  • Oh, got another one:

Took off my totem build to try the blind challenge...

Before that, no one ran any Hexes.

The moment the build is off...

    DEVOUR

    NOED

    DEVOUR

    NOED and RUIN

    RUIN with Haunted and Undying

and ALL just maps with nasty spawnspots...

  • Thanks mockingjay, I had concerns.

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

I certainly hope not. That would be really weird.

I know, right. But it does look like it's a tattoo of feng in the blue and yellow e-sports shirts?

  • @Dark_Vorahk1 said:

Nurse was designed back when looping wasn't officially part of design. The game was intended to be played more stealthily and chases were deadlier. What if Nurse could only blink during chase? This could potentially restrict her oppresive ability to quickly travel the map through walls and between floors, while keeping the lethality in chase she's popular for. With a smaller terror radius, she could be an exciting jumpscare killer.

I'd say as with a lot of other killers the solution shouldn't be to rework the character, but to make the game more dynamic. Maps and perks adjusting to the killer, as well as score events and emblems being given different. Like, if you have a killer that seems to have been designed with stealth as counterplay in mind (spirit or deathslinger, for example), you'd get different Evader emblem points than for example against trapper.

For nurse this could mean more convoluted and maybe slightly bigger than usual maps, balancing her map mobility

  • Since the new RNG (testing) the spawns are an utter disaster for both sides.

Yes, three gen spot have always existed, but they didn't pop up every (other) game before. (like, even if you consistently went to lery's, the three gens in the same corner was a rare sight, now it happened six times out of 10 matches on lerys)

It's like the generation outright disregards that there's more than 4 possible tiles to put stuff on.

I had it on Coldwind that in addition to the by now infamous 3-4 hooks next to each other (not in the basement of course) 6 gens spawned on adjacent tiles... the only odd one out where the set one on the house. Same with totems. I need to do at some point go in with a 5 totems build (haunted + 3) to see just where the totems spawn. Not to mention the totem spawn right next to a hook. like... what?

Also: the 'new' random gyms and walls are just.... why...

If not for EA, Blizzard and Rockstar, BHVR would prolly be the game company with the biggest disdain for their playerbase.

  • Bubba.

Pinhead, Dredge and Trickster are obnoxious, but can be balanced with minor tweaks here and there that wouldn't change anything in a drastic manner.

    But Bubba?

His power and his perks are an embodiment of 'no fun, no fair', to the point where people in ALL SERIOUSNESS say his counterplay is giving up/letting someone rot on hook and just trying to get out.

When a killer's power enables their player to basically undermine 3/4 of the regular gameplay (altruism, survival and boldness) then something is wrong. No other killer can do that, not even bubba's proxy Billy.

  • I wonder how the whole thing will pan out now that the US (and likely canada will follow suit?) is taxing nfts and crapto.

  • guys, we can save this, we just have to tank bhvr so hellbent can buy the OG killers (and good devs) and put them into VHS

  • I hope barker sues bhvr for this the moment her gets the rights back in january

  • the only thing lower in quality then this bait are nfts

  • @MyelinXCVIII said:

I uninstalled the game. NFTs? More like No [Bad Word] Thanks.

same. Also looking into signing up for the VHS beta, give a bit of lowspec feedback

To clarify, I'm not saying you're buying the "copyright" for the image, you're buying the "original image". The copyright holder can still license who can make copies of that images and who can't, or can sell that license to the NFT owner, or what have you.

And I didn't mean "commissions". Commissions are paying an artist to create something for you. This is rather paying for an original work that's already been created. What I'm talking about is more like buying something already made at a gallery or auction.

As far as "shady transactions", that's another issue entirely.

P.S. Mind you, I'm not trying to defend or attack NFTs, just trying to have a decent analogy to them in the physical world.

No, you are NOT buying the original image. You are buying what IRL would be a napkin with 'dugman owns the mona lisa' scribbled on it. That's it. And the person who sold you the mona lisa might not be the creator (Granted, I wouldn't put it beyond DaVinci to have invented a timemachine, but that's a different topic). So, you are neither buying a copyright, a copy or and original. you are buying a slip of paper that says you own the thing.

