Time to work on your stealth if you're in those areas.

I'm basically a god. The killers and the Entity run from me. So do the survivors, come to think of it... Y'know, I think I'm just ugly. :(

In the books that scene was relevant. Pennywise goes into hibernation every so often and an act of great violence causes him to wake up. A bunch of homophobes beating up a couple because they are ghey is an act of racism/sexism whichever it's called. It acts as the catalyst to wake him up and start the 2nd half of the book. In the movie they didn't go over that much. I think they just did it in the movie as a tribute to the book.
Yeah, the only issue with that scene is that they didn't tie it to the book's explanation. Other than that, I thought it was an accurate representation of what it's like to be LGBT in certain countries (or certain parts of certain countries). The brutality was the point and the fact that people were disgusted should prompt them to do more for the LGBT community in those places.

Yeah I understand what you're saying. It's as if people dont want lgbt lore because of lgbt in general. Its hypocritical to encourage hetero relationships but not homo. I get what you mean. Some people just arent used to and accustomed to change in certain areas or just dont like the change in general. Because of the way other forms of media handled it alot of people dont like forced lgbt. This is what I was saying earlier. The whole point of the controversy is people dont like change.
Thank you! Finally, someone willing to see things from a different PoV.
With that in mind, every single LGBT person will likely agree with you about the issue of LGBT characters vs. characters who are LGBT. We have the same concern - characters are created to be LGBT and it becomes their defining characteristic, as opposed to characters who are created and then also happen to be LGBT. We understand that nobody likes that (ourselves included).
The issue right now is completely unrelated to that. The issue is what I said and what I've been saying these past couple of days: every single complaint people are making also applies to other stuff already present in the game. However, none of these things seemed to have been an issue back then, so why now? That is the problem, that people are treating this differently seemingly because it's about LGBT. That is why many of us are upset.
We share your concerns about the possibility of poor writing, tokenism, etc.. We just ask that LGBT-related things be treated the same way other things already in the game were treated: fairly, and without making a big deal out of it.

Whether its lgbt or not tho I honestly dont think the game should focus on killers relationships. We have 4 of the entities killing machines. Devoid of emotion. Were already aware the 4 characters have a strong relationship. It would make more sense to expand on the characters childhood and events leading up the the group killing.
That's not the point I'm trying to make. Again, put yourself in my shoes for a minute and try to see things from my point of view, as I explained it. Can you see why some people might interpret these complaints in a certain way?

So let the orientation of the characters be on the conscience of the players. Let the players decide for themselves who and what orientation in their subjective opinion is. Let it be a secret in this game. No official confirmation is required.
It's even better. Players will come up with interesting guesses and build intrigues.
Again, that's no longer possible and hasn't been possible since the Nurse.

I see what you mean there I guess. Judging from how they've written frank and julie they're most likely gonna do the second option.
Frank and Julie were the exception. Every other character has had very small mentions of their exes or crushes or whatever. My point is that Frank and Julie's lore was expanded in precisely the way everyone says is bad, yet nobody batted an eye. However, when it's about LGBT characters, without even knowing how the devs are going to do it, suddenly everyone cries out.
I said something similar to another forumgoer, but I'd like to ask you to put yourself in my shoes for a minute. Every single complaint people have made about the quality of the LGBT character's hypothetical lore (keep in mind nothing has been released thus far, not even their name) is present in Frank and Julie's real lore. However, Frank and Julie received zero backlash, whereas the LGBT character's hypothetical lore is receiving a ######### ton of backlash, including from people who don't even read or care about the lore in the first place. How am I to assume this is anything other than thinly veiled excuses to exclude LGBT people from the game when the things they complain about are already in the game, yet received zero complaints?

I say again: it is not necessary to touch and conduct "wars" on this theme. The topic with the addition of LGBT characters is very "sharp" and will cause a huge number of opposing opinions, thereby further splitting the game's community, which is already split and barely holds due to numerous disputes about who to "buff/nerf".
LGBT characters are already in the game, their orientation just hasn't been confirmed yet. If we were to avoid confirming or adding anything that could make people react poorly, this game wouldn't exist. No games would, in fact.

