That would defeat the purpose of the category, IMO. It's altruism, not moral dessert-ism.

Paragraphs are minimum for me.
English is not my language but making a post easier for others to read is something everyone should do.
For me it's punctuation and paragraphs. I can stomach the lack of capital letters and even poor grammar (to a degree), as long as the punctuation is there and the post isn't one massive wall of text.

A rant is a rant. If you want grammar go read a novel :)
There's a bare minimum of expectation when communicating with someone else. If you just want to shout into the void and don't want anyone to hear you, you don't need to open a thread.

See, you aren't even aware about the specific thing dark souls 3 does which I was referring to. I'm dark souls 3 and dark souls 2 there is a scaling in the background involved. Such a system can be extracted out and used in a modified way aswell.
You mean the scaling of stats when matching people of different SLs? Maybe if you spoke plainly and were specific about what you're talking about, we could actually discuss this.

"patent the idea and you are rich" classic phrase of this age to make something seem impossible.
Its absolutely possible, wage concept of this exists in games like dark souls 3. But that stuff ain't in your scope ofc.

No, it's for you to show your idea instead of being very vague about it.

My multiple playthroughs of DS3 would disagree.
Its matchmaking works by SL, last I checked, and does not take into account actual skill. If I'm SL 50, for instance, I get matched with people around the same SL, no matter if they're complete newbies or people who do SL1 speedruns for kicks.

It's a matchmaking problem. If the matchmaking can't balance out swf teams with a killer then it's not good. Simple.
It's a mathematical problem, if anything.
If you have a way of making sure players of wildly different skill levels who all queued up together get put up against a human opponent that feels fair to all of them, by all means, patent the idea and sell it. You'll be rich in no time.

Yeah that makes sense with how the game is now, but back when getting downed for the first time meant you could be moried without ever being hooked that extra loop was bigger risk especially since the killer was hosting. Then going back to alpha when it was 1 v 1 looping would have just been time wasting.
The game has evolved a great deal and as I typed this out I can't really recall when looping became the meta over hiding, maybe when Sprint burst was the best perk because exhaustion recovered while running?

Sounds like a matchmaking problem to me
It's not, though.
There are basically three ways for a matchmaker to account for groups of people with multiple MMRs:
- Average out the MMRs. This has the potential drawback that if the MMRs of the group are too disparate, people with low MMRs are going to be severely outmatched.
- Use the lower MMRs. This has the drawback of making it easier for people with high MMRs smurf.
- Use the higher MMRs. This has the same drawback as 1, but more "extreme".
There is no perfect solution.
-
Why do Marvel shows/movies continue to have long opening sequences, like we don't already know what we're watching? And on that note, why does everyone keep trying to set up "cinematic universes" instead of just making good films, which still have stupid high profit margins?
-
Indeed, the music in DbD is top-notch, and they don't get nearly enough praise for the incredible compositions that perfectly capture the stress and intense emotions that come with the "cat and mouse" gameplay. Appropriately, the music also has a fairly simplistic, yet highly catchy, beat, mirroring the nature of DbD itself (a simple game at its core that evokes powerful, complex emotions in everyone who plays it and can be addictive to play).

Maybe in some form, I imagine loops early on were just more time wasters before the Killer inevitably downed the Survivor rather than the more complex tiles we have today. Just a natural evolution of the Devs looking at it and going "hmm, we could do this and this and that could be kinda cool."
I imagine loops early on were just more time wasters before the Killer inevitably downed the Survivor rather than the more complex tiles we have today.
Nope. There were literal infinites, where the killer was mathematically incapable of catching up to the survivor. It wasn't intended.

Successful doesn't mean fun. Balancing around the highest level of play makes sense competitively, but it at comes at the expense of fun. Dead by Daylight wants to be fun, not competitive.
Fun doesn't mean unbalanced and non-competitive either. A lot of people have fun competing.
-
What purpose would that serve, exactly, beyond everyone and their mother then claiming that BHVR was totally gonna implement those changes?
-
It wasn't intended, no. In fact, in the early days, it was considered an exploit.

That's a good point. It should probably go back to being tied to BP, TBH.

