Have you ever considered that you could just be wrong?
I see this a lot in discussions, online and offline. One person (or group) claims something that is just objectively wrong, like vaccines causing autism or that 5G causes COVID-19, and the majority, naturally, presents them with the facts.
The minority group then comes up with rationales as to why the majority is wrong and/or misguided. Usual excuses are: "it's a conspiracy" (followed by either accusations that the majority "fell for it" or that they're somehow "in on it"), the majority is engaging in a "circle jerk", the majority is "biased" against them, and so on.
At no point does the minority group stop to think "Y'know, maybe I'm the one who's wrong", even though they objectively and demonstrably are. Vaccines don't cause autism, 5G doesn't cause COVID-19, and Deathslinger has counters.
The forum is not killer-biased, you're getting responses based on other people's experience, but you always find some excuse to dismiss it. At some point, you just have to consider the possibility that you are the one who is biased (and wrong).
EDIT: For the record, I'm not saying Deathslinger has counters because the majority says he does, since that's a fallacy (argumentum ad populum). I'm saying that Deathslinger has counters and that the majority recognizes that. Those are two separate things.

@Orion if BHVR had a little tighter control over what is considered "unsportsmanlike conduct" I think 90% of the behavior would just disappear. They could probably just drop post-game chat (i know we can close it and most should) because little good comes out of it.
In game I would like for them to come up with small things to reduce stuff naturally, i.e.:
1) coming out of crouch takes a second and you can't spam it and teabag people
2) flashlight overheats or just burns out if you just spam the key, I mean serious some people click that thing 30 times in a second.
3) Hitting survivors on the hook extends by slowing down the progress meter.
Other such things like that...
Instead of asking them to drop the post-game chat, why not use the report system? I have fun conversations in the post-game chat, occasionally, but I also report all the ######### I see, to try to decrease the number of unfun conversations.
- I sometimes alternate between crouching and standing when I'm not using Urban Evasion and want to remain hidden while the killer searches my area. Even a second of delay could be the difference between escaping unseen and getting a meat cleaver shoved up my ass.
- While annoying, that's a sign you can ignore that player. They're not going to work on gens, they're just gonna follow you around all the time. Without that, gen rush would probably be worse. Still, I would also like to see this removed.
- With the way hits and hit priority works, killers are likely to hit hooked survivors instead of the one they're chasing. This is a hard "no" due to the abusable nature of it.

@Orion I disagree, there are plenty of times that individuals need to censor another individual; the retail person who turns away the screaming lunatic customer, the argument that you choose not to participate in so you just walk away. We get to choose in most circumstances the people we surround ourselves with in life.
Suddenly the word competition is used and all bets are off. Besides cheating people can just be pricks because they can hide behind the anonymity of the internet? I think we should ask and demand more from people.
If someone is behaving in a way that violates the rules of the establishment (or game, in this case), you can report them. Ignoring them without reporting them so the proper authorities can take care of the problem doesn't help at all and only makes them bolder in their attempts to get a rise out of you.
I also think we should ask more of people. I just disagree with your idea that not asking them for anything (which is what ignoring is) is the way to go about it.
-
No, because it's a matter of latency and compensation. No amount of hitbox alterations will help with the fact that information cannot travel faster than the speed of light.

@MandyTalk thank you for the background details. Some ideas are great but just need tweaks. Sometimes our pursuit of perfection in a system gets in the way of progress don't you think?
What do you think of these small tweaks that could make it viable:
1) Limit who you can see. I'm honesty not sure what you mean by that.
2) Make it so you can only have a limited number of people who you are able to block at any given time.
3) You referenced "back in the early days", surely the size of DbD has grown by an enormous factor to allow good players to still find games?
No matter how you tweak it, the bottom line is that players should not be able to influence the matchmaker. Can you imagine if literally any other competition worked like that?

It depends, fun is very subjective. I used to play old Doctor I found him fun even if he was not a very strong Killer when they buffed him and made him stronger it lost all his appeal to me. If they were to revert all his changes it would be a huge nerf and I would enjoy playing Doctor again.
Some people enjoy stomping without any kind of oposition, some people enjoy having tougher challenges, so yes, some may enjoy having nerfs, this obviusly applies to Survivors, some will enjoy a harder challenge, others will want to escape without breaking a sweat.
Well, that's definitely not the answer I was expecting and also blows my intended argument out of the water. With that said, I'm curious: do you think "fun" should be the main factor when deciding how to change the game?

That isn't a yes/no question and you know it: the truth about nerfs and changes is invariably complex and boiling it all down to a black and white answer is stupid and, yes, childish. You also deliberately misused the form of the word "argument," also a very immature thing to do. Am I insulting you? Yes. With alarming accuracy.
It's easy to feign accuracy when you're making stuff up about other people. Try answering the actual question, you'll be surprised.
If someone else who shares MadLordJack's opinion wants to answer the question, I'm cool with that as well.

