Nobody's providing a compelling reason they shouldn't. "This one person might recognise my name and might be consecutively matched with me and might then do something based on said name" could also substitute literally any other identifying feature, so unless you're obsessively changing cosmetics and playstyle every game, it will still happen.

Adding complexity to the reporting to placate paranoia is just excessive.

Harassment is, in fact, a compelling reason. Even if only a tiny percentage of players experience it. Just because people might recognize your cosmetics doesn't change that the easiest and most conclusive identifying method is the username. That is a sufficient justification for suppressing usernames before the end game. They could also make it optional to scramble your name in the lobby but I bet nearly everyone would opt-in.

  • What's unfair is that hits* are still handled on The Killer's end, which provides them with an immeasurable advantage over survivors. People are still getting fake hits because of laggy killers. They need to move all hits to the server, a neutral authority, and call it a day.

*does not refer to DH and pallets which are server-based.

Because it's already a built-in feature of multiplayer platforms, which show you players that you've recently played with.

i.e. I can already do it regardless of what changes BHVR makes, so they might as well just show everyone everyone else's usernames out of the gate--including showing who the Killer is for fairness' sake

Yes, but they can code the game only to populate the players met until the end, as some games do. Also, this is limited to the same platform, so this tiny fact still doesn't provide the compelling justification for retaining names, as you suggest. I have yet to see any good reason why names must stay from any of these topics.

  • I recently had a hand injury, which made me appreciate accessibility options in games. I had difficulty using my left hand and had to turn on accessibility options in nearly every game I played. These options are so crucial to people, so I fully support them. And if anyone cares, my hand is fully recovered now.

    ... reporting.

You can argue that names should only be visible postgame (I disagree because then knowing who you should be reporting gets infinitely more complex), but to say there's no reason and everyone should be perfectly anonymous is ridiculous.

Why don't you list the reason(s) that justify seeing names before the endgame? And your justification is a non-starter; the postgame summary can display both names to avoid confusion. This is done in many games without fanfare.

This is very true, and it's things we've seen with previous streams as well. We're also very clear that we cannot talk about upcoming stuff with much certainty, but yet still we get asked these questions and of course they're the most upvoted.

It does feel like we can't win at times for sure.

Unveiling The Ringu Chapter a few months early was an excellent step. Informing us about the tentative ideas regarding closing the gap for the solo queue experience was also good. We need more of this, early info, and advanced insight, even if it's subject to change or never actually materializes. The real issue is excessive secrecy and withholding info until the 11th hour. We know nothing until PTB most of the time, and then we know everything. That's such a weird approach. Some games outline an entire year's worth of DLCs and content updates in advance. The lack of info regarding Realm Beyond updates is terrible, especially since it is the basis for no new maps. RB seems dead and hasn't had an update in a long time, so why no new maps? What happened to next-gen features like RT? Whatever happened to PS4 Pro and Xbox One X enhancements promised in 2019? So much gets promised, and then nothing happens, but to make matters worse, there is no update or follow-up either; it gets forgotten.

  • There is NO reason why The Killer should be able to see the usernames of Survivors. The names used in-game should be randomized like Mike, Susie, Allan, Tyler, or even the actual names of survivors and increment a number if more than one.

  • Can you miss if so what happens? Not a big fan of SC's on Hook because some people struggle with the accelerated checks and it just seals their fate if they are bad at them.

  • The game needs to move to full server authority to make it fair and neutral. Hits are still handled on The Killer's end. I can guarantee you that survivor players continue to endure fake hits that the server doesn't validate because hit validation is exceptionally lenient. I made a topic about being extraordinarily laggy, and every hit still connected for me.

The real news here is that killer players are so accustomed to hits being authoritatively handled on their client that as the game moves things to the server, they feel deprived of hits that they were never entitled to in the first place. Meanwhile, survivor players have been dealing with fake hits for years!

the server that I play on. Specifically the East Asian server has a lot of hackers from China and also griefers. Sandbaggin, trolling. When I watch streamers that live in EU or U.S I never seen them face these kinds of players. on top of that extreme lag which both come in hand to hand as a frustrating experience.

Have you tried turning off Cross play to see if that helps? I'm on PlayStation and my games are much better with cross play off. Yeah, that's really unfortunate that you're experiencing that. That's been my experience with some other games, you run into lots of hackers, cheaters and lagers from certain regions.