And that's it. And if the person who sold you the slip of paper decides to say they didn't sell it to you... they absolutely can.

edit: also any statement saying 'no it cannot be deleted' are factually wrong as this has happened before. several times.

  • @dugman said:

NFTs are a way to kind of indelibly track who owns an "original" copy of a digital artwork. I like to think of it like if you went to an art gallery and see an original painting. You can purchase the original painting and the gallery will most likely have some sort of authenticity paper saying that it is, in fact, the original painting and not a copy and they'll give you that authentication so you can prove that what you own is the original. Of course if you don't care about owning the "original", you could also just go to the gift store and get a copy of that original that looks identical. Even though it looks identical it's still "just a copy" so it's not worth nearly as much to a collector as the original piece.

So what NFTs do is allow you to buy "original digital works". If someone makes a digital painting, for instance, they can use NFT to indelibly track who actually possesses that original file. Of course you could still make digital copies of that original that look completely identical to the original, but again to a collector the "original" file is probably a lot more valuable because it's got a unique heritage in a sense. (I guess, I'm not a collector so I couldn't care less about owning "originals" of things versus copies, but obviously there are some people who do and who are willing to spend a lot of money on owning originals.)

So how does all this tie to DbD? Not much, honestly.

Basically a company that DbD works with owns some Hellraiser content that has NFTs attached to them. (Again, think "the original digital picture file of Pinhead" or "original voice recording files of the actor playing Pinhead", etc). That other company is selling those NFT exclusive originals, and as a sales incentive they're offering coupons to get the Hellraiser DLC in DbD for free (or something along those lines). DbD isn't actually buying or selling anything that has NFTs in it, it's just partnered with this other company that is giving away the DbD DLC.

Of course all that would be completely under the radar for 99% of people since, honestly, hardly anybody actually wants to buy NFTs. They're really a niche market. What got a lot of forum posters up in arms is that supposedly NFTs and Etherium blockchain transactions in general are extremely energy inefficient to handle. The estimates vary kind of widely but figures around something like "enough energy to power a house for six days per NFT transaction" are floating around. And a lot of that electricity happen to be generated by fossil fuels, so they allegedly work against the climate goals of trying to be "carbon neutral". (I say allegedly because, again, all these estimates vary pretty widely and NFT defenders will argue that Etherium is eventually moving toward a much more energy efficient system and toward being actually carbon neutral.)

Mind you, I'm no expert on this! But hopefully I summed it up to a reasonable degree of correctness. 🤷‍♂️

    you.... are quite wrong.

Because you are NOT buying the painting, as per your example, you are buying the receipt. The painting stays in the gallery, with only the person who 'sold' it to you having control over it. They can gladly just delete your receipt from the database and sell it again, without you being able to do anything as the transaction can not actually be traced (which is why crypto IS used for all sorts of shady financial stuff)

so no, you are not buying an original or a copy, you are buying the promise that you did buy the original.

What your example describes are art commissions, not nfts. And cryptobros like fog up there HATE commissions with a passion, citing that they are 'too expensive' commonly (which, translated into plain english means they are scandalized at the thought of having to interact with another person politely and respectfully, with there being a risk that they don't get their will if they don't)

You know what makes this whole mess even worse?

By all means, bhvr could have just said 'no, we're not going to do that, we'll wait till january and then contact mr barker about the licensing rights'

    But no.

(Heck, i'm not entirely certain, but didn't barker also create Candyman? doesn't he have the rights to that too if yes? We COULD have gotten hellraiser AND candyman, with NO nfts, but NO)

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/288439/can-someone-simply-explain-how-this-nft-thing-is-a-bad-thing-or-what-it-actually-means

Mass hysteria based on incomplete understanding of NFTs, inability to correctly comprehend tweets/text, unrealistic fear of Steam deleting DBD.

