For the most part, we are happy with the way The Hillbilly performs.

His power is very versatile, allowing him to quickly traverse the map, zone out Survivors and instantly down them. From a Survivor’s perspective, there is also a reasonable amount of counterplay, leading to interesting chases where the best player often comes out on top.

Given that we’re already pretty happy with the way The Hillbilly performs, the changes to his base kit are minimal. We are not removing any of the options you have with his chainsaw (traversal, feathering, curving, etc.). Instead, we want to focus on the skill-based gameplay and put an emphasis on using your chainsaw effectively, only adding a small drawback to misusing your chainsaw.

In 4.1.0, The Hillbilly’s chainsaw will now feature a new Overheat mechanic. Revving the chainsaw will now cause it to accumulate heat, which can be seen both in the lower left corner around the power icon and on the chainsaw itself. Sprinting with the chainsaw will also cause it to heat up as a much lower rate. This heat will dissipate over time whenever the chainsaw is not being used.

If the Overheat meter fills up completely, it can no longer be used until it has completely cooled down. When this happens, it will cool down at an increased rate. If the chainsaw overheats as you are sprinting, your sprint will not be interrupted.

The goals behind this change is to add a small drawback to misusing the chainsaw, and to add a bit more depth to the chainsaw with resource management.

  • All they had to do was remove charge time but I guess they don’t like fun killers. Don’t worry though spirit is still the same :(

  • Just stop playing him. As most people did. Once his pick rate drops to 0, they´ll probably do something.

  • I just want to vs old Billy again.

The overheat is barely noticeable unless you're using double engravings. He's still strong and fun

Except for the janked animations sure

I do still like and play him but the nerf was still completely unnecessary.

  • It’s been an entire year since this change and yet billy hasn’t been touched. But huntress doesn’t get nerfed, blight gets 4-5 changes in 6-7 months. Trickster gets 4 changes done in 4 months. Clown keeps his overpowered pinky finger. They have a huge hate bias towards Billy

Keep in mind that a certain developer, you probably know who, said THIS killer was OP while Clown was underrated because people haven't been properly using him or something.

Edit: Apparently this wasn't sincere so mb.

  • He just needs an addon rework. Too many of the addons have downsides.

Huntress was nerfed in that time.

  • I love having to wait over a year and a half for BHVR to fix Billy's animations and still getting nothing when Blight gets his fixed in 6 months.

But there's literally no reason to play Billy over Oni right now. Oni is superior in nearly every way.

  • Stbfl double engravings meta /s

It is so fun to have 2 cooldowns in 1 killer!!.

Honestly if people had issues before with basekit billy they were the problem.

"Overheat barely does anything!" Sure buddy, only limits skill cap and interesting stuff you can try, it is so fun messing 1 chainsaw because survivors teleport from 1 side to the other and almost get overheated.

Engravings need a massive buff to compensate for the crap overheat mechanic.

Too many devs got reverse chainsawed while hiding in a corner.

  • We are talking about the same company which nerfed Freddy merely a week after its release, which nerfed Pig over and over again for no reason at all, and almost nerfed Demo's best add-on.

Trying to understand is pointless. All we can do is hope that Billy will get some love in the future, something that probably won't happen.

  • Come on, they literally said "for the most part", but everyone's acting like they said "we're 100% satisfied and have no intention of changing him in any way whatsoever".

This is why the devs don't communicate with us. They say X, people distort it to mean Y.

This is but one little detail. 4 words more, 4 words less...it doesn't matter.

The point is: they nerfed Billy, regarded by many as the "golden standard" of DBD balance for killers. I doubt they even took Billy mains into consideration.

Actually no, I doubt they took the community itself into consideration. NO ONE wanted Billy to get nerfed, and they did it anyway. This change is hated to this day and hasn't being reverted yet. Heck, they haven't even acknowledged the fact that everyone hates it.

This is unacceptable, in my honest opinion.

I love you Orion, but please consider people's perspectives on this.

Billy was a balanced killer before the rework, the only thing that needed changes were his add-ons. His base-kit was completely fine and the majority of the playerbase didn't have a problem with him.

That's why so many people are upset about it, Billy didn't need the overheat mechanic at all.

To be fair, if the nerfs to Billy really are as heavy as people allege, then "for the most part" isn't really accurate either, is it?

The same developer also made it clear that, and i quote: "We don't know why freddy is overperforming, just that he is when you look at the numbers"

For the most part means adding an entire new mechanic and changing pretty much all his addons and animations? I don't even feel like im playin the same billy base. (Not because of the overheat but because of animations and fov) They also even said the changes where "minimal" everything changed...?

There is a big old post on the bug section that the devs apparently refuse to acknowledge which explains the problems.

    @Stale said:

Hillbilly has been messed up for almost a year now. Since the 3.7.0 update went live, a plethora of bugs were introduced to him despite no changes being made to him in the patch notes. While some of them were eventually fixed, the team never bothered to look into the change in animations and camera. Ever since the update, the animations when using the chainsaw have just felt off and very janky compared to how they use to be. The changes in animation are not new; they are broken and messed up. It's quite common now for chainsaw hits to look incredible weird and undeserved from a survivor's perspective. There have also been issues on Hillbilly's end. For example, when chainsawing a survivor vaulting a pallet, it will prioritize the pallet break over the hit almost every time no matter how you time it. There have also been a few cases where chainsawing a pallet will just make you bump rather than breaking it.

