested he was way too weak.
-
I agree with the whole nerf/buff debate and there is a point to be made about his mindgames, but there is also something that I would like to add with that: It stops people for EXCESSIVE revving. If you start it up to force someone to take a vault or possibly a saw, then that's fine. It's a smart move. My issue is when people hold it for a full minute and walk around parading it like a child with a sports trophy.
The main thing about this "nerf" is that it will only punish bad Hillbillies, not all Hillbillies, which was also the case with Nurse.

Do you play hillbilly or trapper at all?
Trapper? I did heaps for the Archives for him, but some of the later killer challenges are an absolute pain. Such as sacrifice 4 people in the basement.
Hillbilly? Not heaps, but enough to know what I'm talking about. Tried him out to see what all they hype was over, got destroyed in my first game as him then dominated almost every single other match. One thing to consider as well is that I am actually a console player, and steering with Hillbilly is way easier with thumbsticks, as I only have to move the camera to the side to steer. No flicks, but considering I'd dropped killer rank to focus on Survivor Archives a few resets before starting him.
Lately, I've gone back to my core three of Pig, Doctor and Legion with some Executioner on the side. I find them fun and I can be effective with them, or just get heaps of bloodpoints.

I don't know anyone that really takes this into account when picking a survivor though. Maybe that's just my friend group
It's why the Blendette exists. She is darker skinned and smaller. Generally speaking, nobody else is taken into account for that sort of thing by a majority of the playerbase, but it is something that people should consider.
-
Well, you didn't touch generators but Distraction would have given you some of that. Bronze or Silver Survival for time, since you're limited to Silver max when you die. No Altruism because nobody was able to unhook or heal. Good chaser depending on the amount of time.
But yeah, that Altruism and Survival emblems would have killed it for you.
All because Bubba got salty.

There is more to picking a survivor than just their teachables or them being a skin. Each character has their own volume for their screams, and their physical size does also matter for visual detection.
Female characters are physically smaller but have louder cries of pain, while male characters are physically larger but have quieter grunts of pain.

I'm going to be honest, even with mostly playing survivor i think most if not all of what you said is crap to put it bluntly. Hillbilly DOES require skill or else he will just be bullied for 5 gens or he will turn into an M1 killer. Trapper requires little to no skill which is why he is the game's cover art. Trapper puts traps at pallets, windows, and grass. THE END. The only thing i agree with is the fact that survivors are pretty much on their own. Lower ranks tend to be easier aside from the camping and higher ranks are harder because people know what their doing.
I never said that he requires zero skill, but that he requires LITTLE skill. There is a difference. He also requires way less skill than other top-tier killers to pick up, that's for sure.
There is also a difference between mechanical skill and map knowledge. The skill of Trapper is knowing where to place traps, and in lower ranks that's anywhere.
-
It will help stop people from holding their chainsaws as using that as their weapon over the hammer. I can't tell you how many times someone has held their chainsaw and made the chase go on for about 3 times as long just for a chainsaw hit, and it honestly sucks to go against.
That and it will help prevent campers for sure.
-
Depends on context and personal perspective.
I personally see face-camping and hardcore tunnelling to be the height of killer toxicity, but they're allowed and even encouraged by some people.
But I guess that a richard relocation and full on toxicity are different things.
-
The only one I see being commonly used is Internal Disorder and it does look like an old Ruin replacement.
I also don't see survivors utilising the 200% bonus at all as they're more likely to just go for the hatch. The 110% will annoy a lot of killers when it helps clutch out a match, especially with perks like Resilience being a thing.
Survivors are going to complain about it a lot, especially in the lower ranks as generators there take forever.

Pure BS.
You can't say that being able to tell 3 other peopel where the Killer is, up to the second, is '0 effect;.
You can't say that being able to tell your friends where hag traps, bear traps, and other things are is '0 effect'
You can't say that warning your friend the Killer is headed his way 10 seconds before he hears the hearbeat, and thus hides earlier, and thus is unseen, is '0 effect'.
Voice comms are pure cheating BS.ANyone who says they don't affect the game is either VERY ignorant of what it does to the game, or making up lies to avoid admitting they are cheating.
And again. MECHANICAL SKILL. I also have to turn my party chat volume down to near zero so i can hear the damn game over others! If I can't run a killer, then SWF comms won't matter that much.
Calm down, or stop insulting people. Part of the reason people use SWF is because of certain killers and their playstyles.
I've even started streaming my matches from time to time and it's harder for me to commentate what I'm doing and have fun with it. I need to concentrate when playing survivor and SWF hinders that.

