Why would anyone do that? I want to have fun just as much as anyone else and I’m going to make sure that the people I’m playing with/against also have fun. No need to be selfish people.
Not to mention the fact that if a large enough number of players get crowns, we all get some new skins or something to that effect.
-
Nope. The opposite, in fact, because I've been on that side before (and will be again soon and until I get crowns for all the survivors) and know what that's like.

Having coded before; that's ALL coders.
Every time we compile, we pray to Codicus; God Of Code and Compilous; God Of Clean Compiles.
Don't be silly, prayer is pointless. You're giving all us coders a bad name.
You gotta go right for the hardware sacrifices. That's the only way the gods will listen.

Took me 3 matches to get the crown on Legion.
- despawned several times before my eyes
- game crashed
That's just bad luck, it can happen to anyone.

This year i´m not caring that much about the crowns as last year. I mean, i sweated last year to get the crowns on every killer + all the original survivors. But then i realized, that i never equipped the crowns. So why bother this year?
You don't have to do much on killer. The way I go about it is:
- Locate crown (nothing else exists or matters until I find it)
- Pick up crown (duh)
- Play more or less randomly until all the survivors are gone (in one way or another)

That's the thing. The matchmaking is taking so long because you're rank 20. Using your limited matches wisely to climb to the cutoff at 16/17, and then you should get more manageable queues.
At that point you can play any way you like (within reason) and you won't de-rank.
I am aware of how the matchmaking works. That's why I was hoping they'd have released MMR by now, since it would've resulted in shorter queues.
-
@Seraphor said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2324865#Comment_2324865
If that's the case then it should be easy enough to slaughter them for a few matches, climb to rank 16/17, at which point you'll get quicker queues and can play however you like.
It is easy enough, yes, but I only managed to play two trials in the last hour or so.
-
@Seraphor said:
You could just play badly. Pretty much the same result.
Takes too long, especially since I'm back at rank 20 and queues are long. I was hoping they'd release MMR before the anniversary.
-
@Bwsted said:
Just farm instead of going afk. They won't ban you for that and at least you get something out of it.
That takes too long. I'll just slaughter everyone, it's faster.
-
@Gay Myers (Luzi) said:
If do you it repeatedly, that can become bannable. It is highly recommended and advised to play the game the way it is intended, as going AFK does ruin the game for other people - going AFK once or twice due to an emergency is fine, but not over the course of multipel rounds. That can become bannable for not playing the game.
Yeah, I guessed as much. Thanks for the info.
-
Shows the crown's aura and apparently plays an audio cue when the pedestal changes locations.

@Tsulan said:
Well you could always play killer instead:
Gen rush, DC, DC, gen rush, gen rush, death threats, gen rush, ...
I'm just doing it for the crowns.

How come you only have nea at level 1? Did you prestige her or something?
No, I just never bothered to level her up. I got Urban Evasion in the Shrine (the only perk I wanted from her), so I didn't see the point.
EDIT: One of the reasons why the grind is so bad is because people want to unlock every perk on every character. Survivors are just skins; pick the one you prefer and use it. That's what I did with Jake, and now Felix. There's no reason to unlock, say, Boil Over when I know I'll never use it, unless I have excess BP to burn (which was indeed the case and is why I now have many more survivors at level 40).

That is why i bringed the perception issue, she might not know who repaired more at all.
Yes, and then you ended with
DBD promotes this, as in the example you bring, giving "tasks" with "rewards" that are not necessarily related to displaying much competence is fuel for conflict.
Implying you, like her, believe the only way to display competence is to fail at stealth and get hooked multiple times, to the point someone else has to be hooked in your stead or else you'll die.
-
Most of the survivors whom I've leveled up, I did so before this event. No cakes on any of them. The rest are level 1, save for Felix. No items, no add-ons, no offerings, just their base perks at tier 1.
-
@NaigEtarip said:
This is probably about perception of competence.
Was the outcome of the match negative for survivors?
Nancy cannot know all of what you did in the match, but to her "available information" you were the most probable of have displayed less competence due to; 0 hooks on later stages of the match, the perk that often means a playstyle of less risk or interaction with killer...
DBD promotes this, as in the example you bring, giving "tasks" with "rewards" that are not necessarily related to displaying much competence is fuel for conflict.
IMO, the guy who was actually working on generators and managed to be chased without being hooked is more competent than the one who didn't do either of those things. The problem with her, as with many survivors, is that they think looping, being hit, and getting hooked are, paradoxically, the only displays of skill.
-
@Firellius said:

