Well I quess I just try to play more "right way." You can do what you want I tunnel sometimes but like it does not make me feel good and well if you play survivor do you like to get tunneled? And still I always usually chase someone else when survivor get unhooked so why would I go back to tunnel him/her.
I don't care about getting tunneled as a survivor. Getting chased is the only fun part of survivor to me, the rest is holding M1. Sometimes I will go out of my way to stealth through an entire match without being seen but it gets boring quick even if it's effective.
It's annoying when a teammate gets tunneled out trivially and the rest of the match is a wash but that's usually a matchmaking failure and not a problem with tunneling. I very rarely play survivor because I hate having potato teammates and even if I did not the gameplay is not very exciting to me anymore.
As killer I tunnel people out because it's the best strategy in the game and makes the matches easier. The majority of survivors I go against are annoying and toxic anyways so giving them a short and brutal game to rage about is always nice

And then you wonder why everyone use borrowed time, dead hard, desicive strike and unbreakable. Tunneling is actually bad tactics if others just do gens and are free from pressure. Tunneling is only really viable if you do it fast and others don't work on gens and come to help. Personally I don't tunnel but I can hook sometimes someone twice in a row but im not that cruel to kill them immediatelly after that thought. Better stragedy is to tunnel 2 survivors same time but it's harder to pull off.
Pftt as if you should ever care what survivors think. You don't play killer to make friends unless you are a cringe huntress main 69.
And tunneling someone out right off the bat is the best strategy there is in DBD btw. The best tunneling perks that have ever existed in DBD, Deadlock + No Way Out, are in the meta right now. Both allow you to sacrifice tons of generators to secure kills.
Even as a baby killer I always considered 3 gens for 1 kill a good trade, because it's so easy to snowball in the 3v1
-
Maybe if SBMM was actually per-killer and didn't give you the exact same survivors on Clown as you got on Nurse I would agree with that

Overwatch would like a word with you, lol
People are too tanky in that game for me to enjoy it.
I like Halo / Destiny / TF2 times to kill but having a game where you can literally dump an entire clip into someone almost perfectly and they are still alive makes me feel like I should be playing a MOBA / RPG and not an FPS.
-
@Devilishly_Rowdy said:
Asking a killer to not tunnel is like telling a survivor "hey don't do that gen, travel to the other end of the map and do that one. Why do you wanna complete all gens so fast? Let the killer have some fun too"
Isn't it pretty much the same thing?
The only reason is because you are prioritizing gen defense, the survivor is too strong of a looper / in too safe of an area, or you have perks that reward you for spreading damage

Oh the irony, killers that don´t camp are the ones to get most likely hit with DS during the endgame. Since DS then becomes a guaranteed free escape. Especially with BT.
BT gets used on killers that don´t camp, by survivors that don´t give the killer even a chance to leave the hook. The unhooked survivor then tries to body block the savior. So the killer either hits the unhooked survivor or doesn´t get a hit at all.
Have you never played with good survivors or what?
Yeah it is pretty bad. I will say it's a bit less bad since the DS nerf but I still 100% get the survivors that get unhooked and just hold W straight over to me when I am the killer to try and force DS.
With SBMM, gen speeds, and the average skill of a survivor player usually being decent I am finding old meta slowdown builds to be kinda useless. Even on someone with mobility Pop just does nothing. You spend just as much time going to the gen and kicking it as it saves you, and you throw the next chase to kick a gen first.
People will say "Just don't camp and tunnel" when the killer cannot be in 4 places at once and a single bad chase can lose you 3 gens. Or maybe not even a bad chase, just a super safe map can automatically lose you a ton of gens if you don't have a build / killer who can deal with it.
I have been using Corrupt Deadlock sometimes and it does solve the problem a bit, but also puts you on such a limited clock that you are essentially forced into tunneling someone to death before half your perks become useless.
As much as I hate DMS + Pain Res I am about to just give up the Pop life and convert. Pop is good against mediocre survivors where you can get a few hooks in but against really good ones you almost don't have time to kick a single gen on the weaker killers. I am routinely losing 1-2 gens before corrupt is over even with pretty solid first chases.
-
Well I just got out of a match where the survivors did 4 gens in under 3.5 minutes when I was Demo. I got 1 pop proc off and the survivors instantly unhooked so I was not able to walk 10 seconds away to use my MYC.
Then the TTV I was against was like "wow I can't believe he is camping" and "wow I can't believe he is slugging, why do you want the game to be over so fast?!!?"
And that was a bigger facepalm than anything I have heard in a long, long time. "Just let us finish the gens in 4 minutes and run every second chance perk in the book and camp like 3 god pallets and win the game, dude. Quit being so toxic!"
Those kinds of lobbies you have to tunnel someone to death and then slug the last 3, which is what I did.