If you as the killer view the game as a 1v1 youve already lost
I'm not saying that this game is 1v1, but that there are moments that are. Killers like Nurse and Deathslinger are more about these 1v1 moments, as they rely on ending a chase quickly, where as Trapper and Hag are more about map management.
Pig has elements of both.
THAT is what I mean by the 1v1.
-
Camping and tunnellig are legal. Having comms to say "yeah, leave me this guy is not going to leave" is the counter to that. It also has 0 effect on the actual chase and the skils involved.
If anything I do WORSE in SWF with comms.
-
It's not that all killers need to be high skill, it's just that they should be REALITVE TO THEIR EFFECT, and Hillbilly had abserd mobility, map pressure and an easy to use instant down. He was TOO EASY to pick up and play for what he had.
Trapper? Yeah, he's more of a knowledge based killer as in where you place your traps and what-not, but he's easy to play mechanically and those who are fantastic with him, such as Otz, are very skilled mentally for this game but it isn't required.
Survivors also have zero handholding. Devs even say that just deleting them is perfectly OK, and they have to work out everything themselves while also managing 3 other people. Killers as a whole can care more about the 1v1 than the 4v1 and still do really well, where as survivors can't.
-
People will always have a cry whenever you call Hillbilly a garbage killer, or reasonably point out how flawed his design is.
This is the Ruin rework all over again, in that killers are just refusing to adapt and would rather complain endlessly.
The topic of Hillbilly and Leatherface have also been around for longer than Keys and Mori's as far as I recall, but keys do actually require survivors to do their objective to a degree, and same with Mori's but both also hamper the ability to rank up unless you get the mythical 4-man hatch.
I've also given my solution to the Mori issue, and that's to make them cancel ranks for that game. I don't know how to solve keys though.
-
I've said that Hillbilly needed something like this for ages. He is also "balanced" in terms of the emblem system, since his chainsaw only gets half the chaser emblem for doing HALF THE WORK, but kills are easier to get because of it.
I'm happy they're doing this and now more Hillbillies will either use their hammer or play a different killer.

I'd actually like to argue this notion.
Killer should be stressful all because you're a mass murderer. You need to micromanage everything possible to ensure things go your way, like you would in real life if you were to kill someone to ensure you're successful and not caught. You only have yourself to rely on, and this should be stressful. Sure, you're a powerhouse, but that doesn't mean you should be so needlessly OP survivors can't do anything against you.
I've seen @PigMainClaudette (at least I think it was them) say something I completely agree with; killers aren't truly killers, they're torturers, and survivors aren't truly survivors, they're victims.
Yah, that was me. Out of all the emblems, 25% of ONE of them rewards kills which means that it is 1/16th, or 6.25% of the killer's total objective mathematically. The rest is hits, downs, hooks, chases and generator damaging. STALLING AND TORTURING.
It does also sound like you are suffering from a case of "burnout", OP. Take some time off and relax. Don't play as much, or let your rank slide over a reset or two.
I'm even considering streaming myself ranking up without killing, or minimal kills just to prove a point.
-
As a Pig main and used to seeing the aura if my boxes, it isn't THAT great if a feature.
Also, if you feel like you're being forced to tunnel for a kill, then maybe that match isn't yours and you have to take an L, or that killer isn't for you.
People have been complaining about PH's tunnelling ability since day 1 on the PTB and how perks like Decisive Strike don't activate from the Cages. This change will certainly help lower the amount of tunnellers, which frankly is needed. It ruins the game for everyone and boosts the stats of killers to the point where they don't get the help they need because the stats say they're fine.

I'm glad we see eye to eye. Have a good one! :)
You shot down NOTHING. You have only tried to insult me and your only "defence" or "counterpoint" is literally the tired all 'Buh, Decisive' or the elitist 'playing since launch'.
So, here's the list to counter since I apparently have to spell it out for you:
- I DID your "direct counter" and it didn't work.
- It's effects to not line up with other perks of similar effects, being hidden Exposed and no killer input.
- The perk rewards you with kills you otherwise wouldn't have earned just for existing
Now for some of the personal attacks
- More than a year is more than enough to be experiences, especially easily holding red ranks for the past 6 months.
- Not all of us have ultra 4k monitors and occasionally miss some details
- PigMainClaudette is in a sense 3 people, as I discuss at length with my two siblings with their own unique playstyles and preferences. Usually also BEFORE posting certain threads. I didn't mention this one earlier, but still a point to consider.

