No, they don't affect boxes because it is a power. Not that you want TR effects when playing a STEALTH killer, who hides their TR for a lot of the game. Lullaby is also a Hex, so will be destroyed pretty quickly.
As far as I am aware too, Executioner's Cages of Torment also have skill checks that are unaffected by these perks. If it a power, then it's generally unaffected.
-
I don't play that many games in a session. Usually about 5 games, then I'm off.
I tend to also focus more on the Archives missions for the game, and if I have friends on, I might switch to a smurf with purposefully under-powered perks. Except for my Claudette build with Self-Care, Dead Hard (need to swap it, hate the perk now), Resilience and Spine Chill. Good build. Rank 18-20 character, all perks are level 2 but hey. It's until I can get her teachables done.
-
People should just treat each other like people.
Everyone seems to focus on their own feelings more than those of the people around them. The whole PC Outrage Culture has proven that, and sadly it isn't just a DbD problem.
I was facecamped out of my first game, and it felt horrible. I can empathise with the survivors when they complain about camping and tunnelling because I have BEEN THERE. It sucks, and I don't know why anyone would want to do it. I've even done it to a limited extent due to either bad luck or aggressive survivors and it is incredibly boring to me.
On the killer's side, I also understand the pure frustration of people blatantly doing generators in your face with DS active, or trying to abuse Borrowed Time, and you know what? I punish them for it. That is my RESPONSIBILITY as the killer. Same with flashlighting at pallets, yes it's easy to escape but unless I'm being a toxic killer, there's no need for it. Hell, I'll even give away the hatch or a gate in ECG if someone's DC's or early hook-suicided and the survivors have had a bad game.
Just follow the old saying: "Do unto others as you wish to be done to yourself."
-
If you suspect DS, then why aren't you slugging instead? Unless they're all running the same cosmetics, it can be fairly easy to remember who you hooked.

No, it went against what some vocal people on these forums and Reddit wanted. A lot of people here tend to mistake "the Dead by Daylight forum community" for "the Dead by Daylight player base." There are a few hundred of us here, at most. The Steam client alone peaked at 69,480 players inside of the past 30 days, and this doesn't even count other platforms.
We are not representative of the DBD player base as a whole. The fact that we are here, and have taken the time to register on these forums for this specific game so that we can talk to others about it makes us very hardcore outliers, and that does not represent a normal play experience or thought pattern.
Also: I would absolutely believe, sight unseen, that their data has long been telling them Hex: Ruin had a MASSIVE effect on win rates, coming down to whether the totem got cleansed or not. Their only mistake here was not changing it sooner. And, the average player is going to go "cool, some free cosmetics!" Most of them probably don't know or care where they came from originally, and would react with a "huh cool" if you told them.
Who even USES those cosmetics, tho?
Here's a overview of my reaction to the last wave of free cosmetics: Ugly, Ugly, Ugly, Ugly, That'll get me spotted in two seconds, Ugly,Ugly, Oh hey that Donkey Jacket looks alright.
-
The new Hex: Ruin isn't that bad. Killers REFUSED TO ADAPT. I also wasn't playing this game 3 years ago, so being able to access these skins doesn't sound like that bad of an issue.
I think that there are more pressing issues within the game that should be addressed such as "strategies/tactics" within this game given a free pass by the devs where they would be bannable in any other game. Or the fact that Mori's are just a free de-pip session for everyone involved. Even the inconsistencies between different perks should be looked at before we concern ourselves about in-game character sprites.
-
Define "best"........
If we're talking straight kills, then Nurse. But at the point you're near godly with her, it's more of a chore than a game.
Fun? Pig. You uave such a toolbox on a stealthy killer, and there are a lot if ways you can work around everything. Or Doctor. So much screaming.
Rank or farming? Legion. Easy. They're so good at getting easy pips and bloodpoints due to longer games and Feral Frenzy not being a "lethal" power.
-
I have mates who don't play the game that much. They're always below rank 18.
I'm at RED. I am not getting MY killers to go against these guys.
Instead, I'm going to use underpowered perks and not level them up much. Can I still destroy a killer? Yes. But I have to really work for it.
-
Besides the usual "easy to rank up" arguments, all I can say as a Rank 5+ survivor is that now that I'm basically trapped at the highest levels, I can have fun with it.
I can afford to run stupid builds because I've already reached the highest levels of play. Have I reached rank 1? No. But there are so many sweatlords that I do not care to.
-
Yes.
While she is a VERY good killer in capable hands, she is extremely vulnerable to split up survivors worming on multiple generators and you NEED a near immediate cascade to perform well.
Once you get hooks going, and there are at least 2 trapped survivors, you're alright. But getting there is a problem.
-
Simple. I want a set build normally on a character, but either I have no luck or I use it all up in game, so my characters normally end up at level 50 and I could have reached Pres 1, Level 30 by the time I get 3 of the perks to level 3.
-
NoED is a horribly designed perk, anyone who supports it by saying "Do bones" or that the killer only has 3 perks until endgame are just making excuses to avoid talking about the real issues involved with the perk, and if you have to rely on it for kills, then you are objectively a trash killer.
- Sincerely, a goddamn PIG MAIN.
Hunting survivors is also WAY better than killing them. I'd rather have 3 survivors escape at death's door than camp out them. Kills are a reward, not a right.
You ARE dead in endgame. Me not coming back for you isn't cowardice. It's recognition of the situation and denying the killer of another kill. I do not care that you were in struggle, I could not save you. Therefore you are dead.

