Sally had a Husband (Andrew). I'm pretty sure she's straight.

She could still be bisexual, but I think we all know nobody thinks about us.

Personally I preferred the developers leaving it open for players to determine for themselves what the characters' orientations are to make it easier to identify with their favorite characters, but I understand getting into more detail about their personalities is necessary for the Tome lore.

Well, that ship sailed long ago with the Nurse.

I give a damn about the lore, but sexual orientation is as relevant to me as what you had for breakfast. Meaning, unless we're actively dating, I couldn't care less.

  • We already have heterosexual characters, so I don't see why not. Fair's fair.

Exactly. I mean, they're literally helping you build a home by laying the first brick, and you're complaining? So greedy.

What i said i meant for every sexual orientation, no matter which one it is. But i can see that lgbt lobby is strong on this forum and that is what upsets me. Stop spreading your ideology and leave everyone alone. Straight, gay, bi i dont give a #########. Let me enjoy the game without that bullshitery or something similar to that. Bye

Heterosexuality was added to the game a few years ago, where was your outrage then?

PS: My reference to "people like this" wasn't even about you.

That decision is yours to make. I can't tell you or any one else how to navigate through life.

If people want to believe BHVR and other companies are you friends, then that's thier choice.

As for me, BHVR is a company at the end of the day. The are not what i personally consider as friends.

Let me rephrase then, who is actually showing us support? Because pretty much all I see is people paying lip service to the LGBT community. BHVR is going to do something, however minimal it may be. Sure, it's financially motivated, but that's what companies do. I don't expect them to give a ######### if it's no longer profitable, though sometimes they surprise me.

So which one of these fine gentlemen saying they don't want confirmation of LGBT characters already in the game because "pandering", "PR stunt", "restricts head canons", "SJWs", "woke", "pride month", "won't be done properly", "patting themselves on the back", "inclusiveness is divisive", "the homophobes will be angry", etc. is showing support? Please, point them out.

  • For the record, I see people like @SenzuDuck as our friends, the ones who say "I don't care that you're LGBT, but" and instead of following that "but" with "I'd rather not have people like you in this game", like many commenters here are, they follow it up with "if having people like you in this game makes you happy, then I'm happy".

People like SenzuDuck are actual friends of the LGBT community, as opposed to those who pay lip service to the LGBT community and then claim any real inclusion of the LGBT community is "pandering" and should be avoided.

  • @The_Bootie_Gorgon said:

BHVR is not your friend. They are here to make money. They can do whatever they want.

On the lighter side of things, I see comments about connecting with characters. I play pretty much killer these days. I do not connect with any of killers. If i did, i should probably be locked up. I don't even know how i would even begin to connect with demogorgon.

When I did play survivor, I played female characters only, until Ash came out. Ash is the #########. In most games, if the option is available, I will pick female characters. Always have, always will. I'm not a female, I just play female characters in video games.

I enjoyed SW JEDI: the fallen order...my only big issue was why did the main character have to be what appears to be white male red head 😐

So who is our friend, exactly? The people who don't want us anywhere near them because our very inclusion is seen as "pandering/political/PR" and to be avoided? Please, do point out where our friends are, because as far as I can tell, BHVR is doing more for the LGBT community than most of the people here, and that's just sad.

I am sick of posts like this one. I dont have anything against gay people, but come on, you dont need to go around and scream that you are gay. Keep your sexual orientation for yourself and just play the game. We don't need that kind of stuff in gaming. Sorry for your tough times but its life and youll just get stronger. Dbd has nothing to do with it so you might search for a help somewhere else. Peace.

"I don't have anything against gay people, I just don't like that they're visible in any way and wish they would get away from me."

Apologize for what? The fact that either they need to apologise for not having an openly gay character? For giving someone a straight relationship without adding a gay one to balance it? Clearly they felt the need to publicize their wokeness even though the game was doing fine as is and would continue to be fine by simply adding a gay character without shouting it from the mountain top.

Apologize for the fact that they only added heterosexual relationships, even though they originally said they weren't going to add any to begin with, and completely neglected the LGBT community whom they claim to support.

Maybe you'll get it if I phrase it differently. Let's say I was a researcher working in psychology and I verbally confirmed my support for men on the subject of mental health. However, when actually discussing mental health, I exclusively mention women and make no explicit (or even implicit) reference to men. There's nothing in any of my published articles about men, none of the studies I've done explicitly or implicitly involved men (but they did explicitly involve women), I won't even reference men except in non-committal statements. Would you feel I was supportive of men's health?