Julie and Frank being in a relationship actually made sense to the character lore and it wasnt the entire basis for the legion as a killer. I'm gonna give an example just because your not understanding. The devs pretty much did this
"Julie and frank are dating. Julie and frank were high school sweethearts. Moving on" instead of "the entire basis of the legion is built on julie and Frank's relationship. Julie and Frank's relationship is the reason the four killers banded together. Did we mention julie and Frank are dating." The entire reason people are confused and complaining is because the media and many companies like Netflix are doing the second example instead of the first. It would be fine if it was "(insert character name here) was on a jog with her wife when she got separated in a Forrest within the entities mist and came out the other side infront of a camp fire." Instead of this current Entertainment does "(insert character name here) was jogging home from her pride parade with her wife. Both of them were wearing matching rainbow headbands. When suddenly the fog surrounded her leaving her wife behind. The fog made the LGBTQ facepaint on (insert character name here)'s face start to run"
People are fine with a gay character. They dont however like a character being gay their only characteristic.
Did you actually read Frank and Julie's lore? Seriously, go read it. What you're complaining about that they're totally gonna do with LGBT characters is exactly how they did it with Frank and Julie. I'll give you a couple handy links:

So don't need to add anything else to the game on this topic, let everything remain as it is. This topic is better to "go around a kilometer". It is better to avoid problems in advance than to sit and suffer later.
Wrong. Other than the Nurse, we also have Dwight, David, and Frank and Julie. Frank and Julie's expanded lore (from the rift) is almost entirely about their relationship, constantly shoving how straight they are down our throats every other sentence. However, they received no complaints.

Lmao now your putting words in my mouth for no reason. I said people dont like. How is me saying people dont like FORCED lgbt roles in games saying lgbt roles shouldnt be in games. Forcing something down someone's throat =/ introducing or reminding someone about something. This is the thing alot of people dont like about the LGBT community. Any criticism that they receive is automatically them not being welcome or wanted in their eyes. No one is gonna get mad from a gay character being added in. people will however get angry when they're reminded every 5 seconds that a character is gay and it's being shoved down their throats. I still dont understand how you got gay people dont belong in the game from that.
That's not how the devs did it for any other character except Frank and Julie, so there's a good precedent that that's how they'll do it for others as well.
Frank and Julie, for the record, received zero complaints, despite their expanded lore being focused on their relationship, shoving their straightness down our throats every other sentence.

Stop making this a Straight vs. Gay topic, or a fight, or a debate, because it isn't. They made 1 DLC, I can't wait what Price Tags they'll add to this character's clothes, and charms and DLC only based off their sexuality.
It's just Price Tags, that's it. Stop it with this Gay vs Straight thing I've seen you post around the forums.

Homophobic?
You think wanting to keep characters the same, untouched, because it clearly doesn't belong in this game is homophobic?
People have related to these characters for years and imagine changing them 4 years later.
Do you not understand? Or is your White Knighting, PC attitude getting in the way of also understanding that "The Other Side" also exists and have valid complaints.
I Love "inclusion" and diversity, because then you can surround yourself with nothing but people who only agree with you while pushing away those that don't.
Very "inclusive" if you ask me.
- The characters will not be changed, their orientations will simply be revealed.
- Fan fiction/Head canons are a thing in every fanbase, so let's not pretend more lore changes anything. The whole point of fan fiction and head canons is that you make up your own stuff.
- Yes, complaining about revealing which characters we already have are LGBT while staying silent about the heterosexual ones that were revealed does seem remarkably like homophobia, since the only difference is the orientation of the characters.

There shouldnt be a character in any game whose only reason to exist is because of a sexuality. Whether its hetero or homo. It's a game.
Yes, someone did say that. Specifically, you.
People dont exactly like those elements being forced into areas where they shouldn't be.
Moving on, nobody likes that, but the fact that some characters we already have are LGBT and nobody noticed means that's not how the devs did it. So why all the complaints?

No not really. As far as leaks and reviews show about the story being bad some of these characters literally have no plot or story arcs besides them being gay. Almost every character in the first game had a reason to be there tess helped deliver ellie sam and Henry helped them escape the hunters and bill guided them through the town.
Just focusing on Bill, who is the one I remember best, he helped guide them through his town. If he'd been absent or dead, the story would've progressed the same way: you would've killed some infected, put the car together, and left. He adds nothing of value to the story.
-
@GottaBlast said:
As part of the LGBT this confused me a little. I don't have a problem obviously with LGBT, like cosmetics would be cool but I also like the "make it your own", y'know? You personally get to decide what you see the character as, as they are right now they literally don't have a sexuality. If you want em gay, make em gay, the world is your oyster. If the devs want to actively add LGBT characters that's fine too, I just don't understand why the current ones would need to be changed... I'm fact I'd love to see new LGBT survivors/Killers, I think it'd be rad. I just don't think we should change the originals.
Some of the current characters are LGBT, that's the point. Only a few are confirmed straight, so the devs want to expand the lore for all of them and reveal their orientations, just like they did for Frank and Julie.

