BHVR just worked on grabs, they know its broken right now. But they released it anyways saying it was fixed. They should have told us that we can still expect grabs to cancel sometimes, they should have told us it would trigger random killer's powers. They didn't. That's lying.
Yes, because they absolutely knew those things would happen.
Like I said, people go from "buggiest game ever" to "everything bad is 100% intended" at the drop of a hat.

If that's how it works then I'll gladly ticket report anyone I manage to record in the act but the very next thought I'm getting is:
"what about the huge number of false reports? Don't they slow down the efficiency of the vaccine process massively?"
Or do you exclusively mean ticket reports with video evidence rather than in-game only reports (aka salt reports)
I mean reports with evidence. You are right that false reports slow down the system, just like in any other situation, which is why I believe the devs have been too lenient on people reporting for camping/tunneling/looping/whatever. IMO, those people should be shown actual reasons for reporting the first time, then banned from reporting anyone if they keep filing false reports.

You could ask the opposite: why should the game be realistic? IMO, the game doesn't need to be realistic.

It's not happening every single game but frequently enough to make one lose interest.
Faced a total of 4 hackers yesterday 2 of who I were able to ticket-report as I managed to record them in the act (instahealing themselves from the ground in my face infinitely).
On top of that there's the 'secret' hackers who are good at hiding 'hacked actions' so no one notices it.
Suddenly a person is healed even though you JUST hit them and broke chase to pressure a gen or a gen popped even though you JUST checked it or a survivor you chased runs around a corner and as you come around said corner they suddenly have 'way more distance than they should have'.
Try to prove that there was a hack involved.
Reporting is not useless but it's only fighting the symptoms.
What BHVR needs to do is update the anti cheat or switch to another anti cheat provider. EAC is doing a terrible job.
It's not happening every single game but frequently enough to make one lose interest.
And that's why I'm staying away from DbD until this passes. I don't understand why someone would willingly subject themselves to hackers.
Reporting is not useless but it's only fighting the symptoms.

Slight misconception. There is no anti-cheat in the universe that can prevent cheats that don't exist yet. Any other anti-cheat would be just as screwed when it comes to new cheats emerging. Reports help because then the anti-cheat can figure out ######### is going on and detect those cheats.
Think of the anti-cheat like a series of vaccines for different (but similar) diseases. You need the disease to emerge before you can create the vaccine for it, because there's no way for you to know what a new disease is going to be like in advance.

So you have no idea the complex nature that is the report function. Its not a press the button and done. Maybe take a minute to explore the process before complaining that people are not doing it.
I already said that I know how the report function works, though. Here:

No, since I haven't experienced hacking and whatnot on the scale some people seem to be experiencing. However, I do know how it works and I fully agree it needs to be improved so that sending proof is easier. However, if you don't report anyone, then don't complain that nobody gets banned. Mods aren't psychic or omniscient.
And then you accuse me of not reading comments. This one was even directed at you.
-
No, at the moment I'm just not playing because everyone keeps saying how hacker-infested the game is. Why would I play a game if, apparently, I'll be playing against hackers every other game? As for my MMR, your guess is as good as mine, since there's virtually no way to tell.
-
If you're referring to your first comment in this thread, no, I didn't. I don't see why I should have, seeing as how I was replying to someone else.

Things like this are rarely a bug.
It's funny how DbD goes from "buggiest game ever" to "this is definitely intended and the developers just lied" at the drop of a hat, depending on what (supposedly) makes the devs look worse.

The reason people are putting it out for people to see is because BHVR won't do anything, even with reports. They are simply spreading the word and hoping that BHVR will take notice.
It's no wonder they think BHVR doesn't do anything when they don't bother reporting anyone and instead post it on the forum to "spread the word".

That can't be true, why would they change it from the old system they could have just left it and slapped a bp prize to each colour group.
Then again this is BHVR so anything is possible
Because they wanted to improve the matchmaker. This has been in the works for over a year now, if I'm not mistaken.

That’s not why it’s annoying. It’s annoying because the person on hook gets taken out the game, when they had another potential “chance” at playing. Just like when the killer is nowhere near the hook and cowardly teammates leave you on there to die. That’s all it is. Win or lose, people just want an opportunity to play the match with all their “lives.”
Potential chance. Not guaranteed chance.
What people need is to understand that they don't have a set number of chances, and that a potential chance isn't the same as a guaranteed chance. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

No.

Reporting is the bare minimum you need to do for the mods to know where to start. It's like being robbed and refusing to go to the police because you "don't want to do their job for them". They're not psychic, they don't know what you're seeing in your trials.

They have since launch to fix the problem. the more that see and use it the merrier imo :)
See my analogy with the janitor for why that doesn't work.
If you make a bigger mess, it just takes longer to clean. Cleaning each thing always takes the same amount of time, even if it's done a million times in 10 seconds. The janitor doesn't suddenly gain magical powers if there's a bigger mess to clean. Likewise, programmers don't suddenly develop magical insight into what's causing the problem just because more people are exploiting.
I have no idea why the "bigger mess=gets cleaned more quickly" mentality is so pervasive. It's like starting forest fires because you think firefighters are taking too long to fix the one they already have.

Why not? its up to the devs to patch it out.
For the same reason that just because it's a janitor's job to clean up after you, doesn't mean you should ######### all over the place. If this is indeed an exploit, showing how to do it just makes the problem (and game) worse.

Hard to claim BHVR is lying if they would be more open, though. If they had simply stated they were sorting out a licensing issue then the fake tweet would have been impossible. Yes, they would have more egg on their face - but they should - it was a screwup.
It's actually very easy to claim BHVR is lying regardless of anything else, because liars don't care about the truth.

