I expected it to have some problems, like everything else in programming.
If someone tells you they created a new program and they got it right the first time (i.e.: it has no bugs whatsoever), stay the ######### away from it.

You shouldn’t need to be told that cell won’t fit in a horror game.
He definitely would. In his Imperfect Form he's essentially a walking horror film; at one point you can literally see the souls of the people he absorbed because he uses that to fuel his power.
Thing is, he's too overpowered compared to, well, humans. He'd either be completely broken compared to other killers or pathetically weak compared to the source material.
-
Any villain from DBZ onward would have to be so neutered they'd no longer feel like themselves. This is a hard no from me, despite how much I love DBZ.

Yes, he will go against much higher MMR, get his ass kicked and then the MMR will more or less even itself out (after a few more matches). This is how MMR works. It's not his fault, or the MMRs, these high ranks played like potatoes, even though, according to the OP, he did not even use traps.
Exactly. MMR will essentially throw you against both ends of the pool and try to figure out just the right depth for you. It's like when you're searching for a number and just know if the number is higher or lower than your guess - you continuously divide intervals in two until you get the right number. In fact, I'm betting that's exactly how it works, since it'd lead to a very good estimate over 10 trials.
-
Only if you didn't play any killer at all. There are general skills that apply to all killers, so you won't be matched with someone who tries to gen tap to avoid skill checks or whatever.

When you have a total of ten-ish perks to pick from, you get to max tiers fairly quickly.
Fair enough.
@DecemberMan said:

Wait. When a low rank killer gets wrecked by high ranked survivors, the MMR is considered crap and does not work, "look at the ranks!!1!", but when a low rank killer wrecks high rank survivors "well, ranks don't matter". I'm not talking about you specifically, but the general notion of this forum.
Consider the following:
Assuming this killer's MMR is low and the survivors' is high, the killer's MMR is now inflated by having gone up against players with a higher MMR who massively ######### up. This killer will then face high-MMR survivors as a low-MMR killer and will be absolutely destroyed, which may prompt a thread on the subject to be created. You see where I'm going with this?

Really? He has 1 Trapper perk and 3 general perks, seems pretty indicative of a new player to me
I was focusing more on the tiers of the perks. Also, Bitter Murmur+NOED is a very "old school", yet effective combo. It'd explain the rank 20 as well.

BHVR!!! FIX IT! DON'T KILL THIS GAME PLEAAAAAAAAAAAASE!
And when's the last time you played Clown?

Yup. And looking at the perks, I'd say both sides had about the same amount of experience.

I'll say what I said about NOED supposedly being for bad killers: so what?

Stop pretending that playing skillfully is scummy. Making you lose is not scummy.

By that logic, statistics of any kind should never be released in any form, since they can always be misinterpreted and require an education to be viewed properly.
Oh, no, I definitely want statistics, but putting the onus on BHVR to "present the stats in a way that is clear and understandable in their correct context" is just wrong.

BHVR should work to present the stats in a way that is clear and understandable in their correct context. It is their own fault for the stats being misinterpreted. Eliminating the stat releases entirely was just lazy.
I doubt BHVR has the manpower to give everyone a crash course in statistical analysis as well as bypass inherent biases in the human brain. Because no matter how you present the data, people are going to misinterpret it (just look at COVID-19 mortality stats for proof).

It’s a simple If then code with a else if code attached to it 🤦🏽 Just put it in there.
discourage that kind of behavior. Remember your game isn’t all that complicated of a procedure for both sides. so at least make it fun for everyone. That is the point of playing it, aside from the competitive nature of it.
Punishing the killer due to proximity to the hook was tried and objectively proven to be a failure. No amount of "ifs" can change that.
@SurviveByDaylight said:
Get those loser campers out of the game. There’s no worse feeling as a killer that actually gives it his or her best effort to kill something in the game only to get out scored by a camper. There should be zero reward for that. You can certainly camp all you want. By all means go ahead. But it shouldn’t punish the survivor. I think that guy should at least black pip.
Survivors are the ones losing, though, because they feed the campers. The worst feeling is being camped with Kindred and having your teammates rush the hook anyway. Campers cannot get more points than non-campers unless survivors feed, it's mathematically impossible.