    (Screenshots Taken from OhTofu's Videos)

    (Pre 3.7.0)

    (Post 3.7.0)

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/OD1YW438SURI/billyr.png

As shown above, the camera angle was changed for no reason whatsoever. While this may not seem like a huge deal at first, this change has made it so that a good majority of his weapons are barely visible on the screen now. This issue can be fixed with shadowborn or a stretched resolution.

Below are two clips showcasing the change in the first person chainsaw attack animation.

Clip of how chainsawing looked before the 3.7.0 update: https://streamable.com/6lu4ls

Clip of how chainsawing looks now: https://streamable.com/2g340r (Clip from Moody)

The difference is pretty clear; with the exception that shadowborn was being used.

I'm unable to go into detail about every single bug as it would take far too much time to gather proper evidence (comparing the animations), but it's baffling that this hasn't been solved despite all the time and reports that have gone by. These changes have caused a lot of people I know, including myself, to no longer enjoy playing this killer. If anyone is wondering why there aren't any billy mains left, this is why. I would just like for this to be acknowledged and/or to have some sort of priority if the devs are already aware.

The clips shown are only when he hits a survivor with the chainsaw though; the extremely annoying thing is when you sprint and stop, where the camera moves all over the place forcing you to look down in a nauseating way.

Just look at any Billy gameplay of 2019/early 2020 and compare that to any recent one.

  • Billy is that killer that gets punished for having fun (Which is why I hate how dbd's balance has gone so much to where I am barely playing the game anymore, because they showed alot more care about the game 2-3 years ago compared to now where updates barely get anything changed and we constantly get perks nobody will use)

Billy was the perfect killer basekit wise when it came down to balance, all he needed was an add-on pass and that was it, but instead we get a killer where almost every add-on is god awful, he is punished for doing fun techs, and somehow his animations became jank. He once was a high played killer because he was the perfect combo of strong and fun, but now he is kinda strong and unfun, I miss old billy

The changes to his base kit were minimal and he definitely takes more skill to play. large majority of Billy players before the change (including myself) were relying way too much on add ons

He didn't use to limp and jiggle the camera all over the place. You have little skips and stutters when you change directions now. You use to be able to see the full head of the hammer plus a decent part of the handle giving a wider fov. Now they shoved the camera so far forward that you can only see the top of the hammer and have a MASSIVE deadzone infront of you

    Same.

But sometimes it goes like: "get 4 hits after a blink while playing Nurse" skip "hit 4 survivors with a fully charged shred, while playing Demodoggo" skip "get 4 downs after fully exposing a survivor as Ghostface" (thats usually the moment my eye starts twitching)

I skip nurse cause i cant play her

I skip billy cause 3 chainsaw downs when you almost never pmayed him is impossible

I skip Demo because 5 shreds FULLY charged isn't optimal and kinda hard to do when survivor plays well

  • I think that Billy should get a better hitbox for his chainsaw and that recovery animation should not lead to him looking at his feet.

The hitbox is so tiny I sometimes miss survivors who are maybe half an inch next to me and still big enough for me to bounc off a bush on Haddonfun (bouncing off...a bush...with a chainsaw...urgh...). This make for no good feeling and makes me think that his hitbox should be a bit more forgiving.

His recovery itself is fine bumping should be punished and I can deal with that. However that Billy looks at his feet is just bad. He is not Nurse with a gamebreaking ability that needed a downside, he is just Mr. Billy with a chainsaw.

I love Billy. He was the first Killer I played and his Perks are top notch for a beginner in my opinion. His power combinds a insta down with map mobility and is fun to use, his chase music is dope and his story is sad. Even thou I prefere more subtle Killers now I enjoy myself a good game of Billy from time to time. He is a good piece of work. This is why I think a few tweaks would be welcome.

because of this new information we have added 10 new cosmetics to the in-game store and have made changes to the power of the spirit, she will now be highlighted in a yellow aura when she is standing still and not fading. We feel that this will help with the more casual players and encourage them to continue spending money in our shop.

Thanks for playing, see you in the fog 😘

(this is all sarcasm by the way... ish)

  • I thought the nerf was inevitable, but I don't understand why other killers (SPIRIT, BLIGHT,etc) are allowed and Billy is not. Billy is a fun killer to use on your own or to meet on Survivor. I wish I could meet him more often.

You may need practice, my friend. A fully charged demo shred is sometimes the ONLY way to get a hit on survivors playing well.

Depends how terrible your ping is. If you have good ping (30 and under) then survivors will probably react and you will miss. If you have trash tier ping then you will think huntress hatchets are easy and all ranged killers never miss.

  • Cause remember everyone, we LOVE when Billy isn't using his Chainsaw! I'm glad it was given an annoying, limiting cooldown, because normal M1 killers are SO fun and interesting to play against, and constantly counterplaying the chainsaw DEFINITELY IS NOT fun! MORE people should be discouraged from playing Billy due to how obnoxious and unfun he is! Thanks for the totally not tone-deaf change to a totally overpowered killer, BHVR!

The way i play him, around loop i need the smallest shreds possible to get them quickly at à vault or pallet tbh, each gameplay differs, but since fully charging it takes about a second its not the way i play usually haha

    (Or not in my situations)