If you're talking about the forums, you might be right but beyond that, no, I highly doubt it.
'Killers are more vocal' sounds like a dog whistle to the point I've been making all along. Also your noed comparison is funny, in that, back in the day it was sprint burst vs noed debates. SB has so many layers of 'nerf' at this point its ridiculous, compare to noed which is still a solid perk.
I cannot stress enough how neutral I am with my opinions. And I've experienced it first hand, every time I criticise Hillbilly, who annoys me infinetly more than Doctor.
As for NoED, I've always hated it. It's a dumb perk and is an outlier in how it operates.

Look, if they were going for an 'annoying' design, it worked. I just don't see why you would want that in your game, as OP said, they'd rather leave the game.
And come on, just take a moment to sit back and be objective. Look at the upvotes relative to whose posting (killers/survivors) and the response with upvotes that support it to see the imbalance.
Looking at that you could argue 'they're right' or as I see it 'tribalism'.
Back in the day it was easier to see on DBD reddit because upvote and downvote. Good survivor post would get downvoted into oblivion, while generic 'poor killer' posts would get up voted.
I think that I've been around here a bit longer than you and I can say that it just depends on the patch as to who's complaining this time. It also depends on a lot of circumstances within the game.
Recently there was a whole string of anti-NoED threads, right after the whole "Second chance meta that I don't want to adapt to!" and before those were the stupid "FREDDY REWORK OP!!!!1!" threads. Both sides have their moments, but it's like I said in that killers are a bit more vocal about it.
-
@Yukihere said:
You're not wrong, but you wont get much positive feedback from a killer dominated forum.
The 'rework' of doctor was supposed to make him less annoying to play against, but they didn't address those annoyances. Instead they relied on hex:ruin changes and d/c penalties to say 'oh look doctors not annoying to play against anymore, the stats prove it'. BTW you don't see the killer outcry about 'stats not being facts' in those instances do you? rofl
/facepalm
The thing is though that Doctor, as a pressure killer, is DESIGNED to be annoying. It is his identity as a killer.
And I wouldn't call these forums "killer dominated", but they certainly cry more than survivors do. I'm personally in the middle, not favouring one side over the other.
-
I use Lithe and there is virtually nowhere to use it. If the killer finds me, then I'm screwed since there is no real way to avoid them half the time. It's super hard to find ANYTHING, and I have an easier time navigating Lery's or the Gideon Meat Plant.
Haven't played it as killer yet, though.

no lol that sounds like robocop to me, ooh! add robocop to dbd
It's true. Part of the first movie was that the Predator left alone the civilian chick because she wasn't actually armed with anything. I think that it was also touched up on in the second movie. It's never covered in Predators, because it is a hunting grounds and they're all armed the entire time.
I haven't seen The Predator and honestly don't plan to after hearing reviews and what-not.