  • @itsquiet27 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2682597#Comment_2682597

see even if I had the option to manually select a server I would never choose a server with a ping higher than 150 MS because anything higher than that is unplayable. At least 140 or 130 is a bit decent and playable compared to what I play at 190 MS. which is just frustrating and the worst experience ever

That's you, but there are people who would intentionally choose another server for a competitive advantage. It is unfortunate but they seem to be happy with the status quo of I think 80 or 90% of people at 150 or less? I don't see much movement on that front.

  • @itsquiet27 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2682597#Comment_2682597

It might have been like that before but now it actually doesn't go in favor of the killer with the high ping ever since bhvr fixed the issue of that advantage. now the survivors have more priority with pallet stuns and dead hard is more consistent in their favour. so I disagree with your point but at some time your point made sense here. Now when killer plays high ping he gets a disadvantage. Fake pallet stuns on him, not getting hit before a survivor throws a pallet and also dead hard buff.

Dead Hard and Pallet Stun Validation have nothing to do with hits. Hits are still handled on the killer's end, this is directly from the devs. Ultimately, the killer still has a tremendous advantage over the survivor in this regard.

I think we got Microsoft AZURE here for servers. Some games have servers here for example, Rainbow six siege on PC and playstation have server in my place and Call of duty has servers here to. But not many games. These are the 2 biggest examples I can think of currently

Bvhr has a contract with Amazon GameLift, they are probably not going to start using different platforms for other markets. Your best hope might be Mumbai.

  • @itsquiet27 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2682577#Comment_2682577

the devs imo should allow us to manually select a server regardless of the ping we have. I mean we obviously wouldn't want to play in a ping of more than 150 ms let's be honest here but if they gave us the option to manually select this game would be in a MUCH better state than it currently is. Think about it. The people that complain about long queue times won't struggle with that anymore. There are also negatives of this but I see mostly a positive outcome from manually being able to select a server rather than have it auto connect for you.

I'm not a big fan of that because people always select the US or EU servers due to higher player populations, which ruins those players' experience. I don't want high ping killers in my lobbies because they chose my server. Dbd provides a competitive advantage for The Killer since hits are still handled on the killer's end; experiencing higher ping killers from other markets would be terrible.

  • @itsquiet27 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2682577#Comment_2682577

yeah it might be because of the low player base here but it's VERY irritating putting up with random connections. Some games I get put into with 97 MS and others it's 190 MS??

Amazon doesn't offer anything in ME; it looks like the closet is Mumbai. However, Bvhr may not have enough players in that region to justify the expense and split up the player base even more by introducing a new server location there.

  • Sony is very likely the holdout because Microsoft has always been willing. Sony doesn't allow you to access paid content from other platforms, so they require you to buy again, or according to the Epic lawsuit, they need a percentage of sales as an alternative option. Sony has always been the one platform that blocks cross-anything until they get what they want: money.

  • It would be best to encourage Amazon to open more servers in new locations; that's who Bvhr uses for dedicated servers. If your country or region has a high general population but a lower player population, that would determine whether or not a server is worth the cost. Devs favor the players, and your region/market may not have enough players. AWS is limited in expanding due to local laws that make it cost-prohibitive or too cumbersome to set up shop. Some jurisdictions require data to be kept exclusively on local territory, and it becomes expensive to do that so they won't bother.

  • Proximity chat would be super toxic in this game, like in many other games. I'm ok with either decision, but I know it won't be pretty, and yet another thing they would require moderation yet will lack it. Do they even punish text chat abusers?

  • @danielmaster87 said:

Since hooks destroy themselves upon sacrifice for some reason, this happens all the time. It's not even fair for killer. It's giving the survivors an unnecessary upper hand, and the justification for defending this is hilarious. "Hooks get destroyed because killers shouldn't be in one spot all game." Why not? Defending one side of the map is a strategy. Is the killer using strategy illegal in this game (*wink, wink* Deathslinger+M&A nerf)? It just makes no sense why the hooks destroy themselves.

Are you crying about hooks? Really? I never thought I would see the day.

Camping in general is stupid and a buzzkill, but the worst form of this is a camping cannibal. Yes, I know the strat is to abandon altruism and do the gens, but should that even be considered a solution?

