  • It was meant to be rhetorical. There's no "system error" that can take your credit card and input the details on your computer. Someone made a purchase with your information and it's not on any company to make sure you don't leave your credit card lying around.

  • This is indeed intentional and was always like this.

  • @D_Orien said:

You forgot not giving refunds. No company should be allowed not to give refunds. If there's ever a system error where unauthorised payment is done for example, you can't get refunded which is ######### greedy.

What kind of system error puts your credit card details in the game/Steam/whatever?

  • I find it extremely dull and it's one of the reasons why I avoid playing killer.

i dont judge how dc for facecamp, i really rage when someone is licking my face and i am basically dead because its not everymatch that someone wanna risk for save some random dude and someone that has BT, its bad for the game, yes, but i cant judge

I do because DCing only rewards campers. If you actually cared about the issue of camping you wouldn't make it worthwhile to camp. That's my view.

And here it beggins the toxity, if you camp the survival dc if the survivals dc he lose pip, after a while the ssurvivals will stop caring about rank and will dc everytime that he see a legion or a mori and is like that that we turn the game in crap

I see what you mean, clearly the problem is the DCing because it rewards campers.

That's fair enough and we're both entitled to our opinions, but it still stands that I believe penalties should be reinstated when this crash error is fixed. They're looking into it now so fingers crossed it IS just them DCing and not getting bugged out.

Like I said in my first comment, though, exceptions will always exist. No system will ever be perfect. That's no reason to throw out every system and live in total anarchy.

  • @CremelloJoJo said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1510265#Comment_1510265

That's the thing, you don't know that they're quitting because of an offering, they might be getting the crash. Penalties will be back but it wouldn't make sense to reinstate them until this error is fixed, you're lucky to not be getting it but many people are.

By that same logic, you don't know that they're getting the crash. They could be quitting because of an offering. However, my money's on the vast majority of them quitting because of an offering, so the penalty makes sense.

  • @CremelloJoJo said:

My friend blue-screened due to the latest patch bugs, does she deserve a penalty for that? 🙄

No, but if we followed that logic we'd live in total anarchy. False positives will always happen with every system because no system is 100% perfect. That's no reason to throw out every system.

Are you going to solo Q at all? SWF may not give you best impression, or same as rest of us who only solo Q.

But I definitely am curious what your experience is once you actually test it. Because its blatant to me that majority of people I had on my team had no clue what they were doing.

Some of the things I saw playerts doing yesterday could only be explained by "they just installed two days ago"

Please report back, I am genuinely curious what your take is once you actually experience what the rest of us have been stating on the board this morning. The matches just feel crazy

I guess I should play solo as well, though I don't really like to. We'll see.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1509401#Comment_1509401

Curious, have you played the game much since new MMR?

    What has YOUR experience been?

Every streamer I watch has had this happening and every match I had yesterday over 5 hours was this way, how has yours been?

Nope. I'm currently getting together with a friend to do so, however. That friend, as it happens, reported that his trials felt fair all around, but I want to experience it for myself.

I will say, though, that my reaction would've been the same if someone had posted a score screen showing a high amount of BP and complaining that they didn't get a pip. The two systems are no longer connected.

Dude wiped the floor with us as Leatherface. He was super fast.

    RIP MMR then.

  • If the MMR worked as advertised in your case, this is irrelevant. What about the actual outcome of the trial or how it went?

  • I'm pretty sure the devs neglected to add an exception to the algorithm for newbies, to limit their "exposure" to experienced players for a while. I made a suggestion thread on the subject.

  • From what we've been told, the MMR algorithm has been running in the background to discern players' skill levels for a while now, so it may have determined that would've been an appropriate trial for you.

  • @Kebek said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1509281#Comment_1509281

Honestly that all I'm asking for. I want to know my rank and how to reach it, I don't care what my MMR is specifically, I want to know where I am compared to other players be it gold, silver, diamon or whatever they would name it. Problem is as I said already that devs aren't telling us anything which isn't ok in my book.

We will still have the previous ranks displayed. Nothing's changed in that regard.

That could of course also work, the importance is that they use something to filter out actual noobs. Right now it's actually disastrous what lobbies the matchmaking is putting together, it's a nightmare for new players and the experienced players are getting bored.

Agreed. I'll open a suggestion thread on the subject in a bit.

Good point. I'll edit that to reflect I was thinking of your OP in particular.

  • @Roobnus said:

It would make sense to use the Devotion Level to roughly estimate the skill & experience of a player and then from that point on let people rank up / down depending on their performance.