If you don't "know about that last part", you don't play DBD.
Mori's are popular among low-skilled killers. Experienced killers do not make a habit of using mori's unless it's for a challenge. It's not a matter of opinions. It's observable fact. You don't get hundreds of ebony mori offerings when you use them all the time. Period.
Mori's are pretty rare, yes, but the point was that I've seen them a bit more than you say they appear.
And I do play the game pretty regularly. If anything mori's are most common at about Green ranks, so more in the middle than in the lower ranks.
I never see them in the brown and yellow ranks, though.
-
Don't you guys have a "Recently Played With" option, or is that just Xbox?
-
@SloppyKnockout said:
Here's the thing - keys are better for survivors than ebony mori's are for killers. Key escapes count as a full on escape. Ebony mori's (or any mori) do not count as a sacrifice, and you will likely depip if you mori everyone.
Besides, killers have hoards and hoards of mori's. Do you know why? It's cause they don't use them.
I dunno about that last part.
I've met a LOT of Mori-happy killers. I also distinctly remember one particular night of 5 games where there were 4 Ebonies in a row from 4 different killers. All of which also had NoED. The last game was against the same killer as game 4 but he didn't have one but did have a raging hatred for me.
-
I don't get survivors staying behind, but I have had several games where they hurl themselves at me and that goes especially so for back when people used to just DC from matches early on.
-
Well, this would explain why Lithe feels terrible on this map............
-
STOP RIGHT THERE, CRIMINAL SCUM!

You don't need to go for Adept while also doing Archives.

Give me some other way to prevent the survivors from escaping and sure, I'll branch out. Bloodpoints are meaningless to me aside from the grind and I couldn't care less about pipping or a random ranking number that nobody sees until the end of the game. I'm in the trial to try and make sure nobody escapes and the only means I have to do that is to try to kill them all.
That's fine, but it's how you go about it. I personally prefer the hunting part of killer gameplay, so people escaping doesn't get to me too much. Unless I got gen-rushed.
-
@konchok said:

Are you seriously suggesting that Killers shouldn't kill and that's some alternative play style?
No. I'm saying that killing isn't EVERYTHING. Of the 4 emblems for killer, only ONE requires kills, and even then the killer is punished for having less hooks.
I also only said that it was theoretically possible to reach rank 1 without killing. I never said that we should do it.
-
Something that a lot of people don't realise is that playing in an SWF squad is actually really detrimental to survivors who are trying to keep or increase their rank. Same with gen-rushing.
Now about this 6th generator, and something that I bring up for every 6th generator post:
- Will there now be 8 generators that spawn on the map to compensate for the fact that there are always 2 more than necessary to avoid camping out one specific generator?
- Will map sizes be increased to compensate for this?
- Is it really going to stop the problem, or are people just going to play in 3-man groups and just invite the random into the conversation? And yes, I know that this one is a bit more specific to this post, but it's still something to address.
As it currently stands, there are always 7 generators where 5 need to be completed so that someone can't just camp out a generator and stop the game. Telling 4-man SWF groups to go and do ANOTHER one would make it extremely difficult for anyone if there were only 7 generators left as it's a common strat to leave two near each other and one far away at worst if possible. Even for a coordinated team, it's still extremely difficult to get past a good 3-gen strat from a killer and adding a generator completion would only make it worse.
I also don't know if there are more than 7 generator spawn locations on all of the maps, but I do believe that there are specific requirements for generators to spawn, so there'd probably be a lot of issues with placements. The obvious solution there would to be just increasing the map size for those games, but some killers are severely weakened by larger maps.
There are too many factors that come into play when we're talking about something like this for it to be looked into.
-
Well, it's not exactly like we expect to load into every match and go against the same thing. I can't stand the chainsaw killers, but I go into matches knowing that they're two in twenty, and one of them is considered a laughing stock, so the odds of getting them are relatively low. Same with keys and flashlights. I think that flash-lighting at a pallet is something of a Richard relocation, especially since I don't show any signs of toxicity, but they're pretty rare.
I also don't demand nerfs like half the forum posters. If anything I just subtly imply it.
Best analogy I can give to your question is within Yahtzee Croshaw's reviews of Dark Souls over on Zero Punctuation. Something about banging your head against a brick wall.