That argument goes both ways. In fact, it applies more to survivors than killers: After all, they have historically had more broken toys, and arguably continue to have more even to this day.
It's a question, not an argument. The argument comes after you answer the question.

No. That is an assumption that you are making, and an annoyingly straw-man one at that. Nowhere did I even imply that the killers fun doesn't matter, only that it matters that EVERYONE is having fun.
Do you think it's fun for killers to have their characters nerfed?

You assume I don't know what I am talking about. I do. I main Deathslinger. He is fun for me to play. He is also an absolute unfun pain in the arse to go against and is genuinely quite boring, and I wouldn't mind the Devs making some form of change to make chases more interactive. There isn't a lot of fun in losing to a Deathslinger, because there wasn't much fun in the match. However, I genuinely enjoy the killer and he is quite challenging for me to play.
I didn't assume anything. I said what your statement looked like. You may not literally be saying that the killers' fun doesn't matter, but when you say something is "not fun for anyone but the killers" (paraphrasing) and then say the fact that it's not fun is why it needs to change, you are effectively working on the notion that their fun doesn't matter.

You do realise that this is not, in fact, a competitive game and, as such, requires it to appeal to the widest range of players because, as we all know, there is some absulutely laughable crap that both sides can utilise.
Please take your competitive mindset back to the competitive gaming world. This is DBD, where losing is absolutely fun if you had an enjoyable experience because it is low stakes. However, amongst other things, killers with uncounterable chase mechanics are not actually "fun" for anyone but the killer and those rare masochists who call themselves "competitive gamers."
Also, the Devs do in fact take balancing tips from people that want to enjoy the game. This is something that they constantly reiterate in every balancing discussion or announcement.
killers with uncounterable chase mechanics are not actually "fun" for anyone but the killer
When you say stuff like this, you make it sound like you don't think the killer's fun matters. In fact, when you automatically exclude and insult everyone who disagrees with your definition of fun, you make it sound like you only care about your fun.
If you don't play to win, you shouldn't care if you lose.
-
That's still basically idea nº 1, actually. It never made it past the PTB stage because survivors abused it.
-
There is no double standard. By playing a certain killer not only do you see their limitations, you will eventually encounter players who have the skill necessary to use their counters, thus experiencing those counters for yourself. By that very same standard, you don't need to be able to counter a certain killer to see other survivors doing it, so even if you lack the skill necessary to use those counters, you can still recognize that they exist and see what they are.
The beef analogy was spot-on (and made me hungry).

i mean u dont need all slowdown, you need a balance of different types of perks to be more successful like usually a tracking, a chase perk and 2 gen regression or 1 gen regression and a healing
But what if that player just wants to use all slowdown perks?

well take pig. why would you only use gen regression when thats here main attribute when u could get tracking and chase which shes lacking in more
Because, as you said, it's her main attribute.
You basically have two types of builds: those that bolster main attributes and those that cover for weaknesses. Both are acceptable.
-
Why wouldn't you run builds that take advantage of a killer's primary attributes? When you play an RPG as a wizard, for example, do you put points into STR to "balance it out"?
-
I agree, it does seem like we're just getting rehashes of existing mechanics. I suggested a completely original killer a while back (at best you could draw some parallels with the Doctor's hallucinations), but it didn't get any traction from the forumgoers.

I rather have the next chapter introduce us to an Egyptian Killer along with two Survivors. One Egyptian male and a Black female from a neighboring country such as Nigeria or Somalia. They should also have plenty of diverse cultural cosmetics and outfits. As much as I love Claudette, we need at least one more Black female.
Id be okay with the Egyptian male being petite though.
Make the Egyptian male look like Rami Malek. He's barely taller than Tom Holland and is of Egyptian descent.
-
Tom Holland is of average height, just FYI. That's not "petite" by any stretch of the imagination, it's just that his costars are typically much taller than he is.

That's easy to say when as a killer only your own skill matter. But when you are playing survivor there's alot of unpredictability. You should still be able to impact the game as a solo player which mean being able to 1v1
I'm a survivor main and no you shouldn't be able to 1v1.
If each survivor was able to 1v1 the killer, you'd have to add 3 more killers to each trial, because now the game is a 4v1 where each individual player is as strong as every other player - including the killer. Either that or just replace the killers with bots, because I guarantee the game would run out of killers in about a week.
This is an asymmetrical game. You're gonna have to learn to deal with the fact that you, as a survivor, are not supposed to be as powerful as the killer. When you play survivor, you signed up to be a victim, not an aggressor. If you want to be an aggressor, that's what the killer role is for.
-
@Koukdw said:
Those perks are needed because survivor base mechanics are too weak compared to killer.
They need to improve the base kit of survivor in order for us to stop relying on second chance
Survivors are supposed to be weak compared to the killer. This is an asymmetrical game, you're not supposed to be able to 1v1 the killer. If the survivors' base kit was improved they'd still use every second-chance perk ever, because it'd make them unstoppable.

