I feel this should be happening in the PTB and not the mainline game? why is there so many changes that need to occur? She shouldn't be released in this current state.

because it's a live balanced PVP game, and she's a new character. this is totally normal. she got adjustments from PTB, now they're being pulled back within a couple weeks in 2 dedicated back-to-back hotfixes.

I know DBD conditioned a lot of people to only accept balance changes in dedicated PTB, but getting them in HOTFIXES is WAY better for urgent adjustments and it's far more alike literally every other live balance PVP game out there. this is good. in the past 9 years, we'd traditionally only get a follow-up patch on a killer MAYBE in the following PTB, if we were insanely lucky. anything slightly larger took 1/2 a year or longer.

    this is, what, 2 weeks?

you can criticize them all you want for her release state, but this sort of quick hotfix follow-up is totally fine and expected.

  • "1 PWYF token (which is about 5.75% Haste)."

    giant lie

  • @kaneyboy said:

The devs missed the mark completely and changed things that weren’t even a problem. Feels like a slap in the face tbh.

they said this patch was just the first of 2, at least. the next hotfix is intended to be the follow-up to all the feedback so far. what's so wrong with them fitting in some quick changes for this hotfix?

  • It feels really bad, even worse than PTB despite the charge movement speed increase.

The duration was gutted but it was given no speed buff, which I woulda liked. Without it, the distance gain is kinda terrible.

I'm guessing because it's a simple number change on Oni, I think pretty much everyone would agree, that a simple number change on Twins won't really do anything.

I would advocate for temp Haste for Charlotte following a Victor down + brief Killer Instinct on the down when swapping back

Legion didn't have an unique music during their problematic release, my friend. They used the default themes.

    that's the other partial reason

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/451726/please-give-springtrap-the-same-wind-up-time-as-huntress

Huntress has movement speed penalty and window where she cannot attack. Spingtrap also does have window where he cannot attack, but he has very minimal movement speed penalty during the cooldown as well as he moves faster with axe up and has more generous hitbox. Also Spingtrap on top of great zoning has free teleport to every generator on the map with no cooldown, granting him long lasting undetectable. Springtrap defienetly doesn't need any buffs. The buffs to Huntress were also questionable as you had to dodge her 5 hatchets and as reward the chase was over and it happend rarely but now she has two extra so even less reward for dodging, more snowball potential. I really wish they focus or killer designs like Houndmaster, Unknown and Wesker who are all very balanced while also fun to play and fun to play against.

Spingtrap also does have window where he cannot attack, but he has very minimal movement speed penalty during the cooldown

How did this blatantly false myth get so widespread? Just gonna repost the same reply I made earlier…

    • Springtrap has a 2-second throw recovery at which he slowly moves 2.76m/s
    • Huntress has a 2-second throw recovery where she moves at quickly at 3.74 m/s.

Her post-shot cooldown is better than his by a large margin - moving about +36% faster than he does on top of having really great recovery addons.

I personally think huntress feels pretty good to play like this.

I actually think it's the perfect middleground:

You can simply tap rightclick one time and aim/flick during the windup to instantly throw the hatchet perfectly, at the same time it doesn't take ages. Of course killers with a windup need a specific timing at palettes, around objects or corners, but in general it doesn't make them clunky instantly in my opinion.

Tradeoff is a tremendously slow projectile. It's nice because you can arc it, but for it being her only power, a 0.9s windup for a super slow projectile on a 4.4m/s killer is kindaaa…

but I don't care too much, just my thoughts

  • @Valimure said:

He also has no cooldown where he's slowed after throwing it, whereas Anna does. In fact, he actually gets faster after throwing it.

He also doesn't have to spend time reloading, and he has one of the fastest cross-map traversal teleports in the game.

Don't think he needs any buffs; he's honestly one of the more balanced killers on release we've had in awhile.

    Uhh that's blatantly, provably false.

    • Springtrap has a 2-second throw recovery at which he slowly moves 2.76m/s.
    • Huntress has a 2-second throw recovery where she moves at quickly at 3.74m/s.

Her post-shot cooldown is literally better than his by a large margin.

  • not likely to come back, sorry. wouldnt be surprise if they change the current music to something new too.

hell, i wouldnt be surprised if they changed her base skin a this point lol

  • it was changed when she got her rework partially to aid with the PTSD of playing against 3gen merchant lol

  • what's the problem with the killer downing you again?

  • Cages really need more use. Quickhooking is offset by the fact that they also get quick and safe rescues from them. There is way too much of a tradeoff. The reason people would use them is for tunneling, which I'm glad is being nerfed, but there's nothing to compensate for this.

  • lighting/post in this game really is rough. i hope the full game gets a nice modern lighting pass.

