Sometimes you have to bite the bullet.

No. Nerfing SWF will not work, you need to buff solos and then either buff killers or nerf survivors on the whole.

Maybe it's because that's our only defense in hopes of losing a killer? If we do anything else like hide, killers complain...
Please enlighten us how you're somehow able to evade a killer by NOT looping at pallets or windows. lmao
You're not trying to lose the killer, though. Looping is prolonging the chase as much as possible, that's literally the opposite of trying to win the chase. Stealth is what you're looking for if you want to lose the killer.

How could a bugged end screen possibly give you an advantage?
Imagine you're cheating to get the same effects as one or more perks without actually equipping them. You can just defend yourself by saying it's a glitch (which is technically true).

Because DbD's servers have different locations. Ping is basically because of the distance from you to the server.

Yes? It was luck, i wrote down 20 seconds later. But the DC was without a reason, it would have been first hook for this person.
They DCd and the other one was dead, now its 2 gens 2 people and They have a good chance to find the hatch.
It's just that this:
DCs are used as a tool by now.
Made it sound like you thought the DC was intentional.

PC/steam
Well, bug reports are supposed to go here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/bugs
If you post it there with all the information they request, it'll be noticed.
I also play on Steam, but I can click on survivors' profiles. It's weird.

It's a glitch due to last-second switching that you can technically abuse (exploit) to your advantage.
EDIT: Since people are asking how you could exploit this...

Nah it was me confusing words: three gens done
Well, the DC was still unrelated. They couldn't have seen the hatch or known where it was before that DC.

@DrDeepwound said:
THis is due to the DC penalty.
Prior, survivors would simply DC to killers they didn't like etc, now they just die on hook when caught.
Same problem, new method.
Hopefully killers stop hooking these survivors so they can't suicide on the hook.
I never understood this mentality. Why would you launch the game if you're not willing to play it?

I double checked just now, yeah you're right that's my bad. It could be that OP just recounted the story differently than how it actually happened or maybe a typo and accidentally typed "3 gens left" instead of "3 gens completed"
His story was too close to the actual truth to be considered a lie though, with the difference of only one generator. I hardly think it was a bug or a cheat so I'm just guessing when I say OP got the details mixed up
I never said it was a lie, I said the math didn't add up and listed two possibilities, both of which depend on the story being true and accurate.

Not really ''clear'', if people were telling me all sorts of things like it's 'preparing for crossplay' but thanks for the input!
No problem.
Here's a handy rule of thumb: if it's not documented in the patch notes, assume it's a bug. Too many people think stuff like "shadow nerfs/buffs" are a thing when they're really just bugs, which means they don't report them as bugs and they take longer to fix.
-
@Seiko300 said:

The hatch spawns dependent on how many survivors are left in the trial and how many gens are completed. With one guy dead and one guy who DC'd that means two survivors were left, which I think means the hatch does appear since 2 generators were done.
And both of them escaped with the key one guy had.
So makes sense to me
The hatch spawns when the number of repaired generators exceeds the number of remaining survivors. Two survivors left means they would have had to repair three or more generators, not two.
-
Already tried and abused by survivors.
-
It's clearly a bug.
-
Your math doesn't add up. If there were 3 gens left, that means they repaired 2, so the hatch couldn't have spawned yet. That was either an extremely rare glitch or a straight-up cheat.

We can go on and brainstorm a thousand ideas that would at least improve the situation. Kindred basekit has been suggested many times, for example. Make it so that hook grabs don't work anymore, similar to the hatch, so at least survivors can get a 1v1, which is still advantageous for the killer. Make BT proc upon any unhook so it's not cheese countered by sneaky camps. Disconnect hook time and hook stages, i.e. you die on your third hook or after 2 minutes total, so instant re-hooks are not as rewarding. There are many possibilities that could at least be considered and tested to see how they work out. Obviously, it doesn't have to be all of them. Do that and stuff like DS could be nerfed into oblivion and the game still be fair.
But the devs are convinced otherwise. @Almo says that it's the survivors that reward camping, despite evidence that is not always the case. @Peanits says that camping is an intended mechanic because it can be punished by survivors, despite solos not having anywhere near enough information to do that. On top of that we get Pyramid Head and his cages that don't count as hooks for anything except... wait for it.... hook stages. Oh and moris, they count for moris too somehow. It seems clear that 'consistency' is something that is used very conveniently as justification only for those changes that are cherry-picked.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1363864#Comment_1363864
This is exactly what killed Deathgarden. Just saying. Nobody likes to load into a casual game and have an insignificant chance to play it. Again, another issue, because the devs view DbD as competitive, despite the bugs and the plethora of unbalanced items and features.
If you want Kindred, you can just use Kindred. It's a general perk, it doesn't require any DLC. That's what I do. Unfortunately, survivors still reward campers by, you guessed it, trying to unhook. So yes, it is absolutely survivors who reward camping, every single time.
The killer is standing still for two full minutes, so either the survivors are rewarding it for not making use of that time, or there's a third party in the trial that I'm not aware of.
They're "sacrificial stages", not "hook stages". They were called "hook stages" because hooks were once the only way to progress them. Now it's no longer the case. It's just a different way to achieve the same goal, like the Doctor's Shock Therapy and Static Blast. They both increase madness, but they work in fundamentally different ways.
The mori thing is a bug, plain and simple, either with the description or the inner workings. Bugs are not "proof" of favoritism. If that were so, I'd argue that the fact survivors (apparently) make zero noise is far worse.

