  • I think the hillbilly's chainsaw looks pretty good on screen. Whatever it is, I'm sad he's not in this group.

  • I'm not saying the nerf wasn't necessary, but the hillbillies I meet currently make me sad because I often use my chainsaw only for movement. With the add-on nerfs and animation changes, the chainsaw is too difficult to hit, and the risk of missing is too great. I have to wonder if there wasn't a better adjustment.

  • There was no mention of it in the 5.4.2update, but I'll look forward to it in the next update. I'll prepare another verification video when I have time.

  • When Billy can turn 90 degrees, he becomes much stronger and more fun.

But it's still not stable and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, so I'd like to see some more buffs to make chainsaws easier to use.

  • I play Billy(with Double Engravings) a lot, but since he was buffed, I don't worry about overheating that much. (It's not quite perfect.

However, since it was nerfed, it now looks down after the Chainsaw Sprint and has poor visibility, and now there is no acceleration after the Chainsaw Sprint due to a bug(?). It's hard to hit the chainsaw, but the risk of missing is too high.

It makes me sad when I meet Billy who only uses the M1, so I hope he'll be able to use the chainsaw more easily...

Bug =/= shadownerf. Report in the appropriate section and hope for the best.

I did report it in the bug report.

Not many people use Billy now, so not many people notice these changes.

For Billy users, this change is a significant nerf. I don't know if it's a bug or shadownerf, or what the truth is, but I hope my voice reaches the development people.

  • Originally, there was a specification for acceleration afterthe Billy's Chainsaw Sprint (with double engravings) , But since the 5.4.0 update, that acceleration seems to be gone🙄

※It's a little hard to tell, but the one on the right side of the video is slower to get to the locker.

I was told that acceleration was removed as a bug fix, but there is no mention of it in the patch notes. The acceleration has been there since the time it was implemented, so if they call it a bug now...😥

That adds a massive amount of punishment for merely using your chainsaw and is effectively a SUPER hard nerf on using billy's power mid chase in a risky and high skill way. One that's already insanely punished unless you're willing to dedicate nearly hundreds, if not thousands of hours to play effectively.

Is there a dialogue that can be opened here about options that can be taken? Without some change to compensate for the bugfix's nerf, it's leaving an entire playstyle of billy high and dry.

I think so too. This adjustment is a hard nerf for people who use Billy a lot. I'm also concerned about the fact that the acceleration that has been there since the game was first implemented is now being chalked up to a bug and being fixed silently.

I'd like to see some sort of buff adjustment, but I'd like to see acceleration restored to what it was in the first place...

  • I don't know if it's a bug or a silent nerf, but since the 5.4.0 update, Billy's been slow after the Chainsaw Sprint (with double engravings). I am sure of it, as I have also verified it.

I can see why there aren't many Billy users, as this adjustment was made without any report.

  • @Mandy said:

I believe the acceleration after the chainsaw sprint with the engravings was a bug that was fixed recently.

This acceleration has existed for over 5 years. If they fixed it, I wish they would have at least mentioned it in the patch notes...😰 I like to meet Billy. Please don't reduce Billy any further...

  • I was once told by a long-time billy user that the speed of a hillbilly with a chainsaw used to be the same speed as a running survivor(4.0 m/s), but now the speed is decreasing(3.68 m/s?)🙄

If it's true, I hope you fix it. I want to see more of Billy.

  • I thought the nerf was inevitable, but I don't understand why other killers (SPIRIT, BLIGHT,etc) are allowed and Billy is not. Billy is a fun killer to use on your own or to meet on Survivor. I wish I could meet him more often.

  • Even after the nerf, Billy is still fun, but it takes a great deal of practice before he becomes interesting. And a lot of people quit Billy before it gets interesting. I just wish it was a little easier to use...

  • Now Billy, I can't think of any add-ons that I can recommend for beginners. I've given up on add-ons, so I wish you'd do something about the overheat.

