Remind me again who prompted this? Was it someone who said BHVR better not be inclusive or else? Not that I can recall. Funny thing, there's streamers that are being subjected to coordinated social justice crusades as we speak. Out of sight out of mind right? Awfully convenient though.
Show me the threats, then. What I saw was that Mathieu had a conversation with one individual who may or may not be LGBT, and then made this decision. No mention of threats or heckling. That one individual is also not representative of the LGBT community.

Do you all know that this thread is useless as devs wont add anything related with sexual orientation right? Anyway if they add *insert orientation char* I want a black killer becuz there is not black killers are they racist?
You get what I mean and how much stupid is the thread?
The devs already added heterosexuals, so why not LGBT? And we do have black killers like the Wraith and the Doctor.
Like I said, none of you care about these issues, you're just trying to manufacture controversy so you can then pretend it's a controversial subject.

Nurse doesn't have schizophrenia, she has PTSD and delusions.
So you don't know that schizophrenia can develop in people who suffered traumatic events? What are your qualifications, exactly? Because I'm a physicist and even I know that. Hell, her lore says she went insane in a way that is very similar to schizophrenia.

I'm actually a hardened Doctor main (trust me I tried nurse once and don't want to play her again after discovering her mechanics). And I do care, I'm just mad that everybody puts their attention towards lgbtq and ignores the world of mental illnesses (that is VERY patronized and opressed). I'm not saying that being Gay is a mental illness (it isn't, even I am into some sissy stuff once in a while), about the Transgender thing; it's true that some people truly identify themselves with another gender due to their brain structure, but there are also people that want to change their gender to "fix" their mental issues (like my gf and some other acquaintances of mine that I helped to understand and better deal with their issues [at least I hope so]).
Nurse and Doctor have been here for multiple years. You're not mad at anything, you're just trying to manufacture controversy. It's not like you care about representation all of a sudden, which is why decided to pick things that aren't normally included in video games: disabled people and mentally ill people. I've proven that we have had them for a while now, but you just keep pressing the issue instead of admitting that you're wrong.

True, still hallucinations aren't schizophrenia. They're a symptom that can be caused by physical or emotional distress.
His hallucinations are induced madness (hey, that's the name of the mechanic!), which is why other killers don't produce the same effects. Then there's the Nurse, who's likely schizophrenic. Again, I can tell you care very little about this since you don't even know anything about these characters.

I'm not against it, I just want them to go all the way and dive into mental illnesses as well (since it's my field) instead of focusing solely on gays and the lgbt #########.
Well, you've had Doctor for a while now, as well as Nurse. Now can we focus on the LGBT #########, or is 3 years of the Doctor and almost 4 years of the Nurse not enough? I'm guessing it matters very little to you since you didn't even notice either of these characters.

I don't think he caused depression nor schizophrenia. I read all about MKUltra and this field (both IRL and in his lore). It has literally nothing to do with causing mental illnesses and everything to do with knowledge and torture.
His mechanic is literally called "Madness", which makes you hallucinate, hear voices, and scream.

He's not schizophrenic nor depressed. And I don't think he's related to mental illnesses in any way (except the sole fact that he worked in an institute). I was saying that if they choose to go for something controversial, they may as well go all the way.
He tinkered with people's brains to cause schizophrenia and depression, among other things. A schizophrenic friend of mine would probably liken him to her hallucinations, trying to mess with her head.

Do you know that in some countries it's practically a death sentence if anyone finds out? I'm quite aware of the adversity facing homosexuals throughout the world. That's hardly what's being addressed here. They're facing true injustice and you? Well, you're feeling unincluded. Forgive me if I don't see the relation here. You ever hear the phrase "first world problems" before?
The demand to be constantly recognized and catered to cheapens the struggle of real people facing real cruelty all over the world. People are here heckling BHVR over "inclusion" not to save a person's life or to free them from oppression. I think you need to get your priorities straight here, because they are shockingly out of order.
Furthermore, don't pretend like this is anything other than a threat to the developers. Saying "no" subjects them to the full fury of social justice warriors that don't even play this game and have never heard of it. This is a circus and you know it.
Show me one person who heckled or threatened BHVR over not including LGBT. Because all I see are people heckling and threatening them for daring to include LGBT.

Everything that tries has died/ failed to compete.
Evolve, F13, Predator, RE Resistance, Last Year and even Bhvr's own game Deathgarden failed to come anywhere near DbD in terms of player count and success.
DbD is the WoW of it's genre competition exists some decent it just can't get close to DbD
Small nitpick: Evolve was not trying to compete against DbD, it was an older game that had failed all on its own well before DbD was even launched.

Yes, having multiple people say that LGBT characters should not be explicitly mentioned in the game and a few even saying they outright hate LGBT people definitely makes us feel welcome. And you're right, we definitely want capitulation, that's why we demanded this of BHVR; they obviously didn't do this of their own free will.