@Ihatelife said:

Well okay, but why you can mori survivors after sending them to the cages if the description says that you can only kill them after they have been hooked? 🤔
Because it's a bug and I even reported it as such: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/162450/the-executioner-can-use-the-memento-mori-offering-on-survivors-who-have-been-caged-but-not-hooked#latest

Agreed, the survivor on the hook can do nothing in that situation besides a 4% chance to escape right in front of the killer. You can't expect the survivors to NEVER get hooked. If that was the case everyone would be dead on hook from the start.
The survivor on the hook can do nothing regardless. That's the whole point of the hooks.
-
@GoshJosh said:

The only way this can be "abused" is if the killer decides to stay next to the hook! LOL!
Nope. Look up what happened during the first PTB for how it was abused.
Bottom line is, when you play survivor, you sign up to be the victim and have to overcome a powerful opponent (the killer). The killer should be able to stop you from doing certain things, or else the role becomes pointless.
What you're saying here is that if you want to unhook you should always be successful, no matter what the killer does. This is not "fun", it's just giving the survivors the ability to ignore the killer's presence. The killer, meanwhile, gets shafted, because his presence is irrelevant. The survivors want to do something so they do it, end of story. The killer has zero agency.
And before you say the camped survivor has no agency either, yeah, that's true. On the other hand, even if the survivor wasn't being camped, the hooked survivor still wouldn't be able to do anything, they'd be reliant on their teammates. That's because being on the hook is what takes away the survivor's agency. It's a consequence of their multiple failures, not of anything the killer does to them.
-
@GoshJosh said:

Name a fix? Entity progression slows up to 90%, based on killer's proximity to the hooked survivor. There you go.
Already tried and abused. What else?
-
@Ihatelife said:
With that logic, if the cages are seperate way to sacriface survivors than why it affects the hook sacriface progress?
They're not a separate way to sacrifice survivors, they're a different way to progress the sacrifice itself, which is now independent of hooks.

@Deadeye said:
Because the mori is not triggered by hooks but by entity progression. The "entity summoned" and "sacrifice" steps are progressed by cages, so cage twice then hook will instantly end the sacrifice.
Same like gen regression and kicking is not the same. Kicking is an action that starts the regression afterwards. But regression can be started by perks or by kicking. So the entity progression can also be pushed forward by hooking or by caging, both different actions with an effect that follows after that action, which is the sacrifice progress.
The mori is possible when the survivor is at least on struggle phase.
Yes, I know how moris are coded to work. It's self-evident because of how they work in-game. The point is that the description does not match the effect, which is either an error in the description or the effect.
This is a bug, no matter how you look at it.

Yes, which is why I said the mori thing is an issue. Here's the thread I mentioned: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/162297/mori-should-not-work-with-cages#latest
-
Cages are a different way to progress the sacrifice, but they're not hooks. It's like Shock Therapy and Static Blast. Both increase madness, but you don't expect a range add-on for Shock Therapy to work with Static Blast.
The mori thing is indeed an issue, but there's already a much larger thread on the subject.
-
Nah. Wraith's mori should be him doing what he did to his boss: rip out the survivor's skull and spine.
-
Listen, I think we're all in agreement about one thing: moris don't work the way the text says they should.
The disagreement comes from what the devs should do: either change the text so it accurately depicts the effect or change the effect so it works the way it says.
With that in mind, this discrepancy should just be reported as a bug and left up to the devs.

Wow quick response lol.
Thanks or the fact check.
Then either devs did forget to change the mori or it's description. Though the rest of my reasoning is still valid.
Yes, I like to respond when I can. I'm not someone who waits 5 minutes before replying so I don't seem "desperate" or whatever, I just don't see the point. If I happen to be around when you reply, I'll reply back. Simple.
Yes, your reasoning explaining how moris check for the hooking state is valid, but that's not what's at stake here. The point is that moris should work just like perks and for the same reason as perks: because cages are not hooks.
-
@Raptorrotas said:
Mori and cages interact just fine.
Mori's arent activated by either hooking or ungooking a survivor.
When standing on a downed survivor, their current state is checked for "full, struggle or instantdeath"; if its not the first, you can mori them.
While it's true that the mori is worded for "unhooked survivors", it only means it was written when there were no alternate means of triggering it's condition.
In the moris it's written that survivors have to be hooked. They should work the way they say, just like perks do.
EDIT: Before someone tries to "correct" me, yes, Cypress is the exception.
-
I agree, moris should not work with cages. Perks don't work, so neither should moris.