I've seen actual Devotion 24 players with several thousand hours of playtime going up against Killers with less than 50 hours for several matches in a row.

IMO they should place every new player in the 25th percentile and everyone else who didn't play when data was being gathered at whatever the average MMR is. I highly doubt any newbie can play better than the bottom quarter of players right off the bat, which would help isolate them from completely unfair trials, and everyone else should be at least average at the game. Devotion doesn't really count for much since it just shows play time; they might as well use the normal rank for that.

  • @DrDeepwound said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1509263#Comment_1509263

I never say negative things about the devs. I actually state that I believe in them on this forum so for you to assume that just because someone has a complaint about the game that they are speaking negatively about the devs is quite the reach. And seems like attempt to derail the thread about something that no one mentioned except you.

SO I guess you think the game is perfect with no complaints, better not or youre putting down the devs. Get real.

I never said what I think of the OP, so why are you acting like you can read my mind?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1509204#Comment_1509204

Other games with MM rating tell you what rank you are and how to increase your MM rating. DBD doesn't do either as of now.

Ranks don't matter and we go not official answer on what defines a win. Is me hooking survivors 8 times but then they all manage to escape a win or a loss ? Did my rating improve or decrease, I don't know since I don't know what defines a win unlike before where I knew it and just didn't care since it wasn't that great at properly ranking people by skill anyway yet it was better then knowing nothing like now and forcing me to play new players until it supposedly "settles" which I highly doubt ti will.

Hidden MMR is the standard for competitive games, even when they place you at a particular rank (gold, silver, whatever). Which games do you know that only have a rank and no hidden MMR?

  • @DrDeepwound said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1509204#Comment_1509204

Literally, no one typed the word "BHVR" or said anything negative about the dev team except you bringing that insinuation in h the thread.

We are complaining about the imbalance of matches in regards to experience in the game. You and only you mentioned "BHVR" in the thread.

So we're just gonna pretend that literally nobody here is talking about BHVR even though they're complaining about DbD's MMR in particular? Alrighty then.

  • @Kebek said:

I wish they at least told us what a win is now for each side. With how emblem system was designed I really don't know if killing/surviving is actually skillful when you can hard carry your team and then get facecamped or do 8 hook but then everyone escapes.

I don't want full description to all actions that the system is based around, just tell me if killing/surviving is the main thing or not.

Also "just play and if match feels fair then MM is working" is the most horrible excuse ever. I had decent portion of matches that felt just about right with previous system as well and that system defined winning conditions in great detail for me while also telling me where I was rankled so this new one is by all means a huge downgrade.

Also "just play and if match feels fair then MM is working" is the most horrible excuse ever.

It's not an excuse, it's how every game with an MMR works, but for some reason only BHVR gets flak for it.

I like giving the last survivor hatch or door especially if they're clearly new or a bit crap, but idk if that's really doing them a favour anymore.

That's one of my concerns as well. I don't want to be given the hatch by someone who completely outskills me if I'll just end up going against even stronger killers who might not be as merciful.

  • @xenotimebong said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1509021#Comment_1509021

Nobody is asking for every intricate detail of their algorithm, but with most games you have a general idea. E.g. in an FPS if you miss every shot and die without killing anyone your MMR will decrease, if you kill 30 people without dying your MMR will increase. But there’s no real equivalent in DBD because if I get paired with teammates that are new to the game I’m much less likely to escape, and even if I were the best survivor player to ever pick up the game that would be true. So you can’t entirely base it on escapes and kills.

Just a general idea would be nice. Considering that neither the player base or the devs can come to any kind of agreement about what constitutes a win, a little bit of clarity about what matters would help people believe that there actually is an MMR system at all. Right now my first hand experience with this new system leads me to believe that they just switched off matchmaking entirely. None of my matches make any kind of sense, the skill levels are all over the place.

Play to escape as survivor, play to kill as killer. The rest should come naturally. That's my guess, anyway.

  • @DrDeepwound said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1509069#Comment_1509069

So despite being told MMR has been running in the background quietly gathering our rank/skill for some time now (we dont know how long) youre telling me it just randomly throws you in imbalanced matches.

Ok, well at least we know its random as suspected LOL

Anyone who can actually play this game knows the moment youre on a team with zero understanding of the game, and after last night, it was apparent, after having rank 20 killers and survivors who obviously did not know how to play etc,.... you confirmed what we knew, that its random and not working.