Have a good day. :)
Wow. Trying to discredit and silence me through insults and saying that my opinion doesn't count, rather than trying to actually counter my arguments.
Nice.
Get off your high horse and actually debate my points.
-
Just because consoles play slightly differently doesn't mean that they should be excluded from discussion. As a console player, I don't see Nurse as being all that great of a killer, and Huntress not being as strong or picked as on PC, which is my observed opinion from a differing platform. Doesn't mean that I should be discredited for preferring to have a controller, and have consistency within the performance across all of my games.
Console is rarely an afterthought too, unless you're making a game specifically for esports, such as Overwatch. They are a more legitimate platform than PC if we really want to get technical, since gaming consoles have been around longer than PC gaming has. People like that Twitter poster are also the perfect example of PC Elitism and what many console players point towards when talking about PC being an overall more toxic gaming community.
Plus there's next to no hackers on console.

you didn't say obsessively, and even then, you started playing when Legion came out...so no, you have no real claim to "experience"
Yeah, I do. I have played this game pretty consistently for a year and a half at least. Nearly two years now.
I know what I'm talking about.
And you're right. I didn't say "obsessively", I said "excessively" which may as well mean the same thing in this context. I don't play this game to the extent where I can spot the difference between two stacks of STBFL and none, or the haste effect from Devour Hope and I honestly don't know anyone who can. I've also got less vision to work with being at least 2m away from a relatively small TV compared to being face to face with a computer monitor. That does NOT discredit me from being experienced, because I have put more hours into the game than people who have started before me.
You are obviously new here, and you don't know me. Don't act like you do, or that you know everything. I don't claim to for a reason.

Except Devour Hope works similarly which notifies your exposure on the first hit of the token.
......... but you earn it's effect.
Devour Hope is fine because you have to work really hard for it. It relies on you getting at least 3 downs, hooks and running away from them in the time that they hopefully don't find a SINGLE totem to be cleansed.
-
I prefer the new Ruin's effect as it rewards people actually playing the game rather than the randomness of skill checks. Still gets cleansed before I can really pump it's use though.

but u said you dont play much
just cause you bought the game as a specific time doesnt mean you're experienced
when u bought the game and how much u played are two different things
I said obsessively play. I'm still on just about every day. At least 5 days a week, and have started streaming occasionally. Usually I won't play more than 5 matches in a day now. Just because I don't explicitly say something doesn't mean you can assume something like this.
I used to play every day for hours at a time, but I was getting close to burning myself out similar to what happened to me with Overwatch.
-
Yes, it can be countered, but you're relying on the inconsistency of randoms to get the job done for a majority of matches. Gen-rushing also hurts players more than they realise, not just the killers they go against.
I would also question which killers you're playing and if you even deserve to be at Rank 1 if you are just getting handed kills with NoED. The current ranking system shouldn't be gamed by a badly designed perk to get someone up to the highest levels of play.
Getting a 4k every game is also not a true sign of a good killer to me, it's more about the pain you inflict on the survivors with a 4k being a nice end reward. If you were able to get to red with only ONE kill per game, you'd have way more of my respect than being carried by NoED.
I know this all sounds harsh, but you make it sound like you've been carried by NoED. It is not health in it's current state, and changing Exposed notice to instant, rather than on first hit and it only activating after 5 generators have been completed to bring it in line with all the other perks is the only way that you'll be even close to getting me to agree with you. I have been punished by it too many times for everyone else refusing to do totems.

LACK OF EXPERIENCE? I have been playing since DARKNESS AMONG US.
I have highlighted why it is a bad perk, with evidence. Saying I also don't obsessively observe everything with an electron microscope doesn't mean inexperience either. I focus more on what I am doing, including the damn bones, and the killer's positioning over their movement speed.
I have tried everything to counter it within reason, and I'm suggesting qality of life changes to bring the perk in line with others. That is it.