Thank you for trying to "killer-splain" what survivors can do to "win" in this scenario. As usual, this advice is ignorant AF. It fails to address that no matter what this ruins the game for at least 1 person, for no reason. It wastes their time. It wastes their BP. It wastes their addons. It wastes their offerings. It wastes their PIPs. Because why? They had the audacity to spawn into a match? LOL No. Just do gens is not an acceptable answer to a Killer purpose-built to utilize the most obnoxious and toxic play styles in the game. Sorry.
At this point I think I should just change my name to "survivor main", because then maybe people would stop accusing me of being a killer main.
I've been camped before. It sucks, sure, but that's losing for you. You know what sucks infinitely more? Teammates not doing anything to punish the killer for camping. They all crouch around the hook like vultures, even if I have Kindred, hungry for those unhook points.
If the killer is somewhere, you should want to be somewhere else. That's what you signed up for when you clicked on "Play survivor", to be in a situation where another party is more powerful than you.
- You are not entitled to play however you want regardless of the situation.
- You are not entitled to gain a certain amount of BP.
- You are not entitled to make use of your add-ons.
- You are not entitled to make use of your offerings.
- You are not entitled to pip.
This is a PvP game. Yes, some strategies you will face are going to be boring. Yes, you will lose sometimes. If you're losing all the time to those boring strategies, then equip different perks. I recommend trying stealth builds instead of second-chance perks, they work wonders for me.

Its impossible to rescue someone safely when a Killer comes directly to their cage and refuses to leave. Getting a safe hook rescue is a luxury these days more survivors are not afforded.
So go work on gens. I don't complain that I can't repair a generator because the killer is hovering around it, I just go find a new one and leave the killer to do nothing. Basically the same thing, if the caged survivor is a team player.
-
Kudos, OP, for actually changing your build to counter something you're having trouble countering through gameplay alone. That's what perks are made for.

You wouldn't need BT if you'd just pull people out of the cage before the killer runs across the entire map. If you see the cage icon pop up, just start running in the opposite direction and they'll probably spawn right in front of you.
Better yet, you wouldn't need BT if you'd rescue people safely. I don't run BT and rarely have any issues because I actually try to rescue people, not just farm them for points.

I tried to reason with the OP in one of those posts. He was dead set that it was blackface and racist.
Some people just wont change their minds.
I see it as hes wearing a mask. Nobody would complain (I hope) if they saw a white person wearing an Obama mask.
Now if leatherface took out some shoepolish and painted his face i would see the point. But a mask? No way.
Isn't he literally wearing a face over his own because he's fugly or something?
I would definitely complain and call the police if I saw anyone wearing an Obama mask. I've played Payday 2, I'm not risking being a civilian casualty because someone can't aim straight. Dammit, Tom, it's not that complicated! Don't shoot the civvies!
In all seriousness, I get that some people do it because they actively want to be racist. When they confirm that's their intention, you just hit the report button and wave goodbye to them. Problem solved.

If I was playing DBD for millions of dollars, I would 1000% agree.
But we're not playing DBD for millions of dollars (if we were, I'd use every single dirty trick in the book to get my 4K :P).
We're playing a fun game for the fun of it. Yes, tunneling can be super effective but most survivors (and some killers, including yours truly) find it to be a cheap tactic that sucks the fun out of the game.
People are 100% allowed to do it. I feel like it sucks the fun out of the game for everyone involved but it's their call to determine if they tunnel.
Yes, I know it's not fun. I even said so. Losing isn't supposed to be fun.
I've been tunneled out of trials before. I remember a Hillbilly who would chainsaw away, chase a survivor for a few seconds, then come back just as I was unhooked and chainsaw me again. Was it fun? No. Was it fair? Yes.
I've also rushed gens when someone else was being camped. It's not fun for anyone involved, but hey, that's how you counter these things.
If the game had everything that's "not fun" removed from it, we wouldn't have a game at all. We'd have a lobby simulator with reading on the side (lore).
It's a PvP game. You should expect PvP-style gameplay. And that means people are playing to win, not to amuse you.

there's also no penalty for mobile
Unless you're the killer, people can still finish the trial, it's just ruined. I meant it's another matter because DbD Mobile has a different team than DbD on console and PC.
Mobile should absolutely have a penalty. Bots are not humans, they can't play as well as humans.

You are certainly free to tunnel but I will curse your name :D
It's basically one of those "unsportsman" ways to play. You're certainly free to do it but you're using cheap tactics that also essentially ruin one individuals game.
Personally as a killer, I feel it's a terribly boring way to play but I'm also not all that concerned with getting 4Ks so I don't tunnel. I won't ignore someone if they're the only one I see but if I ever have an option to go after someone else instead, I will. I just think it makes the game more fun for all involved since if you tunnel someone out super early, the other survivors have a tendency to turtle up and just hide from you rather than risk being the next tunnel victim. It almost certainly has cost me games not tunneling but I'd rather have a fun game than "win" with a 4k.
There's nothing unsportsmanlike about pressing the advantage. Play literally any team sport and accuse the other team of poor sportsmanship for playing in a way your team can't handle. You'll be laughed out of the field.