I didn't confirm anything, I offered possibilities. I don't know how it works or why it's doing this, I'm just thinking outside the "BHVR incompetent" box. I've been quite explicit in this with the use of phrases like "I think" and "might".

  • @DrDeepwound said:

"If the trials don't seem fair, then MMR might not be working properly."

    10000 hours vs 42 hours

    Tell me its working perfectly.

I was matched against killers with less than 100 hours and I have almost 2k. Felt bad for them.

Did you read the rest of my comment? Here, I'll quote it for you:

There are other alternatives, which I didn't think about before.

From what I understand, the MMR will kinda toss you between extremes until it figures out where you fit, like trying to guess a number between 1 and 1000 but only knowing if your guess is higher or lower than the number you want. That means newbies will have to play against experienced players for the algorithm to properly determine their skill level. We might just be seeing the result of that, in which case it will stabilize at some point.

What do you mean game the system, like smurfing? People don’t need details to smurf, if you want to lower your MMR you just queue up as killer and AFK. If you’re a survivor you run straight at the killer and let him hook you then attempt escape and don’t struggle. Not giving out details won’t prevent smurfing.

With more details they could figure out how to lower their MMR without having to spend several hours doing nothing and receiving no BP.

  • @DrDeepwound said:

"They know a large portion of the playerbase would love to be able to grief newbies and/or bad players."

Lines like this make no sense when literally the big complaint is red rank players being matched versus rank 20 killers. Or red rank killers destroying rank 20 survs, come on.

As a red rank, I dont want to play against killers with less than 50 hours. We dont want to play with rank 20s thats the whole point.

Do you think the people who like to grief would come here and say "This new MMR allows me to grief as much as I want and I love it!", or would they be too busy griefing?

    @johnmwarner said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1509032#Comment_1509032

The trials don’t seem fair, and it’s not just me and my 10-ish games in each side... watch streamers who play dozens of games each day and the games are still a joke. I’m watching 8k hour killers being matched up against survivors who literally never look behind them. Or camp a pallet, drop it and run without waiting for a break.

Also we don’t “know,” surviving and killing is a big part just because it was before. Especially considering they said the old MM wasn’t a good indicator.

The biggest thing for killer comes down to being nice or playing fair, the old system punished you for quick games but maybe the new MMR rewards you for obliterating the survivors?

Surviving and killing is a big part because it always has been and always will be. It's in the name of the game and the names of the roles. Why would it no longer be relevant?

If the trials don't seem fair, then MMR might not be working properly. There are other alternatives, which I didn't think about before.

From what I understand, the MMR will kinda toss you between extremes until it figures out where you fit, like trying to guess a number between 1 and 1000 but only knowing if your guess is higher or lower than the number you want. https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1509021#Comment_1509021

Every last detail, I’m not asking for that, but there is no broad idea either. At least in most games you have a general idea like “kills you get vs times you die.”

They could say, “escaping is a big part as survivor,” or let killers know which is better, dominating a team quickly or a drawn out 12 hook game.

The survivors' goal is to survive, the killers' is to kill. IMO, it's pretty obvious that a big part of it is going to be escapes and kills. The ranking system also gives us an idea of what they consider skillful.

I think the devs' main concern is that if they give out too many details, people will try to game the system. They know a large portion of the playerbase would love to be able to grief newbies and/or bad players. With that in mind, I'll reiterate: just play to the best of your ability and see if the trials feel fair or not. Remember that your goal as a survivor is to survive and as a killer it's to kill.

  • Play to the best of your ability and see if the trials feel fair. If they do, the MMR is working properly. If not, it's not.

Which games using an MMR do you know that not only show you everyone's MMR, but also explicitly list every last intricate detail of how their copyrighted intellectual property (i.e.: the MMR algorithm) works?

    That's such a false narrative.

"If you rely on X Perk, you're a bad Killer/Survivor"

Guess we just shouldn't use perks since we rely on them to win huh?

No, no, you can use perks, but only if you get no value out of them, otherwise you're "relying" on them to win. For example, if you're a stealth player, bring MoM. If you never work on gens, bring Leader. If you never kick gens, bring Overcharge. It's all about bringing perks you will never use, so you're not relying on them to win.

Never said it wasn’t was just stating why this game is more entertaining to watch and not play.

You also said it was BHVR's fault for not "fixing" these issues even though most are just opinion-based. To me, that indicates you think they're objective problems with the game.

  • @TheFrog said:

It’s because they can’t balance anything.