I played strictly her for like 3 weeks until I realized her only power is teleport and even that isn't great unless it's an indoor map.
Yeah pretty much everything she does, Demo can do almost as good. But do you want some unreliable flickering to go along with your teleports, or a 10m lunge that can destroy pallets?
Leprose Lichen Demo just absolutely demolishes on an indoor map for the same cost as an Iri tape Sadako, and has tons of downright filthy builds he can run. Sadako you feel like you are wasting BP buying borderline useless crap most of the time.

That was a pretty good guide to help visualize each addon, since you never see her and even if you do she might not be running them.
Overall I think Well Water + Newspaper is the best chase combo, since you get a full second of invisibility + no red stain.
Rickety Pinwheel is kinda useless but makes a pretty scary sound for the survivors when they are near a TV and also fills the air nearby with static which makes it probably her coolest addon imo

is that some sort of community made tier list? It's just.... beyond inaccurate
This website is a tier list for the game Dead by Daylight. The data is community based; you can give ratings to all the current killers and see the global tiers.Yeah it's just a site people vote on. And I don't think it's really that inaccurate. Hag a bit higher, Legion a bit lower, Billy a bit higher and I agree with it

This would be true if survivor perks and killer perks were equivalent to each other, but they are not with one very noticeable exception. When looking at the most powerful killer perks, almost all of them require some sort of activation clause, in most cases a hook. The four that don't are Ruin, Undying, Devour Hope, and Corrupt Intervention. Three of them can be disabled before they do anything if the killer is unlucky and the fourth only effects the early game. NOED is a blatant exception to this rule as it lets a killer down someone for free but even it can be disabled. The most meta killer build robs the survivor of their agency less than the most meta survivor build.
The main reason why I still think the survivor side is to blame for the games balance problems (not the actual players, the tools they have at their disposal), is that killers have to play the game like everyone has those perks. Every survivor is running DH until they use another exhaustion perk, every survivor has DS so you have to wait it out unless you want to get hit.
Then there also the problem that the survivor's base kit is better than the killer base kit. When this imbalance comes into play, it is maddening. A good example of this is body blocking. Its a mechanic that goes directly against the "unstoppable force" fantasy of the killer. Is it broken? No. Is it balanced? Yeah. Is it incredibly frustrating when it happens? Also yes
The problem isn't that a particular survivor was mean and started a chain reaction, its more so that the survivor side has tools that make playing killer too stressful.
The reason why I think this distinction matters is because BHVR tends to focus on killers rather than survivors when it comes to changes. Legion got reworked instead Deep Wound, Cenobite got his addons nerfed rather than improving the communication of solo Q.
I do agree with you, that people who play survivors are not to blame and that the source of toxicity is fundamental core problems that need to be addressed but most of those core issues are about the survivor side.
Solo Q is pain, SWF are too strong, all of the second chance perks, all of the exhaustion perks, and etc. While there are killers that definetly need a look at (cough Spirit cough ), most of what needs to be fixed is on the survivor side of things.
And some of those things that need to happen is things like making Kindred basekit or even BT basekit. Honestly, I think a possible approach to fixing alot of DBD problems is raise the floor of what both sides have.
This thread sounds like it was written by someone who has never played instadown killers or Pyramid Head. Or even just Nurse/Spirit/Blight, all who can power through BT/DS/DH easily
M1 killers suck but nobody says you ever have to play them. Most of the new antiloop killers are extremely strong and are more than capable of taking wins off even sweaty SWFs if you play them well enough
I wanna say pretty much every single killer before the red line has ways to deal with the survivor meta. And even many of them after it still do.

