As long as it can. Right now it's still growing. Even if it were to start shrinking, it'd still be one of the most played games on Steam.

If they want me to encourage me playing another role! then how about actually giving me Red rank teammates when i'm at a red rank killer and not fake red rank imposters playing more terrible then whenever i face bronze, silver or even Ash rank survivors whenever I'm playing my Silver Killer role!!!!
I still demand this becomes a thing: let players choice what daily rituals they want, a killer or a surv one, cuz this is BS
Not to mention how many survivors troll, DC or whatever when you got that 'safely unhook as .....'
i'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 4 DAYS ALREADY IT'S GOT TO ######### END

That has nothing to do with the matchmaking, it just shows how long they've been playing since the last reset (which no longer affects the actual ranking). Didn't you hear about the implementation of SBMM?

Not sure on this but my experience is if you main one side, almost all your dailies will be for the other side.
I guess it's a way to get you to play both sides.
There are more killer dailies than survivor dailies. However, if you only ever do the killer ones, then the survivor dailies start piling up, as you'd expect, because you're literally not doing them.

ow yeah and let those free bloodpoints just rot while DbD could just MADE it so YOU can CHOICE what role you play
Not force you into one
DbD isn't forcing you to do anything, you're choosing to do those tasks for the BP they offer.
-
You know you don't have to do them, right?

I can't answer the question without violating several forum rules, so let's just say it's (unfortunately) typical of PvP games and is why the vast majority of the games I paid for are either co-op or single player. If I play PvP, it's usually either a free game, a very cheap one, or one that offers co-op.

They are annoyed because u play the game? If i bring RPD offering I'm toxic? Mb i enjoy it/ mb i want to test some things out? If i bring killer/survivor i enjoy playing I'm toxic? ######### logic is this?
Those who restrict others from playing game the way it is intended are actually toxic. Sandbagging is toxic, intentionally failing every skill check while other guy is trying to fix gen is toxic. But not the map offerings.
Again:
That was my point, that there is no "one definition to rule them all", there are many definitions of what "toxic" means.
I'm not here to argue about your definition, just to point out that there is no "one true definition". Your definition isn't even the one you posted.

Shrug. I think that you've have to deliberately be assuming a negative interpretation here. I think you'd have to be astonishingly thin skinned to be offended by 'good effort'.
It's literally what I've heard people tell their small children, but whatever you say.
-
@R2k said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2545690#Comment_2545690
If u purposely annoy someone in game by doing something annoying like sandbagging, it's toxic. If u bring offering or perk or whatever and someone is getting mad because suddenly u play the game it's stupid.
U can't call people being toxic if they bring perks or offering u don't like.
But I'm bringing the offering to annoy them, and they're annoyed. That's toxic, according to the definition you posted.
Your definition simply excludes things that are within the boundaries of the rules. That was my point, that there is no "one definition to rule them all", there are many definitions of what "toxic" means.

Your alternatives honestly sound worse. They sound like what you'd tell a small child after he or his team lost.

They've always been shorter, but this is the first time in the 14 months or so I've been playing off-and-on where they are reliably instant. It at least suggests to me that while the game has a lot of players, fewer than ever want to play the killer role. Which would be quite something if true, considering that the cast of killers are one of the most standout things about this game.
This is also probably the first time in the last 14 months when there's been a new matchmaker.
-
@StarLost said:

I don't think this says much though, considering that I get instant queues as killer while survivor can take ages. Something feels very squiffy about an asymmetric PvP game like this where the solo role isn't the power role.
It says that the game isn't dying. Killer always had shorter queues, so it's not like that changed.
-
@R2k said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2544920#Comment_2544920
Bringing offering isn't toxic. U play the game according to it's rules and don't do any harmful things. While, for example, sandbagging your teammate to help killer catch him or just block him in corners is toxic.
What if I bring an offering to purposefully annoy the other players? Is that toxic?
This is why the definition is vague, because you can definitely be toxic and still play within the rules of the game. Note that "outside the rules of the game" isn't even part of the definition you posted, it's something you added to it because it's your definition.

Giving developers the full power is what causes things like this to happen in the first place.
If the developers had no control over what is or isn't fair in Dead by Daylight, we would have most likely already made them patch the game so that stretched resolution couldn't occur whatsoever.
The Smash Bros. community has no input from the developers as to what is fair and what isn't fair; its ruleset is made by people who are knowledgeable enough in the competitive aspect of the games that their word holds more solid ground. The developers themselves have even tried to make tournaments with their own rulesets, but they had ended miserably for a reason. It didn't work.
The developers should have little to no input on what is or isn't fair in a competitive sense, or hell, in this game's case, in any sense. BHVR simply needs to be put on the sidelines while the community itself gets its [redacted] figured out and actually gets somewhere. Only then should BHVR be consulted so that either a) tournaments and streamers are not allowed to use these or b) the developers patch out the ability to exploit the game through these methods, with option B being the better of the two.
And yet, the developers are still the ones with all the power to effect change. Sure, in private, people can agree to follow whatever rules a different group of people want, but in practice, who actually implements things? The developers.