Just sounds like pandering that isn't needed. It's just a game where people run from their lives from a killer. No one's stopping midgame to let you know their gender/sexuality. Really seems unnecessary, to be honest.
Some people like reading the lore. For example, Frank and Julie's fleshed-out relationship.

He chooses not to care, and then during a game he focus on a weak player that so happens to be playing an LGBT character.
They targeted player, in doubt, accuses and reports him for being homophobic
This is my only concern, how will they deal with these accusations, which are quite severe.
I myself don't really care for character sexual orientation in a video game, I see it as just another character, like I do with people, it's just another person who happens to have a different sexual orientation, like some of my co-workers.
I just hope people don't go about throwing false accusations.
False accusations and reports won't get you banned, so I fail to see the problem. That's why the mods review reports. If they left it up to an automated system, you might have a real cause for concern, but they don't.

Yep, I'm sure nobody will flood the forums making a big deal of the first LGBTQ character in the game. I'm sure it will be no big deal. This type of crap is just not needed. I don't mean LGBTQ on its own. I mean sexuality in a horror game. A horror movie, sure, there is almost always a gratuitously inserted sex scene, but this is not a movie. It is ready, set, go, DIE! When you start adding in sexuality or politics, you drown out everything else. The outside attention will not be good for the game. They can't say it is for story, because their stories are quite shallow already; see my mention of a middle school detention student being able to handle the writing in this game.
I just don't want to see DBD become the three-ring-circus of politics and sexual identity that so many other games/entertainment have become where that is what defines a character. This game should have zero of either. Run, slash, hook, sacrifice...repeat.
You don't have to read those threads. To be clear, when I said it will only be a big topic if you let it, I mean for you, specifically. For example, I never watched anything with Leatherface in it, so despite everyone making a big deal out of his addition to DbD way back when, I just ignored that and focused on his perks and power. Same thing goes for Ash, whom I'd never even heard of until he was added to DbD. If you want to ignore the hype, you can. Nobody can stop you. Just don't read or comment in threads like this, problem solved.
-
@Straiden said:

But it will be a big topic. You know it will make all kinds of media and even be heavily focused on when they first release a LGBTQ character. It will no longer be about the perks and powers, but all about he sexuality. Lots of justice warriors will focus in on it and politicize the whole thing. It will likely be a total ######### show. I'd rather we focus on fixing the problems in the game, but nope. We are about to turn the game into the Clown's ideal setting....a circus.
It will only be a big topic if you let it. You can choose to focus on perks and powers if you want and ignore everything else.

First, who is actually paying attention to the backstory of the meat bags we hang on hooks? I know the generic crap, like Claudette liked plants and chemistry, Jake was living in the woods, I think Feng was a gamer. You either like their aesthetics or you did not. I mostly play killer and could not care less if it was a stick figure as long as the power fits my play style.
This is a survivor horror game, not an RPG. Give my characters back stories in a story-driven game. I won't care if they are straight, gay or somewhere undiscovered in their sexuality if the character is well written. This is NOT a story-driven game though. Leave sexuality and politics out of it and lets focus on fixing the broken aspects of the game instead. Don't dedicate those little brain cells into figuring out if Meg is hot on Feng or David King. Who cares?! We just want to hit them with the Doc's spiked rod and throw them on a hook, no matter what.
The world is going insane....
So you think the people who write the lore are the ones who fix bugs?

Report for what? Being targeted? Are you serious?
I target weak Cliudettes every single time..
I also target Bills, Davids, Quentins, Neas, and whoever else is away from a strong loop.
I said "when in doubt". I say that to everyone, all the time, when they say they're "not sure if ___". So do the mods, BTW. I'm not sure what your problem is.
-
@Sylorknag said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1349296#Comment_1349296
What concerns me more is
How would you tell if you're being targeted cause you you're playing a LGBT character, or because you are in a dead zone, or just not good at looping, making you a perfect target for all killers?
Imagine in post chat someone being accused of being homophobic cause they targeted the weak link in the team, that happens to be playing a LGBT character.
Because bigots are too full of hate, they wouldn't be able to help themselves and they'd say they were targeting this or that played due to their homophobia. Also, when in doubt, report. The mods will look into it and figure out what's going on. Worst case-scenario, you're wrong and nothing happens.

Don't worry about it, it's just something Trump supporters say to dismiss any criticism of the decrepit old man. For example, if you were to point out his handling of the pandemic was sub-par and that's why over one hundred thousand people in the US have died of COVID-19, they'd say you're "exhibiting symptoms of TDS".