  • i hate it. this is close to the worst outcome for a primary ability for this guy. just a bad bad bad BAD adaptation.

second half of the power is really cool, i love it. i am just crushed about the random huntress 2.0 for a killer that is well-known to be about close-range brutality, stealth, deception, and phantoms lol

  • glad people are seeing through this.

cannot be fooled by the "150%" looks like a big number, but it's +50% of barely anything.

Coming back to this one, I appreciate you breaking out your specific thoughts for each piece of the preview! On the controlling of drones, I see you mentioned you like the idea of this, but not the proposed version.

Is there something specific that you would find rewarding if it were wrapped into the drone control mechanic?

    I'll throw in my feedback

I think there are some gameplay issues (on paper) similar to Victor's (slugging and counter-slugging, the main killer feeling like a pick-up janitor, the power simply chalking up to being another dash) but I'd put my 2 cents on the thematics and killer fantasy because it's obviously super important for a rework.

This killer has always felt tactical, using drones to get her close to her targets so she can kill them herself. The proposed rework doesn't fulfill this. My problems are:

    • Flying drones into people feels wasteful for the character. I'd think these are tools that she cares for, not just disposable kamikaze weapons.
    • There's really nothing that she can do on her own. Her lethal power is entirely delegated to the drones.

I'm spitballing here. It would be more in-line with the character, if she could, say, control the drones (great idea), but must accurately shoot claw traps from them, which apply whatever effects. With a Claw Trap attached to a Survivor, then she has the ability to pull up the Radar, keep a steady aim at the Survivor to charge up a pulse or detonation, slowing/stunning/damaging once locked-on.

If you're to add some sort of mechanical requirement to the killer, it'd feel a lot more fitting if it were aim-based instead of dash-based lol.

they don't count transformations as different entities. they only count different entities if it changes how POWER graphic specifically works. for example changing Knight's hand from green marker to red marker is no-no. they do not allow any graphic power changes.

they don't do ANY power changes. even clientside they havent because of prehistoric code. unless it's been restructued, the last word we've ever gotten on this was in regards to a severe technical limitation.

  • @Devil_hit11 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/428620/can-dev-confirm-wolf-bat-form-are-powers-so-they-would-traditionally-be-unaffected-by-cosmetics

they're killer power but dev can give skins if killer controls said character directly. giving skin to wolf is same as giving skin to chucky.

what skin is talking about is giving sub-set killer powers for example giving skins to Knight's Carnifex, Assassin and Jailer. Giving skins to Victor. Giving skins to Nemesis's zombies. So far, BVHR is against giving skins to these type of killer powers because these type of skins are counted as graphic effect for killer powers. It is like giving clown Dark blue bottles and Red gas bottles as a skin. I think they're against it because it makes game less readable for newer players. A new player might not understand that red bottle = pink gas and dark blue bottle = yellow gas.

If you give victor a skin or you give Assassin a skin on knight, people might understand that skin is assassin or that skin is victor. it creates readability issues.

i think that's solveable if they're just clientside or toggleable. that's halfway disappointing but readability is not an issue in that case and people are still happy.

"they're killer power but dev can give skins if killer controls said character directly" if you can source me I'll gladly accept what you're saying but as far as I have ever known, anything power related is off limits which is why we've never seen that before, still. as far as I am concerned, wolf is still subset as it requires power usage.

If there's no screenshot, then your proof is anecdotal and I'm not willing to take it on faith that bhvr would outright admit to intentionally killing a character to ensure nobody plays them.

We agree on the legality. We disagree on the notion of letting people ask for compensation. It creates misunderstandings, and can set a dangerous precedent if bhvr capitulates.

You never asked anybody for proof, so who would assume you needed any?

At the end of the day, yes, we fundamentally disagree. The REAL dangerous precedent would be forums and communication lines disallowing players/customers to… make an informal request for compensation if they're dissatisfied with a service... This is a fundamental aspect of customer relations, regardless of a legal or contractual basis existing. This has always been a thing, will always be a thing, and has never set a "dangerous precedent" in the entire history of consumerism.

  • @Kaitsja said:

It is a made-up narrative. They confirmed the changes are intended. The community took that for a ride and said, "See?! They're killing SM so no-one wants to play her!" People have posted the screenshot, and nowhere does it confirm that Mandy directly said that the changes are intended to kill SM, so that no-one plays her.

You have no earthly idea why I gave you a bloated reply? Let's see, how about the part where you said that the request for a refund has some validity? There is no validity to the request, because BHVR makes zero assurances in regards to the strength of a character's kit. Something that was somehow lost on you, evidently.

There is no validity to the request. In the event that SM was removed from the game, people would be entitled to a refund. Being changed, however, is part and parcel of a live-service game.