In the cannibal's mind, he wins either way. Best case scenario, he gets at least one kill, assuming that the one person is furious about it. Worst case scenario, he downs everyone because they can't let go of altruism.

He shouldn't get a win either way. A person like that doesn't deserve it.

The devs mentioned they have a remedy forthcoming, who knows what but I agree it needs something. Maybe the hook can teleport to a new location lol

  • @GeneralV said:

I think this would be a bad change, because that feeling when you just started a trial and has no idea of which killer you will face is one of the best things DBD can provide.

Then you simply wouldn't run the perk lol

  • This is another topic where everyone references the same extreme examples. When people talk about killer perks, it's always the worst-case scenario: "A survivor cleansed my Hex Totem in 3 seconds." When they discuss survivor perks, it's always the best-case scenario: "They used DS and escaped" or "DH extended the chase by 30s, and all five gens popped." No one ever wants to have a balanced discussion about the times' Hexes are never discovered and provide tremendous value to The Killer or the times when DS, DH, or UB bring little or no value.

  • They need to allow Survivors (under certain conditions) the freedom to accelerate the bleed out. There are times when the outcome is sealed and slugged is just wasting your time; ironically, the devs are so concerned with time-wasting in hopeless situations, so they removed the ability to struggle if you're the last one.

  • Never happening, your best hope is suggesting creating a new totem category that killers could use more than once. Just be prepared; their effects would have to be limited in both range and impact and not game-changing, so they probably wouldn't be too appealing anyway. Even if they did, there's no way Hex: Devour Hope would re-activate with tokens.

  • It should be a choice, but perhaps they could introduce a greater incentive for hanging on 'til the last drop when The Killer is near? Something like a new category bonus "Compassionate" for those moments. They also need to decrease the Skill Check difficulty progressing; is there a reason for it?

  • The perk should just pause as soon as The Killer is within a certain radius without needing a Survivor nearby. I also like the idea of giving the benefit to others when I am near a hook.

  • The nerf to keys and the hatch was excessive. An alternative change would be the hatch and exit gates are powered for the last person, and the EGC begins when the hatch is closed, or a gate is opened. Idk what the solution is but the current experience is bad.

  • A lot of fair points, I agree with most of them. I do not favor leaving any platforms behind, including Switch, and I agree the devs need to resolve those issues. However, with some other titles, the team that works on fixes/bugs isn't the same as the enhancements team. So it's possible that the team behind Realm Beyond isn't the same as the fixing team. I'm mostly interested in them completing the last realms but the current-gen enhancements would be cool too.

  • How many realms do we still need? Haddon, Swamp, Red Forest? I hope they surprise us with them this year.

I thought killers don't like farming and it'sa waste of their time? A lot of comments I have seen in other threads killers say this a lot. I could be wrong though wouldn't be the first.

I've also seen that, but I don't mind; it can get boring, especially if they want to farm for too long and are too immersed to farm, lol

I don’t know why but every time I get a 4-man escape I feel ashamed of myself, I don’t even know why I don’t take this game that seriously, the feeling is worse when I’m using Spirit because I think “Wow, you are using the strongest killer in a game and you couldn’t get at least one of them? Pathetic” I tried to use weakest killers so I can somewhat justify it by saying “Well, but I was using a low tier killer, it was gonna happen” anyone here feels the same?

Don't let yourself feel that way; if things are going south, you could initiate farming for points and hooks. 99% seem to love that, even when the match is lopsided. That might cheer you up a bit and your BP balance will thank you.

  • Of course, Feng was using Spine Chill and playing more immersed. I would say that it was considerate of you to restore some "hook balance," as I call it to the Trial as The Killer. It isn't your job, but it was a nice gesture. I always go out of my way to get hooked if the match is lopsided. I've seen those hyper-hidden survivors that do everything to avoid The Killer and will sometimes muster some courage to rescue you on the last hook but then immediately vanish into the night after that. They won't take hits or help; they often get downed quickly and even DC or complain about things in chat.

Nah, plenty of games do well without adding maps. The characters are what kill games. Once developers get fruity and think we need no more new killers, that is when the game will actually die.

Yes, and plenty succeeds without much content at all. It depends on various factors. I said many, not all, an important distinction you seemed to miss with your reply. Even without new killers, I believe the game would survive for a while.