  • I'm sad to see more people using chainsaws only for transportation. It would be nice if chainsaws were a little easier to use during chases. Billy is a fun killer. I want to see more of him.

  • I don't understand why he was nerfed not only in add-ons but also in basic performance, even after a year. I want to see more of him.

  • I think one of his weaknesses is that he is easily countered due to the limited number of add-ons he can use. Also, he is very map dependent and lacks stability.

  • I don't understand why his difficulty level is always "easy"🙄 It might be easier if he used the chainsaw just for movement, but that doesn't play to his strengths. It's a mystery to me if the management is using him properly now.

  • Instasaw addons should have been nerfed, but the base performance shouldn't have been tweaked. That nerf was overkill, and Billy's current usage rate says it all. (I've met Billy, but he's all newbie killer.)

I like playing against the Billy. Please let us meet more.😥

  • Last time I faced a Billy was 4 days ago. Before that probably about 1 month ago. I wish I could see him more.

    Things I wish for Billy:

    • The Roar should play all the time when he is using his Chainsaw (No, seriously, I would be happy if they would remove it...)
    • Engravings have a third effect of reducing Overheat gained by using the Chainsaw, this to make Double Engravings useable again. The Overheat-Mechanic in itself is fine, you rarely overheat as long as you are not trying to go for every impossible Chainsaw, but especially with Double Engravings (which is one of the most skillful ways to play Billy), you overheat way too fast. So the Engravings should have an effect to reduce the Overheat.
    • Rework his animations again. Seriously, he does not feel like before (even before they nerfed him). This is my biggest flaw, the animations are really horrible.

I agree with this opinion (especially the second one). I'm not sure if this add-on is the only one that is prone to overheating when Engravings already has its disadvantages of slightly increases chainsaw charge time. I'd like to see overheating work equally for all add-ons.

  • Since they were slower than the survivors during charging chainsaw, they already had the disadvantage of being farther away from the survivors if the chainsaw did not hit them😟 And yet, it's sad that they added not only add-on adjustments but also an overheat system. I'd like to see some more remedies😓

Hey, the MMR has been deactivated yesterday! Check here: https://twitter.com/DeadByBHVR/status/1403381573601345540

Your feedback is however greatly appreciated though, as in your original post it was during it's activation. Feedback has been forwarded from the community to the Devs about MMR.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry for the lack of explanation, all images are from yesterday's game (during MMR TEST).

I like DBD and especially like to play against Hillbilly. Hopefully it will boot up properly when we implement it!🙇‍♀️

  • なんでやねーん!!!!!2.jpg

The other killer players were slowly hitting the all red belt survivor, but Billy remained the same. My friend said, "There's no sign of them getting stronger"

I can't really tell if it's running properly because the rate isn't visualized...😟

  • my friend is the experts(Rank1) of Hillbilly. but Since the MMR test started, my friend don't encounter many red-ranked Survivors.

You've executed four people in every game, but There's no sign of the rate going up. My friend said, "There's no sign of them getting stronger.

The same goes for my other friends of the billy experts(Rank1) . Is the MMR test running normally when playing hillbilly?🙄

Personally I didn't like the overheat mechanic, it feels like it was poorly implemented. A while back I heard a guy on these forums say that instead of being a purely negative thing overheat should have some kind of reward, maybe like making his chainsaw go faster the closer it is to overheating. It would be pretty cool to see something like this as it would create a high risk high reward system.

Not all of his addons are bad, some are pretty fun or strong but some of them are really awful and deserve to get changed. His animations are awful though and need to get fixed.

I agree. A few fun add-ons have been added, but there are just too many things that need to be fixed!

It's called power creep and it exists in pretty much any continually updated game.

Billy more or less plays like he always did. Overheat was a very stupid addition but it can be almost entirely removed by a common offering.