It wasn't a screenshot, it was a back-and-forth that I was there for.

OP is (respectfully) stupid in bringing legality into it obviously, we agree on this and that's why I do not understand why you keep bringing up entitlement or obligation to me. Obviously there is no entitlement or obligation on BHVR's behalf, I said this in my first comment and it has nothing to do with my statement. I don't think you're understanding that you and I agree on 95% of this issue. My statement boils down to "Let people ask for compensation even if the chances of getting it are 1%, because what do they have to lose?" I think it's silly personally, I don't think it'll happen, but I'm not gonna shame anybody for it given the context. It IS common practice in online games for developers to throw bones at unhappy players, so why blame people for asking for one?! lol

  • @Kaitsja said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3801717#Comment_3801717

BHVR has been pretty transparent about why they're nerfing SM. The whole "They're doing it so nobody plays SM" thing is people making up a narrative that suits what they believe, not what's actually happening.

As a reminder, they don't need to share their reasoning with us. They can change anything at any time for any reason and are under no obligation to be transparent with the community about why they're doing it.

Currently, survivors are either outright disconnecting or just giving up against SM. She isn't fun to play against, and it's not a matter of her being boring despite that being the opposite of fun. It's that she's frustrating to play against. The nerfs are to alleviate that frustration until her eventual rework.

When you buy a character, you are paying for a revocable license to use that character. You are paying for the character model itself. BHVR makes zero assurances in regards to the strength of their kit. The only assurance they make is that the character is playable.

First of all, it is not a made-up narrative, I witnessed them confirm it live.

Secondly, I said multiple times in my post that BHVR is not obligated or compelled legally or by any other standard to provide compensation or explanation. The entire point of my post, which could not have been clearer, is that requesting compensation is something people are entitled to do in the case that BHVR intends to pad out the backlash, which BHVR does not HAVE to do, but may WANT to do. BHVR can decline this request and everybody has to move on. End of story. The point is there's no downside for requesting compensation anyway given the intention of the change. I'm not requesting it, but I'm not shaming them for it either.

I have no earthly idea why you still chose to give me a bloated reply about how BHVR isn't obligated to do XYZ, that BHVR doesn't make ABC assurances, and that you only license 123, when my first statement was literally "I obviously disagree with the notion this is illegal or genuinely punishable" and my last statement was "Nothing legally compels BHVR or any seller to do this."

"I would like an auric cell refund as the changes made to the character are intended make them entirely ineffective so players do not play her,"

The devs never said that though. That's what a content creator has claimed Mandy said when she didn't and now a bunch of people have ran with it. Typical of the internet tbh. The changes were never so people stop playing her. So I guess good luck to folks wanting to claim a refund based on that.

What kind of baseless claim is that? I was there and witnessed Mandy saying it firsthand. I saw her own comments live in chat. There is no disputing it. The official DBD reddit account also supports Mandy's comments.

  • @Nazzzak said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3800357#Comment_3800357

My point was that they have changed, at one point or another, every single killer in this game. As well as a large chunk of the perks. So yeah, if they had to refund every single one of those purchases it would not be good for the bottom line. Skull Merchant isn't special.

I obviously disagree with the notion this is illegal or genuinely punishable, but their request has at least a little validity if it's "I would like an auric cell refund as the changes made to the character are intended make them entirely ineffective so players do not play her," which is obviously different from "I would like an auric cell refund because my character's power was nerfed a little bit". The latter is an attempt to balance a character, the former is a deliberate attempt to ruin the balance of a character, so it's going to get waaay more pushback. If people buy something and it's intentionally ruined so its not appealing to use ever, then the consumer will likely request compensation in some form. Nothing legally compels BHVR or any seller to do this, it's just appealing to their morality and people are honestly valid for doing so lol, cause why not?

  • I don't know. We've got addons applying it for 45 seconds now. So very effective.

  • 3% is very high in a pvp game with a large cast. for example, twins was ACTUALLY low at like 0.4% or whatever it was, that's a genuinely low number. 5% indicates a character is very popular, for example.

but did you NOT NOTICE the dates which the data was taken from? june - july.

  • yeah, sounds fine to me. old ADS was never an issue for me, the free faking was. if that got gutted further i'd gladly take faster windup

  • same issues here - this game is super muddy, dark, and unappealing for the eyes. causes the worst eye strain without some sort of brightness filter.