Using lisa gets me targeted even more than heather though if you havent seen the lisa debacle.
Yeah, from what I've heard Lisa is targeted over Cheryl.
Both are still getting it bad, though.
I'm just kinda happy that people have turned their attention away from Claudette for now!
-
@Peanits said:
Now I can't confirm this, it's just a educated guess, but some people might target her over other survivors because she's new, so she usually won't be maxed out just yet. They're less likely to have full builds of meta perks, so they're easier targets. It tends to happen anytime there's a new character.
I think that it's more of a case of people with the Lisa skin being targeted similar to how Fallout First members got targeted in Fallout 76. Targeting people who payed lots of actual money for particular in-game purchases.
But yeah, there are going to be those who target Cheryl players for not having complete builds. That or they like her particular screams.
-
"As always when a new killer is released, they received a huge amount of feedback and reactions immediately post-release, and they want to allow some time for players to get used to the new killer, learn how to play against him and level him sufficiently to be able to compare him fairly to the other killers, before they make any significant changes."
So, in other words, STOP OVERREACTING AT RELEASE. It's so annoying having to scroll past the "New killer OP", "New killer Needs Buff" and "New Perks Bad" posts to find some actual content on these forums as a console player. I am finding Pyramid Head easy to go against currently, but then again, I don't think that people have learnt him properly yet so it's hard to say.
I also generally point to Clown as a perfect example of just letting natural counters form. I don't recall seeing any changes to him until recently and I've been playing since Darkness Among Us. So many people say "worst killer in the game!" and that's just by giving it time.
It's also good to see that the perks were buffed slightly, because on paper they certainly seemed a bit weak. The only one that I still see as weak though would be Forced Penance, but having the timer at 40/50/60 might be enough to scare some people off.

Actually I play both survivor and killer equally, and so long as the killer doesn't just straight up face camp me on the hook, then I find everything else to be fair game. If a teammate unhooks me while the killer is close by and they don't have borrowed time, than I can't blame the Killer choosing to go for the person that's injured and not the healthy person.
I can and do. I normally take the trade and punish the one who unhooked in my face, since THEY were the ones to make the stupid mistake. Normally it's easy enough to get a hit in too so both are injured, and if I so happen to get the unhooked one, I'll just slug them.

The issue isn't necessarily M&A. His terror radius in general is screwed real bad. That dumb music he has doesn't feel like it's proximity based like a heartbeat is. And what makes him worse than huntress is while his terror radius is 24, her's is much longer because of her lullaby. So on a killer with infinite ammo and a short reload you have next to no warning before he shoots you. I'm not saying he's OP or anything. I just agree with the original post that his terror radius does need some working on.
Here's what I say to ALL people who say similar things: If you increase his TR, then you may as well increase his shot range. His shortened TR reflects his slower movement speed and the fact that his shot is almost at his base TR distance.
I get what people say about his particular TR sound though, and while it is annoying, it isn't that bad. Admittedly the furthest music needs a bit of work, but once you're within about 15m of him, it's completely fine.
-
Well, they all suck to have happen to them. Seriously, play nothing but survivor for two months straight, and you'll see everything they all complain about.
There really aren't that many SWF groups, and not all of them use comms. Respectfulnancymain and I occasionally play together and we don't use Xbox Party Chat at all. The whole SWF thing just sounds like an excuse at this point.
As for your last little sentence, the titles of the roles are misleading. Killer is a much snappier and more catching title than Torturer, Tormentor, Hunter or any other similar thing. Same goes for Survivor, since it could be changed to Victim and it'd have a similar description to the actual gameplay. I know that heaps of people don't care about it, but look at what the Pip system asks of you: HURT Survivors, Hook them, keep them off generators. Kill them when the time is right. I can guarantee you that it is entirely possible to rank up to Rank 1 (theoretically so don't go biting my head off!) without actually killing anyone as far as I know. I made it to red while dying in heaps of my games because I play to my objectives. There is more than one way to play killer, and more people should branch out from the typical skulls-on-the-end-screen mentality.
-
@TheMajor said:

His range is 18 meters max.
Two meters either side isn't that bad. It's kinda hard to get exact statistics on half of the killer powers.
Point was also that M&A reduces the TR to about the same as his shot length and mainly that it's a good perk for him, but better builds don't use it.
-
The community has wanted a shapeshifter for a while, but I believe that the devs have indeed put a blanket "No" on the matter.
As for the rest of the kit, you could easily get by on the shape-shifting factor alone. No need for Exposed. Make them turn into a random survivor would actually be massive, but there are a couple of issues that go along with the "Survivor Form", such as the Red Stain, being on the same generator as a survivor to sell the illusion, the perk Bond being a thing or even seeing if people are injured or not and having SWF constantly communicating relaying positions. Not all SWF are hit-squads, giving constant tactical call-outs like a SWAT team, but they do talk enough.
More custom TR values would be nice, as Pig used to have a 28m TR, rather than the usual 32/24, but I doubt that they'll ever go back to that sort of thing. That and having M&A on this killer would be either essential or almost busted, similar to Tier-II Myers.
-
Cloud. One of my brothers keeps telling me that it's because of his "broken hitboxes" in Smash 4, but I still play him in Ultimate because I like his moveset. I also don't mind Dark Samus in Ultimate.
In Brawl, it's a combination of Samus (preferably in suit) and Snake.
Don't have Melee or 64, and don't plan on playing them. Especially Melee and it's fanbase that make ours seem delightful in comparison.
Used to play more of Ike, but as I got used to the game more, he was a bit too slow. Tried Shulk, but his straight line attacks always annoyed me. DK was fun for a time, but his vertical "recovery" was always lacking and annoying. Little Mac is also one I pull out occasionally, and I can't tell you just how many times I've flung myself over the edge accidentally. Played a bit of Lucario for a time too, before I learnt how to dodge, tho.

I have been camped and tunneled before as I have played survivor. I understand that I made a mistake and that's the reason I'm being camp/tunneled.
That's just so wrong on SO MANY LEVELS. I can play near perfectly and still get done in by toxic killers just because it's a "legitimate strategy" and it's "my fault" that some idiot went for an unsafe unhook. That's like saying it's MY fault that some idiot is using Self-Care to heal when it's obviously safe to go for the unhook! And yes, I do run Self-Care so I know what I'm not on a stupid bandwagon!
Take those feelings about getting targeted and denied a chance to play, think over the amount of times you've thought or said "There are 3 other people in here, GO AFTER ONE OF THEM FOR ONCE." Now apply all that to when you play killer, and become a better player by NOT going after a person who got unhooked recently or, I dunno, slug them. Here's a list of benefits to that as well:
- They feel better about versing you since you have half a chance to play the game
- You don't get hit by DS at all
- If they have Unbreakable, they'll use it once and that's IT. They now can't use it in the endgame.
- Other survivors are likely to stop doing what they're doing in order to go and pick up that survivor, wasting time.
It isn't a myth, since you have TUNNEL VISION on one person and only target them. Gen-rushing shouldn't be encouraged because it's boring, sucks and is terrible for both sides. Nobody wins in a gen-rush game.
I also used it specifically to combat the rampant amount of tunnellers that appeared right before the "second chance meta" that a lot of killer players seem to love complaining about. My personal playstyle avoids it completely, but hey, I also think that the emblem system is a better indication of a killer's skill than a set of skulls at the end screen.
You have counters, just use them. It's what everyone else does/says to do.
-
I've said the same things about tunnelling, camping and all that other fun stuff that tend to happen in the name of fun. I've even got a full thread saying that the excuse of "I payed money, so I can play how I want" doesn't excuse it.
Unless the devs actually start making them all reportable offences, or severely punished, then certain players are ALWAYS going to do it. The game will continue to be balanced around these too, as they count towards statistics and need perks to counter them. Nothing will change unless there is a drastic measure taken by either the playerbase or the developers.

