What ever happened to DBD's hype?

The hype, the suspense, a little peek here, little peek there....but NO TRAILER, alot of us getting excited, gossiping among ourselves...................................but after Plague, there is no hype.........just, the devs are lacking, it's like running out of fumes, what happened? There isn't any hype, it's just like here it is, on the table, without preperation and nothing offered to get the juices flowing!

  • The mystery/suspense was gone the instant people started digging into the game's code to uncover all its secrets instead of looking at the game itself and statements by the devs to piece everything together.

Now there's just unofficial confirmation of content followed by official confirmation of content.

Maybe the devs need to have more security etc, it feels like their secrets aren't very well hidden at all, if that's the case why even do a tease of a trailer, I can see what you mean but maybe they need to rethink stuff, I mean I can't recall anyone or maybe I didn't look right of peeps knowing of the plague.

  • Too many kids got to peak in their Christmas gifts. Now they’re older and ruining it for everyone involved. 🥴

  • We got a PowerPoint slide of the name of the chapter. Some people are never happy!

Or if people want to figure things out by themselves, they shouldn't spoil it for themselves.

There's no way to encrypt something in such a way that it will never be cracked, and doing so would just take away development time that could be better spent literally anywhere else.

I think they like the leaks, it hypes up gossip, advertisement, is that more improtant now then giving us a peep show ^^ it use to be very cool to have the hype, now it's slapping gruel on my plate then a 3 course dinner

I mean, this killer wasn't leaked until the ptb came out. So even then it was only leaked a couple hours at most before the reveal. A simple trailer the day before was all that was needed.

True, but then some still speculate and not actually are right, even if things are leaked lets have some effort to get interested and hyped least a little for the trailer.

Yes, though I do understand what @Orion means, it's just like, really? I just want the hype, excitment!

  • Hacks or leaks aside, releasing the PTB with so little hype, not even a trailer is a little odd. I like getting excited about the next killer. Why the change in strategy here?

  • An issue with the hype dying down is the fact that the devs are generally speaking far to afraid to let anything but the meta perks be viable.

Heck they are even nerfing surveillance with this patch by making its effect ware off on fully regressed generators forcing even more people into using the insanely stale meta.

Why be hyped for example on the survivor side when the devs are too scared to make anything but exhaustion /second chance/spine chill/kindred perks ever be viable?

Or you know, the devs could prevent uploading code to the PTB before teasing a new killer coming. Nintendo mostly stopped uploading code for future projects or even disguised it as code that could compliment already existing features, heck, sometimes even creating fake code that could fit a fan theory of what people expect from the code to "confirm" their suspicions, only to fake them out and remove that code once the actual release is out.

Also, to be fair, I think there still is hype. Maybe even more hype around people who want to take a sneak peek in the new content. You could avoid most of the new things, or look forward to their release. That way, if the release is gonna be meh, you know beforehand and cant be disappointed. If you know the release is gonna be amazing and change the Meta entirely(looking at you Hex: Undying and Desperate Measures), the hype is actually real. Let alone the potential gameplay the new killer can have once people actually get skilled with it. I said it a few times and im gonna say it again:

I fully, 100%, believe that this killer has the potential to be the strongest killer in the game, without it actually feeling undeserved. Spirit is incredibly strong, but considering how important sound has become for killers, she is a bit too strong considering there pretty much is no telling of when she uses her power and where she exactly is. One game the woosh you hear is very faint and she's right next to you, the other game its very faint and she's on the opposite side of the structure. One time it can be loud and she's next to you, other times, it can be loud while she is on the opposite side of the structure. Not even including Stridor being a thing.

No nerf, it's a bug fix. Stop calling fixes "nerfs". A generator at 0% is not regressing and cannot regress, so Surveillance should not work on it.

Its both a bugfix and a direct nerf if said bug was a buff.

I mean they flatout called the "Your being stalked" music bug that disabled it a buff to michael so...Why not apply that same logic to surveillance?

  • Where's our trailer!

Bug fixes are neither buffs nor nerfs. Buffs/Nerfs are performed on intended behavior. Bugs are unintended behavior that needs to be removed.

This is coming from the same team who admitted to stealth nerfing billy's engraving addons.

Sorry if I don't trust known and self admitted liars.

Stop trying to keep the conversation on topic, you!

  • I will riot! and with fashion! :)

  • I don't want to watch streamers, I want my trailer, literally has been nothing! way to go dbd!

you don't have to look at leaks

  • Even without that there's very little hype simply due to the constant disappointing releases the devs have been putting out.

I haven't been hyped for a survivor in a very long time due to the underwhelming perks they have released for them(Which are the only things to really get hyped about for survivors) and vice versa for killers with the addition of their powers.

Heck out of this update I am only hyped the new map altering offerings sense everything else has been disappointing lately due to overbalancing of every single perk(Looking at you surge and gear head) and power(Outside of his binary pallet/window gameplay PH power is underwhelming).

  • When they're put in the titles of threads or in comments with no warning, they're a little difficult to avoid.

Why are you even in places that show leaks in the first place?

Because there's other stuff I want to see. Is that bad?

  • At some point I am sure they are going to have a "reveal". Unfortunately it will be an anti-climax as by then, we'll all have had a glimpse of the killer, or watched a video on him/her. I really liked the build up to Candyman (even though it turned out to be Pyramid Head). The hype for a killer we didn't get was bigger than the hype for one that is already out on the PTB!

  • This is a killer that has been teased for 2 years. The least they could have done was show the importance of this character in relation to the story within the fog right now. He is one of the few characters to actually research the Entity, as well as one to experiment on the killers, and hunt for Vigo. They actually have a unique motivation compared to other killers, yet that is kept silent. It is all a bit of a letdown.

agrees with you, i mean we all was hyped with the plague and that onion looking thing but i think the hype was left there as we haven't had such since, well what i think...