Youre missing my point entirely and thats one of the problems with what youre saying. Im well aware not everyone is heterosexual im not some gay hating prick thats gonna try to tell you otherwise. Dont be an ######### an try to make me seem like im trying to target the community just because i dont agree with what you guys want to do. My point is to try to find an alternative towards making sure that everyone is safe and can have a great experience in game still. and dont go saying "oh so they all have to be straight for everyone to have a great experience? wow" because thats not what i mean at all. I just think theres a better way that having the devs come up with a specific character or lore for an existing character that overall could turn into a homophobic uproar. Outfits with pride flags would be better, username tags would be better, trading cards would work, any flare would work better. Thats what most games do and it works. And besides, every time other games have made a lgbt character its been an uproar, and not only in homophobic terms, but also inside the lgbt community its been an uproar. so no, im sorry, but i think its a bad move.

Why should we kowtow to homophobes, though? Why should their homophobia impede everyone else from having things they enjoy?

The LGBT community won't give a rat's ass if it's done properly, which is a different issue altogether that every single fandom suffers from. It has nothing to do with people being LGBT, nobody likes a poorly written character.

  • @EverflowingRiver said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1348357#Comment_1348357

No reasonableperson has a problem if the company wants to add language like that. You and others seem to be missing the main point that people have a problem with. By all means add a gay character. Don't get on Twitter to pat yourself on the back for doing it.

And you might not be calling anyone a homophobe but when other people talk about insulting JK Rowling, it comes across as openly hostile.

The tweet was not to pat themselves on the back and I don't know why you're reading it that way. The tweet served a two-fold purpose:

    1. Announces what they're going to be adding (perfectly reasonable, they do it all the time).
    2. Serves as a sort of apology to the LGBT community.

See, initially, they said they wouldn't confirm any character's sexual orientation. However, since the Nurse, characters have had explicit relationships written about in their lore. The LGBT community got shafted in that regard - all the relationships are heterosexual and the characters are presumably heterosexual as well. To amend this, they want to "out" all the survivors and killers (I'm guessing via the rift), instead of just the heterosexual ones.

Now, which part do you take issue with?

  • @4fingeredfreddy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1348407#Comment_1348407

Heterophobic targeting? So theyre just gonna kill everyone? Im not sure how you can know someones sexual orientation outside of username and in which case that can be changed in seconds for free. Not exactly the best argument. The only real argument against my point would be "who cares" and in which case, no one should, but they do on both sides apparently for some strange reason that will always elude me. and i honestly am not in understanding towards why a character would have to be lgbt in the first place for there to be representation anyways. Why not just have an outfit across survivors and killers with the pride flags or something of that nature? Why must one of them be a lesbian or a transexual or a gay man or any of that?

"Everyone" is not heterosexual. The devs have an idea of their orientations, they were just never explicitly mentioned. Bottom line is, there are already mentions of heterosexual relationships in the lore. If you don't want sexual orientations to be mentioned, you're a little late.

  • @BeHasU said:

They should add some kind of ping limiter. For example, if you have 150+ ping you can't queue up. This should fix the problem with vpn-ers.

Although, i dont know if something like this is possible since i never seen anything like a ping limiter

The reason VPNs work is because the user connects to a remove VPN which then connects to the server. The server only measures the ping to the remote VPN, not the user, so this wouldn't change anything. At best, the devs might be able to blacklist known VPN services so nobody can connect to the servers if they're using a VPN, although that has some other implications.

  • @Seanzu said:

Doesn't take anything away from the game, only gives people more things to connect with, don't see how his can argued.

    You'd be surprised.

  • @4fingeredfreddy said:

Wait but why does the lgbtq+ community need representation in video games I don't really understand that very much? In my experience, having an lgbt character in a game leads to homophobic slurs and can lead to targeting lgbt members. Not only that but i dont really see why a developer needs to recognize any community unless they really want to. And usually when they want to its to pull in people from that community for profit, not so much to help a cause of any kind. Idk i just see more negatives than positives coming from it especially in a game like this. If they did do it they would have to make is a killer and not a survivor because it could lead to tunneling from homophobic killers.

There's already heterosexual representation in the game, which can lead to heterophobic slurs and targeting by heterophobic killers.

Thank you. I see gay content objected to on several grounds, but straight content that falls within the exact objection is always ignored. What am I to think is the real reason for the objection, then?

I hear you. Even if some people who're objecting don't mean it that way, that's what it comes across as. To those of you who think they're being accused of being bigots, here's an example.

    1. His ex has moved on and she doesn't want to see his face.
    2. His ex has moved on and he doesn't want to see his face.

The first one implies a heterosexual relationship and the second implies a homosexual relationship. Other than that, those statements are functionally identical. If you object to 2 but not 1, what are we supposed to conclude, except that your issue is with homosexual relationships?