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you don't report, no action is taken because there's nobody watching every single trial. Because no action is taken, you then claim the system doesn't work because the cheater you faced didn't get banned.

But you are saying it's okay if it's not explicitly stated to be cheating in the rules your point is as long as the developers don't say it's cheating it's not cheating, so if there is something in the game that offers an unfair advantage to a small number of players to let them benefit from and heavily skews the balance towards them, it's okay for them to continue using that even if it wasn't intended in the first place.
Whether you like it or not what you said is implying that you are okay with these exploits as long as it wasn't said in the rules, that it's cheating, so if hacks weren't in the rules that would make it okay to use against other players. It's a silly argument to make that player shouldn't be able to point out unintended things and call them out as being cheating and it's incidentally defending all these other things and the only thing you are doing is allowing people justification to use these things, just because it's not officially stated by the devs.
And no I wouldn't know that because honestly the way you are saying these things just makes it confusing and muddled, not trying to be rude, but this is what I am getting from you because that is how you stated it.
I never gave my opinion, that was just stuff you made up. If you want to know my opinion, you can just ask.
@Vulgun said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2543133#Comment_2543133
Because, there's a precedent against what you're claiming. Look no further than the community surrounding Super Smash Bros., where the entire community has the power to make the rules, and the developers do not whatsoever.
In many games, players can actually decide what is fair and what isn't fair in a game, and one of two things often happens with that. One, and most common nowadays, the unfair thing is patched out to be more fair. Two, and this is what occurs when games can't be patched, the unfair thing in question is often times banned.
The developers of Dead by Daylight should hold little to no weight in deciding what is or isn't fair for the game. The community is the one that should be deciding these based on any and all factors and evidence involved.
What is considered fair and unfair by the developers is often times moot to the reality, as the developers only look to one part of the spectrum and not the other parts of it, and thus they don't get a legitimately clear picture of what is or isn't fair unless it was just an unintended bug or glitch that occurs because of their mistakes.
When the community can agree on whether something is fair or not is what should matter, and it's what creates an actual competitive philosophy that can be followed by everyone.
Basically, who decides what's fair in a competitive game should be its community. So it's time you and everyone here rip any semblance of power you give the developers and start making your own choices. You do not need your parents (in this case, the developers) to tell you what is or isn't fair. Make your own decisions, make a competitive philosophy and make an actual ruleset that is both neutral and can be followed by most of the community.
All it takes is getting knowledgeable people into a backroom and setting the rules based on next-to-pure neutrality, reasoning and evidence.
That's how other games have done it, that's how games should continue to do it. Giving any value to the developers on whether or not something is fair in a game only makes things harder for everyone involved.
I disagree. Developers can and should take input from players regarding what the players feel is fair/unfair, but, ultimately, the developers themselves are the ones who make the rules. You're probably referring to community-made tournaments or whatever when you bring up SSB, which is not the case in DbD.

Okay?
I guess today I learned that cheating is okay if it's not officially stated within the rules. Can't wait to go download hacks and start cheating right away thank you very much.
No, you just learned that the developers are the ones who decide what is or isn't allowed in a game. Using those scripts, for instance, is not allowed.
-
@JustWhimsical said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2543088#Comment_2543088
But it is cheating? If you really think this isn't just blatant cheating, here the literal definition of cheating is "act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination." The stretched resolution gives an unfair advantage to a few players that wasn't intended at all.
Also at least give me reasons why you think it isn't the case or anything instead of just constantly refuting everything without even explaining why. Because all you are doing is allowing people to think that it's Okie Doki to use stretched resolution, same as the people who defended mods that made traps super visible it's why this is so frustrating honestly clearly this is cheating you are only fueling the people who use this exploit.
Like do you want me to wait until the October stream where they explicitly reply to a question that asks if it's cheating to come back and tell you I told you so? Like I see no other way this is going to go when clearly they have declared similar things like the mod thing as cheating and clearly this is the same situation.
There's one group of people who makes the rules: the developers. We players have no ability to proclaim something is cheating. That's just how games work: they make it and set all the rules, we play it. Therefore, whether or not I, personally, would consider it cheating is irrelevant to whether or not it is cheating, and no argument based on dictionary definitions is going to change that.
Think about it: who decides what's fair in a game? The devs do. So why would our opinions on what's fair be relevant?