I wouldn't say it's rare in FPS games. It's just not happening to you since the lobbies are usually bigger and it might also be spread out amongst a bunch of different players rather then one. It just seems more prevalent in DBD because in a since it's a 1v1 when interacting with the other side.
Also BM =/= toxic. I would go as far to say that DBD isn't even that toxic at all. People that can't handle any sort of BM will always call it toxic. The actions preformed mid game (camping, tunneling, slugging, clicking, t bagging, notification spam) are not toxic and people need to be able to move on past that.
I mean sure, you can say the ingame actions are not toxic. But the postgame chat is the most toxic I have ever seen in a video game, and consistently so. Same with the extremely toxic -reps I routinely receive. I got nasty messages on Xbox sometimes for other games but not nearly to the same degree as DBD
I am not sure I have played another game where someone is hurling deathwishes within 3~ minutes of gameplay; except League

Dude I was a player killer in Ultima Online, the original toxic playstyle that started the PVP genre. The way we played literally made them do the first "nerf" to which the word originated. Words like griefing originated due to our playstyle before it was considered "griefing" we just enjoyed killing other players. IN UO we could kill you and loot you, way before PUBG existed. We also camped corpses hard to where you couldnt even log back in.
I was teabagging people in World of Warcraft with my feral druid like decades ago it seems
DBD is like toxicity lite compared to the old days, in DBD you call someone a word and they think you toxic.
I don't think so, because DBD is actually permadeath. What were the stakes for dying in a game like WoW? Basically nothing. A corpse run. Unless it was an arena match.
The only true griefing in that game was either thunder storming people off flying mounts / cliffs to damage their items, or mind controlling them off cliffs / into lava which also damaged items.
What other game do you play where literally EVERYONE is toxic? DBD I can't play 3+ matches without someone BMing. Other PvP games I can go weeks, especially the huge player count ones like Fortnite or Apex where you usually barely have time to kill the hordes of opponents coming at you, let alone BM them
-
@selflessnea said:
I mean this is the same as most if not all pvp communities. You can't change how people feel about certain aspects
I disagree with that. Honestly it is super rare to get BM'd in an FPS game.
Like I think in thousands of Apex Legends games I got BM'd literally once, maybe twice?
Rust I was barely BM'd. Call of duty I was usually in party chat and there was basically no BM, nobody has time to teabag in those games.
Starcraft 2 I was never BM'd once. BF 2042 I was never BM'd once.
League I would say was the closest in terms of toxicity but even then it was typically your own team raging and not the opponents, which I still consider less toxic than DBD because that happens in your own team chat and is not usually broadcast as BM to the opposing team
DBD is like the only game I can think of where you explicitly can have toooons of time to BM and the lobbies are small enough the opponent can really take it personally. And the BM is like, constant. It's gotta be the most toxic game I can think of
-
I would never bother playing fair tbh. Many killers are not built for it, and it makes the game unnecessarily hard on yourself
And for what? Survivors will complain literally no matter what you do. I have gone into games as perkless Wraith playing for 12 hooks and gotten salt before
Once you finish tunneling someone to death, then you can afford to spread some damage and have some fun chases

he doesn't have anything like that... the only addon that help in direct chases are impaling wire (the one that will summon more chains automatically if the survivors use the environment to break them)... i won't ever consider engineer's fang cause that addon is a NERF to your power (sure, you can directly injure the survivors the 1st time... but when you have to down them that power will be utterly weak due that only 2 chains will spawn instead of 3... not worth imo)
Not sure how 6s of wallhacks is not useful in a chase
-
Put on the best perks, the best addons, and tunnel someone out starting at 5 gens if possible. Then bathe in the -rep
Kek
-
Tunneling and camping have always been the strategies to employ
-
I like these. Ruin + Undying if you have a map offering with good totem spawns.
Corrupt deadlock if not. Monitor + Nurses to tunnel people straight out of the cages since that is PP heads main strength.
Addons I always do duration + range. Double range is nice but duration gives him a ton of extra zoning and makes wrapping around whole loops for torment a lot easier

I dont feel bad about having a full "ME!!" build because it lets me run the Killer for more time than if I had a team oriented one, giving the rest of the team a bigger window to fix gens, as long as your build and gamestyle helps progress the game its ok, the major drawback is as Im on my own so are they, especially when there is only 1 gen left and onwards but thats the first golden rule of Solo queue.
Yeah I only have two rules for solo Q. Don't be the first one chased, and don't be the last one chased. First one chased can get tunneled, last one chased usually gets camped.
-
@HectorBrando said:
I consider Empathic Connection awful because its like Empathy but it can be used by someone to drop the Killer in top of your head even if you are injured and in death hook while they are havent been hooked once. It could be argued it can be used by someone to find a teammate to tank a hit but Empathy can be used the same way but you decide if you want to do it instead of being forced by a third party.
For me in Solo I use perks that benefit me and are easy to activate, Solo is hell and unless you get one of those rare lobbies where everyone has similar skill you get way more value of non niche egoistic perks than altruistic or niche ones. For example Iron Will, makes you harder to detect even if someone leads the Killer to you by accident and its almost impossible to not get value out of it, same as Spine Chill or most exhaustion perks.
Same I usually just run selfish perks for solo Q. Way too many nightmarish matches and I will routinely get left to die / die on first hook anyways even with a full team-oriented build.
Sometimes I will get a really good team and feel bad for not running BT or something but honestly the stompy (in both directions) matches far outweigh the tightly knit matches where a single BT can save the game.
Usually it's my team being completely slaughtered at 4-5 gens left or the killer getting stomped and having so little pressure my perks were irrelevant anyways. So I bring perks for the "team slaughtered at 5 gens left" games