1 or 2 months ago
Steam stats show that 2 months ago, the game had fewer players than it does now, and 1 month ago had roughly the same number of players as it does now.
An ongoing analysis of Steam's player numbers, seeing what's been played the most. The game lost players shortly after the RE chapter, but that's normal for every big chapter release.

@GeneralV said:
Ok, so this was a pain to find.
There was a similar thread here some time ago, and this is what I commented there.
My opinion remains the same:
There is an easy solution and a hard solution.
The easy one consists of everyone buying a time machine and returning to 2017. Problem solved, DBD is scary again.
The hard one consists of working with what we currently have. So, let us start:
1- Maps and ambience
We are starting with the obvious, and so I shall state the obvious: reworked maps are absolute garbage on every single goddamn aspect, this one included. Crotus Prenn is the best, yet saddest example of this: a map whose ambience was top tier got transformed into an empty wasteland.
My idea is simply erasing the stupid Realm Beyond and return the maps to what they once were. However, I imagine this is out of the equation to the devs, so we would have to work to make the garbage more tolerable. And I suppose it can be done, with basically 2 things:
-Fog: We need more Fog. It is an extremely important element in DBD, both lore-wise and gameplay-wise, which somehow the game currently lacks. We would need something like this:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/WTMRHL7BH048/image.png
-Lighting: Lighting is something which, undeniably, got worse throughout the years. The Realm Beyond merely kicked an already dead horse. The image above shows what the lighting should look like, which is basically 2017 levels. Alternatively, the devs can bring this precious treasure back:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/MYD69QWC535J/bringitback.png
2- Killers
Next we are going to what makes the game truly scary, the killers themselves. And I think we can divide the killers into 3 types: scary, neutral, and not scary.
-Scary killers are the ones who are scary by themselves and do not depend on the maps for their spookiness factor. In my honest opinion, during DBD`s golden age of spookiness the scariest killers were Freddy and Michael, mainly because of how their powers worked. Michael still plays the same, so everything is okay with him.
Freddy`s scary factor came from the way he approached survivors, something that he now lacks. Give him his old power back and he can rule the Fog alongside Michael, in a spooky diarchy.
Other killers, such as Doctor, are also members of this category, but not nearly as scary as those 2 kings.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/NQ38P91VX9AS/image.png
(Don`t question this image)-Neutral killers are the ones who end up depending on maps to be scary, such as Trapper and Hillbilly. However, keep in mind that those killers were designed with the old ambience in mind, and if it was to return I believe these killers would automatically be in a good spot.
-Killers who are not scary are an eternal problem, because not much can be done about them. Legion, Trickster, Deathslinger do not have what makes a horror icon a...well, horror icon. The ambience changing around them should make them somewhat tolerable, but the experience they provide will never be the same as the other 2 categories.
Not to mention that those killers are annoying by themselves, so there is that.
3- Survivors
The scary factor of the Survivor experience depends on the other 2 items, so there isn`t much to talk about here. However, something worth mentioning are the animations. Old animations made the survivors look scared are paranoid, while new animations make them look weird.
What should be done here is obvious. Revert it.
4- Menus
Last but not least, we have the menus. And they should return to the old style. Period.
If you don`t know what I am talking about:
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/HGSPF8318TU8/image.png
It doesn`t really need to look exactly like this...but something close to it would be nice.
5- Final thoughts
And I believe that is it! Now, I`ve talked about what I think would be the best way to make DBD scary again, but this is all my opinion.
The fog and lighting made it less scary, not more. With thick enough fog and dark enough moonlight, you were essentially invisible to the killer. Making the survivors look scared isn't going to make the players scared, so I'm not sure what you were going for there. The menu is also completely irrelevant to how scared the players are in-game.
As for the killers, that's about the only thing that can make the game actually scary.

Yup. DbD lost 30 to 40% of the playerbase with the SBMM release. Let's enjoy the boon totem release and 2 weeks later it will be another 30 to 40% leaving.
30-40% compared to when? The all-time peak, months before SBMM was introduced?
-
"Power role" in an asymmetrical game just refers to the side that is more powerful than each member of the other side on their own. In DbD's case, that would (or should) be the killer, since there's only 1 killer and 4 survivors. It does not mean that one side can utterly stomp the other with little to no effort.