Many people complain about the environmental impact of NFTs, which is correct because NFTs use cryptocurrencies to work, and cryptocurrencies have high energy demand which mostly comes from coal plants. But this is a bit unfair, because I don't believe they were outraging when some companies started to accept e.g. Bitcoins.

'mass hysteria' in these situations is a term commonly used by pathetic, ignorant, vile people who know that those against it are right, but who want to pretend the people with common sense and basic decency are wrong.

So the anger is over it being costly? Affects players and the community by nothing? Just an expensive form or digitial currency?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2575881#Comment_2575881

Well the only thing that gives anything is value is humanity. It's why you get phrases like "one mans junk, another mans treasure" etc. But I get what you mean.

Im still not 100% on it, seems abit pointless to do, just seems like a fancy form of a liscene for a design. Still not sure it warrants the mass anger though, millions of people waste money and energy on a daily basis

the anger is over the enviromental impact and that nfts etc are commonly used in money laundering, insider trading and other illegal activities. Not to mention it is -not- a digital currency comparable to e.g. auric cells.

the anger is about bhvr (once again) lying, mocking and belittling its community.

Like, they COULD have made a limited number of dbd-version pinhead figurines and sold those, 3d printing and shipping would have been excessively cheaper than crypto in mid and long term. but companies nowadays are not capable of mid- or even longterm planning. You know the riddle about if someone would offer you either $1 million now, no strings attached, or one cent now and over the course of 30 days always double the amount per day, again, no strings attached, would you take the million immediately or the cent and wait? Companies nowadays all act as if taking the million is the only sane thing (especially when they don't know or have no intend of investing it), when... well... do the math yourself

Oh yeah, I can see the use for NFTs as a currency, but not with the current implementation as you note.

The point is you should probably try to get people who are unaware of what this all is to understand what they are supporting with the current implementation.

there is NO use for crapto or nfts at all. all they are 'promising' to do is stuff that has been done before through newsletters, or heck even 'donating' small amounts of actual money to a company.

There is literally no advantage to that stuff. at all.

  • Here's another stinger:

Remember when companies used to make (often low quality) figurines, sold them for $50+ and you had a chance to get a unique code? That was more legit than what's going on now, especially since you actually got a physical figurine.

Dunno bout you, but I'd rather had a 20 inches Huntress figurine for the price they're charging for those pngs you can't even save to your comp. but that would have meant they'd have to invest instead of just making a gain.

Why do they need so much power??? I'm sorry if these are stupid questions..ive read stuff and still didn't quite get it

to 'generate' a unit or even the fraction of it, a computer is doing a specific algoritm/puzzle. but the more it needs and if it's meant to be 'traded' etc the puzzle get's so complex that you need entire 'farms' for just one unit every minute or so.

Which greatly benefits oil and other fossilfuel companies who are making actual money out of it, and some hardware manufacturers because of the thus created shortage of computer hardware which drives the prices up.

I think the whole point of block chain is radical decentralization. Either way you sail in dark waters without any regulation or by rules of goverment. Crypto went popular cz of no gov controll in it, i don't think it will ever be under control of the gov...

most likely scenario is that the 'farms' will simply be turned off one day (either cause a gov outlawed it as a whole, or because those making actual money out of it find it ran its cause and that the can now make more money out of the fallout. which is likely the plan)

For McLean to state he didn't know about it AND that he's working on a new project altogether NOT as a result of this ordeal is highly suspicious. I don't believe him based on his track record.

For anyone taking anything with the grains of salt, crypto is a digital casino. If you're better at sitting down at an actual casino card table, do that instead of playing crypto. If you can calculate a roulette table, do that instead of playing crypto. If you're better at working hard and saving your money, *do that instead of playing crypto*. Your chances of crypto profit are marginally better than winning the lottery but most people sinply don't sell in time to make their profit worthwhile, and putting your bread and butter into it is probably foolish.

