I'm Black. I'm female. I love Bubba. It isn't racist. Bubba literally collects all faces because he wants to collect attributes he feels he lacks. People would know that if they bothered to watch any of the movies of read any research about serial killers (both real life and fictional) and understand the psyche of this type of group of people. If anyone says it's racist please link my post.
Nobody says it's racist, just for the record. The person who made a thread supposedly calling this racist clarified they were looking for opinions.

Yeah, I don't buy the territory thing. Diversity is easy enough if you stop duplicating models/regions.
We got multiple white males, white females, black males, oriental females. It'd be really easy to add more diversity if you stop duplicating what you already have. One model can look like nearly enough a massive range if you choose something generic enough.
We've got survivors from Lebanon, China, Japan, Sweden, and (presumably) Korea, among other regions. In fact, other than licensed characters, the devs have made survivors from multiple countries.
Each model is different, it's not as easy as you think.

I don't understand any of this (and am happy to be educated about it) - why does the sexual orientation matter? It's not like the game revolves around making these kinds of life choices... it's about survival. Running from a killer! Where exactly is it relevant to wonder whether character X likes boys, girls, or boys and girls, etc? How does that effect gameplay?
And particularly on the subject of identification with the characters, how about this? We have multiple white characters, multiple black characters, and multiple oriental characters (if I can use that term), both in male and female varients. Where are the South-Asian-esque characters? People of a polynesian, or indian/middle-eastern background, where is their representation? When I play the game, there is literally no character that even comes close to resembling me in appearance - if it's about representation, surely this should be addressed first, before addressing factors that aren't even a part of the gameplay?
Sexual orientation doesn't matter, it's just another piece of lore. If you don't read the lore, it won't affect you.
There are only so many survivors in the game and over 200 independent territories. It might take a while before they cover every region on the globe. Be patient.

Good point, Orion. Off topic btw, I admire you very much for your integrity in this forums. always quick, on point and respectful responses! I am glad that this community has people like you :)
And regarding the LGBT, I somehow think that the devs know that a part of this community includes LGBT people, and just want to make this game as enjoyable for anyone as it can be. The same thing applies to the characters released after Jeff too, you can see that the devs started making survivors more diverse and not as lifeless as before.
Thank you.

The only reason I can see not to like people innocently advertising their content creation is because you're jealous that nobody would watch you. Cause other than that, they aren't really hurting anyone. Either that or it's a completely unfounded and irrational anger, and you should probably seek an anger management consultant.

That's just you being a bad killer. Dodging 1000+ hours (time played =! skill, especially in DBD), and P3 cosmetics. Big OOF.
I don't like ads in my games, so I can understand why people would be upset that someone would have an issue with a walking billboard.
-
Because the devs support the LGBT community and some of their employees are LGBT themselves. Just a wild guess.
And yes, profit is also relevant. They're a company, saying they do something for profit is like saying the ocean is salty; it adds nothing to the discussion.

Community request is exactly my entire point I have been making here (though you don't seem to read anything I have wrote?) I have said it multiple times, if the devs feel the desire to make LGBT characters in DBD, they would do that without anyone asking them to. DBD, again, is not a sexual game where we need LGBT or even straight characters, we don't need to know the sexual orientation of the characters here. Asking for such is nothing but pushing on agenda that has no place in DBD. You, just like everyone else in favor of LGBT, has failed to represent a valid argument as to why there needs to be LGBT characters in the game. All that you guys can say is that it's what you want. Heck, I want to ride a pony in DBD, but it has nothing to do with the game so why would the devs go out of their way to add it just for me and few of those within the entire community who want to ride a pony in the game.
"It does nothing to affect the quality of video games" - Tell that to Mass effect Andromeda and Overwatch, and the rest of all the amazing games that were heavily influenced by your ideology. There's entire documentaries made out of these games where people explain in great detail how the LGBT community went their way to change these games and how they affected the quality of them negatively, taking away from the majority while pandering to minority. Some of my favorite games have been ruined due to this LGBT stuff, so excuse me if I don't find this something I want to support. Again, I have nothing against LGBT in general, just when it's pushed on video games that have nothing to do with sexuality.
You think that people are against LGBT simply because they don't want that in DBD, but what you fail to understand is exactly the reason why they don't want it. There have been multiple comments stating "DBD is not a sexual game, so why do we need stuff like LGBT in it". To which you and everyone else in favor of this can only reply to as "You hate LGBT, why are you against it! There are straight characters in the lore so why not LGBT characters, bla bla bla"...
For the sake of this argument having any value to continue, PLEASE, explain to me why do you feel the need that DBD should have LGBT stuff in it. Do that and we have a real conversation worth to discuss.
I played ME:A and saw nothing of "my" ideology (funny that you know nothing about my ideology, but you ascribed an ideology to LGBT and because I'm LGBT, I must automatically adopt that ideology as well). Hell, the only reference I saw to LGBT was the fact that you could bone any one of your teammates (which you've been able to do since ME 2, I believe). I was more concerned about the egregious graphical problems like the absolutely haunting expressions.
I think that people are against LGBT because they had no problem with sexuality being in the game until it might include LGBT, yes. I don't think that's unreasonable. Say I gave you two identical desserts, except one was made with dark chocolate and another with white chocolate. If you didn't like one of them, am I supposed to assume it's because of every ingredient that they share, or the one ingredient that makes them different?
I don't feel the need that DbD should have LGBT stuff in it. It's gonna be put in the lore, which almost nobody even reads. On the other hand, since it can make some people feel more welcome and won't affect the gameplay, I see no reason to oppose this.
I'd like to conclude by paraphrasing what someone else said in another comment (not sure which thread): it's baffling that straight people can just be added to a game with no problem, but LGBT people require a reason for existing in that same game or else it's something that should be opposed.