Slugging isn't a counter. Slugging itself HAS a counter, 3 perk counters, actually. One of which is heavy meta. So it's ineffective.
Besides, there are times when DS is COMPLETELY uncounterable, no matter what you do. Your argument for "just slug" is nonsense.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1403244#Comment_1403244
Yeah I mean, that's what I'm saying. Inexperienced players have a less valid opinion on what is and isn't balanced. So I'll just disregard them from responses from now on since they spout the same carbon copy stuff over and over again laced with survivor entitlement.
So is "do bones". I did them. Also, you slug and they waste Unbreakable or their team's time. Easy. One less perk to worry about.
-
@SloppyKnockout said:

"not targeting the same player" is a false argument, when survivors go out of their way to parade themselves in front of the killer. "Not targeting the same player" is a false argument when you can hook someone, go, and hook 2 other people, come back to that person working on a gen and still be DS'd. Your argument is as paper thin as your reasoning for disliking NOED.
I did also suggest slugging. If people parade themselves in front of me, they eat dirt!
Unless you are playing something like Crack Billy against potatoes, then I don't see how you're getting hooks so quickly. I main Pig, I have a slowdown playstyle and I don't pick up RBT'd survivors. DS doesn't work on me for several reasons.

Exposed is hidden - but if you can't tell a killer has NOED based purely on their movement speed alone...I mean, that's on you. It's EXCEEDINGLY obvious when they have NOED just by looking at movement speed.
Yeah, uh, I'm on console with a TV and don't excessively play this game enough to tell the difference between a slight extra movement for the half a second it activates mid-chase.
-
@SloppyKnockout said:

It's no more flawed than DS is. Except unlike DS, NOED always has a counter. Literally 100% of the time.
So yes - if you didn't anticipate NOED, just like you anticipate BBQ, or anticipate haunted grounds before destroying a totem, you're not a very good player. From a seasoned and experience standpoint.
I have my criticisms about DS too, and it also has counters such as NOT TARGETING THE SAME PLAYER, or slugging if we really wanted to get technical.
Personally, I almost never get hit by DS because of how I play killer.
I don't anticipate it's use in 100% of games, but I still take steps to prevent it. I do the counter, yet I still get punished.

Devour hope? A second chance perk? A perk that takes SO much work, AND luck, to even use properly? LOLOLOLOOOOOLLLLOOLOLOLOLOOOOOOOLOLOOLOLLOOL
There are counter arguments for any point that can be given.
For example: I DO bones and yet I'm the one dying to NoED 99% of the time, and I did 2-4 totems easily. No Small Game, Detective's Hunch or map.
But, no. I'm the bad player because I hate the obviously flawed perk, right?
-
Well, I have several issues with NoED. Most of which @schadenfreudez28 already mentioned with being the only one to cleanse totems and dying on first hook. I did the bones. I used your counter and I GOT PUNISHED. That is the main reason for the outrage about it.
My additional problems with the perk also come from the inconsistency of it's design. Exposed is hidden, and there is zero input from the killer to gain the effect which contradicts EVERY OTHER EXPOSURE EFFECT. Except for Devour Hope and it hiding Exposed, but that one you have to earn and hope it doesn't get cleansed.
The whole "3 Perks" argument is the only credible thing to this argument in favour of NoED, but even then I could also propose just running a perk that will work all game or the fact that NoED has been proven before to literally hand killers kills that they frankly don't deserve.
If they just changed it so that Exposed shows instantly and it only triggers at GENERATOR endgame, not Hatch EGC, then people would honestly complain less. It would also be brought in line with other perks and be genuinely balanced.
-
NEW KILLER OP!!1! after they've been out for all of an hour. Like, seriously, some of us prefer to actually experience it for a time before passing judgement. Or we don't have access to the PTB because we play in console. Next chapter I'm going to make a thread about that one.
Camping and tunnelling are big ones because they are just unfair, and there's no true justification for them as strategies or tactics, outside of very rare instances. For example, I've had a Wraith tunnel me to death hook because I was his obsession and he had STBFL so he made sure I could be bumped off whenever. I was impressed and surprised by that, but it's been the only time where tunnelling has been acceptable for me.
NoED is also a common one, but as someone who DOES THE DAMN BONES and it usually the one to get hit by it, my complaints are valid. Dunno about other ones.

Maybe there is. Going by your name try it out by entering the lobby as the killer before and after pig and make a last-minute switch. Then for a third time enter as Trapper, since he is the furthest of the list to Pig.
Problem is that only the SURVIVORS see this issue. Killers apparently don't see any of the Survivor perks when they have their version of the issue, or that's at least what I could interpret from discussing it with Respectfulnancymain over Xbox messages.

It has to do with last minute switch. If the killer decides to switch to another one in the last moment, it seems to mess with the endgame screen
Good to know, but I'm still going to attempt to get them all down to see if there's a correlational between the killer played and the power that'd displayed in the end screen.