There CAN be players that don't care and march through the trial, and those are the more respectable players. Too bad there's not that many though.
Their numbers will increase if you use secret offerings more regularly, since the others will be busy dealing with extremely long timeouts.

for one I don’t know where to /could not find by googling, a video that proclaims any kind of camping penalty implemented for killers.
even if one were to be installed it can’t be the survivors abusing it if it was the right kind of penalty. That doesn’t make any sense. It’s a simple as - if the killer is within the radius of the hooked survivor for X amount of time, the killer receives the penalty UNLESS there is another survivor within the same radius. There. Done.
Survivors sit outside the radius, but in visual range of the killer. Now what?
@vogit10102 said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1501610#Comment_1501610
I always use it, but you can't do anything if the killer camper and 2-3 survs don't use it. Probably you can finish a gen, but the game is then 4gens with 3 survs. And then again the same strategy.
Sounds like a player problem. The devs created Kindred because survivors wanted a perk exactly like Kindred. Now they just have to use it.

Same for campers/tunnelers. I don't want to play with them again. Why can't we do it BHVR? Why I have to play against the same killer another match when I know how he wants the 4k?
I hear you, it sucks when you lose to strategies you don't know how to counter. Fortunately, you can learn how to counter them.

Keep using them. If people don't want to play the game, they can deal with the DC penalty.

Yes, because camping is not abused by killers
Go work on gens and don't suicide on the hook. Bite the bullet for once. Stop making camping worthwhile for killers.

Because the developers approve. They think it's an interesting part of the gameplay, when it's not interesting to anyone except a few killers who want grief.
I don't think they have dared on the PC version yet, but on mobile, when loading, you may get a message: if a killer is camping, abandon your teammate and repair generators! - lol.
They have totally given up even if the indignation of the players returns every day on this forum, since the beginning of the game.
When a killer is near a generator, do you come to the forum to complain that you can't repair it, or do you ignore that generator and find a new one? It's the same thing with camping - the killer should be able to force you away from certain areas. That's how asymmetrical games work.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1501567#Comment_1501567
How does that get abused by survivors when it’s the killer that does the camping?
Because survivors can force the killer to defend the hook. Seriously, just look up what happened during the very first PTB, which is when the punishment for camping was tried and objectively proven to be a failure.
Camping is a survivor-side problem and has a survivor-side solution, but survivors are unwilling to bite the bullet.
-
@SurviveByDaylight said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/178270/why-is-camping-allowed
I think the killer should just get disconnected or penalized for face camping. Timer counts down once the survivor has been hooked, killer needs to leave the radius of the hooked survivor ( unless another survivor is within the radius as well ) within a set amount of time otherwise the killer receives a penalty of some kind
Penalties for camping* were tried and abused by survivors.
*Face camping doesn't exist any more, just FYI.

If you aren't trying to rescue a team mate, you're a bit selfish. Punishing is a really cocky thing to say.
If you're trying to unhook someone being camped, you're hook farming.

Because it's easily counterable and only works if the survivors feed the killer.

When looking for hatch though, you're more often going to hear it before you see it, so third person view isn't much of an advantage though, right?
It depends on the map and spawn location. If it spawns in an open area, you're more likely to see it before hearing it. It should also be noted that only survivors have perks to provide them with massive, yet short speed boosts. Killer perks to increase movement speed are very constrained (and for good reason).

Listen, again, I'm interested in having discourse on this topic. I'm not trying to say we should take away cosmetics or that Bubba is racist. I'm saying that if you described the entire thing to someone outside of our horror community, they'd likely think it's archaic and weird. Today was the first day I ever thought twice about it. I play with a friend who mains Adam because he likes that they share a resemblance. After getting camped and killing a random Claudette, the killer let me (Kate) and a random Laurie go. He sent my Adam friend a message with a confederate flag and something along the lines of "your life didn't matter" which I am guessing is a remark meant to be a pun on BLM.
All of this to say, it was just disheartening. That someone would go to such lengths to express racism through a game. My friend is more bothered than I was, so I'm trying to be supportive. I honestly don't know what to say. Thanks to those of you who have offered some constructive words I can pass along next time.
Reporting is the best (arguably only) way to deal with these people. Send them a clear message: they are not welcome here.
-
All other things being equal, the person moving more quickly will have the upper hand. However, as we all know, all other things are not equal, starting with the fact that survivors are in third person.
-
Because people either buy into the "reporting does nothing" meme or help spread it despite knowing it's 100% false.
-
I don't see the problem in players going up against others of equal skill, regardless of what they do as a hobby.

