Indeed. The number of comments saying "Well, X got nerfed in this way, so why wasn't it buffed in another way to compensate?" is baffling. The whole point of a nerf is to nerf the thing, because it's too strong. If you just buff it in some other way to compensate, you're right back where you started.

If I were a dev, I would've postponed the character visual update until I rework all maps. Now they started another visual update project ON TOP of the already existing ones.
Just where in the hell are the priorities of these guys?
Your mistake is in assuming game developers are the ones who make the decisions. That only works when the company is comprised 100% of game developers in every position (so PR is handled by game developers, there are no shareholders, and so on). DbD developers are beholden to executive wishes.

1: Peanits is a Community Manager, not a Developer. He may well be under the assumption that that is the case, but the underlying system may not reflect that.
2: It could very well be down to their algorithm being flawed, though the amount of times we've seen a perk being changed then appearing in shrine (regardless of whether it is in Tome, like with Zanshin Tactics) seems to indicate there is a noticeable amount of human intervention.
- He is both. The information he puts on the forum is acquired from the coders themselves.
- That's survivor bias. What about the number of times that a perk was reworked and didn't appear in the Shrine?

No shadow changes, they were announced changes that haven't come to the game yet.

Pretty sure that's just visual.

Find me one singular quote from a dev that suggests that each set of teachables (being the 2 for each role) are fully randomized and not at all influenced by developer decision.
@Peanits said:
The last time Knock Out was in the shrine was February, for reference. You may be confusing it for another perk (Franklin's Demise?).
It's all down to luck. The perks are picked randomly, there's only a few rules behind it. There must be two perks for each side (Survivor and Killer) and a perk cannot appear again within three weeks of its last appearance. With the number of perks in the game right now, some are bound to pop up more than others.
See my post count? I've been here a lot longer than most regular users. I know what I'm talking about.
EDIT: In case you want something more recent, see below.
@Peanits said:
Yes, to an extent.
If a perk is required for an archive challenge, it is guaranteed to appear in the shrine at least once between when the challenge becomes available and when the Rift that challenge is tied to ends.
Beyond that, they're selected randomly with a few rules to prevent the same perks from showing up in back to back shrines.

BHVR has never said Shrine Of Secrets is a random selection. The fact that it is not is very clear given the fact that Object and DS both appeared immediately surrounding their recent reworks.
They have, actually, with the exception that 2 perks are guaranteed to be survivor teachables and 2 are guaranteed to be killer teachables.
EDIT: If memory serves, any perks that are needed for tome challenges are also guaranteed to appear when the challenges are released, but I'm not 100% sure if that's what they said.

The best part of current shrine is BBQ which was there whole week before event started....where is my WGLF bhvr?
WGLF has appeared 9 times. The last was in 29/01/2020.
BBQ has appeared 6 times, the last being in 23/06/2021.
-
Probability does not work the way you think it should. The fact that Enduring has appeared 20 times is a statistical abnormality, no different from when you get 5 heads in a row when flipping a coin. It's unlikely (about 3%), but possible. Getting struck by lightning has about a 0.0003% chance of happening, yet around 24000 people are still hit and killed by lightning every year.
PS: The odds of any one perk appearing actually decrease over time due to the increase in possible perks.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA This has got the be the lamest excuse for someone being toxic. Can't believe what you just had the courage to post
Back in the day, some survivors could actually get stuck at the start. The only way to free them was to hit and hook them.
Also, on a strategic level, it's not the killer's job to play worse to compensate for AFKs, DCs, or suicides.

I give hatch or gate a lot, and are there are some survivors that will always refuse it. It's very rare but they do exist.
I can kinda understand that in normal situations, but with the crowns being time-limited and more difficult for survivors to get (due to what happened in previous events), I just can't imagine someone doing that.

Yes, just like every other game that wants to be properly balanced and stay alive.