And I guess they're friends and wanted to play together.

New killers don't have "meta perk killers with their best add-ons", as OP put it.
And I guess they're friends and wanted to play together.
Which is fine, but there are consequences for that.
-
Maybe the problem is that you were playing with them, thereby giving them unfair matches due to how the matchmaking works.

Where KrazyKatFTW clearly states that they wants everyone in the game to have fun. I don't think it can be clearer than this. You on the other hand just tell people to go do their "job" and then complain about their grammar?
I will conclude my part in the topic here, since it has pretty much been answered.
I am fine with questioning the rules if you find them unclear sometimes. I do agree the last part. Thanks for clarifying.
You can certainly ask for more information regarding the rules, but when you tell a mod, dev, admin, whatever "Nuh-uh! The rules are totally different!", it's kinda like telling the creator of a board game that their game is actually supposed to be played differently.

Always assume something is fake if it's not an official communication by the devs. And by "official communication", I mean an actual official communication, not a supposed screenshot of one or someone saying they (or "a friend") saw the communication. You'll never be scammed that way.
However, there are also trustworthy sources, but those you learn with experience.

Instant Gaming took information from an unofficial source as an official announcement and prepared an entry on the system for it.
And if you read the article, which Instant Gaming clearly didn't, it's 100% speculative and based solely on the fact that Dead Space was an option during a survey.
In conclusion, it's fake.

How do we know it is fake ? It could be a leak, but I doubt it.
Has any chapter - or any game, really - been leaked like this before, with a (highly suspicious) store selling/announcing the thing before it's even announced?

If it's not being sold on the same stores as the game itself was launched (Steam and so on), assume it's fake.

I'll agree that many reports are waste of supports time.
Don't argue with mods or devs about the rules. They made the rules, they know them better than you or I. If they say it's not reportable, then it's not reportable.
But this is a ######### attitude to have in general, never question anything just obey it blindly? No way that could ever have led to anything wrong in human history, oh wait.
Sorry but laws/rules or whatever needs to be able to be changed because they are made by humans and humans are not perfect which means that they cannot create a perfect system either. If they could, the thought of an automatic ban system wouldn't put everyone on edge.
But this is a [BAD WORD] attitude to have in general, never question anything just obey it blindly?
No, don't question a mod when a mod tells you what the rules actually are. You can disagree with the rules, and that's fine, but if you're telling a mod "No, the rules are actually something different", that's a little silly.

There is litterly a report category "unsportsmanlike" with a matching description of OP's situation.
Developers dont see the support tickets, that doesnt mean they dont get information about the reports right? are you saying it doesnt get communicated to devs when the support staff keeps getting the same reports over and over again?
I cant see how this is wasting time of the staff...
Imagine if police got 100 reports per day about "crimes" like breathing or having your windows closed because it's cold. That's 100 reports per day that they have to sift through and throw out, without mentioning them to any of the higher-ups, because those things are not crimes. That's wasting a lot of their time for no reason.
Don't argue with mods or devs about the rules. They made the rules, they know them better than you or I. If they say it's not reportable, then it's not reportable.

So let me ask you of you would be cool with behavior not responding all weekend or addressing an issue if it was something that was a bigger deal? What if all the servers went down and no one could play the game for an entire holiday weekend, would that warrant a response? How about if they were hacked and personal/account information of users was leaked? Or if behaviors own social media accounts were hacked and spreading false information.
If you think they would have to address more serious issues like this, then you agree that any reasonable company should have someone monitoring their systems, social networks, etc... in order to assure that they can respond to serious situations. Now you can argue this scam is not serious enough to warrant a response, and if that is the argument you want to make then make it, but to argue they have no responsibility cause it is the weekend is just holding them to a standard that no legitimate company would find acceptable.
The difference here being that this isn't their fault and doesn't impact the game. If the servers were down, that would be something that could be their fault, or, at the very least, does impact the game.