  • I am dying for new realms! It's been way too long; I can't believe we will only get two new maps in 24 months. This community is very resilient because many games would die with such a map drought. I hope the rumors about getting The Abbey of St. Carta from The Nun as a new map are true.

  • The skill check is def unnecessary, and DS still isn't truly anti-tunnel. In most circumstances, it's more of a chase extender, assuming you meet all of the prerequisites to use it. Ime and what I see with other players is that the chase resumes, and the person only delayed the inevitable after using DS.

The skill check should be more prominent; I know on PS4, it can be hard to hit if the game stutters during that precise moment. I also think permanently deactivating DS if you've failed the skill check is harsh.

  • Why don't you upload the video? Otherwise, yes, likely placebo.

  • I love everyone's ideas; they would all be pretty cool. It would be even cooler if they sold animations and emotes for us to use in-game and in-lobby. However, I def support the default animation idea.

    Hyperbole.

It would be a few minutes, at worst. And if it's between SWF stompcomps waiting a few extra minutes or the same groups flattening killers they shouldn't be matched against, I'll take the former every day of the week.

If your MMR is taking longer, that's because it's either very high or very low, and there aren't enough killers at that MMR - which is fine. Fair matches trump instant queues.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2601690#Comment_2601690

    Absolutely, 100% wrong.

BHVR have even confirmed the DH validation bug on the killer's end, where a 'hit' registers visually and audio-wise. This happens to me about 20% of the time when a survivor DH's me, and I play with 30-40ms maximum.

It's still not a reason to DC.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2601698#Comment_2601698

Assuming you are right (I'm not sure if you are, I certainly haven't seen killers DC anywhere near as frequently as survivors do):

    • Whataboutism.
    • When a killer DCs, the game ends and you can find another. When a survivor DCs, you've got to play out a crappy match.

You clearly don't understand how validation works, and the devs have made no such claims. The hit completion audio and visuals are not bugs. The mods have been accepting feedback about it doesn't mean it is. That's just your local client reacting in real-time to the hit you got on your screen. However, when your client checks with the server, it can accept or reject the hit based on two factors. If the server rejects the hit, the health state is restored to the Survivor, and The Killer enters the missed attack CD. So nothing I said was wrong; you just don't understand.

Now moving on, there are many things in the world you will never personally see. That fact changes nothing about what I said. Whataboutism doesn't apply here. I never distinguished DCs; I merely pointed out that it wasn't exclusive to one side.

You're guilty of whataboutism. Pointing out that the game ends when The Killer DCs is an unnecessary and hypocritical distinction to draw, you're trying to detract the fact that Killers also DC on the basis that when they do so, it is less devastating. DCs are universally bad, I understand why people do it, but it doesn't matter which side does. I agree that we need a DC penalty, not just because Survivor players may DC but because everyone can and does.

  • @GamerEzra said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/291179/so-they-turn-dc-penalty-back-on

We NEED DC penalty's! The amout of toxic survivor mains that rage quit when i down them for the first time is just insane.

I don't know what you mean with hits through windows or pallets, you are probably just lagging. This almost never happens to me when i play survivor.

Yeah, but don't pretend killer players don't DC as soon as gens pop before they get a down or even their Hex cleansed. The no-penalty periods are always interesting to see how (and why) people DC lol

  • @StarLost said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/291179/so-they-turn-dc-penalty-back-on

It's latency. Happens to killers all the time (especially after the DH 'fix'), except that when it happens to us, we think we've hit or downed someone and get totally spun.

Pallets, however, are validated on your side. Meaning that you didn't get a lag hit, you just got hit.

Regardless, DCing because you got a bad bounce because of latency is just being The Incredible Sulk.

Also: aren't you the guy who was demanding that BHVR not fix the uncleanse-able boon bug, because something something uncleanse-able hexes years ago?

Completely false information here. Basic Attacks and Special Attacks are all handled on The Killer's end; the server may reject a hit in extreme cases of latency. The threshold is unknown, but we know it is very lenient to non-existent. However, Pallets and now DH is validated by the server, not on the survivor's end. And I agree with OP; it's not fun getting struck from great distances due to the massive competitive advantage killer players have.

  • @RenRen said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2593375#Comment_2593375

They also stated: "The temporary solution: Whenever a grab is rejected by the server, the Killer will instead swing their weapon automatically and be granted challenge progress and Bloodpoints as if they had successfully grabbed the Survivor. This way, you won’t lose out on a hit because the grab was cancelled, and you’ll have an easier time completing Archive challenges that require you to interrupt Survivors."