thats a scenario that definitely will come true. And is already true. There are people only targeting black chars for example, even for different non-racist reasons (if you believe them).
that should not be the reason to not include LGBT though. As it is not a reason to take black chars out of the game.
either you will not be able to tell if the targeting happened due to hatred or other circumstantial reasons: then nothing would even change for the players.
or those that do target out of hatred will put themselves in the chat, can get reported and BHVR will deal with this.
You should edit your comment to clarify that only the "targeting" part has come true, not the "fiasco" part.

Alright, look, maybe I'm just pessimistic or something but I'd like to try and communicate to you the long term effects of things like certain characters being LGBT or cosmetics. Quick tag on @Orion too because it's directly relevant to our discussion and I'm going to catch some sleep after I make this post.
Imagine for a moment that there is a designated LGBT character or cosmetics relating to LGBT. Naturally, there will be people who target these survivors and cosmetics intentionally either for a laugh or out of actual hatred. The distinction between these two groups will be practically unidentifiable. What happens then? A fiasco, that's what. There's more than enough victim complexes around here to go around even without this stuff added into the mix. Now add in some political correctness culture to create a proverbial grease fire.
Is that a worst case scenario that will never come to pass? Honestly, I hope so.
We've had those same issues with black and/or female characters for 4 years and no fiasco ensued. Fact is, trolls get bored pretty quickly if you just ignore them. Hell, most get themselves banned because they go on record to say that they targeted this or that player for playing this or that character.
So yes, I believe that's a worst case scenario that will never come to pass. Even the threads you read about how "someone" said Leatherface wearing Claudette's skin is racist can't seem to provide a single person who actually said it. There's just no substance to any of these claims and the fact that the game is still standing strong (and growing) after 4 years is proof of it.

Yeah, that's true, but that doesn't really help ease the tension of the announcement because there's no certainty as to what's being done. It was vague and has just as great a chance to be a meaningless gesture as it does of being an invasive immersion killing disaster. Of course there are people that are going to be extremely concerned. How could they not be?
It wasn't vague at all if you'd been following the game's lore. They're gonna have mentions of relationships in the lore, just like they've been doing for the past 4 years. At most, maybe we'll get some paid cosmetics (because money) but that's it.

You use the words "didn't have a problem." The truth is that they didn't care. They didn't pay any attention because they don't want to. So, LGBT comes in and not only cares but wants everyone to pay attention for "awareness." Are you starting to understand why there's pushback yet? People don't want preached to through a videogame any more than they want an ad to interrupt them while playing.
Who said they wanted everyone to pay attention to this? Point them out, please. All I saw was one tweet from the devs and that was it.
Yes, I know why there's pushback, it's because one group (not LGBT) is making a big deal out of this and pretending another group (LGBT) is the one making a big deal out of it. The majority of the threads bringing up the subject are from people who "don't care" about or even actively dislike the idea, not from people who do like it.
-
Where did people say this? Point them out, please. I've been here for over 14k posts and only saw people claim that they saw others say it was racist, but nobody's been able to pony up some proof.