I have over 4k hours on killer and still get bullied sometimes. I've watched Otz get bullied. It happens and it sucks. I used to play in a sweaty SWF and I know how competitive and toxic those guys were. I ended up not playing with them anymore after I got tired of how much ######### they talked to every killer.
I just lobby dodge if I am on a weaker killer and it's an obvious 3-4 man.
I don't take the dumpster tier killers into SWFs if I can avoid it, they usually don't deserve the easier game. I will play them if I am on a killer who can actually deal with a SWF. I basically never dodge if I am on Blight but I am dodging lobbies like crazy on Sadako
-
I dunno, I think the fact that "Philly" is such a good add-on makes all the changes worth it. It's pretty much old "Ghostface caught on tape" but every single game.
My only problem is that there is just enough time for a survivor at the top of the basement stairs to run down and reveal you now. It can be worked around with Lasting Perfume though, since you can do the 90% stalk and then retreat into LOS of the hooked survivor to finish the expose with the extra reveal duration.
The old GFCOT actually let you stand at the bottom of the stairs and instantly expose anyone trying to run down; for some Bubba level basement camping.
But he can still camp the shack pretty well, especially because exposing survivors at a distance can secure half states and kills pretty easily now.
-
There are plenty of workarounds to the survivor meta. It might not involve playing your favorite characters or in a way you enjoy, though.
Sometimes I go into a match with the intention of attempting 12 hooks and playing normally. But after I get teabagged / macro flashlighted at the first pallet during the first chase I camp/tunnel out the survivor while smacking them on the hook and head nodding the whole time. I usually run killers and perks that support this playstyle too
Then after the teabagger is dead / DC's the other survivors in the postgame will be like "reee bad killer why did you tunnel reee" and give me some more -rep for the profile. But personally, that's how I deal with toxic survivors
Running 3-4x slowdown and hard tunneling is a sure-fire way to win though. I recommend it. Spreading damage is a nicety in this game at best and one that will probably go un-thanked anyway
When you are totally, totally done is when you swap to Bubba and start facecamping

Erm so let me get this straight: You didn't even TRY to unhook any of your teammates when you guys had ONE gen left? Also they did do gens while you got chased, so I don't really get your issue. I am sorry but your build and the key suggest letting them die was your plan all along...
The video is just there to prove the timeframes. That was literally over a 2 minute run. All 3 of them did managed to get hooked within 1 minute.
Tell me what the third survivor was doing during that run? Oh yeah, nothing. 2 gens popped and that was it. That should have been 3.5 gens if not more.
And I was the obsession too so it's not like people didn't notice I was getting chased. On my way to my first gen I noticed a broken dull totem and looted chest.
@[Deleted User] said:
Yup. Solo queue is a special kind of terrible for good players. It's a consistent thing. You run a killer for multiple gens, and then teammates manage to go down instantly to that same killer.
The matchmaking isn't even close most of the time. A little variety between teammates should be expected, but they should all be in the same stratosphere.
On the side of the map with all the pallets left too no doubt. If that Billy had chased someone else first that game would have been over at like 5 gens left.
I ended up doing that gen, and one more. So literally half the gens for the team as well. You just can't win those kinds of games and I won't even pretend to try.

Which do you prefer and why?
Specifically, which saves more time over all when it comes to chases? I’ve been using enduring but I’m wondering if brutal strength may be better
Depends on the build, and the killer. Corrupt, Pop, Brutal is a good build on any killer.
Some killers that survivors love to predrop against (Clown, Pinhead, etc) Brutal is the clear choice. Especially since they can use their powers to slow the survivors down during the break animation so they don't get nearly as much distance.
M1 killers with no antiloop, or killers who throw themselves at pallets as a projectile (Billy, Demo, etc) I think enduring is better on. It is a comfort pick for me and quite often just running through pallets like a tank will get you hits vs. greedy survivors who expect you to respect the pallet.
I much prefer having some chase perks mixed in with my slowdown and tracking. Even Blight I typically have enduring because it's great to never respect pallets ever.
4x slowdown perks is probably better overall but can make the looping feel like such a chore that I usually don't do it