You were spoiled. The first video game was monochromatic and there were no Start/Select buttons.
Why do people like to pretend that technological improvements are somehow bad? I'd rather play Crysis if it looks the way it does now than if it looked like it had been made before color screens were invented. It's just objectively better.

Graphics in this case are about atmosphere. DbD wouldn't be the same if every character looked like it was straight out of Deiland (it's a game on Steam, look it up).

Its both a bugfix and a direct nerf if said bug was a buff.
I mean they flatout called the "Your being stalked" music bug that disabled it a buff to michael so...Why not apply that same logic to surveillance?
Bug fixes are neither buffs nor nerfs. Buffs/Nerfs are performed on intended behavior. Bugs are unintended behavior that needs to be removed.
-
@Warcrafter4 said:
An issue with the hype dying down is the fact that the devs are generally speaking far to afraid to let anything but the meta perks be viable.
Heck they are even nerfing surveillance with this patch by making its effect ware off on fully regressed generators forcing even more people into using the insanely stale meta.
Why be hyped for example on the survivor side when the devs are too scared to make anything but exhaustion /second chance/spine chill/kindred perks ever be viable?
No nerf, it's a bug fix. Stop calling fixes "nerfs". A generator at 0% is not regressing and cannot regress, so Surveillance should not work on it.
-
Adding more people wanting to try out the new killer wouldn't solve the issue. If you want to play killer on the PTB, I recommend getting a group of people and using KYF.

Maybe the devs need to have more security etc, it feels like their secrets aren't very well hidden at all, if that's the case why even do a tease of a trailer, I can see what you mean but maybe they need to rethink stuff, I mean I can't recall anyone or maybe I didn't look right of peeps knowing of the plague.
Or if people want to figure things out by themselves, they shouldn't spoil it for themselves.
There's no way to encrypt something in such a way that it will never be cracked, and doing so would just take away development time that could be better spent literally anywhere else.
-
The mystery/suspense was gone the instant people started digging into the game's code to uncover all its secrets instead of looking at the game itself and statements by the devs to piece everything together.
Now there's just unofficial confirmation of content followed by official confirmation of content.
-
I don't think so. Although I loved the film (and my BF tells me the book is even more horrifying), the Beldam by itself isn't that scary unless you know what she's like in the story. Also, I doubt Gaiman would like his work to be in a video game.
-
Assuming you're referring to the aura system being reworked:
If the old system is what's causing the issues, then reworking the system fixes those issues, does it not? Maybe you don't think auras are important, but that's a different matter altogether.

I say "today's people" because everything nowadays has to be about being accepting and inclusive and all that. Like one person can't say an arguably distasteful thing about body hair or the whole thread goes off topic, just like what happened here. That's why I say "today's people" and even more so why I say "in this sort of fashion."
But yes. You're totally right, discussion drift existed before anybody alive today existed. That's irrelevant though. Just like the grooming norm discussion. Thanks.
Yeah, that "argument" isn't new either. Happens every time there's societal progress.

Ranks are an indicator of experience. Someone who just bought the game has absolutely no business in the same match as a green rank player, let alone a red rank player. We can repeat the "rank doesn't equal skill" talking point all day, but experience 100% matters. A system can be working as intended and still be objectively dumb.
Ranks are a much better indicator of how frequently that person has played in the last few rank resets than they are of experience. I've been down to rank 20 after an extended break, despite having a ton of experience.
We should be looking at hours played instead of ranks when it comes to the matchmaking. Right now, if you post a screenshot showing ranks, it'll be dismissed as "not an issue" because that's expected behavior for the MMR. It's like complaining that your lamp is broken by posting a picture of it turned on when the issue is that it keeps turning itself on and off.

I'm literally European. I'm well aware it's a continent since I live on said continent. I'm well aware lots of different cultures exist; hell my Austrian friends are completely different to my German friends, and my German friends are completely different to me. Even my German friends are completely different to each other.
The person I was responding to said this, "Europe has different customs". Nea being European it'd therefore make sense according to their logic.
I must admit though, I'm very much so out of the dating scene. And whilst where I live it's also the norm to shave, there may be places I don't know about where it isn't the normal. This could be where Nea is from.
Nea is Swedish, if memory serves, where the norm is also to shave, at least from what I hear.
The norm in the majority of countries is to shave or at least trim, man or woman.

Why? Because you get sick of facing forever Legions and Freddys, moris, 4k sluggers, iri-heads, tunnelers, campers..

People who get offended by a DC, mostly killers, are just mad they couldn't use their scummy tactics on everyone. A DC on either side just gets a laugh from me.
I get "offended" (I'm guessing you're using "offended" in place of "rightfully pissed off", like most people who say everyone else is "offended" by anything that would and should upset any normal human being) because I'd prefer if my teammates weren't DCing every time the killer sneezed in their general direction.