This has been going on since forever. Every time someone brings up adding LGBT content into a game that already has explicit and overt heterosexuality, these same arguments are brought to the table.

If you don't want characters with defined sexual orientations, that's fine. However, if you're OK with having one sexual orientation in your game and not the others, are people supposed to believe your issue is with sexual orientations overall, or just some sexual orientations?

EDIT: To be clear, I'm not calling anyone a bigot, homophobe, or whatever. I'm genuinely asking you to do some introspection, put yourself in our shoes (and by "our" I don't mean LGBT, I mean everyone whom you think is calling you a bigot), and try to understand why your comments come across in a certain way.

Post above this literally shows it, calling anyone who disagrees a homophobe, thats EXACTLY how the internet works and is proven everytime a thread like this is made.

That's not what is written in that post. What's written is that some people are fine with heterosexual lore already present in the game, but take issue with LGBT lore, while also decrying the latter as "political" and saying the former is fine. I don't really think this is going to have a massive impact on the game. Unless they change all the male characters default clothes to leather and the females' to flannel shirts. And instead of hooks survivors are now impaled on pride flags.

Which probably isn't going to happen.

Alright, now I want to impale people on pride flags.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

Yeah,it seems like they aren't doing this kind of announcement as a means of making more money but rather to show a bit of support to an important cause.

At the end we will get a new character that will probably just have a few hints here and there about his/hers orientation and that's it.

Indeed, just like they've been doing for heterosexual characters.

People may say the devs are super greedy, but they do support certain causes. They've done so in the past, with announcements (remember the Charity Case?), but for some reason now that it's about LGBT, all of a sudden it's political or a PR stunt, shouldn't be done, will be done poorly, is a waste of time, etc.

For killers I'd rather it focused how they became what they are now

Just my 2cents on it though

    Fair enough.

  • Then it won't affect you. No need to make a big deal out of it.

  • Alert, Aftercare, Dark Sense, Kindred. See the killer during most of the trial, as well as your teammates (provided you can unhook or heal them, or vice-versa).

Okay, maybe I missed something, but give me an exact example where the "straightness" of a character was confirmed. Given that "presumably" and "confirmed" are two different terms. There are confirmed couples, like Sally and Philip or Frank and Julie, but there's not a word said that they like only an opposite sex. They can still easily be bisexual or pansexual, for example.

Wow, someone who remembers we bisexuals exist. Kudos.

Anyway, the devs are the ones who said they'd already confirmed some characters were heterosexuals, so some of those with past or present heterosexual relationships must be heterosexual themselves.

Because it's seemingly disingenuous and shallow that they feel the need to "shout from the roof tops" that they are going to represent a specific community instead of just letting their work both present and future speak for itself. They didn't have to say anything at all or at least until after the work was done on why they went back on what they previously said about leaving it open to interpretation. It feels like a crappy marketing strategy they're using to get more people playing the game. Which is whatever, you gotta hustle, but that's pretty cucked if their way of getting more revenue is to exploit a specific community for more monetary gain.

They never mentioned any community, though. They just said since they'd already revealed some of the characters' orientations, they were going to reveal the rest.

    @mottigedel said:

I hate it if they want to be "politically correct" by adding a certain character that is X-way. It rubs me the wrong way. We see that sometimes in movies or series too. If it's introduced in a very natural way where they don't emphasize it, then ofcourse but even then it's a fine line. I hate it if they would add a lgbt character just because of their orientation. It's a wrong message too.

Unless they play it smart in the way that it's a not a stereotypical characterization of a gay person which a lot of people have about them. Again a delicate line. It's not worth it in the end for a horror game.. even though a lot of people that play this game are lgbt (including myself) i would be against it just because of above mentioned reasonings.

You would be against it because it might be done poorly? I'm guessing you don't oppose technological and societal development because it might be done poorly, nor do you oppose creative works in general, so why this?

  • @Elcopollo said:

I don't really see a point in it really. I believe that the devs stated multiple times that sexuality of the characters in this game (except the licensed ones) is completely up to the players' imagination. So, what's the problem?

I don't see how it is reasonable for them to have an original character who is DEFINITELY lgbt and don't have any original characters who are DEFINITELY straight. That's just double standards right there.

They do have characters who are (presumably) confirmed straight. If you'd read the tweet, you'd see that's the whole point. They already have characters who are confirmed straight, so they're confirming the others who may or may not be LGBT.

The tweet was unnecassary.Just put that character in the game, mention his/her orientation in their lore or cosmetics and let the community find it out on their own.And maybe then put out a tweet like they did now.