I asked a hacker that basically gave me a confirmation on that, first if you family share you lose the secondary account for 7 days, your main account nothing happens on the first violation.
Then you can come back and get banned again for hacking then you lose family share, then you can do the same in the main account.
Also there are people selling steam accounts for 5 dollars with dbd on it.
So 5 bucks + hacks that you may have then rinse and repeat until the end of times.
Easy anti cheat is from what I read, one of the worst anti cheats in the whole anti cheat industry.
Some say that it is very easy to also evade VAC bans so I wouldn't be surprised.
Just for the record, you are aware you're trusting the word of someone whom you know is a dirty cheater, right? It's like asking a liar for the truth and believing him.
@Myla said:

It was a sad display, I had it recorded but lmao forum be protecting cheaters.

The recording can be shown if you don't show the names, though. Besides, the recording is supposed to go to the devs, to complement an in-game report. We regular users can't do #########.
The forum has a no name-and-shame policy because I can easily make a video showing "you" (i.e.: someone with your name) saying something racist in the chat or whatever, post it here, and start a witch hunt.

The people who spread false info will just claim you're being dishonest.
You can't fight people who are acting in bad faith by ignoring them, because reality doesn't matter to them, only spreading their lies does.

Boot if you go above 100 ping*
100 ms ping in 2021 is inacceptable, on any game.
Ping is primarily the result of the distance between players and servers, relative to the speed of light. How is it being 2021 supposed to change the laws of physics?
-
As killer, down them and walk away. There was an old bug where survivors couldn't move and that's the only thing that fixed it, so it's basically automatic at this point.
As survivor, sigh and move away.

Boot the killer from the game if they are consistently getting 200+ ping. Either they are VPNing or they have ungodly internet which in that case they shouldn't be playing the game either.
The ping is relative to the VPN's servers, though, since the game's server is being tricked into believing that's where the signal is coming from.

Wow, really good explanation. It’d be nice if there was an easy way for the server to wait until the server registers the hit before sending the scream SFX to the killer client, but definitely don’t trust the current dev team to not screw that up.
Very easy to do, but then you'd notice lag in every single interaction, because the information would have to be transferred to the server, the server would need to process it, then send it back to you - and information can only travel at the speed of light (at most).
-
Why is chasing 3 survivors for 30 seconds each (minimum) that big a deal? I'm not sure I get the problem.

In that case, my bad, I am still relatively new. The distinction has never been relevant anywhere else I have ever been.
It's usually the distinction wherever I go. I mean, if someone opens a porn thread, for instance, are you going to lock the thread, keeping the content around, or are you going to delete it, and eliminate the problem?
-
@gilgamer said:

the rules explicitly forbid posting leaks not talking about it, they say to avoid not nearly as much of a hard stance.
What exactly do you believe is the difference between posting "Guys, here's a leak" and "Guys, here's what this leak I saw said" that makes one OK and the other not?
-
@ThiccBudhha said:

You could lock leak threads, as they generally do regarding any threads against the rules. You need to address that point to merit sarcasm after pulling the "everything is a conspiracy, data mined info is fake, the WHOLE WORLD IS CRAZY... Except for me, I have le critical thinking skills, uwu."
Threads are locked if the rule-breaking is going on inside the thread. They get deleted if the rule-breaking is the thread. That's standard procedure (and logical), from what I've observed.

I mean, outright deleting discussion is sus, you do not need to be Sherlock Holmes to commit to less mental gymnastics. There is only one plausible explanation as to why they would outright delete as opposed to lock a thread fam. Get your thinking cap on, homie.
Yes, you're right. There's really only one reason. That reason being that the rules explicitly forbid discussing leaks (real or not).

If they make your score visible then you can verifiably confirm if the other threads were in fact correct, also it never would have been a problem if they had made it transparent from the get go
If they make your score visible then you can verifiably confirm if the other threads were in fact correct
Or not, because there's a lot going on in a trial that can affect your score. However, that's irrelevant because, again, the conspiracy-minded people will claim they're right anyway.
also it never would have been a problem if they had made it transparent from the get go
BHVR is transparent with a lot of things and still gets accused of not being transparent with those things. Like I said, it doesn't matter what they do.
-
It makes no difference what BHVR says or does, because the people who keep making those threads will just use it as "proof" that they're right.
Just like I said in a thread that was deleted:
- If it gets deleted, it's because the conspiracy is true and "they" (every conspiracy theory has a faceless "they") are trying to hide it.
- If it gets ignored (or, more likely, not noticed), it's true because otherwise "they" would deny it. This is a very common way to try to get a reaction of of "them", after which, if successful, the people move on to the above point.
- If "they" deny it, "they" are obviously lying and the conspiracy is true.
There's no winning here, because everything just feeds into the conspiracy. What would be the point in BHVR lifting a finger (beyond enforcing the rules)?
-
@EXPERIMENTONGOD said:
Quite simple. Bandwith costs "them" money.
Your PC patching the game for over 15 minutes doesn't cost them money (it costs YOU money because your PC uses more power).
So they're transfering the "cost" of updating the game to the customer so to speak.
Brilliant if you think about it.
BHVR doesn't pay Steam for the bandwidth. Even if they did, bandwidth is dirt cheap; it's the consumers who overpay for bandwidth, not companies. There's no "transfer of costs".

Developing a backup plan around the hatch and hoping for the best.
-
This is what I read on the subject, but take it with a grain of salt nonetheless. I'm also paraphrasing, obviously.
To make loading faster, developers started making files bigger, placing a lot of information in "chunks". The result is that everything loads faster, at the cost of having to unpack/repack files with each and every update.
See, loading is mostly bottlenecked by the CPU, not the disk itself, at least past a certain read speed, due to having to "coordinate" the read/write operations. Larger files allow loading to be more efficient from the CPU's perspective, since it's a smaller list of things to load.