Meh I disagree. I'm on console and spirit is way easier. 30 fps makes chainsaw a nightmare without shadowborn and I think I've only met 1 good Billy since deathslingers release.
Turning is a lot easier apparently. Especially since it's just moving the camera.
Spirit is easier mechanically, but I also find it hard going back to her since she's a 110, and majority of the killers I normally play are 115's. I legit just play it straight and throw off so many people.
-
Just saying that Claudette players have had to put up with this for years now.
We pick the character and don't bother buying cosmetics because A) we don't want to stand out like a lightbulb and B) want to save Shards for the Shrine or save money. Then there's a target painted on our backs because of our character choice for "being a toxic Blendette".
People in general suck, and while acts like "Tunnelling" are allowed to remain in the game, then they'll justify it however they want.

You mean they all require something more than just looping ? The game needs killers that change things up though, atlest imo
Well, yes. And I think that 99% of Doctor complaints are unjustified.
Main thing was that they all end chases super quickly or ignore an important survivor defense. Nurse ignores the map, Spirit ignores visual clues, Hillbilly ignores having two health states, Doctor cancels vaults/pallet drops and Freddy is Freddy.
-
@Dr_Loomis said:
Unpopular opinion: I think the ability to feather the Hillbilly's chainsaw and walk around with it should be removed. ๐
To make it the same as EVERY OTHER ABILITY? No. Why would they do that?
-
@Witas said:
There is no way they'll nerf Hillbilly, he's propably the best killer they have when it comes to balance
-strong but fair with weaknesses to exploit
-fun to use and fun to go against
-has a high enough skill ceiling to really allow great players to thrive with him.
Nerfing hillbilly would be like saying outright: "we don't want strong killers anymore, all we want are Mid tier killers with cooldowns and hinderances in their power" and there is no way they want their game to become this stale, one dimensional bs.
I know very well what kind of response I'll get for saying this, but that is indeed my belief (Because after 4 years, playing straight from the release, I still have no idea what they're thinking). If they do endup nerfing him then atleast I'll be sure what kind of developer BHVR is once and for all.
Hillbilly is one of the least fun characters to go against for a lot of people, or so it would seem.
If you have a look at the characters that people hate going against, they all follow a similar trend: Freddy, Nurse, Spirit, Hillbilly, Doctor........
-
All regression of any generator is paused while under the effects of perks such as Thrilling Tremors and Repressed Alliance.
-
For me, it's a combination of over-exposure to Hillbilly, and the rampant over-use of his chainsaw as a weapon.
He is SO EASY to play on console combined with the fact that he has the easiest base-kit instant down to hit with outside of Bubba's AoE.
Yes, I can run a Hillbilly for a long time and yes he'd down me 3 times faster with his hammer, but he persisted on using the chainsaw and it feels horrible. Especially when latency has me hit by an attack from around a corner or with room for another survivor to run through.
Of the top 3 killers, based on most community tier lists (Nurse, Spirit, Hillbilly), he is the easiest to play, and has a basekit instant-down with no drawbacks. And is completely base-game.
I think that the only (or one of) reason(s) that he HASN'T been nerfed is that those who rely in the saw are punished by the Emblem system that a vast majority of the community ignores.
-
I'd have a literal survival mode, similar in a way to a Battle Royale, expect instead of taking out your fellow survivors, you have to be the last man/woman/Apache helicopter left alive. Add a few more survivors just for fun and let the blood flow!

Only played one game so far, as a survivor, and it's a nightmare. No only could I not tell where anything was, but the fact that the killer TR goes through floors doesn't help. Not enough vaults either, especially for a member of the Lithe Gang.