The truth is that Billy is still very strong in good hands (I'd say curve billy is one of the hardest killers to learn in dbd), but 99.8% of Billy players were trash and relied on charge speed add ons. They couldn't adapt after the nerf and jump ship to easier killers that can give better results.

If what you say is true, I wish Billy nerf had been only an add-on like Huntress and Spirit😥

  • @WexlerWendigo said:

All they needed to do was nerf his strongest add ons, but they ruined him for no reason. It’s awful how Bubba is stronger than him these days, despite taking no skill.

I find him a fun killer to play against.

plus there's outplay(window or board) to him unlike the Nurse and Spirit. And yet, I don't understand why He was nerfed more than they were. I want to see Billy more.

  • I don't know if it's a silent nerf or a bug, but I'm also sad to see the speed down of holding the billy's chainsaw (4,0 m/s ⇒ 3.68 m/s)☹️

His chainsaw manipulation was delicate, and due to repeated bugs?, fewer and fewer people were using it before the nerf . It's sad that only people who've used it know what they're doing.

"In what world does a developer need to nerf a certain character to understand that another one is weak"

In a world where players only play 1-3 characters out of a roster of 24. You NEED data to come to a conclusion. You cant simply address whats wrong with a killer if that killer isnt being played.

"Huntress is super popular, you see her all the time, but they didn't gut her with the recent changes compared to Billy."

She wasnt super popular untill after the Billy nerf though. And she didnt really need that much alteration to start with. She doesnt have potentially infinite pressure with her basekit.

「She wasnt super popular untill after the Billy nerf though」

She was popular before the Billy nerf🙄Huntress was the 3th of killer pick rates by official poll (2019). ※red rank only ⇒ 4th

I wish Billy nerf had been only an add-on like Huntress and Spirit.

He always has been. He made that obvious when he complained about the PH nerf.

But in this case he's right. There's a lot of survivor mains out there who think Billy's overheat mechanic was completely unnecessary at best.

It is definitely a contender for the worst balance changing decision the devs have ever made.

The only good parts about the change were the LoPro Chains (fun as heck) and removing instasaw. Beyond that, they need to pretty much rethink his change from scratch.

I agree with this opinion. I think the removal of the instasaw is appropriate. However, I don't agree with the other nerfs.

Only a few agree with the Billy nerf, and now they many miss the old Billy within this community. I find him a fun killer to play against plus there's outplay to him. I want to see Billy more😥

The community had literally zero input on these changes though. Listening to the players should also be a team effort.

Nobody asked for all of this.

As you can see, everyone (and by that i mean 90+% of people) is still hating the Billy nerf almost a year after and even some big content creators have brought the topic back again.

Even after almost year since the Billy nerf, the thread of the Billy nerf is posted within this community. I hope one day this voice will reach the team.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Devs realized their mistake, honestly i think they already knew they were making a mistake when nerfing hillbilly, but at that time players complained about hillbilly being played too often so that's probably why they consider hillbilly's "rework" a success and refuse to revert it

I'm sad. With the advent of other killers, I think pick rates of hillbilly was declining even before the nerf.

Huntress was the first place of killer pick rates(October 2020), However She was only nerfed by a few add-ons.

    I'm jealous of her😞

Because there are Huntress mains on the dev team, if I had to speculate.

I see. I would love to see you use Billy😓

Compared to the other killer adjustments, he's clearly been nerfed too much.

  • @ARatherStrangeKiller said:

I don't think many will argue that Billy's add-ons didn't need some tweaks as stuff like insta-saw was pretty busted. However, we can all agree that the new add-ons in general are a far cry from even Billy's worst old add-ons. The overheat mechanic was just the cherry on top of the ######### sundae, making what were good/decent add-ons, the engravings, absolute garbage while generally putting a cap on the amount of pressure Billy can put on survivors.

    I agree with this opinion.

The nerf to the tuning guide makes a lot of sense, but didn't have to change any other add-ons.

the only decent add-on [engravings] is killed by The overheat mechanic.

    I miss old billy too...😥