Some of it's annoying, some of it is really fun. Butter shacks are awesome and can make getting hits there trivial sometimes once you know how to hug tech

With the reworked add-ons some Killers are getting lately, the best ones are most of the time the common and uncommon add-ons, why is that?
Meanwhile add-ons like Frank's Mix Tape from the Legion (which I think should have it's effect switched with Stolen Sketch Book but who cares I guess) or Knife Belt Clip from the Ghost Face are ranked as higher quality add-ons even tho their effects don't deserve to be ranked this high.
I mean it's great that the better add-ons are more accessible, but it just doesn't make sense., what do you think?
I think it's good that most of the browns coming out are just small QoL buffs to killers powers since they can be used every game. Then the rares and ultra rares are more niche things that reward a killer for being good with the power and unlock new playstyles.
Rather than say, the Oni's addons where the purples are "your power is just outright way better"

You realize to get a nice score (BP don't matter but it's nice to get them to keep track) you need to do saves and chases? I'm not sure you are getting many points past two gens.
I usually go to save the silly beginner (and then swear when they insist rushing to the corner of the map for a heal). I also run to the killer when me being hooked would be less damaging for the team. (I'm not too good either, unless against Nurse, Spirit and, in a lesser extent, Blight)
I have played long enough I don't care about BP or emblems really. Only escaping. Fun chases mean nothing because most of the killers are a misery to play against these days, predropping and holding W is the meta. Most other games you actually get teammates around your skill level but DBD is an anomaly.
I played a demo game earlier today with a 5k hour survivor, and a baby claud on the same team. They were solo Q. The baby claud died super early and the 5k hour survivor died on first hook because of it. Why does that happen? It's trash matchmaking which only benefits the killer and my patience for it is completely gone on the very rare occasion I play survivor.

Well you said "I don't understand why people rush the gens" and I told you why. Not saying you were complaining that was more a blanket statement for the thread
But I am one of those people. I usually use iron will, left behind, sprint burst, and am basically planted on a gen all game.
If the team dies they die but the gens are getting done lol. About the only time I am not doing gens is because I am too busy being murdered. I am not stopping because my baby claud with 50 hours got 2 tapped by an M1 killer, someone else can deal with that I don't even want to bother saving those people because MMR should not even be putting them on my team

@tippy2k2 said:
Gen Rushing (much like tunneling and camping) are also used to often to just...describe playing the game that it's more or less meaningless
"True" Gen Rushing are survivors who put the gens above all else. They won't heal, they won't go for saves, they bring tool boxes and parts, etc. They're the players who would make a professional speed runner look at them go and say "Calm it down guys".
Those are the players I don't really get because you fly through the game so fast that nothing could happen (especially when those people or the killer is bringing things like BPS since Gen Rushing is worth such a low amount of BP). Ultimately it's your choice as a survivor if you choose to gen rush but I am not going to pretend like I understand how that's a good time.
B/c doing the gens is how you survive, lol. More time in the trial is just more time for the killer to kill people. You can't really complain about people doing gens. Especially right at the start of a match you have no idea if you are gonna get a sweatlord killer or a baby and the best thing to do there is hold M1 for dear life

I almost always facecamp the 2nd to last survivor though. Way too many times I get taken hostage by 2 people fighting over the hatch hiding in lockers for like 10m+ and I am not doing that anymore.

Not sure about all counterplay but a lot of it. Since juking a blink doesn't really buy you any distance. I won't mention how they are still bugged since hopefully that will get fixed.
I think another big thing about them is that with monitor they can allow her to blink on gens from outside the terror radius, which is pretty cheesy. Tinkerer nurse can do that as well but range + monitor nurse can just do it on every single blink.

The thing is tho I never said that killers can't be toxic. So I'm gonna ask you to stop projecting on me. Also I did ask how often is a killer toxic compared to surv. I'm still waiting for you to adress that. Kinda shows someone only plays one side.
Probably about 25% as much. I would say the playerbase is equally toxic on both sides, but with 4x the survivors you are 4x more likely to run into someone toxic as the killer.
I definitely run across plenty of BMing killers as a survivor, especially when I run them too long

"tell how often does that actually happen?"
Please read my post before you reply to it.
Every time I play killer, lol.
I don't waste time bleeding people out but I definitely enjoy my BM. Especially if the survivors start it.
It's funny that people think killers can't be toxic too, cute actually. Shows they only play one side.