You don't always have an opportunity to do this though. And considering the OP did take hookstates into account and ran sacrificial to get Nancy out, I doubt they were on zero hooks for lack of trying.
Indeed. Hard to take a hit when her chases are halfway across the map and I'm working on a generator. I think I only took one hit before that because I juked the Spirit during chases or ran toward areas that made it impractical for her to chase me.
Furthermore, I just want to point out that another survivor being bad at chases is not my problem and doesn't make me bad for not compensating for their failures.
-
The fact that you can't unlock the crowns on licensed characters is not a bug. That's how it worked last year too, just look up last year's PSA by yours truly if you want to know the basics.

Yeah but they stay around a certain number. Now for dbd they are over the top normally the number are around 40 to 50k not 100k. Take csgo for example im sure the number are always around those number they wont get a huge drop in 2 weeks but im sure dbd number will take a huge drop in 2 or 3 weeks and we will go back around the 50k player.
Before 40-50k was the norm, it was 20k, with spikes of 50-70k. Food for thought.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2322642#Comment_2322642
I don't think killers need to be punished with a requirement, why not just let anyone interact and get it? Or everyone has to interact a certain amount of times? It's much harder to find it and win than it is to find it.
Killers are allowed to do nothing but search for the crown and not even play if they choose, but that's not throwing?
Sure it is, but a lot more survivors than killers (yes, over the 4:1 ratio) did that during events where that was a thing, so it's not any more.

For better or for worse though is what I meant. A lot of things in the world lately are being influenced by activism and other things. Is the world more peaceful today because of it? Lately it seems like hatred is more popular than peace simply because people disagree with each other.
Well, that would certainly make for a fascinating discussion where I would point out historical patterns, false-flag attacks, bad faith actors, and so on, but it's not for this thread.

No, we're having a conversation. I dunno what you expected would happen, but discussions don't happen with people all agreeing with each other.
Anyway, I hope you learned that there are explicitly heterosexual relationships in the lore and that, if you don't care about the lore, it won't make a difference to you when they add LGBT relationships.
Later.

To be fair all game developers favor PC. Simple reason that they need certification when making updates or changes to console versions of games whereas pc games can be updated freely.
Another reason is that PC spends more money on games than all consoles combined (according to Wikipedia and at least as far as 2018).

That I was gonna say everyone is bi, which I wasn't, and that I'm in denial that they'd ever introduce a character that's LGBT lol I just prefer things being neutral and characters being open to interpretation. Just like that one dude thinks everyone is hetero, some other person might think they're all gay. That's the fun of keeping things ambiguous.
I said "if", because it wasn't clear what you meant.
I already told you they're not ambiguous, though. Several characters are (or were) in explicitly heterosexual relationships.
Finally, like @GoodBoyKaru said, you either care about the lore or you don't. Pick a lane.
-
@Apollos said:

I think you're assuming a lot.
Can you be specific? The devs have already said an LGBT character is coming, so that's a given. What am I assuming, exactly?
-
@Apollos said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2321145#Comment_2321145
Not interested in those characters, but I don't recall anything in particular other than Jane getting embarrassed on TV and driving off a cliff.
It's up to interpretation. Maybe you assume they're all heterosexual, but that doesn't mean everyone does. Characters like Ash are undeniably hetero based on Evil Dead, but there's nothing I've seen from other characters I like that would suggest their sexuality one way or the other. Honestly it's a lot more fun with them as semi-blank canvases than anything set in stone.
If you're going to pull the "but they might be bisexual" card, then keep in mind that's not an argument against having explicitly LGBT relationships, the same way there are explicitly non-LGBT relationships.
Furthermore, you should also keep in mind that we're not debating whether LGBT characters should be added or not, because they are coming, no matter what. At this point, arguing about that is like arguing with a meteorologist that it's not actually going to rain while the first droplets are already hitting the ground.