Camping. im sure if it was toggleable, then trickster would go up 2 tiers (D to B). Why, because camping is extremely powerful, and since trickster has infinite range, you could also proxy camp like a huntress with more chances to miss and rapid fire while also defending generators.
all that said, trickster should have it toggleable. It's stupid they're limiting his camping potential when there are other much more powerful killers with better camping powers.
Camping is not powerful. Survivors can make it powerful by stopping all gen progression, but that's not the same thing. Camping is literally just the killer doing nothing for two full minutes.

Probably because they’re still being cautious about how potentially oppressive Main Event could be.
Using your example, if a survivor manages to make Oni miss, there’s a window of opportunity to try and get away. Main Event, when active at opportune times with few LoS blockers is completely relentless. I can see why they’re still being cautious.
That said, 30 seconds is a much larger window than (I think) many players realise. It seems short when read, but in game that’s a long time. I almost always feel like I get LOADS done, or travel far while Dark Devotion is active for example, but that’s also only 30 seconds.
I think the 30 second window will make Main Event much more flexible than what some are imagining.
I can understand the concerns, though I personally disagree with them.

Well, the game wasn't this horribly optimized before the RE chapter. It was bad, but not THIS bad.
So, having played for 3 years, and have bought dlc, ,I should just say "Welp, guess I'll uninstall!"?
I want to play the game. It's on the devs to make sure their game runs on every platform they release it on.
No, I don't think you should uninstall, but neither do I think you should keep banging your head against the wall when you know it's just going to end in frustration. That's not healthy.

I've seen quite a few people complaining about Spirit. And maybe, but stats don't always show issues.
The stats said OoO was fine. Hell, the stats said it was weak. But I think most people recognized the perk as incredibly anti-fun. And it was changed, due to backlash.
I've seen quite a few people complaining about Spirit.
In 2018 or so, the game reached one million owners on PC. "Quite a few people" doesn't even begin to approach a statistically significant sample size.

As it should. My point was specifically and exclusively about something being weak or strong and what the devs are expected to do when faced with incontrovertible proof that the complainers are wrong.

I think Stats are an incredibly unreliable way to balance things. If she had a less than 50% killrate, I would listen to the stats, but if a large percentage of the player-base also found her incredibly unfun, I'd change her. Both balance and player enjoyment are important.
Are you suggesting her killrate is less than or equal to 50? Because I highly doubt that.
Are you suggesting her killrate is less than or equal to 50? Because I highly doubt that.
No, I'm saying that when complaints (which come from a minority of players) don't match the data, any rational human being would side with the data. Disparaging the devs for doing so is illogical, to say the least.

I don't think Spirit is unbeatable. I've beaten her plenty of times. I do think her lack of interaction is a problem.
That's not what I asked, though. I asked if you would listen to players or stats if players said that X was unbeatable while the stats showed it had a <=50% winrate.

I still don't understand why Main Event isn't just a toggleable ability, like Oni's.

Okay, so this is punishment for Survivors being so greedy past previous events.
I already have base 4 w/ Nea and Ace but for what price, so it's enough, my mates in solo queue still do nothing. I'll just complete my Killers where I have maybe 12 crowns past 12 games, where I casually hooking survivors without high pressure.
It's not a punishment, it's a change to stop undesired behavior.

It's cutting off your nose to spite your face. Unless your teammates are actively sabotaging you (bodyblocking, drawing the killer to you, that sort of thing), you need them to survive.

@SweetTerror said:
The only downfall with that logic is that the devs have been talking about MMR for god knows how long now. I wager the next gen consoles will have been out for a full year before it even goes live. They keep saying that ranks will no longer matter and that instead it will be used as a reward system, but no one knows when that will be. They keep testing it, but giving no actual concrete information on how it works, let alone when it'll be released.
I mean no offense when I say this, but you need to grow some thick skin and just grin and bear the disaster that is matchmaking right now. Use the event to your advantage to accrue a lot of blood points. Once it's over, then you can go back to ignoring the game, and honestly so too will I.

I think I'd rather have fun when playing video games, but thank you for the "advice".
@Zenro said:
For skilled killers MMR is going to be horrible. 5 minute games arent really that fun and unless you're playing a killer that ignores the boundaries of the game there really isnt much you can do against a team of skilled survivors. We will see what happens. If it helps them balance the game for higher play then maybe its a good thing in the long run but who knows how many years it'll take them to fix it.
Skilled killers are going to go up against people of equal skill. This is only a problem for those who were used to being matched with underskilled people and got easy games as a result.