I mentioned them. The many characters that are put into the game just for being gay and add no actual story or reason to the game.
Every game has characters that add nothing to the plot. It's called "filler". The first one had them too, you know.
Also, just for the record, you said "plots". I expected literal story arcs (maybe side-quests or something).

Eh no not really. One of the main factions in the game is Christian but the game puts emphasis on them being Christian straight and white. This sounds like a joke yes but the game pretty much vilifies them for no reason. Theres alot of characters in the game that have no reason or add anything to the plot but seem dropped in just so they can have another gay character. The writing team adds them in but gives almost no plot to them.
Sounds like they were going for a KKK parable, then. Writers do that sometimes, like how the Empire in Star Wars is based on the Nazis.
EDIT: Still waiting to hear what "LGBTQ plots" are, though.

First broadly speaking identiy politics is something I wildly disagree with.
And LGBT is two different political ideologys with both gender and sexualty being admittedly somewhat related but independent of each other.
Advocating for representives based on arbitrary traits is to ascribe agenda and classify that trait as a collective instead of individuals. I know doing so creates stereo types and other harmful products that divide.
I disagree that x looking individuals or x sexualty active people together what something.
I would say that a person who happens to be x would want something.
Nextly
To call for representation of these groups as thread has is, to support and endorse these groups Possitively. I make that assumption because if it was negatively representative it would in practice be to say "this lbgt charater was sent to the fog for there wicked deeds of...same sex sleeping" or something. So I think we can all agree we only want positive endorsement.
To positively endorse lgb
You have to support and believe sexualty doesn't matter, this belive while personally I find very enjoyable myself is harmful for reproduction and the social balance of building strong family units to produce well rounded individuals. Not everything is clear cut good and bad and until social engineering can solve the issues that are created by the repercussions of ideals they shouldn't be blindly supported.
To support T
is another headache entirely.
Does gender matter ? Should gender matter ? If there are no differences between the sexes whatsoever then sports bathrooms fields of medicine wouldn't exist. Can we get LeBron join the women's league to score 489 points a game? or dismantle women's leagues altogether and force them out by male dominated athletes.. sure some will make it and even outperform men but not many. The world isn't functionally ready to let go of gender.
Now if it does matter...and we know its biological for a fact... is it all mental or chemical imbalance? the scary questions come up next. Is transgender something wrong to be cured? The same technology that could be used to help people transition could also be used to stop it... thats some spooky stuff I don't want to touch.
Do we try to help people with dismorpha settle into there own body's or do we try to change body's... thats tuff to say. And I know my friend struggles with that choice for what will be their entire life. And the treatments are brutal.
So i can't say id promote that positively... i can't say I'd tell people or children that being these things are fun or acceptable when they might need help instead
I think going for neutrality is best. To say it doesn't matter what you like or who you love you can be yourself without labels and speak and think the way you want without a group doing it for you
Forgive me, but I don't have the time to debate you on all those wrong assumptions, like the notion that LGBT families don't produce well-rounded individuals. I appreciate the effort you went to, though.
Bottom line, all the devs are doing is confirming which characters are LGBT and which are not. This is an expansion of the lore and is no more a political statement about LGBT than having women is about feminism or having black people is about BLM. They'd already been doing this for heterosexual characters, so LGBT characters should get the same treatment. This is equality (or neutrality, as you put it). It's treating LGBT people the same as non-LGBT people.

Basically. The last of us one was already a game known for having gay characters but they weren't forced and actually made sense to the plot and story. a few leaks for the new game show that LGBTQ plots are being forced into the game with them making no sense to the story. The game also shows heterosexual characters as "bigot sandwiches" and portrays straight white Christians as evil.
What are "LGBTQ plots"?
Also, the vast majority of characters in post-apocalyptic scenarios that aren't actively helping you are portrayed as evil, it has nothing to do with them being straight, white, or christian. Sounds to me like some people just aren't familiar with the genre.

What makes you think that every character thus far (except those ones, who have relationships mentioned in bio) hasn't been asexual? It's not like there are moments in lore, where characters go "woah, I like this girl/boy" (except Julie's archive, which, again doesn't exclude the possibility of her having relationships with girls before Frank appears in her life). It's not like characters express their sexuality in-game during trials. It's not like anyone, except Ash and Adiris, even speaks in this game.
We don't know, that's the point. That's what the devs want to reveal via expansions of the lore.