This is exactly my point with stuff like this. Real gamers don't care about if their characters are straight, gay, lesbian, or whatever. Pushing that kind of thing is exactly what makes people on defence nowadays because we have seen what it does to video games. Devs are put on a leash by the most loudest minority group to push their agenda, not for the sake of enjoying the game more, but just simply to get what they want, to remind them that yes, they can change and control video games and make devs bend to their wishes and demands.
if devs really wanted to offer LGBT stuff out of their own desire, they would do that without having to hear the community ask for it. Now, if this was an adult game or a romance story, etc, then obviously the devs would have a good reason to make LGBT characters to reach a wider audience, but again, I remind you, DBD is not a game about sexuality, so why is this so important to some people to have such characters in the game?
So now it's bad if they change their minds based on community requests?
"What it does to video games" is put a certain group on the defense. The outrage and backlash comes from that group and those who are swayed by them. It does nothing to affect the quality of video games.
If LGBT relationships had been treated just like heterosexual relationships were, most of the threads on the subject wouldn't be here, because nobody gives a #########. There'd be mentions in the lore (that these same people claim not to read or care about) and that'd have been it.
-

Okay, and where's the nearest one of those torture camps as compared to you? Or compared to BHVR's offices, for that matter? How about all the torture camps for people declared undesirables and dissidents in the Xinjiang annex region of mainland China? Do you champion their cause on the internet too? If you did, would you do it on a videogame forum? You're not a hero, don't act like one.
P.S. Arguing with someone by assuming their logic isn't a "deflection." In fact it's the total opposite so, y'know, maybe get some perspective.
You've yet to acknowledge that people didn't have a problem with the lore mentioning sexual orientations until it was about LGBT, which is why it looks like an anti-LGBT thing. Please do (or address the argument in some other way) so we can move on.

This is the same situation when that one guy asked from the Gears 5 devs if the female protagonist of the story is lesbian. WHAT. DOES. THAT. HAVE. TO. DO. WITH. THE. GAME. There are games for the LGBT audience if they are looking to enjoy stuff like that. Having straight characters in a video game does not obligate the devs to equalize the ground by offering LGBT characters, they offer and make them if that's something they want to do out of their own decision.
And I'll ask you again, what does being straight have to do with the game? Nothing, just like the entire lore. The devs are including it because they want to, yet people are here saying they shouldn't (because reasons) and blaming the LGBT community for "threatening" them or whatever.
-
@DeadArsenal said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1355295#Comment_1355295
"Majority of people are either supportive of or indifferent to all sexual orientations" eh? If that's true why do you feel so victimized and unincluded? 🤔 Could it be that, just maybe, there are people that go out of their way to make themselves victims? People that, when pushing for change, immediately declare themselves victimized the moment anyone resists that change? You say everyone knows and can see what I'm trying to do. That's equally true for you. This isn't about tolerance or inclusion because people are both tolerant and inclusive. It's about ego, it's about being publicly recognized or else.
It's because the silent majority tacitly approves of the vocal minority's treatment of the LGBT community, like the torture camps children are sent to by their parents due to being LGBT. Raising awareness for these issues is important.
Nice deflection of the fact that people didn't have a problem with this until it involved LGBT, though.

I get that you're talking about BHVR, trust me. My point is that it happens and every marketing and public relations department in the world knows it happens. You know who wants to hold that hot potato? Nobody. So guess who folds? Everybody. The specter of that hangs over us, and as much as everyone likes to think it's all very innocent it's not. The average person doesn't pay attention to or care about Frank and Julie, especially since they're never even on screen together. The average person doesn't want to pay attention to any of this sexual orientation crap. But if they voice that they are quickly declared bigots or trolls.
When the "average person" (not true, the majority of people are either supportive of or indifferent to all sexual orientations) only speaks out against non-heterosexual orientations, that's what it sounds like. There was no outrage about any sexual orientations from anyone until the devs mentioned LGBT. That's the only difference, that the devs mentioned LGBT. So you may pretend this has nothing to do with LGBT, but the fact is nobody gave a ######### until it was about LGBT. Everyone knows and can see what you're trying to do.

The only way to get out of the deadlock is if you are communicating with everyone else, which is impossible if you are solo survivor.
Or you can equip perks to prevent that situation and communicate better with your team. Hell, you can just drop a Discord link in the chat and boom, instant SWS (Survive With Strangers).