Thanks for making me aware, although I never click links I don't trust anyway.
Clicking on the link appears to be safe (though I have several add-ons to block stuff that might be malicious). The problem arises when you let it use your Steam account's information to "vote".
-
@Purgatorian said:
Never heard of this scam. How does it work? They send a link or something?
Yes. The link is to a website that supposedly ranks CS:GO teams (by number of votes, because, as everyone knows, that's how things are decided in competitive scenes). It requires an account (or you can link it to your Steam account), and they use that to steal your login info.
-
@Trickstaaaaa said:
For the killer role it's gonna be much more harder since you are going to get placed vs people who are more competent, rather then getting those mixed ranked matches that people often get ones in a while if you are in red ranks. But yeah when I played during their MMR tests it feels like survivors that I would get placed with seemed to be more on my level.
Nah, it's going to be better. If MMR works properly (and the tests, to me, indicated it was working properly), you'll be matched with people who play at the same level as you do, no matter how hard all of you are going. In other words, if someone tries super hard to win, but they can only meet your casual effort, then you'll be matched together.

To me at least that's not how it read. The post is a complaint at heart with the solution of giving dbd to someone else. You're posts seemed to target the complaint and not the solution at face value. If there was a different intent then my b, I still disagree and find the argument even less sound in this different context. Why would the idea illicit such a numbed response? If anything it would be cool to just think what another dev team could do. What a AAA team could do, because let's be honest we've yet to see a AAA attempt at this genre.
Well, I apologize for not being clear.
Evolve was a AAA attempt at this genre. It failed because of corporate greed. Is that what you want for DbD?

@Momentosis said:
The people saying you did nothing wrong are obviously not team oriented players. The team really needed you to take pressure off of them as their hook states piled up. You have to keep track of your teammates hook states and be willing to trade yourself for the good of the team. Especially here in this game. Yeah you did gens, which is better than 90% of solo players already but you gotta make the next move up on protecting your team and taking the killer's pressure.
Like, why let the guys on death hook do the looping and rescuing? Especially when you have taken no hooks at all?
The gen Jockies who refuse to do chases are usually the ones ill seek out and kill when there are 2 survivors left alive.
Reason why I hate the "I did x amount of gens and my teammates left me to die on first hook at egc" posts. It's like, yeah, they're gonna die if they come save you because they used all their hook states to distract the killer while you gen jockey'd the whole match, refusing to take pressure for your team so they have hook states left to rescue you.
Why did the guys on death hook do the looping and the rescuing of their own free will? Why would OP do it if someone else is?

I feel like that boy cride wolf story is a bad representation. It shows more laziness and bitterness on the adults than that of the child being in the wrong. Taking it to the extreme, If you replace the child with a group of people and the wolf with something awful like sexual assault the story blames the victim, and it blames it out of actual laziness.
Now back down to earth with something significantly less serious, dbd. Is it fair to ignore people who raise valid concerns and have rightful emotions towards a product because of the few who were a bit too extra? That's blaming the victim, it's not something you should be numb to. That's why I say it's unhealthy
I'm not blaming anyone, nor am I ignoring valid concerns. I'm dismissing the notion that DbD would somehow be "better" (a nebulous term whose meaning depends on the person using it) if another developer had control of it. That's what I've said, is it not?

I suppose that's fair. I'd love to hear your tone if you played the game on last gen (or an unlucky PC) though. Same with a few other people here. This time is objectively different, and it's telling that they're capable of releasing a patch this bad despite years working on the same game.
I'm not sure you wanna go there. My experience is usually bug-free, no matter the game, with rare exceptions. Furthermore, the fact that I don't experience them doesn't mean they aren't there. I recognize that they are, I just think, like with every other time* that people claimed the sky was falling, it's being blown out of proportion.
*Except when DbD apparently caused some consoles to shut down due to overheating. That was actually quite serious.