In DBD or outside DBD, my point still stands. If you want someone in here to represent a particular group you need to also accept that character will be
Hit with a machete
Hit by a chainsaw
Mauled by a blunt object
Impaled by a hook
Have a RBT on their head
Get sent to a cage
Have a finger chopped off
ect
See, my point is that I haven't seen anyone say otherwise, which is why I asked you to point out who'd been saying these things. Otherwise, it just looks like you're arguing with a strawman.

@Elcopollo said:
The whole situation is actually very stupid, in my opinion.
It's like civil war in the community for literally no reason.
What's the problem with making characters gay/bi/lesbian/trans/etc. in fanfiction, headcanons and role-play forums? In-game it doesn't need to be highlighted, unless it serves a purpose of developing the character's lore arc. As it was mentioned before by many, it doesn't matter who these characters find sexually attractive, it's not like there's an option to romance anyone. If you want to associate yourself with a character on a sexuality-level, then just make your head-canon list, where the character you like has a sexuality that you have. In what universe is it a hard thing to do?
For example. Some people are shipping Dwight and Meg. And some people are shipping Dwight and Jake. Would it be possible to canonize either of these relationships without metaphorically spitting in a face of the side, who hasn't been chosen? No. So why not keep that "use your imagination" attitude, so that everyone can be happy?
With that being said, it's perfectly fine if they create a new original character, who is lgbt+. Or if they implement a licensed character, who is said to be lgbt+ in the original source. But don't pull the inadequate card of J.K., please.
I have never seen fan fiction writers deterred by lore. That's kinda the point of fan fiction.
Also, it's not like every character thus far has been straight. Only a few have had explicit heterosexual relationships or leanings, but many others haven't had anything confirmed or hinted at.

Therte is no active push to get this game banned in the USA, but it sure was used in videos to push the idea that video games are excessive vioolence, and the clips used were specifically Huntress hacking away on Claudette with an axe LOL

Current administration in the US has used videos of Huntress mori Claudette as evidence of "violence in video games" I am not saying they will use a LGBT survivor as hate crime proof, but this game is already being used in videos as evidence they need to censor some games and is very real.
Damn, I didn't know that. It sucks that those groups are trying to censor our beloved game. Fortunately, BHVR is a Canadian company, so they still have the rest of the world to sell to even if the current USA administration succeeds in getting the game banned from the USA.

DBD is trying to be politically correct now? Killers beware of Adam and Claudette!
DbD is trying to expand the lore, just like they've been doing since the rifts started.

Its funny you think these politics won't affect anyone but people you don't like...
If you dont think things can't be mistaken for hate speech and shut down in a murder game ur blind.
And if you dont think that adding politics like this that are banned in Eastern country's won't just get the entire game banned ur in for a shock.
Not to mention how harmful and dangerous promoting these ideas are to begin with
What politics are you talking about? I heard nothing about any politics being added to the game.
Sure, things can be mistaken for other things, but that's where the mods step in. I trust their judgement. That's why I'm not worried when some survivors reported me for "wallhacking", because I know I'm innocent.
Again, what politics are you talking about? And sure, maybe it'll get the game banned in certain countries, but not from every country. The fact that the game has supernatural elements is enough for it to be censored in certain countries, for example, but I never heard you advocate against those.
Who's promoting any ideas? It's literally just expanding the lore. Is it harmful and dangerous to promote the lore?

One is not the host. We've had dedicated servers for a while.

It's not a fever dream it's literally all these groups ever talk about, want special things made and when that's to hard they take things already made and when that's not possible they shut xyz person place or thing down when it doesn't go there way. Chuck all these dumb politics right in the bin I don't want them in video games
False reports don't get you banned, false police reports don't get you arrested, and the game isn't going to be shut down just because they confirm which characters are LGBT, the same way it wasn't shut down when they confirmed which characters were straight.

I find it hilarious how one group think they can just claim a month and everyone should agree to it.
But yeah this feels like pandering and soon we probably get "legendary lgbtq" skins that cost 20 usd or more.
You don't have to agree with anything. In my country, for example, we don't celebrate it. Nobody's forcing you to participate any more than I have to participate in the French celebration of July 14th. To me, it's just another day, same as the entire month of June.