A minor list of what’s stupid and needs fixing:

    1) SWF will always beat Killers and Killers always beat SOLO Q, the game should be fair, a swf should not be able to massively bully a killer just like a killer shouldn’t be able to always 4K a SOLO Q. (My opinion)

    2) They don’t make killers fair to verse, LF can be so far away from me and still be able to get me with his tantrum, it shouldn’t be as long as it is and he shouldn’t be able to move as fast/far as he does. He can get someone further away then 3x the distance of Myers EW3 lunge which is complete stupidity. (Yes I make him bump into objects but he’s just right back on me)

    3) Spirit.... just gonna leave this here.

    4) Gen Speeds are absurdly fast especially playing against a SWF.

    5) 90% of the perks in the game are pure trash so everyone needs to use the same sweaty and toxic metas just to win and curse anyone who doesn’t use them because they don’t want to be a [BAD WORD]

    6) Tunneling and Camping killers (ITS NOT SKILL OR A TECHNIQUE ITS YOU JUST BEING THAT AFRAID OF LOSING THAT YOU DO ANYTHING IN YOUR POWER TO MAKE THE GAME WOTSE FOR EVERYONE) (this one hits close to home if you didn’t pick that up)

    7) Survs who hook suicide on their first hook because “oh no I got downed, well screw this game onto the next where I hopefully won’t get hooked at all”

    8) Last but certainly not least. DCs, for the love of god stop DCing because you got downed first, it ruins the game for everyone else. And please give more them 600 BP to those left, give them a boost to atleast make black pip.

Thank you for coming to my TED TALK.

(close to just uninstalling the game because I’m done with the amount of bs that comes with it)

Most of your points are just opinion-based. Most of the others are player issues that BHVR has no way to solve.

  • If I see nobody is the obsession, I actively go out of my way to avoid hooking the same survivor twice in a row. Different strokes for different folks, as they say.

EDIT: Realized I'd typed the exact opposite of what I intended.

unrealistic? sure, but they still play on fears that people realistically have.

some people have fears of sharks, especially if they became intelligent or learned to walk on land. unrealistic? sure is but its still a realistic fear for the person, stuff that forms in childhood, an intelligent or more aware human being fears more realistic things, someone with less intelligence or awareness of the world fear less realistic things.

sure is but its still a realistic fear for the person, stuff that forms in childhood

There we go, it's relative to the person, so your claim that X is horror but Y isn't because the former is realistic and the latter isn't has been blown out of the water.

I don't buy your conjecture that it has something to do with intelligence or "awareness of the world" since you claim Freddy is horror when even a cursory glance at scientific literature on dreams will tell you why it's 100% unrealistic, but that's a conversation for another time.

  • @Dsalter said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1508402#Comment_1508402

no he's a super villain at that point.

horror isn't about how "powerful they are" they are about how much fear and terror they instill, villains bring fear sure, but not personal "your fingers would look good on my wall" sort of fear.

Myers for example is an excellent example of a horror killer because he is obsessed, dangerous yet realistically human, the kind of realistic human you get scared by because a stalker could be watching... you. right. now.

Freddy is terror because you cannot escape from him, sure you can stall by staying awake, and sure he cant hurt you while your awake, but we all sleep, we have to sleep eventually, even quentin learns this, the inescapable terror that is Freddy is he WILL get you eventually because you cant avoid his method of torture forever.

Ghostface is sheer terror that he's a skilled and ruthless stalker who loves making a big story on the papers, so he watches, evaluates and calculates the best way to kill a person before he just goes and does it, he plans it all right down to how messy he does or does not want it to be.

Cell is a super villain, sure he's "scary" in a sense but on a personal and realistic level? he's as scary as Eggman or Thanos, they are far to imaginary to be a horror genre because you cannot relate to it.

next time you walk outside in the dark, think about how many eyes could be watching you, maybe one of those set of eyes has a personal taste for your hair? maybe they'd just LOVE to get up close and personal with your hair... maybe they even want to try it on... even if they have to skin it from you. that small bit of "what if?" or that chilling thought of that being possible? thats fear.

Horror doesn't have to be realistic at all. The Thing is horror, yet such a being is completely outlandish. Freddy is completely unrealistic as well.

Mandy: Everyone needs to play around 10 matches for the MMR to settle.

Almo: MMR does not start at default which means MMR will start working right away for players who have been playing for a while since the MMR algorithm was working in the background collecting data for a while now. Only new accounts need to play 10 matches.

And like Almo said, Mandy was talking about from the start of its calculations (meaning when it was first enabled in the background).

1 … 93 94 95 96 97 … 343