But you don't hit the survivor sometimes.

Yeah, not sure; grabs are wonky, so I hope that permanent fix is with the next update.

    @zarr said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2593434#Comment_2593434

They said they did, but general hit validation definitely isn't a thing. Hit validation's sole job is to overrule invalid hits that have happened due to latency on the killer side, and with stun and Dead Hard validation, we do actually see overruled hits. Outside of that however, overruled hits never happen, even at ridiculously high killer pings. So yeah, general hit validation is either non-functional or non-existent, unfortunately.

I know from personal experience that the servers tolerate upwards of 400 ms ping. Killer players have become so accustomed to every hit prevailing that when a pallet or DH validates, they complain about being "denied" a hit.

  • @Dwigtht said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2593224#Comment_2593224

How do I address your point if there is no point? I know what I see on my screen, and this is definitely a hit. And then the hit gets rolled back.

I do not know what the survivor sees on their end? Maybe they see me somewhere on Everest or maybe they also see my successful hit and laughing "ha-ha, get hit validated!". I see the hit, I hear survivors scream. That's a hit.

It's because you don't understand how online gaming works and don't seem interested in learning about it. So I'll leave you thinking that your client is always the authority.

  • @Pulsar said:

    You're so biased.

You don't even try to think about the other side.

How many times were you ended up Exhausted on the floor? Maybe once every 5 games? How many times do Killers with GOOD ping get pallet validated? 3 times a game?

I have no idea why you are so insistent that Survivors need buffs and that people from certain areas shouldn't be allowed to play the game. Like, yikes dude, not everyone is as privileged as you. Not all of us can afford good Internet or live in an area close to a server.

I'm in favor of server validation which is neutral to both sides equally. The server can manage everything with input from both sides. On the other hand, you are in favor of the killer client, so who exactly is biased here? You're not even considering the survivor's pain; for you, it's strictly about the killer's perspective. And again, you call me biased?

I never said any of that, but as you have no decent points to make on the topic, you're now resorting to personal attacks and insinuations you couldn't possibly surmise about me. How reductive! That says more about you and your opinion than it does me. And not in glowing terms, I might add.

With that said, your argument continues to be: because not everyone "can afford good internet or live in an area near a server" they should be provided an advantage at the expense of other players. Sounds like more bias.

First, lets be honest and stop being disingenuous. How many times a match would you say a survivor gets exhausted on the ground? None. It's more along the lines of out of every 10 games SOMEONE will be exhausted on the ground.

Now I ask you, stop being disingenuous and tell me. How many times will this hit validation effect hits that were earned rather than this "laggy killer" boogeyman? That's right quite a few.

I bet while you typed that, you didn't even stop to think of bs that killers have to endure getting blinded when they clearly looked away. And even YOU saw them look away. Who is really biased here?

This hit validation stuff just enables survivors with decent ping to play so greedy and be rewarded for it when in reality they SHOULD have been punished for it. I am willing to bet 99% of all the times people get exhausted on the ground, are because they played WAY to greedy.

Playing greedy isn't the way you should be rewarded. Making smart plays should be.

Nah, I stand by my statement. You don't even attempt to address it other than with anecdotes. It doesn't matter how many times I've seen someone exhausted on the ground or what I may speculate. That amount is immaterial and doesn't advance anything you've stated. Hits are still handled on the killers' end, and that is the very definition of unfair. Stop lying to yourself here; you're so biased you can't even articulate a valid justification for it. Focus or move along.

Yes, when you get 5+ denied hits, it feels a little #########.

You're literally doing the same thing. You want those people who dared to play the game where they live to not be able to actually play. Just say it.

What's your proposed solution for them? Give them a refund?

It's equally painful when you get hit five or more times because the interaction was handled on the killer's end.

I don't want them to do anything; no game guarantees you will have access to play in perpetuity. They are not entitled to a refund. Do you think laggy killers' have a greater urgency for fairness than others? You're being selfish and entitled here. The server isn't perfect, no such solution exists, but it is the fairest of them all. It's either killer, survivor, or server-based. Killers should no longer have a competitive advantage on any basis.

1 … 12 13 14 15 16 … 40