Want a high risk high reward investment? Try a portfolio. Don't want the risk? Try conservative investments. You can actually make dividends and and interest if you place your money into an IRA and you won't risk losing your investment.

said it in another thread, but crapto is really just there for market manipulation and insider trading and money laundering. there is NO positive aspect to it.

  • @kosmi said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2575626#Comment_2575626

Well when you put it like that yes. But there is another way to do it. Have an organisation that can check chems in gassoline.

Yet again what is the hysteria for NFT. All i managed to get is that is some kind of block chain, crypto what ever. Why lossing ######### over nft and not over bit coin?

    long story short:

The entire thing is a massive scam, mainly for money laundering, market manipulation and insider trading. And as with every such scam you need to get people hyped up and join in to mask your crap.

    What's happening here is this:

People have 'dirty money' (through drugselling, human trafficking, etc) that they want to make clean. Before operations like that needed various acomplices that could always rat one out. with crapto and nfts one can do this crap easily on their own in a day: They get two nft/crapto wallets, one with dirty money. They make a ######### nft, sell it to themselves (both wallets are anonymous, so it cannot be tracked down), go through the process of turning their crapto back into actual money, pretending that the money they have was legitimately acquired through selling a nft instead of through illegal means.

No one can prove them lying, because the wallets are anonymous.

Rich people and their illgotten means have it much easier turning crapto back into actual money, which is what they are doing, using the 'hype' they cause amongst techbros to make a massive gain (as they also often hold stocks in oil and coal-companies)

So, yeah, no matter how you turn it there is no positive aspect to it, no matter how much those defending it try to make it out to be 'a cure for the broken financial market' (as crapto is part of what screws country's finances over, not a solution)

And i guess we will still have some surprises with this NFT thing.

    This picture :

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/LQTHVYO11AJF/image.png

This is clearly a Butterball skin. Pretty sure we won't be able to buy it in game.

And it's well specified that some drops will be available only for those holding the Box (paying the NFT).

BHVR said they provided in-game models and blabla the partner does whatever it wants with them. Fact is BHVR didn't release a Butterball model in-game and i'm sure they have a contract with Boss protocol about it. Time will tell.

with this specific image though people pointed out it's an image of an already existing action figure.... though, i'd not be surprised.

But here's the thing: the moment they have anything 'nft exclusive' they'd be off steam, because that moment the game would fall under the rule that there mustn't be content in a game that is purchased through nfts, no matter if it is a different company selling that #########

  • @PalletsAndHooks said:

That they're dishonest in general? No. That they would be dishonest with their employees about this thing? Yes. I'm confident the company knew about this at several levels.

This is the same company in which a main developer did (presumably) not know that they were working on a colorblind mode...

Also, it just sank in just HOW much of a scam this whole mess is:

The nfts are images of the pinhead model for all we know... for an unlock code that isn't even a given.

So, they are really trying to charge $200+ for something that costs less than twenty bucks in the regular store AND can be easily obtained through blender (which is free) and similar programs.

  • would you be surprised?

  • Don't worry, his quickshots will probably be purchasable as nfts soon

  • Dunno if you saw yet, but SAW is going into this crap too, and with the next tome (after trickster now) being rumored to BE saw focused... bet your arse there will be saw tie-ins with this crap

Dev team knew about it to some degree in order for the NFT to create a steam dlc code for the chapter.

would you put it beyond the higherups to have told them the codes would be linked to physical merch?

  • Also it seems as if they lied to the main chunk of the dev team about it, too

  • So, from all I understand now (if the 'lower ranking' devs etc are truthful) : No one doing the actual working on the game itself (art team, modelers, coders etc) were apparently informed about the nfts business, while the higher ups knew what was going on for MONTHS? AKA the big head honchos didn't just lie to the customers (and had the twitter guys lie as well (after all the 'news' are things written by someone else and usally the social media crew has to tweet them out) but their own dev team?

How did you do this? I want to look into it as well for my Pinhead.

go to steam, click on support and then on dbd

  • But you know, we should have known. Only a few weeks back some people pointed out how a couple of fogwhisperers are sponsored by/are promoting crapto. That bhvr didn't kick them out of the program immediately should have told us everything

  • I went and inquired for an refund. Because after bhvr blatantly lied to us, you can't trust any kind of damage control they might post.