4 man swf with OoO does have something to do with this because with that setup, they can watch your aura, tell their team where the traps are and disarm them all, however I think I can settle with just nerfing OoO so survivors can't see trap killers. Also I forgot to mention, survivors with maps can also render your power useless. So I think I have changed my mind, maybe don't give him bloody cool, just change OoO.
4-man SWF with OoO doesn't have anything to do with this because that applies to every killer, not just the Trapper.

Good points, but tell me, do you think a 4 man swf with OoO disarming every trap around you without punishment is ok? Survivors shouldn't be able to watch your aura at all times whilst you are placing traps. That counter is absolutely too strong and needs some risk to disarming the trap.
4-man SWF with OoO is a whole other can of worms and has nothing to do with this thread. Bottom line, you can't punish players for countering something, especially in a way that renders the counter pointless.
-
@MusicNerd_TC said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1349428#Comment_1349428
That counter is way too easy for trapper, he can be rendered completely useless and resetting takes too long with how the generator speeds are right now, sure they disarmed the trap, but I think they should be injured to make him a bit more strong.
I could not disagree more if I tried. There is absolutely no reason to punish survivors for countering a killer's power. The power is the punishment for failure, countering is supposed to prevent it.

@KRG so.... I told myself I was going to stay away from the thread after the amount of negativity. However after a night of thinking about it and hanging with my friends and relaxing I really feel like I need to defend myself on this. I'm bi, if you think that me simply mentioning my sexuality is screaming it than I feel sorry for you because that kind of annoyance must be so draining. Here's the thing though, this isn't your safe space, this isn't my safe space either. This is a forum board where I appropriately took the time to talk about a decision from the devs and what that meant for me as a person. Everyone here has a right to say what they feel but that also means others have a right to respond in kind, or in some peoples cases hatred. This also means that I did need to mention that this kind of decision is incredible different from the world I grew up in and that it brings me tears of joy that companies are finally starting to take a stand for basic human rights. You can be supportive without speaking, but vocal support is so much stronger than silent support. That's why I'm so happy that Behavior is taking a public stand.
You say don't play the victim and I'm not, I use to be a victim but I'm not anymore because I refuse to be. You're trying to take this post into a different direction that it was never meant to be in simply because of the subject matter that you don't approve of. I refuse to apologize for this, but I do feel empathy towards you and any grievance this may have caused because if I cant do that for you how could I ever expect you to do it for me. People simply talking about there sexuality isn't the same as screaming it, it also doesn't define me, being bi is a part of myself and a very intimate one at that but I am also so many things than just my sexuality. The thing is though is that this recent decision by the devs is centered around sexuality, so the focus is put onto it.
You say that it has no place in gaming but you're wrong. Videogames are devices to tell stories and ideas, they could be simple or they can be complex but ultimately they reflect ourselves and our world. The devs are writing and showing us the backstory of these characters that we play, this means we will learn about them and that includes their sexuality. This doesn't mean the devs will be writing erotic fiction for their characters the most likely outcome from this decision is that they wont be bothered or hold themselves back anymore by mentioning who people use to have relationships with like they recently have done for David, Nurse, Wraith, and Dwight. This is also the best outcome because the ultimate goal of representation is that it should just be normal. Writing a gay character is more offensive than not writing one, the best thing to do is to write a character who happens to be gay, it can be a part of them but shouldn't have to define them. This fits well with all the characters who have already been written simply because we know so little about them. Nobody is born knowing they are gay, or bi, or lesbian or whatever. They discover it as they grow into themselves as a person. this also means people don't introduce themselves as gay when they meet someone, that's discovered when they feel like it matters. If the devs decide to let us in on the sexuality of a character that's fine because they are deciding that it was finally the time to discus it.
This post was never suppose to be about me, it was always suppose to be about my happiness for the decision and to say thank you for the writing team at Behavior.
So there, that's my piece on the subject and to anyone who had issues with my post. I'm not sorry but I do feel empathy for you, I hope you all can grow as people an eventually be able to do the same.
Thanks for your time. Lots of love.
Get this man all the upvotes.

There’s nothing wrong with anyone being gay in the game, being bi I would be happy if gay characters were in the game but it can’t happen and shouldn’t happen. Certain people will target and go out of their way to be toxic to a gay character. It’s the reason we can’t have pride charms despite many people wanting them. It’s fine the way it is currently with fans choosing someone’s sexuality in their own mind.
I also don’t want Bhvr to pull a JK Rowling and out of nowhere say “trapper is gay, david kissed dwight, nurse actually loves hag” and so on. Forced sexuality would be cool but it isn’t really needed in a game where people get pulled and forced into dying forever.
Then those griefers will get banned for targeting other people. Why should we cater to griefers?
If we were to remove every reason why someone might go out of their way to be toxic toward someone else, we'd have to remove multiplayer altogether, and if you ask me, lobby simulator just isn't quite as much fun.