My point is where do you draw the line ? Every survivor that took part in a farming session can state, that they were being forced. How do you prove it ? Its up to BHVR to decide who to ban for farming and who not to. Also what is too much and what isnt.
If you're recording, it's quite obvious when you're being forced and when you're not. A person who's being forced to farm would try to get away, for example. They'd likely be killed on the hook (because they're not cooperating). There are many ways to tell.
If you don't want to farm, then don't. I don't understand why you're so concerned about other people being banned for forcing players to farm when you already said you don't like to farm and don't engage in farming.

Well its a tough job I'm sure. It feels like the world adds something new every 5 seconds to the list of harmful stereotypes, alongside with coming up with things to be offended by because reasons.
I know what you mean. Right now, the main thing to be offended by seems to be LGBT and/or non-white people being present in video games. I started playing Vampyr, which features an LGBT couple, an interracial couple, and non-white people in general who don't fit their respective stereotypes, and you can't imagine the Steam threads.

@Zucker_Schock said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2321119#Comment_2321119
Again, what do you interpret as forcing someone ? Its either not the case or always the case if not everyone is doing it.
A survivor being hook farmed, for example. The killer hooks them, allows another survivor to unhook, then downs them and hooks them again, while other survivors body block.
A survivor being downed, picked up and dropped over and over again so they're freed, then downed again.
I'm sure you get the idea.

I know it can be. I look at the world though and wonder sometimes how much really does influence people's creative decisions.
Some of Van Gogh's paintings were influenced by his stay at an asylum. They're still beautiful.
Einstein's theory on the photoelectric effect was influenced by a mathematician who reached a result he couldn't understand. The theory is still valid in physics.
The Doom franchise was influenced by one of the developers' "stint" making Commander Keen games. Doom is still fun to play.
Marie Curie was influenced by sexism. She is still one of the greatest scientists of all time who made an enormous contribution to science.
Everything you've ever enjoyed, seen, or heard about was influenced by something else, because things don't exist in a vacuum.

I was talking about gaming in general. Everything should come naturally without fear or obligation.
Funny you should mention that. The only things developers add that they didn't want to come as a result of orders from management. However, you'll rarely see anyone accept that LGBT stuff can be added "naturally without fear or obligation". Really makes you think, doesn't it?
EDIT: Just for the record, you know how we get patches, bug fixes, and so on? Those are a direct result of fear of bad press, because no developer is actually obligated to do that. Back when there were no patches, the game was shipped as-is. If you encountered a game-breaking bug, well, tough #########. You had to use a workaround (if one existed), or be left with an unplayable game.

The mods have already confirmed that farming is only bannable if you force people into it.

Good news then: nobody has screamed at the devs for anything, they're the ones who said they'd do it.

There are tens of thousands of players, though. You're not the only person playing this. Furthermore, if you didn't want games to remind you of reality, you wouldn't play one with human characters and licensed content (which is literally characters from well-known, real-life franchises).

The very core of your game had been rendered meaningless via this issue. The console client has been in a state of emergency for weeks because the game is entirely meaningless when you cannot properly chase in your game.
This isn't "fps loss" or "performance issues" or however you want to underplay it. I've spent money on killers that powers fundamentally don't work.
We should have devs on the forums being far more transparent about what the actual issues are and we should be being compensated for every week we are having to put up with it. Instead we get radio silence except a downplaying post and a few very selective downplaying tweets.
Yes games media should be involved because apparently that gets actual members of behavior in the thread I'm 5mins talking to us..

isn't it weird that we have to kill the LGBT+ community in DBD? Like if your adding gay survivors, its essentially a hate crime in a game centered around survivors being punished by the entity. i dunno it seems off to me that you guys want your representatives to continuously die and be tormented.
You should look up what hate crimes actually are. It's not a hate crime to kill virtual characters in a video game. It might be harassment of the players playing as those characters, but it's certainly not a hate crime.