Not blaming anyone, simply trying to show you that it does indeed happen, at least you admit its a bug.
I know it happens. I just don't think it's a good enough reason to throw out the whole system.
@Terra92 said:
I mean if a family emergency, or even just my family needs me for something important, I'm disconnecting, I ain't waiting to finish the game while my grandpa needs to go to the hospital.
The issue isn't that itsjust five minutes, it's that nobody wants a mark on their record for occasionally disconnecting due to any number of reasons. We all have our bad days, amd the way the system is advertised it's led to assume these are permanent, if you dc a number of times over a length of time, it stacks up on you.
If you only disconnect during an emergency and aren't someone whose job depends on them being somewhere else at random points in time or people die, you'll be fine. The penalties do stack, but if you don't DC for some time, they reset.

Ah but you see, when you get "disconnected from host" you can 1. still have power 2. still be logged in the game.
So how did someone cut the power, force game crash, disconnect etc,... and still be logged in the game?
It's happened to me.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/82F4X3NCQQQW/banned.jpg
You can have a rock solid connection like i do on fiber and still get "disconnected from the match"
Does it happen to me daily/often? No, but does it happen to innocent players? yes.
That's a bug that should be fixed, but it's not a reason to throw out the whole system. If players hadn't abused disconnections, none of this would be happening, but here we are. Blame the DCers, not the devs.

@Dwight_Fairfield said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1499168#Comment_1499168
Yeah you can do that, but realistically how many people are going to cut the power to their home just so they can back out of a video game. Power cuts and internet crashes can happen that have nothing to do with instability. That's the point. These are things that are beyond a player's control, but they are being punished for it.
If people are so adamant to go and kill the power to their home or pull the plug on their wifi just so they can leave a match, then let them go to that effort. Its a far better alternative than punishing those who got booted for reasons beyond their control. Realistically I can't see most people being in a situation where they can consistently kill the wifi or the power without upsetting other people in their home.
Not to their home, just to their computer. I can do it right now with the push of a button - my extension cord literally has a button to cut off the power to all connected devices. And the answer is "many people". Hell, you can probably just put your computer to sleep, because I doubt the devs would hook into Windows to find out if you were doing something like that.
No, you should not acquiesce just because they're very adamant about making the game worse for everyone else. That's precisely when you shouldn't acquiesce.
-
@Dwight_Fairfield said:
The system should be able to discern between someone rage quitting because there is specific actions you have to do for that, and being booted from the game (power cut, internet crash, game crash etc).
You can cut the power/internet connection yourself or force the game to crash. However, if you know your connection is bad or that the power supply in your region is unstable, you should not be playing online video games. Having a stable internet connection is as much of a requirement for online gaming as your GPU or OS.

I was linked to a post saying ranks don't matter at all and we may see larger disparities in ranks. Which is awful for the ends who face each other a 20 against red Ranks.
How is the queue time longer? If we are being matched with more people?
The whole point of the MMR is to be an accurate depiction of skill, as opposed to the ranking system, which mostly depicts play time.
I took a long break from this game some time ago and wound up back in rank 20, despite my many hours of experience. According to you, I should've been matched with rank 20 killers, as opposed to people who are closer to my skill level, because I was also rank 20, even though I was only rank 20 to begin with because I stopped playing.
If the MMR performs as advertised, rank will be irrelevant for matchmaking. That's to be celebrated, not complained about.

@Splinterverse said:
OP - no. There is a new reason. BHVR is bringing bots to the game to take the place of players who leave. Once that happens, we should be able to DC because at that point, who cares?
Because bots will never be anywhere as good as real human players. They should never remove the penalty. If anything, once the bots come around, they should increase it.
-
If everyone who agrees with removing parts of the game outright had to pay 5 euros to everyone else who enjoys those parts, plus an additional 50 cents per item/offering/perk that they spent time grinding that will now be removed, I'm betting we'd see a lot fewer of these threads and a lot more adaptation.