What?! I like illumination!!! sometimes I just cant find gens. I only recently started making boon builds and honestly not too bad. started with shadow step which only a day or two after drac comes out and honestly? it slaps right now frfr. so since I already had one perk and decided to small game it, I added in illumination and generally? my games have been going smooth unless human error took the reigns.

sidebar, whats with these random survivors getting in the game and then just dumpsterfiring on all cylinders? its far few in between but sometimes I get a match where survivors just choose violence against themselves and their teammates. I'm talking Dennis the Menace levels of horrible decisions (im playing it up but after accidentally spectating a recent one Im just kerfuffled)

Illumination is horrible but if you're not familiar with genspawns, it's good for learning them.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/425019/knight-still-really-has-no-incentive-to-split-chases-despite-being-punished-for-sandwiching

They should double down on the "chasing another survivor" thing and make the guards actually a threat in chase, then make it so doing tiny paths is really bad, and that you can't sandwich the survivor. So then the "power" is effectively, you can sort of be in 2 places at once by telling the guards what to do.

hard agree. I'd be in favor of being able to send out multiple guards to complete multiple different tasks, obviously with many layers of changes.

if jailer truly was multi-utility based, assassin was lethality based, and carny was destruction based, you could have a knight that's constantly thinking about multiple options rather than just "make these two guys chase leon" and "make the big guy break the wood"

like this is sort of a pipe dream at this point, but a more "split chases, make more choices, have more fun" knight sounds like something worth pursuing

Nope but I do now. I still think its annoying that pallets seem to become increasingly less valuable the longer this game goes on. When you play against Trapper, ghost face or the Spirit for example you really see the value of pallets. As far as ranged attacks go, I really don't like them. I think in a game where a survivors main thing against the killer is to run that distance should always offer value. I don't think any ability should be able to down you from range except for Huntress.

you feel the value of pallet against trapper and ghostface because they are terrible chase killers. you can keep both of them in chase for tons of time.

  • @Gandor said:

Does that change even matter? I dropped this game for 2 reasons and 1 of which is that any reworked map with the new hook density makes sabotages impossible.

Even with breakout and taking hit and killer not having IG/agi and surprising killer with sabotaging the hook he was going for and killer downing survivor in the far away spot from hooks - even after all these requirements there is VERY good chance killer will still make it to next hook.

Just take a flashlight or flashbang if you want to help teammate. Sabotages don't matter any more.

I use sabo a lot, it works fine, and I just want the perk to return back to 6m. This is a very simple post.

  • @sizzlingmario4 said:

I don't really blame BHVR for being cautious with wiggle-related perks especially after the Boil Over fiasco a couple of years ago. They probably didn't want to buff Breakout to 25% without any drawback.

But I agree the changes were a nerf overall and the old version with the lower bonus was slightly better. Even though it has a higher bonus now, it's harder to stay in range and constantly be giving the carried survivor the wiggle bonus without being hit by the killer on accident. And 5% extra wiggle speed doesn't really make up for that imo. I would rather have the old version back as well.

I completely agree with you there. Don't blame them, but it was just a bad change.

  • I really did not need a one-word reply. That added nothing to the conversation, what was even the point of that? Happy to read why you disagree, but thanks for nothing.

After playing a bunch of matches, I think Hillbilly feels really fun to play as.

    Playing against, not so much.

Overdrive feels like an increased threat, which is great! Overdrive chases are a lot more intense.

However, it often feels like I can't get anywhere after dodging an attack. I feel incredibly zoned at all times during Overdrive, and it's not very fun. I personally wish for an in-between missed Special Attack cooldown that's somewhere in between where it is now and where it used to be (where it was before was way too punishing).

I think increasing the terror radius ever-so-slightly during a sprint could be a good idea.

Also, the chainsaw volume is incredibly quiet now? I can barely hear it playing as Survivor, it sounds very unnaturally quiet.

Thing is, you can still tunnel at 5 gens with this, you get it once on the first hook and then just tunnel that person out. Then you have 3 more uses of it to help secure a victory in the 3v1 because those will all still be fresh hooks even though you just tunneled somebody.

I feel like the perk should be deactivated once a survivor dies, same with Pain Resonance.

Old Freddy had a really unique foundation for a killer and with modernization and visual flair, he could be sweet.

    :)

It is good to see you here, my friend. I remember your comments on older threads about Freddy, you've been watching this struggle happening for quite some time.

I will tell ya, this time I am feeling hopeful. Billy's and Onryo's recent changes were massive jumps in the right direction and if they extend that treatment to Freddy... the mere thought already makes me happy.

I loved old Freddy. I started DBD back in early 2017, I was excited when his first teaser trailer came out, and playing him day 1, he was the first killer I thought "I'm gonna main this guy." Although by today's standards he's dated, and he had his problems, just can't stop holding onto that butchery. Just a shame man. Whenever he is hopefully changed for the BETTER, I will look to your commitment as one of the reasons why 😎

Other than the PTB-to-live changes for Onryo, I fully agree w you. I think there's a good chance we'll see something special for Fredster on the horizon