Unless the entire crapto thing is undone and removed entirely, and those responsible get kicked out (seeing even a lot of bhvr employees are angry) there's no reason to stay with the game

Did you even read the rule you are linking?

    1. Applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs.

DBD is not built on a blockchain, DBD is not issuing NFTs, and DBD is not allowing people to exchange cryptocurrencies or NFTs. Everything related to that is done outside of DBD.

    you can ask valve directly.

  • @Crowman said:

If you buy an NFT from Boss Protocol, there's a chance the NFT contains a Pinhead DLC code you can redeem to get the Pinhead DLC in DBD.

Steam is likely not going to ban DBD over this, because entering a one time code to get the DLC via the in game store doesn't break Steam's rules. In fact, fog whispers already give away new chapter dlc codes since BHVR gives them some when the chapter drops.

Now if DBD starts allowing players to purchase these NFTs in the game, then that would break Steam's rules and get it banned.

Actually.... It DOES break the rules:

    https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/gettingstarted/onboarding?l=english#5

    (point 13)

Even if it's a purchase 'outside' of steam etc, it's still counting as this. Valve is banning every game in any way linked to crapto and nfts.

That's a horrendously bad partnership they have there!

that's actually not very surprising. it's exactly those kinds of people that are absolutely into crapto, thinking there is anything positive to it.

The same people who STILL mock and belittle commission artists that 20$ for a full-colour, full-shaded, drawn backgroun 3/4 picture is too expensive.

  • Actually, go and open a refund ticket.

mention that the game breaks point 13 of the steam guildelines: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/gettingstarted/onboarding?l=english#5

    Also art theft.

Basically you can sell an NFT of some artwork that you have found on Twitter, that was not created by you or anyone you know, and sell someone else an NFT of it, saying that the buyer now owns the art. Except you never owned the art, so obviously you can't just go around selling the NFT.

If (emphasis on if) Dbd gets removed from Steam anyone who bought it would keep the game and all DLC. The only major problem would be new DLC. As there is basically no way BHVR doesn't own your player data and / or hosts it on their own servers it should be possible to hook it up to an Epic account, if (again emphasis on if) the game gets removed from Steam and if they move it to the Epic store instead.

you can't do that without the players permission. Also if it gets completely removed from steam, a refund for the whole shebang is legit.

Short answer: A very energy-use/carbon-producing intense MLM (MultiLevelMarketing). It's a new form of a ponzi scheme. some people will cry bloody murder that there's crapto and nfts that are 'clean' etc, but at the end of the day they are a pyramid scam and commonly used in moneylaundering, market-manipulation and insidertrading.

  • The more important question: can and will we get refunds for stuff we bought on steam, as these are special circumstances

  • First they say they won't do nft crap, now they say they don't, and it will cost them their main userbase because steam will ban the game. nice

I took most of that info from their FAQ

Is Boss Protocol related to Boss Team Games?

Boss Protocol and Boss Team Games are completely different companies but do work closely together (and share a logo!). Boss Team Games is a games publisher and Boss Protocol is focused on creating NFTs that provide additional access to content and other redemptions. There are multiple reasons it was set up this way (licensing and other) but there should be no confusion that the two companies share an address and some common goals.

There's actually nothing that indicates that they are separate, and with the same person working for all 3, I have a hard time believing one "stole" from the other.

well, here's the thing: they apparently changed the faq AFTER the uproar concerning dbd, so... I'd take everything in there with a pillar of salt. These people are scammers, and you expect them to be truthful?

The people making the NFT are the same people that make the Evil Dead game, and a few other things. Tim Hesse works for both Boss Protocol, Boss Team Games, and also Diversion3, which was involved in making the F13 game. Take from that information what you will.

From what I understood Boss Team Games and Boss Protocol ARE NOT related. the latter just stole the former's logo to appear legitimate.