Tell me what you think of this then, there are literally zero fog whisperers defending stretched resolution some are saying the devs explicitly stated not to use it. The others are just flat out saying it's an exploit, that should be more than enough evidence that it shouldn't be used, just because it's not bannable -yet- doesn't mean you should be out here saying people should keep using it.
I think it's easy to claim stuff with no proof.
just because it's not bannable -yet- doesn't mean you should be out here saying people should keep using it.
It's a good thing I'm not, then. All I'm saying is that there has been no official statement by the devs that it is, in fact, cheating. I don't like it, but that's the truth: the devs have not said that stretched res is cheating, and to claim otherwise is spreading false information.
-
@JustWhimsical said:

The developers haven't commented on stretched resolution ever I don't think, but honestly, you think they are going to allow this lol, after what they did to the people abusing mods to gain visual advantages? Of course, they are going to say this is broken it was never intended to be in the game in the first place.
People don't use stretched resolution because it's "perfectly fine" they use it to get an unfair advantage, basically, the same people who modded in things to give them an advantage. Honestly a bit disappointed that you are here defending these exploit abusers the stretching of the screen was never intended in the first place to happen just another bug people use to gain advantages over others, you think that being able to do this is fair?
That's beside the point. The devs decide what is or isn't allowed, not players. So when someone asks is X is cheating, an official statement is required, not the opinions of players.
-
Unless that video contains a statement by a developer, that's just another player's opinion, which is irrelevant.

That subreddit isn't run by the devs, those are player opinions.

Reporting people does not do anything. The report system in DbD is so awful it's common knowledge at this point to just ignore it. Streamers even tell their communities not to bother reporting because it doesn't do anything.
The system is bad, yes, but not reporting is worse. It's no surprise there are so many hackers when you have people explicitly telling others "hey, just let them get off scot free".
The system is only bad because of the multiple steps you have to undertake. However, it does work. Now cue people saying otherwise.

I think the game could benefit in general from having longer running matches. Killers don't like it when they don't have any breathing room to get anything done, and survivors don't like it when they get tunnelled out or camped. If matches just lasted longer so survivors could do more and killers were under less pressure, I think toxicity would go down.
That won't work because DbD is a zero-sum game. Less pressure on the killer means more pressure on the survivors and vice-versa.

If the game was more forgiving to both sides, we'd probably be seeing less toxicity.
I know, I was pointing out how being forgiving to one side is just frustrating for the other. I didn't think I needed to explicitly say "and vice-versa".

Forgiving to one side just means frustrating to the other. If killers could lose every chase because of the survivors' skill and still win because the game is "forgiving", then the survivors would just feel frustrated.

No it's self care action where you don't want to see or not experience toxicity and that's best way, there's no way to get rid of toxicity and we all are well aware of it why you act like they're running away or hiding from something? They are just enough smart to not interact with community because why would they? It's a game nobody needs community to play it therefore no toxicity I have no wish saying to strangers gg or whatever I'm good I play my match and go into next I have no any interest with interaction with them
Let me put this another way.
The question is "How would you reduce toxicity in DbD?", not "How would you deal with toxicity in DbD?". You are answering the second question, which isn't the topic at all. OP doesn't want to know how you deal with toxicity, they want to know what you would do that would decrease the actual toxicity in the game. Just because you don't experience it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
-
That's burying your head in the sand. OP asked for ways to get rid of toxicity, not how to ignore it.

I think this is a solution as well,I highly doubt toxic players are even punished in the first place,since it would just mean for BHVR to lose players just because they are toxic,because priorities.
Content algorithms have shown that anger drives engagement. Until if and when people choose to disengage from that content, toxicity will be a boon, and no company will shoot itself in the foot like that.
-
- Ban toxic people. "Toxic" meaning people who do things to purposefully piss off other players.
- Zero tolerance policy for racism, homophobia, and so on. You do/say any of these things once, you get a hardware ban.
Yes, this may seem extreme, but it'd definitely cut down on the toxicity.

Well, those are the questions people want to see answered, I don't know what to tell you.
@Kurri said:
Probably because it's the actual questions we want answered. We want to know why the game is so survivor. We want to know why they are okay with camping/tunneling. We want to know what role they play, or if they even play the game (because that leads into answering why the game is so survivor sided).
These are important questions like any other, and are also most often ignored, because BHVR cherry picks the questions.
BHVR answers the questions that get upvoted the most. It's not BHVR's fault that a question about Pinhead's voiceline gets more upvotes than a question about hackers. You can blame the forumgoers for that one.

Well, to be fair, hacking is a form of cheating. Because cheating is doing anything that gives you an advantage other players don't have access to take advantage of or defend against. Hacks could also be considered mods because you are modifying the game. Maybe mods are changes made to the game that are allowed within the rules, whereas anything outside of the rules is cheating?
Not that it matters, but I've always heard people with no technical knowledge using other people's hacking tools as script kiddies.
Mods are not necessarily allowed, no. In fact, most games, particularly multiplayer games, prohibit third-party modifications. It's just that some are ignored.
